Dr. McAdams is a great professor. He gives hard tests, but I learned a lot in his class. I plan to take him for 1412.
Great Teacher will help you out when needed! Definitely the best teacher @ SE Campus. Tests are similar to his previous tests which he posts on the website. Just study the previous tests and you'll do fine. His lab practicals are extremely hard! Just go over his previous tests, and you'll be fine.
Professor McAdams is a really good teacher. Pretty entertaining also. His tests are extremely hard. So make sure you not only do but you also study the reviews on his website. If your looking for an easy A this is definetly NOT the class to take but if you really want to LEARN something take him!!!
he is so hard..do not take him
Took a 3 hr. class, so yes it was boring. Viewed powerpoint after powerpoint. He will explain everything, extremley helpful. Test, well they didn't relate too much on his notes, I would read the book to cover few things. Chemistry is chemistry, what more can I say?
He's a great professor. He's also funny...a very dry sense of humor. It's not an easy A, but I really learned a lot.
Mcadams is an awsume teacher that knows how to teacher! =)he will help anyone out if they have a problem understanding the material. All you have to do is do all the work and study and you'll get an easy A. He enjoys what he does and it deffinitly shows
very intelligent professor and doesn't try to impress students by giving them a hard time! he's got a sense of humor that a few really get his jokes but at least he tries to make a challenging class fun! i'd take him again if i have to!
Dr. McAdams is a fair and straightforward professor. Chem 1412 is a tough course, but Dr. McAdams makes the material clear and consice. Always availible outside of class will address a student's questions promptly. Do the book problems/problem sets, study the review, ask questions, and you'll walk with a good grade and appreciation for sig figs.
He isn't concise and he doesn't explain the concepts very well. He alwasys shows up late to class. He keeps the test in the testing center for weeks at a time. sometime the test overlap. He has his own circulum. Highly recommend not to take his class.
He's a great professor. Really funny, and his slideshows are well-animated. Definitely take his class if you have the opportunity to. He makes sure that the tests are fair and that you understand the course. Also, he doesn't make you memorize all the constants and formulas. =)
He is a great teacher! He knows how to explain the material very well. He is a pretty funny guy too. His tastes are not hard (but not that easy), only the final is a little tricky. I actually learned a lot, and its not impossible to make an A! :D
Nice guy. Helpful. Don't take this class in the summer. You will be buried. His tests are deceptive and there will be questions on things not covered in class. Thats the one thing that makes me say. Take another professor. I've never worked so hard for the grade I got in my life. GPA killer.
Very Good prof. Very fair in grading and sometimes funny. 4 exams and one final(one chap only). Just practice questions in book and online hwk. some questions are repeat on test. responds very quick to students. lab quizes at begin every lab. but easy once u understand his style of question. CHEM is not hard but just takes practice and he's helpful
McAdams was always helpful outside of class, and always eager to answer any questions. His tests (department tests) can be tricky and deceptive. I studied my butt off and only got a B because of the tests. Online HW and in class participation helped my grade a lot. Come to class everyday and do your HW and he will probably work with you.
OMG! Do NOT ever take chem during a shorter semester! It will kill u! I took chem over the winter term (bc I literally had no other option)n of course it sucked! Mcadams tried his best not 2 lose his mind himself! I hated chem-still do-but Mcadams was pretty cool. I understood enough 2 get a B n I happily accepted it! Hard class but cool teacher.
The best chemistry teacher ever..
Let's face it, it's Chemistry. McAdams does a good job of explaining it and taking you through examples, but if you don't study it and practice it you're not going to do well. Chemistry is not logical! Only real complaint, and it's not against McAdams, is the homework assignments are computerized. Not a fan! Totally recommend taking him!
Great professor. He really wants you to do well and understand it. Go to class, study his lecture notes, do the homework, practice the problems you work in class, study the lab exercise before you go to lab and you will do good.
Just finished his course, Got an A. Let me tell you the truth about him. No need FOR TEXtbobk! So Dont buy, i didnt have one. Do and Practice Homework, Listen in Class, Do good in Lab, Your FINE! If you would calculate the grade, you only need a 84 average in the 5 exam to get an A! (with 93 average lab grade, 100 on hw and the other one.)
I loved Chem 1411 (with another professor), however I hated 1412. I took McAdams' 3 hr lecture, 1 day a week course, which I highly advice against. It is difficult sitting through the entire lecture, and harder to space out homework assignments. McAdams' lectures are not interesting and he does not always adequately cover material on exams.
His lectures are long and he talks really fast. You definitely have to be familiar to take his class or you will fall behind. No test review and lots of online homework. Would not recommend if you actually need to Learn Chemistry. He expects you to be familiar with most information.
He is a pretty good professor. His jokes are not funny( he tries his best to relate chemistry and make every one active). Lots of online homework where the developers don't even show you how to work the problem even after making wrong answers. >:(. He definitely expects you to know prereq chemistry info offhand.
He?s a great professor! I took his wintermester class which went crazy fast. The online homework takes up a lot of time but does help in preparing you for the tests. Labs I found to be easy and enjoyable. The text book is not required all though the class says it is. Attendance is mandatory! With good study habits you can make an A.
McAdams really knows his stuff. He's not super friendly right away but he is always willing to help. I thought he was so funny but I enjoy really cheesy jokes. I will warn you though, his time management skills are not the best. If you have an interest in chemistry you will really enjoy him.
He's very good one. He explains everything clearly and neatly, provides everything you need for test.
Great Professor. His tests are easy, even though sometimes there are some crazy questions about insignificant information I never pay attention to. To some tests he kindly gives a list of formulas you need. The hardest part is to sit through his long lecture class. He explains a lot of problems and never let you go earlier.
Tough professsor.
Worst prof ever!! Does not update you on progress in class till the end of the semester or a week before finals. Tests do not reflect what you study in class.
Prof. McAdams is Awesome...he's really smart and loves chemistry. He always has nerdy chem jokes to tell us and fun chemistry facts in his ppts that help when studying. He gives plenty of practice in problems and a lot of the time they are the same as the HW.
It's not an easy class, but it's fair. With just a bit of effort you can do well. I never read the book but I paid attention @ lecture & did most hw. Took for summer I--LONG lectures. For the most part he held my attention, he's very good explaining, gives practice problems in class. Study these, and you'll ace the tests. He's approachable!
Very hard teacher, all his tests are a word games. According to my GRE (1500)score I am ready for graduate school but I was not able to get a B on the class.
DON'T EVER TAKE IT IN WINTERMESTER- The biggest mistake I ever made. He input the grades 1 day before the final and didn't even remind us of the drop date. You're on your own after he gives you the syllabus. Great teacher- however, the pace is ridiculously fast. That is an understatement. If you=a slow learner, good luck taking it fast track.Ha.
he is easy if you pay attention in class
He's really nice and willing to help students. He's also point out the important ideal that you have to know. Even though I'm foreigner, I still understand him clearly. Anyway, I love his class. But you should think carefully before you take his class, because his test require that you have to know the materials well.
If you have a strong science background and will not need any intruction he is the professor for you. If you need someone to actually teach you information that you have reviewed in the text and other lit. find someone else. He is not a bad person, probably an excellent chemist but a terrible communicator of the subject matter.
I took this class over the winter break. It was really fast paced, but Dr. McAdams was so helpful and really explained things well. He's a great teacher and really good at communicating the subject. Overall a really amazing experience in the 3 week course! :)
He was a great teacher. Just make sure you actually study and stay on top of your game. Don't do things last minute because that is what i did and i got a C. I would recommend taking him if you need to take chemistry
Lectures are extra long he uses every minute of it lol. Hes a great lecturer and gets you the info you need. However, tests are a bit tricky at times. Chem 2 is just hard, harder than OChem i believe b/c of all the math. Its not his fault that the tests are hard b/c the concepts are difficult so studying is key. Good teacher took him in summer 1!
I took him for the first time for chem 1411 wintermester. He's such a great professor that I took him again for chem 1412 and ochem. You can really tell he loves chemistry and he teaches all year round from winter to summer to fast track during the regular school year. Chemistry is a tough subject so it's not an "easy A" but it's a "manageable A"
I took McAdams over the summer. He is clear and always willing to clarify any topics. Although there is a lot of homework, they prepare you for the exam. In order to succeed in this class, do the extra problem sets, review homework, and understand lecture notes. Some questions on the extra problem sets appear on exams. Textbook is not neccessary!
I took Prof. McAdams over the wintermester. It was literally the most fast paced and stressful thing I had ever done but he was awesome. He always clearly explained concepts, made sure everyone understood and was an interactive class. He was great!! Take him!!
I took Prof. McAdams for Ochem 1 and Ochem 2 he is a great professor, but you have to study a lot because chemistry all in all it is a science class, and requires a lot of effort to be put in. Don not expect miracles. However, on the tests he will give lots of extra points in order to get a better grade. If you study you will make it.
Great Professor! The best on at Northlake. Highly recommend Dr. McAdams he presents the course in a very organized fashion which allows students to learn easily. Very helpful and friendly.
he is really a nice professor. his lectures are long and exams are not that hard but you should know what you are doing in class. if you listen to him in class and study little bit you will be fine in your tests. he helps students and is caring too
Stop researching professors! This is your guy! Trust me; you will like how the exams are set up and he is a great lecturer. If you put in the effort and don't fall behind an A is very doable. Take Dr. McAdams!!
Exams do not resemble material learned in class. Email communication is non existent. Classic example of making an easy class challenging. Teaching style hard to understand and mundane. I recommend someone else for this class.
Decent class and testing but email communication is horrible. Professor claims to care about his students but the only way to communicate with him is in person. Did not receive any feedback when trying to ask questions or ask about assignments. I regret taking this class and recommend you find someone who actually communicates with students.
He is one of the best professor out there. I took Fast track that covered chem 1411 and 1412 in single semester. He made it really easy. He make sure u understand his lectures. Exams are not that hard but one has to study. He is so friendly and caring.
Dr McAdams is a real gem when it comes to chemistry professors. from his lectures you can easily tell he enjoys chemistry and his sense of humor really helps the learning process. textbooks aren't a must since for the tests all I studied were the power points and the problems we did in class.
Pros: Knows what he's talking about, final replaces lowest grade, all homework on Mastering Chemistry and they're all easy A's, Labs are all easy A's as long as you study before hand. Cons: Puts in grades last minute, tests are extremely difficult and don't always reflect review, long lectures that go after class time. (Took this in the summer)
Organic chemistry, by it's nature is not going to be easy. That said, Dr. McAdams is among the best professors I've ever had in any subject. He does everything he can to teach you trends first to help you assimilate the reasoning before asking you to master wrote memorization. He's also a funny, personable man who really does care for his students.
Took McAdams for Organic Chem 2423 fall 2017, explained things, multiple examples upon request, test extremely hard, grades attendance, does not grade until the end, Students wanted to drop but he said not to he would tell us where we were at but still never put grades in, class ended 12-6 and we just received our grade 12-18. Have to retake class
Great teacher. He likes demos and class participation. However, he doesn't answer emails.
Dr. McAdams is one of the smartest professors I have ever met and could teach 4th graders Chemistry. The difficulty of this course is in the content itself, but studying
Dr McAdams is the best professor for org 1 and 2. He is super smart and knows his stuff, but can really explain chem which is sorely needed in organic. Lectures are excellent and he wants you to do well. If you study you will make it.
Professor McAdams is a real gem. He really knows what he is talking about. Makes chemistry easy. I would recommend everyone to take him. Study a bit outside, you will be fine.
dont take him. just dont. save yourself please.
Dr. McAdams can sometimes make learning chemistry entertaining and interesting. Yet, I always felt exhausted after most of his lectures. The lab is crucial as well. There are chances to earn extra points on tests and he gives out practice questions for them, but unless you attend class and do the homework, it will be difficult to get a good grade.
HE IS THE GREATEST!!! JUST DO YOUR WORK AND KEEP UP WITH LECTURES AND YOU WILL DEFINITELY MAKE AN A. Taking him for organic chemistry 2.
Dr. McAdams was a great professor, but this class was extremely difficult. I made a C on three of the exams but because of participation, homework, and lab grades, I still managed to get an A. Come to class because he works out lots of helpful practice problems. He is also hilarious and loves his students.
He is the best professor I have had in all college. He is hilarious and makes de class go by. He explains everything in a way that students can understand easier. I took him for Summer 1 semester and Im glad he was my teacher. The class its hard but with a great professor you will get a good grade.
Dr. McAdams was extremely helpful! Lectures were clear and engaging! It is a lot of work but you are given all the tools you need to be successful. Practice the class problems and the problem sets for additional support prior to test. Focus during his lectures and be an active listener. He made chemistry super straightforward and clear!
Organic Chemistry isn't easy but Prof. McAdams pulls in-class assignments straight from what he teaches in class and can be used for the H.W. Exams are fully based on the in-class assignments and online HW.
Professor McAdams stepped up to the plate during COVID, making his entire curriculum and prerecorded lectures fully accessible online. His lectures are thorough enough that I didn't have to ask any questions to him directly, and you can hear in his voice and the content of his lectures that he cares. Makes me wish I got to meet him in person
Professor McAdams gives detailed lectures and seems like a friendly person. However, he is impossible to get in contact with. His listed exam dates were wrong for most tests (never answered emails for clarification), his syllabus had substantial errors, he posted lectures a day or two before the exam was due, etc. Not good setup for covid times.
This professor is very nice, he even allowed alot of people to take exams later. However, he is very organized and sporadic in uploading assignments. He does not really follow the syllabus or scheduled time for test. He is very bad at uploading grades as well. I would only advise to take his class if you do not have a heavy course schedule.
Prof. McAdams provided great lectures which help with hwk and tests. However, he is very disorganized. The lab portion was pretty simple, but it was not graded until the last day of class. Also, your final grade relies heavily on exams. Very hard to reach too, rarely responds to emails. Final is optional and if taken, drops your lowest grade.
He is very nice and caring. He really knows Chemistry and he makes the most amazing lecture videos. I watched each video several times, which really helped me with understanding the content. Not always good with emails, but he is always available during his virtual office hours. Slow with grading, but he gives plenty of bonus points. Very doable A!
He made me like chemistry! Lectures are detailed & helpful, but also can take a long time. The online homework was incredibly helpful. Also do the extra practice questions he offers--lots are on the test. Didn't need to read the textbook ever, just watched lectures. Doesn't respond to emails but has consistent office hours. I went almost every day!
In covid had clear lectures which lots of professors lack. took 8 week, lots of work but doable. 5 test 6th opt. hw in my chemistry. Labs easy, lab quiz 5 questions got me but nothing bad. has a review packet, In class assignment in lect, hw all help for test. Have a question got to office hrs. He is more than willing to help. wish he taught 1412.
Does not expect you to show up to lecture every day but lab is MANDATORY. I took ochem before at another University (I got a B) but the way McAdams teaches it, is way better Tips:Review the recorded lectures-Follow the worksheets -Study before the lab quiz- *you wont know your grade until the last two weeks, slow grader
He is the best chemistry professor I have ever had. His lectures are very clear, he also provides exercises in class so you can practice while you learn the topics.
Took Professor MCADAMS for both OCHEM 1 and 2. He is overall a great guy and I enjoyed his class. OCHEM is naturally tough, but he uploads many resources to help us understand the material, including online lectures aside from the lectures in class. You have to put in the effort, but it is not a tough class.
I took his class on 2020. His class was long when it came to lectures. Of course, this was during the pandemic. He is a great professor! You really need to put in effort to do well in this course. I was not great in recalling my studies, but I know I could have performed better. He sometimes do not reply to emails on time, so keep sending emails.
took this for summer 1 and it was a difficult course because of everything we had to learn. He makes sure you understand and if you have any questions he will help you. there are lab quizzes every day and 6 tests there is also a group project. do the work. and you will pass. you will receive credit if you turn something in late.
The professor gives very heavy test materials and lectures. Labs are mandatory however lectures are not. For 8-week unperson classes you will have to stay in class for 6 hours. somehow I felt differentiated made fun of and unhealed during the class. He would sit using his phone all the time during lab and seemed unhelpful.
One of the best prof. at NLC. Insanely knowledgeable and translates so well into his lectures which are long but understandable & digestible. Tests/homework are well spread-out so it doesn't feel like too much (I took 16 weeks). Very nice and helpful, takes the time to make sure his students understand the concepts. Very kind, 10/10 recommend!
Dr. McAdams is a t
Dr. McAdams is a wonderful professor. He cares about his students and is obviously passionate about Chemistry. What a hard class to teach, Organic Chemistry, and he makes it fun to learn about. His Youtube channel is a lifesaver, ChemicalArts. I didn't do as well as hoped, but he made me want to succeed just to show how great of a teacher he is.
our rating could be removed if you use profanity or derogatory terms.
Absolutely take him for o-chem. 6 tests, but well spread out, and multiple choice which helps a LOT. He also gives a take home free response which really boosts your grade. Even if you get a B/C on MC, can still make an A. O-chem is heavy on content, but he gives a lot of great examples. Very caring.
I've been taking his class since CHEM 1412 and he is amazing which is why I've taken his class since. Yes there is a big workload, but it's chemistry and that should already be expected. If you have questions, he will explain it. Everything for his class is very well-organized and everything you need to know about the class is on the syllabus.
