Course content was pretty difficult and confusing but Chris is an awesome professor. He's great and is easily available outside of class to help guide or sort out any problems. He is understanding and approachable. We had problems due weekly and 2 Stata assignments otherwise the class is based on the quizzes and the grade is curved fairly.

This professor is excellent, the course material was challenging (at least for me) but he was very concise and helped break down problems into smaller steps, I also loved that he never spent to much time on the "proof" of formulas, focusing on the problems themselves. Quiz grading can be a bit unclear at times and cengage is awful for homework.

Extremely excellent professor! very expert in his field! Lectures and curriculum are both very well organized! Exams are very fair! Thus, for a student who is good at math, you can contribute your time on other courses. One of the best professors in UW-M

Took Professor McKelvey for both Econ 310 & Econ 410. As the other reviews say, his lectures are awesome and he posts them all online. Very good at explaining difficult concepts, and he is always open to answering questions in class. Also, very accessible outside of lecture whether it be through zoom or office hours. Great Professor!!!

Professor McKelvey is easily the best professor I've had at UW. He is always willing to meet outside of class to help and shows that he cares. You are also allowed a note card for equations on exams. Great guy, but this course is also the hardest class I've taken so try to get a study group.

Absolutely amazing job at explaining one of the hardest parts of economics. Lectures are recorded, solutions posted for everything, goes slowly and doesn't skip over anything. really really good

The best professor I have had at UW-Madison. His lectures were very clear to understand and interesting, which is a relief because the textbook is very confusing. He always responded to emails very fast when I had questions with problem sets. This could have been a brutal class with a lesser professor.

Prof. McKelvey knows his stuff. He's super caring and SUPER organized. He has a great way of tying everything down towards the end of the semester and he is frank about his expectations. He is always available via email. One con though: he does a lot of his math on slides. It would've been nice to have in-class exercises to make it interactive.

Worst econ professor ever. This is my last course in econ, and I am sure Chris is the worst econ professor I have ever met. The other econ professors care about students learning things, but Chris only care about "acting like fair professor." DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE!

McKelvey is the best professor I have had while at UW-Madison. While the content is difficult, he makes it digestible and genuinely cares about students. He is engaging, nice, and always willing to help students.

Hands down the best professor I have had at UW Madison. I actually enjoyed all of his lectures. It takes me awhile to grasp information but he explains things in a way where it makes sense right away. He's not the most generous with the partial credit on exams but you cant win em all. Seriously take his class though I'd never steer you wrong.

You can tell he is passionate about Econ and he makes things easy to understand. The only assignments besides exams are problem sets which are reasonable in difficulty and length. He outright says his exams are hard so he can see who truly understands the material, but he curves them.

I skipped most of the lectures because of my transportation situation, but honestly that was one of my biggest regrets about the semester: if I could go back I would attend every class religiously. McKelvey was super engaging and I genuinely don't know if you could ask for a better lecturer on the subject.

His econometric class is a disaster. Only about ten people will attend the class, and nobody knows what he is talking about. What I could remember is him talking about drinking alcohol, and sitting on the steps by the podium, and patting his thigh once. So strange that he has lots of good ratings on this website.
