Dr. Mahr is a very good teacher.very cleay.explain good.If you want take stat. he's the one you should take with.
This class is a breeze. The homework is not required and either is class attendance. I did not attend one full lecture nor did i do the homework and i ended up with an A. Grades Easy. He is extremely confusing though. Only take him if you are good at teaching yourself or already know the material.
He made this class as easy as it could possibly be. He's a nice guy, and he guarantees that everyone will pass with a C or better as long as they do the homework.
Great teacher, not clear though. HW not required nor is class attendence. Wants everyone to pass his class and allows students to redo mistakes on some tests. Final was open book and his a very easy grader. Take Mahr if you have a chance.
Very reasonable grader. Stick with it and you will get a C or above for sure. It's okay to bomb a couple tests. Do the homework to prepare for the tests. If you don't understand meet with him or find someone you can learn from.
Very nice guy and good teacher. He knows what he is doing but sometimes he can get real confusing unless you follow his lectures carefully. Test are fair and sometimes lets you correct them for credit. Final is open book. Take him to get easy grade and waive off your math req.
Very nice professor. ALWAYS available for extra one-on-one help. Before class, after class, through e-mail, whenever he can help you he will. The class itself has a lot of material to cover but it will all come together in the end. Stay on top of things and you'll earn a good grade.
Not the easiest class, but I still recommend him for stat, only. Keep track of ur grade, he can misslead you, claimed to drop the lowest grade and average the homework into our grade but never did. I liked him till the end, too bad. Keep up with the HW, won't learn that much by the end tho, again too bad.
Very fair professor. Always available if you need more help. Do all the homework and take all the quizzes and the minimum grade you get is C even if you fail all tests. Would highly recommend this professor to anyone. I learned a great deal from him.
Mahr does not teach this class good. I have actually taken a Pre-Calc class before at HFCC and I am glad that I did. I felt bad for the other students of whom this was thier first time taking the class. The tests were pretty straight foward, and he does not expect you to do any difficult problems. he gives quizes toward the end of the semester, tha
This class was really hard. I really liked this professor as a person, he really did want his students to learn and allowed us to correct errors on our tests. Mahr obviously knows what he's talking about, but he's not always clear in explaining it. Tests are difficult. Nice guy, though
You can't read his writing, but he gives open book quizes and if you do the homework you get 120%. Also gives some extra credit, the tests are very easy...final is open book too.
Very nice guy, will repeat things as many times as needed to make topics clear. The class itself if really easy, the material can be confusing at first but the examples in class and in the book are exactly what are on the quizzes and tests. Do most of the homework (it's collected), take clear notes in class and you'll be fine, makes the tests easy.
tests are very hard, 100% of grade comes from tests and final exam. he does promise a C grade to everyone who scores at least 50% on the tests and completes their HW.
Very easy class, three tests, a final and a quiz every end of the chapter. If the class does bad he will allow u to correct the mistakes on the tests and add 4% to your score. The Final Exam was mid blowing through, don't underestimate it. I got an A and so can u.
he's a nice guy and knows his subject....he just can't expalin it to others very well...if you get confused easily with math he's probably not the best choice
if you are not sitting in the first 2 rows of class you might as well not go because he writes so small that you can't see the notes he is giving. promises a C if you do all of the homework completely and final was a take home but it isn't easy. does give you a chance to up your test scores though by a few points with corrections. I got a C.
This professor made a tremedous amount of mistakes on the board and while correcting tests. He messed up all of our proofs and examples. He was nice but should not be teaching math. If you want to do well in this class you must teach yourself the material because he will not, although he will confuse you out of your mind.
The best teacher...you will pass his class no matter what...reason for that it cuz as along as u do ur HW than u will get a C in his class now what do u think will happen if u study???? In A!
he should be the head of the department, only because hes the only down to earth math professor i mean he realizes that most students take precalc because they need it, and math might just not be their subject anyhow, he adds 5 pts to each test and allows another 5 pts for corrections, he also allows make up exams his class is fail proof
First off we got an A. Secondly if you stare at him long enough you will realize that he looks like Mrs. Garrison off South Park. Thirdly his daughter proctored the final exam. Enough said.
he is good
who says this professor is easy?? did u guys forget how hard his test are and what was the average for the final exam again? ya it was a 67, i hope you guys didnt forget that. i got tricked into taking this professor and then completely got screwed.
you will pass this class. as long as you attempt the hw. doesnt really get what you are asking when you try to get something clarified. if you dont know the material prior, or at least familiar with it, you will get lost in the second half of class, especially if you dont come to class. he is very knowledgeable about the subject.
Very nice professor, but confused me when he was teaching. Tests were all open book, but it doesn't mean that helped at all, test were difficult. Still got an A in the class, so it is doable even if you don't average well on the exams, do good on the final and you can still get an A!
If ur taking calc take Mahr. Hands out extra credit like candy. Does everything in his power to make sure u pass. Definately take! Drops lowest test/quiz.
As a Sociology major, stats is not my thing. I would not recommend this teacher to those apprehensive about the subject, find another prof. He doesn't follow the book and his lectures are VERY confusing and he doesn't respond to questions well. He skips steps on the board and it isn't easy to follow.
Easiest teacher by far! You walk into every Exam with extra credit points. Very nice! Always willing to help! He curves if the class did bad. TAKE THE EXAMS IN THE BACK OF THE CHAPTER! He takes questions straight from there and puts them on the test! Quizses are straight from the hw and are open book/open note!
Extremely easy class! I am a Psych major and have never gotten an A in a math course before this class. All of the notes are posted online; attendance is optional. And all of the quizzes are open book! Tests are graded on a curve and doing your homework and test correction gives you extra credit! Would recommend.
Very easy class. Skips around a bit, but offers a lot of extra credit. Easy A if you pay attention.
I am the type of person who procrastinates A LOT and yet this teacher was pretty easy. Quizzes are open note and book and as long as you do the homework, the test shouldn't be too hard. I waited until day of to study and got As on my exams. Also, if you do well on the exams, if you do a project, you don't have to do the final. Really easy class.
The BEST calc professor ever! I can't thank professor Mahr enough. If you have to take calc then he is the one to take it with. I retook this class and he is infinitely better than my previous professor. Make sure you do the econ problems and all extra credit. Attendance is optional but it is worth coming for sure.
Definitely one of the greatest professors! He truly cares about his students and wants us to succeed. He makes a somewhat difficult course very manageable. Take him, you won't regret it!
Professor Mahr is so fair and easy going. He is just an adorable old man with a sense of humor. Do the homework. He is also very good about giving back points.
Ive had him 3 times. Very nice guy, very lenient. Gives tons of extra credit that you can add to test. Quizs are open note and open book. You can bring a cheat sheet to the test and the final is open note and open book. If you fail him youre just LAZY. If he see’s youre trying even though you’re struggling he will give no less than a C
not clear in explaining material
save your money and time and don't take this guy. nice guy but hard professor.
Loves to give C's. overall, very hard.
Came into clas excited and it was very hard to understand and learn. Had to teach myself the material. Hardest teacher at UMD.
Good teacher but a tough grader. He is sometimes very hard to follow and at other times very easy.
i dont know why he doesnt have a 5/5 he is the best professor ive ever had. he gives extra credit every class towards the test and his teaching style is WOW. i dont even study and i understand most of it. also he lets you drop 2 tests!!! and always offers corrections. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Mahr is a good guy, but a terrible professor. It's easier to teach yourself the chapter from the book than listen to his lectures. Makes everything 100x more confusing. However,he does give a lot of extra credit and drops a couple tests. He's not worth the frustration though.
my FAVORITE math professor. This guy hands out extra credit EVERY class. As long as you come to class and listen, YOU WILL get an A. He is very relaxed and only assigns around 8 homework problems per chapter which are exactly what appear on the test. TAKE HIM YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. oh and hes really funny!!!
Was doing great during the beginning of the semester and use to get B's on exams, then the final came. That was the hardest exam I ever took. Even though it was open book-not helpful at all since he makes up his own questions! He talks to the board when teaching and tends to mess up a lot! Don't recommend this professor!
Mahr is a nice person and is an ok teacher. The material is pretty easy, so you can teach yourself the stuff. Hes not the best teacher, but hes a nice guy. 4 exams (One drop), and a final
Very nice guy, but soooo confusing. He will cover 3 sections in one day and only give one example per section. If you ask for help, you'll be more confused. He does give extra credit problems and allows pts for test corrections. I'm usually pretty good at math but I worked my tail off to get my A.
This guy is a terrible professor. If I hadn't already had a few stats classes in the past, I would have been lost for certain. He starts teaching a section like the class already knows the topic. No doubt the guy knows what he is doing, but he reminds me a lot of a dad teaching his kid complex math formulas to do simple addition. He is bad.
Not my favorite, he gives examples and doesn't finish them. As stated by another rater, he teaches like we are already supposed to know the material and he over complicates. If you ask him a question you'll be even more confused than before. I have never had to drop a class until now in my academic career and I am a senior. he is also boring.
Professor Mahr gave 3 tests and you drop 1, and 9 quizzes where you drop 2. The quizzes are all hw questions that you can use your notebook on and you get a notecard to use on the tests. The final was worth 30 percent of your grade, but you could use your textbook. He's okay at explaining the material, but he offers a lot to bring your grade up.
He is disorganized and often teaches methods or uses symbols different from the book. He frequently makes mathematical mistakes when writing on the board and mumbles. This class was very stressful and I relied heavily on my engineer boyfriend to teach me the material. Only redeeming quality is the extra credit in class and the dropped testquizzes.
I really don't see what everyone on here is complaining about. His quizes are open book, open note, you're allowed a note-card for exams, and the final is open book and you are allowed to use your notecards from previous exams. You honestly have to try to fail his class. I don't know any professor that is this easy going and laid back.
Wound up with a 100% at the end of the semester without the use of any EC. If you don't get a B or higher in this class you might want to reconsider whether or not you're ready for college because this is one of the easiest professors at the university. He drops your lowest exam, has an open-book final, and offers a ton of EC. Take him.
Worst professor, he is always confusing himself and seems like he doesnt really know the material. He will constantly change due dates and the rubric for the project. HE WILL NEVER ANSWER AN EMAIL!!!!! he has more than 1000 unread emails and he was never in his office.
Assigns in-class work almost every class period. He can be fairly confusing at times but he explains things fairly well. He drops quite a few assignments & tests but that is basically your whole grade.
He provides lecture notes and pretty much sticks to them. He goes quickly but if you print out the notes you should be able to follow along well. Takes student questions and won't move ahead until everyone understands. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will miss the in-class assignments. He does offer an alternative assignment, though.
A little rough around the edges but one of the few lecturers that actually want and willing to help you succeed. I would take him again without a second thought
Take his class, you'll pass. He can't teach to save his life, his notes are all hand written (super sloppy) then displayed on the projector, he goes over homework problems on the board but you can't understand anything he is saying since he just does the problem and talks to himself, never EVER does he explain what he is doing.
Uses different textbook then required by the school. Also makes you do Webworks for homework points.
This man just a GOAT. Indescribable just take him and see. You wont regret it especially cause he cold wit the chalk like that.
This man is probably my favorite professor. I suck at math and this man is going to get me a B due to extra credit and multiple chances to prove myself. Trust me, this man is the absolute goat. But, he will mumble to himself and make math mistakes. He's only human, but still the goat.
He's really laid back and gives you chances to retake tests if you didn't do well. Just take his class, he really is the goat and you won't regret choosing him.
This guy is the GOAT. He drops you lowest exam score, a quiz, and 4 in class assignment. Sounds like a match made in heaven? Gets better. He lets you do test corrections. This class is set up for you to pass. TAKE HIM!!!! Easiest A.
This was the first class that I rarely showed up to. I would just turn the homework in before class started then leave. Mahr is a great guy and is one of the easiest calc teachers you will find. VERY generous with his grading. Tests are kinda difficult but he is generous with curves and retakes. Lots of assignments but easy class.
Easy class, good teacher. Knows calculus. I am happy I purchased the manual although I did not have to purchase it. You get what you work for. Drops the lower/est scores, plenty of chances to make it up. The exams are a little hard but doable. Has a good sense of humor, understands some of us have work outside of school. I would take him again.
Overall, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Offers retakes on exams and redos on assignments. which makes it hard to fail his class. You have to turn in a preliminary exercise each class period.
Calc 2 is a hard class, and if you can manage to pay attention you'll learn, although I found it hard not to zone out. There are (supposed to be) 4 tests, and he drops the lowest one. He's a caring old man, and was especially thoughtful during the pandemic. I went to every class and somehow passed with an A, almost A+! Idk how, but not complaining!
Overall a very fair professor, which he should be considering his lectures can be a bit all over the place. Drops your lowest scores for quizzes and in-class exercises.
Does not reply to emails fast enough, his rubric for projects are very brief. Beware.
doesn't reply to emails until a few days after, very vague with his directions. Does not go into detail about anything.
Textbook is mandatory , easy class , Professor is excellent but he takes a while to grade things . 3 tests ( lowest score dropped ) , 6 quizzes ( lowest score dropped), one extra credit opportunity, and a project. Project takes time so I suggest that ya dont wait last min to get started on it.
Class consists of 3 tests (lowest score can be dropped) and 6 quizzes (one can be dropped). he even lets you take tests and quizzes from home if you ask, so it's really an easy A. He is a super caring guy, made math bearable for me.
This is the best professor I have ever had bless this man
Professor Mahr is not a difficult teacher, he is very straight forward with his assignments and is always trying to help. He does take a little long to answer emails, however, he's great on giving time for homework assignments and will sometimes extend due dates to make sure everyone understands. I recommend taking STATS with this professor.
Prof. Mahr should not teach online-only courses. I mostly learned everything on my own from the *free* textbook which was nice but then why did I pay thousands of dollars? The homework and grading was a mess and I was never given feedback. Tests were distributed late and he speaks very unclearly in zoom lectures. I would not recommend this class.
This class was very easy. Im not great at math but most quizzes were online and self-paced, and in-person ones were open-note with computer access. There are only 3 tests with cheat sheets allowed. Its best to take in person for shorter quizzes and tests. Attendance is mandatory, but honestly you only need to show up for quizzes and tests. Easy A
extremely easy
He's amazing, he will always accommodate for students if necessary, and overall he is the best.
Very calm and cool professor. Doesn't care about assignments unless they are completed. A little bit strict with grading overall explains well. Gives chances to retake the test/quiz and also extended time for assignments.
9 quizzes (1 for each chapter): 2 are dropped. Final is a project not an exam, so that's pretty cool. Did have to rely on the textbook to learn the material. Grading is very slightly odd. Overall seemingly nice guy and he responds to emails pretty quick.
Very good professor
Be prepared to teach yourself. Only give one example per teaching technique. While doing it he has to edit a lot of his work because so much of it is wrong. He doesn't show his work which is ironic because in math students are always expected to show work. He knows math, just not how to get others to understand it.
Honestly he may not be the best at teaching students BUT his class is very easy and no person should ever really fail. If someone manages to fail then it is their fault for not trying hard enough
Unless you can teach yourself statistics, I would not take this class.
This class is very easy. The textbook is available online. Attendance is not mandatory, but if too many students stop attending, in-class exercises start being assigned. He is also very nice to correct any mistakes made. He also drops the lowest grade from Tests 1 and 2 and the lowest quiz grade. Also, some quizzes are just HW problems submitted.
