He's a really interesting teacher to say the least! Seems to know his stuff very well, and provides excellent reviews before tests. There's a lot of tests, but they're more like quizes. For essays, if you can support yourself, he'll give you credit. I'd take him again, but he only teaches world rel.
At first I did not like Mr. Martinez. There were practically weekly tests. The review sheets were alright. Not all material on the sheets were on the tests. Later on during the course I started to warm up to him. Be advised, lot's of work. Not a easy A.
Besides the fact he looks like Will Ferell...he's totally awesome. He really knows his stuff.
FUNNY, WHACKY, NUTS!!!! Im Ron Burgundy, Stay classy St.Pete College
Very good teacher, knows what hes talking about. He has an artifact from every religion/tribe that ever existed! Watch out, the test review sheets get longer and longer.
he knows his stuff and has a lot of show and tell so he makes class a little bit more fun than already is, very interesting

His world religions class is like sitting through an SNL episode. He is very open-minded about every religion, and explains each one thoroughly. He passes around cool artifacts for each religion he teaches about to give you a visual aid. There are tests each week, but he gives you study guides that have the exact subject on the test.
this guy rocks. if he had more classes at spc, i would definitely take them. informative, entertaining, try to take one of his classes for the sheer enjoyment of learning.
Professor Martinez is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about world religions. He teaches with enthusiasm and wants his students to learn. Tests can be difficult.
Awesome teacher! If they were all like this college would be great. Very interesting lectures. Gives good reviews. Almost everyone in the class got 100% on research paper. Allows willing to help students.
He's amazing! Very funny and is able to bring the subject more alive. He was very helpful too! Always avaliable, he was hard to reach by e-mail though. Easy grader too! I really enjoyed this class, and would like to see him teach more at SPC.
I'm currently enrolled in his class. I must say I agree with the fact that he is passionate about what he teaches which is so refreshing. I've had other world religions teachers who seem to express what I feel is too much personal opinion in the class on each religion....Martinez is all about the facts but he also makes things very interesting and
I dont know how anyone can say anything bad. We cover material and he than gives a review sheet of exactly whats on it. Tests are a JOKE! I look at the review sheet 15 mintues before the day of the test. Oh and he is hilarious. You will never fall asleep you actually wanna listen. And he looks like older Will Ferrel.
Good teacher and tests are easy if you study i gained alot of knowledge and his essay paper was a huge surprise but he tells you the first day of class 8-15 pages on any religion not hard but agrivating for me bc i dont like to write papers, funny and makes things interesting know what he is talkin about tests every week but gives review sheet
Mr. Martinez was awesome. He is so into this subject. Kind of a weirdo but in a funny way. Makes class bearable. Tests easy! Just do the review sheets and you're good to go. Make sure you do your paper. It is easier than you think. As long as you attempt to write something you'll get credit.
He's very into his subject. Tests are not difficult if you study the review sheet. Most of the test is Multiple choice and for the essay questions all he wants is an effort on your part. The Term paper seems difficult but again, all he wants is some effort. He grades it very easily. His lectures are like being in a vaudville show.
He is a very good teacher. Very funny, always had a funny comment for anything that happened in the classroom. He was difficult in the summer however, spending only 45 minutes on the entire history of Christianity then giving us a test on it the next class. The reviews cover most (but not all) of the material on his tests.
I would recommend this class to anyone. There's really nothing bad I can say about it. It was fun, easy, and interesting. Martinez is hilarious but not obnoxious, he encourages discussion but never puts students on the spot. And during each class he passes around interesting artifacts and things. Take it!
AWESOME TEACHER!! I would recommend anyone to take this class. He is really into his teaching. You do class projects, games like Jeopardy, and he brings in hands on things to show the class. He has very good notes and gives you a review sheet before the tests. There will be a lot of tests, there easy only if you study. Easy A or B! Take him!
This guy is hilarious. Tests weekly, not hard. Gives Review and posts his Powerpoints on angel. Not only that, but I could come every day before a test, 30 minutes before and he would review every single thing on the review right before the tests. Almost a paper a week, not hard. Very understanding of personal issues-Take him unless your giga-lazy.
He is, by far, the best professor I have ever had. He is enthusiastic about the subject and he keeps the class interesting. Participation is encouraged and he always takes time for questions.
Mr. Martinez gives a great class, I looked forward to his class after my A&P lecture, I could easily learn without burning my brain out. He gives a great review before tests and will even encourage you to fill in your own answer if you don't like his! He keeps everybody involved with his offbeat humor and a few in-class projects too.
Class is better than going to the comedy club, I Got an "A" and learned alot. I can say nothing bad about Mr. Martinez, He is highly intelligent, funny, and open-minded. I wish I could just hang around in his class for laughs! I hope he forgives me for griping about the work load, it?s not bad, unless you work and go to school full time, lol!
This class was such a fun class for spring semester. Had him in the morning, and he was very energetic and enthusiastic. He brought in all kinds of neat things to emphasize points from the religions. Tests aren't too bad, as long as you review the sheet. Semester paper isn't as bad as it sounds. Take Martinez, he's really awesome :)) Funny, too.
Prof. Martinez is awesome, he has a good sense of humor and isn't afraid to act rediculous to prove a point. It's not an easy A, but as long as you study the review sheet you'll be find. He grades all research papers (including final) very easy. I got 100's on all 10 papers by putting in maybe 20-30 minutes each
THIS GUY IS EVERY WHERE. He gives us notes that are like 5 pages long for every test. His notes are powerpoints and they have no sense to them. He gives us a "review sheet" that pretty much has EVERY THING that appears on the 5 pages of notes. He tells you about a test on tuesday and then by thursday u have to memorize 5 pages. study 24/7 or fail
You need to memorize 4-5 pages of notes for every test and we have like 10 tests in the class like 10 days apart from one another. Make sure you do a research paper (1,000wrds) on ANY RELIGION... do it any way you want because he doesnt even GIVE US GUIDELINES. He mentioned it once in the start of semester and never talked bout it again. Like WOW!
he gives us 75 powerpoint slides to know for the final WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
doesnt respond to emails.......EVER
one of my fav. teachers.has dry sense of humor but makes a very boring class not bad.very good at responding to you and if you have ?'s he has no problem spending the time to help you if you bother to ask if your not prepared for a test you can wait to take it if you ask the papers r a 1 to 2 page paper simple if u do the limit and they can be late
Loved this class! Those giving it a low grade are the laziest of the lazy students. He is VERY lenient about tests and papers, allowing very late turn ins. The semester paper was not bad, he is also pretty lenient about that one being late, 5 pts for every day or page off. He makes the class fun and puts it all online for you to study.
OMG!love his class!! He is soooo hilarious, and his class is great experience!study his powerpoint and you will be fine.i dont really use the book, and he is always very nice to us.
Really funny guy. No one in my class seems to give a damn, and pretty much sits there texting ... but he really couldn't make the course any easier. It's informational, if you care to get something out of it. I like his silly jokes, even if no one laughs.
online. huge load opens two days prior to midterm and final, huge paper worth 25% of grade, discussion of 200 words/unit, ppt are useless, spelling mistakes, misspoken words. Get to take tests and exams twice but hard to improve because you don't see what you got wrong and ?'s are different. seems like a nice guy in emails.
Took this class online. You get 2 chances for each test, they are a little difficult. There are posts due of 200 words. Final and midterm are only worth 10% each of your overall grade. It is the term paper that is worth a lot. Overall I enjoyed the class and would recommend it. Final/midterm are NOT proctored. Read the book and you will do fine.
This can be an easy class if you put in work. He gives you a review sheet of about 25 to 30 people or events and takes the test from that. You are allowed to write in your own answer if you do not like the one in multiple choice. Do your research paper early and make sure you do your internet papers. He makes the classroom funny. Really good guy
Mr.Martinez is a wonderful teacher. He has such great enthusiasm for his subject and he keeps the class laughing. His tests are easy if you study his reviews. the book that was required I never used. He is always willing to help you! I would recommend him to anyone!
Very good teacher, made the material interesting with stories. Tells silly jokes all the time, very witty. Overall good class, I would always look forward to going to it.
i wish i could take his class again. He is one of the best professors I've ever had!He makes the class very very interesting and makes u laugh every moment.
If you would like to take World Religion take it with this professor. He is so much fun, makes classes very interesting. You need to study but the subject is not difficult.
DO NOT take this class EARLY in the morning. It is very slow, and at times very boring. You will have A TON of powerpoints (every day that you are not taking a test). He tells jokes, but they can be corny and distracting. TEST EVERY WEEK AND A PAPER TO GO WITH IT. If you can keep up with the work then it is easy to pass, but there is A LOT of work.
If you are 18-30 yrs old and have no knowledge of other religions or better yet have no knowledge of the religion you claim to belong too, then this is the man for you. He makes statements he cannot back up when challenged. He knows everything and blows off anyone the proves him wrong. Forced to buy his book, you put money in his pocket. Bad karma!
Even at 8am, this class was engaging and interesting. Tests are pretty simple as long as you pay attention and read the chapters associated with the material. His jokes are lame and his demonstrations are a little bizarre, but he really does want his students to learn. If you're looking for a class you'll enjoy, you've found your guy.
The 40 question quizzes every week are difficult even if you read the text, the ppt, and do the reviews online, because he completely twists and changes the meaning of things to where it hardly comes close to any of the text or definitions that you are given to study. Other than that I guess he's ok.
Had him for online course. Good powerpoint slides and he was very clear on the info. Spent 4-5 hours a week on the material and ended the course with an A
Basically you take a test and write a paper on a different religion every week. A lot to memorize but if you have the time, go for it. Funny, loves puns, weird demonstrations, but he's a cool guy. I failed because I didn't do a lot of the work because of my schedule but that was totally my fault.
Multiple choice test plus 2 questions to write a paragraph about. He is hard but makes it interesting. I passed by a miracle I you have time to devote to studying then take him, if not do not.
I really enjoyed this class and the limited interaction with the instructor and other students. It was worth the study and gave me a good feeling to have completed this course. Follow the instructions, do the work, and you will pass with a good grade. There is extra credit available to kick up your grade.
He is amazing, when it comes down to the test, the week before, he will stay after with whoever needs help, and will go over the study guide and go over ever definition. Who ever stays after, they will definitely get a B or A. Just study, thats all it takes. He is the best!!! :)
Okay, Martinez is a great teacher, funny, and keeps students interested! says lame puns and talks about Meerkats often. I would recommend getting his book at the bookstore because he gets his test questions from there. The only thing i dislike is the papers due weekly, they make no sense and I feel like their not even in english!!
Prof. Martinez is the funniest, corniest professor you will ever meet. Even if you are not interested in the topic you will definitely be entertained by his teaching. The tests were difficult but he was very forgiving and easygoing about turning things in late. This was my hardest class of the semester but he gave lots of extra credit to help out.
What is the best way to learn about religions? With prof. Martinez. Besides the fact that he is respectful of all religions, he is funny and makes it super interesting. Highly recommend this class!
By far my favorite teacher, i took his class at 8am and had to wake up at 6 to get there. He is so corny and exciting it keeps you awake and interested. There are a lot of test and papers, but it is all totally doable. Lots of extra credit too. Such a funny/cheesy guy, loved the class.
He is absoluely hilarious. He made me die laughing almost everyday. He keeps learning the different religions very interesting. I loved his class.
You dont use your book what so ever. You have a paper due every week with a test. the test are fairly easy and he lets you make up the papers before the end of the semester. He is funny and for the most the class he makes it interesting. I would take him again
Awesome guy! Great sense of humor, made me laugh every class. Makes the lessons interesting, study, do you paper every week and you'll do great. He also offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. Overall, awesome teacher!! Take him!
AMAZING professor! Take him! He is super funny and his lectures are so clear he will act everything out and he wrote out textbook! He is probably the most sarcastic person on earth and always has puns. His tests are tough, but he gives a review sheet before & if you know everything on there you will pass. He also gives extra credit with every test
I really liked this teacher! just not how he taught... Very hilarious but made it confusing to what was really going on. lol I enjoyed going to class but it was a MIRACLE that I passed. I would not suggest his class. I am an A student, I never missed a class and I still got a 70 exactly.
Amazing professor! Funny in the corniest way and surely keeps you interested throughout the entire semester. The only semi annoying thing is research papers due every class meeting on what ever religion your on (not to bad, short summaries about a page long) and usually tests every week. I would take Martinez for any class, very helpful teacher.
Professor Martinez is a character, but obviously loves to teach about religions and has no bias against any. Beware of a research paper though and start right away on it, counts for 20% of total grade. Also, syllabus is the bible stick with that and reviews because if you ask for help you will be refereed right back to those and the books.
Martinez is hands down my favorite professor! I had him for World Religions, It does get stressful when you're a full-time student because you can forget your internet research papers and extra credits BUT FEAR NOT, he let's you turn them in late, thankfully, for full credit. Stay after class and he tells you what you need to know for the tests!
TAKE HIM! He's amazing and will always help you. You can tell he genuinely likes to teach and likes his students. Loveeee him and sense of humor. His tests get tough!!!!! Need to study like crazy because there's a test every week. I had him for World Religions got a B.
Very unorganized. All over the place. Goes way too quick on everything. Makes you feel like you are in a express class.
Great professor! Teaches with a lot of entertainment to keep his students interested.
Awesome Professor and very entertaining!!!! Made class very enjoyable. I passed with an A because I recorded the lectures and studied hard.
definitely made the 2 hours and 40 minutes interesting. i did get a failing grade, (although that was my fault) but I'm taking him again in the Spring and I'm actually looking forward to it!
Super energetic, really cares about subject. Get ready for puns. Excellent at explaining potentially confusing topics.
The best teacher I've ever had. I absolutely love religions now. Never a dull moment in class, he is hilarious. As long as you take notes and listen to his lectures, his class will be a piece of cake. Not much work outside of class, except internet assignments are annoying. Tests are easy except for the on on Christianity. Just pay attention
By far one of my favorite professors ever. He is absolutely hilarious yet incredibly informative, he's not too hard but not too easy. You do have to study a lot but It is a religion class so I don't know what else you expect. I learned so much in this class!
wouldn't recommend
Professor Martinez was an alright professor. Test count for 70% of your grade, paper 20% and final 10. There is a lot to memorize for his test and he gives three long essay questions (he will most likely hint during class what they will be).
Very good professor with a great sense of humor. He could be a bit weird sometimes, but I ended up learning a lot about world religions. I got an easy "A" because I put the work in. For each test, study at least 3 hours remembering everything on the powerpoints. On the test, write in answers and circle the best answer! (Like 2 attempts for each).
He's hilarious. He makes class fun, and is great at explaining ancient religions in modern metaphorical ways. Definitely recommend taking him.
Get ready to want to leave early every single class. All he does is make jokes and flip through slides that you can look at online at home. The weekly quizzes are the hardest part, and require at least three hours of study time each. 15 page research paper is also a pain. The average quiz grade was a 60.
He's a great guy and makes the lectures interesting but he gives a test every week and there is so much material to study that you feel like you can't breathe sometimes. This was my first semester and everyone I know said they've never had a teacher give so many tests. All grades are 10 tests, an 8-15 page research paper and final exam. Very hard!!
He gets off topic a lot and he's not that great at lecturing. His tests are way too close and one time he tried to teach two different religions in a class period and it was very confusing.
Kept each class interesting. Would take again.
Tests are easy. 10 Page Essay due at end of semester. In a useless class like this its quite unnecessary and takes away from studying in classes important for majors. Hes funny but it doesnt make up for the essay. Wouldnt take again.
He makes class fun, however it can feel overwhelming sometimes when there is a test almost every week but the tests are not that bad. All of his powerpoints are online and he repeats pretty much what is said in class in the religion basics textbook. Follow along in the textbook and you can for sure pass.
Professor Martinez is a good professor. He always cracks jokes and explains the material well. He wrote the textbook we use, so the powerpoints all come from that. Therefore if you read the chapter, your going to absolutely fine on tests. It is an interesting class and he is great at answering any questions you may have.
He simply gives too many tests. He is absolutely hilarious and gives very interesting lectures, but his tests are difficult. There is too much information, and because of his comedic nature it makes taking notes difficult. The class is unorganized, and the power points are mostly images. I recommend taking the class online.
Great, funny guy. Unfortunately, he makes the class unnecessarily difficult. There is a test every week, causing me to feel like I'm drowning in school work. The tests are filled with tiny details that do not seem relevant. The class is interesting, but very hard to keep up with if you have other difficult classes in your schedule. (UTampa)
Great personality and very funny guy. Theres a quiz every week. He makes jokes the entire class and isnt serious while teaching making it hard to focus during lectures then makes his quizzes very difficult and intricate. Gives many extra credit opportunities through semester but doesnt drop lowest test score bc of this.
Professor is unprofessional and gives unnecessarily long lectures, for things that arent even on the test. Wrote his own textbook, which was a complete waste of money (writes his failed classroom jokes on it). Only assignments are tests, and he doesnt even follow the actual course. Thoroughly disappointed I spent money on this class.
I took the online course and enjoyed it very much. The main portions of this class are: Discussions, 2 major Writing assignments and Quizzes all of which are impossible to fail unless you dont participate or put in forth effort . I recommend this course if you want to learn new fascinating things
I absolutely LOVED professor Martinez. His lectures were always fun and engaging. Sometimes the lectures didn't even last a third of the class period. There's a small 10 question quiz almost every week but they aren't too difficult as long as you pay attention in class. Very joyous professor, clearly loves his job and working with students.
You have to work to find due dates for assignments. Lectures are the book being read to you. The grading scale is so out of wack even if you don't do the midterm and final you can still pass with a high grade if you do the two writing assignments and some discussions. Do the work and you'll likely be fine, but as far as learning goes, good luck!
This was my first class coming back to college after 5 years. The class was very engaging, professor extremely knowledgeable and you will learn a lot. Participation encouraged and feedback provided. Office hours also give you an opportunity to discuss progress one on one. Would definitely take classes with him again!
I just started taking this course 2 weeks ago, so this may be biased. However, im hoping this review somehow reaches him in hopes of the course improving. His lectures are only reading a few sentences out of each paragraph, then shows us a video. Barely any discussion. Wish he spent time to teach and discuss with us more so we could grasp material.
Idk why there are a lot of bad reviews. I took the REL2300 class to live online for spring 2022 and I loved it. Professor Martinez is a funny guy and teaches very well by going over the textbook and providing informative videos on different religions in the lectures. There is a lot of reading and exams are not proctored. Overall, awesome teacher.
At times he would get off-topic during class, but otherwise, he would just read the textbook out loud. Even though attendance is required, the lectures weren't too important to listen to. Just pay attention to the writing guidelines, and the quizzes he gave you could easily look up. Midterm and final were not proctored either.
Professor Martinez was a very easy professor. His class was incredibly easy to pass.
He gives a lot of opportunities for course credit. He does not rely too much on tests or quiz grades. Just make sure to keep track of your due dates and keep up with the coursework, you will be fine. Just beware he does do A LOT of writing assignments.
He is amazing and he truly engages with his students, he realizes sometimes we can get bored so he make jokes to wake us up (6-8pm class) but he never makes us stay the entire two hours. This class is test heavy because there are a lot of religions you're learning but he doesn't make you take them during class time.
Professor Martinez makes his REL2300 class engaging. Lectures blend textbook content with informative videos. While there's a lot of reading, quizzes and assignments are manageable. Unstuck AI proved helpful for studying. Overall, an enjoyable and rewarding course.
I took him over the summer and we had 2 big papers throughout the semester and all the exams including the final was non proctored. Make sure you follow the rubric exactly or you will lose points on discussions.
Professor Martinez's World Religions class was so
