He is a fuuny maths professor I have met,and his class is easy.
This professor gives alot of homework when compared to other professors. He gives less points for being at the M.A.R.C then other prof. and he dosent prepare students for factoring in Math 71! Their are better Prof. @ this College!!
He is the best professor i've ever had!I was terrible at math, till I took a course with Mcdonald.Since then, I have taken him for all my math classes. I am getting an A in his class.
Terrible teacher! I fell asleep in his class every day. Always went off talking about advanced calculas.
Had this professor for 3 semesters for 3 different classes. He is very clear and helpful. Outshines most of the math professors at cal state colleges.
He is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He explains everything clearly and makes math fun.
hoho~ very fun teacher, makes people fun, people should take him, because he's relly fun guy
He is one of the best math professor in MTSAC for real. Word.
He does a good job of explaining the material. The exams aren't too hard, you just need to study and know your material. Recommended math professor.
Lots of homework, but gives quizes that are very similar to test. Cool guy, likes to keep it fun and is a pretty good Jamaican Rapper.
He's pretty cool and can even be funny sometimes. He teaches pretty well, but he leaves a lot of hw. Maybe it was because i took him over summer, but you'll get hw from him regardless.
He really cares about his students and wants them to be successful. He is often very funny and is very good at explaining the material. He gives a little too much home work though.
He is a very good teacher and overall a nice guy. He loves cars and motorcycles and will sometimes get off track to tell funny stories. He gives good reviews for tests and quizzes.
The test is very hard!!Even a c is very hard to get !
He is the best!
Not very easy, but if you study and pay attention you can do well!
He is very funny and a very good teacher. You have to work very hard for an A. He is very good at explaining word problems. He does give a lot of homework but he covers almost everything you need to do the homework in class.
He tells the funniest stories about getting injured in the gym. I like Chris. He is a very good teacher and is really hot. Those who don’t like working hard beware. His tests are fair (from notes) but difficult and he collects homework.
He's a very good teacher. He makes sure we know our theorems and definitions. My other math teachers i've had before never made sure we understood the theorems, so that's why I like Chris(even though he marked my T/F question wrong when it was right according to the book!)I know you're reading this.
Good teacher! His teaching is very straight foward and clear. One of the best math teachers I've had so far.
He is a funny guy, and he is a good math teacher. u can learn a lot in his class, however u have to study a little bit hard in his class to get A.
terrible teacher...:)
Very good teacher but its hard to get an A. I recommend him if you want to learn and have time to do all the homework
Very nice guy. Simetimes funny. Good teacher
he is a nice and funny..lot of homeworks..it's not easy to get A in his class, u have to work really really hard for it..but u will learn real math with him..
GOOD TEACHER, A LOT OF EXAMPLE. GREAT STUDY GUIDE. FUNNY AND NICE. VERY HELPFUL
This is the coolest dude alive!!!! Great math teacher. Clear, smooth lectures. Tells funny stories at the beginning of class. I recommend him for math 180, and Prof. Frank Tran for math 181 and higher!!!!!
Teaches too fast! Take him if you want to be singled out and embarassed in class. He collects homework everyday, and grades tough on his tests. Take him if you want to hear him whine about his elbow injuries in class....I would not recommend him!!
HE WAS VERY UNHELPFUL. HE HAS FAVORITE STUDENTS AND IT'S FAIRLY OBVIOUS. HE DOES OFFER EXTRA CREDIT POINTS BUT NOT MANY. HE DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE TO MUCH ABOUT ALL STUDENTS BECAUSE HE HARDLY ASKS IF THE CLASS HAS ANY QUESTIONS. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE. HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN.
Very good teacher. If you want to learn you should definitely take him. Some people complain that the tests are hard but he gives good reviews.
He makes the class every easy and his teaching method is very easy to understand. Goes over things again so that everyone can understand.
very good teacher. very funny. he will pick on you for not doing homework. poor Ed.
I think he's the only calculus teacher that gives T/F questions on tests. He explains the material very well. His tests aren't that bad, you just have to study his notes and the T/F questions at the end of each chapter. I got an A...haha
He was clear as he explained the work but he did not go back and answer questions about homework. So make sure you understand the homework. The study guides he provided were very helpful. The extra credit from the marc didn't make a difference for me, so that was discouraging.
Chris is a cool dude.He gives us T/F questions, proofs, and teaches us some theory. The tests and quizzes are easy...haha.As long as u study the T/F questions, proofs, notes, homework problems, practice more problems(even numbers from book), chapter review, read the sections notes, then you'll get an A. J/K.U can study the notes, and you'll do fine.
Good teacher. Cares about students
All his exams comes from his notes and review! what more can you ask for. He makes sure you can understand the problems. He is a teacher everyone must take.
good teacher
He knwos his stuff. He does hard problems in class and then puts them on the test. You have to do lots of homework but you will learn a lot.
He was challenging and has a sense of humor. If you worked all the problems he gives you on the review you will do well in his class because they show up again on the test, some problem that shows up I already had it memorized cause he goes through it so many times.
Best math teacher i had at Mt. SAC. very clear on what he wants you to know and explains things very well. tests are fairly hard but not bad if you do the homework and look over the review sheets. i highly recommend him for a summer class since he organizes the class time effectively.
Chris is a cool professor, funny guy looks liike eddie murphy in coming to america. Teaches well and explains clearly. Collects hw but 4 ur own good. Test are fair, all depends on u if u practice ur math.
Even though u don't know the answer, try your best to answer them, he gives out some par credits. i got a B. and memorize his study guide
He was okay and kept the class interesting. BUT, he really doesn't go the extra mile so it might be hard for students who haven't taken math in a long time. I had to go get extra help and work with my classmates to understand certain topics he didn't cover that were given for HW and such.
his class is fun. he reviews everyday and his tests look like the stuff in notes and the reveiw. if you do the homework and study the reveiw sheets you will be ready for the tests.
clear examples on the board, effective group discussions which are highly recommended, not too much pressure since no quiz and only daily assignment, 2 exams and a final in summer class...... if you pay attention to class, do your assignment on time, participate in the group discussions, then you don't have to study for the exams!! I mean it!!
Give us more proofs and applications!
The class was fun. He is a great teacher. If you do homework and study definitions and identities you will do fine.
Lots of homework and goes over alot of the problems very detailed but it is worth it! Go to class everyday and study his lecture notes and you should do good in the class. All of the stuff that he goes over in class will be used in his quizzes and tests. He does not put in trick questions.

He is a great teacher. I took his class twice and he was fun both semesters. He had lots of homework but usually assigns the odd problems which are in the back of the book. before a test he'll make sure you're prepared by giving you a sample test which you do in groups. He's a great teacher...take him and you WON'T regret it.
helpful buit sometimes boring
Mr. Mc Donald is the best damn math teacher i have had so far. he is also the biggest nerd but thats wat kept me going!! :)
He is a good teacher and it is easy to understand math because he uses real world situations.
He took the time to get to know everyones name and explains the material very clearly. I hated math before I took his class, now I actually like it....awesome teacher
hes an awesome teacher very good at explaining your objection.
this guy REALLY tried to help me out he's great. -kaisa-
You can pass his class with flying colors as long as you do your work.
Had him for summer, he gives a study guide telling you almost exactly what is going to be on the test. You can just **** your homework. Just try to follow allong in class and you should do fine.
very clear and thorough. also funny
He's a really good teacher. He explains problems clearly. The test are sometimes tricky, you just have to study your notes and handouts. He always has a smile and is ready to teach. He's funny and messes around with you, but easily gets back to business. You usually work in groups which is helpful. I recommend him.
This guy is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He makes things much simpler than they are, and the class isnt boring at all. I recommend him to anyone.
He is an awesome teacher, however, he does baby you... so its step by step. Good class to learn your math.
very clear and effective
Very good teacher. test are difficult. He will force you to learn.
He is nice, fun, such a super good teacher! He teaches step by step and it's very clear to understand.
ne of the beast calc teacher. He make you do proofs and T/F that make you think. He got pissed off at the class because people were cheating so he took it out on the rest of us and made the last quiz and final really hard. I still got a B becaue he really makes you learn. Don't take him if you are a border line student.
Overall okay teacher. Tomayo is better though. Kind of rough and brutal on quizzes and exams with T/F questions. Unfair because he took it out on the rest of the class when 3 people in class cheated. Doesn't allow index cards during tests or a study sheet. Tomayo Power!!!
very clear and helpful, best teacher for learning. Quiz is hard because of the ridiculous numbers he put on, but it is easy if you understand it. He got mad because 3 people cheated, but it was nothing like the last guy said, because the Final was all about easy problems and things in the notes.
I woulnd't take him, I don't doubt his knowledge of math, but He sucks at teaching. He does not know how to relate to students to allow them to understand the material, I never took math71, and its been awhile, i asked for help but he just makes fun of you. DAVE CHAPELL look a like too. DO NOT TAKE
He's really clear on explaining questions. if you take good notes and understand the examples he gives you, you should be able to get a B on the tests. And he's really funny, you won't fall asleep. Nice guy too.
Awsome teacher. He reviews everyday. I recomend him to all my firends.
Very nice person, gave a SHOEI to a student. :)But math teacher, was very not so easy. He deducts points for every little mistke. Even if you forget to circle ur answer. Also His TRUE/FALSE test questions are hard.HE also throws in DEFINITIONS! you better study the book key terms. Dont take him unless ur a NERD, no life, becuz u need alot of time
had him for 130 during the summer easy class. he is teacher by day and rapper by night. Take him u will get an A and u will hear him rap too. he is also easy to follow and clarify anything u want him to. Personally i got an A. however, i am good at MATH but from all the teacher that teach it i recommend him.
He is a very good teacher. You need to study allot because the tests are difficult
He is a good teacher that clearly shows you how to do each problem. He's test aren't hard if you are familiar with all his worksheet. HIGHLY RECOMMAND!
The subject is difficult but he does a good job teaching it. Hard to get an A because on the quizes and tests but easy to pass if you do all the hw, pay attention, and want to learn. Class goes by fast so really be on top of things. Take good notes and that'll help a lot on the hw and tests.
He's a great teacher. He has wonderful teaching skills. I'm not a math person, but I like his class. If you take his class, you might start to like math like me.
Very good teacher if you want to learn. Homework is 3-4 hours a week tops. He does a good job of making a boring class relativly intersesting.
He made this class really easy. All you have to do is just take notes and do all the hw & projects he assigns. The projects are simple and short too. Usually all the examples he gives in the notes covers all your hw questions. He tells u what to study for on tests/quizzes. He does throw in a few vocab questions, and he checks this site alot.
the guy puts definitions on his exams which are lame. And I have seen him give attitudes to students.
Chris is a good teacher because he's patient and his tests are pretty easy if you do the homework. However, he sometimes makes inappropriate comments like about how no matter what, my friend's answer was wrong and mine was right because I was #1 in the class. Also, he talks too much about his personal life; he comes off as a bit of a jerk.
I am not a math person at all and i got an A. McDonald does an amazing job of teaching at your level and takes the time to make sure you understand the text and his own problems, also he gives reviews pretty similar to the tests... highly recommend
highly recommend Mr. MCDonald. He makes algebra problems seem easy to solve. i always look forward on going to his class :)
Well, I was scare of taking statistics because almost all the people that i knowed failed the class. But if you take Mr. Mcdonald you are going to loved the class and is also really easy, you only need to do the worksheets and projects and review the worksheets for the test and you do fine.
I would have to recommend that you not take him. The reason people like him is that he lets the class out early. I did not learn anything in this class.
I recommend this professor he does a great job of making math understandable at any level. The tests & exams were reasonable, actually easy. He gives studyguides, so ONLY an Idiot could fail!! If he were teaching math 71, i'd definately take him again!!
very good.
This man seems bent on causing students grief. Took him for Summer Session and it wasn't a cakewalk. He doesn't review over homework so make sure you're on top of it. His study guides didn't cover everything he tested so it was somewhat useless. To his credit, he's a good professor that challenges you. Don't expect to be spoon fed.
Math can be a daunting subject especially Pre.Calc. Prof. McDonald is a jokester that likes to give you the ugliest of problems all for your benefit. I highly recommend him if you like a challenge.
If you are planning to take calculus, he is the one to go for. He is not easy but very clear and organized. Kinda kawky but I think that is the part of his personality. Overall a great teacher and prepares u for calc. Not an easy A(especially in summer) but soem hardwork will see u thru! Do his homework and recaps!

Although, the class is pretty hard since he is pretty strict..he is actually the best teacher I have had...he is very organized which makes it so easy to understand...he gives really good examples which helps alot because it's not a mix up...he is pretty fun but keeps his word..be prepared to work
He is a great math teacher. He makes it easy to learn new lessons and formulas because he explains it very clearly and shows great examples. He does give alot of homework but thats expected. He is also very entertaining and doesn't follow the book.
Chris is a really cool guy & nice too. At first, I wasn't able to understand Stats. But the way Chris did I was able to comprend it! The exams were kinda difficult, but just study notes, do hw, & the projects. You'll be fine! Chris is really smart too. (yeah i threw that in bc he reads this stuff :P)
funny, patient, and easy
in order to do well in his class you have to stay on top of things. make sure you do your homework and get connected with classmates cause he doesn't go over it. also STUDY for tests. math has always come easy to me, but this is the first class i had to try in. Mr. McDonald's favorite thing to do is "cause you grief." seriously. he's nice though.
HA! I like that he has the gusto to put up his picture. This guy is a good professor, you just need to be a good student. I had good math professors before but this guy challenged me on higher level. He will prepare you for higher math if thats the course you have to go. Daily recaps, reviews for the tests, and he explains hard problems.Take him!
Heis a great teacher, I had him in for other Math classes and recommend him highly. Unlike other teachers, this one actually care. He is a grade A teacher.
He is a great teacher, I had him before for other Math classes and I really enjoy his class. He is funny and ver understanding, he is avaiable if you need the help.
funny teacher, i like his grading rubric its out of 600. nothing fancy straight to the point. he is good at teaching math. i was worried i wasnt going to pass but you need to take the initiative to ask him and hell explain the problems, and he does it well. take him, hes nice!
very good teacher. i would take him again for math. i wish he would go over homework though.
This professor is the best. He assigns and collects Homework but it isnt very much and it helps your grade. he offers a couple of extra credit opportunties and his tests arent tricky they are alwasys about how you got the problem. if you mess up on the math but still have the idea he will still give you points.attendance is kinda important to pass
It was really good experience taking his class! You learn a lot of materials if you pay attention and do all your homework! Tests are mostly from the last review before the test. He's awesome teacher!
I do not feel he is there for the students. He told students that summer means A grades are unlikey. He does not encourage students. He checks(no grade)homework while students work in groups. He does not check group progress. The first exam had new material=multiple F's and a lot of drops. After that test, students were told next tests would be ok.
This guy is a really good teacher. The only reason I got a B is because I slacked off in the middle of the semester. His lectures are perfectly clear. Those that struggled in my class were the ones that didn't know their material from previous math classes, I admit I forgot some things too, we all do, but if you forgot you should be relearning it.
I don't know~ been to his class for 2 weeks and then dropped the class. That two weeks material wasn't as hard so it was kind of enjoying myself for being in his class. The wya he teaches doesn't make me feel sleepy and whatnot. I'd say if you ever take MATH180, pick him as your teacher.
It's my first time taking a course at local cc and needless to say this professional is the best. He does a great job covering all materials as far as problems solving strategically and other handy tips for word problems thinking. I definitely recommend this professor for any math courses if you are planning one in the near future.
Easy to understand lectures, doing the hw just confirms your own understanding. Summer course was fast, so we had to keep up or he'll cause some grief and people gave up and drop the class. regular semester should be easier. it was a fun class to be in.
best math teacher at mt sac. i tried to get him for 71, but the class filled fast. I was never good at math, but i managed a B, almost an A. He may cause you some grief, but only for your benefit. take notes, and do all the hw. attend reviews. and you should get an A. if you have him you are so lucky!!!! i miss that class
Such a fun teacher! You have to go to class, take notes, and do the homework so you can pass the class. Tests are based off of class notes and homework and aren't too difficult. He is pretty funny and obviously enjoys what he does. Definitely take this class!
Trust me I'm not biased I have a B right now. He's arrogant. Ask help and he'll say hes busy coz hes the dept. chair. Wont help you if you need it. He teaches extremely clearly but he is BRUTAL when it comes to test/quizzes. He'll give you a review but it covers abt. 30% of the exam the most. You need to know everything to succeed. Dont take him.
I wrote the previous rating. I bumped his easiness to a 2. Here's a hint when taking him: study EVERYTHING from his NOTES, RECAPS, QUIZZES, REVIEWS, and EXAMS. EVERYTHING. Don't bother studying homework because it's just practice. SPEND LOTS OF TIME MASTERING ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS. I got an 'A' but it was hard-earned. Good luck YOU WILL NEED IT.
Overall great at teaching. Test are hard, he purposely makes some impossible questions and the rest are from study guide/notes/handout and quiz. Only there to help students during class otherwise forget it. Little EC, ok study guide. It is a hard class and requires a lot of work, if you want to do good.
Overall good teacher. Calculus is tough for alot of people and he tries his best to help students learn the stuff. Review recap, notes, and quizzes for tests and you should be fine. Sometimes gets annoying when he laughs at the class for not doing well overall. But still one of the better prof. to take for math.
Great teacher ive ever had.it was not very easy to get an A, but his class was very helpful. If you take math181, he is the one you absolutely should have!
He is a really good prof. You have to attend class to pass, but if you go to class and take good notes, it's easy. I hate math, I took him in the winter, only missed one day, and got an A. if you do the study sheets he gives you before a quiz you'll ace it. his quizes/tests are just like the study sheets. I'm taking him for all my math.
Hella cool professor. Idk what the score is gonna come out to be for my rating of him, but i give hime a solid 5. No little chili pepper though man haha. Ill get this guy into any football game for free. MT SAC FOOTBALL ALL DAY!
Best Professor I ever had...Every student would be a fool for not taking one of his classes!!!
Professor McDonald really made me do well in class. Although, his exams are pretty tricky, but he's very helpful and cares that you do well in the class. Don't hesitate to ask for help, McDonald is always available if needed!
Excellent lectures, and a very fun guy. helpful and answers questions with clarity. expect a quiz every class meeting. tricky questions and his exams are quite hard; however, one of the best math teachers.
He is really clear with his lectures. However, he never bothers to test you on simple questions so he tests you on the most difficult problems. He does not give a lot of book homework because those problems are too easy. I learned a lot in his class; take him.
mcdonald reinstilled my confidence with math. i definitely feel ready to take on calc now. he's by no means easy, and you're gonna have to put in alot of hours studying. but, in the end you'll be a much stronger student. i got a D on my first test but made it out with a B in the class, it was a tough ride though.
I had this guy last semester. Extremely difficult professor. Goes over material far too quickly, tests are VERY tricky and hard. even if you study, you will not pass. hardly any extra credit. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Professor McDonald made me love math again. Sure, he gives hard problems but he always goes over them in class and tells you how to conquer the "beast." His lectures were never boring and I still find myself going back to what he taught when I'm in doubt now that I'm taking 180. I felt a lot more confident about going into calculus thanks to him.
He is a good teacher in math. Had to retake 71 with a new teach. (him) and he is so much better. You need to know your math, alot of things to remember. The test come from the review sheet you do every day. We did not need a textbook used thinkwell.com (I hated it but its WAY better then mymathlab.com)
This professor was very difficult. He used an online program, he just put problems on the board, gave the class 5 minutes to do it and then solve the problem on the board, that was the extent of his teaching. What I did learn was from the confusing online material. I am still very uncomfortable with the material after having taken the class :-S
Professor McDonald was not that hard. I took his math 150 class fall 2010. All I have to say is that people who failed were incompetent people..(no offense) McDonald practically gave us the answers to the quizes and test/final with materials to get you ready for them.. all anyone had to do was practice those problems and you would get a high B
(Continuing from the previous post.) I do not know if he does that to other classes but he did tell my class that he was "holding our hands" because we could not grasp the mathematical concepts and took 2 weeks on proofs. I think he was really fair and just because he did give us the answers, so just put a lot of time into it because he expects it
Take this prof!!! His clarity and ability to teach his subject make him the best math teacher at Mt. SAC. He keeps math interesting and slows down the class when needed in order to allow his students to absorb what is being taught. Just study his recaps and previous quizzes and I guarantee you will excel in his class. Extra credit is given.
Quite possibly the best math teacher here. I?m not good with math but I managed to get a B+ at the end of the semester. His study guide problems are similar to the tests. The ones that are claiming he?s hard obviously did not try. If he offered all the math classes I need, I would probably take them all.
This is as easy as it is going to get. He doesn't ask obscure questions and he clarifies the textbook material. He should write a text book because he does a much better job at explaining everything than the book.
Im taking him over this summer intersession and i must say this class is tough. He is very clear and challenges you so that you will succeed in 180.He is cool and helpful as well. Make sure you know trig and algebra well entering the class or ur prepared to study a lot. I would recommend him. He knows his stuff.
He's good.. but im in 180 and not knowing trig and algebra that well this class is killer, he expects a lot out of his students he loves and finds math fun and expects that his students feel the same but if your just trying to learn CALC and not a math major than you might not want to take his class. Hes HARD but reasonable if you have the skill
I've taken both 160 and 180 with Professor McDonald and he is an excellent math professor. The class is by no means easy, but he is extremely professional and does a good job of making the class interesting. Make sure you do the extra credit, do all homework, and study his recaps thoroughly. McDonald will test your knowledge not your memory. +++
He is the head of the math department, so he shows up right before class starts. I've taken 2 calculus classes before this one and did well in them, but this one I got a C. It is very important to him that you know trig. And (he actually says this out loud) he likes to trick his students. He likes to challenge us. Which is a bad teaching method.
Awesome math teacher, he has a good sense of humor, and he lets you know throughout the semester if you should drop in order to save your GPA. He challenges the students, and collects homework. I recommend this class, just make sure o show up and try hard!
This professor is by far the hardest class I have EVER TAKEN!!! His test are extremely hard and tricky I hated the fact that since he's the head he looks down at some students doesn't help you at all he makes you figure it out!!! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANYONE TO TAKE HIM!!!
PROS: •Gives little homework• Work in Groups occasionally •Notes are to the point •Extra Credit opportunities •Office Hours CONS: •Very Busy •Notes and Homework are inconsistent •Quickly goes through lecture •Doesn't show enough examples •Challenges you on Test/Quizzes •Have to teach yourself NOTES: •3 Quizzes/3 Exams •Head of Math Department
Took him during the winter. Great professor, when he lectures he makes things clear and explains what he's teaching very clear. He's very organized which is a plus. You won't get lost at all. He makes you work in groups. Some won't like working in groups but it helps..I wish he teaches higher level math class. Overall one of the best professor's
