He's an awsome teacher, gives clear notes. And exams come right from his notes, not the text book. If you study your notes you will do fine, his tests are a little tricky.

Prof Pickens is the best Bio teacher at SCC. His class is very easy if you follow the notes which are directly on his website. He is very understanding and will go out of his way to help his students. I took him for BY30 and I am taking him again for BY32.

This is a very tough course no matter how you look at it. Chris is smart and helpful but his tests are KILLERS. You have to know the information backwards and forwards. Know every detail. Just be prepared to work your butt off.

I just started an Accelerated RN program and already in the first week I am SO grateful to how well Professor Picken has prepared us. He explained everything so well that now I can grasp the next level. I could not have asked for more.

All i can say is that he is a GREAT Professor. If you study his notes, you will do fine on the exams (right from the notes!) We did not even need a textbook (Only if we wanted to further explore something). There is no better Prof. at Suffolk...and you know the reason...? He cares.

Extremely helpful. You won't need the text book. Outlines all important information that you need to know and gives it to you in a packet, but you need to understand the notes in order to get a good grade on his exams (requires alot of thought). You are guaranteed an A in lab if you show up.

Took his courses over a year ago and what he taught me still remains. He is EXCELLENT! Very personable,understanding. Will go out of his way to teach you. You can truly see he loves to teach! Honestly I don't even know where to start. Professor Picken is the absolute BEST Professor I ever had. The course consists of ALOT of info but Picken uses powerpoint notes and the tests come directly from his notes. I never opened the textbook and just memorized his notes and I got an A! You can't get lazy, study everyday and you'll be fine!

I had him for lecture only and once you get used to the Powerpoint lecture he gives, it is a breeze. He really knows his stuff and readily answers questions during lecture. The test are multiple choice, short answer, crossword puzzle, label the anatomy and 6 points of extra credit. He is great. If you work hard, you will get an A like I did.

AP2 is quite difficult. Don't take in same semester as another lab science. If I had it to do all over again, I'd avail myself of tutoring and would implement best practices learned from other students, e.g., recording texts of powerpoints onto mp3 and playing them back in car. He was a pretty good teacher with good presentations. you take 4 tests including the final and they were really hard. he only goes over the information once and you never review. He actually is pretty helpful if you ask him but if you dont he will just go on with what your doing. the labs normally dont go longer then an hour and a half to 2 hrs

I've had Picken for both a&p 1 and 2. He is by far my favorite teacher, very funny and personable. He is always willing to answer questions and cares about students. His tests are EXTREMELY difficult and you NEED to study, but he does offer bonus points and corrections. It's a hard class to get an A in but you will learn a lot. Definitely recommend

A&P is a hard class but he is the easiest bio professor I ever had. Don't buy the book just memorize everything from his power points. Vocab flashcards mandatory & 2 written lab reports. only 2 absences allowed. Test are very straight forward and first 5 questions wrong aren't counted. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Picken was the best prof I ever had at SCCC. Bio 130+132 are tough courses, but he makes them manageable IF YOU STUDY. All you need to know for tests are in his downloadable lecture notes, don't need to buy the textbook but you DO need to buy the lab book. He is clear and helpful. Everyone should take him for a&p!

Prof Picken is able to breakdown material to make it understandable. Lecture does get boring, but if you pay attention to him the class is an easy A.

Picken speaks at a quick pace. His favorite phrase is "essentially" (he says it 40 times a lecture). I highly suggest you record his lectures for a better understanding. Bio 132 is an extremely hard course. I took it at another university and got a D and retook it over the summer with Professor Picken and worked hard but earned an A. His lectures are clear cut and he explains everything extremely well. Very willing to help and explain. I would recommend him for everyone, although you need to study and put work in.

Long lectures but they are fair (it is a biology class). He's willing to answer questions during, before, or after class. Review sheets for the test are straight forward and accurate to what's on the test. If you print out the lectures and follow him, you will not have a problem. Bio 132, 3 lecture test plus cumulative final. 2 lab test plus 1 lab report. must do all pre-lab homework which was EXTRA CREDIT. All TEST have 5 bonus questions. So the first 5 wrong do not count. tests are 40 multiply choice and 15 increase /decrease or no change. ALL note are on POWERPOINT just need to read them, no book required, good luck!!!

Cares about his students, and if you have a question, he goes far beyond what any other teacher would do to help and explain it is you don't understand. 4 lecture exams, 1 final, has own website get a head start on the power points as well as index cards which count towards your grade . Tends to go very fast, rushes through the lectures , he is caring and helpful if you have questions. Study your own charts/videos/diagrams on google they will be more helpful

I have two words for you suffolk sharks - PICK PICKEN. He doesn't count the first 5 questions you get wrong on a test against you (which brings your test grade up 9 points!) I took anatomy with another great professor last semester, but struggled a lot for a B+. The curve in this class boosted me up to an A. Don't think about it, just PICK PICKEN!

I must say this professor really knows his stuff. Very nice person, willing to help all of his students. 3 lecture exams, 1 cumulative final, 2 lab practicals. His exams are tough but if you study his power points you will do good. 10 points build in credit on each exam. Final exam was actually easier then the first 3 lecture exams.

I can not say enough positive things about this man. Make no mistake this course is not for those who just want to wiz by, but as far as professors go he is extremely intelligent and kind. He went above and beyond to explain things to me whenever I needed a clearer description. If you dedicate the time and take good notes you should have no issue.

I think this Professor is doing anything he possibly can to make students succeed in his class, if they don't it's their fault. If you expect that you will get good grade in this class without studying hard, think again. But if you want to have an A and you are ready to work for it, you want this Professor, because he is the best.

Without a doubt one of the best professors I've ever had. Tests are easy if you study the power points. Everything on the tests are on the power point so you don't need the textbook. Uses analogies in real-life to help students better understand concepts. Lab Practical and Final is fair just study. I completely suck at BIO but he made so easy

He is a very good professor and explains everything to you. Make sure to take good notes and listen to everything he says in class which will help you with the exams.

One of the most clear spoken professors Ive ever had. PowerPoint notes were well designed and color coordinated. Lectures were always interesting and the information was easily retainable.

Dont need the textbook. All of his tests are based on the PowerPoints. Uses analogies in real life to help students learn concepts. If you need help he will give it to you outside of class. Great teacher absolutely recommend him

I took professor Picken for BIO132 and he did a great job at making the material understandable. If you are expecting these classes to be super easy then you need to think again. You have to put in the work if you want a good grade, So for those saying that he is trying to trick you stop being lazy and study hard. By far one of the best professors

I took him for the summer.. you're the man. very knowledgeable. study and study no secret. Everything you need to know is in the powerpoint. I thank him for putting his time making his powerpoint understandable.

Im laughing at some of these reviews lol. Yes, Anatomy and physiology is hard but you WILL NOT find a better professor to teach it than professor Picken. News flash! Youll have to study. Dont like it? Find another career path because if youre going the nursing route it gets much, MUCH harder. Youll be longing for the days of A + P

These classes are difficult but Professor Picken makes the material easier and interesting. He is always there to help and will answers e-mails in great detail when he can. He is also extremely approachable especially in lab. Highly recommend.

I took Prof P for a&p 1 and 2 &if u are thinking of applying to the nursing program I am here to tell u that This is the professor for u. PLEASE pay no attention to these whiny people talking about how hard his class was, clearly they are use to professors giving them the answers to exams .. this professor EDUCATES .. take him if u want to succeed.

The class is easy if you study his notes and study the test questions he hands out in the beginning of semester. He is always willing to answer and explain what you need to know on the test. I took him for the 5 week summer class and it was a good class. As for test, a midterm and a final for lab. as for lecture you have 4 test and a final.

He was a very good teacher. He lectured heavy but went in to detail fully over everything he discussed. He answered any questions you had to his best ability, also tried to answer quickly with emails.

this professor is amazing he really explains everything well. A&P is hard no matter what professor but this professor really explained everything well. If you really want to learn A&P and get a good grade defineatly take him.

I had him for A&P1 and he was so helpful. He really knows what hes talking about and the way that he explains things makes it so much easier to understand. The class went online halfway through due to covid and my grades dropped a littler but he was still really helpful. The final was really easy and is worth a lot so it helped my grade

I took professor Picken a year ago. He holds amazing lectures and really explains the material well in both lecture and lab. The class alone is tough but he will make you work for you grade. Grades were strictly from exams and homework which were flash cards (didn't account for much of your grade). I failed, but if you STUDY HARD, you'll do ok!

I took bio 105 with Professor Pickens. He give great lectures. Just got to do lots of studying and attend class. I will definitely take professor Pickens for A&P.

He is a very good teacher but also very monotone. His voice will put you to sleep if you are tired, so get a good night's sleep before his class. His class is online, so it is even less engaging. He grades fairly and will work with you on some things. Tests are not 1 of those things. Memorization is key, don't print the notes. Write them, it helps.

His lecture exams are straight from his notes so the majority of his tests are based on memory. He isn't a bad professor; however, I do feel he could take what his students say into account. There were many instances where students would ask for more guidance (test prep) and he ignored it. Easy to get overwhelmed with this class +10 points on tests

He's very smart and if you really want to learn then you should take him. I thought his tests were hard and you definitely will need to earn your grade.

Professor Picken is the best prof you can have for A&P. He explains every topic very clearly and is very fair when it comes to grading. On each exam, he awards students with 10 possible extra credit points so even if you get five questions wrong, you still get a 100. Even though A&P is a heavy class, he makes it very manageable and worth going to.

Professor Picken is a really nice teacher, and he knows every detail about the systems in AP2. If you have any things that you don't understand on the class, he will explain it well and make sure you can understand. All the exam questions come from the slides, so don't worry if you miss something on the class. Just pick Picken's class, guys.

Gives clear concise and informative AP lectures. Great teaching techniques and give great feedback. Available to answer questions and go assignments. Gives examples and demonstrations that makes grasping concepts clear and easier. Best of all there's No surprises what was presented and taught is whats on the exam

You will NEVER get out of his lectures early, & he might take 5-10 extra minutes to wrap up, especially if you take him on summer. He explains fast but thoroughly, gives 10 bonus pts on tests, and likes participation. By far one of the best biology professors I've ever had. BTW: I bought the online textbook, never used it; just take A LOT of notes!

Professor Picken is amazing, I am currently taking him for BIO 132 and it was rocky at first then got right back into it. He gives automatic extra credit on every exam including lab and lecture. He is so informative and truly loves what he does and you can tell. He definitely cares about his students success. Take his class!!!!

You can tell he is passionate with what he teaches. He does not seek out to students who are doing bad. After all it is college. So if you go to him he will be more than happy to help out! Everything is based off PowerPoint slides, and he provides review sheets for both lecture and lab exams that ACTUALLY help out! No homework so do good on exams.

Professor Picken is hands down the best biology/science professor at SCCC! His lectures are so informative and he gives you so many examples/ tricks to help you remember concepts. He gives you everything you need to be successful! If you put in the work and go to class you will do great. Will definitely take him for A&P I and II if I can !!

BEST A&P professor if you want to learn and retain the material. NO homework which is great, since you will have more time to dedicate for studying and preparing for the exams. Study hard and try to understand the material rather than memorize everything and you will do great!
