Awesome math teacher. Gives amazing lectures that are better and more succinct than the textbook (although you can still read it if you want). Tests are fair and cover what he said they would.
Jankowski is a god. All of his lectures are mind opening as he calls upon the math deities to bestow us with knowledge. His tests are fair and cover exactly what he says they will. 10/10 would take a class from him again.
The most AMAZING Math professor. Super organized and clear lecture.
Really good lectures, really enthusiastic that makes you enthusiastic about math (which is a feat in itself). Pretty tough exams, but usually the averages were right in the middle of the curve of the other classes, so they were fair. Very helpful in office hours, etc. Highly recommend.
Prof. Jankowski is a hilarious professor who knows a lot about linear algebra. His quizzes are fairly easy, tests are slightly harder, but if you study the quizzes and homework ahead of time, you should do well. MATH 1553 also has a hearty curve, so it is very easy to get an A in the class.
Loved taking 2550 with him. Really helpful whenever anyone asked a question, and I actually understood the topic after he taught it (sat in on other 2550 professors and didn't understand at all). He's super structured and organized. Wish every professor was like him.
He is a good lecturer, organized and clear. but when it comes to the time when you have to encounter him individually (either when you just say hi or when you walked into his office hour) he becomes a super awkward guy. and office hour is not helpful. he would touch your question but never actually answer the question.
Professor Jankowski is a great professor. He's knowledgeable, and his lectures are helpful. He moves quickly, so be prepared. If you need someone to teach you Linear Algebra, take Jankowski! If you ever are confused or stuck on a problem, he is very approachable and will help during office hours or after class. Go to lecture and do the homework!
Jankowski's course is very lecture heavy, but his lectures were inclusive, thorough, and he even provided great exam related problems. Quizzes were okay - if you studied - and exams were a tad bit more difficult, but if you want a professor who'll actually stimulate your interest in linear algebra, go Jankowski.
Dr. Jankowski truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Linear Algebra is a hard class so you will need to work hard for it, but Jankowski makes it understandable. He's a little awkward socially but he is a great lecturer and easily accessible outside of class.
His lectures are great; I even have friends that wake up for his 8 AMs that aren't registered. He paces himself well and clarifies any questions. You don't have to go to class except for the occasional in-class poll (3 get dropped, 5% of grade). Quizzes are pretty easy (1 gets dropped), and midterms are fair (but slightly harder than other profs).
Class is engaging and I learned a lot. He is widely considered to be the best 1553 professor, and he explains the material well. 8am is absolutley worth it.
Despite him having class at 8 am, Jankowski proved to be a solid choice for Linear Algebra. His lectures are so clear and concise, and he can explain the material well. He is truly a god for Linear Algebra.
Jankowski is one of the best (along with Margalit) for 1553. His lectures are super helpful (you can miss 3), but a lot of it is on you to learn/master. Homework is due every Wednesday and quizzes are every Friday. Each midterm is 15% of your grade, & the final is 30%, which was bad and dropped my grade by a letter. You're gonna have to work hard.
he is worth the 8am. clear, thorough, helpful lectures. linear algebra is a very conceptual class, but between jankowski and the textbook, I understood all the concepts I need for the exams. quizzes are very straightforward, exams are a little more difficult, but examples done in class are helpful. one of the best linear algebra profs here.
Dr. Jankowski understands his material super well, but in lectures alone, you will feel like he is a walking textbook. Very accessible in office hours and the TAs that he has are amazing. Tests are unnecessarily hard and the entire class focuses on the conceptual instead of the application. Must go to class to get his notes. Hardest class I've had.
If you have to take this terrible class, at least take it with Jankowski. He's a really good lecturer and is easy to meet with outside of class for questions. The exams are pretty difficult but our class was curved at the end, which made up for it.
Prof. Jankowski is a legend. Not only is he genuinely caring about his students, hes a great professor as well. The way he explains concepts is clear and concise. In addition to that, his lectures are well-organized and engaging. If you have to the opportunity to have him as a professor, please take it, youll be in good hands.
Jankowski is the GOAT, worth the 8am.
Jankowski is a great teacher, and he gives you a lot of opportunities to practice to reinforce the information you learn in class. I never have problems understanding him, as he always speaks in a clear voice. His notes are also fairly simple to follow. To do well in this class, you definitely need to put in effort and do the homework.
Jankowski is extremely knowledgeable. You can tell how much he knows about the subject by his lectures, which are really informative and he tries to make hard concepts easy to understand. He also has an easy-going and calm presence.
Great lecturer, straightforward tests, just the right amount of HW. Take this professor.
He helps the class get through the 8 am. He is accessible and helpful, the class is straight forward, the homework is light, and tests are fair. If you understand the basics of linear algebra you will do great.
If you can, take him for 1553! His explanations were always clear and he somehow makes boring content interesting to listen to
(Currently taking this class) I'll level with you; this is a difficult class. However, the only reason the class was bearable was because of Jankowski and his flawless teaching. Paired with good office hours and dedication on his part he's without a doubt the best professor I've had at Tech. If you're stuck USE THE TEXTBOOK! (Its a lifesaver)
Honestly, even if you have Jankowski, this is going to be a challenging class. However, he was an amazing lecturer and explained concepts really well. The tests were difficult but fair, and he really cares about his students which showed during the online transition of the class.
I wish I'd gone to more of his lectures. He knows his stuff and how to teach but definitely use his class slide notes. He says the txtbook isn't necessary but it is helpful.
Waking up for an 8am math class sounds brutal, but Jankowski's class is worth waking up early for! The class is very difficult, but Jankowski has amazing lectures and awesome TAs. Jankowski and his TAs are very helpful if you ever need help. His quizzes are usually easy and his tests can be difficult, but gives lots of partial credit.
Dr. Jankowski was a very cool professor. He explained Linear Algebra in a way that was relatable, and he showed that he was really into what he was teaching. He clearly outlined what was expected in the class, and during the online transition he was very lenient in adjusting the grading scheme. Very down to earth guy, highly recommend him for this.
I think Jankowski is a great choice for 1553. His lectures are good and he usually works example problems which are useful. Make sure that you do not fall behind conceptually in this class; it all builds on itself. I think he focused more on computations than intuition for the concepts (but 3 blue 1 brown on youtube helped with this).
He was the primary teacher overseeing all of MATH 1551. This was the hardest course I've ever taken in my life, and I took AP Calculus AB in high school. This class made me question whether I could do classes at Georgia Tech. I still struggled after attending weekly 1-on-1 tutoring & PLUS sessions. Unlimited HW attempts saved me from a worse grade.
Dr. Jankowski is an amazing lecturer and explainer. Cannot skip the lectures because you won't pass the class. The quizzes and exams are made for you to work and pass. He truly wants you to pass and gives you the tools to do so. Great dude and 10/10 would take again.
Great professor! really enjoyed having him for 1551 and he made the class very doable. Study for quizzes and you will be just fine. Midterms aren't too hard, and it you do the homework you will do well.
Overall a great professor. He has a true passion for math and lectures are extremely helpful to learn the material. Tests seem to be much harder than practice exams and homework, so studying and asking questions is a must.
At first, I did not really understand his way of teaching, but this class really does make you work for your grade. I recommend going to his office hours because he is helpful there.
Hilarious and super-clear lectures with neat examples; Jankowski is one of the few math teachers I've had who actually made the class interesting and understandable at the same time. Still do your homework and read the textbook, but don't skip Jankowski's class.
Jankowski is a great lecturer. Linear algebra was ridiculously hard for me, but his lectures were really helpful. I thought the exams were unnecessarily difficult, and the class averages on several of them were really low. However, they curved our grades in the end which brought me from a C to a B. Going to Jankowski's lectures helped me to pass!
Great professor; knows exactly how to teach the material
For a 2 credit class, this was definitely what I didn't expect. It felt like I doomed to fail because the professor thinks the class material is obvious and quizzes were difficult. The book was the only resource that was helpful for me. Dr. Jankowski is very accessible outside of class but there are no extra credit opportunities. Didn't love it.
Jankowski is one of the few professors at Tech that can actually teach linear algebra effectively. I wouldn't say his teaching makes the material easier, but I understand it better after listening to his lectures. Whereas my friends with other profs had to read textbook to supplement lectures, I never felt it necessary to do the same.
Dr. Jankowski is an amazing professor that does a great job at breaking down the material, even though I honestly still only understand half of the curriculum taught, but that is more the difficulty of the material rather than poor teaching. Posts recordings of lectures online, definitely revisit them if needed. Free textbook is useful at times.
Professor Jankowski is incredibly well-prepared and manages class time extraordinarily. The course I took (Linear) had a good chunk of weekly homework, but Jankowski's lectures are extremely productive and informative.
Dr. Jankowski is one of the best professors I have ever had. Although Linear Algebra is confusing, he goes over the concepts slowly and thoroughly, and draws connections between concepts rather than just reiterating the textbook. You always feel comfortable to ask questions and he is very funny in class. He is kind, caring, and very smart.
Prof Jankowski is one of the best professors I've had. Linear algebra was a hard course but he explained all the topics extremely well and he was patient when we had questions. I would have never understood the topics if he wasn't my professor. If you're taking 1551, take it with him.
His lecture style is what makes him, by far, the best professor for this course. In addition, his website offers a plethora of previous semesters' lecture recordings and test resources for you to study with. The course material is by its very nature very conceptual and difficult to grasp at first so it's important to master the fundamentals early.
In love with this man. Super organized website/canvas. Explains difficult concepts very clearly and does many practice problems for you. Do the homework, attend lecture & studio, take as many practice exams as you can, and you'll do just fine in this course. Definitely an over-hated class.
Content was hard, but the professor made it easy to understand. If you keep up with the homework and attend office hours, it should be easy to pass with an A.
Dr. Jankowski's lectures are amazing! Go to class and pay attention and you can pass this class! The tests are based on your theoretical understanding of the material so it is pretty tricky. Dr. Jankowski hand writes notes in class so it is very easy to keep up and follow along. I definitely recommend taking his class!
Great lecturer, difficult class.
Jankowski was probably my favorite prof this semester. His lectures are well structured and go over everything perfectly. They're all recorded so attendance isn't necessary (never went to any in-person classes). Use the past years' calendars on his website to study for midterms and notes to study for weekly quizzes and you'll be fine.
By taking a basic calc class at GT, you're nearly guaranteed a prof who drew the short straw. This sums up the entire experience as it was clear he'd rather have a higher level class. If you don't have some background, you'll struggle. Given that, out of all the options that semester he was the best even if it was scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Super clear on what he expects and what you need to know and is always down to answer your questions. I learned a lot rather than just cramming material and forgetting all about it. Take notes with visuals and do an old midterm or two before each exam and you'll be fine
Professor Jankowski is definitely the best Linear professor at GT. The lectures had a good flow and were always interesting, homeworks and tests were fair, and the studio was also very helpful when in need of extra help. Overall a great class with lots of resources to succeed in it.
Prof Jankowski is definitely one of the best options for linear algebra. The subject matter itself is somewhat difficult, but he does a great job at explaining everything. Lectures are recorded which is convenient if you can't make it in person, and also lecture supplements you with the material needed to know for exams (don't need to rely on tb).
Chrisjmath (Dr. Jankowski's website) holds a special place in my heart. I didn't even have him, but his recorded lectures carried me through this course, and the practice midterms helped me tremendously throughout the semester. Dr. J makes this course very manageable (if you put in the effort), and he made me want to learn more about linear.
Does a great job preparing you for the exams and explaining the concepts without assuming you know too much. Exams are common to all sections so people claiming they're too hard isn't unique to him, but from what I know he's one of the best people to have for 1553.
Amazing enthusiasm in lectures, great at teaching, funny and engaging. Always full of energy, ready to explain things clearly and repeat if needed. Starts lectures with a recap of previous lecture's material, presents example problems well, tells us what questions will be on test, etc. Highly recommend. Subject can be challenging but tests are easy
Professor Jankowski was a great lecturer but went a little quickly. Overall good professor, super helpful.
Without having any prior linear algebra experience, Professor Jankowski made it fairly easy to catch up and become confident in the class. The tests took a lot of studying and there were a decent amount of quizzes and homeworks, but an A is definitely achievable.
Doesn't teach through a textbook but the course comes with a fantastic in-house textbook that's very helpful. My one complaint about 1553 was sometimes it felt overly complicated given the covered material. Regardless, great professor and posts his lectures online to all sections, so don't worry if you can't find a slot in his class.
Worth the 8 am. Funny guy who's good at what he teaches. Textbook free and online, and he recorded all of his lectures
love this guy. fs take him if you can. worth the 8am and you don't really have to go if you don't want to cuz he recorded all his lectures
I didn't have him directly however 1553 is standardized and I used all of his online lectures and resources instead of attending class. Amazing lecturer and a nice person.
Posts all of his lectures, definitely worth the 8am
Loved professor Jankowski's linear algebra class. Easy to follow along during lecture and gave insightful tips for the homework and exams. Would definitely recommend to anyone taking MATH 1553, and I would even skip your regular lecturer to go to Jankowski's class if you can't get a seat in his class.
His voice is so much fun to listen to! Lectures are engaging, and the course material is awesome. Thanks for the great semester.
Jankowski is a great lecturer who makes linear algebra inspirational and worth studying.
Very good teacher. The tests are pretty stressful with a lot of confusing true-false questions. I would recommend thoroughly reading Interactive Linear Algebra by Dan Margalit.
His lectures are really good. If you preview the content in the textbook before lecture it help a lot.
Prof. Jankowski is a great professor. he loves what he does and is caring about his students. Makes it easier to learn linear algebra. He is probably the better of the linear teachers, even if tests are hard. make sure to know your T/F. Take him if you can, he's awesome.
His lectures are very clear and helpful, however, they are all pre-recorded so attendance isn't necessary. The exams are fair but require a lot of conceptual knowledge. He is very understanding and accommodating
An actual legend around campus. Dr. Jankowski makes the concepts for linear so much easier to understand compared to the book. His lectures are very clear and even at 8 am he knows how to crack a joke or two. Tests are pretty similar to practice tests you are given so just do those and you are set.
Wonderful professor that made the 8am bearable. Very clear and concise lectures that made linear algebra much easier to learn. He is very passionate and makes a joke or two, which is great for an 8am class. Take him over ANY other linear professor. He prepares the exams, so attending his lectures definitely gives you an advantage. Use his website.
Dr. Jankowski is an amazing lecturer and makes linear really easy to understand. If you can't get a seat in his class, just watch his videos instead of going to your class- seriously. Exams are super similar to the practice exams. The only downside is that he's low-key mean and never responds with care to students, but you'll get an A if you try.
AMAZINGGGGG!! If you are taking 1553 TAKE HIMMMM! His lectures are very straightforward with great notes (my friends with other professors always looked at my notes). His teaching makes 1553 a lot easier to understand!
Take him! GOAT of linear algebra. Lectures are online too so in person not necessary (better to go). 5 point quizzes and studio every week except midterm weeks. Webwork homework every week, pretty simple. Midterms are brilliant and exactly like practice. Jankowski quickly responds to questions and his lectures are wonderful and easy to understand.
Take him! GOAT of linear algebra. Lectures online too so no need in person (better to go). 5-point quizzes and studio every week except midterm weeks. Webwork homeworks every week; pretty straightforward. Midterms are brilliant and exactly like practice ones. Jankowski quickly responds to any questions and his lectures are a breeze to understand.
Teaches well but is lowk a bit rude/mean for no reason. Just asking him questions about the test and he gives very bluntily rude responses. He's a good professor but not enjoyable to email or communicate with. I would avoid him and try to get a more understanding and nice professor.
Linear is unlike any math I've done before, but Jankowski did amazing at breaking it down. Only need to watch the online lectures, attendance is not mandatory. It was tought, but I did well thanks to his lectures.
Good man. All lecture videos are also available online with this guy so it doesn't matter what professor you choose as long as you use his videos. For me, linear algebra was just a hard topic in general so I would recommend reading the textbook and seriously paying attention to the lectures or recorded videos. Overall, a course with solid teaching.
Very helpful and kind. Explains concepts thoroughly and always willing to help students in office hours. Office hours are usually full, so get there early. I didn't have him as my prof, but I watched his online lectures and made an A (don't get behind, though). Read the textbook and take all the practice exams on his website.
I assumed that all of the amazing reviews of Jankowski were exaggerating but they REALLY were not. Jankowski is an AMAZING professor and knows how to successfully organize the course in a way that makes the material easy to navigate and understand. No confusion. Just show up to lectures, do the WebWorks, and look at the (free) online textbook!
Jankowski is the best 1553 professor at GT. His lectures are really good and he covers all the content on exams. Tests are fair and practice exams are easily accessible-- make sure to do them!! This course is test-heavy so make sure to prep for those in advance. He is super nice and cares about his students! Awesome dude!
He was super nice and very easy to talk to during office hours. Attendance is not mandatory, except for studio sessions where it is required. Quizzes are all on your own time, and the homework is not bad at all. The best way to study is with the old exams, and he provides good examples in class. Recorded lectures available too.
He was amazing at teaching linear.
Great professor! Math is not really my thing, so this class was difficult, but he was still a wonderful professor. He explained topics clearly and has all of his lectures posted so if you miss a class it isn't the end of the world.
The best professor here at tech! He writes out all the lectures on a paper under a projector and explains everything so well, you can tell that he really KNOWS and is passionate about linear algebra, and he ties every concept together so well. Great person and great teacher.
Jankowski is one of the best Georgia Tech professors. Last semester (Fall 24) he won an award for being the student body's favorite professor. His lectures are very good and if you don't get him as your professor, consider watching his recorded lectures.
best prof for 1553. if you can take him and if you can't use the videos he has uploaded online for extra help
Chill guy, not that understanding though.
This professor is known to be a very good lecturer of Math 1553. His lectures are nearly flawless and very timely, however I didn't feel that he engaged the class super well.
Would 10000% take him again. He has his lectures perfected and breaks down complicated topics to an understandable level. He makes the class very forgiving, even if someone isn't doing too good. There are so many opportunities for points and credit.
Best MATH1553 teacher ever!! TAKE HIM! Linear algebra is an abstract and conceptual class, but Jankowski teaches it in an easy manner. He talks clearly and has pre-recorded lecture videos from a previous year. In addition, there is a grand amount of study material to use to your advantage. Overall, I felt like the class was pretty easy.
I am not a math person but Jankowski made understanding the content easy. He also quite funny and keeps the lectures light. The resources for his class are well organized and helpful.
Super goated professor, made the class easy.
I loved his handwritten lecture style, but he writes fast, so be prepared. He was a decent professor, better than the others, but I personally did not get the hype. He is patient with his students and is very focused in lecture, so no fluff. I did a decent amount of work outside of class to understand the material. Practice exams are the real exam!
The concepts in this class can be pretty confusing but he explains them pretty well. I think his lectures are fine but from what I've heard none of the other 1553 lecturers are good and people end up going to Jankowski's lectures instead, so he's definitely the one to pick. Do practice tests to review for the tests because they are very similar.
You can either watch lectures in person or watch his videos. Both are very good. Make sure to not fall behind. Also if you get another lecturer, you can always just watch his videos instead.
bucket loves this guy
Professor Jankowski is a great professor. He was a good presenter and would explain in class. It is easy to access him via Piazza, office hours, or after class. Apart from being a good lecturer, he was a personable guy and would yap about his life stories. He is the course director and posts plenty of resources. Use resources and ask for help!
This class is not too hard to get an A in if you study well. The tests are kind of difficult and it's easy to get points off because a lot of questions are true/false or select all that apply, but if you understand the content well enough, it's usually fine. He has lecture videos and slides posted, so you don't have to go to lectures either.
Best professor for MATH1553, lectures are so clear and easy-to-follow. Grading policies are very clear, and the practice tests are extremely helpful. As long as you attend his lectures and do practice tests, you'll be guaranteed to have a good score.
Very clear teaching. Since he was the course coordinator he would actually teach the kind of material that would be on the tests. Large bank of practice tests that are very similar to every midterm/final, and an archive of all of his lecture videos in case you miss or need to refresh.
goat 🙏 just grind practice exams
