intersting class, but he's very moody! Hard to get an A on tests
Crappy
a little tough on tests, but THE BEST lecturer! The class was very interesting and Dr. Pagett knows his stuff; he's a very dynamic speaker.
Very cool teacher. Tests were easy and he gets everybody into his lectures. Very cool music day when you get to listen to 60's and 70's music and analyze it. Highly recommend to all that need to take a history class.
great lectures. keeps subject interesting. if u attend all lectures, tests easy. his 5 in-class essays are med. hard. can get an A if you try a little.
I took his 6 wk class in the fall and he makes lectures interesting w/ movies and music. His short answer test are somewhat easy but be clear in explanation and the multiple choice is easy.
Good personality, very engaging. Focuses on details rather than concepts & connections though.
Nice guy, interesting lectures and great personality.
Good teacher.
Most of the class found his quizzes extremely difficult. Eventually we learned to master Padgett's fine art of quiz-taking. He's fun and he makes the lecture material easy to understand. Good intro class to US history.
This is the best History teacher I've ever taken. Lectures are very fun, likes to relate information to things you'll understand. He's always very clear on what to study. Very cool teacher. Only complaint- He seemed to skip over important aspects of WWII.
Very cool teacher. His lectures are interesting and funny. Quizzes can be a little difficult since they are short essay questions but you will get a good grade on them if you put in a LOT of details. Tests are extremely easy multiple choice questions
normal tests are easy, but he grades like an sob on the essay quizes, and it seems that the more that is written on the essays the better grade you'll get, don't think he likes it short and sweet.
Professor Padgett was a great professor. He was always helpful and fair and knew his subject very well. I learned alot from him.
Good for GE, Hist majors should avoid
Class is fun and very interesting. I hear people complaining about the quizes, they are not that hard. Just study and be specific. He is a great person, if you have a problem just go talk to him.
Padgett has a fun personality and really puts in an effort to make his lectures interesting. He's also very kind and affable. I've heard many people say he's the best history teacher at ARC and I agree. Take him, he's awesome!
tough, but one of the most infuential teachers I've had.
Actually likes the subject. He holds students accountable and his expectations are very clear. I like that in a teacher. He is a very active lecturer, drawing you into the subject matter. Take notes, read, you'll do fine!
He is a cool teacher with an easy system to succeed
He was a great teacher, he made the material interesting and he kept your attention during lecture.
the class is hard, but he is helpful, WARNING!!!! his test are is a lil on the hard side
Great teacher and his lectures were interesting. When writing the quizess be very specific, and when taking the test pay attention to smallest details from the notes. Most of the time he wasn't in his office the day before the test during his office hours. He also needs to get over that Bush won!
Great teacher and a good easy ride!!!! I enjoyed his teaching style and love my A!
His lecturing style makes the material interesting and easy to remember later for tests. Be sure to give a lot of detail in the quizzes and you'll be fine. Padgett is a wonderful history professor and I always looked forward to his class and you count on an occational laugh here and there.
He is one of the reasons that I am a History major. He holds the class to high standards that do nothing but force you to get better, and that has transferred to other classes (at least for me). I wish all teachers taught like this, funny, interesting, and his book is probably the easiest I've read!
i am in love with this man. his teaching methods are clear and precise. you may have a difficult time paying attention andtaking notes since he's so good looking.
Not an easy A class. you must memorize stupid stuff from his books and write essays, but always there if you need help and very funny gut. P.S. DO NOT pack up your things before he is done talking!!!!!
Great Guy, Easy Class. All lecture notes except 6 reading assignments/quizzes. Read them and you'll be okay. The tests are all from the notes. Show up to class and you'll do fine. Fun lectures, some videos, always entertainging. Take this class!!!
First of all he's pretty funny, but very though on grading the written quizzes. You practically have to memorize the chapters and the exams have a few random questions, but over all OK. Oh yeah: He is very liberal amd sometimes has a hard time keeping his opinions out of the lectures.
I am not very interested in history, but I loved this class. It is kind of hard, but he's really funny.
Love this guy! Great at lecture, funny, interesting. Tests are challenging, but never tricky. He doesn't stand for a lot of misbehavior in class but does encourage discussion. And, he's a hottie!
Great Teacher. Extremely funny!!! Go to class because everything you are tested on is what he talks about in class.
I never liked history before this class. He made it interesting and funny. There is not too much homework the tests are easy if you go to class every day, but the quizzes require studying.
He is awesome. You need to know your stuff to pass, and you earn your grade. But he is wonderful, wrote the text himself! Very approachable and willing to go out of his way to help. I would recommend this guy to anyone. He's kinda cute too.
gives the grade you deserve. good lectures. take lots of notes! not everything is in the book. hard tests, write everything you can on the essay question. write at least a 3 page essay on the test
He failed me. But he gave me the grade I deserved. Actually i barely passed.
chris is a **** too he's hella helpful and funny at the same time.....he's the kind of teacher that everyone should have
His us history class was the only history class i have ever enjoyed. i highly recommend him!

He is a great teacher, her gets right to the point. Test are mainly on his lecures which are really clear and to the point. He only tells you what you need to know. Best Hist prof i have ever had
TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!! HE IS A REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR EVEN IF YOU HATE HISORY I PROMIS THAT AFTER TAKING HIS CLASS YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND! HE IS VERY FAIR AND HELPFUL
Awesome teacher!! He makes learning history fun. I hated history until I started taking this class. He's tough on quizzes, but he's fair.

Awesome teacher. Awesome class. I've never had that much fun in a class. I recomend him to other students all of the time.
Never wanted to skip class. Understandable when it comes to being absent and change of test taking dates. Cool guy and takes time to make sure you understand.
one thing's for sure, prof. padgett loves dates. If you can memorize dates you'll be golden in his class. I really like his emphasis on the "why"
Great teaching style. Love this guy! Wasn't that interested in History until this class. It was awesome... fair tests and quizes, notes almost everyday.
very good teacher.i like his class and i recomend it .
very easy to understand
Padgett is a straight up ****! He says history as if it were just a story. He is Very understandable. The guy has a Phd so he knows his**** and you will know when he lectures. He's pretty anal about dates and all the little nitty gritty****. If you goof, speak to him after class and he might just cut you a deal. I love history now because of him.
Best Teacher I have ever had! He is informative, smart, understanding and patient. I love him! He has inspired me to become a professor myself. Side note he knows how to draw you in with his sex appeal.
He is the best professor I have ever encountered in my college career at American River!
great teacher, easy to understand and learn. Material sticks in your mind because he teaches very well.
This professor is so cool. Not only does he know his history and loves to teach(a real rareity), but he is also very clear regarding assignments and grading. He brings historical subjects to life when he teaches it. I would recommend him to anyone who is serious about learning history.
Very fun teacher, and very funny! Keeps you interested and is pretty easy. You have to try hard on his quizzes.
Comically arrogant and very pedantic about exams. Still, the guy knows his history and lectures very clearly and well. If he ever quits teaching history he should look into dinner theater.
Very interesting teacher, hard quizzes, be on top of your notes and study, makes you learn, but what are you in college for? Good Teacher.
fallacious reasoning and argumentation, offers very poor support for his views which are highly biased
If you like to be verbally abused and publically humiliated, this is the "teacher" for you.
His teaching methods did not fit my learning style. So I thought of withdrawing from the class because he wasn't very clear in explaining details.
His quizzes are more like tests, and his multiple choice tests are more like quizzes. He's biased in his views, but still knows his stuff. He wants you to buy three text books, totaling over $150. Students would learn more from his classes if he'd spend more time teaching rather than berating his them over nit-picky things.
He writes his own books, and sells them for very cheap, but you get less than what you pay for. The man is very in-your-face and rude, and the tests are not covered by lectures or the book. He is very biased, which gets in the way of anything he might actually know. Avoid taking a class taught by this man at all costs.
Great teacher! just take notes read and study hard and u'll do fine. he is always interesting in his lectures! DON'T sleep in his class!
He is a very dynamic professor who knows his subject matter and teaches students enthusiastically. I would hardily recommend him as a great history professor.
if you take this teacher, expect to learn everything on your own, without any help from him, or the books he writes as textbooks. there is almost an implied violence when he interacts with students. i highly don't recomend him, and furthermore think that he has rigged his own ratings.
As a dilligent Honors student, I knew my grade to be unwarranted. Knowing so, I attempted to discuss this with him and found his approach to me as professor to student very unprofessional. I understand the "implied violence" from a previous comment. This is not a specialized course. Maybe there's a reason he's no longer at the UC level...
NEVER take P, he sucks. He is the exact defin. of BIAS in logic & towards students. Teaches fr. what he wrote himself, which tells you something. Bk is an essay of what he (emph.) feels is history. He has had several complaints. Not organized, severely judgemental, extremely closed-minded. Promote his agendas only. Criticizes & mocks true History:(
This class was great. I didn't care too much for history classes before this one, and wasn't too excited about taking one. Padgett is incredibly intelligent and knows his history extremely well. I went to his office hours and he was really helpful. Only takes roll when he feels like it (which is pretty much never) very interesting class, RECOMMEND!
Nice guy, great teacher, grades fairly. Don't let the slackers below or above this turn you away from a great learning experience. Not many teachers out there will take the time to let everyone talk about what many times turned into a heated discussion. History 18 is a great class. Study, take notes and debate with the class. You'll learn a lot!!
Dr. Chris Padget is an outstanding teacher. He is really enthusiastic about his choice of carrer and this carries over into the classroom. As the saying goes, "Do not mistake my kindness for weakness." I have see him Yell at a lazy class. If you participate and attend on a daily basis you will earn the grade you deserve.
Chris is a great instructor. If you are lazy, disrespectful, and do not like to read, you wil not like this class. Padgett is not easy. you will have to read and learn about history to do well in his class. He is very interesting in class, lectures are intense. His quizzes are VERY demanding, but I left the class actually learning something.
One word describes the class; context. If you are not prepared to provide absurd amounts of this on essays, then this is not the class for you. Anything less than regurgitating ALL of the information in the textbook in the essays precludes you from acheiving an A on his tests. Grading is subjective, and makes little to no sense.
I'm not much of a history buff and I really don't like memorization, so that's probably why I didn't enjoy his class much. His quizzes are INFORMATION INTENSIVE.. you -have- to read the sections at least twice to memorize it all. Exams aren't so bad, and he lets you drop the lowest score you have. Lots of attitude, but in a good way - Just hard.
Padgett is a big fan of himself: he writes his own books, and he can't tolerate any opinions other than his own. History can be an interesting subject, but there are much better professors than this if you want to learn and not just be badgered. If you have any flexibility in you schedule, try to take this class from another teacher.
This teacher is his own biggest fan. He writes his own books and lectures like he's on stage. He has major attitude when anyone questions him. Also, be prepared to become an expert on his material-it's the only way you'll pass. If I was you, I'd take another class.
He can be really arrogant. He was constantly making lame jokes that he thought were hilarious, and he got really annoyed when nobody laughed. He graded very hard on the essay question tests, but the multiple choice tests were pretty easy if you took notes.
Definately not an "easy A" professor, but his lectures were fabulous! Take good notes, because it's all about him and his exams are based mostly on his lectures. Great professor overall and extremely knowledgeable. If you're willing to work hard, I highly recommend him.
Funny and loves what he does. Take lots of notes, and study for your tests and quizzes because that is only what your grade is based on. But I loved his class and I don't really like history all that much.
I didn't like his class. He said a lot of stupid jokes that were not at all funny. we wrote in class essays from material in one of the books he assigns to us. he grades way to harshly on the essays, i got the same grade on the essays that i studied really hard for that i did on the ones i didnt study at all for. (the grade was horrible)
He made this course very interesting. It is a sad, depressing class, but he taught it thoughfully. You will have to study, though. This is no easy A, I got a B+ and consider myself an overall A student. Don't disrespect him or treat him like a high school teacher. He isn't and he deserves your respect.
He is very clear and lets you know what is important. The only difficult part of the class is the quizes. The quizes or essay quizes; the more names and dates you can write down the better off you'll be. Overall, the class was actually fun. He brings in movies and music to study.
I didn't like him, he was constantly making lame jokes, and then he got very annoyed when nobody laughed. It got very old. Plus he was a very tough grader on the essay questions.
I did not like this professor at all. I dropped his class about a month and a half into the semester. He may know what he's talking about, but his lectures are really boring and it's hard to pay attention. And he doesn't allow for much discussion about anything. It's all just names and dates with him.
Mr. Padgett's class is not an easy A, but it's very educational. He didn't assign homework. Instead, our grades were based on map quizzes and tests. He is vocal about his opinions, but he is also a good teacher. Plus, he wrote the book he uses for his class. Personally, I think that makes his course more interesting.
This teacher is not easy. I took six classes (including Ochem) and this was the only one I didn't recieve an A in. In fact, I had to fight for a B; however, his lectures are worth the battle. He is very entertaining and loves what he is doing. If you're there to learn: It's a great class. Id you're there for the A: There's easier teachers.
This teacher is tough and likes to see students fail in my opinion because I have gotten all A's and B's but got a D+ in his class so that says something about him not me and how bad he actually is.
Padgett is a cool guy. He's funny and easy-going, but you have to show up to class to pass. Lecture material, videos, and textbook reading are all equally distributed on the exams, and the other book is for the essay-style quizzes (which are really difficult to get an 'A'). I got a 'B', but I had to study intensely for exams and quizzes. Good class
good professor
This is by far the worst professor you can EVER take. So freakin dumb!Says the lamest jokes! All he does is lectures, thinks he knows everything.Embarrases you at times.Tests are SUPER hard.Hes such an idiot.
He's alright... take really good notes cause that what most of his exams are off of. Essay's are pretty easy. Just skim the ch. and take notes then study those notes. only has 5 essays and 5 exams. no hw. some extra credit. Overall, kinda intimidating but he's ok.
Well, I'm sure there are worse teachers and I am pretty sure there are better ones for this class. The in class essays are almost impossible to get an A on, he gives study questions for tests but the tests have almost nothing from those study questions. Lectures can be hard to follow because he starts talking about random things out of no where.
The worst thing about Padgett is his ego. He thinks he knows everything. (That’s because he does.) If you can put up with that, he’s not a bad teacher. You do have to do your assignments though. Yes his test are hard, however he is preparing you to be an adult. If you take this class with an attitude that you can just skate by, you will fail.
Prof. Padgett runs a very tight ship. He loves his subject and is very knowledgable in it. He is also very by the book on attendance; meaning if you miss class you will be docked so be prepared to attend religiously. His tests are very hard mainly because they focus on names, dates primarily. Most points I lost were due to forgetting when or where.
I had little to no interest in history when I took his class, but his methods (while a little tougher than average) are VERY engaging to the student. He did impressions of famous individuals, played 60's music as part of the lesson, as was a very helpful teacher outside of class as well. I'd definitely take another class from him!
He's not a bad teacher, but relies too much on Blackboard and takes forever to post things. However, there's no homework, so if you study well for the essays, you'll get a B easy. He says some things that are historically accurate, but may be offensive to Christians. I'm an atheist, but still found some things inappropriate to say in a classroom.
I had no problem with this class, if you take good notes you'll have no problems with the exams, the hardest part was the in class essays. I had no interest in history but he does a good job in keeping it intersting. I would take another class of his if he taught another subject.
he helped make me a history major. thanks dr. padgett.
cool guy
Very good teacher and fun personality. I am not a history person, but Prof. Padgett makes it very interesting. The class is not really hard if you read the material (books are pretty good). Class is graded on 5 tests and 5 in class essays. I was scared of the writing, but he's a really fair grader. Humor his Kennedy impression :)
Wonderful teacher very interesting! Class moves very fast pace! 5 in class essay no notes and needs dates and very detailed! And 5 exams 50 multiple choice questions. Take good note do the reading and you can easily pull of a B. A is very difficult to receive. I truly enjoyed his class! Don't take him if you are lazy!
Professor Padgett is a decent teacher, but his liberal biases interferes with his teaching & grading. I had an A until I spoke up. All of a sudden my test & essay grades dropped. That's not fair. He's a hard grader on the essays. You must memorize too much information to get an A. Tests rely very little on notes & more on interpretation.
My suggestion is to avoid this one. He's an grumpy egoist who is the only one who enjoys his sense of humor and his writings.
TEACHING ABILITY IS GREAT
Great Teacher, very interesting to listen to. Made History class allot easier. Puts of many jokes throughout teaching, which some don't like, but I love them. Keeps me alert. The material is not that easy, but doable if you did your fair share of studding.
This teacher made my life so hard. i was about to transfer and he messed me up. this is the worst teacher u can ever take in your life. i think he needs Dr. Phil, because he is slow in head. none of the lectures make sence and things that we cover in class were not on the test. maybe 7 of 50 were. he hates students. he said that he only cares to ge
I'm a student with an extensive background in history, and believe that Prof. Padgett's approach to history is poor. He seems to not understand the importance of causality in history, and his essays are little more than regurgitation of facts from the text; the more useless birth dates and pointless facts you remember, the higher your essay score.
Dr. Padgett is a great teacher and makes learning about history super fun! Class requires actual work though, tests are based off lectures AND readings. He is pretty funny too. Gives an interesting perspective on history
Dr. Padgett is a good teacher, he keeps the lectures interesting. His classes do move very fast at times. There are five in class essays and five multiple-choice tests, each worth 50 points. It is very difficult to get an A on the essays, but the tests are generally easy. Over all I will, and are planning to take his classes in the future.
Don't let all of these reviews scare you. If you come to class, pay attention, and do the work, you will do ok. You will learn history. If you are looking for an easy A, forget it, but if you want to learn history, take his class
He's a pretty good professor. Attendence is mandatory, however nothing he lectures on is ever on the test... so make sure you read the textbook!
Very cocky and arrogant. Shows his prejudices and biases towards certain race of groups in the class at times. But do not think he meant it intentionally. Teaches by the textbook which is in favor of the student. Not the type of prof to take if you really want to understand and think critically through analyzing history.
This is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had! His standards are so high that it almost seems impossible to get an A. He wrote the textbook you will be using in class. He thinks he is the smartest guy in the world and like to show off his vocabulary skills. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. If you are not a person that lives for history and by live I mea
I do not recommend Dr. Padgett. You will learn a lot in his class, but you will probably not leave with an A. A written in-class essay is the majority of the points of every exam, and even with no notes or the book as a reference, Dr. Padgett expects you to be an expert. Even the student-written sample essay on his website only received a 90.
HARD CLASS!!! 5 in class written essay's and 5 multiple choice exam.(50 pts each)DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! if you want an essier class take mary galvin=)
To give you a good understanding of his essays: I wrote a total of 35 pages of IN CLASS essays and received a 'C.' All he wants you to do is regurgitate as much useless information you can. Do not take his class if you want an 'A.' But if you can remember pointless names and dates that are unnecessary for answering an essay question, hes your guy.
I am not a perfect A student like the people posting most of these reviews. But i do love to learn. So i can live with a B or C in Dr. Padgett's class because you will learn a lot. Great professor who knows his subject.
the class pushed me to study and i learned a lot. History is not my subject but he made class lectures interesting. I know a lot of people sit and complain about his grading, but realize we are in college and not in high school anymore. for anyone that doesn't take college seriously i wouldn't take his class. but if you want a challenge go for it
Dr. Padgett is so amazing. I love him! He showed me that history can be interesting and not just memorizing a bunch of dates. He plays music and is really funny. It is important to show up for lecture and to read the essays assigned, but so worth it. Tests are essay and multiple choice, kinda hard but not too bad. I heart Padgett!
I LOOOOOOVE Padgett. He's a WONDERFUL teacher. The essays aren't very hard as long as you study for them. He's very fun and his little antics are adorable. Overall Padgett is really awesome. I didn't like history at all until I took this class. <3 Padgett FTW!
Dr. Padgett is a great instructor. His style is light and entertaining. If your looking for an easy A, dont take his class. If you want to learn History then its for you. His exams are tough but fair. He actually expects you to learn something..go figure.
He wrote his own book and u have to use that as the text book. It is written like a novel instead of a school textbook which makes it hard to study. The tests are hard, no study guide. He expects you to know everything before you even come in the class. I would NOT RECOMMEND HIM AT ALL!!! he acts like you are an idiot if you dont get the material...
He is a great teacher. His map quiz are super easy as long as you spend time studying. He gives your the essay prompt well before the exam so as long as you put in the effort you should do just fine. Multiple choice are off his study words at the end of each of his chapters :) He really enjoys teaching about history and you can tell. Great professo
No HW, only 5 exams. Provides plenty of study material (essay outlines, video study Q's, chapter study Q's) you can get an A. PPT lectures available online, however, he does take attendance regularly and if you miss 3 classes he will drop you (or lower your grade) so go to class! Discussions in class not really encouraged- it's basically his show!
Im gonna keep it very short and simple. Dont take any class with Padgett. You will watch your gpa drop! You have been warned. And if you end up taking a class with him, you have nothing but your own stupidity to blame. He is extremely bitter for studying a subject that no one takes seriously.
out of all the professors I have ever had, he was the best one! If you want a easy A, take this class..chances are you're a dirtbag..and you deserve the F you will get. Be in class, be respectful..Study!
Great Professor, actually got me interested in history and provided lectures that weren't the mindless standards that were spouted to you in high school. Awesome teacher and makes me much more interested in history and teaching.
best teacher i've ever had. makes subject interesting. he's very funny. i loved coming to his class every time. gives you all the study guides online, if you study you will do good on tests.
Great Teacher, he injects comedy and life into a subkect that can easily be boring and tedious. Tests are 60% essay based off of one chapter out of the book. He likes names, dates, cities, and good flow on the essays(he does not teach this material its all reading). If you attend class the multiple choice is a breeze, if you dont you will struggle.
Loved him...fun, interesting. There are no hidden secrets to try and figure out. Teacher is very clear on what he wants. You just read the book, listen to lectures and he"ll quiz you on it. Period. All teaching should be this way. I learned a great deal!
Excellent Teacher! Don't be put off by his huge textbook, its all important and the textbook is actually a really easy read. Only negative is this guy is the slowest grader I have ever seen. Fall asleep in class and he will straight up kick you out. Good class though, wish he taught 307 with his own textbook.
Really rude professor. Very self centered. I studied my ass off and got a C! Dont take him if you dont have to!
He seems to be a very intelligent guy and is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches. He's funny and witty. However, attendance is mandatory and you better read the book and study because you're excepted to know a lot of dates, locations and names. He may seem egotistical at times and it's definitely not an easy A.
Padgett is the best history teacher I've ever had and overall one of the best teacher's I've ever had. His lectures are informative and he takes an exciting approach to history that I have never experienced. He's funny and very very smart. If you pay attention and do the reading, you will be just fine. I learned so much! HIGHLY recommended!!
I am taking this professor online for hist 311 and it is hard. His grading is really bad. 5 test that are two parts, one is essay aroung 1000 words he marks you down for every spelling like this is an english class Also the other part is multiple choice 40 questions an they are timed 10 quizes, 2 journals and 10 discusion every week assigment do
Comming to this class makes you enjoy History. He makes an hour class seem like 10min. He can easily get off topic but still relates back to history. His exams are really hard but he is understanding when it comes to grading. GREAT CLASSS!!!
Terrible.1st)if you take this class it should be your only class you will have massive hrs of lecture and reading weekly.2nd)Test are ridiculously hard. you need to know really discrete stuff.35 min for 40questions. 3rd)Don't expect your work to be graded,it will take 5-6weeks to get anything back so you wont know how you did or how to improve
I was the previous rater. I forgot to add that I am taking the course on line. Looking at the reviews, he seems to be a pretty good in-class instructor but as I said before he is terrible on-line.
I really liked Professor Padgett's teaching style. The class is just based on tests and there are couple extra credit opprotunities. We also need to read a novel. I wasn't really looking forward to taking a history class, but I felt like I learned a lot. He also mentions things that people didn't learn in high school history. Good sense of humor.
great. super funny & take a twist on history ive never seen before. hard to get a good grade though. no assingments AT ALL, ONLY 5 EXAMS: 40 mult choice and 60 point essay (given ahead of time, but SO MUCH INFO required u basically have to prewrite and memorize a 500 word essay to get a B on it) book is useless but essays based on it.
dude this is college obviously its going to be hard.....but this teacher is freekin hilarious , hes probably the funniest teacher ive seen.
This was an online class, and it was difficult. The book we had to read, Slaughterhouse Five, it was terrible and time consuming and we only had about 15 questions on an exam about it. He became backed up in his grading so for most of the class, I had no idea how I was doing. Also, there was little flexibility...I take online courses for a reason!
His grading is ridiculous! He has such high expectations that are impossible to be reached. He does not curve the grades. He is not sympathetic. DON'T TAKE HIM if you want to get a good grade in history. His class average is a C. Not because the students aren't trying, it's because his grading is so harsh.
His grading is terrible. If you want to lower your GPA, then take this guy. He loves to give his students C's.
I liked this class. Disliked the professor. His comments were inappropriate and he made me feel uncomfortable. You could get an A if you quote his text word for word. If you can't do that, then you better be happy with a lower grade. I don't suggest this professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! He seems nice and funny in class but he will destroy your GPA with a smile on his face. Take history with someone who actually cares about their students.
The subject is interesting. The professor is not. His lectures are so boring and pointless and he is so rude to his students. He talks down to his students as if we are dumb children that do not understand English.
My 1st difficult online class! I study my behind off to keep a 4.0 GPA. I felt I did very well & was getting by w/a C! Very tough (slow) grader. Final grade still not posted so I have no idea if I even passed the class. Cool professor but DO NOT ask for extra credit/make up options...he will answer w/a rude comment! Don't see many getting an A.
I took this class on-line. I did well, but this class was extremely difficult and is no push over. You will have a lot of work due. This is a very demanding class and Professor Padgett is a very strict grader. That being said yo will learn a lot.
History 311 was a interesting class, online class and yes lots of work, My name is Martine and I spoke with Padgett face to face/ were able to receive clarity and feedback. Made a huge difference, He is very passionate about history and even gave me his personal phone number to talk. I received a A, but u have to do the work and show real interest
I have always hated taking history in the past, but Padgett actually makes it interesting! It's refreshing to find a teacher that is truly passionate about their subject. His tests ARE a bit difficult, but come on, this is college. Just read the book and pay attention in lectures. Apply yourself. I'd definitely take him again!
The only reason why his class would be considered "easy" is due to the lack of homework and quizzes. But the whole class is based off 4 40 multiple choice and essay tests. He doesn't give notes as to why your essay was good or bad. He will ramble about thins not on the test and he's unapprochable. If he doesn't finish his lecture he makes it "hw"
I know what you are thinking right now... an ONLINE HISTORY CLASS.. YES!! Find another teacher, trust me. Padgett does spell out what is required by having a checklist, but I never received a lower grade on my essays before in my entire life before taking this class. If you want an impossible challenge, go for it, but don't.... you'll regret it.
Mr. Padgett's class is hard, but if you study and ask for help he will help and you will pass, as well as learning so much information!
Prof. Padgett's grades are completely based on 5 tests, worth 100 points each. It's not an easy A, but he's a fair grader. If you prefer not to study or tend to do poorly on tests, then avoid his class. Otherwise, definitely take him. His lectures are as enjoyable as a comedy sketch and you will never be bored.
I love this teacher. He gives interesting lectures and really knows his history. Padgett also integrates culture into the study so its not so dry. Everybody has to have history...This guy is the one to take.
super boring, made me want to fall asleep. gives hard exams, & NO homework! really hard to get engaged in the course. posts most material on D2L (ppt, study q's,lectures, videos) There are 5 exams totaling 500 points.half multi-choice half essay. I would not take him again or recommend him, can be rude. best advice STAY UP ON YOUR READING *IMPORTANT*
awesome professor, really enthusiastic and extemely knowledgeable about material, fascinating lectures, if you want an easy A take a different class, if you want to learn a ton about American history take his class
Based on 5 tests. 60% essay 40% multiple choice. If u can repeat everything he says word for word and remember every pointless date in order, u might get a C if you are an honor student with a perfect memory and no voice or mind of your own.
Class is based on 5 tests which are 60% essay and 40% multiple choice. For the essays you have to repeat word for word all the useless dates and names , all facts, and no analysis of your own. I usually receive A's and B's but in this class it is almost impossible to even receive a C. Keep up on reading, goes off topic a lot. Rude. No respect.
This class is all memory. If you are a genius and can remember long chapter filled with dates and names and irrelevant information, then you might receive a C if he likes you.
Treats teaching more as a annoying job rather than a passion or interest. Really doesnt know how teach. Stalls a lot to waste time.
I was dissapointed with this class. He treats teaching like a big hassle. Does not respect the views of his students, wants everyone to agree with everything he says, including atheistic religion. His tests are all about memory. Long, impossible multiple essay and multiple choice.
Excellent! This is not an easy class. Prof. Padgett is passionate about the subject & makes it interesting. He does expect you to work & you should plan for the essays as they are 60% of the grade. He also sets standards of behavior in class & expects you to meet them. So if you want to sleep or play on your phone do not take this class.
Disorganized and does not know what hes talking about, makes alot of mistakes. Very difficult class.
Amazing Instuctor. He is very passionate about what he teaches. He does expect you to do your readings. It's not easy to get an A but if you study and memorize you will have no problem. This is a college course and he expects college responses on exams. Over all I learned so much and had fun with his humor. Pleasuable Padgett.
This class will destroy your GPA. Getting an A is impossible, getting a B takes a LOT of hard work. "C's get Degrees" isn't how med-school sees it. I like history, and I actually enjoyed the lectures. But if you want to get a reasonable grade, do NOT take this class. Even if you memorized the entire chapter, you wouldn't get an A on the essays.
I got an A in the class, but completely understand and agree with those who say that this is next to impossible. Most lecture time is spent off-topic, and in-class essays (part of every test) are incredibly difficult. He expects every date and detail (and there are many) in each essay. I'm not exaggerating. My in-class essays were often 6 pages.
Padgett is awesome! I had him two semesters. I had to repeat for transfer because I got a D the first time but that was my fault, not his. He is smart, funny, and helpful if you ask for help. Essay on exams are majority of your score, but essay question is given ahead of time. Put effort and have some brain, it will pay off. Sexy for an older guy.
Padgett is insane. But in the best of ways. His class his probably the hardest I have ever taken but in the end I learned a lot and I actually changed my major to History. Highly recommended for serious students who like to write and are willing to learn.
He grades as though it is an honors course. For example, last exam only 1 person got between 85-90 and that was the highest score! Out of 35 essays! They make up for 300 out of the 550 points, but he does off 3 chances for extra 10 points. Easy B online, BUT VERY HARD A! AVOID HIM!
Very tough grader. Dont under estimate the test essays. had to memorize the whole chapter ( dates, names, events, places, chronology, context, analysis), memorized front and back and got a B. which like only 3 people in class that got it. But he does teach very interestingly and he is funny. But if you want easy A or B then try someone else
The tests are very hard! Need to memorize lots of things and write an essay. The class can get dreadful at times but it gets entertaining to watch him kick people out for being on their phones or sleeping.
Long-winded lectures that are generally off topic. Grades overly harsh. Avoid teacher unless you wanna be bored and work hard to only get a C or B.
Padgett has passion for history and it certainly shows. Padgett was supportive of my requested accommodations for his online course, as I am deaf. Padgett's a tough but fair grader on the discussion assignments and exam essays. I got a 81 on the 1st essay and a 94 on the 2nd essay. It is possible to get an A but you need to push yourself to do it.
Padgett is an excellent instructor. Lectures are long but interesting. Has tons of helpful information on D2L for his class. Helpful if asked. Entertaining. Overall I enjoyed the class and I do not like history.
Absolutely hated this course. I am a lifetime history fan that is majoring in the subject and Padgett's course made me detest Early American History. The books he use are pointless summaries that jump around and distort historical context. He also skims heavily over important historical events such as the American Revolution and Civil War . Bad
Padgett is rather strict and I have seen him throw more people out permanently than any other professor. Your entire grade will be based off of 5 test, 3 of them essays.
I'm not a big history fan but I loved his class. His lectures are very entertaining, his classes sometimes felt like story time :). His class is an easy one to pass. There are 3 in class essay exams but he gives you the material to review weeks in advanced. You can pass this class easily if you study and come prepared. He doesn't assign much work.
Prof Padgett makes history interesting. He wrote his own book and it resembles one big continuous story, which I loved. There are 5 Unit exams, Half is multiple choice, and half is one large essay. Most students struggled on the essay because they didn't come prepared. What really helped me was typing up an actual essay to study. Fun class overall.
This was a challenge but I learned a lot. You will need to study and put in a good amount of effort but you will get the grade you deserve. I thoubt it was a good class, i like the video lectures a lot too. I would take this professor again.
Professor Padgett is open minded and very knowledgable. But he is a very harsh grader he bases his grading on grammar and not so much on how you presented your opinion and how you supported that opinion. His discussion board questions are ok. Even though sometimes they were too open... He prefers when you quote his lecture instead of the textbook.
He expects you to quote his lectures more than the reading or even the links he uploads. His grading seems a little inconsistent. He will mark you down for grammar even though he has typos and grammatical errors in his assignments. He takes a while to get graded work back to you.
This definitely was the hardest A that I have ever earned. DO NOT take this class if you don't like discussion posts and essay-like homework. He does provide clear instructions and examples on how you should do your work, but it takes a while to get your grade and feedback. If you follow his examples and look at grading criteria you should be fine.
I would never take this dude again! The assignments are so confusing and not specific on what he wants. It takes him forever to grade assignments. Too many assignments
As a person he is alright, however, his teaching and grading criteria can be a bit skewed!
does not like opinions, teaches as if he is an English teacher, only cares if you share the same view as him, worst teacher and I've taken many history classes and love history, this has to be the worst professor!
Professor Padgett is a great guy but I personally did not like taking this class due to the assignments he gave us. They were quiet hard to do and takes A LOT out of your time. I feel like the PowerPoints he would give us didn't make alot of sense and it was confusing to understand. Most of the material in this class is a bit confusing.
Not recommended, not the class or the professor.
If you are not an english major or are not good at writing DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. His homework is pretty straight forward but he expects you to do so much more work than you expect. Answering the questions is not enough and he wants you to elaborate to the point to where you don't know what else to write only to get a C average per assignment.
He refused to sign my progress report for whatever reason. He is 2 faced and likes to play like he's friendly. He ain't. Y'all are being played. He's a woman hater and could be more upfront about it. Don't be surprised if he stares, he's got loose screws in his head and just wants to fight. He f'd up at some point obviously. Pretentious and bitter.
Worst professor I have ever had. Lectures are always off topic, so he runs out of time to discuss material for the test. Grades ridiculously hard and is condescending!! Do not take this professor, this is the first C I've received in my college career and I've done every assignment.
The most unfair grader ive ever had. He does not like opinions and will give you a 0 on assignments for having one. No answer is ever good enough and if you think youve digged deep enough on your answers, you haven't. extremely frustrating.
I would never recommend this professor to anyone. He is an extremely over-the-top tough grader. If you have or express your opinion whatsoever on an assignment, he leaves very harsh feedback. Or if your opinion is not what he wanted to hear, he will leave harsh feedback. His assignments are very time-consuming and he expects you to write abstract.
I took Prof Padgett for 310 and 311 in one semester. The materials consisted of weekly discussions, homework, heavy reading, a critical analysis paper and 2 essays in both classes. I worked my butt off in both of his classes and nearly passed with an A. He is a tough grader in all criteria of his assignments, but he truly is passionate in teaching
Takes forever to grade and grades harshly. I love writing and history and this class made me hate it. Take another professor if you can. The highest anyone got in my class final essay was a B. Wants you to quote the lecture more than the book and the lecture has no structure. Very hard to follow. This is the hardest C I've ever worked for.
He's not an easy professor. Even though there were no exams, he grades the discussions and home works very critically. You can find the answers easily, but he wants you to logically give a critical answer rather than just a correct answer. He expects you to give college answer levels, nothing is simple and easy. He also takes a long time to grade.
Lots of writing and reading. I have never had to work so hard for a C in my life. If you can take this course from someone else, do it. He is very critical in grading and good/correct answers are not sufficient. This is a critical analysis class for a history major. Everybody else, take someone else.
I wouldn't take this professor again. He is the hardest grader I've had at ARC. He obviously is a history scholar and expects every student to be the same. I enjoyed his presentation of history and was surprised that I was getting poor grades in this class when I was getting A's in others. His grading is too harsh for the average student.
10 assignments that require analytical essay responses w/ citations, not Y/N answers. Read 3 WHOLE books. Delayed grading (2-3wks). Ex grade 18.39/25. Unavailable to you, be prepared to outsource resources to clarify his prompts or any questions you have. Do not question his grading process. Lack basic email etiquette, rude, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!
This is the hardest C I've ever worked for in my life. I wish I'd read the ratings before taking his class because it destroyed my GPA. My hard-earned 4.0 sank because of his unattainable standards. I did all of the assignments and met all of the requirements, but he expects you to write like you're a history major and not taking a gen ed class.
Dr . Padgett is a really great professor and knows History to a science. Hes an extremely tough grader but if you have questions he responds back quickly. If you are looking for an easy A this is not the class for you. No quizzes or test but expect to write A LOT and READ all the material provided.
Warning!!! This is not an average History G.E. Requirement. It should be labeled as a critical historical analysis writing course. Professor Padgett is overall unhelpful and completely unsympathetic towards students. if you have issues or dont understand an assignment/question youre better off asking youre 8 y/o brother than him. Good luck.
This man does not grade a single thing and when he does its harsh. One discussion or hw every week due sunday, requires in depth knowledge that youre automatically supposed to know. Does not help students whatsoever, feedback is trash and doesnt genuinely care about his students. Stay away hes a really harsh grader with no mercy.
If you want an easy grade this isnt the class. If you want to learn history and love it, take the class. His method of teaching is to teach students how to analyze history and try to make it stick. The assignments are not hard, the exams are if you arent studying. Just pop on the lectures while doing something, read the book and youll be fine.
Yes, lots of reading (text book and 3 outside books). Yes, the professor requires very detailed analysis with citations for all written assignments. This professor will filter those wanting a degree (figure out how to pass) or those wanting an education (willing to do the work). If you actually apply yourself, you'll learn a lot.
Do not take this professor if you do not like History or taking history as requirement. He does not allow to submit asssignments after the due dates and gives F. We have to read many books. His efforts in class is less but expects more from us. Do not take this class.
Cannot answer a simple question. His instructions on the final essay were vague so I emailed him with a question. He gave me a snarky response and refused to answer my question. The expectations on many assignments were unclear and misleading. I've always liked history classes, that changed when I took this one.
He is one of the worst teachers I have ever met. My suggestion is please never ever take this class. Just do not take this class
I put a hex on him.
Worst Professor ever. The amount of reading required each week is unnecessary and is flat out a joke. During this class you need to concurrently read two books while also taking the time to watch over the posted videos each week. I spend more time working on notes and watching videos for this one class than I do my other three.
Hardest grader I've ever had as a teacher, write looong responses to your homework assignments to tell you what he didn't like about your work. Be prepared to READ & watch videos & read articles & chapters from the text book with multiple books that he assigns. Make sure you use every little assigned readings in your sources when doing the homework
Most life draining class I have ever taken.
Took HIST311 with Professor Padgett - be prepared to put in the work. Lots of reading, writing, and watching videos. Tough grader, but using Unstuckstudy AI and the free textbook helped me get through. Overall, a challenging but worthwhile class.
Genuinely horrible, no help with anything ever. Would never suggest
Assigns exhorbant amounts of work and undergrades massively, usually multiple weeks late. Accused me of cheating when I hadn't. Was enrolled in a dual enrollment online class, had no mode of communication with other students except for high school classmates; even then, my work was completely distinct. Stain on my academic career. Literal Nightmare
I don't like his teaching style!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬 Very tough 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
it's just a hard class with a more difficult professor. i enjoyed the class and the material but i was more overwhelmed with my grade than anything.
I found this professor to be particularly demanding in many aspects. The course material was more complex and challenging than necessary, which led to a more difficult experience. I don't recommend him to any other students who may be considering ARC in the future. This class has left a negative impact on my wellbeing.Overall it has been difficult.
It was an interesting class to take as someone who enjoys history. He is a tough grader, and it is important to listen to his feedback.
Wouldn't reccomed incredibly hard
I would highly recommend to not take this professor very hard , very boring, this the hardest class ever i take very hard assignments to do (((((just do NOT take this CLASS)))) if You wanna have good greade and GPA DO NOT TAKE .
Horrible professor! I worked so hard in this class and had medical notes for missing a few dates and he dropped me anyway. He is very boring and lecture heavy, be prepared to fall asleep.
Worst professor I've ever had. DO NOT take him. 4 essays- little to no feedback. So incredibly rude and literally told me he could make my grade whatever he wanted because he had “God like abilities”. Extremely rude responses to emails. Do not waste time or energy because you'll lose your mind. I've never met someone as horrible as him.
Never felt more set up to fail by a professor, maintained an A all semester—I have an accommodation with DSPS—but as soon as I had a health issue/needed to use my accommodation he chose to not accept my work and drop my grade back to an unrecoverable percentage. His feedback is generally mean for no reason and not super helpful. Take someone else.
don't do it
This professor doesn't allow us to see our grades in class at any point during the semester. Do not take. His feedback is not helpful, and his lectures are extremely difficult to get through. Very tough grader and lots of reading. This is a professor who doesn't want his students to succeed, and that is very clear in the way he teaches.
Despite how he sounds in the lectures, this dude is generally pretty rude and difficult to talk to. Assignments have terrible and confusing instructions and you have to look at three different instructional links to understand them. If you want to succeed, just write down what you think he wants to hear based on the tone of his lectures.
I took this class for my first semester at ARC and I do not recommend taking this class. Instructions are unclear and you're met with feedback that is rude and condescending. He is a VERY tough grader and will not like your work unless you're parroting his lectures (not the videos though because he doesn't remember what he said in those).
Padgett is the worst professor I've had to date.1300 word essays for the midterm & final, based on his messy lectures. Harsh grader, combative, and does not care about his students. Seriously, AVOID AT ALL COST!
Padgett is the worst professor I have had in my last 3 years of college. Honestly, just rude and unclear with his directions. Apparently, his godlike abilities don't include being pleasant to a mere student.
I've been to university at a UC college for years, also experienced many classes in community college. This teacher happened to be the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Unnecessarily harsh grading with a terrible criteria. Insanely inflated ego, power tripping for no reason. False accusations of cheating. Avoid this teacher at all cost.
It has been agreed with many of my classmates that Padgett grades too harshly and is condescending towards his students. This is the only B I have received in three semesters. I would not recommend this teacher for anyone. Although he has good information in the lectures, it doesn't matter if you use it in the essays as you will stillgetalowscore.
AVOID . accuses you of cheating. tries to outsmart you just by asking him a question. one mistake on an assignment costs you your entire grade. gave me a zero on an assignment that had 1 mistake and told me the entire assignment deserved a zero, didn't even bother giving credit for the work I did that still aligned with the rubric. waste of time.
Please please please do not take this professor!! He is the absolute worst teacher I have ever encountered. Is very rude and condescending when giving feedback, and will literally tell you your content is wrong when it's based on the lectures and rubric. Gave me 60% on assignments over ONE mistake. Please avoid!!
