The class isn't that hard just A LOT of work! He is very picking and tears apart exams. He gives you so many assignments throughout the semester and its basically just annoying!!!
This course was a requirement, or I would have dropped it quickly. I believe he confuses quantity of work with quality -and demands much work for little value. I think he cannot teach at the graduate level. In the future, I will avoid Joiner at ALL costs, changing schools if necessary.
He is helpful when he sees that you are putting the effort to learn. His exams are easy but he grades REALLY REALLY hard. You would think you got an A coming out of an exam but end up with a C. He explains well though
Terrible Professor!! Would not recommend him at all. Whenever he passed back assignments it seemed that he took off way too many points for something minor and his comments were too vague. SOM needs to reconsider holding on to a lot of the professors who teach, especially him.
Terrible teacher. Would not reccommend at all. He's extremely difficult in grading written assignments. Exams are difficult.. would have thought you gotten at least a B coming out of the exam but end up failing it.. don't take him
he rips threw assignments. Make sure you profread everything and that it flows well with ideas. He expects quality content. The tests are hard= memorize the slide since he'll ask you the most irrelevant item on the tests. Intensive essays on the tests. Nice guy if he knows your serious.
This class has the potential to be pretty decent as an elective; unfortunately, he did not put enough effort into making it that way. Make sure you study from the study guides for the exams and you will do fine. Most importantly, don't get stuck with a poo poo group.
Professor Joiner was hard but a fair grader in my opinion. He is very clear about his requirements for the assignments, which is why I think he is fair. Exams are semi difficult. As long as you study the slides and the study guide, you should be fine. Don't even bother buying the book.
Terrible Professor!! Would not recommend him at all. He passed back assignments and is not clear what he wants. He takes off points for something minor. I am disappinted with SOM who continues to retain this professor.
Horrible Professor. Is not clear on what he wants. You get your tests back and he grades you off on the smallest things for the essays and you have to fight your answer and show him you answered it right for him to always say "Oh I missed that I'm sorry" AVOID!!
Heard horror stories about him, but could not get around taking him and he didn't turn out all that bad. The exams were very very tricky, and the group project was hard---but class was interesting, and I did well on the papers which helped my grade. Just come to class and meet with him if you seem to be falling behind.
The best grad professor i've had at Mason. Knows the material and how to teach. Does not just run through boring lectures with a bunch of slides. Final research paper was long, but a good group shouldn't have any problems. I thought the class was very interesting and relevant to today's society. I would totally recommend Joiner and the class.
Horrible professor. Unclear what he wants on papers and essay questions for tests. Even though there's a study guide, unclear of what to study for test do get above a C. Going to class was practically useless in regards to the test. Reading the text helps contect topics but unless you have a photographic memory expect to not get an A or a B.
Horrible professor.. Extremely unclear of what he wants on text essays and in papers. Every time someone asks a question or has concerns in class he's very rude. Interesting subject manner if you study it on your own. Book is decent too so I would just study that and know every single thing about every subject down to every small detail.
Unfortunately the class concept is a hybrid of PR and Marketing which begs the question if the class is useful in the real business environment. It?s not! Joiner work material is driven by corporate standardized process. Tests are quirky and exact -exact definitions are required otherwise one will be severely penalized. Class lectures dealing with
Nice guy but kind of a pain when it comes to grading. His grading of the written assignments just didn't make sense, especially since reading his handwriting is impossible.
Professor Joiner is INCREDIBLY detail oriented, so save yourself the heartache and take a different elective if you aren't. That being said, follow his instructions to a T and you'll do perfectly fine. His presentations drag on, but he is always more than willing to help or further clarify his requirements. Would be an great class with diff prof.
Nice enough guys. Lectures arent the most exciting ones ever, but are well organized and he seems competent on the subject. Case studies ended almost every class. All in all, one of the better courses in the MBA track in my opinion.
Professor joiner got a ton of bad reviews, but he really wasn't bad at all. Although his exams are hard, he is a nice guy and is very wiling to help you. Just make sure to let him know asap if you need help, and let him know if you are planning on missing a class. Otherwise, not a bad guy at all
The only good thing about his class was that he actually happens to be a decent lecturer. That said, hw's are extremely difficult & time consuming. I put forth a lot of time & effort on the hw's and while I received no less than A's on them, he doesn't seem to realize students have other classes/a 'life' to tend to; his expectations for undergrads are way too high. Exams are extremely tricky & is very poorly designed in terms of truly testing one's knowledge of concepts/materials learned.
This teacher was terrible. I would say avoid as much as possible. The hw was too time consuming, test was tricky and he's a strict grader. The cherry on the Sunday is there's no study guide. The guy is too confusing and tries to down play stuff. If I took this class w/ someone else I would've had an A but instead I didn't. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
Not recommended whatsoever. Impossible standards and generally an unpleasant man. Take someone else.
Contrarly to what I've read about how Professor Joiner is terrible, I think he's an incredible speaker and I really enjoyed every of his lectures. If you work on the assignments and the exams, then there's no reason that you'll get a bad grade or fail.
Prof. Joiner is the man! I don't know what happened with these negative reviews. He's funny, engaging, and will go the extra mile to help if you reach out to him. 3 Exams based on slides. Major group project will require time and effort. Good feedback on papers, he rewards effort, participation, and enthusiasm
Really great teacher, tough grader. Exams are MC and Essay. You MUST study for the exams, there is no way around it. He really cares about his students and what he's teaching so thats why his grading can be tough. You really do learn a lot in this class. I'm not a straight A student but he was my favorite professor.
he is an incredible speaker and have clear grading criteria. You must go to the lecture and take not in order to do well on test. I got an A in his class (textbook isnt necessary)
His class was so confusing, he never had it clear what he wanted on homework assignments. The group projects were hands down the world the worst. Avoid him if possible.
Professor Joiner is a decent teacher. He knows what he is talking about when it comes to marketing. I definitely would suggest buying the textbook. His lectures include power-points which I thought were very helpful. He gave 3 MC exams (including final) and 1 big group assignment. Fairly easy as long as you pay attention and read
test are about 7-9 chapters worth. study guide is helpful but not specific. tough grading. its possible to pass but it requires ALOT of note taking and reading. he can be helpful ONLY if you ask.
Boring lectures and hard grader. He gives you a study guide but wants specific details on the exams. His exams consisted of multiple choice and short answer. The MC would be about 55% and the short answer was about 45% of the total exam grade. There is a horrendous semester long group project with a 30 minute presentation at the end.
Avoid this class if you can. Professor Joiner gets paid WAY too much to be a terrible teacher. If you have to take this as an elective you will have to participate way too much. Study way to hard to still not get a good grade. He wears huge clothes and is rail thin. Not worth your time you are better off taking any other marketing class!!!
He hates it when students ask questions during the lecture. So avoid doing that. IT'S A LECTURE HEAVY CLASS. A horrendous semester-long group project is given so pick good partners. As for exams, they're easy. Make your study guide according to the slides and then just skim over the textbook for good measure. (60ish all multiple choice questions)
I went in with an open mind but came out with dissatisfaction. Maybe it was me, but I could never get up to the level of involvement needed to make this class likeable. He is flexible but he leaves you with many unanswered questions. Exams are very dense. The group project is very dense. Note, connect with him early and keep up appearances.
Professor Joiner is a nice guy, and he's very thoughtful and caring for the students. However, he lectures heavy without trying to make the class stimulating, so it could get super boring on his class. The group project is huge, so make sure you got solid teammates. The exams rely heavily on PowerPoints (not textbook), so make sure you take notes!
His teaching strategy is very ineffective. His homework is very brutal and his exams aren't any better. The multiple choice is not that bad however; his 6 short answer can be brutal. Their is a grueling group project that consist a useless progress report and a 30 minute presentation. Don't take him if you can.
He is an okay professor at best. When he returns the papers, his handwriting is barely legible. He gives better feedback in his office hours than his written feedback.
he loves to take off unnecessary points (like using synonyms in definitions). His short answer on the exam are brutal. The class is so boring and dry and "participation matters" but he talks the entire time making it impossible. All these reviews are accurate. DO NOT TAKE. He makes really easy concepts hard, and provide illegible feedback. AVOID
I recommend never taking a single class with him. His feedback is not "constructive criticism" it is rude. He grades super harshly - do not use "encoding" instead of "encode" if you want to get loose points on a test. He is boring. He is rude to students. He makes no attempt to get to know you personally or help you professionally. Awful.
I'm very split about Professor Joiner. On one hand, the material, knowledge and explanations are really great. It's something new and not just EVERY marketing on campus, though he can get redundant and boring. The way he interacts with students is either really encouraging or condescending and rude. I cant quite tell if I like him, or vice versa
I actually like Professor Joiner. The layout of the class is pretty straightforward, 3 exams, 2 individual assignments, and a semester-long group project with a presentation at the end. Just make sure you have reliable group members. If you're a decent writer you should be fine! I'm taking him again next semester
I enjoyed both this course and the professor. The material and structure are straightforward. He is a fair grader and his exams are very easy. Choose your group project members wisely! You are only required to complete 2/4 assignments. His handwriting is extremely difficult to read, though. Overall, he is a nice person, and a great choice!
He's a nice guy outside of the classroom, but when it comes to being a teacher he really sucks at it. Be prepared to have to learn the material yourself. All he does is read the powerpoint slides and when it comes to exam time (which there are 3) the info you'd think would be on the test is not. I hope to never take him again. Worst professor ever.
Its definitely possible to do well in his class but you have to put in a lot of work. Youre required to complete 4 individual papers and about 3 or 4 group ones. Make sure you really follow the guidelines and even then he will probably find something you were 100% sure you did right and say its wrong. Really tough grader and lengthy mc exams!!!
Honestly he's an alright guy personality wise. I'm writing this specifically to warn that he's a really tough grader, so just do EXACTLY what he wants. He writes super clear and detailed instructions, follow them to a T and you'll be fine. Work isn't SUPER difficult, just get yourself a good group.
He lectures straight off of the PowerPoint and maybe asks a question or two yet participation matters. He purposely looks for reasons to grade harshly. I would take any other elective marketing course if possible.
He never finished his long lecture a second early, even though it was nearly three hours long. its a weird homework grading system, where everybody does what they are supposed to do, but the grades are poor.
Most monotone dude you'll ever meet. Beware, he is so degrading and will belittle you to beyond words. Absolutely no respect for other people. Grades so harshly -- I have never received less than an A in my English classes and he'd grade me as if I English was my 5th language. Get on his good side or else you are screwed.
Never taking him again. He seems passionate but he's also very opinionated when it comes to grading assignments. He never just grades based off of you meeting requirements. If he thinks it's not 'adequate', he docks a lot of points. Group project sucks. No effort in helping groups choose their group mates and it was a major part of the grade.
Do not do it to yourself! His grading style can be described as very rude and condescending, doesn't seem to care much about his students. Extremely tough grader on on everything! Even if you follow his guidelines to the tee still expect to lose points. The class tends to do really bad on exams and instead of owning up he talks down on our ability.
He is very blunt, but he is willing to help students who ask. His grading is confusing at times, and the short answer portion of the exam is daunting, but if you go to his office hours or email him he'll tell you his system more clearly. The group project is demanding but doable if you ask him questions frequently and show some effort. Good choice!
Professor Joiner is extremely passionate and well-spoken. His lectures are dry, long, and don't expect to leave early (except after exams). Don't buy the textbook -study from the ppts, and GL :) Graded Assignments: choice of 2/4 solo assignments, semester-long group project (4 papers and a presentation), and the 3 exams (final is NOT cumulative).
He's awful. His feedback for graded work is extremely rude and unprofessional. Hes picky on everything and has strict policies for assignmnts when it comes to simply turning them in. I'm taking his online course due to Covid-19 and we have to cover 4 chapters a week followed by a 60 question exam. He's ridiculous.
He is average at best, long boring lectures, tough grader on assignments and definitely super picky of grading papers, try to avoid typos and put your last name in your project or he will give you an F. Tests are fair, however make sure you read the book and not just the powerpoints because his slides are useless.
His online class is Extremely Busy, we have to read 4 chapters every week, do Paper assignments, work in the discussion board, 3-4 quizzes and a Test. Just to make things worse, he is Super Picky grading papers and Extremely rude when he gives you feedback. He will make sure that you feel Miserable when you see your feedback.
This professor is ridiculous. We all unfortunately have to take online classes along side with OTHER classes as well and the amount of work he has due every week takes up ALL the time of any of my other classes. I think its selfish how much work is assignment when professors know we have other tedious online classes as well.
Tough grader, which is fine. But his feedback is snarky and doesn't offer much constructive criticism
He's super RUDE. He talks to students as if we're not people and is not respectful at all. He's a super petty grader and his lectures are terrible and boring. Don't try and ask questions because he'll most likely give a smart remark back that won't be helpful at all.
He wasn't a very helpful professor. He usually has a really sarcastic remark for you if/when you ask for help. If you can get into the class with another professor, I would recommend because he's actually awful. If you want people to learn the material, this isn't the approach to take. Terrible professor overall.
just don't take him. worst professor to take during a worldwide pandemic. no leniency or understanding. doesn't take late assignments, but again we're in a pandemic. tough grader, but you don't really know what he's going to grade you on even if there's a rubric because he has his own biases. just a terrible professor.
Whole grade is 3 exams in lockdown browser w/ video, huge group project, quizzes and discussion board due every week. Gives feedback in the form of question marks on papers that you really do WANT and NEED feedback on. Super tough grader!! Does not except late work whatsoever at all, one minute late in a pandemic, still a 0 in the gradebook.
Extremely condescending and rude on his feedback, he has literally left "???" as feedback. Textbook is a good way to build and further your depth on the weekly subjects, but the PowerPoints should be enough. Make sure to understand the definitions of key concepts, and understanding them conceptually. Isn't the hardest class but it isn't easy.
Prof. Joiner is snarky and condescending when giving feedback to students who are genuinely trying to do their best on assignments and makes every effort to deduct as many points as possible when grading. Also, he acts as though we are not living through a global pandemic and his asynchronous class is the only thing we have going on in our lives.
It seems like Professor Joiner likes to leave rude and condescending comments on student's work. Instead of constructive criticism, he gives mean criticism which does not really help. The class is very group project heavy so if you get a good group, you will be fine.
Nope.
Prof. Joiner is a very harsh grader and quite nitpicky. I understand that the class should be difficult but he will fail you if your files are not named properly. The comments he leaves on papers are more often than not condescending and rude and are rarely helpful in any way. He won't accept work that is a minute late and will not take criticism.
Very poor lectures, extremely harsh grader, and is more condescending than helpful. Will not tell you exactly whats wrong, and doesnt say how you can do better. Will literally be like this doesnt make any sense. And thats your feedback. dont take him even if hes the last available!!!
hes the worst. someone in my class askes a genuine question and he said, " are u serious?" so rude to students.
This professor is a terrible example of University Professor role in a student life. He is not there to teach but to make a income off of us. Don't ask questions as he will not answer to you. Tough grader, 60 % group work, 3 exams and 10 quizzes. It was by far the worst experience I have ever been given as a student
The group project is time-consuming and the directions are not always clear. The feedback given on assignments was not very helpful or just unnecessary. Most of your grade rides on 3 closed-book exams and the group project which consists of multiple parts. Harsh grader.
A rude, condescending, hateful guy. Lectures are subpar. In a meeting, after he shot down a question I had, I said I dont like the way you speak to me sometimes. That lit a fire into him. He got about 1ft from my face and told me Im sensitive and crazy and to deal with him because hes from NY? Then he basically stormed out. Made me uncomfortable
This is by far the worst professor I have had. Perhaps the worst teacher I've had at any level of education. The way in which the group project information is given out is rather vague and cryptic, leaving students to attempt to figure out what is being asked of them. This is met with incredibly rude and unhelpful feedback. Terrible
Good luck if you're taking this class with professor joiner. He does not give helpful editing whatsoever and normally consists of "???" comments as if that is helpful for anyone. There is 1 group project for the whole semester, 3 hard exams, weekly quizzes, and an individual assignment. Difficult grader and not pleasant to talk to either.
he is very strict with timed submissions, dont submit anything late or he will give you a zero. harsh grader. group projects suck.
I took this professor because the course was not offered by any other professor and I wish I never did. He isn't a bad professor per se he's just very cynical and condescending to the point that his comments and feedbacks absolutely give you no guidance on how to fix it. Also a very tough grader. Do NOT take the class with Joiner.
Garbo professor. I did an excellent job on every individual assignment and looked past his negative and rude comments. The group project really sucks, if you get a bad team he basically says tough luck. Only reason why I didnt get an A is the group assignments which take a majority of your grade. If you can take someone else do it!
on my written assignments I was received with "????" as comments and no other criticism. I can't really do better next time if I am just given question marks with no substance. rude teacher that must have pension. would never take him again.
Avoid taking prof Joiner if you can!!!! Very tough grader with instructions usually being vague. Unhelpful feedback and comments on papers most of the time. You are assigned a group for a semester-long group project. His exams are by far one of the hardest I've had in my college career. He is a nice person but not a very nice teacher/professor.
Honestly I was very scared to take this class after reading the terrible reviews about him. But I still took his online summer class and it wasn't even that bad. There are 3 exams lots of discussion boards but that's about it. It's a very straightforward and easy class. I'm not a straight A student and I'm still receiving an A.
Simply Bad, poor instructions on HW and assignments. Bad and very rude feedback. He clown's the student for not understanding his poorly constructed instruction. This man is finessing his superiors.
ive never met a professor that was THIS rude in my college career. extremely harsh feedback and is very unhelpful. its honestly so sad. i recommend to take literally anyone else.
Extremely passive aggressive when leaving feedback, it seems as though he's yelling at you when leaving comments on your paper. Absolutely horrible, one of the rudest professors I have EVER had. What a shame if you end up having him as your professor, all I can say is good luck. You're going to need it.
this professor is EXTREMELY rude its actually pathetic as if he has nothing better going on in his life. his feedback is harsh and it's completely discouraging to students that are trying their best. don't take him.
In my opinion, the bad ratings are unwarranted. He has very specific grading criteria, but his instructions are clear. His feedback is critical but detailed and specifically tells you how to improve your work going forward. Lectures are easy to understand. Most of the bad ratings were probably written by students that did his assignments last minute
Average professor. His feedback can be rude and aggressive but his grading is pretty fair and average. There are 4 individual writing assignments but only 2 is graded. Exams are straight forward if you do your weekly homework and exams.
None of his feedback was constructive, just a bunch of "??????" Thanks, Professor. Understood what to fix clearly! Would have preferred some advice since I'm, you know, paying to be here. Grade would've been higher if I did my work, though. Not too hard but his feedback and grading just sucks.
Nice guy, but a little hard to sit through his class. I stopped going to lectures because I was bored out of my mind. Grades tough but mostly with his comments. He gave me a 76 for an assignment that he absolutely LAID INTO in the comments. He doesn't want to give anyone a bad grade, just keep an eye out for due dates and stick to the slides,.
This class was very easy as a marketing major. Exams are on lockdown with webcam. Discussion board is easy. Make sure you follow instructions for individual assignments, he'll give a bunch of "?????" as comments. He doesn't wamt to fail his students. Also, he is the lead instructor of this course. Good Luck.
Oh my! I don't know where to start. This course is very easy, but somehow it's unorganized. Took it in the summer. There are 3 exams lockdown w/webcam. 4 Individual assignments, 2 are only graded. Discussion boards, and about lots of quizzes. Extra credit is given. Barely I passed, and it's time consuming.
Absolute worst professor I have taken in the summer. Although quizzes and exams were easy. The discussions and individual writing assignments are a big pain. Gives nonsense feedback with no help at all. This class is required and he is the lead instructor!!!!
The first two weeks, I did not understand why he had bad reviews. After a month of taking him, I now COMPLETELY understand why he has a well-deserved low rating. I have never had a professor as rude as he is. His feedback is also extremely passive aggressive with a lot of "???" as if that is helpful. Avoid him for your sake.
Terrible lectures (you can barely hear him), he grades like you're a PhD student on discussion boards, and he has an attitude. He has a passive-aggressive tendency and infinitely complex assignments where he will dock points if you don't describe something to the exact tee. Unfortunately, he is the only MKTG312 professor, so good luck.
I think he is nice and his lectures are interesting, but students in the class are not very attentive - if students ask more questions during class time I feel like it could be better also it might be nice if he provides more opportunity for students to participate in class discussions. He is a tough grader & not clear instructions for assignments.
Basically no matter how hard you try, he will always find something to critique. This is fine but his feedback is rather rude and condescending instead of helpful positive critique. Unclear on what he wants from assignments. This professor needs to seriously take a class on constructive criticism. Exams are rather hard as well. If you can, avoid.
would highly advise on finding another professor. Harsh grader- does not provide specific feedback or in general, good feedback. claims his instructions are "clear", but they are far from that- has a rude, unnecessarily sarcastic personality - the lectures are boring and basically useless. please take my advice and avoid this professor!
This professor is one of the rudest, ill-mannered, outright mean professors I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. No viable feedback from his "comments", just a bunch of passive aggressive comments that lower student morale.
When giving feedback he would comment things like "???!!!", "Why is this here??!!!", very condescending. Can be pretty rude at times. One thing I will say is that the weekly quizzes are easy, there is a group project that is a semester long, which isn't meant to be hard, but he makes it hard. Sadly, he is the only one that teaches this course.
This guy should be fired from GMU. I don't understand the instructions of this course. His feedback is harsh. He is rude and give attitude aggressively. Instructions are confusing. He will definitely give you a bunch of "???" as comments. Really? He is the only head instructor of this course. GMU needs to find better mktg professors to replace him.
Very bad and unprofessional. No comments on writing assignments. Lots of annoying "??????" when giving feedback. How can you expect us to understand what we did wrong? He also gives harshly rude feedback with an attitude fashion. There is no other professor to take than this dude. He shouldn't be a GMU marketing professor at all.
This professor has given his students horrible feedback on the work they submit. He has been so rude to his students in class too. He does not want to help students when they need it most. He gave me so many horrible feedbacks such as "This was too limited." He has not given that much advice to his students and that makes him very unprofessional.
He gives the worst feedback on your assignments and the way he comments on your papers you can tell he has an attitude. He uses all caps and emphasizes his confusion with our work with three question marks. He says we didn't follow his instructions clearly even though his instructions were very vague. Really an unprofessional and rude professor.
Where do I even start...his assignments aren't too bad but he is so rude when it comes to giving his students feedback. He's strict on how he wants his assignments done and if not done according to how he explicitly wants them done, you get a bad grade. This is a class, not a corporate company job.
He's been available for office hours and after class for the most part. He is critical with writing assignments. Sometimes, I felt unsure of his assignment instructions. If I could do the semester over again, I probably would have asked him to clarify assignment instructions, so that I could make sure that I am following his instructions.
his class is manageable and it's not hard to pass but bro is so snarky for no reason. the directions he provides for assignments are vague and he gives u an attitude instead of feedback. leaves a bunch of "???" on papers and condescending comments. provides many opportunities for grades but doesn't have the best attitude
he loves to use ??? as his main comment when grading. very harsh in his comments and yet his grades arent terrible bc i ended with a b+. he is unavoidable. best advice: pay attention to deadlines, details, and attend class! pray you get a good group for the semester! there are several group papers and a final presentation. weekly chapters, quiz, db
Pickiest grader ever...left me at a B+ at 89.5. Heavy grader, lots of papers and heavily detailed discussion boards. IF YOU DO NOT WRITE YOUR DISCUSSION BOARDS IN DETAIL, HE WILL DEDUCT POINTS. He's also very passive aggressive in his comments. It's sad that he is one of the main professors, as he is definitely just a barrier.
I advise anyone not to take this guy. He is the worst professor. This guy, when it comes to group projects, leaves weird question marks. He gives horrible criticism that doesn't help people improve on their work. This guy made this class take an online exam in class. Even though it was online, we could just take it home. I lost respect for him.
Christopher Joiner is NOT an educator, the worst professor I have ever had to submit work to because he did not teach anything. He is an information sharer, not a teacher. This 6 week summer course was literally the exact same as the 16 week he made no effort to adjust the type of assignments to ensure that all could learn from the content.
He's ok. The comments about his feedback are true. He isn't mean irl but comments will for sure come across like it. If you're confused about the project/assignments (you will be) talk to him individually and do EXACTLY what he wants. Lectures are boring but go to class for participation points. I didn't buy textbook. Tests easy. You'll be fine.
Honestly, he's not that bad. I took him online over the summer, and it was great that we didn't have to do a group project for MKTG312 because I heard he could be really harsh with the grading of those. Only had to do 2/4 individual assmts., a few exams, and discussion board posts. To me, he was very kind in my experiences communicating with him!
Want a Professor who is passive-aggressive, whose grades are heavily dependent on group work, who insults his student's intelligence, who loves hearing himself talk, and who thinks "???" are appropriate comments for assignment grade feedback? Look no further than Professor Joiner. I strongly advise you to seek a different instructor.
This is the worst class I have every taken in college. He deducts so many points for the smallest mistakes and has no leniency. The entire class is based on group projects which is incredibly difficult for an online asynchronous course. His comments come across rude and are extremely unhelpful.
PLEASE save yourself and do NOT take his courses!!! As a marketing concentration, I wanted to take as many in person electives as possible, but It is NOT worth it for this Prof. Extremely tough grader, useful lectures every class, and super challenging exams!!! I never thought I would be so stressed over an elective in my college career.
very condescending and extremely strict on deadlines and formatting
He's pretty much unavoidable, so from someone who was successful I'll say this: quizzes and tests are easy if you read the textbook and study the videos/powerpoints he posts. RUTHLESS paper grader, but if you email him a draft he will tell you everything you need to get an A. Follow his instructions and advice and you're golden. Lotta work tho
Toughest grader ever, I only got a 100 on one discussion this entire semester. Does not explain things clearly in instructions, and will be leaving snarky comments on your work if you do it wrong. Does not provide valuable feedback, just leaves "???" and sounds rude. Don't take him if you want to actually enjoy and learn from your marketing class.
This professor can be picky and passive-aggressive, but engaging with his system pays off. Definitely use unstuck ai and the textbook to prep - the content isn't too difficult, but you'll need to follow instructions closely.
the worst professor i've EVER had in my college career. rude, VERY strict, VERY particular. yes, the questions marks and snarky comments ARE TRUE. you probably cant avoid him so you'll have to endure the misery of having HIM as your professor. the class material itself isnt hard and somewhat interesting. it's HIM that makes it unbearable. good luck
Genuinely he is not a good person or a person that should be dealing with other people. He does nothing to help you but leaves insanely rude comments on feedback for papers. The class is not necessarily difficult, but he is a very difficult person to deal with. Take any other professor possible because it is appalling that this guy has a job.
Unclear feedback/instructions, harsh comments, and grading are a few ways I can describe this professor. If you ask for clarification on feedback, he is harsh in response. Received comments like, "I am giving you some points simply because you turned “something” in," which is insane coming from a professor. Avoid if you can, and listen to reviews.
If being a horrible human had a championship Christopher would be the Nick Saban of professors. He personally attacks you when grading your papers and will make you feel horrible. My team and I are all used to writing papers but this guy makes it seem as if we are on a 1st grade level. Replies consist of "???" or "really?" avoid him please.
He's rude with some of his feedback on written work. Expect “???”, “what???”, “really???”, and other vague comments. The group project is research heavy and has a 30 min recorded presentation as its final. The course itself is average, read the instructions carefully and you'll be ok (most people don't). Not a hard class but avoid if you're busy.
Absolutely terrible professor. Worst one i've ever had. No matter how much work you put into any assignment, he will find something to knit pick and will give you a low grade. Everyone in my class was complaining about him. He is merciless and doesn't want the best for his students. Seems like he has an ego problem. DONT TAKE HIM
I know this sounds crazy, but I enjoyed Professor Joiner's class. Is his feedback useless and hurtful? Yes. Are his requirements and expectations unreasonably high and unnecessary? Also yes, but I can't discredit the fact that he's an amazing lecturer and knows so much about mktg. ACTUALLY read the syllabus and ask him for help when needed!
Alright. It seems that he enjoys making student's lives difficult, and he leaves harsh feedback on assignments. BUT his lectures are great, and most things he nitpicks on do have valid points. If you take time to meet with him and understand what he's getting at, you can get a lot out of this class and succeed. It was tough, but I learned a lot.
Great lectures and helpful resources that support learning/understanding material. But, incredibly harsh when it comes to grading/feedback!!!! Nitpicks the smallest things, I know it's part of a professor's job, but the way he delivers his feedback feels unnecessarily mean and disrespectful!!! If you can, I would recommend avoiding this professor!
Prof. Joiner's experience & passion for consumer behavior make his lectures amazing. Most of the negative reviews are about his feedback, which can be confusing & vague. Read the syllabus carefully for written/group assignments! Participate in class, ask questions about material/assignments, he wants you to succeed, but requirements are specific!
He's incredibly harsh with his feedback. There's a huge difference between constructive criticism and passive aggressive feedback. He's the latter. He's incredibly picky in what he wants, and changes his requirements every time. Mason needs another professor for this class, because so many students have complained about him. He's a rat.
Classes can be slow but overall they're fine. However, his feedback is just not constructive. I'm not sure if he truly means what he says but it just feels downright rude. If you do the work, you'll pass but he will test your patience the entire semester. Don't bother appeasing him, there will always be something he didn't like about your paper.
Even as a high achieving student, this class was ridiculous. The content of the course was not difficult, however, the professor was. To start, his feedback was rude and insane! I am pretty sure he wrote "Is this a joke!!" on a students paper. If your group sucks, he barley helps, and your grades will reflect theirs, no matter what. Worst class.
"????" is his only comment that he grades on every single writing assignment. This is ridiculous! He is also rude and mean when you ask questions or help. This professor shouldn't deserve to teach at GMU. Avoid at all costs!
