Honestly, the greatest professor I've ever had. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps. Quizes every week (not bad if you take notes during lectures). He actually wants his students to succeed. He's very intelligent and wants you to question your beliefs. Trust me, take him. His overall personality and teaching style get an A+ in my book.
one of the best professors EVER
He is a great teacher. . He cares about the students, he's honest, and the lectures are fun. Take good notes in class and you can pass your quizzes.
Take good lecture notes and you're fine. Just review case studies from the book before the test and you're good. Easy grader, fun lectures. Midterm, final, 8-10pg paper (easy) and a few quizzes. Take him for whatever classes you can.
Awesome, awesome, awesome teacher. Lectures are fun. You will never get bored. Weekly quizzes, not bad at all. Exams aren't bad either. :)
prof. metaxas is seriously the best prof. in the polisci department. yes, he can go off topic, but even when he does they are interesting anecdotes. i learned more in his latin america and developing countries classes than any other class on campus; take good notes and you'll be fine!
AWESOME! He is reasonable, understanding, and very knowledgeable. He loves talking about Latin America (his area of study), but he will relate it back to the class. He loves talking about current political issues and making predictions. He allows for a lot of class interaction and discussion. He also doesnt make you feel stupid, if you don't know.
Metaxas is definitely the easiest teacher I had this semester. His notes are literally directly from a book. You dont even need to go to class except on quiz and test days.
BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER. literally. Lectures are fun. Straight from the book. Weekly quizzes, but when you guys are a good class, he gives clues or answers for them. Tests aren't bad at all. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!
I've had Professor Metaxas for POSC 215 and POSC 358 and he's great! His lectures are fun, fast and intriguing. He rambles often, but its somehow always relates to polisci. He never puts a students down and encourages class participation. I highly recommend him.
Professor Metaxas knows what it truly means to be a teacher. He is very sincere in wanting his students to understand the material. His "rants" are very engaging. Class was simple, weekly quizzes to help absorb the content and the exams were basically just a repeat of the quizzes. One easy paper. Final was not cumulative. LOVED going to his class.
If I had a nickel for every time he said "I'm just saying"... Metaxas is a superb teacher and knows exactly what he is doing. 1 paper, 3(?) exams, easy weekly quizzes on the week's powerpoint. If that's not a good incentive to take this class, he gives out hints during the quiz as well if he's in a good mood (he's always in a good mood). Take him!
LOVE Metaxas!!! Took him twice, he is very determined to make the class understand his lectures. I wants you to succeed, which is encouraging! His teaching style, while easy on tests, is great because you actually remember the class material, rather than CRAMMING and forgetting right after! Take Metaxas, you won't regret it.
Doesn't take attendance, but do go. Lectures are straight from the textbook and help a lot for weekly quizzes. Write down everything he says, it's useful. Very enjoyable class, tends to go off topic but it's engaging and cohesive to lectures. I highly recommend taking him. Exams are very simple if you study. 1 easy paper on topic of your choice.
One of the most modest and open-minded professors. He loves to engage students in discussion so students can further understand material. All opinions are welcomed, never are you judged. REALLY EASY class if you pay attention. 3 exams, weekly quizzes, one paper, all of which are from the book. His lectures & powerpoints really help. Recommended!
He's really a great prof. Really passionate about history. He's got a great sense of humor. He uses the book a lot. His lectures are straight from the chapters. Tests are easy if you study. Pay attention in class because he gives you answers to a few of the questions on his test. We just had one current event assignment.I like this class a lot
AWESOME TEACHER. easy A. not because of his easiness, but his clarity.
If you are looking for an easy class to take for your capstone global studies requirement look elsewhere! This class is extremely difficult compared to the 100 classes, all quizzes and exams are fill in the blank, no multiple choice at all so you have to memorize everything. He also talks way too fast so there's no way of taking good notes in class.
Contemporary Latin American Class missing contemporary Latin American issues. Barely went over any current Latin American events or issues. His notes are all audible and not well structured which make the test and quizzes more difficult. Will talk over student as they answer questions then wonder why no one is participating in class. Not for me
Go to class cause if you miss more than two you are losing notes that could potentially help you on the exam. M/C & Essay exams and six quizzes but usually just sign in's and gives you credit. Very laid back and helpful teacher. I enjoyed it :)
Very clear teacher that lets you know exactly what's going to be on the tests. All of the answers are either in the notes or in the textbook.
Attendance is "mandatroy" in that, there are random pop quizes for a significant portion of your grade (lowest score gets dropped) and he is great at breaking down the dense text books, which makes for great skim- reading later. He is always available for extra help/ clarification, and understands real life.
Very cool and down to earth professor. I am taking him again if i can. He wants you to do good on everything in his class. Textbook use is optional just because his lecture notes are sufficient. recommend him.
Really one of my favorite professors. He is very clear about his notes. He goes more in depth than the textbook so attending class can be really helpful. Relates every definition with an example in order for you to have a clear understanding of what it means. 3 M/C exams with essay, 6 easy in class quizzes, and 1 final 8 page essay. Recommended A+
One of the best professors I have encountered. Very enthusiastic helpful and respectful. Wish more professors could be like him, he's really doing his job well.
I loved Professor Metaxas! His lectures were super clear which made note taking really easy. You do not really need the book unless you miss classes. Love LOVE LOVE!!
Prof. Metaxas is the best! His lectures can seem like a lot but he gives numerous examples which makes it easy to understand subject. 6 in class "pop quiz", 2 test, and final, which he tells you what to study for. straightforward. Def! recommended
I loved this class soo much! Metaxas was an easy teacher, but he did teach me a lot about global politics. I recommend him for anyone who wants to take an easy professor and have their thoughts challenged!
He is a great teacher and has a great personality! You should take him if you have the chance. He is really good at keeping students engaged even though the material is really boring. There are 3 tests, 5 quizzes, a final paper.
Super easy-going and nice prof. Content is kind of dull but he explains it in a way that helps you make sense of it. Encourages the class to participate. Straightforward on all of his tests. Does do pop quizzes but drops lowest score. 2 midterms + 1 final + 1 easy paper. You are encourage to get the book but his notes were sufficient enough
This class is VERY boring, but he tries his best to make it interesting. There exams are not cumulative and he drops the lowest quiz score, which is great. Participation isn't required, but definitely go because you'll get all your information for the exams there.
Professor Metaxas is so awesome! His lectures are very informative and dense but they are going to save you on the midterm and the final. If you are lazy and don't expect to read chapters and take good notes, don't bother with the class. I enjoyed this class very much, his up beat energy and passion is very inspiring.
He's so chill. He starts class off with the question what's going on in the world today and begins lecturing 15 minutes into class and still lets you out early most of the time! 2 midterms and 1 final that is not cumulative. 1 final assignment that is a review of all the concepts. Fast with posting grades. Don't need to read book. Take him!
Metaxas is very eccentric in a good way- goes off on tangents all the time. Don't need to buy the book, but must attend lectures! Gives random pop quizzes- don't skip class. Tests are easy if you show up and pay attention. Take good notes. 2 midterms, and a final, 1 8pg minimum term paper. Doesn't go over term paper in class- go to office hours.
Professor Metaxas is amazing! So many of his former students have taken him again and again. he always shares his political views (which is great) without offending anybody else's. In fact, he will purposely play devil's advocate to try and get the class to have an open discussion. There are no powerpoint lectures so expect to do a lot of writing.
Book probably isn't required, as long as you take good lecture notes. He is really an easy grader, and he's a total softie when it comes to the pop quizzes. He's very likely to make exceptions. Be prepared for the ten page paper though. Very funny guy, I truly enjoyed his lectures.
Very nice guy, lectures are full of information but very long, extremely disorganized and off-the-cuff when it comes to scheduling and covering material. Quizzes are random and given at beginning of class which can be terrible for your grade if you show up late just a few times. Very long term paper with unclear grading criteria.
3 multiple choice exams which are not that easy so study, 1 final paper(10 pgs) he is clear on what he wants. 6 pop quizzes but only 5 count towards your grade and are not that hard because he gives you hints on what it's going to be about. He is a funny professor. I would take him again
laptop needed for note taking. Always hopped up on coffee and nicotine. talks the whole hr+ non-stop sometimes but he is a great speaker! 10% of lectures are entertaining 90% are fact based (but not too boring) but needed for exams. Only midterm/final/10 page term paper and 6 pop quizzes. read text before coming to class so you know whats going on
Professor was very helpful, realistic, courteous and forgiving. Lectures are robust and interesting. He allowed us to use an outdated text book to save money. He guided us with the quizzes. The exam questions can be a little tricky. He tends to push a left agenda, but it's not intolerable. He's pretty great actually.
Take good notes, show up for the quizzes and exam reviews and you won't have to buy the book... Chill professor, he tries to keep it interesting.
Chris cares about the success of his students. But the exams can be hard, definitly STUDY! No joke! I'm not a poli sci major and this was a tough class. Doesn't use powerpoint slides, he just lectures, so taking notes can be hard (bring a laptop). Idk if the textbook helps (I didn't buy it). I suggest having a study buddy in the class.
My best class this semester!!!! Never used the textbook this semester. Metaxas is the best take him you wont regret it
Definitely one of the best POSC teacher out there. Though the class is a bit tough but he tries his best to help his students to pass.
he is the best
If you ever need to take POSC 100 and actually like it, take it with Metaxas.
He is a really great professor. His exam questions are a bit tricky sometimes and he introduces a lot of material, but he turns a rather boring subject into a really fun one. I highly recommend him.
He is honesty the best Poli Sci teacher hands down. He cares about his students, the class, and about how well everything is presented. I would 100% recommend him. I only used the book as a guide for the term paper (never read it) but make sure to take detailed notes on the lecture. He does pop quizes instead of taking attendence.
Turns a boring subject into something fun, sometimes gave answers for pop quizzes, Had one paper that was due at the end of the semester. Only had to be 5 pages. Only 2 midterms and a final. No homework.
I love him
Prof Metaxas is one of my favorite professors. His lectures are engaging and interesting, and he is incredibly funny. He makes his political views very clear, but encourages and respects differing opinions. Can't wait to take his class again!
Professor Metaxas is truly one of the best lecturers in the political science department. His lectures are interesting and engaging the only downfall is that he does not have slides or written notes and tends to talk really fast. Beware he is an energizer bunny, he cannot stay still. "Come on guys. you get the idea!"
Go to class and take good notes! 2 Exams and 1 Final: He gives a study guide for each. Try not to miss class (even though attendance is not mandatory) because he gives pop quizzes (6 throughout the sem, but drops the lowest 1). Assigns one 8-page paper; go to office hours for help because he gives the best feedback. GREAT LECTURER/PERSONALITY
Go to class and take good notes! 1 midterm and 1 Final: He gives a study guide for both. Try not to miss class (even though attendance is not mandatory) because he gives pop quizzes (6 throughout the sem, but drops the lowest 1). Assigns one 10-page paper; go to office hours for help because he gives the best feedback. GREAT LECTURER/PERSONALITY
Metaxas is caring, approachable, and eccentric (the best kind of professor). Both of the courses I took with him were lecture-heavy and required thorough note-taking. Multiple-choice exams, random "pop quizzes," and one paper. He'll write a letter of rec for you if you get an A in his course, which is not difficult to do at all.
Great prof!!! The tests aren't too bad and there isn't really any outside reading because he goes through each chapter in class. He does have attendance quizzes, but is really nice and sometimes will have you just sign in on a sheet of paper for 20pts. He's caring and really wants his students to do well
best professor. take him, hes hilarious and his love of this subject makes you love it too. nicest professor alive, goes out of his way to make sure you understand everything. tells you what he needs you to do to get your A. just show up, do the reading + studying, write your paper, and you'll be fine.
Easy A.
Extremely nice and approachable. He is passionate about politics and loves to engage his students in current political events. His teaching style was a bit dry, he lectures the entire class which can become a bit boring but overall its an easy class and Metaxas is great.
Hes the sweetest professor ive ever had and he cares so much for his students and makes the class very enjoyable as you learn. Talks about current events and always gives both sides of political parties. Would take him again and again
BEST PROFESSOR!!!! Hes so adorable and knowledgeable ! ive taken him for 3 different classes and as long as you take good notes and show up to class youll do great. Hes always willing to help and gives great feedback for the paper. He always a smile on his face thats contagious.
amazing professor overall
His class is lecture heavy, and there are no powerpoints. You legit need a laptop to take notes. You can get by without reading the textbook which is a plus, but the class drags on. The professor sure knows his stuff and very opinionated, and attempts to make the tests easy. I stress attempts. The hardest part is the 10 page term paper.
The class is lecture heavy, if you have a laptop bring it and type your notes to keep up. 2 midterms, 1 final, and 1 paper. Go to class because he gives pop quizzes and that is a decent portion of your grade. Overall he is a really knowledgeable and cool professor. Go to office hours for help on the term paper, he will guide you in what he wants.
He keeps you updated with politics. Willing to assist students. Take him and you'll gain an understanding of our political system as well as needed areas of focus for its improvement.
by far my favorite professor. Class isn't the easiest due to he only has verbal lectures with no powerpoints. He has 5 pop quizzes, one paper, 2 tests and a final. Very helpful if you ask him for it and is NOT BIAS. Very open minded and respectful towards opinions. he is a character, very interesting course.
Great professor! As a student who initially had no interest in the course, he made topics so exciting. He doesn't do powerpoint or beachboard, so I strongly suggest taking notes via laptop. The textbook isn't mandatory for exams or papers, but for clarity. A midterm, final, and a 10-15 term paper. Six easy quizzes but drops the lowest one.
Professor Metaxas passion shows and makes the course enjoyable. His class is lecture heavy and he speaks fast at times so beware! He gives 10 pop quizzes but these are easy because he literally tells you what it's on before you take it. Midterm was difficult so make sure to study! One LONG term paper at the end, don't leave it till the last minute.
Really enjoyed his class! He is super knowlegable and his lectures are not boring. He always likes to add class discussions to break it up. No powerpoints and he talks really fast so I think a laptop is a must. Pop quizzes but drops the lowest one with a midterm and final. 10 page research paper. Book is really helpful for paper.
Hands down my favorite professor I've had. He truly tries to make the learning experience beneficial and informative for all. He wants the best for all the students in the class and strives for everyone to do well. There are 10 pop quizzes and a 10 page paper at the end although they are straight forward and he always informs you when theres a quiz
HIS NOTES ARE ONLY VERBATUM BE CAREFUL WITH THIS CLASS HE IS A TOUGH GRADER & NO STRUCTURE IN CLASSS
A good class. My interest is on Latin America so he did give me info to understand this region. At first, his lectures won't seem to pertain about Latin America but they actually do. Does give pop quizzes but gives you time to study. A 10 page paper. His lectures are not that fast but he will repeat what he said. Ask questions about the lecture too
Book was provided by him, test and quiz grades carry your overall grade, and you have one main paper that costs the majority of your overall grade. Prof. is nice and flexible. Good luck ya'll!
Professor Metaxas is by far one of my favorite professors. We didn't need the textbook because he found an online version for us. Metaxas is very caring, hilarious, and wants to see his students excel. Go to him if you have questions and he will be more than happy to help out! Take him if you get the chance!
One of the best professors I've had. He's very friendly and engaging and makes classes fun and interesting. He knows the content very well, he repeats and emphasises key points and presents content so well that you don't need the textbook. His exam outlines are thorough. Turn up to classes, take notes, ask questions, be engaged and you'll do well.
He's very friendly, helpful and engaging and makes classes fun and interesting. Classes are easy to follow as he repeats and emphasises key points. He presents content so well that you don't need the textbook. Turn up to classes, take notes, ask questions, be engaged and you'll do well. Be prepared for quizzes. One of the best professors I've had.
I studied and still barely got a b- because he rants a lot & although that is a good quality he goes off topic and forgets to prepare for his diffucult written portion of his tests.
He is a nice guy but simply doesn't seem to care much for teaching. I've taken him in person and online. In person the class consist of show up, take notes, he tells you the test answers, and that's it. Online has been horrible. He cancelled SO many classes to the point where - no lie - we ended up having maybe 7 meetings the entire semester.
Lecture heavy. Spend first 10-15mins of class talking about daily political stuff and gets sidetrack. Class meets are only once a week instead of twice a week. Some time class ends in less than an hour.
Professor Metaxas is a really good professor. You will understand the material because it keeps it simple, and he does not over complicate the subject. Take good notes and you will do fine. I highly recommend Professor Metaxas, he's a wonderful professor.
Professor Metaxas is a great lecturer. He is all verbal, no powerpoints so make sure to listen well when taking notes. The class consists of 6 quizzes, 2 exams, and a term paper. The exams are based off of his lectures. You only show up 1/2 days of the week. For the term paper, start early and make sure to meet his minimum page requirement!
Amazing professor. Lectures aren't recorded and tests are based on lecture material NOT book. If you don't go to class and take incredibly detailed notes, the tests will be hard to pass. If you do, the class will be really easy and informative!
Professor Metaxas is super nice guy but this class is so difficult for a lower level class. I've taken 300 and 400 classes that were much easier. His final consisted of a 10 page paper AND a test. He's really nice but I wouldn't take one of his classes again. A lot of people in my class went to all his lectures and took notes and still did bad.
Great Professor, even better person. Lectures are fun and engaging; however, they are entirely verbal based. A laptop is important to keep up, sometimes he can talk fast. Tests are entirely based on lecture, so missing class means missing important parts of the test. I would recommend any class, he will leave you wanting to learn more.
Loved this class. He was able to make the subject extremely interesting and engaged with the class a lot. Lots to write down during lectures and doesnt provided a powerpoint, but it really isnt bad at all. Theres no HW and a few pretty easy pop quizzes.
Frequent pop quizzes, 3 tests, and one 10-page essay due at the end of the semester. EVERYTHING is covered in lectures and as long as you come to class and take adequate notes, you WILL pass. All quiz and test questions are very straightforward and you won't regret taking this class, although it can be a snooze fest at times. Overall great prof.
Dr. Metaxas always lightened up the classroom whenever I had his class. He does tend to cancel class often which is a plus, but his lectures are very very long. They tend to be long with a lot of content. The worst thing is that he does not use power points so its easy to get lost. He is very insightful about the content.
Really great professor. He is so kind and sweet, willing to work with any student having difficulties. His lectures feel a bit long but are very well-structured and informational. Quizzes are easily passable as long as you go to class and the reading he assigns is pretty minimal compared to other professors. I have taken him for several classes.
His lectures do not have PowerPoints, therefore, you must be ready to take notes during class. Make sure to always be in class because he does give out pop quizzes.
Not a serious professor. He makes no sense at all during his lectures and is often all over the place. Very disorganized. He also cancels class a lot and he never does it at an appropriate time. Students often commute to school and he will cancel the class like 10 minutes before the schedule time. His grading is all over the place as well.
Lecture heavy but makes a lot of sense and always ends class early. He does cancel class a lot but he is also very lenient with the syllabus due to that. Very nice man very easy to work with.
if you don't attend class you'll have trouble understanding. no slides and just lectures, be prepared to take notes. he made class enjoyable with his personality. there's a 10pg essay but he made it optional b/c he was sick but the class emailed him to cancel it. his tests are hard and there are pop quizzes but he gives you time in class to study.
If you're looking to get the most out of your tuition, don't take him. Class was cancelled over half the time for various reasons. Due to this, we didn't get very far in course material. Classes were oral lecture only, you won't pass if you don't take notes. Grade based on 5 pop quizzes, 3 online tests, and final paper on Israel-Palestine conflict.
Metaxas is an awesome lecturer and I truly started to enjoy global pol. once I started taking his class. Although he missed a few classes I still felt like I learned a great deal of material by the time the semester was over. Quizzes were not hard at all, he goes over a study guide before each one. He is incredibly nice and understanding, take him!
He talks, you write. 3 exams, 4 pop quizzes, one final essay. Easy enough TBH. Study guides helped. Curves grade sometimes. Cancels class sometimes. I'd take him again...maybe...he is kind of cute in a weird way LOL
His lectures are all over the place. His quizzes are easy because he lets you know in advance what they are on. However the midterm and final were difficult with many failing but he did give a few extra points. In the end, the quizzes he assigned did not even go towards my final grade. I do not recommend his class.
Favorite class of the semester for me. Be read to take notes because there is no power point. So make sure to come to class every time or else you can get lost. I enjoyed the class and he has a great personality. Funny guy and cares about his students. 10 page at the end of the semester which was not bad at all.
Lectures are engaging but entirely verbal - a laptop is key to keep up. Lots of pop quizzes, but if you attend class and take good notes, you'll do well. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep too.
Lovable teacher, though he cancels class a lot. Go to every class and take notes because you learn only mostly from oral lectures. He has pop quizzes but reviews the topic and gives time to study so it's easy. His lectures are long but interesting with lots of examples. If you aren't used to his teaching style don't take him, otherwise he's great!
Professor Metaxas is an auditorial lecturer, meaning he mostly speaks throughout the whole class. There is no PowerPoint presentation, so if you are a visual learner, I suggest avoiding this class. He canceled classes alot. There is one big paper and occasional pop quizzes. Bring a laptop to class to stay organized and keep up with note-taking.
