good teacher just a real hard class to teach. you almost have to teach yourself.
He SUCKS!!!!!!! Not Helpful! When giving examples, he uses stupid airplanes instead of real life stuff.
ok he is a great guy and a pretty good prof. The class is very hard because you go through material to fast. you have to read and study all my other friends are having a hard time to so i just think its the class and not the prof. take credit no credit to save you gpa, tough class
If you are an accounting major take him. He is very good, works in the field, and uses real life examples like buying an airplane and then doing the accounting to depreciate it or report it on the financial statements. If you are not an accounting major DONOT take him because he expects you to leave his class and be able to work in the field.
He was a great prof and very helpful w/ the harder issues
Professor Harper is a good guy. He will spend time with you so you understand the material as needed. If you don't ask it is your own fault. Gives lots of group quizzes for easy point. Show up to class and pay attention and you'll do fine.
He's a good guy, good prof. I just HATED the class, but really I just hated accounting, not him. He tries really hard to help you understand everything. Group quizzes are great. The curve on the overall grades saved my life! He really is a good prof, just watch out because the class itself sucks!
Tough class, but great teacher. Curved class, 35point xtra credit project, and group quizzes may sound easy, but the material is very difficult.
Great guy, Great teacher, understands the material is difficult and grades accordingly. Provides you with everything you need to know for the tests. If your lucky enough to have the oppurtunity to take him for 310, don't miss the chance. He brings a real world accounting enviornment into the classroom.
This professor is amazing!!!! He is extremely helpfull. He is a senior manager at a local CPA firm. He actually loves teaching and you can definitely tell. Uses the powerpoints to stay on track. Do the homework, read the book, and study, and you will do great! I wish he taught 311! He brings a lot of insight to the accounting profession also!
I wish all my profs were this good. Excellent instruction and has a willingness to accomodate students if at all possible.
Was an excellent lecturer, stayed on track with slides, but used examples from real life accounting situations (he's a working CPA) that were helpful in understanding real life applications of the material. Excellent professor!
Excellent professor overall. Has a lot of actual experience that he integrates into his lectures. The class is pretty tough overall, but he uses easy problems on exams.
Really great professor and a very nice guy. Makes a hard subject much easier to learn. Very helpful and fair. Pretty heavy load of homework, but as long as you do it, he doesn't grade on right or wrong. Several quizzes and a few project/papers. Tells you what to study for tests. If you make an effort, you will do well.
Chris is a working CPA are a reputable firm in town. He knows his stuff, is a good guy, and a good teacher. He made what could have been a mind-numbing boring subject somewhat enjoyable. Lots of great stories and examples, and seemed to actually care about his students. Highly recommended.
Awesome Prof. Challenging. Class is not boring considering it is all tax. Makes the effort to ensure you know what you need for the tests but most importantly, I learned A LOT! and it is stuck there, not just memorize it and its gone.
Decided to take this teacher after reading all the positive comments..how deceiving. I dont care if he is a CPA or the best accountant in the entire world, he doesn't know how to teach to people who have never taken an accounting class before.
Amazing professor. Doesnt beleive in suprises on exams. Is very clear in the material he teaches, and he managed to make a 6-9 taxation class interesting. Will take again if I have the chance.
Good for nothing. Join his class if you want to hear him brag about being a CPA...no one cares. Didn't curve when the last exam averages were 67% and 70%. Horrible teacher who doesn't care about his students passing or understanding the material.
Great prof. Is an active CPA and provides a lot of real life examples. Work load isn't that demanding, and exams aren't that difficult. Just listen carefully to his exam review. Would take again
Prof Harper exceeded my expectations. I knew this would be a hard class and there was a lot of homework, but I came away from it feeling really prepared for Intermediatte 2. Real life examples, thought provoking lectures, challenging exams, but we always knew what material would be on the exams.
Harper is a great professor that explains things well. Gives out extra credit for all the online connect assignments so even if you fail a test the extra credit makes up for it. Group case assignments and take home quizzes. I would say if you show up to class and read the book/do assignments on time, there is no way you should not get an A.
Accounting is hard no matter what. Prof Harper however gives good real world examples and makes class pretty enjoyable. He knows that alot of students aren't majors and does things like group quizes and online extra credit to help you out. Tests are tough but his test reviews are almost word for word like the test with dollars switched around.
Harper was SO NICE. I am so glad I had him for my first accounting. He was always clear and helpful. I studied decently for all the exams and ended up with a B. I really liked how he pulled examples from his real clients, it was interesting to see. Who better to teach accounting than a real CPA? GREAT PROF LOVED HIM!!!
I had Harper for ACC 212 and i liked him so much that i took 213 with him also. ACC is a very dry subject but he made the class a lot more fun with his stories and examples. he even wrote me a letter of recommendation for an internship. great guy!
Take him! if you buy the connect, its easier to do your homework. there is extra credit for each chapter that added up to 75 of EC pts at the ended year! almost a whole test grade. There are 4 tests, final isn't cumulative. There are 4 assignments on top of the homework, but you do them in groups of 4. Material can be hard so go to class
Class was a little boring, but he made it very exciting and kept the class relaxed
Tax is hard but he does a decent job explaining it. He does try and get you to think for yourself and it can be hard getting the answer from him. There are 3 tests, 5 quizzes, a group tax return project, and hw is not mandatory. He is a good prof and I'm glad I took it with him.
He is a great teacher and tries to make jokes that are actually funny. He explains the material well and is a must take teacher!
Probably the best teacher for this class, but expects you to know a lot about accounting. Not being an accounting major was tough here. Tests are worth almost everything, and gives group quizzes most of the time. It's a tough class, but he gives a good study guide and will answer any question. He knows everything about tax but get ready to work
Accounting 212 is a difficult class but Harper is an amazing professor and I wouldn't have wanted to have anyone else! He's extremely helpful in class, and tries to have fun in lecture... by the way he owns a jet. The tests are very hard, but when the class didn't do well he curved the exam. Quizzes and homework are easy
Harper is a great professor. I hated the class because I'm not an ACC major, but he's good at teaching & will answer any questions that you have. Quizzes are usually done in groups, but exams are hard. Gives lengthy study guides. If you aren't good at math go to office hours! Overall, good prof - would probably take again.
Harper teaches a tough subject, & as far as accounting profs go, he's a really good one. The tests are tough, but he gives fairly good study guides. Gives lots of extra credit through quizzes, and makes an effort to help students. Lectures are long, & he goes through the power points too fast. But he teaches with enthusiasm & is very knowledgable.
Awesome teacher. I am not an accounting major but he made the class easy an enjoyable. Does a lot of quizes but they are open book and he usually helps. Exams are open book (the larger tax book) but do not expect to just bring the book with you and pass. Book's were not needed, his power points and handouts are better and easier to read.
It was really the new book company Cengage and its online hw that was annoying and time consuming. Harper realized this and even complained to the Cengage people on our behalf. His slides and wksts are more helpful than book. For some in-class quizzes he gave us full score or let us work in groups. Tried to bring humor in accounting which is hard
Harper is awesome! He makes the topics really easy to understand and is always willing to go over anything you don't understand. He made a lot of the quizzes group or open book so that was really helpful. Also pretty willing to discuss topics during office hours if you don't get it. Laugh at his dumb accounting jokes because he tries.
Harper is awesome! He makes the topics really easy to understand and is always willing to go over anything you don't understand in class or out. He made a lot of the quizzes group or open book so that was really helpful. You do need the book for online homework. Laugh at his dumb accounting jokes because he tries.
For a tough class, Harper does a great job of getting the point across. He understands not everyone is an accounting major and is willing to spend extra time on topics. Homework is creditno credit and quizzes are done in groups. Tests are difficult but he gives lots of examples on study guides. Would definitely recommend him!
Accounting is hard but Harper makes a dry subject tolerable. He is a CPA and has real world experience. There's lots of homework points and always an extra credit opportunity to raise grades. Tests are hard but he gives great study guides to help prepare. His partner quizzes are also a great for learning in this class. Definitely recommend.
Best accounting teacher I've ever had. He takes a tough concept and breaks it down in a step by step process. Really helps in learning the material. If you learn the process the word problems on exams are a piece of cake. The multiple choice is the grade killer but he offers extra credit in homework assignments and on the exam. Top Hat is required
Harper was one of the best profs I've had at GV. If you go to class you will pass, most if not all quizzes are group in class quizzes and you get 100% for just being there. You do need to purchase Top Hat but it's an easy 20 points if you go to class! Exams are hard but he tells you everything you need to know about the writing portion.
A really awesome professor! Definitely take this class with him!
I LOVE PROFESSOR HARPER. He really knows what he is talking about, and tries to add a sense of humor to accounting, which is hard. He always gives really detailed review guides for the exams. He also does in class quizzes but you always get to work with a group and sometimes he even does the quiz with you. I highly recommend trying to get him.
I really enjoyed my semester with him. He is helpful when students ask questions. He gives online homework and goes over it in class after you've turned it in. His tests aren't too bad and he gives out study guides in advance. He also gives group quizzes in class that are easy points.
Professor Harper was an amazing professor. There are homework assignments each week over each chapter on Cengage. The homework is pretty easy if you just crack open your book. There is also a group quiz each week that you can use your book and any notes you have taken to use on the quiz. He gives great feedback and offers extra office hours!
Professor Harper was an amazing professor. Homework assignments once a week on Cengage, that is more than willing to help you with. Cannot recommend enough. We had quizzes that we could work on as a group and the tests were fair based on lectures. He doesn't try to trick you by asking questions from the book that weren't in the lecture. :)
Easier than average, but insanely boring. Material is just really dry. Tries to bring in real example from his work, but I still found it boring. Class was pretty easy. With an avg amt of work, an A is easily attainable. Exams are long, lots of MC and a few essays. I'm not sure who else teaches 414, but he is probably the easiest of the bunch.
Prof. Harper was amazing. Lots of homework, quiz for every chapter. Exams are decently difficult but if you understand everything on the review sheet you should be fine. Cases can be difficult but he is more than willing to help if you ask. There is one SWOT paper but it's really not that bad. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Prof Harper did a great job of making a relatively boring subject interesting. Lots of homework and tests could be hard, but if you know the review sheet you'll do pretty well.
He is a super nice guy and uses real world examples to help teach the material. All quizzes are done as a group or as a class. Tests can be difficult, so you have to work for your grade.
Great professor, class quizzes but tests are decently hard and can bring your grade down. Online homework.
Really great professor. Accounting is a hard (for me) but he does his best to make it understandable. We have pop-quizzes every week and are worth a lot so make sure you do them. Pay attention to the homework due dates because they are all online and he doesn't mention them. I forgot some b/c of this. Tests are hard and no curve: STUDY or regret it
I love love loved him. He was amazing and he used real world examples that were super helpful
Prof Harper is a solid Professor however, his exams are pretty hard and they make up a majority of your grade. Also, online homework is very demanding and time consuming.
Great Prof, Get to know him.
Professor Harper is a really great guy who makes accounting a really interesting class. He has a lot of real world experience that he relates to the subject matter making the lecture more interesting.
Accounting is always going to be a hard class, but harper made it much easier with group quizzes and exams being straightforward. Im bad at math and he made things easy to understand. I wish i would have taken him for 213 as well cause im dying right now.
Harper is the best accounting prof out there. Always gives clear explanations and uses real world examples to clarify. As long as you put in the effort to do the homework and group quizzes, you can do well in his class. Best prof I have ever taken in college.
Harper was a great teacher, he makes his lectures fun and relatable to real life situations which really helps with the material, because there is a decent amount of hard material. You do have to go to class, because he gives quizzes often and does not always announce it ahead of time, but he is VERY generous with the quizzes, as long as you go!
This was a difficult class and he considered a 70% test average good. Lots of homework but he is a good guy and knows his stuff
Prof Harper does the best he can with such a hard class. Exams are extremely difficult, but quizzes are open note/group, and you just have to get 70% or higher on the homework to get full credit. Takes attendance by using tophat in his lectures, so it's pretty crucial that you attend class. Also gives extra credit quizzes at the end of the semester
Awesome dude. The class is fairly difficult, test average tends to be about a 75%. However an A is very doable especially since on the final extra credit is generous.
Best professor in all of Seidman. Has great real life examples to help you learn. Extremely accessible outside of class and will make time to help you. Best accounting professor you could possibly take for 212/213. Whether you are an accounting major or not he wants to help you learn and will do as much as he can to help. BEST PROF EVER!
Great at explaining. He shares his experiences from outside the classroom related to the course, and you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. Downside is that you need to prepare lots of hours to study. Quizzes are easy, but tests are challenging. The final was the worst since the average grade was a D...
I took him for ACC 212 and 213 and found his 213 class way easier! Great professor and tries to make boring information interesting
Decent prof. Compared to 212, this class seemed easier. He gives more assignments (pre-lecture quiz, 3 cases) so that helps a lot. His tests can be hard if you don't know what you're doing. Doesn't load you with homework. Show up for quizzes, do the online hw (unlimited submissions), and DON'T forget pre lecture quizzes (won't let u make it up).
BEST prof I've had at GV, hands down. Easy prelec quizzes and in class quizzes are unannounced but are group quizzes, open book. He posts instructional videos on every problem and they're put straight on the exam and gives straightforward study guides. He goes above and beyond for his students. I wish I could write more. TAKE THIS PROF!
Best prof I've had at Grand Valley so far! Explains concepts very well during lecture, gives out group quizzes & online quizzes that are big-time grade boosters. If you go to his office hours he will help you with class concepts as well as career advice (he is a CPA). Exams are hard especially the final so take course points where you can get them.
Prof. Harper is by far the best professor that I have taken at GVSU. He respects his students and makes a potentially boring class very interactive and fun. His use of tools like TopHat really helps students to understand the material and he takes student feedback into great consideration. I would definitely take him again for any class.
Loved Prof. Harper! His lectures are fun and he has a ton of stories that make things relevant. Course objectives are clear and I never had any questions about what to study for the exam. Definitely take him!
Professor Harper was a great professor! He knows a lot about the subject material and his presentations are really helpful. There is a lot of material covered in this class so you need to be prepared to do the time. I did take it as a summer class which probably didn't help, but there was still a lot of material.
Professor Harper is a funny guy. He tries to make the class enjoyable for everyone because he knows not everyone wants to take accounting. Quizzes are unannounced, but done in table groups. Exams are hard, but provides a review and does review in class the day before the exam. He is always willing to work with students in and out of class.
Professor Harper is one of the best ACC Profs out there. He really cares about your grades and making sure you understand the material. There are lots of quizzes but he will help you and check your answers before you turn it in so you can get a 100. Exams are very hard though but the homework and quizzes balance your grade out.
Chris is a great professor. He uses real-world examples to help relay the information. He really makes sure you understand it and answers questions well. He is always open to meet outside of class. Chris uses top hat which has all the powerpoints available 24/7 which is awesome but there is a small charge for the platform (not alot at all!)
Harper is a great professor. Gives extra credit, will work with you if the material isn't sticking, and is simply a great guy. The class itself is hard, but Harper will help you through it.
Prof. Harper made going to GR for only one class worth it, every time. He owns a business, and so his examples are relevant and relateable. He really cares about teaching, and is very open to questions during lecture. I smiled so much in his class; he's one of my favorite professors. Gives lil extra credit. And has a snapchat if you need more help!
I took ACC 212 because it is required for a business minor and I wasn't thrilled about it. But Professor Harper made me actually enjoy the class. He did a great job explaining subjects that he knew students struggled with and his lectures were very clear. Tests were a little tricky but not bad if you actually study. He's a real nice and funny guy
One of the best professors I've had at GV. He knows the material is dry so he tries to make it interesting (and succeeds!). Lots of extra credit. I only got above 90% on one exam and still got an A in the class. The material can be hard, but he is very accessible and always answered my emails quickly and thoroughly. Take Harper if you can!
He is a funny guy who is super helpful and willing to meet with you to help outside of class! Totally made such a difficult subject way easier/ fun to learn! Highly recommend taking him!
Put in so much time and effort into this class only to come out with a B. The class is very doable but be prepared to put in a ton of work.
Harper is the best professor I've had at GV by far. He makes a tough class super entertaining and engaging. You definitely have to put in work, but Harper will extend any amount of help that is needed. He is overall a really good professor and guy. I'd 100% recommend taking him!
Attend class, do the homework, and get help as soon as you think you might need it and you will pass this class. Professor Harper is one of the best professors at GVSU. The exams will require some time studying but you will have a study guide to direct your efforts. Do all the homework, review PowerPoints, and do extra practice and you will do well
Hands down the best professor I have taken this far, take him!!!! Lectures are super interesting and he will prepare you for all of his exams. I was so scared of accounting but he made the class interesting and as easy as it could be. Gave extra credit and group quizzes.
Harper is great this is a hard class but he really goes through the problems to make sure you understand it. Attendance isnt mandatory but he does give in class quizzes and if you arent there you wont get the points as well as top hat questions. 4 exams, 3 cases and he does offer extra credit near the end.
Professor Harper makes lectures about accounting as interesting as humanly possible. The in-class quizzes and homework can really pad your grade, which is great because the exams can be quite difficult. Professor Harper gives many resources for students to practice & learn the material, and he's always available if extra help is needed. Great guy!
Professor Harper really cares, the amount of effort you are willing to put in, he is definitely willing to match it. Lots of opportunity to raise your grade through attendance, group quizzes, homework, cases, and a project. The exam review guides are very helpful on giving direction on what to study. He is also always willing to meet.
Once again the best professor to ever teach accounting at GV. So knowledgeable and understanding. Has true experience for all the concepts he is teaching. Whether you are taking him for 212/213 (I did), or grad classes like this, he is your best option. Will challenge you to understand and work hard, but will reward your efforts . Add him on snap.
THE MOST AMAZING ACC PROF EVER! HE is the reason I decided to become an accounting major! I took him for both 212 and 213 and they were amazing! His lecture notes correlate with the book and you have alot of points going towards your grade. He also really just wants students to grow and learn regardless of their major throughout his course!
I loved Chris! Super stand up guy, the type you'd just want to go to the bar and have a beer with. His expectations are clear, work load is fair, and he is accessible outside of class. His lectures are interesting, he clearly knows the material, and his exams perfectly match what we cover. Whether you are good at accounting or not, take this guy!
Professor Harper made 213 so fun and able to understand. He is very good at explaining material if you are struggling. He wants to see his students succeed and does everything he can for that to happen. A great prof!
I took Professor Harper for a short 2-week Covid-19 class, but through that time it was obvious he was a helpful and funny professor. He is easy to contact and will help you with any problems you have! Definitely take him.
He is a great Prof and an even better person. By far the most accessible and student friendly prof I have had at GVSU.
Chris was great. If you are taking accounting classes take him. Especially if you only have to take 212 and 213. I had him for both. He is genuinely a great guy. I really enjoyed being in the two classes. Accounting can be difficult but he made it exciting. Explained everything with his lectures. Best professor I've had a GVSU so far.
Good person to take Accounting with.
Professor Harper is very understanding and truly want the best for his students. He is very knowledgable in accounting and will try and help to the best of his ability. The class is just difficult in general and there are weekly quizzes and five exams. It's just a class you have to take some extra time to understand.
Prof Harper may not give the best lectures, but he is a nice guy that is always willing to help. If anyone has a question, he gives an explanation and if you still can't figure it out he'll just give you the answer. Quizzes each week were not bad; exams were not too difficult. As long as you complete everything you should be fine.
He is a pretty good professor who knows his stuff. He has a lot of videos to watch, but they are all straightforward and easy to understand. Listen to them at 2x speed, dont forget to do your homework, and youll do fine.
Chris is by far one of the best professors out there. He is so caring and always willing to help out. He makes a somewhat tough subject easy to learn by making sure everyone gets their questions answered and explained well. If you are at all able to take ACC 212 with him, do it!
Prof. Harper knows what he's doing. Online lectures range from 10 - 45 min. In this class, you are expected to watch the lecture videos beforehand and come to class knowing the material and be able to apply it in class on worksheets. There's one big project towards the end that you work on with your group. He really likes his plane and pizza shop.
I LOVED professor Harper and would recommend him to any student taking accounting. He is very knowledgeable about the field and cares about your learning. He's very relatable and funny, making classes light and enjoyable. Honors Accounting can be difficult but he is very good at making sure everyone is on track with the concepts.
Professor Harper has been one of my favorite professors at GVSU. He relates everything you do in class to real-world experiences, and has tons of stories to share! If you need any type of help, he is always sure to make sure you get it, utilize his office hours! Would recommend his courses to everyone!
I only have good things to say about Professor Harper. He genuinely cares about his students and their success, even offered to help me with an internship and whatever else I needed. He gives great advice and make sure to use his office hours if you need any help; he will always see to it that you receive it! Would suggest his classes to anybody!
Only good things to say about Professor Harper. He really cares about student success and will take the time to help students whenever needed. Makes class fun with his stories and applying accounting to the real world. Quizzes are often just attendance or with a group. Lectures are easy as well.
Professor Harper is an amazing professor. His class is very difficult, but that's not his fault because accounting is just a difficult subject. He does his best to teach, and I highly recommend going to his office hours. The exams are pretty difficult, but he does give extra credit, and he drops the lowest quiz and HW grades.
I really enjoyed Prof. Harper. He's a generous grader and really tries to get to know each student. He has all of his lectures online and you are expected to watch and then apply them in class. It can be a little frustrating at times but overall not bad.
prof harper is 100% one of my favorite professors and he knows the material well and is always very helpful inside and outside of class. there is a ton of hw and lectures but it is worth it because it is amazing at helping you understand the material. he is very flexible as well and is understanding if you just talk to him.
Professor Harper creates an engaging learning environment. The class isn't too difficult if you stay on top of the online lectures and participate in class. Unstuckstudy was a helpful tool for preparing for quizzes and exams.
I LOVED professor harper so much that I switched into his accounting 213 class for 2nd semester!!! He wrote the textbook so he is THE best teacher for this class. The curriculum is kinda hybrid with online lectures and assignments and then in class was a semester long group project. Exams are hard but he cares a lot and loves his students!
The textbook is available online While attendance is considered "mandatory," it's for a good reason—at the end of each lecture, he gives a short 4-question knowledge check that counts toward attendance and helps reinforce what was just covered. His tests are very manageable, especially if you attend the review sessions
dr. harper was a great professor, he was always good at giving real life examples and i liked the way he graded things. i was in an honors section of his class and it was clear that he wanted all of us to succeed in his class. he was also really funny and i enjoyed the projects he gave us. he is really heavy on group work but i found it beneficial
Very knowledgeable, and although a harder class, he does a very good job of keeping everyone engaged. He gives very helpful real life examples for better clarification.
