Really cool, easy to understand, keeps the class interesting.
Very simple class. Barely any homework. Professor is very unhelpful, and sometimes has startling bursts of anger towards students. Major assignments are vague and unclear, but graded to a comically high standard. Not the worst professor, but definitely not the best.
This class is super easy but you don't learn much and most of the semester is spent on what seems like a dumbed down version of Art History. He teaches by talking to the class while showing powerpoints. Also he makes alot of really dumb jokes and thinks he's really funny. We only had one major writing assaignmnet and it was very poorly explained
Class is easy at first. All lecuture/High stakes tests. Paper assigned does not follow course syllabus. Teacher does not explain what he is loking for AT ALL. simply says create a strong thesis. No other help offered. Good stdents will earn a B. not recomended if you need an A.
Class was boring most of the time, interesting every now & then. If you take notes from the PowerPoint he presents you'll pass the quizzes easily. Only 2 quizzes, 1 final & 1 paper assignment. However, he was very unclear abt the paper assignment & essay portion for the final.
He's very nice. Very understanding when you have a problem. Take good notes on the power points. Tests are fairly easy.
He looks like Food Network chef Alton Brown.2 quizzes.Final w/an essay.Everyone on here is right-he isn't clear AT ALL when it came to the first essay. He won't drop you,but come to class.Sarcastic &can be funny.Easy going guy.Hates when ppl don't answer his questions.Don't buy t.b.-never used it. Powerpoints everyday. 5 reaction papers. Take notes!
Lectures can be interesting, he urges students to take good notes to study quizzes. However, there are so many things to write down during lectures, and it can be hard to keep up with him. Very unclear about writing assignments and what to study for quizzes. Unreasonably high standards for writing assignments for such little direction he gives.
Writing assignment is unclear, but if you develop a strong thesis and stick to it, he'll give you a good grade. The quizzes are pretty easy and straightforward. Take notes during lecture and don't show up late. He hates kids who show up in the middle of class.
Best professor I've had so far. Take notes and you will be fine.
Take notes on the power point and attend class on time. You will pass this class easily. He was there everytime I visited his office, I don't understand why so many kids dislike him, he is actually very helpful and funny, and I did learn from his class. Just don't be late, and don't buy the textbook!
his the worst teacher i had in my life his so unclear about what we have to do and also too much writing during lecture and he doing power point and he goes so fast and its to hard to take note awful
His tests are hard and mostly fill in the blank. No study guides provided, and he gives out so much info in his notes you have no idea what to study. He also lets people smoke their E cigarettes in class.making it very hard to pay attention. Nice dude, but needs to be clearer. Seriously do not take!
C- instructor. You have to go to class every single day to succeed and take a million notes. Tests are hard, paper is very very vague. Nice guy though, very thorough powerpoints. If you get behind, drop the class you can't catch back up. And don't expect too much help from him.
Best lecturer I have EVER encountered. Class felt like story time. Three quizzes that were straightforward but you have to show up and take notes to do well on them. Final isn't cumulative. Five page thesis paper. There weren't printed instructions for the paper, but he repeatedly offered one on one guidance that was actually helpful.
Professor gives great lectures and tells interesting stories. I agree with others when they say the writing assignment directions are unclear but if you go to him with your ideas he will help you. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention to lecture and he offers an unbelievably large amount of extra credit and if you do it, it's hard not to get an A.
Eh. It was boring. I mean he is a coolish professor but when he turns on his powerpoint its time to go to sleep. I never ever used the $180 book, and his quizes are all on notes you're supposed to take on the powerpoints. Final project was the broadest topic ever, I suggest starting early on it.
No need to buy book. All lecture. Must go to class every day and take notes. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention. Good guy and makes class some what interesting
Coolest teacher, easy HW, Only helpful during the final paper,Quizzes are hard,No study guide for quizzes, you take a lot of notes and can get hard when there not on the test.
Grade C teacher. I tried hard in his class. I took his class in the middle of the afternoon &he's always 5 minutes late ATLEAST yet stares you down &stops lecture if you walk in late. Don't understand that one bit. NOT helpful at all with thesis paper ¬ clear whatsoever on topic. Super nosy about me leaving early even though I made every class.
first of all, you don't need to buy the two books. second, put it P/NP. there is 4 quizzes; the test is combination of MC TF and short answer. 10 reaction paper, and the 4 pages, 4 sources thesis paper. I don't believe people can get an A from him.
He expects university level work for his term paper, so definitely know how to write an essay. Other assignments in his class are much easier by comparison. The textbook is not required, but literature you will reflect on is. Listening to his power-point based lectures was very much a snore in my opinion.
His lectures are boring and the book to read sucks.
I can't put my finger on how to describe this guy, but arrogant, pompous and mean come to mind. Does not make lecture presentation notes available to students, talks the whole time so when you are trying to copy down his lengthy presentation, there's no way to even know what he is saying. Not helpful and NOT in it if for students
Rasmussen doesnt get enough credit for what he does. Never met another teacher more passionate about his subject, & he knows so much. Lot of people seem to not like him just because they dont like his rules (dont be late, dont text, read the syllabus for due dates) but its just immaturity. Uses PPT (not on d2L) but just learn how to take notes lol.
I am surprised at how many mediocre reviews are on here about him. In my opinion, his class was no harder than any other class at DVC. If you pay attention and take notes like any normal college-level student, you should have no problem in his class. His passion for this subject, as well as the topics he chooses to cover make this class great.
His classes are very boring and seem to never finish. His quizzes are difficult, there is papers due in almost every week and the final project is just way too much work. His funniness is just inexistant although he thinks he is the funniest guy ever
I have never rated a professor on here before but this guy made come here! He is hilarious but his quizs suck, tough grader, makes the course harder than it needs to be and will make fun of any student talking in his class (even for help). My class started off as full(35) but now there is only 18 students. 10 points max extra credit its a must!
Started out the semester thinking he was pretty funny & it would be a fun class to take. Within a month that changed & I dread going to his class now. He provides absolutely no help, even when I went to office hours. He's very rude to students and talks down to them, and his lectures drag on. Wouldn't recommend unless you want to torture yourself.
Not easy- do the reading a few times, pay attention, and show up. Do the homework early, it's easy to forget. The quizzes can have really randomly specific questions. Participate and make sure you're there and you should get at least a low B. Run your thesis by him before you write a paper, trust me.
I really do not understand all the negative reviews. Took his class last spring and constantly wish he taught for other classes that I require. Its a lecture class. If you cannot do the average work of a student (show up, take notes, do the work, study) then don't take the class. Always there to talk to in his office hours if needed.
Rasmussen is a great professor, he is really passionate in his lectures and although they go for the length of the period, I never found myself falling asleep. Always show up to class as the quizzes are completely based of his lectures. Overall, the class was not overwhelming with work and I found myself enjoying most of the subject matter.
If you are capable of taking notes and paying attention in class, you will do fine. He is very passionate about history and it's obvious when he teaches. 5 required SHORT (1 paragraph) opinion based papers, and one big thesis driven paper. No homework. His exams' are short quizzes all from class notes. Does not allow phones. Easy class overall.
Prof Rasmussen's was simple in terms of instructions. Just show up to class, take good notes and you will pass. He gives study guides and talks about everything that will be on his test during lecture so the book isn't need. One term paper, 4 "quiz/test" and 5 reaction papers (1 paragraph responses) Overall, it was a chill and interesting class.
If you cant remember 4 different cultures with 10+ specific names just for one quiz then don't take his class. 60% of his quizes are fill in the blank-no word box, no notes, no nothing. He talks down on students and is very demotivating. One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
He knows his stuff, he just doesn't know how to explain it very well. Has the tendency to say "UH" and "UM" a lot, which can get annoying after a while. Isn't really available after class. If you ask him a question about something, his explanations aren't very clear.
The subject is fascinating - the textbook isn't needed, but the inferno is. get your reaction papers done early, and pick a topic for your thesis and talk to him!!! He knows a lot about the subject, and offers plenty of extra credit - always stay for it after the test.
Lectures and subject matter were very interesting, quizzes are easy if you study lightly and show up to class. He is very knowledgable and accessible.
I took Mr. Rasmussen's Roots of Hell class, all lecture based, but he does a good job keeping the class engaged with the interesting material. Quizzes are a breeze if you study and pay attention to lectures and you can play jeopardy for extra credit afterwards. No homework besides 5 reaction papers and 1 thesis all semester.
Dr. Rasmussen is so knowledgable and passionate about what he is teaching that I actually found his lectures enthralling and fun to listen to. If you just show up to his extra credit jeopardy games after quizzes you receive extra credit. I cannot recommend him highly enough, especially if you need a course in Humanities for credit.
Does not care about his students. Only time he will help is with your thesis for your major thesis paper. Gives interesting lectures, although long. Main gripe I have is that this teacher does NOT give a rubric for papers; he just gives you a grade that you must accept. There is no explanation on why you received your grade. Every point counts.
Very passionate about the topics covered in Human-108. You won't need the textbooks if you take good notes and go to class each day. He gave us 3 quizzes, but you really need to study for them if you want a good grade. There's also one essay, which can be difficult for those who aren't skilled at thinking outside of the box.
His lectures are enthralling and he is a hilarious person. His class is fun to attend, so fun I took the Roots of Hell class for fun after taking his Ancient Civilizations class for credit. Quizzes are easy if you study, and you can always stay after to play jeopardy for extra credit. The thesis paper is a little challenging but he goes easy
Professor Rasmussen's lectures are so fun! He's so funny and always have the students' attention. Attending class affects your grades, so don't skip classes. It is important to take notes of what he mentions in class because he makes the test questions out of them. Show up, study hard, do the extra credit works and you'll be fine.
I loved his PowerPoint lectures, he made class fun and interesting, and I learned a lot! However, if you don't do well on the few assignments and quizzes he gives you won't do well. Good news is, if you don't miss classes and take good notes, you don't even really need the book and have your study guide material. Great class, just do your homework!
Awesome class, awesome teacher. Show up, read the textbooks and take good notes and you should pass. His class is so interesting and lectures are not boring. Take his class! He also is responsive to emails and wants to help you in any way he can. He also will clarify on anything that was vague. Take him!
Dr. Rasmussen is articulate, engaging and has a strong (sometimes blunt) sense of humor. Roots of Hell was by FAR one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken, and was such a blast to learn about. There is a big essay at the end of the semester but he gives you plenty of time to share it with him if you're nervous and want feedback!
Professor Rasmussen's class was very interesting. He is very passionate about the subject and as such, is very engaging in his lectures. Though it may not be as fun, for those who are uninterested in the subject in the first place. Taking notes is important, as the material for his quizzes rarely ever come from the book.
Lectures are very fun. He is very happy to help with anything outside of class. Hell is a very rare topic to find in colleges so a lot of the content that will be in the test are covered in class only. Knows a lot about the history of Hell and how different cultures perceive it. Quizzes very straightforward, all content. Only 1 paper per semester.
He is very passionate about his classes. This course specifically is filled with the different versions of Hell. He makes learning very fun. 3 exams that are fairly easy if you follow his study guide. Only one big essay but you have freedom to choose your topic. Hes a great person who loves what he does. I highly recommend him!
every class is lecture/take notes. Thesis paper is 5,000 words. He offers help and I suggest you use it. He helps you fix thesis, and what to talk about. I did mine the night before and got a good grade but i highly recommend starting as early as possible do not wait! Late submission is minus points. Do not slack. Take good notes in order to review
5 reaction papers (really easy 150 words) new prompt each week. Quizzes are hard & he only gives the first 20 minutes of class, so if you are late too bad. Huge study guide that half is not on the test but you must study thoroughly to get a good grade. people, exactly where they're from, & terms. Finaltest+essay prompt provided early to prepare
I will give him credit, he does know what he is talking about, but he was by far one of the worst professors I have had. If you do not know the specifics you will fail. If I had known how tough he was at grading and how much he expected I would not have taken the class. I would recommend going for another humanities class instead.
A bold man with a terrible sense of humor. His final project was very inhuman, you have to read a book called the Iliad which is a very difficult book to read.
Be prepared to do lots of work!! I thought this would be a fun, easy humanities close. Not at all. Yes, he has a great sense of humor but he expects a lot out of you as a student. The study guide for each of his "quizzes" are roughly 50-60 terms. None of his slides are online and there is no textbook. Every test is solely based off of his lecture.
I think that Dr. Rasmussen is a good professor in some aspects, but wow this class was way more difficult than I anticipated. The study guides for his short quizzes typically have anywhere from 50-100 terms on them. The quizzes themselves are very specific and very challenging. Don't take him unless you've very good at memorizing tons of info.
This was the first F i've ever received in my academic career. Way harder than I anticipated, especially the quizzes. Gives you study guides but they're about 7 pages long for a 2 page quiz. The course seemed super interesting at first but when we got to Dante's inferno I was burnt out. I will admit, I could have committed more time and done better
I put so much time into this class and still failed! :( I enjoyed the lectures, but his study guides were about 80 terms and the test itself was about 15 questions. Very overwhelming class and he will unquestionably fail you. Do not take this class unless you have 3-4 hours PER WEEK to dedicate to solely this class.
Class consists of 3 quizzes, a 3,000-5,000 word essay, and the final exam. While learning about the roots of hell was interesting, Rasmussen is a TERRIBLE person to be a professor. Never responded to any emails I had sent concerning grades and the class and is a harsh grader. I put so much hard work and effort and received an F as my final grade.
You can tell he knows what he is talking about during his lectures. The tests come from what he writes in his PowerPoint, which is only accessible if you come to class and take notes. He has a few exams and one final paper. He grades harshly but if you truly understand what you are writing about you will get an A in the paper.
If you wan to take this class you should be good at allocating your time well and knowing your own learning style. If you fill out the study guides for every quiz and study them you will be more than okay. AlsoHe also gives opportunities for extra credit and is really helpful if you go to office hours, but is a really tough grader.
Easily my favorite professor at DVC, and one of my favorite teachers ever. Keeps every lecture very interesting, through humor and interesting tangents. Willing to explain literally anything even remotely relevant in class. A tough grader, but not ruthless; gives extremely clear criteria. Great feedback, and extremely helpful in office hours.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class. There was a lot of information and he was very passionate about history. The class is pretty straightforward and all of his information comes from his lecture. He offers 10% extra credit at the end of the year. The quizzes are easy if you do the study guides. The hardest thing about this class is the 2500 word thesis
Beware that you are only graded by a few things in this class and the tests and quizzes can be challenging, especially if you don't take notes. The good thing about this teacher is that the classes are very interesting and there is little to no homework. I can really tell that the Prof. is invested in what he teaches.
I've never met a teacher more enthusiastic about the content he teaches. He truly loves it and the class oozes with his enthusiasm. Overall this made for an extremely enjoyable class. It was very easy on homework outside of one big writing project. After each quiz there was a game of jeopardy for extra credit. If you pay attention, you get an A.
Great professor, I loved his class. Roots of Hell was by far the best, and most interesting classes I have taken.
I loved his ancient civ class! Literally the best humanities professor. He is so interesting to listen to and the material is so interesting to learn. If you come to class everyday you will do well in this class as the material is very interesting. He does not post his lectures so you do need to be there to excel. He is a really great guy!
He's a really great teacher. He's really passionate about the subject of the class so everyone becomes engaged. Lectures are easy to follow. We only had short quizzes, one big paper, and a final with multiple choice and short essay prompt . Gives you a lot of sources for the big paper.
The class is very lecture heavy. He does make the lectures interesting with comedic remarks throughout. I found myself engaged in his lectures every day. When it comes to grading his class is not for me. You will need to be able to memorize hundreds of names of mythological figures and what they did throughout the year. He's a harsh grader as well.
no. don't take it. I'm sorry, but he is so mean. He lacks compassion and is a tough grader. He is funny and knowledgeable about what he is teaching but he is hard to approach for anything. Expects you to memorize very specific things and gives unclear study guide. Don't take this class with a heavy schedule.
His lectures at the beginning of the semester were fun but due to circumstances it was changed to online and he didn't have his stuff together! He posted lectures really late, gave very little feedback, and never responded to any emails. His expectations and standards are way too high. He's very close-minded to YOUR ideas about the afterlife too.
Amazing lectures! not boring. quizzes are based on lecture material, not hard if you have good memory. one big paper(3500 words).
Worst professor I have ever taken. Lectures were fun at first because of his sense of humor, but later on got annoying. He is a very harsh grader, expects you too know everything on exams, does not respond to emails and post lectures till last min. Study guides are little help on quizzes but not very much. Dont take this profesor.
Personally, I really enjoyed the lectures as he made the material entertaining and interesting. All of the questions on tests can be found in the lectures so as long as you take notes you will be fine. There is one long essay for the class, but you have plenty of time to do it if you don't procrastinate.
It was a really interesting class! His lectures were pretty thorough and informative. I felt like I knew everything after listening to them. There wasnt a required textbook, but there were Readings every week that consisted of 2-3 texts. The papers for the class werent difficult as long as you knew what you were doing. I would take it again!
Literally my favorite professor I've ever had. I took him for both roots of hell and ancient civ. HIs lectures are so easy to follow along with and he makes it all so engaging. No homework other than one paper, and quizzes.
I found his lectures funny and there's no doubt that this guy knows his stuff. Lots of writing - weekly discussion for participation points, 5 reaction papers of 200+words, 3 mid terms, 1 final and a lengthy paper - so lots of work, but it's seriously NOT hard and I actually learned quite a lot. I recommend taking him.
This guy will only post the quizzes and exams the day of, so if you have a life outside of school and can't get around to getting it done that day, you're screwed. Had some stuff on the final exam that he didn't even cover in class, never responds to emails and is a really tough grader. I would not recommend taking him, horrible professor.
He does give quite a lot of extra credit but don't take him in the summer. His grading criteria is so vague and there are huge essays that take up 30% of your whole grade. Not to mention he is a tough grader, it's impossible to get an A without the extra credits. He never posts his announcements, assignments or lectures early. always late.
I enjoyed this class! It was super interesting! The workload was heavy, and he definitely makes you work hard! There were lots of lecture videos and some things in the grade book were super weighted! It can be a lot, but if you keep up with him, this class is fascinating!
The tests on these were so hard. Not enough time and didn't let you go back to change your answer. There was a lot of information and wasn't very helpful.
6 hr worth of lecture a week. 3 quizzes and one final exam all timed and difficult. One final paper with topic of your choice. Wonderful professor who really knows his stuff however the class was quite time consuming and difficult.
Worst teacher ever
not a lot of work required, always take notes on lectures they make the tests sooo easy
I took Professor Rasmussen's Roots of Hell, and his Ancient Civ classes. I took both online, and I loved every second of it. A sure way to pass this class is to watch every lecture, and even take notes. In my opinion, the lectures were amazing and quite funny. I can imagine his in-person ones are as well. I learned so much and will miss him class!
Professor Rasmussen's lectures are AMAZING! I recommend his in-person classes (while they can be a bit difficult pacing-wise, the interactions he has with his students really makes the class more palatable)
His lectures are super long and they're basically a data dump. His tests are hard, he pinpoints a few things from the hours of lectures. How are we supposed to remember all that info? He won't help you if you ask for help. He doesn't know how to explain assignments. Only take this class if you're an attentive learner, otherwise you won't pass.
His lectures are so long, tedious, and boring. If you ask for help, he does not help you and I often found him rude and condescending via email. His final paper needed to be 2500 words (which is 5 pages single spaced) about ANY readings we did in class. He gave me feedback on the reading I chose and basically said that I wouldn't be able to do it.
I think If i took him in person I'd enjoy the class more. His lectures are great! idk why everyone's so upset, i think it's because they're long but it's not THAT bad. he's good at getting you interested in the topic in my opinion! the writing portion was tough though, so be prepared for that. tests arent bad but you cant go back on questions.
Unreasonably tough grader with few explanations. In general interesting content but little explanation on assignments.
The class has 3 quizzes, 5 reaction papers, and one final exam and essay. The quizzes are very straightforward and you can just study off the guide. He is a great lecturer and funny, content might get stale at times. Class is out of 100 points, but he gives out extra credit. Class is not a guaranteed A, you have to work for it, but it's not hard.
A tough grader, especially on papers. He was super nice and had bit of a "dorky dad" vibe (in a good way!). His lectures were really long, but generally very informative and engaging. The amount of assigned work wasn't high, but most assignments required real effort to get a good grade on. Gave great feedback.
Prof. Rasmussen is hilarious! His lectures made up the majority of the class material, so if you miss a class, trying to get notes from classmates is your only option to keep up. LOTS OF NOTES!
if you watch the lectures this class is golden, I learned a lot and I enjoyed his lectures (watch on 2x speed trust me). He does not often provide in-depth feedback on papers, but if you meet the requirements that are in the syllabus, its guaranteed full credit. def recommend!
Professor Rasmussen is a great Humanities teacher! His lectures are long and full of information. My advice is to split them up or watch a double the speed. His tests are decent, and his discussions are also simple. Be in communication with him and you will succeed in his class.
Very lecture heavy, awful if you miss a class, but it works for the course material. Doesn't share slideshows, but lectures are paraphrased readings so as long as you have the book you're fine. Took for fun to fill a semester, one of my favorite courses. Highly reccomend!
Long lectures yet manageable but his quizzes are difficult. He is not that bad a teacher but I absolutely hate that he will give you a bad grade with no explanation and then when you ask for help so you can learn what you did wrong, he does not reply at all. This class is only manageable if you're only taking one other class.
I took Professor Rasmussen for his "Roots of Hell" course, and had a great experience. Lectures are long and content heavy, but he presents them with enough energy to keep you engaged throughout. Your grade is based on a few short writing prompts, three quizzes, a final exam and one 2,500 word essay (you work on it throughout the entire course).
Horrible. He is good in lecture but does not care about his students. He is a harsh grader and you should stay away from this class if you want to maintain a high GPA.
Very good lecturer but very lecture heavy class and learned so much.;
This guy spent an entire 15 minute minute office hours appointment talking. I said maybe two sentences, before he cut me off and spent the entire 15 minutes talking, not letting me get a word in. Nothing he said was even relevant to what I was there for, because he didn't understand what I was there for, because he refused to let me speak.
mr rasmussen is a very straightforward professor. show up to lectures and take notes and you'll be fine. 3 easy tests that are based on the lectures. very little homework. SHOW UP ON TIME!! he will dock participation points if youre late. although lecture heavy, they're interesting and easy to understand so its easy to stay engaged throughout class
filled with anecdotal questions on the quiz for a biweekly 2-hour lecture-heavy class, most and I felt like most questions were like "who was the random artist we mentioned once made this archway" and is very reliant on making his question is very tricky with a slight variation with the wrong answer to the right one, Jeopardy's fun though.
I really enjoyed the class itself. The professor is a talented lecturer and the topics were interesting. One thing that I had trouble with was the grading system, it's based off of 100 points, so if you miss 5 points on an assignment, that's 5%. Also, the class is lecture HEAVY and he doesn't post slides, so if you miss a day, you miss a lot
Great professor and a great lecturer. This was the hardest General ed class that I've ever taken, but I loved how rigorous it was, it definitely pushed me to become better. Grading is out of 100 points, so don't miss any work; you can't afford to tank one day late for the papers. One point is 1% of your grade. He was generous, though.
Rasmussen's lectures are engaging, but the class is lecture-heavy and requires consistent effort. The quizzes and exams are challenging, but using resources like Unstuckstudy can help with effective study prep.
This class is not worth risking gpa. If you want to get an A you need to study like crazy before the tests and memorize tons of useless information. I was on the brink of falling into a coma almost every class bc the lectures are really long. Also he is a tough grader which makes the ten page essay due at the end of the semester very difficult.
You will do a lot of work in this class for something that probably isn't relevant to your life. Only take if desperate for credit. Professor is kinda weird especially about being late… also you will not pass if you don't take notes on every single thing! Good luck!
Get ready to defend every piece of writing you submit! Prof thinks that everything was written by AI and will give you an automatic 0 if he just so much as thinks you consulted AI. You must schedule meetings with him to defend your work or suffer from zeros. Also, never posts grades and has poor assignment communication. Study that damn syllabus.
Wanted us to follow the syllabus exactly, but wrote it very vaguely. He is also actively assuming you are using AI on everything and will not communicate that he thinks that until you notice you have a 0. If you do not want your GPA to suffer then do not take this. He also does not post grades, so you have to email him every time you want to know.
