He was a great prof, the best I had all year. He's a cool guy and makes a lot of references to the Simpsons. He knows what he's talking about and enjoys teaching it. Take his class!
I like his lectures. They're very interesting, in a "conversation between two friends" kind of way. But most of the time, they're of very little substance. I find my notes are jumbled and difficult to follow.
Loving his class. Tough marker, but very enthusiastic and really willing to help students. Cute, too!
Great teacher and very friendly. Gets his point across and in a modern and down-to-earth way and is also funny and witty. One complaint...I find he's not great at making up essay topics. They're usually confusing or the amount of words you can write is too limited.
This guy is a good professor though he goes beyond being wordy into the realm of confusing! His lectures and essay topics and pretty obscure but he loves class discussion and will help you any way he can. He is very friendly and enthusiastic so bare with him through the somewhat confusing lectures! He's pretty young and probably very new on the job
Dr. Lockett is a good prof and is pretty funny. He loves to talk. He is a hard marker but he will help you whenever he can.
He's self-centered and arrogant and that's on the best of days. If you can avoid this prof DO! He's a hard marker which isn't made any easier by the fact that his lectures are all over the place and way to hard to follow. It's almost impossible to take clear and desicive notes in his classroom. Much work will be required at home if want to do well.
He is an amazing prof. Before each assignment I went to talk to him at his office. He was easily approachable and very helpful. I'd like to take another English course with him this semester.
Great Prof and a nice guy. He really knows his stuff and it was a great class. The course material was a good mix of literary texts and critical essays. Not for the faint of heart! Prof Lockett tries to get discussion going so do the reading and bring your game face. He was a fair marker.
Dr. Lockett is the best! His lectures are really interesting, he picks the best novels to study, and he is so helpful! Great Guy! Great prof! Take a class with him if you can!
He is arrogant and narcissistic, but what liberal elitist isn't? At least he's open and honest about it. Even though I didn't show up to as many lectures as I should have, they were quite fascinating with excellent insights into modernism /post-modernism, and American culture in general. Well worth taking his class.
I really liked Lockett a lot. Sure he might come off as arrogant, but he is smart enough too. I didn't find him to be that hard of a marker at all, in fact I found him pretty fair. I would definitely recommend taking one of his classes if you are really into english.
Dr. Lockett was an excellent prof, really down to earth and obviously enjoys his subject. Class discussion was big for him and he appreciates your participation. It was his first semester at MUN and his lectures started off sketchy, but as soon as you understood where he was coming from, he was easy to follow. Great prof, great class.
An excellent prof! His lectures are incredibly engaging, I was NEVER bored in his class!! He is smart, extremely funny, and enjoyable. Puts care into marking assignments and encourages you to discuss with him any difficulties. His passion and knowledge make him an asset in the English department. Aside from that, he's easy on the eyes...heh heh.
amazing proff. he manages to capture everyone's attention but explain the material in depth. he is very constructive in his comments to better your writing and takes the time to explain what you are doing right and wrong. his assignments take thought rather than just quoting from a text. i highly recommend this proff.
Dr. Lockett is a great professor. Even if you don't like him (I do personally), you have to respect him. He knows and loves what he teaches, and he gives a lot of constructive feedback on essays.
He is just the greatest prof ever !!! A little bit of a tough marker, but he gives you great feedback, and cares about how you do !
Great Prof, great guy, always a delight. Knows his stuff.
This guy is brilliant! Best prof I've had at Memorial. It is not mandatory that you attend class, but his lectures are so interesting that you don't want to miss them. Possibly the smartest human being I've ever come into contact with. Super Prof!
The best english professor I have had at MUN, and I have had many!great lectures. Very funny and approachable. Excellent feedback on assignments. An absolute asset to Memorial's English department.
A tough marker, but if you attend class he may bump you up a few marks at the end of the semester. Lectures are a little dull, but if you love English he is an amazing prof. Novel choices were pretty good, although some material is a bit over your head. Brilliant man who clearly loves his career. A little slow correcting papers sometimes though.
INCREDIBLE prof! Very easy to talk to when it came to essays, extremely funny in class, and an all around great guy. Lots of discussion centred around movies and fine arts. Also loves The Duke of Duckworth! [:)] If it's possible to take a course with him, DO IT! You won't be dissapointed!
very approachable. Entertaining lectures. Unfortunately swears exceedingly, which is uncalled for. Also, I took the "detective fiction" class, and yes, the first 3 books were great detective fiction. However, the last three were crime novels. Gory, icky, yuck. How deceitful! Altho his lectures were scatterbrained, u could tell what he wanted
Alright first thing's first, I'm jealous of his massive vocabulary! Where I'm really shy, I found him a little intimidating. However I always looked forward to his class because he always made me laugh... Love his sense of humor! Grading was fair, great comments on essays, and very easy on the eyes :) You rock!
I love Lockett almost as much as I love Kerouac. and that's saying something.
I don't get all the love here?! He was arrogant and self-absorbed. Actually proclaimed himself better read than the entire class combined. Also- criticized students for using words too big (ironic!)on an essay, but claimed he had every right to use the same language as a "tenure-track PhD professor". Insufferable. But attractive, I give you that.
Horrible prof, very arrogant, thinks he's much better then you at all times. No ones speaks up becuase he makes you feel stupid if your answer is wrong. VERY unclear of what he wants in his essays and penalizes you for his wrong. Would NEVER recommend him to ANYBODY!! AVOID IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!!
Anyone who doesn't like this prof clearly didn't go to class or listen to a word he said. If unsure about anything, he gladly clears it up for you, making suggestions along the way. Brilliant man, loves his job, and his attitude is infectious. Take his courses. All of 'em.
DOCTOR Lockett is terrible at returning e-mails. Created his own text book for our class. He skipped readings in it so we did not know what reading we needed to have done for what class. He uses words that are too complicated for 1080 students. You MUST attend class or you'll lose the 15% class participation. Tough marker. Conceited. Don't get him.
He knows what he's talking about, but him telling us how much he knows doesn't teach us anything. Gave one pop quiz, if you didn't go to class that day, there goes 15%, congratulations. Hard marker. Arrogant. Doesn't respond to e-mails. If you don't know anything about English, I wouldn't recommend him. Avoid for first year courses.
Dr. Lockett is quite possibly my favourite educator in my entire academic career. Hilarious guy, engrossing lectures, loved most of the novels for the course. Dr. Lockett managed to get me excited about literature, something that depleted for a few years in high school. At times he can be intimidating but is extremely helpful. HIGHLY recommend.
I always enjoyed Locketts Lectures. Even as they went off on tangents. I felt involved in the class and humored by his blunt and thought provoking nature. My Friends and I Really Miss him this semester, He did an Amazing job and knows what he is talking about.
Dr. Lockett is great. He has a good sense of humour, and shows a lot of passion for his work. He wants you to learn in class, and to come to him for help. A general sense of respect and teacher-student etiquette goes a long way with him. He seems to exude positivity, open-mindedness and is extremely sensible. I need to take another class with him.
geez haters, get over it. I wouldn't have taken this class if I didn't have to, and sometimes the class was painful, but that wasn't Lockett's fault. Great prof, funny, kind of intimdating, but get past that he was really helpful.
Dr. Lockett is a brilliant professor and a wonderful person in general. Really, I can't praise the guy enough. :) His lectures are engaging, his feedback is constructive, and he is very approachable if you have any questions. Majors and prospective honours students are strongly encouraged to take his introductory course in literary criticism.
Chris designed a fantastic, well-organised course with interesting, strategic evaluations, and he was the best lecturer I've had yet at MUN. His ego can irritate a bit, and he took ages to return our first paper, but he made up for that by becoming quite flexible with the remaining deadlines. He's usually quite helpful, too. An excellent professor.
Enjoyed his class until while reviewing for the final, I realized that large sections of the lecture notes I took in class (for Paradise Lost were VERBATIM from a popular online review site. And here I felt silly for resorting to such an unreliable resource for studying. Needless to say, I lost my respect for someone who seemed to "know his stuff!"
Very funny guy. I've always hated english but he made 1080 fun and as interesting as it could be. Slow giving back assigments and stuff, but doesn't mark hard! Overall great prof :)
Lockett is a great prof. He loves his subject, and it shows in his method of teaching. His lectures are highly interactive and ALWAYS interesting. If you show up, and pay attention he'll give you everything you need to know!
Good prof overall quite funny and entertaining but found that his lectures could get off track and he did not spend time lecturing on important topics that he would use for future essay questions. Very fair final exam yet marks papers hard and with very little feedback, he is willing to meet with anyone outside of class though.
I don't have the best attention span but I didn't have trouble paying attention in Christopher Lockett's class. He keeps the material interesting and I felt like I was learning a lot. He likes to joke and made the classes fun. I'd definitely recommend Engl 1080 with him.
EXCELLENT end of story :D
He's a really nice guy and he is very generous in terms of fixing bad marks or getting help. If you read the novels you will be fine, but you should go to class (he also takes attendance and takes that into consideration). Class discussions get a little out of control and stray off topic and class can get boring but overall great prof easy course.
The only thing I liked about Lockett was the classes. They were usually pretty interesting, but takes FOREVER to give back essay's! It took him over a month to hand back a 1000 word essay. He also does not believe in being in his office during his office hours, and takes a long time to respond to emails, if at all. Besides all of that, good course.
i thought lockett would be among my fav profs b/c hes a funny guy & kept lectures pretty interesting. Towards the middle i started to get annoyed when he had clear favourites in class and NEVER handed anything back on time. He was no help when i tried to understand a grade i received & his lectures lost substance and structure.
This is the washed-up film professor you've heard your peers talk about. The material was interesting and he examined the films well, but he cares little about teaching and having his students succeed. His ego ought to be deflated if he is to gain respect from his students.
He is a good prof and I enjoyed his lectures but he was extremely late handing back all assignments and didn't give ANY marks back until after the add/drop date. He gives out average marks but doesn't give any explanations on how to improve.
You either love him or you hate him. He does tend to pick favourites so make sure you talk a lot in the first few days of class to get on his good list. He is an amazing lecturer and I have attended some of his out of class lectures just for something to do. I would totally recommend him out of sheer amazingness. I am taking more classes with him!
He was a very opinionated professor. Not open to class discussions. He handed back the assignments after the add/drop date. Overall frustrating class experience.
Lockett was great as a prof. He kept class interesting and answered questions very well, especially when the material was difficult. He is a fair grader, though it does take a while to get papers back.
Lockett is hilarious and awesome, loves class discussion. however he goes off topic often. get on his good side. fair marker, slowest marker EVER but usually worth the wait. very nice guy, highly recommend! he is terrible at answering emails however
Very moody. Hates cell phones. Takes attendance and definitely notices when you're not there. Likes when you speak up a lot in class discussions. Also in love the The Odyssey.
At first, I hated Dr. Lockett. My first two papers were 60's. But if you go to class and read the novels he gives you a fair shot to improve your grade. The final was fair and his lectures are interesting. A little arrogant but I would probably take another class with him.
Dr. Lockett is a pleasure inside and outside of the classroom. He's intelligent, passionate about the course content, and chooses great novels. For this course, we read 5 novels which were accompanied by 5 films. The films included things like Aliens and The Hurt Locker, so it was entertaining. Great prof, but you'll have to work to get an A.
Great prof. Eager to help if you take the time to meet with him. Easy marker as long as you show effort. Gives good lectures and makes dry material seem interesting. Attendance is somewhat mandatory but he is very understanding if you miss classes (even once a week), he just wants you to participate.
Dr. Lockett is a great lecturer! He is never boring or drags things on. He always will give you other novels or mediums to check out if you're interested in certain books covered in class. He has a good grading criteria and explains what he wants from the class. Most quizzes will be the best 6/8, so if you miss one no big deal. Great prof!
Chris is fantastic! His classes were so much fun, he was hilarious, and he always showed pictures of his (adorable) cats! He is very clear in his grading criteria and gives good feed back on how you can improve. His workload is not bad at all, and you could still get by even without reading the novels. HIGHLY recommend this prof.
Lockett is smart and he knows what he's doing, but he KNOWS that he is smart and thus acts incredibly cocky and snobbish. Don't bother sending him emails because he often will not respond. Harass him in his office. He also doesn't give any critique on your papers - he tells you what you did right but not how to improve. Disappointed.
Chris is AWESOME. Very intelligent and well-spoken. He doesn't use D2L, so prepare to go to class-- attendance is necessary. His lectures are interesting and funny, and he chose interesting poems, rhetorics, and novels. He expects a lot of husband students, but I would HIGHLY recommend taking his course!
His book list is 9 books, 2 of which are short story collections. He's slow at grading and his feedback feels really generic. He isn't always in his office during office hours and class discussion is always an off topic book club. He's a nice guy but a frustrating prof.
A wonderful professor, both as a lecturer and as a mentor. Smart, caring, and willing to guide you as a student and as a person. You have to earn his respect and trust, but once you do, he's as good as gold. Very difficult to get an A in his class, but if you put in the work, you'll do just fine.
Dr. Lockett is a great guy for the most part but some of his teaching habits leave a lot to be desired. He does not use Brightspace (D2L), and he does not respond to e-mails unless you send them multiple times. Overall hes a great guy though and hes funny and picks good course materials.
An awesome guy, he is a great lecturer and always makes his lectures topical and interesting. He tells you what he wants done on his assignments and also gives you lots of choice on what you can do. He grades very fairly and gives a format guide for how he wants his essays done which you can go to for help. Will be taking again.
Rambles on and on in class. Goes off topic. Takes weeks to hand papers back. Can make you feel belittled. Very opinionated. Material will be boring if you're not into the same tv/films that he is. Very tough grader & feedback was not useful. Swears in class which is off-putting. I often left class not knowing what the topic that day actually was.
His lectures are very off topic and I often leave wondering what I even learned, if anything. He can be a bit rude sometimes, it seems you either love him or hate him. He is a tough grader but gives no feedback on how to improve your writing. He also takes ages to give back graded assignments. There are so many readings! I do not like his teaching.
Really liked him and will definitely take a class with him again. Yes he's opinionated as most of the criticism says but I found as long as you knew what you were talking about and defended your opinions well he was very open to seeing your side of things. Nice to have someone who acts like an actual human being as a prof! also very understanding!!
Excellent and intelligent prof, very opinionated but approachable, not too hard of a grader and his lectures are very interesting if you attend and put in the work. I loved his approach to this course and will be taking another course with him again! Nice to go to a class that feels less like a lecture and more like a conversation with the prof!
Lockett is a great guy who is really there to help. He is open to talking with all of his students about any issues they have ongoing in or out of school. He understands that things happen away from class and will allow you to hand a paper in late with in reason & he owns up to his own mistakes too. A real gem who I would take again for any course!
All I got to say is, this man knows so much much about American literature and he loves to prove it.... by going off on an hour long tangent... every class.
Only 3 essays and a final but unless you are really good at writing essays, do not take this course. Lockett is very passionate about this course which is great but as someone who just needed an english credit I found it quite difficult.
Dr. Lockett is by no means a bad prof, but he isn't a good one either. His teaching style while apparently beloved by many, did not appeal to me. His refusal to use D2L and mandatory attendance is annoying as well. He is a fairly strict grader and expects concise structured essays, when ironically his lectures are long, unfocused and tangential.
He is a good professor! he does grade tough and he doesn't use D2L so you have to go to every class and take notes! He is passionate about his work and will help if you ask him for it! I would take him again!
Really want to take another course from him!
Great prof! Really hard to get ahold of sometimes but he made taking a course about pandemic fiction during a pandemic fun :)
Dr. Lockett is an enjoyable professor to have. The lectures are interesting and engaging. This is a seminar course, so participation does matter. The only thing I didn't enjoy was how much reading we had to do, it felt like a lot. However if you are a book lover, you will enjoy this course!!
Dr. Lockett is okay, but I would not go out of my way to take another class with him. I felt like I ended up learning more about his personal life than actual course content, which some people find approachable/friendly, but I just feel like we pay way too much in tuition for that. The course/content itself was pretty cool and interesting though.
I always had a great time in lectures with Dr. Lockett. Found him to be very funny and beyond passionate about the course material, which was great considering it was Lord of the Rings. I thought the assignments were fun, but graded much more harshly than I was used to. It kind of threw me through a loop I wasn't expecting. A good prof otherwise!
Really nice guy, knowledgeable and open-minded, but acts more like a peer than a prof. Doesn't seem to care about the student experience (giving feedback, marking assignments, replying to emails). Very frustrating if you're a keener.
Lockett is a pretty good guy who goes into detail about the required readings to help you understand. He is a tough grader but if you go to his office hours he'll explain his critiques to you. Barely uses D2L and keeps attendance so I probably go to class. Doesn't give out many essays/assignments and is late when handing them back. Loves sarcasm
Lockett is a super nice, and helpful prof! He has clear grading criteria and is very approachable. His lectures can be quite dry, however, he is funny and engaging!
Dr. Christopher Lockett is a great prof, his lectures are good (for the English department). he tries his best to learn every student's name. he seems to really care for his students and work. the only downside is that he is prob 3.5/5 for grading difficulty, but he does give some great advice on how to fix your grade.
Professor Lockett was absolutely incredible, 10/10 I'd take him again.
I'm not even going to be chill about this, Dr. Lockett is one of my favourite profs. This is the third course I've taken with him. Dr. Lockett is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject. He gives really interesting lectures, though this class was based mostly on discussion. Also, he's really funny and approachable. A great prof.
Christopher Lockett was a great professor! I went into it as an American Literature requirement and ended up enjoying it more than I thought. He is very friendly and gives good advice if you make use of his office hours. He takes attendance, so that is mandatory, and he is sometimes late on handing back grades. And his lectures were entertaining!
If you could be friends with him then you'll like him as a professor. If he thinks you want to be his friend he'll like you back. That sums up Lockett.
Lockett was an amazing professor and genuinely made me enjoy the 9am class! His lectures were engaging, entertaining and very knowledgeable!
I really enjoyed having Dr. Lockett as a prof. His lectures were very interesting and made the 9am class worth it. He's also really funny which made the class even more entertaining. A lot of reading material but I thoroughly enjoyed everything on the reading list. I would take another class with him.
He can come off a bit scary/cold especially to a first year student, but he is actually very helpful. Some instructions for assignments can be unclear, but if you ask questions, you'll be fine. Assignments were enjoyable and offered a lot of bonus marks for submitting early / on time. G/A's have helpful feedback. Lots of reading + viewings.
Forgot to grade my paper 4 times. Never answers emails. Syllabus says drs notes, Told him i was getting one, but later went to give it to him he said he didnt need it, waste of 20 bucks. Replied to 2 of the 10 emails i sent. Spoke rudely to me. witnessed him speaking rudely to other students. Harsh grader. attandence is super important.
I have never had a worse professor, and I say that with all due respect. There are pop quizzes literally every single class on top of attendance checking, to ensure attendance is maintained. The lectures, however, are weak as prof struggles to stay on topic most of the time. Nothing is uploaded online and he does not even accept online submissions.
Doesn't respond to emails, very frustrating in the case that I was unable to hand in an assignment on the due date as I was sick and couldn't attend class or office hours that day. The weekly quizzes are fairly hard as there is no online notes to help prepare and he goes off topic in lectures making it hard to write my own notes
Lockett is awesome and makes my early morning lectures engaging and fun. He is very accommodating and accessible outside of class, but if you want feedback you will have to go to him directly which I highly recommend and he provides excellent feedback. Such an awesome professor who can make any lesson fun.
Will respond to your emails if you are hot
This class was a nightmare. Lockett is extremely unorganized, going off topic but making it unclear when he goes back ON topic each class. Extremely hard grader, and you really need to become friends with him if you want to be successful in this course. Something due every class including weekly quizzes. There was a final exam AND paper. AVOID!!
