Again I am disappointed with the math professors at the the University of Delaware. Dispite his plain appearance, Raymond is arrogant, impatient, and overall mean. He dictates from the book; however, his exams are hard and completely irrelevant. I dropped the class along with 10 out of 26 people. He has attitudes in class and is a really hard grade
you can not get worse than him
He is literally the most awkward professor I've ever had. If anyone is even a little late, he stops mid-sentence and stares them down until they are sitting and have books out. His examples are too simple and useless when trying to solve actual problems. Avoid this class.
I will agree that he is very anal about being on-time to class. But I don't think he's a horrible teacher. He gives good examples to help introduce people to a new topic. If you go to his office hours he's extremely helpful. His tests are hard, but it's calculus; if it were easy everyone would be taking it.
barely got a C in his class and I already took it in high school...most likely the worst teacher ever. tests are impossible and completely irrelevant to the material covered. helpful in office hours, but a pretty arrogant "i'm too smart for you" guy. avoid at all costs!!!!
Prof Raymond is well qualified to teach the class, but at times his attitude towards his students is a little unwarranted. Tough class; a lot of work can be expected to be put in for a decent grade. Do the practice tests, they are a great way to let you know what material will be on the test.
His tests are hard, but the practice exams are definately helpful. Although he says he's open to questions he gets frusterated if someone doesn't understand something, writing on the board really hard and even breaking a piece of chalk. Deep down I think he wants his students to succeed, but sometimes comes across with a "put-down" attitude.
Recommend trying to get a different professor. Very arrogant when asked questions in class and teaching style is mediocre. You will prob end up teaching most of the material to yourself out of the book.
A terrible professor who gives poor examples, forces attendance, and shows attitude toward students.
I disagree with most of what people are saying... I do believe that at times he can get a little frustrated when nobody understands and he can be somewhat arrogant on occasion, but for the most part he's a good professor and a pretty nice guy. I've also run into him a few times on campus and every time he's been nice and rather cheerful actually.
Very difficult professor.I learned more studying with my classmates then from his teaching.Examples are not very helpful and exams seem that he is testing whether or not we have mastered the most difficult examples of the material instead of testing for an understanding of the material.I saw students cry.Nice guy though
Very easy to understand what he's saying (unlike most of the math dept) but makes simple concepts difficult. He doesnt make any effort to help you and has extremely unrealistic expectations. This is a difficult course to begin with but he makes in near impassable. I did very well in calc one, a b in calc 2 and failed calc 3. don't take him.
Really terrible professor. Expects you to know everything after 1 example. Tests are extremely hard. Try to get a different professor for this class. Dont expect a good grade no matter how hard you try
All that I can say is that he pass me with a C when my exam average was like a 50%. Everyone does better on their final exam. Over 80% of the class gets aleast a C in the class.
Really smart guy. He will answer any questions given to him in class in a long, extended answer that more than clarifys any issue. Takes long approaches to introduce ideas that helps understanding. Great teacher.
Very nice guy and quite helpful. His tests are hard, but they do reflect what was given in the homework. Relatively open to questions and will explain a problem to death if you ask him about it.
DR. RAYMOND IS THE MAN!! although he expects to know the material before lecture and he's a little odd sometimes, he would do the homework for you in class or office hours. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND DO HIS PRACTICE EXAMS. They are very very very similar if not identical to the actual exam. Class is easy to pass, take him for calculus.
Horrible teacher DO NOT take him for calc. I loved math in high school and always got a's..this was impossible he went way too fast and didn't explain anything. Also was very passive aggressive when students asked questions. Tests are terrible. Ended up auditing it. Funny thing is he was nice when I went to office hours but can't teach in class.
Personally I think he's a good teacher. He's very middle of the road as far as how clear he is or how helpful he is in class. But his tests are easy if you know what you're doing but he is not good with partial credit, sign errors can result in massive point deductions. Just be careful and study and he will reward you. Homework is easy too.
Terrible professor. He is way too soft spoken for out 300 person lecture hall. He scoffs at you if you do not understand the material, he doesn't explain things very well, and apparently does not like partial credit very much. Oh, and he tried to tell my class we can't cancel (x-1)/(x-1) to 1. Yeah, avoid him at all costs.
First of all, he can't even speak english proficiently. Everytime a student asks him a question, he sighs resentfully. Exams are easy but will mess you up. He wants you to write the definition of Math on every single test. He wont let you use shortcuts on tests or on quizzes. Very strict and horrendous man. Avoid him at all costs. Seriously!
The guy knows pretty much everything there is to know about math but his lectures are confusing at best. He has bizarre grading policies and if you need help make sure you go to his office hours because he gets downright angry if you ask him a question in class.
Terrible teacher, has no interest in the success of his students and hates teaching. Lectures are pointless, he assumes you know everything about math and pretty much lectures directly from the textbook. He gets ticked off whenever somebody asks a question which is pretty annoying. I would try to avoid if possible.
WORST PROF EVER. I attended every single class, did all of the homework, asked for help when I needed it and still got nothing. He was a complete ass in class. He thought that we were all stupid slackers and got mad at the few of us who showed up every day. Switch out of his section if possible!!
Best math professor! I've had him for 242, 243, and now for 302. He gives homework and quizzes. His exams are fair. He really cares about everyone grasping the material. Wish I could take every math class with him!
I will never take a class with him as a professor. Worst experience ever... He get's frustrated every time a student asks a question, and talks back. You can tell he hates teaching so I don't know why he decided to be a professor. I used to love mathematics, and now I dread going to his lectures.
Raymond is not bad. In lecture, most people are scared to ask questions because he can be rude, but if you go to office hours he is extremely friendly. If you put an effort in to learn the material you will get an A. Exams are 3 questions each and very challenging, but master practice problems he gives before exams and you will be fine.
He means well, but can come across as a little harsh or unapproachable sometimes. He wants everyone to do well and learn. If you try in his class you should be fine. He will help you.
Many people in class seemed to dislike Raymond, but a many people also seemed to put forth next to no effort in the class. In lectures, he sometimes seems rude when people are unfamiliar with simple concepts, but if you see him individually he's one of the nicest guys I've met. Grades very fairly and will gladly bump you up a bit if you tried hard.
I wrote Raymond a bad review at the beginning of the semester, but give him a chance. By the time finals rolled around, I really got to liking him. Lectures are a little..odd. Exams are hard but the review sheets he gives are really helpful. Dr. Raymond actually does a lot to hlep you succeed, just give him a chance.
Most people hated this guy, but i didn't think he was that bad. His tests were reasonable. If you knew how to do the practice exams that he gives you, then you'll do fine on the tests. It's a pretty easy A if you actually know your math.
He was a miserable professor who seemed that he had no teaching experience. A TA who can barely speak english is better than him. This TA explained the problems in a thorough manner. He was a better teacher than Raymond. Raymond is perhaps one of the few teachers that can hardly teach.
Took it in winter b/c I nearly failed it with Hague... Very smart. Helped that I had bkground in 243, but even w/o that, he taught at a nice pace. Do the HW and practice exams a little in advance. If you have questions, ask him; he'll explain it till you get it. He can tell if you haven't done the HW. So do your part and the exams won't be hard
A lot of people say he is hard or mean, but he genuinely wants you to succeed. He doesn't take well to questions about stuff a MATH242 student should know, but if you ask him a pertinent question he is great at explaining. Like I said, if you put in the time he really wants you to succeed, and you will give you all the help you could want.
Without a doubt, the BEST prof i have had at delaware! he may not necessarily answer dumb questions in class, but if you go after class with him, or to his office hours; he will help you with ANYTHING! hell, he even helped me with a class i was taking with ANOTHER PROF! great guy, great prof, take him if you get the chance!
i got a 50 on the 1st and a 60 on 2nd exam (all my own fault). i then went to his office hours multiple times per week for help. come the 3rd exam, and the final; i aced them both! numerically, i probably should have got around a C, the guy helped me immensly and weighed my 3rd exam and final much heavier, and gave me an A!
Raymond is an average teacher. He is just a jerk. The man will ask if anyone has questions and then scoff when no one has any but if you do ask one he basically laughs at you for not understanding and has made fun of kids. He also grades like a tool. He takes huge amounts of points off on tests and doesn't show how to do it or what was wrong.
Not understanding all the hate for Christopher on here. He's a nice dude, who teaches clearly and rigorously. He's helpful and the class is easy as far as math classes go. He receives my my second to highest recommendation.
After a while, I just started reading the book because it was much easier to comprehend than his lectures. He also got irritated with certain questions people would ask. Overall, the thing that bothered me the most was that he assigned even numbered practice problems from the book so there was no way for us to check our answers after doing them.
A mumbling, unprepared jerk during class. Expects too much of his students. Go to class to see what he covers and then read the book. Actually helpful during office hrs even if you have no understanding. Tests are easy and straightforward but takes off for small errors in calc concepts. Got As and Bs on hw and tests, failed the final but got a B+?
If you bother to try at all, and get help from the professor, you will pass easily. And if you are any good at math, you will get an A. Sometimes he would get impatient if no one had an answer for him, but otherwise very pleasant experience. ^.^
Did not enjoy the class at all. I am probably switching to a different section of 243 because he is my professor. He doesn't explain things well because he doesn't relate to people who don't already know the material. I never went to his office hours but I went to plenty of other people's office hours to understand everything I was missing...
While Dr. Raymond can be a little awkward and harsh on students, he is overall a good teacher. This class will be pretty tough if it's your first calc class, but honestly, it's college; profs expect that you will do more learning on your own and get help when you need it. As long as you do the hw and practice tests, you'll end up w/ at least a B/B-
Raymond is the worst professor ever at UD. He is extremely rude towards students and unwilling to help or budge. His test are completely inconsistent with the material in class, which is also inconsistent with the textbook. He makes every concept overly challenging and then expects all student to understand immediately. DO NOT TAKE WITH HIM!
Try and take with any other instructor. He is not awful but test are not consistent at all with class work and text book.
HORRIBLE. test had nothing to do with material
Unprepared, incomprehensible notes on board which he tries to test on. Rude towards any questions and gets frustrated when people do ask questions or when people do poorly on tests and quizzes. Worst prof at UD, avoid at all costs
Not as bad as people make it sound on here. He can be rude when you ask questions. But overall he is a good teacher. Expects you to do a lot of problems on your own. Fairly hard tests.
Smart guy. Doesn't know how to commuiate with his students or get concepts across. I've taken calculus I and II in high school and still found his Calculus I difficult. Don't expect to waltz in with a high school understanding and expect to get an A. I passed the Calc AB and BC test and still got a C in his class. Very difficult. Go to office hours
Tests are fair IF you do problems from book and actually understand not memorize the material. give lots of hints. nice guy. sometimes fails to realize that all of the students are not masters of the material. quizes are easy and he really NEVER tries to trick you. No maple in 243
Do not, under any circumstances, ever take a class taught by Raymond. His lecture notes are near useless for the homeworks. His tests appear manageable but his grading is completely unforgiving. No curves, no leeway of any kind. I tried going to office hours and he was downright rude. Never take his class
Best 351 teacher at UD. Really cares about students, gives practice exams and holds review sessions the night before exams
Eager to help, exams were easy, but explanation wasn't the greatest. Good overall class, No maple. I would recommend Professor Raymond
So, maybe his social skills are a little rusty because of all that math genius. He can be slightly combative with lazy/texting/sleeping students, but if you make a NOTICEABLE effort and are respectful, he'll do everything possible to help you pass. Sometimes he can't comprehend our pitiful, lowly questions but overall a great professor.
lectures do not help. assigns too many webassign problems. gets mad when students ask questions or come for help...
Not the most articulate but Dr. Raymond wants you to do well. He is always willing to help especially if you make an effort. Hes very caring and I recommend him.
AWFUL avoid at all costs
I took ap calc in high school and thought i was going to ace this class but he is not that good of a teacher. He is very uneasy with questions and doesn't like when people ask them. Probably not a professor you want to take.
If you expect an easy grade, then don't take this class. Professor Raymond would often get angry when students would ask questions during lecture. However, it's not impossible to get a good grade in his class. He is much more helpful during office hours, and as long as you show you care, he'll be willing to help. Make sure you do the homework!
Overall a good professor. He cares for his students and teaches the material well. He's not the greatest at having a conversation with, but he's a good guy. Don't expect a good grade even with AP Calculus experience. The exams are difficult. Attend class and do webassign and you'll be fine.
He is a very quiet and reserved teacher. He mumbles in class and does nothing but proofs with not many examples. He also becomes furious when someone asks a question in class. Don't take unless you are strong in calculus.
I personally enjoyed raymonds class, his tests were maybe even a bit too easy other than the first one. He implores students who have any questions to come see him during office hours. Like with most math classes you have to do some practice problems by yourself. Overall very reasonable man.
Probably the worst calc professor ever. I took calculus BC in high school and received a 5 on both parts of the AP test and still was lost in his class. He doesn't teach at all. I understood everything based off my previous knowledge until he puts ridiculous things on exams.
I LOVED Raymond! I have no idea where these negative reviews are coming from! He WANTS us to ask questions in class and when the class didn't do wel on the first exam he made the last three incredibly easy. He does problems from the textbook in class and cares about the students. Recommend 100%
DO NOT TAKE, TERRIBLE
Not very accommodating and went very fast during lecture.
He is a horrible teacher. He asks for questions and treats students like idiots when they ask them. All he does is copy proofs from the book onto the board. He faces the board more than the class. He also treats his TAs like idiots as well. HORRIBLE TEACHER. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!
I only did well because of what calc I learned in high school.
Dr. Raymond is one of the strangest people I have ever met. He comes off at first like he doesn't want to be there but this is furthest from the truth. He jokes around in his awkward sense of humor and does many examples in class. He is pretty laid back and his homework is what you expect for exams. Great guy if you give him a chance.
Raymond is a mediocre professor. He writes notes way too fast on the board so it's hard to absorb the information and he's not that great at explaining things, I taught myself often. Homework problems are harder than the test problems usually so students generally do well on tests. Not an easy A but definitely won't fail.
I personally really enjoyed having professor Raymond. He really cares about what he is doing and wants everyone to understand. He sometimes comes off as rude but he just gets frustrated when he has to keep repeating himself, since it is a tough course and we are limited on time. Exams are pretty easy as long as you understand the homework.
Raymond is a great professor. I took 351 with him and I thought it was fair. At first I didn't really like him because he got frustrated when people asked questions about things he already explained. But as the semester went on, he became a much nicer teacher. He gave us practice exams before each midterm too. Definitely take this class with him
Professor Raymond is fantastic. I had him for math241 as well, and I could tell that he really enjoys teaching this class over that one. Not much homework, but make sure you understand all of it. Tests were straight forward. Fair grader. No quizzes were given at all. Go to class since the material is complex. Would absolutely take again!
243 is a hard class no matter who you take. The tests are standardized, so everyone takes the same exams, its just a matter of which professor prepares you the best for it. Raymond prepared me more than enough for the exams, but the only problem is he's terrible at teaching. Be prepared to read the book and relearn stuff on your own if you want A
I didn't have Raymond but I went to all his review sessions because I thought he was a much better teacher. If there's a professor to take for any differential equations class at UD, it's Raymond. Help sessions are very helpful and Raymond is a really nice guy who's more than willing to help his students by any means.
I had to retake Calc because of this guy. He teaches from the textbook. Lecture is him with his back to the class while he scribbles on the chalk board. All he does is write the proofs down on the board. He also has very little patience for questions and tends to come off as annoyed when someone asks a question or doesn't know the answer. Bad.
Class is way to hard! He teaches with his back to the students and continually does proofs instead of any actual problems. Will not take him again. Exams throw curveballs and the quiz's are impossible. Not due to the questions mostly, but due to the time! You have to rush through them.
Tried to teach the concepts behind the things we learned but didn't teach how to do problems. The only saving grace was the TA. Use your TA for questions or just plain them telling you exactly how to do problems and the steps to do. He teaches with his back to the students and his voice annoys everyone, but makes a funny noise if he makes an error.
Raymond genuinely wants his students to do well and therefore makes quizzes and tests pretty straightforward as long as you pay attention in class. Does lots of review in and out of class before tests and answers any questions students may have.
I took calc in hs, so it was easy for me, but I'm not convinced he was very understandable for other students. He does problems all class, and I thought it was clear. TA was confusing so I stopped listening early on, but students really should not skip if they don't get it. Go to class. I liked him, but results may vary. I thought he was funny.
Took him for MATH242 over winter session, one of the best math professors I've ever had, intelligent, and very clear at explaining things. 242 is hard material but he held review sessions, and really cares that we learn things. Homework took forever but the exams were very straightforward if you put in the work. Will take again if I can
I took this class not having taken AP Calculus in highschool and nothing was explained, He had his back to the board and only went over concepts. I have never taken harder tests and his quizzes are BS, take a different professor
he keeps his back to the board throughout the whole class. he basically asigns homework, doesn't go over how to do it, asks if you have questions then sighs when you raise your hand. exams are hard and no opportunities to raise your grade
He is too much for calc2. Try to avoid him. tough grader , no partial credits is given easily.
Avoid Professor Raymond if you can. He barely shows you how to do problems, he just goes over theorems in class and expects you to learn the whole course from the textbook. If you ask a question or ask for clarity on something, he looks at you like you're braindead and makes you feel like an idiot.
Raymond is an extremely difficult professor. Your grade is extremely dependent on the three exams and the final. Besides homework which doesn't count for many points there is nothing else that will help your grade. He makes attendance mandatory and genuinely rude. If you ask a question in class he sighs and gets angry like it's not his job.
Raymond is not the easiest to communicate with. He kind of breezes through definitions and examples on the board which forces students to look over concepts on their own. Exams aren't too bad and lecture quizzes help prepare you. Do the practice exams he gives you and definitely do the WebAssign homework early for extra credit points.
This was honestly the worst class I have ever taken. I didn't learn anything because every time I asked a question, he would be angry and raise his voice and make me feel stupid. the homework wasn't that bad but it was only 10% of my grade so it really didn't help. studying didn't help either. He was just a bad teacher. Waste of time.
He doesn't accept people's basic question's or repeat questions -- if someone asks a question and you are still confused, he isn't a professor who is open to re-explaining. His lectures are basically a robot speaking, he looks at the board continuously and speaks as if the chalk board are his students, his office hours slight help.
His tests are hard
He looks like your average dad. He can be intimidating at first but is actually pretty nice. His lectures are really helpful. Quizzes are announced and fairly graded. Definitely one of the better math professors at UD.
The complaints here (no extra credit, no curves on difficult exams, etc.) are stuff that's the same in ALL sections of MATH241/242. You're not going to find a calc prof at UD who lets you slack off. Prof Raymond is very clear, goes over how to do problems, is accessible at office hours, and announces all quizzes. The rest is up to you.
The class is easy, but he is the hardest grader in the world. You can get a 60 on a test after getting every problem right because you don't show the work he wants to see. He talks with his back turned to the class. He also gets mad when people sneeze in class which is very annoying.
He is a nice professor. However, he is rather glib during many lectures. His lectures are very interesting and there's a lot to learn
Really smart and caring professor. Offers plenty of office hours and review sessions for exams. Both midterms are fairly straightforward and simple if you practice enough problems. He wants to get to know everyone's name. Several HW assignments at a time so definitely get started early. He prepares you well for exams and does plenty of examples
Decent Professor. Very understanding. Slept through 20 of the 30 minute lecture quiz and he let me make it up later that day.
The Webassign Homework was annoying to do and pretty tedious. I learned way more from my TA in the discussion section than I did in the lecture. Raymond was knowledgeable in the subject but his lectures were kind of hard to listen to. Just go to discussion and do all the homework and you should be good.
Tests/Quizzes account for 80% of the grade (20 for each midterm, 30 for the final, and 10 for quizzes), so it is critical you do well on these. If you attend lecture and do all the homework, you should get the material down well. He provides several old exams for each midterm that are very helpful for studying. All in all he's a great and funny guy
The test make the difference between an A and a C. It was my first semester and I took AP Calculus in high school and received a 2 on the exam. Math has never been a strong subject for me but the way Raymond teaches I would be lost if I had not already taken Calculus. His lectures were confusing at times but he is nice and will help in office hours
if you want to take MATH241 RUN AWAY!!! he is the worst math professor I have studied with, he gives a lot and a lot of homeworks every week to the point it makes you throw up, and they are hard questions too!!. he is COMPLETELY LOST he doesn't have slides or anything, he just writes stuff on his iPad and expects us to understand. and the test hard
Listen, if you have another available professor rather than this, go for it. I do not know how a Math professor does not know how to distribute points on an Exam. Also, be aware that a single multiple-choice question could have 4 or 5 points. Calc1 is too easy, but he makes everything hard, even 1+1.
He gets very passive agressive if you ask a "dumb" question or re-ask a question. He sometimes answers your question with another question, which can make it more confusing. He was late to his office hours and couldn't help us so he sent the answers. Overall, he is an okay professor, I would still take him again, grades fairly.
So much webassign 33+ webassign homeworks in a Math243 single semester which will have you spend over 8+ hours because each question takes atleast 10 minutes and there is usually 20+ questions in a single webassign.
DO NOT TAKE RAYMOND'S 241 CLASS! He gave us about half of the quizzes he promised and double the homework assignments, is never prepared for the lectures, and takes ages to grade tests. We took a test about two months ago and just got the grade back yesterday!! Impossible to pass a class without knowing your grades.
Although Dr. Raymond is intelligent and knows what he is talking about, he seems to worry too much about moving on and often gets frustrated when someone asks a question or asks to move back a slide or two for a few seconds to finish copying something. He records the lectures but posts them just before or the week of the exam as a compilation.
When I took his class in the fall, we took a midterm and it was graded a *week* before our final after we emailed the head of the department because he literally just hadn't graded anything and no one knew their grades. He gets annoyed with questions and honestly is one of the worst professors I've had to deal with. Avoid him if you can.
He is a knowledgeable professor and certainly wants to see his students succeed, but he sometimes spends too much time talking about the proof or theoretical part of a math concept and not enough time doing example problems. He's always happy to help a student in need despite sometimes conveying an annoyed tone of voice when answering questions.
I took MATH243 this semester and got over 100% as my final grade. The class itself isn't too hard, but you HAVE to have very good conceptual understanding of 241 concepts. Definitely attend lectures. Get early starts on homework. Great professor and class overall, seems more geared to math majors though. Tests almost mirrored test practices.
Tests account for a large portion of your grade, which I don't personally like. There probably isn't enough homework assigned, but it is hard enough to prepare you. He is a really nice guy even though he seems intimidating. If you study you will get an A. You will need to study though, even if you are good at math.
MATH243 isn't going to be easy no matter who you take, but at least with Prof Raymond you can guarantee a good understanding if you put in the work (a lot with this course). I would strongly advise attending every lecture possible (take thorough notes) and there is a lot of mandatory homework. I was overwhelmed at first, but kept working and was ok
Class was quite boring; I slept through many of his lectures. He grades fair and based on a rubric. The final was brutal, too many laplace transform. Overall, the class was alright.
Painfully boring and monotone, basically rereads the textbook to you like a robot. Slowest grader of all time and a tough grader
99% of this class is graded by the TA's. There are some really good TA's that clear up any confusion you have from the homework and lectures. The lectures are just going over textbook problems, he doesn't really stop for questions. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't want to get lost you should try to go to every lecture.
Prof Raymond is a nice guy. There are weekly web-assign homeworks you can get extra credit on. He is good about asking if anyone is confused during lectures, and he does practice problems. If you do the discussion worksheets, homework, and practice exams, you will be well prepared for the exams.
Change prof if you can. Prof. Raymond is excellent at math but bad at organizing the class. No office hours were held until the end of sem, no lecture notes were posted, the canvas page was a mess, and the long quizzes weren't graded. I trusted his expertise but was so lost in his class. He's willing to put no effort as a professor.
Attendance is absolutely mandatory to do well in this course. I highly recommend utilizing the online textbook for practice problems as that is gonna be your main way of determining if you really know the material. This course is going to probably be your most difficult course of the semester so practicing everyday is crucial.
Do the homework/discussion sheets to prepare for quizzes and tests. Your TA will make or break this class. Lectures are recorded and it is beneficial to take notes. There are quizzes in discussion every so often. If you do the practice and study you will be fine. He gives practice tests that look just like the real thing.
Professor Raymond seemed to know his material very well but his class was completely disorganized - our grades were never put into Canvas; we didn't know our overall course grade until it showed up in Canvas. Despite answering questions clearly, he came across as frustrated and condescending when students didn't understand his lectures.
It's so difficult to truly grasp what your grade is for the course because he uses two separate platforms: Canvas and WebAssign. Your homework grades are not together with your quiz grades, not to mention he lacks grading our tests so it's really hard to get an accurate visual of what exactly your grade is. He also hardly uses Canvas.
Excellent professor. Cares for his students.
This old bot doesn't teach anything related to the content and rarely does practice problems, so you're basically teaching yourself. Lectures are not mandatory, but are not helpful in any way. He is rude, and does not care about his students failing because he thinks that's a you problem. Discussion worksheets are not organized, worst prof!!
Don't expect to learn much in lecture, and expect even less from the discussions. Don't even bother asking questions, you'll be met with a condescending attitude. The organization of this course is horrible. No supplemental lecture recordings or even assigned readings will be given and Canvas is never used correctly, if at all. Best of luck.
Words cannot describe just how awful this professor is. He quite frankly sucks. His lectures teach the most basic components of the material, leaving the important, more difficult portions to your imagination. Of course you could ask questions for clarity, but you'll only be met with condescension. The discussion sections are equally useless.
Awful professor, lectures are very confusing, freestyles notes, you'll have to teach yourself the rest. Very little if any material to learn from, thinks the textbook is your key to success. Don't bother trying to ask a question, you'll be belittled into answering is yourself. Doesn't care about student concerns, spare yourself the grief
Professor Raymond is easily the worst calc professor on campus. Don't ask questions unless you want to feel as though you do not belong in this course, cause that's how he responds to you. Is not flexible with helping you in any way shape or form. Incredibly boring. Exams are pretty much your grade so dont fail (good luck).
If you plan on learning calc three in this class you'll be greatly disappointed. Prof. Raymond is rude to his students for asking questions and he is very condescending if you do not understand a concept. Your entire grade depends on the exams; however, he rarely goes over practice problems and he doesn't go over material on the exams. Do Not Take.
He's funny in the way that I can't believe how rude he is. Laughs in your face when you ask a question. Takes forever to do one example and still doesn't explain it well. Teaches surface level content then has quizzes with stuff he didn't teach. Asks people to answer questions nobody knows, then gets mad when no one answers or answers incorrectly.
Its a mystery how I got a B+. Prof Raymond can be nasty to students when they ask questions. He doesn't teach the material well as I'd be completely lost on each homework. 1st midterm & final were impossible (class average in the 50s for both) Nobody has any idea what is going on in the class because he's terrible. Avoid Prof. Raymond AT ALL COSTS!
I think he's just a miserable person. He is so condescending when people ask questions, calls out people in class, doesn't sound happy or excited teaching, just bad overall. Doesn't post recorded lectures or notes, tells you to read textbook instead. Final was worth 35% and the average was a 53 with no curve. Genuinely my least favorite prof at UD
Shocked to see a sub-3 rating for this gem of a man. He might seem a bit standoffish at first but he's actually very sweet, just give it time. Fewer assignments than originally promised, and dropped several hw/quiz grades to make up for it (they weren't hard anyway--3 attempts per problem). Exams aren't bad, and he brings candy. Nice grader too.
Horrendous teaching style, ask him to clarify and he repeats word for word and blames you for not getting it. Some of the hardest stuff taught in the worst way. Your main grade is from tests and quizzes, can do well purely if you try hard and because the grading scale is in your favor.
I cannot believe he has a single positive review. Lectures are terrible, does not post his notes, or recordings of the lectures. Lied on the syllabus about how many quizzes there would be and how they would be graded. Exam averages were 20% lower for his exams compared to other classes. Don't trust the positive reviews, take any other professor.
Avoid Professor Raymond's MATH243 class at all costs. He's rude, condescending, and fails to effectively teach the material. The exams are impossibly difficult, with class averages in the 50s. However, Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prep - much better than the unhelpful textbook.
Every quality that a good teacher has like patience, communication skills, or passion for the subject is lacking with Raymond. He had to be dragged by the dean to actually put material and the syllabus on canvas. He doesn't answer emails and will yell at students for asking questions. RMP was created to warn students about profs like this. DNT!
He has had a reputation of being condescending and derogatory to his students in the past but I had a great time with him. His content moves really slow ensuring everyone understands the concepts and his exams are also pretty easy.
He is just not good at explaining or teaching things. He often gets upset when students ask questions. We went almost 2 months before he put anything on canvas. The exams were easy but I would do everything possible to avoid him.
I mean, the guy is sweet, but VERY unprepared and disorganized. I kinda feel for him, it's like he wants to be great but just can't be. He is very helpful with the exams and review and is always around to help.
a really sweet guy. the exams were straight forward, but the final exam was 40% of the final grade for some reason. for some reason we didn't get the syllabus until like week 8 (?). very disorganized this semester! he was more organized for math243.
The course itself was easy math ideas but the professor made the class tougher to understand. The homework wasn't related much to the exams but the lectures were related to the exams. The problem is the class pace is very fast and boring if I attend it but if I rewatch the lecture at home I understand better. He wasn't respectful much for questions
