Loves gauche. Waste of time.
He doesnt give any still lives, except for the very first project. Directions are clear, and the projects are fun to do. He is an honest grader. nice guy.
He is a very nice guy, likes to talk to you. He only does one still life, the rest are very creative, and you get to draw from your imagination. He is an honest grader and does offer help on your design.
He chooses favorites and if he does not like you, he will make you fail the course. He does not help you at all and later punishes you for things that you did not know. He says he is generous when grading, but that is a lie. he is a very bad professor
Great guy, very friendly and quite approachable, and knowledgable of his field. He really just wants to help each student make the best work possible. I struggled greatly with the mediums we used, but as long as you put in the effort, he will grade fairly.
He is an okay professor. Does not always give the most understandable directions. usually a good grader except for the animal hybrid project he goes crazy on you during critiques. if youre looking for a fun learning experience i would suggest another professor. Not much work but i would have rather done the cooler projects in other classes
Generally a nice guy, understood that I had no 3D experience. One drawback is he makes you do a lot of silly extra work on projects (20 sketchbook pgs etc). He went pyscho on us for animal hybrid project. Made us rank each others projects best to worst and it affected our grade. Worst. Experience. Ever. But otherwise a nice guy.
Very hard to keep up with his moods. One minute he's a nice guy with a good sense of humor, the next, he is the toughest, most rude grader.
Very nice! Maybe a bit awkward. He's not easy and he does make you do a lot of sketchbook work but if you try hard and have quality work (quality over quantity), you'll do fine. He treats you like a professional and will expect the same in return. He's a tough grader but if you ask for help and feedback he will give it. Would recommend!
Terrible teacher. I was eager to learn to draw, but he NEVER taught. Every class consisted of him playing bad music and sitting at his computer while everyone worked. The closest he came to teaching was reading the project instructions. Even when I went to him for help, he never helped me or provided input, yet harshly graded projects.
Horrible Professor mostly due to his incomprehensible communication skills. He doesn't say much in critiques but grades very harshly. Never teaches the class as a whole. Plays videos that have nothing to do with class. Very unprofessional and temperamental when you try to have a serious conversation with him. Would never take him again
Great Teacher. Was always giving me opportunities to improve my grade, and had a great class environment. We were always working casually with music playing. Most of the work will be done outside of class. My Observation skills improved greatly from this course; although, he may favor the guys in his class a bit .
Great teacher that will help. Be on time and ready with your projects. He doesnt accept late work
good and easy teacher. very nice person, just do the work on time.
His teaching consisted of a quick demonstration of how to use the materials for the project. That's it. Sketchbook was so useless and didn't help in the slightest. Projects were dull and frustrating
Really wasn't looking forward to this class, but he made it tolerable. He's kind of weird but nice! Projects are interesting and lets them be very open to interpretation, so you can do/use anything for the projects. Just make sure you keep up with them. He gives his advice when you ask for it and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Only does one still life. The rest of the drawings were pretty open and a bit more interesting. Didn't really learn anything new, but did get to experiment with new mediums. Only thing I disliked was having to keep a sketchbook, but mostly due to my own procrastination. He's always happy to offer help though if you ask for it!
Didn't learn anything. He's helpful, but it doesn't compensate for thefact that he's not teaching anything. Project are dull and crafty-looking. He does not know how to communicate and motivate students, instead he tries to be friendly, but it feels kinda creepy sometimes.
Helps you to see your ideas and concepts and puts them in a new light for you to grow on. LOTS of artistic freedom in projects! Loved doing his projects for class! My friends were often jealous our cool projects! Make sure you put the time and effort into it!! Very comforting and understanding, especially for freshmen and first quarter students!
If you don't care about design than you should take this class. It's an easy A as long as you fit the criteria for his projects. You won't learn anything from him and he always seems nervous when confronting students. Nice guy, just not meant to teach.
I LOVE THIS MAN. He gives you alot of room to completely work outside the box. He has alot of time in class to work and usually has decent music on. He is SUPER accommodating to any kind of idea or personality. He is the sweetest guy who talks about food and loosing weight alot, mostly just to make us laugh. LOVED the freedom in this class. :):):)
One of the best teachers I have had thus far. He was very helpful and gave great feed back. His projects were interesting and made you think outside of the box. Before the final project was due, he went around and talked to everyone which was very helpful. I would recommend him and I'm going to take his other classes.
Mr. O is my favorite teacher ever! If you put your heart and or time into your projects than you will receive a great grade. HIs assignments are uncommonly creative and extremely fun.
Great teacher, creative projects that are way different than others, everyone was always jealous of our work. If you want fun and interesting projects take him, I did all of my work at the dorms and just watched movies in class, hes easy going and a great guy to talk to, funny stories as well.
Mr. O was very helpful allows you to experiment with materials and think outside of the box.
He spent the 1st half of the class talking about himself, mainly focused on how fair and open he is in regards to student work. In the 2nd half of class, he hit on the girls and traveled around the room telling students that their ideas are garbage and that they should do his idea instead. Taught nothing about design. Do what he says and get an A.
He was very easy and his projects were interesting. I enjoyed him a lot, but I didn't learn anything in this class. It was honestly pointless, but for someone who this has nothing to do with her major, it was good for me. He gives lots of studio time and a lot of freedom for your designs. Sometimes he grades harder than you think.
Do NOT take this professor if you can't stand awkward, annoying professors who say the word FANTASTIC 9 times in one sentence. He makes students really uncomfortable when talking one on one and has bipolar moods. You can achieve a good grade if you can deal with all his annoying, terrible attempts of humor.I'm a really easy going person mind you.
Mr. O is very nice and very helpful. He gives you a lot of room to make the project your own and is willing to hear what you have to say about the project. He is willing to extend projects if the class is struggling to finish on time. All together a great teacher.
Mr. O is the man!! He finds creative ways to help students get fully involved and stoked about their projects. Very fun class!
Avoid this professor at all costs. You learn absolutely nothing in his classes and he's completely useless when it comes to helping you out. His assignments are pointless and he's never clear with what he actually wants. He's only good if you want to learn nothing and waste your money. Honestly, pick someone else.
He is so clear in his instructions and really helped ease my anxieties about a lot of assignments. Always willing to help. Also, no quizzes :)
Really laid back and grades well and fairly. He helps you flush our ideas. He's a professor who wants his students to succeed.
Mr. O is cool. Him and I had a really awesome relationship. You just have to talk to him and get to know him, it's worth it. Very interesting dude. I do admit he can be a little unclear with his assignments, but as far as getting an A all you have to do is come in with a good attitude and try.
Projects are VERY open ended which can cause issues sometimes with what exactly he wants from you. He really digs anything that he thinks is "art school." Very relaxed teacher over all though. Never gives direct guidance though. Projects are probably best described as "arts and crafts." Good class if you aren't passionate about 3D Design.
Mr. O's whole philosophy about school and art is that you as the student will put the most time and effort into the topics that interest you most; therefore, instead of like most classes where the projects are clear cut and high demand, he allows you to go out and create whatever most interest you. He will help you when asked and easy to talk to.
The most down to earth professor I've ever encountered. Extremely helpful and encouraging, he really lets you explore your creativity with his projects and learn about yourself as well as the subject matter. His classes are worth going out of your way to get into.
I regret taking Olszewski, and I didn't learn anything, nor did I ever hear his feedback on critique days. He grades without a rubric, so good luck understanding whats wrong. He often goes back on his words and makes the class start their projects over and often prefers projects that don't follow his printed instructions. Zeroes on all late work.
Hes pretty chill. Usually he gives you the guidelines of the project and you can do whatever and hell accept it. Hes a pretty easy grader too and during Frits he gives advice on how to improve it then gives like a week to turn it back in for more points. Class literally is just work days and critique days.
It is very easy to get an A in this class as long as you are putting in the work. He is very laid back and does not want his students to stress out at all. As long as you are handing in the projects and sketchbook at the end of the term you should get an A. He is funny and definitely cares about his students and will do anything to help.
Students here have Mr.O all wrong. They just want an easy A and fall for the trap. They don't want to have to think creatively which is why you are at SCAD. Mr.O keeps his projects open ended so you can explore that creativity you came to SCAD to develop. He does give rubrics so don't listen to these people. Follow it for an A, go above it 2 learn.
Very nice guy but I did not learn anything in class. Most of the class is either watching youtube videos, explaining a new project or working on a project. Projects are more busy work than actual engaging art pieces. Would recommend someone else if you're interested in color but if not he is nice and is available outside of class if you need help.
Very easy going guy, will go out of his way to help you in any aspect possible. Easy grader, Show up to class, keep communicating, follow the basic criteria, and you will get an A very easily
He is a great teacher. He will help you exceed and do well. He always says "This is a stress-free zone".
I took him twice because I enjoyed his class a lot. He is really good about tailoring assignments to your abilities and major. The assignments are fun and he gives you plenty of time to complete them. He makes a lot of dad jokes and is extremely friendly.
Honestly enjoyed going to his class every single day. He gives PLENTY of time to do projects, and is always willing to help. He is very understanding.
This class is a 'you get out of it what you put in' class. Its easy to show up and do the work in order to get a good grade. But if you want to get more out of the class and really learn something you need to put in more effort. Many college classes are this way and every student at SCAD should know that being creative is the most important thing.
Very down-to-earth, did not require attendance for online class. Usually rambles a lot. Gave plenty of time for creative thinking for our projects, which there were few of but fun to do. Sadly he did not really teach Color Theory, he just posted PDFs about it on Blackboard. Overall a very chill class, easy if you turn stuff in on time.
He's real chill and just wants you to make art that makes you happy. Makes it his goal to reduce your stress as much as possible. Super flexible with the projects so you can tailor it to your major and your interests. Sometimes he might forget to post a reading or document but if you email him, he'll put it up within a day.
Really passionate and revolves projects around students. Olszewski ("Mr. O") encourages students to incorporate their own major into their projects making each project very flexible. Love the class, Mr. O doesn't penalize students for trying new things, even if the project ends up flopping.
Love Mr. O!! Had to take him online, but he was so understanding and accommodating of everything going on. Gives lots of time for projects, very open ended, and always excited about each student's ideas. Even if you aren't going into a 3D major, he will work with you to incorporate your field of study and interests into a piece you actually enjoy!
Mr Olzewski is GREAT. I'm currently taking DSGN101 and its my favorite class. Its a very laid back atmosphere and based on independent work (reminds me a lot of AP Art in high school). As long as you show effort he grades easily, he's always been so supportive of my ideas and offers great suggestions. Deadlines are fair and projects are super fun.
I HIGHLY suggest this professor. He makes me excited to learn about color theory every day and his projects are creatively fulfilling. You can learn color theory through the medium of your choice. I'm a film major so I learned color theory through color grading and set design. He's also super caring and great for bouncing ideas off of. 10/10 class.
Professor O is one of the best DSGN teachers at SCAD! Period. He gives you so much time to work in class. I took him for DSGN TIME and he was so caring about everyone's projects. You will work with a lot of other people in DSGN Time. He is a very easy grader, and is so so sweet. If you want to have a fun time in DSGN Time, take Professor O.
Fun, easy, and relaxed class. As fun as it was, there weren't many lectures. If you want to learn a bunch, proabably don't take this class. If you want to have a good time making fun videos, this is a great choice. Lots of group projects, so you will have to meet up with people outside of class. He required a textbook but we didn't read it at all.
He probably won't teach you much design-wise but he will give a diverse art perspective on life not limited to film. He is extremely laid back and open; he loves it when you have fun and you'll get a great grade for that. He is personable and involved and creates a space for creativity and ideas, not for rules. Take advantage of the freedom.
My honest review is that I love Prof. O. Hes fun to be around, easy grader, lets you have the MOST creative freedom (like, almost too much). Keeps his students super ambitious. If I'm honest, we did very little work that was heavily reliable on *color theory* but I do think my design skills were put to use. Had him at 8am and it was totally fine :)
Love Mr. O! He makes the class super fun and entertaining, and gives such great ideas for current and future projects
Please take his class it will be the most fun you'll have in any scad classes.
Mr. O is super underrated. From what I've observed, his dsgn101 class isn't like the others but I really enjoyed the projects he gave and the workload in his class was basically nonexistent. You'll definitely have a great time in his class and he made color theory a lot less meandering than it should have been.
One thing about Mr. O HES A TALKER. He talks and talks and talks. Super funny guy and a really easy grader. His projects are very open and he just wants you to be creative. Be ready to hear his entire life story. Great guy, definitely someone I'd sit down with in the future to have a chat!
Professor O was really nice and understanding. He gave us a lot of class time to work on our projects and was very understanding if something went wrong. His projects were a bit odd for a color theory class, however, they turned out to be more fun than stressful (very rare for color theory haha). Def recommend!
He is a great guy, and the projects were fun if you had ideas for them. But.. I learned nothing about color theory in the class. He does have readings posted so if you really wanted to you could (readings are the bane of my existence) but he never went over them, or even gave any lesson about color theory. Learned nothing. Easy A. Very loose rubric
Professor O gives so much time to work on his projects in class. He alters your projects to your skills and major and allows a wide range of creativity with his projects. He gives more than enough time for his projects and is understanding if you need more time.
He's a great professor and really gets your mind creatively running. I loved all the projects we did, as someone who is bad at design, I loved the class. I wish there was more traditional color theory lectures outside of the readings, but the class was still great. Might be better as a design 100 class instead of colortheory in that way.
Prof O is such a caring & genuine professor. He wants all students to succeed inside & outside of his class. For me, Prof O made sure I was always offered help and wanted to make sure I was always confident and comfortable with the projects since I'm not in a major that is based in drawing. Easy to reach outside of class and super kind.
Easy class, easy grader, easy to pass, do the work you want to do. Take this teacher if you need to get the class out of the way without much resistance.
I love Professor O. If i could take him for every design class for the rest of college, I would. He is very open-ended with projects, and allows people to make projects that align with their major. Great lectures, great group discussions.
Professor O is awesome! Aside from being a great guy, his class is very chill. His projects are very open and he allows for absolute creative freedom with almost any medium. He gives good feedback and gives plenty of class time to work on projects. I highly recommend taking this professor for color theory.
He was literally the best colour theory professor ever. I was rarely stressed in his class and had a lot of free time honestly it wasnt like any other colour theory classes that my friends took. It was really fun and very easy.
This was one of the most fun classes I've taken at scad. At first I was nervous about having a project due every week, but they were all so fun and kept me in a really awesome creative space all quarter. Professor O gives students so much flexibility and freedom as well as interesting lectures and a unique perspective on art. Highly recommend!
Professor O is the perfect foundations professor. He cares, he accommodates to everyone, and his assignments are really fun. You'll make friends easily in this class, as every assignment can be in a group. If you have a busy schedule, wait until you can dedicate your weekends to filming. Flexible and easy going. Just make silly videos!
Mr. O is fantastic! EXTREMELY caring and understanding. He likes to cultivate the creativity of his students and goes out of his way to provide resources and information. We went on lots of tours of SCAD facilities. You won't learn too much about color theory, but he offers readings on the subjects. Definitely recommend him.
Professor O is a very nice person and you can definitely tell he cares about his students. It's also a very easy class, you have a lot of freedom with assignments which is nice. My biggest issues are that he would go on rambles which could be a little annoying and I wish he had more direct instruction about color theory.
The BEST color theory class to take if you don't want to paint thousands of swatches. Encourages students to explore fun ideas and offers great input. Probably not the best class to take if you're a painting major and actually want to expand your color theory knowledge, but otherwise would absolutely recommend. Take him if you can.
I'm not sure I learned a whole lot about color theory, but he gave the most interesting and fun assignments I've ever had. He doesn't expect a lot, but I found myself spending countless hours anyways, just because it was fun. You're given a lot of creative freedom, take advantage of that. You'll learn a lot about documenting your creative process.
super funny guy and a wonderful professor. the class is (so far) really easy. each project is super open-ended, allowing you to do a lot. he's super easy-going and walks around and checks in with everyone. his class is really low-stress. he pushes us to try new things with our projects and sketchbooks. his projects differ from usual 3d classes.
super laid back and chill class. multiple workdays id leave mid class to go get bubble tea on broughton and come back lol. assignments were super fun and creative. cool guy, likes to break rules. id recommend him for a silly fun class!
I loved Mr. O! Super laid back and gave us so much freedom with our projects. Cared so much about all his students and would visit us each individually every day to check in on how we were doing with the course and chat with us. His lectures could be long but thats because they were silly and he liked showing us funny memes and videos.
If you have any opportunity to take Mr. O's class you should. Amazing teacher and person and truyl cares about his students.
I really can't say anything about this guy that hasn't been said before here. He's the GOAT.
He is an awesome teacher who really knows how to de-stress a classroom full of VERY stressed-out freshmen. His class always calmed me down and made me excited for the week.
Very chill guy. Gave plenty of time for projects and was laid back on assignments turned in late. He loves to go on tangents about random stories.
