Great teacher, very smart. And the accent is sexy as hell.
i lovee him! all of his tests are either take home or open book and he makes a subject as boring as religion somewhat enjoyable. such a cutie too, hott accent.
All of his exams are either take home or open book! There are 2 papers, and one of them is on a movie! Take him if you want a good grade in Rel 101! Great teacher, he knows his stuff!
The cutest teacher ever! His class can get a little boring because you take notes the whole time. But if you just take good notes and pay attention you will get an A. His exams are open note and on his review days tells you exactly what will be on them. His papers are pretty open ended allowing you to write about whatever. Take him for religion!
Watch out for this guy..Took him for CC104 thinking he would be good but he grades your papers worse than a academic writing professor. Good luck trying to get a good grade when you only have a 3 page and a 5 page paper to do in that class and a bunch of 3 quest quizzes. He must have forgotten this was a COMMON CORE class!!
Such a good professor! Definatley take him for intro to religion. Pay attention in class, he gives a lot of notes but hes pretty easy to follow. Some of the comments say his exams are open notes, but mine wasn't so study or you'll fail because theres a lot of material. Overall a pretty easy class. His accent is south african in case he asks! :)
Awful. Even if tests are open book he grades them ridiculously with no sort of rubric so it is impossible to understand your grade. He assigns a 10 page paper he calls ridiculous but yet grades it very hard. There is absolutely no reason for the grade I got and he didn't tell me why I got it. make sure to participate even what you say is stupid
best religion teacher I've ever had at SHU! a few books to read, in class movies, 2 colloquium papers a final 10 page paper about yourself. he is awesome and very understanding!! <3 his class
The information is pretty boring, but in all honesty its a common core class - get it done ! Prof.Kelly is a great guy - he is always their for help - shoot him an email he gets right back to you !!!!! Great guy, great personality - show respect in class take notes and your good to go !!!!!
Took him for a common core religion class, did good - Prof. Kelly is a great guy always their for help - show respect and it will be returned
i just finished taking professor kelly for religion 101 common core..he is a great teacher and tries to make the dry material as interesting as possible..take down every word he says and u will ace the test.. note taking is the key in this class. 2 tests midterm and final and an easy paper thats it! i will definitely be taking him again next sem!
Great professor, knows what he's talking about, but holds his standards kind of high for this class. Work hard and you will get the A.
This teacher is absolutely horrible. I took him for the the summer intersession religion 101. He gave way to much work. Every day you have to do a test, discussion board and comments and 2 150 word essays. If the essay is even short by 6 words, you get now higher then a 75. I will never take this teacher again. I strongly recommend another teacher.
Whatever you do don't take this class! His tests are way too difficult and he is extremely boring! I had a horrible experience with this class, and I do NOT recommend it at all!!
Gave way too much work for a winter session course. Within 10 days we had to read two books entirely, and comment on discussion board every day. The midterm and final are three essay questions, minimum 750 words EACH ESSAY. The hw was so hard to understand and he doesn't give out grades above a 90. Never again.
I took careful notes on the lectures, discussions, and reading assignments and did well. Three essay exams and one term paper. This is a common core course so you have to attend two colloquiums of your choice and write a reflective paper about it.
Took this class during Christmas break. He gave WAY TOO much work. We had to read 2 books entirely, post discussions, and the midterm & final were 3 essays, each 750 words MINIMUM.
Kelly is probably my favorite teacher on this campus. He gives a fair amount of work so I actually do it and he teaches in a way that makes me want to learn. He is more than happy to help you before or after class. Everyone should take his class. He really makes the material interesting
Worst professor ever. took his course for summer intersession, every day was 2 150 word essay questions, a discussion board post, and a 25 question test which you had to read an entire text chapter of about 40 pages for. EACH DAY for 11 days straight. And his test questions are random, confusing and not directly from the chapters.
Tough Grader. Exams consist of 2 essay questions, open notes. Posts the questions to blackboard a week before the exam. He read most of the books to us in class. Every once and a while he puts on a movie
Impossible to please on essays. Asks for 150 word responses but don't expect him to be happy with even 500 words. At times he leaves feedback on what he expects the essays to include, and his expectations do not match the questions he is acting. Don't take his class, its not worth the aggravation each day!
Professor Kelly is extremely knowledgable and very lecture prone. He will discuss topics found in the text, but push you further and ask that you develop ideas from the text in the format or philosophical theories. Not your typical Q&A/simple memorization kind of class. He is a great teacher, but do not take his class if you're expecting an easy A.
Professor Kelly is a gem. He was extremely fair with his work, and really enjoys conversation. The students were the leaders of the class, and led the discussions. He was an amazing professor who was always interesting to talk to. Take him if you can!
Took this online as a "Fall ahead" course. Very tough grader. Follow assignment objectives to the point. Need the book because essays each week come from the book. Boring concepts.
he was a good professor and guy. made class entertaining and easy to follow. the only problem I had with his class is he was prone to canceling class, and on the tests, he'd put questions on it he never taught due to the canceled classes. though he's a fair grader, even some of the most intelligent of people in his course would only get a B.
Professor Kelly is such an amazing professor! I looked forward to going to his class and he made class so much fun. He is a little bit of a tough grader but is willing to help you and go over things that you do not understand.
He wasn't a bad professor however he is a very difficult grader, you really have to know the material in order to get a good grade. You will be taking a lot of notes during lectures, he has a lot to say. He's good at explaining the material well and in detail so as long as you can study your notes you will be okay. He is a tough grader for sure.
Great professor and in both classes I've taken with him, the tests are open book and open notes. You really should go to class because whatever he puts on the test he probably said. If you write down what he says, you will get a good grade. Tough grader, but that's to be expected when the answers are right in front of you. Makes class interesting.
Professor Kelly is so nice and his class was always interesting. I had him for a Religion block which seemed like it would be miserable, but was actually very enjoyable. He is very laid back and funny, and is always trying to accommodate for his students in order for them to succeed. As long as you participate and do the readings, you'll be fine!!
Out of all my classes including extremely hard science courses I tried the most in this class and still received a below average grade for myself.
Prof Kelly is a good dude overall. Not the easiest but a genuinely nice guy who lectures very well, though he may take up the entire class time.
Do not take him! 2 exams one long and annoying paper. He is a very tough grader and makes it very hard to pass.
I liked his class, but it was impossible to get a good grade. The grade was calculated off of like 3 exams and one paper and that is it. There was little to no feedback and other than that the class was purely lectures with bare bones powerpoints. The only way to pass is to be present and listen really carefully because the exams are essay based.
Took him for Winter session. I suggest taking him during winter sessions cause it is 3 weeks and the workload is not heavy. Grading based on BB discussion 20% and Oral exam through Zoom 80%. I was scared at first but he gave exam questions a week before. If you read, engage in BB discussions & understand the reading, ur good. VERY NICE Professor!
Professor Kelly is a great lecturer and you will never be bored in his class. Even though it is very reading heavy, he makes the classes fun by the way that he speaks
This class is very lecture heavy and you really have to pay attention to the things he says because some of the test questions are pretty specific, but he is flexible and is willing to help so I would definitely take him again!
75% of people failed the 1st and 2nd exam. Final grade based on 3 exams and 1 paper. SUPER hard grader for literally no reason. Would write down word for word what he said and still couldn't pass exams to save my life. It was a shame because I actually liked the material too. Lectures the entire time, ended block class 1 hr early most days too.
Professor Kelly is extremely nice and wants his students to pass. However, he doesnt post anything on BB and everything on the tests will be from what he says in class. you need to pay attention and take notes or else you will not pass the exams. your whole grade is also the three exams and one paper. you dont have much room to fail
Professor Kelly's class relies heavily on lectures and the reading. The exams are open notes, and he provides the reading for this class, so you can save some money on books. I wouldn't consider it an easy A because you do have to work for it, but as long as you come to class and read the material, you should be fine for the exams.
I took prof Kelly's winter class and was overall pleased. Meeting's in person were optional. You do need to read the content but it's not extremely long. Homework was written discussions with guided questions but you can talk about other stuff if you want. The exam was a 1:1 oral exam but he's super easy to talk to and low pressure.
Professor Kelly was a very kind man and always made class entertaining. He does speak a lot and his power points are very brief so be prepared to just write as he talks. We have a 3 sentence discussion board every week and about 3 tests. If you do the extra credit at the end, you will pass with no problem. Pay close attention to things he repeats!
Tests were impossible. Don't get fooled by the fact that tests are online, none of the questions are even slightly googleable. Do yourself a favor and don't take him for history of Christianity!!! ruined my gpa.
The tests are impossible to pass even if you write down every single detail. The slides have no information just random words most of the time that he talks about so fast you cant write it down. He took my second test and made it my midterm grade but it wasn't even a midterm. I feel tricked most of the time. He is a nice guy but poor teacher.
really nice and funny guy but his test were extremely difficult. they were open-book but even having everything written down I still didn't do well. Ruined my GPA.
Avoid if you can. Funny guy and really understanding; however, his exams are impossible. They are online and open- note but its not even doable. He gave extra credit which was nice but did not really help my overall grade. Actually ruined my GPA.
Honestly a great guy, he's understanding and such a nice guy. very passionate about what he teaches. YES the tests are confusing, but they are online, it doesn't hurt to use the internet. My worst subject is religion, I used the internet (not knowing anything on the test) and got over 80's on both tests. Take him for the credit!!!!
Class is the same thing every time, he lectures and you have to take notes on everything he is saying if you want a good grade. Homework is just discussion board posts and readings but you can get away with not doing the reading. Exams are open note so no need to study. He is a little cranky if you don't participate which is annoying to deal with
Professor Kelly was not very organized, he missed class several times without any notice given to students. Once he walked into class just to tell us that class was cancelled. Not that hard of a class but its just not interesting material. 3 exams and discussion board homework.
Professor Kelly's class was easy if you pay attention. He grades on a few things, three exams which he is a harsh grader on, and classroom discussion boards, which you will almost always get a 5/5. It was an interesting course and his lectures were easy to follow.
Professor Kelly was a great professor and the work was not super difficult. We only had 3 big graded assignments which were tough but if you know the material you should be fine. Just take notes on the slides he gives because that material is important for all the tests that are taken
Prof Kelly is so nice and he tries to make jokes during his lectures. If you participate it makes the class go better and he cancels a lot so you usually get the day off. Only ended up with 2 exams and a final paragraph all were easy as well as discussion posts. Super genuine guy and would def take him again.
Such a nice guy w/ a passion for what he does! If you participate, it makes the class go by faster. He does a midterm and final paper. We just had three readings, so you need the books he lists, but he lets us have PDF versions of them. He is absent a lot, so that's a plus. Sometimes, he makes jokes during his lectures. Take him for an easy pass!
He's an amazing professor as long as you're invested in the class. He loves it when you participate and will allow you to use notes on tests as long as the whole class is participating. The whole class is basically lectures, but he is amazing at intriguing the class and getting people involves. Very easy course too.
pretty chill guy although cancels class without real reason when students are already in the room. we had to read three short books and only had a midterm, final and a 4-5 page paper which was the easiest thing to finish. easiest class i have taken at this school so far.
Nice guy. Only 1 discussion board a week, and they're super simple. 3 exams, which were all open notes, which was great. Don't skip class when there is an exam, or else you will get a written assignment. Lectures for about an hour, never stayed the whole class. super simple class and nice prof. dont even have to take notes honestly
Three open book tests. Lectures for an hour, but they are clear and you should not get lost. Find someone with good notes, no need to study with the notes in front of you. Nice guy overall.
GREAT professor, super kind and understandable. Graded by two essays and two test but were super manageable. Makes lectures interesting and easy to take notes from.
Dr. Kelly's possesses an incredible ability to zip-file and un-zip his brain to give amazing lectures. To REALLY listen to him is to watch history unfold before your eyes. Unfortunately, he regularly cancels class or arrives late. There's no required reading. Exams are simple and open-note IF YOU'RE NICE AND THE CLASS PARTICIPATES. Pay attention.
I went to every class and wrote down everything he said. The tests made no sense. He talks so fast and has no slides. He doesn't give any extra credit. I would never take him again.
Professor Kelly is such a sweetheart. His class is very lecture-heavy and boring, but as long as you take notes, you will be fine on the exams, as they are all open books as long as you cooperate with him in class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you will be very lost if you miss class.
All classes were great, attendance is not mandatory, would always respond to emails, and class was very interactive.
Dr. Kelly made this course really doable and engaging. Online class is easy to get an A in.
Prof. Kelly was by far my favorite professor my first semester. As long as you're a good note taker, you should be all set for the exams, which are open note. I will say his exams are a little funky, but passable. On top of that, he's a really caring and positive guy. Usually lets class out early. I definitely plan to take another course of his.
Loved this class! As long as you take good notes and don't miss class, you'll pass easily. He always finishes within an hour and is really interesting. The tests are worth a lot but are open-note, so as long as you take notes, you're good. There's 1 short discussion post each week. The tests can be confusing, but I've never gotten less than an 88.
I loved him! He was so funny! Cancelled class frequently. One discussion post a week with only a few exams that were open note. He cared about his students and loved those who participated. He is very easygoing and is not a harsh grader. If you pay attention, take good notes, and show up, you will be fine! He is a great professor!
The nicest man ever. As long as you do the discussion posts he will give you credit. Tests are open notes and he gives you extra credit on the test. He makes class super fun and interesting!
Fairly easy class, attendance isn't graded but if you miss class you miss out on the notes you need for the exam. The exams are all open note, but the material he posts on blackboard is only a fraction of the material he actually lectures. During class you have to take notes on what he is lecturing off the top of his head to do well on exams
Absolutely love Dr. Kelly. A really kind, easygoing guy and his class is so straightforward. Exams are open note and completely passable. Attendance isn't part of your grade, but in order to take notes you need to go to class. The people that leave bad reviews are likely the ones that skip often. If you take his class, make sure you participate!
Great professor considering the class is very boring. Made the classes engaging even though attendance wasn't mandatory. 1 assigment a week that takes maybe 3 minutes to do and 4 tests that aren't too bad and you can probably cheat on.
Christopher Kelly is a really good professor. He is exciting to listen to and easy to talk to. The course does require you to attend class but if you attend and take notes it's an easy A
I loved having this prof! attendance was not required but all tests were open note so you had to go to class if you wanted to have notes. He talked very fast so staying focused was hard but he made the material very interesting. But, the exams were hard even with the notes but they mostly all true/false questions. He offered a lot of extra credit.
One of the best professors I had at shu. Caring, considerate, and wants his students to succeed. He talks a lot during lecture doesn't have slides but the topics are never hard. Learned a lot about Christianity and I enjoyed it. The discussion posts are easy grades them off of completing them on time. 4 exams multiple choice no cumulative final.
Very nice guy and his lectures are easy to follow, however his exams are pretty hard despite being open note. Only graded on exams and discussion questions. Offered extra credit and want you to do well. Lectures are again easy to follow and sometimes he lets you out early. Just study for the exams!
Fun professor for a rather boring subject and helped engage as much as possible. Exams are open note but they are difficult and tricky so just make sure you still pay attention and take good notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but it will help with notes and you may even get extra credit for showing up.
Kelly was so amazing. I was worried that the course would be difficult based on the syllabus and rumors but he is so passionate about what he teaches. Be ready to read because he expects a lot of profound ideas along with participation. He didn't take attendance but I recommend going to class as often as possible since it is very lecture heavy!
The course itself is not terrible, yet he reads off of slides every class and will talk for 45 minutes about the criteria and is very hard to take notes off of. The tests are in class but open notes He gave us a review guide for one of them and put things on it we either never talked about in class or was not on the exam.
He's okay, but lectures move fast and are hard to take notes on. He often goes off the slides, making it tricky to follow. He's slow to reply to emails. Grades are based on weekly discussion posts and exams, but tests may include material not covered in class. Open-note, yet still tough.
Only lectures, does review for tests but the tests can be difficult.
He teaches off of lectures. He does a really good job of explaining things simply and will always go over something if you dont understand it. If you participate and actually listen to what he says, you'll get a good grade. He sometimes lets you use your notes for tests so, again, if you listen to him and dont just copy the slides you'll do fine
Prof. Kelly is a super kind man who clearly knows what he's talking about. He uses and posts powerpoints, but they are super vague and all the real material comes from his lectures. There are only 3 exams but they are open note and if you study AND bring your notes, you will pass. Taking him next semester!
Class is lecture heavy, so you need to pay attention and take good notes (Although it gets boring). Shares the slides and key terms that you need study which is helpful. Weekly discussions that are easy. Can use all your notes during the 2 tests and final exam. Was very understandable and ethical about my sudden absence. Overall great professor.
Love love love Professor Kelly. Always a lecture and a weekly discussion board summary. 3 exams that he prepares you very well for. I thought his lectures were interesting, but if you find religion/philosophy boring, I could see not liking it as much. Take good notes, and you'll be fine. Overall an easy class and very kind instructor.
Really enjoyed his class, very insightful professor.
