Its history, so of course lots of info. Grade comes from 4 assignments and attendance. 2 Exams and 2 papers. If you stay awake, complete the study guides from the reviews and write a decent paper without plagiarizing you will get and A. Extra credit is offered. Prof. Paolella is a fair and you can tell he loves what he does.
I can't say enough great things about Dr. Paolella. He is one of the best Historians that I have ever met. He knows how to make every lecture extremely entertaining while informative. Moreover, he is very clear about his grading criteria and class attendance, which is mandatory. If you are looking to learn about history this is the class for you.
Taking this class to complete my social science institutional area was the best decision EVER. Dr. Paolella is a real genius in his field. He is very clear on his grating criteria and paper rubric, two Chicago style essays, one mid-term exam, and one final. However, you must go over the weekly powerpoints and study guide. Don't skip class!
2 long multiple choice tests (all classes go to test) 2 long tests Great classes, lots of content to learn, but Mr. Paolella does a great job teaching it.
I would consider myself a very good writer and had issues writing papers in this class. (I received an A in both English 1101/1102). Even if you hit all the requirements for a paper, it is not good enough and he will dock off 20 points with all requirements met. It seems he wants you to analyze your sources even if they go on a tangent.
I recommend taking this course with someone else. This course is unnecessarily difficult. You have a three-day window to do the midterm, but he locks all the module slides so you can't access them during this extensive time frame. Everything is to the extreme like this. If you have other responsibilities or courses, a class like this is a nightmare
Professor Paolella sets you up to fail. His tests are long and timed so you only have one minute per question. The questions are a paragraph long with complicated verbiage, so it chews up even more time. Once you answer a question, you cannot go back. This is just one example. He makes it as difficult as possible to succeed and be successful.
I learned a ton in Dr. P's class. Take his class for knowledge, not for easy A. Exams are straight from the lectures and textbook (which is free, btw!) He takes lectures down during testing window because exams are not open book, which I expected. Weekly essays with tons of feedback. He has tough standards, but imho, my writing really improved.
This class was extremely challenging. Forget taking this course if you are taking other classes because the workload consumes you. Not an easy A at all. The instructions for assignments are extremely poor. The midterm and the final are ridiculous and timed where there is not much wiggle room.
His class is heavy on lectures. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches but he will go on long stretches and his powerpoint slides have multiple paragraphs on them. I think he realized this and tried to do more with participation towards the end of the semester Tests are mostly memorization (but long)and if you know the study guide ez A
He is a nice person, but he does NOT teach. He just assigns homework. There are no lectures. You have to do it yourself. The tests are long and hard, and he is very strict grading the assignments. I was expecting a lot, but I got very disappointed. Please, do not take his online classes.
avoid taking his class
Avoid this class. He locks and timed all discussions and quizzes. Forget his lecture they are useless for the class. Rely on the book. no, make-up test if you miss any assignment. He doesn't care if you fail/pass. he just grades assignments, there's not teaching involve. if you as a question he will tell you to read the book. HORRIBLE!
RUN!!!! He is knowledgeable but not helpful. he's not the kind of professor that goes above and beyond for a student. Don't waste your time on his lecture slides, just read the book . Test and discussion every week. Before midterm, and finals he would block all the past slides. He does not accept late work , and his quizzes are timed 1 attempt.
The course was fairly easy as long as you read the material. The quizzes and test did not test what YOU know, instead it tested what you DIDN'T know. He has no sympathy for any students and does not care if you succeed in the course or not. Make sure to turn everything in on time because you can't be a second late. No make-up work either.
2 exams and questions are straight from textbook and lectures. Lectures are up during exams. He gives a study guide 2 weeks b4 exams. 75 minutes for 50 multiple choice and t/f . No surprises. Essays get lots of feedback. Pretty easy to do well, just do the work.
I liked the class, it was interesting and engaging, and the workload was manageable. The professor responded quickly to emails, and hes really nice.
I took the 6-week intensive, but besides the writing requirement, it wasn't all that tough. there's a grading rubric in the syllabus and in the Orientation module. He leaves tons of feedback and accepts late papers. What's on the study guide is on the exam, and everything is either in the lectures or in the book. I learned a lot!
I took this class for my civics requirement, but it was really interesting! Grades come from weekly discussions, which I thought were pretty engaging. There's a weekly quiz that covers the textbook assignments, and the questions are literally taken straight from the book. 2 exams, which are basically long versions of the quizzes. Also, study guide!
I had a tough summer, and I was in danger of failing this class. I emailed the prof, and he got back to me in like an hour! We worked it out, and he let me hand in my work late for partial credit. Really cool dude. No complaints.
What you expect from a history course. Lot of readings, but its interesting at least. He gives a lot of feedback so it's easy to improve. Quizzes and exams are basic true and false and multiple choice. Read the book and the lectures, take notes, and there's no surprises
I just finished the 12 week summer class. There's a LOT of reading but it's a history course. Three essays, two exams, weekly discussions, and there was an extra credit essay at the end of the course. The workload each week was not too bad. Just expect to read for a couple of hours over the week and stay on top of your assignments. Nothing too hard
I enjoyed learning from my home. It was a good learning experience. Professor Paolella made a real effort to explain his lectures. An all win in my learning experience.
It was a good class. I emailed him my questions, and he responded quickly without being made at me like some of my other teachers.
Interesting lectures, the textbook has a digital version thats easy to use. assignments are easy to manage, exams are multiple choice and true and false and he gives you a study guide a couple of weeks in advance to help you prepare. Good class.
This guy's good! I'm really interested in ancient stuff, so this class was an easy oneto take. Three 1 page essays that have increasing point values, and he gives tons of feedback to prepare you for the next one. The exams are easy. The questions are just what the lectures and textbook says. He's super responsive too to emails.
I took this class becuase it's required, but I had no interest in it, and wow. This stuff is real interesting. We watched this crazy WWI documentary, we read actual historical stuff and we have some really interesting conversations on it. Its crazy how much of this stuff is still going on! Pretty cool class so far!
It's an online class, so it's good for what it is. The modules are easy to follow, each one has an introduction that spells out what you need to do, the course has a ton of reference material, he gives a ton of feedback on every essay so you know how to improve. He gives a study guide before each exam. No surprises, interesting lectures. I'm happy!
Professor Paolella is the best history teacher I've ever had, TAKE HIM HE IS AMAZING! It is such an easy class to take: there is a lecture once a week, we use the American Yawp for discussions, and there is only one quiz per week to take about the material we covered, his lectures are so good he gets students to engage so easily. Pay attentionpass
Great class. I took this class because its required but i never had any interest in history. Dr. P made it really interesting and I actually liked going to class. Textbook is free also so that's a win. For real tho take him. Its easy and interesting.
Great teacher. He is straight-to-the-point with his assignments. All you have to do is read, study and listen to his lectures while also doing weekly quizzes which aren't hard at all as long as you do what I just said. Would definitely take it again if I had to.
I'm just going to repeat what most people have already said so far, its a really interesting class, and if you do the readings then its easy. His quizzes and exams come from the American Yawp and powerpoints. He's also really engaging. This was the first history class I actually liked, and the other people in class i talked to felt the same way.
Dr. Paolella is an amazing professor! I enjoyed taking his class and learned so much. This is a difficult class but as long as you put in the effort you will be successful. Must be on time, no electronics out in class, and the quizzes are timed.
I took this class because its a Gordon Rule class which I need to graduate, but it was awesome! He brought in armor for the class to try on! Who does that? There's no mid term exam, just 11 weekly quizzes for 10%, and he drops the lowest score. Attendance is 20%, Final is 10% and 3 essays which are 60%. He gives you tons of feedback on the essays.
Good class! Fun lectures, interesting class discussion. The work is manageable, it's mostly just reading and taking short multiple choice and true/false quizzes. Three essays, but they're not that long. There's no mid term, and the final exam is just a really big quiz, which isn't weighted too heavily, so if you bomb it, it won't kill your grade.
Do not let the reviews fool you. This class is very time-consuming! Each week you have a chapter quiz on that week's reading of the textbook, which you have a 20min limit for 10 questions(which you need to read to do well on!)and also a 250-word long discussion post with a 125-word response. you have to write 3 essay during the class they were hard
I really liked the class. I saw a couple of comments who didn't like the reading, quizzes and writing, but, that's a history class, and its a college-level class, so, yeah, expect to do some work. But, I thought it was pretty easy, the work's not too tough. Good class. I'd take him again.
Dr. P is awesome. I'm taking a few classes this semester, and I really appreciated that he uses a free online textbook. That was really cool. Also, everything is posted online, even the lectures, so you can always refer back to them. He put out his study guides weeks before the exams, so I had a lot of time to prep at work and school.
Lots of small assignments to earn points, and he gives a lot of partial credit on essays, so nothing really is make or break. The class is awesome. His black death lecture was crazy!
I am happy with the online course. everything is accessible 24/7 you know exactly what is expected of you and there's no surprises. You put in the work and your good. Yes its time-consuming and hard at times but idk this is a college course lol! Like someone else commented, pay attention pass.
I thought this class was hard but in a good way. The professor explains the material clear but he also expects a lot from his students which is not a bad thing. He also gives a lot of feedback so you can improve on the essays. The quizzes are easy and you get 20% of your grade just from attendance so its not too hard to pass.
I liked how his class was set up, he is a good lecturer and he is accessible outside of class if you need something! just remember to actually do your assignments! I will be taking another one of his classes!
The discussions are easy, but the papers and midterm/final are graded EXTREMELY heavy which power over the discussions. So even if you get a 100% on all the discussions, if you get a B on a paper or exam, your grade WILL drop to a B. Not only that, but the papers are EXTREMELY harshly graded and very hard to get an A on, the exams are insanely hard
I took the 6 week accelerated course, and its intense. But the prof was up front about it, so no suprises there. Overall i liked the course. Its interesting, the prof would usually respond within a couple of hours, even on weekends. Plenty of feedback. Good class.
Prof. P is a really good teacher. His lectures are clear and their really interesting. There's not too much work, but it's a writing-intensive class which I need to take to graduate, so it is what it is. It's manageable. He gives a lot of feedback so I could improve, and he's super fast to respond to email, even on weekends.
response time is super quick. Sometimes he was responding to me within minutes. I even offered a few suggestions and he took my advice and went with it. Quizzes are taken straight from the book and he drops the low score. Discussions are easy. But really work hard on the essays. they count for a lot. He gives a lot of feedback which is helpful.
His lectures are engaging but are not helpful. The weekly quizzes do not even contain the lecture material. 2 papers that are very harshly graded. Attendance is an insane struggle with this dude, it counts as 200 points. I was sick and he said a note from the CVS clinic "didn't count as a dr's note". He's pretentious and difficult on purpose. :(
Overall, I really liked the class. He's funny and with the small assignments if you mess on a couple you don't auto fail and he drops the low quiz too. Study guide for exam, grading rubric for essays, module guides, its all laid out. Attendance counts for 200pts, 20% of the overall grade. 200pts just for showing up? Easy and that saved my A grade.
Fun class! The lectures are good, hes funny, and he worked with me when i had life issues. The quizzes cover the book, the lectures are different but I like that. If he was just covering what I have to read in the book anyways, then whats the point of going to class? The lectures cover the terms on the final exam study guide. Id take him again.
I do not recommend taking this class, especially online. I'm a 3.8 GPA student, and I'm nearly failing this course because he grades so harshly. The papers are so rigged, no student gets a 100. The average score on the paper is 50%. I know how to write a paper, I passed AP Lang but this man wants to say he doesn't know my prompt.
Awesome class. Im not a 3.8 gpa student but I just finished up with my first A in a history class. Easiest ways to pass: 1. show up. 20% right there. 2. do the homework. 20 minutes for a 10-question quiz and all the answers are in the book. 3. Pay attention to the feedback on the essays which are 300 words. Im taking his AMH 2020 in the spring!
I'm a returning student, so my perspective might be a bit different than most. Dr Paolella is challenging but I feel like I got my money's worth with this course. I don't like paying hundreds of dollars for a grade, and I feel like I learned a lot in this class. He expects a lot from his students and I appreciate that. Solid prof and a solid class.
First history class I liked. Prof P makes history interesting. He asks us our opinions and lets us make up our own minds. Looking at the reviews I was kind of worried that this would be a tough class but it wasn't. His exams don't count for a lot, he gives a study guide and he gives a ton of small quizzes and assignments so nothing's make/break.
I liked the prof. He gives you a step-by-step guide each week that walks you thru the lectures and assignments and he gives his grading rubric for the essays in the syllabus. He puts up a study guide weeks before the final which is only 10% of the grade. Essays are important so take your time with them. Super responsive to my emails and really nice
I thought it was an easy class. He gives you two unexcused absences, drops your low quiz, gives you 200pts just for attendance. Pay attention=pass.
Prof. P is awesome. This is my first year in college and I was really nervous and he walked me through it. He answered all my questions, helped me figure out the course and understand everything. I talked with him after class about the lessons and he would just talk with me until it made sense. I'm taking more of his courses next semester. Def rec!
I took the EUH online class and it was good. Its a lot of reading but its a college history class so no suprise there. Prof gives lots of feedback, quick turnaround on emails, study guides, plenty of time on quizzes, so I've got no complaints. Good class
Warning! DO NOT consider taking this class alone! Have either friends or make a group class chatroom on watevr social media u agree on! I wouldn't have passed this class w/o my class group on discord. EXTREMELY PICKY ESSAY GRADER! WILL TANK UR GRADES HARD! But!! w/ friends and elbow grease you may b able to at least pass the class w/ or above a C
Super fast responses and willing to work with you until you understand the lessons. Clear and easy to follow assignments, what you see is what you get. Make sure you do the assigned readings bc he gets his quiz questions from the book and lectures.
I really struggled with this class for the first couple of weeks, but Dr. P met with me on Zoom and walked me through a lot of my issues. He worked with me to improve my writing and my note taking, and I'm pretty sure I'm going out with an A in this class, and I feel like I earned it and I learned so much. He's really nice, flexible, and responsive
Super great teacher, there are weekly quizzes so make sure you pay attention and take notes and read the textbook. two papers are required for this class, not too bad. if you like history take this class.
I loved this class! The professor was really nice and worked with me this semester which I appreciated because I was going thru some things. The class is interesting, the assignments are easy as long as you do the work, and the two essays are three hundred words each, so really not so bad. I learned so much!
Dr. P is a great professor. You can see how much he loves his class just from the energy and enthusiasm he has when he's teaching. I didnt do as well as I could have but thats on me, I know I was a bad student this semester. But this was hands down my favorite class I've taken so far period.
Great class, great teacher. He loves history and he makes every class interesting. Assignments are not difficult if you put in the work, but if you don't, your going to struggle. All of the lectures are accessible online, and 20 percent of the grade is attendance, so you can do well just by showing up. Definitely one of my top classes this year.
Professor and class was amazing! Get ready to read, material is easy to read though and powerpoints and very helpful for tests. One discussion and test due most weeks, midterm and final with study guide given. No essay's which I loved the most. Grading rubrics are clear, responded timely to emails. Would def recommend to anyone and would take again
Took this professor twice for U.S and Medieval History and can say without a doubt that he was exceptional and passionate about these topics. When a professor enjoys their job, you can tell. Received A's in both and honestly wished I had professors like him all the time in the health department. Won't forget this guy ever.
He was an alright professor, but when it comes to missing work don't even think about trying to submit it. He is not considerate at all and will not care if you are going through a tough situation. Turn in assignments on time and you will pass, they are not very tough assignments. But be warned if you are a procrastinator.
Just finished up AMH 2020 with this guy. I really like the set up. He doesnt send out a ton of emails, and when you write to him he gets back to you super fast and he's super helpful. Its what you expect from an online history course, read a lot, take quizzes, a couple of exams and do some discussions. Study guides are up at the start. Great class
This was such a good course. I took the six week accelerated class and omg, I thought id die. It felt overwhelming! Dr. P met with me on Zoom whenever I asked and walked me through it. I did it!
This is such an awesome class! We put on armor today, who does that seriously? I think I'll end up with a B, which I'm fine with but this is so good. Seriously take this class, you learn so much and its so good. Quizzes are easy as long as you read, everything's straight up and easy to follow.
Professor Paolella does a great job at teaching this course and the lectures are great for learning the content for that week. I will say, prepare for lots of reading, as you have 1 chapter a week as well as PowerPoint lectures that you must read. Each week, there is a Module Quiz which is about 20 questions, but it isn't too bad if you read.
You will have 2 Assignments due each week, one test and one discussion post (plus responses). Most answers you can google. He does not use a text book that you have to pay for, however he will provide you a free online one which is pretty cool. I will say that the low amount of assignments compared to the midterm's/final's weight is heavy.
I took his AMH 2020 and EUH 2000 courses to get grad reqs out of the way. Tbh the reviews are legit. Great prof, puts a ton of energy into both classes. AMH is easier i think, but both were great. Seriously take this guy. Hes good.
This is the first history class I loved. Lectures are really engaging and you can tell he loves what he does. I would 100% take another class with him if I could. Quizzes are not bad if you read. Get your assignments in on time and show up to class and you pass. Study guides for exams too.
He's a very deatiled grader, but aside from that, I have nothing bad to say about the job he does. There has been many times that his lectures have had me eager to learn more and he's open to any questions you have for him. He is very passionate about his lessons and you can tell by the energy he teaches with.
I was really nervous about the essay, but he breaks it down into steps so its not that bad. Lectures are great, homework is managable. He's willing to work with you if you have life/work situations. I really like his class.
This was a one of my best classes so far. Prof is clear on whats expected. The course is easy to navigate and hes got study guides for the exams, the quizzes are from the book and lectures. He gives a weekly overview that tells you exactly what you need to do and when. You know exactly what you need to do and the work is a lot but not too much.
This is by far my favorite class so far. Prof P is amazing. He loves the stuff he's teaching, he's funny and u can tell he cares. He scales up the writing assignment and takes you step by step thru the whole thing. Quizzes are pretty easy if you read, discussions are easy. I'm seriously learning so much.
I took Prof. Paolella's AMH 2020 online course. It's pretty easy, imo. Quizzes and discussions are all from lectures and textbook readings. Study guides before exams. Everything you need to do is right there. Gives feedback when you need it, emails when necessary but doesn't blow up your inbox. Exactly what I wanted from an online course.
Very enthusiastic about what he teaches!! We were a mixed mode class, so he would lecture the slides when we had in-school class and all class work was done online, and it was amazing. He was very engaging when he spoke and he taught very well.
Great class. Im not a history buff but he makes the class fun and you can tell he loves what he does. Work is not hard. exams have study guides, and I learned a lot.
This professor is really good at his job. He explains things so well and makes you understand things and how they relate. I talked to him outside class too and hes always willing to explain stuff I was confused about. 10/10
This was a better class than I was expecting. I don't like history but he made the class fun and interesting. Hes good
I took the summer accelerated class with this guy and he made the work doable. The canvas site is set up so well so that its easy to navigate. Each week's work is in weekly modules with an overview, reading assignments, lectures, discussions, and quizzes. Exam study guides r up at the start of class, so you knew exactly what to look for. 5 stars.
Its a history course so lots of reading. I had internet problems but i contacted him when they started and he emailed me back in less than an hour and rearranged the due dates so I could get the work in. Super fast responses and reasonable. Wish I had more profs like him.
This was great for an online class. Everything is organized clearly and easy to follow. Plenty of time for assignments, study guides, and fast responses to email.
This was a great class. You know exactly whats coming no surprises. Read what he tells you to read, follow the directions for discussions and use the study guides. It's an easy class plus interesting.
Assignments contain of 1 discussion and 1 quiz each week, plus midterm and final. Free online textbook! Super direct class and responsive prof., if you have any questions simply reach out to him. Works with you as long as you are polite and upfront. Not much else to say besides great and easy class. Don't hesitate to take this prof.! :)
I really liked this class. Prof was flexible with me which i really needed this summer. He replied quickly to my emails and explained things I didnt understand. Theres a lot of reading but I expected that. Tests are right from the book and lectures. Study guides are up at the start of class for exams. Discussions are interesting. Work is manageable
Professor Paolella, was amazing. Every week we only had one discussion post and one canvas module quiz. As long as you followed the discussion post requirements he usually give a 10/10 on them. There is usually one one lecture per week and thats it. Midterm and Final exam was also on Canvas.
Professor makes this history class engaging and manageable. With clear instructions, study guides, and helpful feedback, it's a great option even for those who don't love the subject. Unstuck study also proved to be a useful study aid.
Great professor. At first, I thought the discussion posts were going to be annoying and difficult but overtime you get used to it and it becomes so simple. Heavy reading but not the worst as it's a history class so what can you expect. He had one discussion and one quiz weekly, spaced out pretty nicely in my opinion. I'd recommend.
Great class and pretty easy. No papers, the discussions are not hard to get full credit, just follow the directions and get your posts in on time. He's pretty strict about due dates, but otherwise, it's a good class and not hard to pass.
I took this class and AMH 2020 with Dr. P. this summer. AMH was easy, this class was also pretty easy. No papers either! Like I wrote in the other review, just get your work in by the deadline and follow directions. No problems. He's crazy fast to respond to emails. I got a response back in like 10 minutes.
I took Professor Paolella online over the summer. You get one discussion and one quiz every week, and the deadlines are always on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a lot of reading but as long as you keep up, it's not hard at all. The material was clear, and the class was overall really manageable.
I was nervous about takjng an accelerated online class, but this was a great one. Everything is laid out clear, the overview tells you exactly what is due and when and yeah there's a lot of reading, but other than that, its just quizzes, exams, and discussions which are pretty easy imo.
I actually really liked this class. You can totally do well if you put in effort. Definitely put effort into the discussion posts. For the quizzes, prioritize taking notes on the lectures, there are a few things from the textbook sometimes but I usually just ctrl f whatever I suspected to be in the book. Quizzes are timed but not proctored.
I took this over the summer. Not many assignments, just one a week. Put effort into the discussion posts, ask for feedback if you need it. He's a nice professor and class was very straightforward. If you struggle you weren't trying.
Took world history to 1500 online class. It was v easy. 1 discussion and 1 quiz a week, sometimes he skips homework completely. his class was not stressful at all and I work full time. only thing is that I'm a auditory learner and the book was sucky. idk if there is an audio option, but I could never find it and it doesn't let you copy paste.
This was a great class I didnt know what to expect but everything is laid out easy and clear. Work is not bad just a lot of reading. Professor is fast to respond to email, sometimes within the hour. So that helped whenever I had questions about the assignments.
This was a great class. Everything is easy to understand, you know exactly whats due when, no surprises. Prof is pretty strict about deadlines so dont miss them but otherwise easy class.
Great class, but there's a lot of information so you have to really keep up with the work. Take a lot of notes, because its a world history class so its all over the place. The book is pretty good tho and the lectures help. The assignments are pretty straightforward, nothing crazy. No papers just discussions, quizzes and an exam.
alot of reading, but the assignments are mostly discussions which were pretty easy. dont procrastinate the readings, or u will get very lost. overall, good professor with nice feedback!
Lots of textbook's readings and lectures. Each week there's a quiz that's typically based on the textbook so as long as you read you should be good. There's also a discussion which can be quite length, but once again comes from textbook. Overall, it can be a lot of work but if you enjoy history, you will enjoy this course as it goes in depth.
The course is really clearly organized. Just do the readings and you ace the quizzes and discussions. Prof is fast to reply to email so I like that. If you want to take this course, take him.
