Chris Kramers Phil 100 class gave me life. He is an amazing teacher and anyone is blessed to have him. He is really big on incorporating comedy into philosophy, which makes for the best lectures. I think he is a genius, one of the smartest people I have met. I'm taking his other class he teaches next semester simply because he is teaching it.
Professor Kramer is probably my favorite professor of all time. He's cool, kind, understanding, accommodating, funny, and plain entertaining. He's also young so much of what he says is relevant and current for us. Be ready for 2 or 3 quizzes a week. He doesn't make you write papers because it would be too much grading for him. He's also super hot.
Funny guy and good teacher. The class is easy if you naturally get philosophy but the lectures can be boring because he does not engage the class into debates regarding the material which is usually the most effective way to learn philosophical content. Overall he is a good teacher when it comes to displaying the criteria for his class.
Engaging conversations during lectures. Approachable and hilarious. Dont be afraid to speak your mind or make mistakes because he will walk you to the right answer! Cant recommend highly enough.
He made philosophy fun. He includes cat pictures, his kids, and many many puns in his presentations. He gives a quiz every week.
Professor Kramer is really funny. He always tries to joke during his lectures, mostly successfully. Lots of reading, but if you keep up with the readings and go to lectures it will all make sense. Good study-guides and tests, if you want to pass you have to keep up with the syllabus! I definitively recommend!
Amazing professor who has very funny and inspirational lectures. Be sure to keep up with the readings!
Prof. Kramer is hilarious! He knows a lot about the subject and tries his best to help you succeed in the class. There's a lot of reading, but he always goes through the readings in class to clarify everything. Weekly quizzes in class or online, if you pay attention in class and take notes you will pass. I would definitely take his class again.
Chris is awesome! He really cares about what he teaches and clearly knows what he is talking about. He is also super funny, and uses humor to teach philosophy. Most weeks there are quizzes (in class and online), and he expects you to read the assigned sections before you get to class.
Such a cool person and really interesting lectures
Kramer is the best. Take honors and listen to/ask questions in the lectures.
Kramer is an awesome professor!! Extremely passionate about his profession and it shows in his lectures. He uses humor to keep lecture interesting. Participation wasn't a huge part of the grade but it's easy points!! Just show up and you won't struggle to pass online and in class quizzes(: I didn't buy the book but I took great notes during class.
Kramer was my favorite professor. Lectures pretty much every class but they are super funny and not boring at all. He's always telling jokes and making class fun. There are online quizzes or in class group quizzes once a week that aren't hard if you pay attention during lecture. Tests are easy if you study and he also gives helpful study guides
Professor Kramer is an excellent teacher. His class is fun and engaging. His grading is clear and objective. Taking more of his courses will help me to improve my vocabulary and writing skills. I am looking forward to the challenge.
His class has made me change my major to Philosophy
Professor Kramer is one of the best professors I have ever had. I entered this class having little interest in Philosophy and have left it with a legitimate passion for the subject. Do the work assigned and you will get an A, but show up to class or you get half credit on the homework. Also study for the Exams. Hilarious and amazing professor.
Good class
Kramer is an amazing professor. He's a truly compassionate guy and wants you to succeed in his class. He's a very funny guy as well and uses his humor to make his lectures engaging and enjoyable. A class I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did, highly recommend Kramer.
Professor Kramer is one of the best professors I ever had. He is super funny and understanding. His audio lectures are also so funny. Just make sure to do your readings, take notes, and listen to his lectures. I highly recommend him.
Loved this professor. Knew nothing about the class I was signing up for, but the professor made learning and succeeding in his class very manageable. Make friends in the class so you can go through the study guides together and the work load isn't too much for yourself. I was always excited for his class, he is very easy to listen to.
super great professor! he makes his lectures interesting and is always open to discussion. his sense of humor makes the class even better too. attendance only matters on certain days and homework is really light. we had 3 papers and all of them had clear criteria and were enjoyable to write! definitely recommend taking any class you can with him!!!
AVOID THIS TEACHER!!! It is not worth it!! Take any other teacher for philosophy, seriously! I took 5 classes this semester and this was my most dense, lecture heavy, most homework class and it was absolutely worthless. Due dates are the shortest out of any class Ive ever taken and he is not willing to help out his students even a little
If there was one class in all of experience at sbcc I wish I avoided, this was it! A terrible teacher who doesnt care about or try to help his students at all! Every way this class is set up is to hurt and be an obstacle for the student, even his slideshows for the lectures have absolutely zero useful information and expects u 2hear it all inclass
Dont take him unless you're able & willing to easily skim through a LOT of req. reading so that you can bs the assignments for credit, not for knowledge. The best way to pass his class is to have the ppt slides already and listen bc the slides don't help at all. Even though he welcomes questions he rarely answers w/ info that'll help you on tests.
Professor Kramer is THE BEST professor I've ever. This course opened my eyes to a lot of stuff in life. Easy pass if you actually do the work!(which is not much ) I do not regret taking this class over english 111.
I took his class last spring and it started out well. He would not allow me any type of extension or make up work when I emailed him even though I had extenuating circumstances. I even went to his office hours but no help, and he was rude. His lectures are mostly just him making lame jokes and trying to be stand up comedian.
The most enjoyable class I have taken at city college. Prof Kramer is smart, hilarious, personable, and fair. Lectures are engaging and entertaining. Weekly readings and simple writing responses. Was sad when the class ended. Seriously debating taking another one of his classes not for credit, just because I enjoy him as a professor so much.
Prof kramer is an excellent and caringteacher. There were at least three different times when I needed an extension on an assignment and he (unlike many) worked with me to make sure I got it done without adding stress to my already stressful life. It was sometimes difficult material, but I learned a lot. Definitely recommend
This was a hard class but extremely interesting. I was not at all expecting to get so much out of a phil class, but Kramer made the class exciting, enlightening, and fun. Everyone's questions in class were taken seriosuly and he did his best to respect students' viewpoints, especially related to tough issues like suicide--Camus was tough!
BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER! I have taken every class he teaches at SBCC--100, 111, 203 and plan on taking 206 next sem. I wish he taught more classes
this was the first philosophy class I had ever taken--totally diff than highschool, and in a good way. This class makes you think in a way that is totally different than my other classes. I am seriously thinking of becoming a phil major. Highly recommend this class.
Loved the class right from the start. Lots of humor and even philosophy of humor, which I didn't even know was a thing. Awesome! And if you need help understanding something (the readings can be a bit hard) he will always help put without making you look foolish. Definitley going to take him again
Excellent class. It is a writing class, but there are only three major papers and they are not very long--he grades the logic/argumentation of it not much worried about grammar and such. Quizzes, but easy if you take notes--he has the powerpoints online. One final exam, but allows notecard with notes. The class is fair and fun.
Great class--mostly lecture although there was group discussion on the readings almost everyclass. Kramer knows what he is talking about and presents it in a way that makes sense, even if reading the primary texts did not. If you show up and take notes you will do fine.
This class is perfect for the political times right now--addresses conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, political fallacies, moral reasoning and lots of other stuff. It seems like there is a lot of work, but in the end it was not that much, and he is a very fair grader.
Great class. Great prof. Take it, you will not be disappointed.
Contemporary phil can be difficult, but Kramer made it clear, interesting, and actually enjoyable. The class is mostly lectures, but there is also lots of group discussions which is needed for such as class. It is a 200 level class, but if you show up, read, and take notes you will do fine
Best teacher I have had--and I have taken A LOT of classes and attended more than one college! Sometimes the class gets a bit political, but he handles it great. I still have no idea what his particular politicla views actually are. He can explain arguments clearly from just about any view, and not make you seem dumb if you make a logical error
This is a great intro philosophy class. Chris is funny, engaging, relatable (when he isn't telling Chuck Norris jokes or using the word "crunk"). Lots of low-stakes quizzes and easy reading reflections to fluff up your grade, three big tests, but no cumulative final, and the study guides and glossary give you everything you need to pass the tests.
If you are interested in the important questions about life, take this class. If you make it to class and take notes and use his slides online, you can do well. Fantastic class.
Kramer does spend a lot of time lecturing, but they are excellent. I was not bored once, and looked forward to coming to each class. He knows what he is talking about and has published work in a lot of tthe areas we discuss in class. take notes and ask questions in class it will help a lot.
I took ENg 111 for about a week, dropped it and added to kramer's Philosophy 111 class--meets same requirements. I am so glad I did. This was one of my favorite classes. It is a writing course, but he makes it interesting and fun and I felt like I can use what I learned there in all other classes. Also, pretty good for arguing with friends!
So this is the best class I have ever taken! I was not quite sure what the philosophy of religion was going to be like, but this is incredibly interesting, enlightning, and actually fun. Look forward to every class.
TAKE THIS CLASS! If you show up, follow his instructions on preparing for exams, do the quizzes and reflection writings (these are easy points and help with the material), you will pass the class. I learned a lot and am taking another of Kramer's classes. So far, awsome!
This was an in person class--and it was excellent. Lectures were fun and interesting. Now with the virus crap, its all online. But Kramer has made that chenge really smoothe--it is still one of my favorite classes. Totally recommend Kramer for any class
Chris Kramer is an amazing teacher. I took his Phil 100 last semester and I'm taking his philosophy of religion class right now. Both were super interesting and his lectures are captivating, also have a lot of humor. I hope I get to take one of his classes again, as they really push me to think and reflect on a lot of important things.
Professor Kramer was great! I'd recommend him even if your major is unrelated. His lectures were perfectly comprehensible even in the most abstract parts of the class and he made them interesting and enjoyable.
He is alright. He gives a lot of homework for just a "fun class" He makes a lot of jokes during lecture. I didn't find most of them funny. I think I would have liked this class if I was interested in it.
I took his online critical thinking class. He lays out the canvas page well and I was easily able to download his lectures and listen to them on my morning runs. You have to write a few essays and take some tests, but it was a very simple thing to accomplish. Easy A for anyone who likes to write and think about philosophy.
Great class! Even all online I actually looked forward to listening to the lectures. The canvas page is very well put together and easy to follow. He responds almost immediately to any question, and helps make sense of sometimes difficult material. I cant wait to take his 203 contemporary phil next semester.
I hate online classes. But this prof made it easy and I actually enjoyed listening to the lectures. They mist have been recorded form the last semester, so its just like a normal class. Eevrything you need to do well is very clearly outlined, and organized. Some of the reading is pretty hard, but really interesting, and if you stay on track, easy A
TAKE THIS CLASS! very interesting and soooo relevant to so many things happening now. Kramer does a great job keeping the class interesting and enjoyable. I actually looked forward to listing to the lecturws. Would take any class he teaches.
I have taken a lot of online classes and this was the best by far. It is clear what you need to do, when you need to do it, and how to do it well. Also lectures are very useful and hilarious. Cant recommend enough. Looking forward to more of kramers classes
Great class. Take anything from Kramer.
Kramer has the best lectures ever! I have already taken his other classes, and and just finished Intro 100 over the summer. It was only like six weeks, so a lot coming at you in short time, but he made the class very easy to follow, and don't have scheduled times you have to meet. Cannot wait to take the Contemporary .
I was in eng111 and hated it. Someone told me to take his PHIL111 class, they fulfill same requirements, and I am soooo glad I did. It is writing of course, but not like I have done before. Very helpful in thinking through arguments. I have used stuff from this class in ALL my other ones. Great class
I cannot say enough good things about this class and the prof. This is probably my 80th college course (i have been going to school on an off for a while now) and it was the BEST I have ever taken--at any college OR University. I am definitly enrolling in his next class--contemporary phil. and whatever else he might teach.
Kramers classes are the best. I took 203 last year and 206 last semester, and did 111 for the first summer session. I wish he taught more classes. The material can be hard and some of the readings are from like 2 thousand yts ago, but he makes it fun an interesting.
Taking Kramers critical thinking and writing in philosophy right now. Awesome class. He is very clear and wants you to do well in the class--seriously. Answers quesrtions immediately and makes sure you know what to do to get the grade you want. So far a great class. Thinking of changing my major to philosophy! Oh and the lectures are hilarious and
I LOVE this class. He has recorded lecutres for the online version of the class which gives a good sense of how it is in person--i wish I could take the class in person, but covid! The lectures are very funny and eye opening.
If you like philosophy you will loooove this class. If you do not like philosophy, you will after taking this class. If you are not sure what phil is or whether you will like it, take this class--and you will know and like philosophy!
SUCH a good class. I was not sure at first because I hate online classes, but kramer made it actually enjoyable. I am able to take stuff from this class and use it in my other writing classes. Also when debating my wife! Ha. But i'm serious. He will teach you how to make great arguments
Best lectures I ever had to sit through. I actually enjoyed them, and i hate lectures. The class connects with current events so well, I had no idea philosophy was like this. Very useful engaging and all around awsome class.
This was one of my favorite classes. I was pretty confident I would like it because I took Contemporary with him last time--awesome class. He helps you out so much and was very forgiving of late assignments. A huge benefit given this covid crap! Take any class by kramer!
Even though this was not supposed to be an all online class, Kramer made it great. I learned a lot and actually lookd forward to listening to his lectures. You did not have to schedule a time to zoom or whatever, he had them recorded. Study guides for tests and a glossary--he made it easy to get a good grade. One of my favorite profs
Kramer is phenomenal. I was worried about motivating myself to listen to an hour of lecture daily. Fear not: he is among the most engaging, funny, and intelligent teachers I've ever had. On just a voice recording! There are three major papers but he prepares you for them, and he's forgiving of late work. Wish I could take another class with him.
Take any class from Kramer! I think I have taken all he has offred so far. Loved every one of them. Best lectures--you learn something and you want to keep listening. Online usually sucks, but he made this summer semester enjoyable.
Suuuch an interesting class. Some of the stuff is hard to understand but Kramer explains it clearly and immediately if you have any quesitons or concerns. He will work with you to do well. Best class I have taken so far
This is the best online class I have ever taken--and i think it is the first time he has taught all online. I can't wait to take his phil of religion class next time--hopefully in person. TAKE ANY CLASS FROM KRAME!
This is a great class. It is so engaging even though the lectures are recorded from a prior semester (so some outdated references) it gives you the sense of what it is like to be in the classroom. He also has zoom review sessions 9not mandatory) that are recorded to connect to today and he grades via recorded video so very personable and helpful
This was the best class I have ever taken--and it was all online. Prof kramer is interested in you doing well and gives great video comments on individual assignments to make it personable and very helpful. I would take any class from him.
Just finished my first ever fully online semester. It suuuuuucked! Except for kramer's Intro to philosophy class. I really did look forward to listening to the lectures--every time. It was a timy oasis in the middle of a crappy 6months. If you are looking for a class, take anything from prof Kramer. You will not be disappointed
So glad I took this class. It covers the same requirements as english 111 but way better. I took (or tried to) eng 111 and dropped it last semester. Kramers class is awesome. Learned a lot and use it all the time. take this class!!
I took Honors Phil 100 this fall and loved it! You have to do a bit of reading to answer the weekly discussion posts but they're honestly really easy, and even though some of the readings are really long you can normally skim them well enough to do the work. Make sure you go to the zooms for easy points, also, he doesn't use proctorio!
So this was the best class ever! He started out basically all asynchronous but then had a few more zoom sessions toward second half of the semester--not mandatory and he would record them and post them. The readings were pretty hard but you have essay exam questions in adbvance to work on for the exams. Just do the readings and listen to the lectur
This is philosophy BUT you can get an easy A. Just listen to the lectures (there hilarious and interesting) and review the study guides. Quizzes are mostly multiple choice but he gives two attempts--just don't forget to take them.
Contemporary philosophy can be really hard, especially the analytic dudes, but Kramer made the class both fun and extremely interesting. All short answer quizzes, two exams and a paper. He had zoom review sessions tests and was really thorough. Also discussion boards, but graded very easy. Definitely take this class, especially if a phil major
You can get an A in this class even if you start out not so well. He will work with you to move your grade up. 3 exams but you have study guides for each. Quizzes can be hard but just listen to the lectures (they are quite funny and smart). highly recommend Kramer
Professor Kramer saved my semester. I changed my major to philosophy after the third or fourth week of taking his Contemporary phil class. Some hard reading, but so interesting and connected to everyday life--taking ALL of his classes!
I am already in to thinking about religious ideas so this phil of religion class is already interesting. But it is all online due to covid, so that part could be better. It is still the best class I have taken so far at sbcc. I actually want to listen to the lectures!
Ive taken both PHIL111 and PHIL203 with Kramer & loved both of them - Kramer is a great professor - the way he sets up the progression of the material is masterful - rlly good balance of explanation while encouraging further personal engagement Kramer is funny, supportive (soft grader) and gives helpful feedback - overall, great guy and class!
I think I have taken all the classes Kramer teaches--I wish he taught more. The lectures are fantastic, interesting, funny, enlightening. Some of the readings are ridiculously hard, but listen to thr lectures, he makes sense of them. take whatever he's teaching
Best class I have taken. Im new to college but i am so glad i started with this class. So interesting and he helps you out a lot. If you have late work he is so understanding. take this class!
My first semester in college during COVID--luckily kramers philosophy of religion class is awesome! So glad I am taking it. The readings can be hard (really hard sometimes) but his lectures are amazing and clears up a lot of the confusion. taking anything else he teaches.
I have taken every class from Kramer, and I have loved every one of them (he does not teach 101 so not sure what that bad eval was all about). This has been the most stressful time ever, and he helped out so much with assignments and due dates and just making sense of it all. Take any class from him, you will not be disappointed
I just became a phil major! This class is so relevant and interesting and useful. I cannot wait to take kramers other classes. I wish he taught more. This is a writing class but way better than the Eng equivelent class. You actually learn how to argue well here
This class is HAAArd, but I really like it. I have thought a lot about the stuff in the class before hand, but had no idea there was even a subject called philosophy of religion. The readings are really tough but also really interesting. Prof kramer helps explain it very well and as hard as the material is he is very fair with grades
I am so glad I am taking this course. Kramer is extremely helpful and really wants you to do well. He explains where you need to fix things in your writing and arguments to make sense of what you are trying to say and believe. Really a helpful class for prepping for other class, and life in general. Definately taking another class from him
Definitely take this class. Waaaay better then the Eng 111. Trust me. There are papers--its a writing class, but it is in philosophy and you learn sooo much about how to win arguments (but dont tell him thats why you are there! Awesome class. Quizzes are easy if you take notes and only one exam the final.
10/10 Prof. Kramer is really passionate about the subject! I took this class online and it was asynchronous, no textbook, and the workload was totally do-able. I thought I was gonna hate it and it would be boring but I ended up loving it and taking another one of his classes. The quizzes are based directly off the lectures so just take notes easy
I hate writing and I had no idea what philosophy was--though I had heard of critical thinking of course. This class was the best- I cant say I like writing now, but Kramer sure helped make me a better writer and very interested in philosophy now. Hes funny and the class is very clear and well organized. He will work with you to get an A.
Great class. Everything is clearly spelled out, you know exactly what you need to do to get an A (or A-!) it was all online and he used recorded lectures from an earlier semester, so some of the references were a bit dated--but they were hilarious. He had some non mandatory zoom meetings to make it more up to date. wish it were an inperson class
I dropped my eng111 class because it suuuuuucked. This philsophy class counts as the same for credits and a friend suggested Kramer. Such a great choice! He helps soo much and makes things very clear for you. If you are not getting like a B, he will email you and try to work with you. Very helpful. Plus the class is super interesting
I had no idea philosophy would be this difficult and at same time this interesting. Very glad I took this class. The readings are hard at times but Kramer's recorded lectures make them very clear. you know what you need to do to get a good grade, and he lets you know if you are not on track--very helpful nice and funny.
Great class. Great Prof. Take the class but make sure to focus on the lectures--they are funny but a few dated references. This class will make to excel at arguing about anything!
Take any class from Kramer. This is the 3rd I have taken and I am so glad he is teaching 111. I have heard nightmares about the ENG 111 class, and that Kramers' is sooo much better. It is a writing class, but he makes it fun and interesting and you really do learn how to argue well
This was a great class and Kramer is a great teacher. I cannot wait to take a class with him in person in the fall after this covid scourge is over. Highly recommend Dr Kramer for any class.
BEST CLASS EVER! The readings can sometimes be confusing but they are all very interesting. The lectures are funny as Fu.... I cannot wait to take a class in person with Kramer in fall. Highly recommend his classes
Professor Kramer is truly a great professor and is clear that he cares for his students. He is always posting announcements and through canvas emails about what is due which is really nice for some students who forget. However, he makes you read a ton and listen to 1hr video lectures. Maybe because I took it in summer, but there was a lot of work.
There are three papers that are fun to write. The final affects your grade a lot. You just have to read the slides and understand them well to do well on quizzes. Discussions were loosely based on the readings, but I never read anything since the slides were good enough so don't get the textbook. Late work is accepted. Prepare to make lots of SLFs.
I agree with the person who said the writing assignments were actually fun to do. I was very surprised about that. Prof Kramer makes you want to listen to the lectures and argue well--I really do think I ma way better at making arguments now and so glad I took this class.
Loved this class. Just wish it was in person. Lectures could be long but very funny and really easy to listen to. PowerPoint slides made the class easier. Also late work allowed without point loss.
Great professor! Chris really cares about his students succeeding although some of the material can be kind of tricky! Would definitely take another class from him as I had a great experience as a first time student in his class.
I am a Phil major so already interested in this subject. I was blown away by the class. No textbook all readings free in pdf. He made great selections I think even though some were tough to understand. Lectures were recorded from another in class semester so you get the feel of the class. highly recommend even if not a Phil major.
You can tell Professor Kramer is passionate about Philosophy and about teaching. His energy is a breath of fresh air and he gives great feedback when grading assignments. I have to admit I am not a big fan of Philosophy but Professor Kramer made the class enjoyable.
Chris Kramer is fun and funny. I felt more supported by him in an online class than by some of my in-person professors. He always sends little canvas reminders about due dates. Everything you need for the exams is in the lecture and powerpoints, which he posts. I enjoyed all the readings. I switched my major to philosophy after this class.
So awesome! I loved how prof K gave online comments using video--or what he says is 'feedforward" Very helpful, lets you turn in late work without ruining your grade, and generally a great teacher. Take any class from Kramer!
The readings in Contemporary philosophy can be hard but very interesting. Kramer is great at explaining difficult material in a fun interesting way. I cannot wait to take the phil of Religion class--he markets that one pretty hard! But so do other students. I think any class with him would be great
Hands down my favorite professor Ive had in my full two years at SBCC. Not one time have I sat through one of his lectures without laughing. He relates to his students through hilarious PowerPoints and engaging lectures. The homework is not excessive whatsoever and ends up being helpful in the next class. This dude deserves a beer and a pay raise.
Per week: A few readings, lectures, and 2 assignments (discussion posts and/or quiz). Lectures were like comedy shows! Prof is super funny and insightful. Exams are multiple-choice w 2 short essays that are fun to write. Justify your reasoning and you'll do well. Prof isn't a tough grader and is very understanding and reasonable. Take his class!
Contemporary phil is sooo interesting. SOmetimes the readings can be hard but listen to the lectures and follow along with the power point slides and even has a glossary just for this class that is helpful and amusing. Take this class--or any one from him--looking forward to the phil of Religion next time
Chris is a great professor. His classes are entertaining because of how he uses humor and memes in his slides. I enjoyed the classes, but I figured out throughout the semester that I did not enjoy working with Philosophy in general. That is why I don't would take this class again. If you like philosophy, Chris is the man.
Took class over summer. Long but entertaining lectures. Pay attention to what prof says about the different readings, will be helpful on the exams. Prof had a great sense of humor. Very understanding, and allows students to turn in work late. The material covered is very interesting. Work is pretty easy to complete. Prof is an easy grader.
Take any class from Kramer. Even if its a math class! kidding a little there. If a phil major than this is a must class. even if not a phil major, you should take it. Very understanding and allows late work without ruining your grade. Also very interesting readings
Awesome professor who offers interesting perspectives from a variety of authors. Wants to hear your thoughts more than anything, along with how you perceived the readings. The quizzes are easy, just use the table of contents he gives, and encourages you to use, it has all the answers. The final paper is a bit daunting so be thinking about it early!
I don't like sitting thorugh lectures, but prof Kramers' are excellent. I actually looked forward to listening to them each week. That makes the class worth it. If you fall behind he will help you out without taking off so many points that you cannot do well--I got really behind but still ended with an A--this would not have happened in other clas
Tougher class than I thought it would be, but the lectures are really good. You should take this class. Some of the readings are difficult but he explains them well. Also follwo along with the power points and notes--most of exam material from that. somewhat easy A
Best prof at the college! And this is one of the best ccs in the country.
I totally agree with those others who took this philosophy 111 instead of Eng 111--I took the english class, dropped it almost immediately, and signed up for kramers class. Best decision. So many interesting and relevant readings. His assignments are clear and he is sooo helpful. If you want an A you can get it and he will help you.
Kramer was awesome. Took his class online. There's a weekly discussion post that you talk about the week's work in and what you found interesting about it. Cool material, his online pre-recorded lectures were great. Had a quiz almost every week but weren't difficult, just need to know the material. Would definitely take a class from him again!
Best class at SBcc so far, without question. It is a writing class but writing in philosophy is not what you think. The readings were all super interesting (except for one that was a bit hard but he spent a lot of time explaining for us). You can get an A in this class if I did! I actually like writing about philosophy now.
Great class. There is a lot of writing assignments but hey its a writing class! They are short and interesting topics. You get used to how the class is set up really early and it is easy to get in a groove. Pretty easy A but you have to do the work. Kramer accepts late work without taking points off! Only prof I know who does that.
Of all my profs this semester, Kramer was the MOST helpful. Always available to make sense of the readings and lecturs, and allows for late work without ruining grade. No other prof did that for me, , and this was a horrible year for me. Best teacher at sbcc by far. Also interesting class!
Best class available! Not much more to say. I have taken many classes here and at other ccs. No doubt--kramer is the best prof you will find. Take ANY class from hi. Seriously
There is a lot of writing in this class but definitely manageable. Kramer is very helpful and will work with you to get an A--totally agree with the other reviews about late work with no points lost and him making sure you gt where you need to be in the class. Pretty easy A and a fun class that helped with my other classes
Best prof ever! Take any class from Dr. Kramer. I think I have taken all he teaches at sb. Loved all of them and they are super helpful in all my other classes. Hilarious and accessible pretty much whenever. always looking out to help you do well. I changed my major to philosophy from taking his classes
Great class and even better professor. There are discussions for most of the readings, but they are brief and contain little arguments--which you will learn how to write and do it well. Extremely helpful not at all throw away busy work. Those prep you for the 3 bigger writing papers. also, no docked points if papers are late
This was an extremely interesting class. I always think of philosophy as done by ancient greek dudes that had nothing to do with today. Contemporary phil is relevant and interesting and Kramer makes it fun. Weekly discussions, short quizzes two tests and a paper. very fair grader too
This is a writing class but they are short assignments. Mostly just how to make an argument (and its not like a war! he makes that very clear). It was this or Eng 111 and I was told phil 111 with Kramer is way better by so many people. They were all right. great class, he is very clear and helpful and the readings were super interesting
You will want to be a philosophy major after this class! Highly recommend it. Quizzes and discussions, fairly easy and he gives great feedback so you know what to expect, two tests and a short paper. Readings can be intense but very interesting. I wish he taught more classes here
Super nice guy with great ideas. All around great teacher and super intelligent.
This was a bit hard for me, but professor Kramer was very helpful--SOOO knowledgeable about the topics we covered, which were vast! Very interesting and useful class and great prof. Take his class even if you don't need it!! But Phil 111 is probably needed for a lot
All open notes quizzes and assignments, pretty easy if you follow his format on canvas. If you get stuck on anything he will help you. Drops lowest scores, gives extra time for writing assignments, and really does give great comments on work that helps going forward. great class and teacher.
His class is lecture heavy, with so many quizzes and discussions. Keep up the coursework, and you'll be fine. It's a bit of a boring class and confusing. No textbooks, but reading heavy. They talks a bit about rate my professor, goes on tangents, and don't have a clear build-up of information. His lectures barely give insight beyond quiz questions
lectures are recorded and posted on youtube through canvas so you can listen to them whenever and whatever speed you want. They are funny and enlightning. Great class with some low point assignments that help for eh big ones, and his comments on them makes the larger assignments so much easier--but you have to read or listen to his video comments
Kramer wants you to do well. All you have to do is take good notes on the lectures, do the discussions and quizzes (allows late work with no penalties) and you can get an A even though its a 200 lev class. Also really interesting and relevant recent readings. Definitely worth it
Loved this class! Kramer is like a standup comedian that knows his stuff. You get a lot out of the class and not hard to get an A even though some of the readings can be hard. Take any class with him
Changed from Eng 111 to Kramer's phil 111--best decision of the summer for me! The class was actually interesting and the writing assignemtns are set up to not be horrible. I got a lot out of the class and plan on taking more from him. be sure to actually listen to the lectures thats where all the info is for quizzes
Excellent class! I said it was hard, well somewhat hard, only because some of the readings were difficult. Listen to the lectures FIRST, the texts make so much more sense then. A number of discussions and pretty easy quizzes--study those to prep for exams (2) and one short paper on whatever you want. I have taken all Kramer's classes. All are great
If you care about the subject, it might be interesting but I don't so it was boring but definitely an easy A, so I recommend taking it. He definitely cares about Phil & makes jokes during the lectures. Reading is also pretty boring, but it helps a bit for the weekly quizzes. You can prep for the exams & final with the study guide he gives!
He really knows his stuff and the material is interesting, but there is too much to really take it all in and learn. You move from topic to topic too quickly to really think about the material, which is too bad because a deeper dive on fewer topics would be more useful. Audio recordings are from past classes and can be hard to follow, but lively.
He is the most organized, sweet and amazing professor! He has taught this class many times and is super organized. There are readings every week with a short discussion post, which you have to be in class to discussed to get full credit but he's an easy grader. His powerpoint are all funny and easy to follow, but a class you need to be present for.
Professor Kramer is an amazing professor and is super passionate about his work. His lectures are super fun and engaging. The work is very manageable, but forces you to really think critically. Be sure to actually read the required essays, complete work on time, and attend lectures. If you do that, you will do great in the class!
Gutted! I tried so hard and dropped another class to focus on this one, and it was so hard with little instruction or support. Too much material to digest, just thrown at you with no opportunity to talk about it. We had a quiz ON Thanksgiving! Plus 3 papers and 2 big exams. Too much busy work and little actual learning. Tough grader too. Sad I took
Great class.
I loved this class. He was very accessible, not sure what that other reviewer meant. Was a quiz he accidentally assigned on Tgiving, but then changed due date. Only one exam and 2 papers. and he allowed late work without penalties
Fun, knowledgeable professor who's lectures are engaging and easy to digest. The workload is not too much with the exams all being online asynchronous as well as the final. One to two discussion posts per week along with 5-20 page readings. Exams are not too difficult as long as you have taken good notes in class and listened during lectures.
Most useful class I ever took. Very helpful with late stuff and makes video comments on assignments. Fun lectures and actually interesting. definitely should take this class
Prf Kramer is awesome! The readings were sometimes tough but lectures made things very clear. He knows his stuff and is fun to listen to. Short discussions an short answer quizzes--pretty easy if you pay attention. There is a mid term and final and a short paper at the end. But he grades very fair
Super funny and does a great job at explaining basic philosophy concepts/philosophers. Tests weren't timed and used some previous quiz questions, so pretty easy. As long as you pay some attention it's really easy to get a good grade and his class tools are accessible. Overall 10/10
Honestly, I did not enjoy this class, I took it instead of ENG111 and it was probably way harder than that so that was dumb. Philosophy is just hard tbh and I don't think Im a fan. I spent so much time on all the assignments and the lecture videos are so boring. You really have to think and dig deep. If you love philosophy sure, but if ydk think...
Funniest professor I've ever had and he was very articulate and good at explaining complex concepts. Witty is an excellent word to describe him and he could probably pursue stand-up comedy. Very likable person.
Philosophy is a very hard subject to grasp, but Kramer is very knowledgeable and does his best to keep us engaged with it. He is hilarious, his lectures are easy to follow along with. Great guy but try to keep up with the work and readings. Usually, we had a discussion post every week and an online quiz every other week or so. Pretty easygoing.
Excellent class. Take anything from Kramer. You will enjoy it, get a lot out of it, and he makes sure you do well
Great class, interesting readings though some were hard to follow, but looked forward to the lectures. Clear, helpful. He wants you to do well and helps a lot. Do the readings and come to class and you will do fine. take notes! he does not like when you just sit there
Bets prof at sbcc. So helpful and lectures are enjoyable. A decent amount of reading but they are interesting and he explain them well in class. The exams are online and not timed and can use notes and readings etc. No proctorio watching over you either. if you show up you can get an A
As far as online lectures go, Kramers were enjoyable. Recorded from an actual in person class, so it is interesting to hear students questions and comments. It is a writing class but does not feel like it. Lots of low point writing work that he helps you with and preps for the bigger stuff. Readings are cool and current and he explains them well
best prof I've probably ever had
I am so glad I dropped the Eng 111 class for this one. There was literally (kramer hates that word, ha!) no critical thinking in the english class. It was ridiculous. Kramers lectures are awesome and he makes sure you do well in the class. Video records his comments on some of the assignments--super helpful. Take his class
Easy class, frustrating professor to say the least.
such a good teacher!! take the class in person because he has very interesting lectures and is very engaging! I struggle with paying attention during lectures but I had no problems in this class. he Is sooo funny too so that made the class a lot more enjoyable
Kramer is literally one of the funniest people I have ever met in my entire life. His humor alone makes you want to show up to class all the time and even get more invested in philosophy. He assigns a fair amount of reading but it's usually not that bad. I cannot stress enough how funny he is though like truly. Definitely take his classes!
Chris treats his lectures as a "workout room" for his stand-up comedy. He is pretty funny, but its out of key when compared to how he grades. If you want a good grade in the class remember to take thorough notes and pay attention when for when he hints quiz/test answers, since they are usually squeezed in after he ran out of time doing crowd work.
On one hand, Mr. Kramer is super charismatic and really cares about the concepts he teaches, which I really appreciated. On the other hand, the lecture would sometimes drift off and have nothing to do with the concepts we were learning. I would take this class again, but just make sure you take notes in class.
Awesome teacher, definitely recomend taking his classes. Kramer is a super nice guy.
So far best class at SBCC. By far. Fun interesting useful and he knows his stuff. Even written essays in journals on the topic Take any class from Kramer
His pre-recorded lectures are long and wander way off-topic. He should consider the ethics of being paid year after year for the same lectures. A professor who cares about philosophy should want to craft fresh lectures and reference current issues to engage students (and be more concise). He expects a lot of effort but doesn't do so the same.
This class was very interesting. Professor Kramer is very funny and makes lectures interesting. He is not too harsh on grading and I was able to do well in this class despite not always coming to class.
Prof Kramer is probably MORE interactive and accessible in the asynch/online class than any teacher I have had in person. I have had numerous one-on one zooms with him, he sends out reminders about assignments, and has new videos with updated info every week. He made sure I passed. Got an A which I did not think possible. Take kramers class
Professor Kramer makes this philosophy class engaging and manageable. The workload is reasonable, and he provides helpful feedback. unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the course materials.
He's a great teacher and anyone who's heavily into philosophy will enjoy his lectures. To those who have a slight interest in it some lectures may get a little boring. He's very funny and interactive. The workload in this class is very easy and there's only one big project. There's no exams and the quizzes are a majority of group quizzes.
Super funny guy, always tried to keep us interested in the lectures by engaging with us. Lots of reading though around 5-7 pages average for each assignment. Super approachable, always ready to help if I had a question on a certain topic. Would definitely take his class again.
Professor Kramer was a good professor and I am sad to have not taken his in person class as I think I would have enjoyed it much more and learned more. Taking philosophy online was pretty difficult for me but overall it was a fairly easy class. Definitely would recommend taking him in person as I am sure it would be easier to understand the content
Best professor I've ever had. Learned a lot and was able to do well despite his grading not being super easy. Kramer inspired me to do well and learn a lot, and he was very available to help/explain things.
Very focused on his own style for the class, would not recommend taking it online. He expects a lot and doesn't make instructions clear, instead depending on students to magically read his mind for how he wants you to write. Way too harsh of a grader for the content he provides which is often comedic and strays away from details class"should know"
He skips all in class discussions in favor of talking for the entire period. He also just rambles on and on about random things that aren't even relevant- He makes me want to never take another philosophy class and his ego is off the chart. Also pro tip if you write a paper and choose a topic he'll agree with, you'll get a much better grade.
I dropped the Eng 111 class because it was awful. So glad I took Kramers philosophy 111. I don't like writing but this class actually made it interesting, it helps that the readings in philosophy are interesting and Kramer's lectures are hilarious.Allows late work often with no penalty and has early drafts for papers where he tells you what to fix
Summer course: 3 Exams (all written). Easy quizzes (2 attempts/takes average scores). Quizlets are helpful. Reflections are easy, but make sure you give critical responses to peers. I thought his grading system was easy and a great class to take over the summer. Make sure you write at least a page and a half for each exam question. Picky on points.
for an online class over the summer and a writing class, I was very pleasantly surprised. Great class, and agree with others about the horrors of ENG 111. Take Kramer's 111 class! Way better. more interesting, useful, and you actually learn. He is also very helpful if you get behind and will make sure you do well in the class.
Wish I could have taken it in person, A great class but the topic seems best in an actual classroom. Even still, lectures funny a "shite" as Kramer might say. Must have changed up quizzes this time around because Quizlets did not help me. But they weren't that hard any way. All essay exams and pretty AI proof, But grades fairly.
Professor Kramer is a good professor, however he can be a bit of a tough grader so keep that in mind, but he always gives detailed reasons why. Another thing to note is the essays take up most of the grade, by far. I only regret taking this online because his classes seem pretty fun in the recorded lecture. Funny guy.
Professor Kramer is a very funny guy. While the course content isn't too difficult, his lectures can be somewhat confusing. There are 3 exams total (including the final) which each have 3 short essays. Grading on discussions/reflections are tough, expect to get a 4.7/5 or 9.3/10 on many assignments. However, getting an A is manageable.
