Dr. Mann is a really great professor. He explains things thoroughly, gives examples, and even provides a note guide for class notes. He offers extra credit and sets up review sessions. 4 exams, online homework roughly every week and a half, and an optional final to replace a bad exam. He makes it so you can succeed. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Very smart guy. Makes his tests pretty hard.
Mann is a good professor, he doesn't have too many exams. The lecture is pretty clear. But not enough in-class practice. I'll take his class again. Also, the final exam is not required. It's counted as extra points.
He expected you to know a lot, but rightfully so. I didn't think the tests were too hard if you pay attention and do homework. The homework is online and should be able to get 100% on everything. Would take him for any course.
Mann really knows his stuff, but he is a terrible teacher. The book is no use because he even says that he doesn't like the book, so reading will not help. His lectures are very bland and does not explain things well at all. Rather, he draws graphs and equations but doesn't interpret them well and those are the ones that are tested.
Very knowledgeable about the subject matter but terrible teacher. Draws graphs the entire class and confuses the heck out of most people. Only gives three tests and no quizzes so if you have a bad test, you're screwed. Not very approachable. Calls himself "Economann" which is arrogant and annoying.
Dr. Mann was a very helpful and nice professor. He was always willing to see me even outside of his office hours. Don't Skip his class and do the practice exams, then you will pass. Tough exams, but very similar to the practice questions. He made the lectures more interesting with real world examples.
Attendance is graded. Only has 3 tests with the final being optional. The grade on the final replaces the lowest midterm exam. Gives out practice tests that are very similar to the actual tests. Never used the book. It was a good class and I would take it with him again.
Honestly if you do the work and show up to class you'll do fine. Talk to him in his office hours to get value from his class, though - Mann is extremely insightful and fun to chat with.
Dr. Mann definitely knows his subject. However, lectures seemed to drag on forever and were not exactly thrilling, but he seems like a nice guy. There was an opportunity for extra credit at the end of the semester and only 3 of the 4 tests/final were graded. Easy course to get an A if you're willing to do the work.
One of the best professors at UNL hands down. The way he explains economics to his students seems a little run on but he tries to help them out as much as possible. His reviews are the most helpful things ever! No way anyone should get lower than a B even if you don't know anything about economics.
I had Dr. Mann for both Principles and Intermediate Macro. He's very helpful and the class isn't too hard. GO TO REVIEW SESSIONS! Those are most like questions on the exam and you can get feedback and a walk through of each problem. I wish they had something like it for the intermediate class. All around great professor.
Very good professor to take 211 with. Tries to be very tech savvy but lacks in that department. ABSOLUTELY HATES when students pack up early or talk during class.
Big Bad Mann is the best! Great at lecturing but if you don't want to pay attention you can go to the review session before the test and get an A. This has been my second class with him and I have zero regrets. The only part that I don't like is mandatory attendance and homework but it's a good grade booster.
Doesn't explain well about all the tested topics. 3 exams that make up your grade and no make up test. Screw up one test and your CGPA drops tremendously. Have projects that require to use a program called the "R program" that teaches you nothing about economics and requires a lot of time to complete if you dont have any programming background.
This class is super easy and he's really knowledgeable and excited about the material. The homework is easy but kind of tedious. Pay attention in class and you should be just fine.!
I took Dr. Mann's classes for both ECON211 and 212. He is amazing and really nice. The class is all lectures. Book is optional but it helps you do the homework faster and better. The homework is on Connect and due only once every week or a week and a half. The practice exams are very helpful and cover 70% of the exam questions.
He will not curve your grade no matter the circumstance. Lectures are boring as hell. Material isnt that hard, but I wouldn't recommend him
Professor Mann is a great professor if you just want to get an easy A. He is a pretty good teacher and you can learn if you want to but the way the class is set up you can pretty much get an A without having to do much studying. For an entry level econ course I would definitely recommend him.
Really enjoys the subject of Economics and is glad to teach it. Does attendance on TopHat, would recommend showing up because he throws out fat extra credit with his lecture questions on TopHat. Study guides really help with the tests and one test is dropped. Good teacher, good class.
I have taken two classes with Chris Mann and have done amazing in both of them. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to explain hard material better to make it easier to understand. He provides the students with the necessary resources to succeed in his class. I look forward to taking another class with him. A++ Professor.
He's a great teacher, very in depth, however he offers no extra credit and the majority of your grade is based off the tests. It's a really tough class to pass.
Have to go to office hours for homework as nothing is explained in class about it. Homework completely different from exams, but flexible exam dates and study guide helps.
He is one of the best professor's I've had at UNL. He's a smart guy and knows what he's talking about. His tests can be difficult, but go to class and do the homework and you won't have a problem. There's a lot of easy homework, which balances out the exam scores. He uses a lot of real world examples in class and truly cares about his students.
Chris is literally the MANN (pun intended). This class is easy. He provided practice exams before each test that had exact questions that would be on the test. The guy gives some good lectures and makes the information easy to understand. Comprehensive final kinda stinks but it's still pretty easy.
Not my favorite class. Lectures are so boring. He has practice exams for you to study off those which help a ton on the exams.
Mann is a very good professor, however the lectures tend to be dry. He offers extra credit through in class participation, but nothing extraordinary. Tests taken in the DLC and homework being online gives a lot of flexibility. Tests can be hard.
Not the best professor out there. Although, he knows what he's talking about but the homework and the tests are completely different from each other. He barely teaches us how to use "R studio" which there are a lot of questions that requires us to use R studio.
Really wish we had a textbook to go along with the lessons. He does not do very many practice problems and we can't open the old homework assignment which makes studying for the exams difficult. Makes you use R program which could be useful, but the assignments are too hard with our level of understanding of it. Go to the TA and he'll help you.
Mann is alright for ECON 212. Basically, buy the book study the book, come to lecture and MAYBE you'll learn something around his long, boring, repetitive lectures. 9/10 guaranteed you'll fall asleep. So if you are good at teaching yourself material, take this course!
Doesn't respond to emails. Lectures do not pertain to exams. The homework website doesn't work and is full of typos, so forget about getting above a 0% on assignments. Exams are easy but only worth 60% of grade. If he figured out his homework website, it wouldn't be that bad but he has been extremely difficult to work with regarding these issues.
I had Mr. Mann for both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics over two semesters. He is very interested in what he teaches, but his voice sometimes gets tiring. Microeconomics was the harder of the two classes (more homework, harder content), but I ended with an A in both classes. Both classes also had study guides that were very similar to the tests.
This dude comes to class each day just elated to have a chance to talk about econ. His lectures are imperative but not much else is as long as you pay attention and ask questions while in class. If you show you care at all about the material he well love you. EXTREMELY good at making complex problems easy to digest.
I've taken ECON211 and 212 with Mann and loved him. His lectures may seem a little dry, but he's passionate about his subject and makes difficult concepts easy to understand (if you can stay awake). Do the study guides for the tests!! They have some of the exact questions as the test and most others are very similar
He lectures the entire time, he wasn't monotone so it made it slightly easier but the content was repeated so many times after doing prelecture videos on sapling. Honestly this course might as well be online, half the class never showed up, he posts the notes onto canvas. Also the exams are not the easiest, dont really correlate with homework
He knows well what he is teaching and make sure that we, students, understand what he is teaching. He respects us and gave great feedback and help during his office hour. Tests are okay and will be every easy if you have some calculus background. I will definitely recommend him to you.
Dr. Mann is a brilliant guy, but a miserable professor. Has you purchase a textbook, but none of the material in that textbook is covered in class. He talks about topics he's strictly interested in. This would be fine, but many times he isn't clear and he is the only resource you can attain the info from (only one hour of office hours per week).
He was willing and happy to help if I had any questions on the material/exams. He gave us review tests that were similar to the real exams. The online homework was not too bad. Many exam questions came directly from the homework, the practice quizzes online, and the review tests.
Overall, Mann is a very caring teacher and is passionate about what he teaches. The class is very straightforward. The online work is easy and the tests are too if you pay attention and go through the practice tests. I didn't open the book once either. Attendance wasn't required when I took it, but I heard he has changed that.
Mann was a great teacher and was super passionate about what he is teaching. Homework took forever but really helps you to be ready for exams. Also he gives you practice exams which are practically identical to the real thing. be ready to show up to class because he hands outs attendance sheets randomly and teaches solely using lectures.
- monotone - it's easier to learn in the book - tests drop everyone - so hard to listen to
If you can take someone else, do. Dr Mann is one of the worst professors I've ever had in my life and he is rude when you ask him questions.
Professor Mann knows what he is talking about when he lectures and has the class formatted in a way that all learning styles and speeds can be accommodated for. If you want the credit, just take this class. It's so straightforward.
Professor Mann was often disrespectful and rude to students who asked questions in class. I somewhat understood it at first as I thought we were just crunched for time some days, but it happened all the time even if the students question was a simple one.
Professor Mann covers the important materials during his lectures. His tests are also material that is cover both in your textbook and in his lectures. Be sure to do the practice exams and materials offered to study prior to each test.
Do not take this class as an online/5-week session unless you can commit 15+ hours of studying and work weekly. Easy to get an A but not without effort. Seven exams in 5 weeks is too much. Lowest test and two lowest HW are dropped. Mann is super helpful and truly wants his students to succeed, however. Don't be afraid to ask for help!
I took this class Fall 2020 during the pandemic. The course was mostly online, though you could choose to attend lectures in person. You'll do fine if you watch the lectures, take notes, and study briefly before the exams. He's not the best at responding to emails.
Terrible professor. With everything going on this year, he doesnt seem to care at at all about his students. Heard terrible things about him didnt believe it until I took it myself. The sad part is hes the only professor that offers this class. Changing my whole major so I dont have to deal with him again.
Great guy, passionate about the subject, boring lectures and exams are impossible. Dont bother asking him for help hell answer emails 5 days later then turn you down politely.
Took this class Fall 2020 during the pandemic. Course was mostly online and in-person lectures were optional. All handouts, lecture notes, quizzes, and assignments were provided through Canvas. 7 open-note quizzes for each module with the lowest one dropped. 14 HW assignments with lowest 2 dropped. Really smart and caring guy, but boring lectures.
He didn't really lecture during class. He posted 25 page handouts and 70 some page presentations and 6 hours of lectures to watch each week. During class, one day a week, he went over some practice problems. We had a test every two weeks and one homework assignment every week. There were only 100 points in the entire class.
I learned more about economics from Professor Mann than I've learned from any other person. He does a great job of explaining dense concepts in an understandable way during lectures. Only downside is that he requires the LockDown Browser for tests, which is a waste of time and sort of an invasion of privacy.
Overall good professor. Tests were lockdown browser and worth 80% of your grade but he allowed you to take them twice! He also dropped the lowest test score too and his lectures were very helpful and if you studied the homework and the practice tests you would do just fine on the tests.
This was a great intro to microeconomics. The class content consisted of watching/going to the lectures and doing the easy online HW assignments. There were four exams and a final. One exam gets dropped, and a few hw assignments get dropped. Since my semester was virtual, it might've been easier than normal, but it doesn't take too much time.
This class needs you to work hard. Mann is a very patient professor. He is trying his best to explain everything and make lectures as simple as possible. If you study and work daily, it will be an easy "A" in the end.
He's lectures were really great and the homework was super manageable. Easy A if you do good on the tests, and super hard to get below a B
Lectures can get pretty boring but you can tell he cares about the subject. Homework is super easy. You can check your answer until all questions are right. Shouldn't get below a 90 on homework. 5 tests, the lowest score dropped, 2 attempts per test. Look over notes and practice tests before and should be fine.
Dr. Mann is a great professor. His lectures are clear and straightforward though they can be boring sometimes. His homework assignments are fair and helpful, and his exams includes the exact concepts as the practice exams but with different numbers. He drops the lowest exam of the 5 and lowest 2 homework assignments. Put in the workA!
Christopher Mann is the premier choice for introductory economics classes. He is exceptionally well-versed in economics and is quick on his feet answering questions. HW is minimal, but attending lectures is very important though not required. Study a few days before exams and do the practice quizzes for each chapter! Those questions end up on exams
This is my second class w Prof. Mann, and I still highly recommend! You only have to watch the lectures, do a few easy HW assignments, and 5 exams. The lowest two HW grades and lowest exam are dropped. What I do is try my best on the first 4 exams, then I don't have to take the final. Easy & straight forward curriculum.
Lectures are not helpful as they have no structure to them at all. Just draws graphs the whole time and explains but is hard to follow and relate to what questions would be. Tests are really hard.
Good teacher because he is very nice and willing to help students out. His lectures are a little hard to follow past the first couple of chapters (which are review if youve ever taken economics before). Definitely go to class even though he posts the lectures online, it really helps. The exams have random questions on them sometimes.
He's the man! Exams are worth 80% of your grade but don't worry you can take them twice and are on respondus with a 2 day time frame to take them at your convenience. 5 exams and lowest one drops! Homework is worth 20% and there are about 1-2 assignments a week. Studying your notes and studying the practice exams prepares you well for the exams.
Great professor, lectures can be a little dry at times but it's obvious he really cares about the subject. Tests are very similar to homework and practice test and you get two tries to take them.
One of the worst class experiences I have ever had. The assignments frequently cover material that is not discussed in class, and many of them have issues with the grading systems as well. He does not do an effective job of teaching anything, he just reads notes in lectures. The only plus is that his grading system is fairly lenient.
Taking econ 211/212 with Prof Mann has its ups and downs. His lectures are a bit boring but important (the posts the videos online too which is so helpful for review before tests). You have 2 attempts at tests and he drops the lowest overall exam and homework assignment. I'm not an econ person, but I do somewhat enjoy this class.
211 with him is good and bad. His lectures are boring, yet beneficial if you can pay attention. His exams can be really difficult sometimes, but you get two attempts to take them. He also allows you to drop one exam including the final. I recommend you take him if you can stay motivated enough to sit through the lectures.
Macro is such a tough class; and if you do not read the textbook, class could be very difficult. Go to the TA's hours and review sessions. Lectures can be very dry at times, or even difficult to follow. Tests are something like 75% of your grade. Tests are 50 questions and are pretty tough. But Professor Mann offers practice quizzes, which help.
Always willing to talk to you over email or after class if you have questions. The material in the class can be a little challenging but if you study well it shouldn't be hard to pass. Test heavy but the lowest one gets dropped. Start early on course paper!
It's an online textbook/homework system-heavy class, but the lectures aren't terrible at all. The grading system is also pretty lax, with your lowest exam and homework grades getting dropped. My only complaint is that the lectures kinda feel like he's teaching to a room of fourth graders sometimes.
Sweet man. Relatable. Not difficult
Honestly out of all the econ professor, he is the most "easy" as you are allowed two attempts per exam and easy homework. This class was difficult and very face paced as we had exams every two weeks. Exams were the toughest, but what helped me was practice exams and TLC. The only difficult thing about his class were the exams.
Dr. Mann is alright. Lectures are very boring, but he doesn't waste your time with meaningless talking like other professors like to do. Very test heavy class, but they're all MC tests so there's that. Homework is very useless and frustrating at times but it's easy points if you do it basically. 2nd half of the semester is the hardest. Nice guy too
Mann was by far the laziest professor I have had in undergrad. He taught a 300 level course solely taken by Economics majors yet personally designed absolutely zero of the course content. Far too many tests, all out of the textbook, questions are random. The grading scale is lenient, but I'd have rather had someone who actually attempted to teach.
Professor Mann is obviously very good at what he does, however his lectures can be extremely dull at times. The class itself was fairly easy as long as you went to most of the lectures and just kept up with the exam dates and homework too. The exams can be a bit tricky, but you do get a second chance if you don't like your original grade.
Prof. Mann did a great job with the summer course. My only complaint is that there was very little material to prepare for the tests. I would recommend studying a lot for the first test, because the test may actually be much easier. If you aren't willing to learn on your own. I wouldn't recommend this class
Mann teaches Stats and he explains it very well. The concepts are just difficult to understand and require extra studying but that has nothing to do with him. The class sucks but he is probably the best out of all the Stats professors. Attendance not mandatory but the lectures contain crucial information, I wouldn't recommend skipping.
Dr Mann did not teach as well as I hoped. I took statistics in high school and thought it was fairly easy. The things I learned then were coming back to me, but it was harder to understand this time around. He uses the same example over and over after giving us a new formula, which makes it easy to get lost. Go to his office as much as you need to.
Super lecture heavy talks through whole lecture and doesn't stop to see if the class understands. Easy to get lost and lose focus due to him just speaking the whole class. Most of students stopped coming to class and the ones that come are only here to take notes or aren't focused on the class. There is not a lot of interactive work.
Horrible professor, homework is worth nothing and you are marked for every wrong attempt, Tests are very hard and have nothing to do with the practice ones and are worth the main bulk of your grade. Lectures are painfully boring to sit through and are hard to understand. makes Econ way too HARD.
Prof. Mann was very lazy, a friend told him that he wasn't about to access the homework he just told him their was nothing he could do about it and gave him 0. In his lectures he goes off topic so much that we had to get through half of class in the last 4 weeks. Exams were worth 80% of you final grade& homework would mark you off for wrong answers
awful, lectures are boring and test are the bulk of the grade
requires lots of studying, luckily grades are usually rounded up at the end of the semester. you take the exams at home and homework is just a bunch of online problems. lectures posted online, but in person lectures are more helpful. he goes past time by 10-15 min every class so it sucks. overall nice but lectures were boring and didn't help much
No Exams, it's an RStudio coding calss but you can ChatGPT your way through. If you want to learn, Professor Mann is great. You get extra credit for coming to class for the in-class assignments every 2 weeks.
