Took online, tests were easy if you read and did the discussion's how he asked. Simple!!!
I must say this is the easiest teacher I have ever taken... Online course but man I skim through the chapters and take the online quizes (true or false) and get a B or higher everytime.. Just use common sense if necessary.. I dislike the American Holocaust book thus the reason for just skimming.
He is an amazing teacher who is really funny and loves to challenge students and gives a lot of help and detailed lectuers. However, he talks a lot so brace yourselves.
Amazing Teacher, I love his class.
He's pretty cool, and his beard is just amazing. He's really good at explaining stuff. And his class was pretty easy.
3 Books used: America Brief History, American Holocaust - very difficult read, and Beer in America - very interesting and easy to read. Quizzes are 10 questions in 10 minutes and straight out of the books, reading is imprtant. Discussions are easy, but very important. Must reply to at least 2 posts - again, easy but important.
As long as you keep up with your reading you will be fine. One discussion and one quiz a week with two exams. Quickly responds to emails!
When I first started this class, I am going to say that I was very nervous because it was a late-start and there was A LOT of reading, but once I was able to get into the swing of it, I have enjoyed it! Make sure to read your textbooks assigned because you will be lost without them. Overthrow was an amazing read, and I won't be returning it!
LOTS OF READING! Almost 100 pages a week. Assignments and quiz aren't hard. One discussion and a 10 question T/F every week. A midterm Final and a study guide for each. Over all not hard or extremely time consuming other than ALL THE READING!
In class he seems very nice and outgoing... but when he gives you the test its not what was on the review! If you are not a reader and busy do not take his class during the summer!
I have been in the class for three weeks now and he hasn't graded any papers. This class is A LOT of reading, 60pg each book. I studied for the quiz and still failed. I want to drop this class but I am going to wait and see if it gets better.
I am in the same online class at the moment other that the quiz grades im still wondering what my other grades are i failed this quiz too and i did all the reading its kinda of discouraging but im going to stick it through its a lot of reading!
You read about two, occasionally three, chapters a week. The first couple of weeks, it was a little daunting and I didn't do so well on those quizzes but after I got the hang of it, I made all As on them. It really wasn't too much reading! The supplemental books are very interesting. Overall, it's a very straight forward class.
Although I found this class extremely easy, the lack of communication was quite horrid. I was worried at the beginning of the semester if my discussion posts were meeting the requirements for full credit, and quiz grades would not show up in the grade book automatically after completing. After 5 email attempts I gave up and just did my best.
Awesome professor! He was amazing class was too easy. He have you the work online everyday.. I took this class online for 3 weeks and again like i said it was beyond easy!! Do the work use google to help with the exam! total of 3 exams again easy online class
Take him. He's not very prompt with posting assignments, but he grades unbelievably easy.
He was very on time with his grading, but it did take him a while to respond to emails. I usually would not get a reply till 4 or 5 days after I sent the email. He is often very brief with his feedback but it is very helpful.
I took the regular semester and got an A. There will be quizzes and discussions every week, follow by replying to other students. There is a lot of reading. One with the textbook followed by one of the two other books required. There are 4 essays from the textbook. At the end, there will be a book response essay and an extra credit essay.
He got back to me on emails pretty quick, but he was often slow in grading assignments. He also would not give very clear feedback. The best part about this class is that there were almost no exams and hardly any quizzes.
This class was beyond easy. The answers to the test are on Quizlet. The only thing you really have to give thought to are the discussion boards and quizzes. It takes a little while to get a hang of the quizzes. But overall such an easy class. I definitely recommend. The textbooks are actually interesting too. ! discussion board & quiz each week.
I has some trouble with the quizzes since they did not really match up to the material he was asking you to read. I am not sure if he is used to the class setting and maybe he lectures on items that is not covered in the chapter? Either way I tried to email and NO RESPONSE -ever!! I dropped this class.
I took the 8 week class in the spring, this class is easy if you read the books and do all of the assignments. But he does not post grades until the very last minute. Good luck trying to get him to email you back if you have a question, emailed him 4 times within the past two weeks and nothing! Horrible communication for an online class!
Just finished his 8 week online class and I still do not know my grade due to him not posting grades on time. This class is super easy, but there is no communication at all. He will send occasional emails to the class but will not respond to an individual. It is very frustrating not knowing your grades on assignments even after the class is over.
I took Professor Phlegar for 1301 and 1302, both express 8 week classes. That being said, there was a LOT of reading. 3 books total that we read, 1 completely through & the other two about half. 1 chapter out of each book every couple of days with a quiz & discussion. There was no final, just the 4 exams. The exams are straight from the quizzes
Took his class and I am taking it again for 1302. It was great I just would've done better if I knew more about history. His work is explanatory, you have to actually study in order to get a good grade.
By far the best professor I have ever had in my life! He's hilarious and makes History sound interesting! His exams are straight from the quizzes which makes history a piece of cake. I personally recommend him to anyone who's taking history. Love this guy. Take him and I guarantee you, YOU WILL PASS FOR SURE!!
He's an excellent teacher. AS long as you do your ID'S, online discussion questions and know your essay you should pass. he gives you study guide that replicates the test. I learned the material.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR! Great lecture, you actually remember what he talks about because he keeps it so interesting! Do your hw and study and there is no reason why you wouldn't be successful in his class! Deff taking him next sem for 1302
He does not know what he is doing. He is not a good professor. How did he get the job? Never taking his class again. Think twice before taking his class, we all regret it.
Regret taking this class. He isn't very well organized. I don't recommend anyone to take this class.
HE DOES NOT REPLY TO ANY EMAILS. You probably have to email him 5 times in order him to actually reply. I took him in person last semester and he would give us a quiz like everyday, and gave boring lectures. Taking him online now and its ridiculous.
Liked the class, gives popquiz, do your ID's, so dont skip class, test off of the ID's, he asks for a short essay on each test, easy if you read a little. He makes class fun with his opinions. some work group assignments, used the book a lot. very helpful when you talk to him, Got an A. Overall easy class and fun! take him.
Read the book and you will pass. Quizzes are easy and exams are long and easy. Discussions make sure you read the book and reply. Professor takes a long time to give grades back, but I would definitely take again.
Took the class for HIST 1301 in the summer, very easy if you read and do the questions he hands out. The quizzes are easy and reflect on what will be on the test. Usually he will let you work in groups a day before the test to compare the questions he hands out with others. Funny guy, keeps the lectures interesting and keeps you awake.
I took Professor Phlegar last spring, but just now giving reviews to my professors. His study guides are awesome to study for exams and quizzes. Class is very easy and I would recommend to anyone.
I took Mr. Phlegar for both 1301 and 1302 history, got A's in both classes. Yes, in the beginning it was difficult but his lectures are to point and interesting. He gives a lot of chances for extra credit, helps and answers any question you might have. His exam reviews help a LOT in his exams. Would totally take again!
He is a great teacher! I took him in person. I don't like history but he made it very enjoyable, and interesting! Didn't bore you during lecture instead he kinda tells them like stories he's very entertaining. I am defenatly taking him for HIST 1302! Gives study questions for each chapter of the book and doesn't take them 4 a grade. only 3 exams.
Great professor! He is funny while giving lectures and I don't even like History. You do have to read the textbook and 3 books to pass the class but it is not as bad as it sounds. He gives study questions for each chapter in the textbook that are exactly like the exams! Do EXTRA CREDIT! he gives out easy extra credit take advantage.
His online class was fairly ok. He just takes long time to response to your e-mails and it depends on what is being asked he can VERY RUDE with his response. He is a teacher that seems very strict and doesn't work with you. What he says is what goes regardless of your feedback.
You must do everything he gives you that'll be a grade to pass his class. He only grades form my experience, 3 quizzes, 3 tests, and 2 papers from book reports. He also grades by using a point system, so your grade won't go down only up. But in order to have a good grade you must get as many points that you can in each graded section.
Phlegar is a great professor, he offers many opportunities for extra credit. The class is very easy and so are the test if you do the reviews he offers. You will have to write some essays but they are not hard at all and he is not a hard grader.
This dude was AMAZING! I am now taking english 1302 and his teaching compared to my new professors is so good. I love his lectures they are short; however I learned a lot. I would take him again if i could.
TAKE HIM, Very Straight forward. DONT USE PHONE IN THIS CLASS. Lectures gives study questions and quizes and test (which are minimal) come STRAIGHT FROM study questions. Lectures are not boring
There is a lot of note taking with this professor. He's very funny & understanding. As long as you study the material from class & the textbook it should be an easy A+
He's an awesome professor. His lectures are interesting and funny. Class was simple and fun. If you take notes and do the readings you'll be fine, and on top of that he offers plenty of extra credit. I took him for 1301 and I'm taking him now for 1302.
He's a nice professor that has an easy workload and is mostly considerate when it comes to late work. However, he sometimes forgets to open the quizzes on D2L and if no one reminds him, it will stay unopened. Though he doesn't mind when he finds out, he will allow us to take the quiz next time on a different date. Overall though, he's great!
I took him for both history classes. Amazing teacher, easy If you study. Hes a trip.
Phelgar is HORRIBLE at giving back grades. The class is over and I still have no idea what type of grade I'm going to get because he hasn't turned in anything! Posts tests and information late and only gives you like 4 days to have the work completed.
This professor is amazing at what he does! He loves teaching thereofore his lectures are not boring. He gives you quizzes and three exams just study and you'll be fine. He gives a review for the exams and he also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities so take advantage! And there are three book reports due but the books are not boring!
PROFESSOR PHLEGAR IS AN AMAZING PROFESSOR, I ENJOYED TAKING HIS CLASS. HIS LECTURES WERE NOT BORING AT ALL AND WERE VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND I DEFINITELY LOVE THE WAY HE LECTURES. YOU DO NEED THE TEXTBOOK AND THERE ARE 3 BOOKS TO BE READ TO DO A BOOK RESPONSE, BUT VERY EASY. HE GIVES PLENTY OF EXTRA CREDIT SO YOU'LL PASS EVEN IF YOU FAIL A TEST.
He was a pretty good teacher funny at times you really have to study outside of class and use the study guides he gives you those help out a lot
He was amazing teacher
Professor Phlegar is amazing at giving lectures. He is very passionate about history and is very funny so its a plus plus. His review is exactly like the test and quizzes so study those and he gives so many opportunities for extra credit so take advantage of that!
Professor Phlegar made this semester class go by with no troubles. He is lecture heavy, but it's interesting. But do take notes in his class. He gives you study guides, (which you can find on quizlet) study those and the test is right off the guide. You can just tell he is passionate about history and enjoys teaching.
Definitively, a nice prof for hist. He wants you to learn about it and gives enough time to do your reading. 25% of his grade is extra credit, so it is impossible to fail his class. Show up because attendance is 25% too. His lectures were cool and he's always on campus for any question.
cool teacher tbh, young and funny, he makes you buy an online text book, and the quiz is out of the study questions from the book, 3 book reports, chill class
If you ever had an emergency. He will really help you on getting caught up. I missed two weeks due to a emergency. Gave me as much time as I needed (a week extra to take my exam, quizzes and project
Best professor I've ever had. He's just amazing. I wish I could take him for all my classes.
It was an honor to have him for History. He assigns study guides which you need the required textbooks to do it. There is a research paper that takes up time so start working on it immediately. My only complaint is that he does tend to procrastinate occasionally. Overall, he is an excellent professor!
Professor Phlegar was the best history professor I've taken so far. He offers A LOT of extra credit that will bump you up a whole letter grade. His reviews are exactly like the test! They are time-consuming and require you to read the textbook, but it's worth it! We had 3 total tests (including the final) and an easy research paper. Take him!
I swear I hate History classes so so much and it's because I'm never good at remembering date and events. I took prof. Phlegar for summer - 6 weeks and it was so fun that I could never imagine that History class can be so fun like this. Got 3 test, each 50 points, 50 multiple choices. Everything is from the readings and maybe tiny from lectures.
He is not boring. I dont like history but with him I became interested. Highly recommend. Not an easy grade you do need to put your effort in it and read. Do the guide just do it. Great professor.
I toke this class in the summer 6wks and i do not regret it. Grade is based on 3 test which are based of 3 books (he gives you a study guide which is similar to the test) He gives out easy extra credit which helped me get an a. Take him!! Amazing lectures
I took him for the summer and it is great. read and do the study giudes on time and the test is the same as the study giude. Gives extra creidit!!!
one of the best teachers ever had, his test are hard if you dont read the books
Hes the best history professor I have ever had, 9 tests and an essay. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Read the books and youll pass, start your essay early or youll definitely wish you did. He drops your 2 lowest test grades UNLESS you miss a lot of classes. If youre missing a lot of class he will take 2 points away every absence after 2.
You take 9 quizzes but only 7 of them will count for your final grade. Do the study guides because they are super helpful for quizzes. Essay due at the end of the semester. That is basically it that goes toward your grades. Honestly I should not have taken him in person because it would be so much easier online.
Took his online 8W2 class. Online textbook so no need to purchase but you will need 2 info books. Purchase online cheap. 9 quizzes and he drops the lowest 2 scores. Several discussions and responses but all easy. Essay is for extra credit. Not required. Tests are based on his study guides. Easy A and you will learn alot. Take him!!
Professor Phlegar is, in my opinion, a pretty cool, laid-back guy who explains history in a relatable way. He gives study guides and extra credit so as long as you pay attention, read and complete the study guides you will do just fine. Mr. Phelgar is a good professor, and pretty young so he explains things in terms easy to understand.
Challenging class. Doesnt respond to emails. Dont take this class if youre quizlet depenant for quizzes, you wont find the answers. You MUST purschase the book- like 3 different books at that for this 1 class. And you MUST read to pass the quizzes. Good luck!
Reading your textbooks, being in class for attendance and lecture is key for passing this class. He's a really good professor and gives good lectures so they aren't boring. Plus the material is really interesting. Does give quizzes out weekly and exams after units so make sure you pay attention and study!!
Worst class I've ever taken. MUST READ 3 separate books & complete study guides, and this still may not be enough. Do not take this class if you are google/quizlet dependent. You will find almost no answers. If you actually read the class might be easy? I wouldn't know. I feel like I learned more about Nicaragua and Afghanistan than I did the US.
Worst paper topic I've ever had to write about. Only 3 exams count toward overall grade. Then the Paper... Discussion every week, Easy. Must read to pass the class, there are 3 different books you have to buy. Well 2, because the US History book is actually free online. The other books are confusingly written and pertain more to other countries...
I liked this class! There are two additional readers you must buy and read to pass the class and do well on exams but the study guides lay everything out perfectly and the tests aren't over the entire books. He gives you a different more real look on the US and while there aren't many grades, if you do the work and read you will get a get an A
C. Phlegar is awesome and I am so happy I took his class online. Grading criteria is clear and the professor responds to emails within 24 hrs. I made an A in this class! Study guides are provided, fill them out! They will help you tremendously on test. Also, start on the paper early and you should be fine. Follow all of the criteria! Don't slack!
lectures in class are what's going to be on the quizzes so take notes while he talks. One free online textbook, other two you have to purchase. Study guides are only for exams. One paper 3-5 pages on a hard topic. Strict. Very Sarcastic. You will not talk in this class.
I took his online course for History 1302. You literally learn nothing. It's all discussions and reading the textbooks--you need 3 btw. It's kinda messed up and annoying. A discussion each week, one essay, and 3 tests. Make sure you reply to 2 students for your discussions because if you don't, you basically fail. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend.
Take this class
Very clear, well-organized syllabus. Grade is based on tests + discussions + research paper. Very accomodating.
All the tests are straight from the textbooks
This Professor is a fair grader. Exams are not challenging. Reading the textbook helped me a lot for the discussions, but you could use the internet too. There is no attendance. Just make sure you do your assignments on time. You are required to participate in discussions, and they are for a grade. I would recommend this Professor to anyone.
This was an online class. Very hands-off professor. Rarely emails or engages with the class. No lectures or extra resources other than textbook. Weekly discussion and quiz over the chapter. Not challenging. Total of 3 essays. They were slightly challenging because he did not offer any examples of what he expected. Did not offer any feedback.
I took this as an 8-week class and will never take this professor again. He was late posting our work on the first day. He only graded one assignment that wasn't auto-graded during the 8-weeks. I didn't get my second or final paper back until the class was over and the 3 papers combined are worth 50% of the grade. IMHO, Pick another professor.
Definitely would take him again! I wish I had taken him for HIST 1301. He offers multiple extra credit opportunities. Responds to emails quickly. He leaves all work for that unit open from start to finish. Clear grading criteria and fair grader. Understanding of things that come up in personal life and will work with you if you communicate.
Professor Phlegar class for HIST 1302 was very straight to the point. There are weekly discussion posts that you have to write that correspond with each chapter you read; you then respond to 2 people's post. Each week there is also a weekly quiz with each chapter that contains 8-10 questions, very easy. Other than this there are 3 essays you write.
Professor Phlegar online for fall 2024. 1 quiz and 1 discussion per week. 3 unit test, 2 semester projects, extra credit is available. Work is very easy, there is a good amount of reading but you don't have to read all of it. The videos he provides are really helpful, notes questions are given you just have to fill them in. He grades late though.
Very easy class. I took History I and II with Professor Phlegar. Each week has a chapter to read, a helpful study guide, 1-2 videos, a short quiz with 2 attempts, and a discussion. Each unit has an exam. Towards the end, there's a project where you have to write about your life and how it connects with historic events or ideas. Would recommend.
He is accessible outside of class. There are 14 discussions post, 2 tests and 2 essays instead of a final exam. Extra credit is offered. Very manageable course. I would recommend starting the discussion post as soon as possible so that you won't forget any of them. I would take him again.
