Awesome teaching! idk what the last reviewer was saying, the prof is a MALE not a FEMALE! chris is bomb! try as hard as you can to get him!
GREAT TEACHER!!!! He helps you actually become a better writer and thinks of his students as a priority. The first review must not be about him, he is a male not female! Definitely take his class!
He's a great teacher, and I hate most teachers. He keeps things up beat and fun. He's very passionaite about eng. and it shows, but it's an entertaining class. He's loud and has opions about everything, which is good. Tells things like it is and is forward. Does not pull punches, if your paper needs sucks, he'll tell you. Chicks will think he's hot
He is awesome! He really does love english and it shows through his teaching. His papers do take work, but his passion spills onto you and you become so involved in the class. Take him for sure! He is wonderful.
He has everyone to pointless assignments, if you fail one you are in the hot zone. On top of all that he has weekly posts that are 20 points and if you don't do them you are (S.O.L).
He askes for too much!
Great teacher. By far the best English teacher I have ever had throughout high school and college. Makes everything clear and if you do your work it is impossible to get lower than a passing grade. Favorite teacher.
Amazing teacher. You have to pay attention in class and do all the assignments to pass. Very clear on what he expects. I recommend him to any and everyone who will be taking Eng 101
Reider was a great teacher, very nice, and extremely energetic (especially when he had coffee!!). He is creative in his methods, and he enjoyed the shock factor a little bit. Towards the end of the semester he got a little snippy about minor things, but I believe outside factors contributed to that a bit. Overall, a great teacher.
He is an awesome teacher. If you want a good class hes really up beat and lets you know whats up. thumbs up all the way :D.
Best teacher ever!!!
Best teacher ever!!! Take him u will not regret it.
He's a great teacher, and even a great plant waterer if that's a word! I definitely recommend taking his class. :)
You write a ton... but duhh it is english. He is nice. I would recommend taking his class!
Mr. Reider is extremely energetic. He compressed 16 weeks into with the greatest of ease. I definitely recommend taking him, and would do so if I were pursuing an English degree!
at first chris seemed really great- funny, personable, and relateable. then he introduced material that some students and i found offensive. when brought to his attention, told us we needed to suck it up or drop the core class. he was not accomodating and refused to work with us students. very unprofessional.
Chris was a great profeesor took his class over he summer and learned so much abou writing that im constantly seeking his help this semseter with projects because i value his opinion.
Mr Reider is a great english teacher. He is so clear about his essay assignments, he gives you at least a 5 page handout that he goes over on exactly what he wants in your essays, which include outlines for you. He grades your rough draft so final is near perfect. Only people who don't do good with him just don't try. One of my favorites
Makes learning fun. Very energetic and personable. Challenges you with recent and pernient information. You can tell he loves what he does. Out of all my teachers in my lifetime, Mr. Reider is my favorite. I came to school for the G.I. bill, I stayed because he made it a blast!
4 essays in class, super helpful. i enjoyed his class a lot!!
Awesome instuctor. He really cares about his students. He tells you exactly what he wants and when assingments are due. Everything is so clear in his class. He is a tough grader, but gives you plenty of time to make essays better. He is very respectful and fun to be around.
At first, he seemed like a very good instructor. However as the smesiter progressed, he became stubborn when it came to every assignment. It was hard to understand of what was required. Also, be aware he is very strict on being tardy, and putting your head down for a second. Overall, would not recommend. Choose your classes early!
Reider is a FANTASTIC teacher. If you actually want to learn and get an A in his class, you have to care. If you're looking to slide by and do nothing, take a different teacher. Reider cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I wish I had him for more of my classes. His assignments aren't too hard and he will always help. Amazing!!!
He's a nice guy, and pretty funny. There are multiple out of class required events. You don't go, you don't pass his class. NO late work! Doesn't give a lot of instruction before you write your required essays. Many people FAILED their first essay, but gives you a chance to correct for a better grade. DO the assignments! Not an easy class.
Really great professor overall. I was an AP English student throughout high school and was worried when going to a community college that I would not be satisfied, especially in ENG101, which I had already taken. Reider really makes students think and stay actively involved and think critically. Taking his class again for 102!
A very good teacher. His essays are stress free because of how prepared he makes you during the section of class. He's helpful with struggling students and challenging for students who are already good writers. he's also really funny so class is always fun and interesting. Definitely not a teacher to grade on his own opinion but very open instead.
mandatory out of class events required. Lets you make corrections for a better grade on essays, but is a brutal grader. A lot of people around me failed their 1st essay. Is not flexible with assignments and due dates. He's o.k. just don't get on his bad side.
Excellent educator. A credit to the profession. His class is challenging and requires you to expand and think outside your bounds. His essays were tough but his preparation for them was extremely thorough. No one to blame for a bad grade except yourself. A very firm but fair grader. Every essay was allowed a revision after being graded.
Great Professor!!! He's funny and nice. There are 4 essays you have to write and he is a hard grader, but he gives you a chance to revise them. I got an A in his class and i thought his class was pretty easy. I highly recommend him!!!
really tough grader. if he likes you then you will do o.k. he is NOT flexible. don't expect him to give you a break for ANY reason. he doesn't care. i got an A and would not recommend him.
At first I really liked this guy. He told us exactly what he wanted. I kept an A in his class until about the last 3 weeks of class. I had to attend an out of state funeral and when I got back he would not let me get full credit for 1 late essay. It lowered my grade ALOT. So before taking him, just know that he wont take late stuff, no matter what.
I took him for 101 and 102 and he is honestly a great teacher. Not a class you can slick off in, but he knows what he is doing. One of the few teachers at a community college who actually teach as if it is a university. Be ready for a class you need to do you work in, but you will also have fun.
Reider is an amazing Eng professor. We had to write 4 essays during whole semester, and he was clear and gave lots of info on what it was supposed to be on. He allows you to revise your paper after grading to get a higher grade. You have to do the work and on time...he doesn't allow you to slack...welcome to college people...he is great!!
Reider is a great professor, but he expects a lot. You only recieve 3 absences and if you don't have your homework for the day, you have to leave class and it's counted as an absence. I thought this was horrible at first, but it made me a better student. He's very clear with his teaching and also funny!
Professor Reider is awesome. He tells you exactly what you need to know to get an A, and as long as he sees you making the effort he will definitely work with you. I got 407/400 on my first essay, and 410/400 on my second (he gives EC for pre writing and going to the writing center). He is hilarious, and loves to have fun in class.
Professor Reider is a great English Professor I have ever had. He is very easy and really wants to see you succeed in life. He will basically tell you what to do to get an A. He likes to have fun in class. His jokes, stories, and comments throughtout the class makes the class fun and a great environment to learn English.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a good teacher and Professor Reider exceeds good and is on the level of great. Reider raised the bar, everyone else will need to measure up. I know he provided me with the foundation needed to succeed. As a first time student at the age of old enough, I'm glad to have had him as my first Professor.
Reider was a really good professor. He, as many have stated, expects a lot however if you put in the effort and turn in the homework on time, you'll certainly receive an A in the class. We had only 3 essays this semester and he was crystal clear on what was needed to complete them. Honestly the best college professor I've had so far.
BEST TEACHER EVER. took him for sci-fi lit. Super easy and FUN class too, for one of our assignments we went to the movies as a class! he is down to earth and doesnt belittle. does excpect a lot but honestly he gives you so much time for assignments there's no way you shouldnt be able to meet his expectations
Best teacher I have had, took his class for 3 semesters because he was so helpful. ENG101, 102 and a Sci-fi lit class which was the best of all 3. You learn more than what is advertised for the class. I would take his class again if need be.
I have taken Reider for three classes, ENG101, ENG102 ENH254:Sci-fi film and lit. In all my classes he is amazing,he helps every student to max capacity. He makes you critically think and provides samples to every essay and HW assignment. I don't like Sci-Fi, but I took it becuz of Reider, I can now appreciate the genre thanks to him
He was fantastic. At times it was challenging but if you work hard you should get an A.He is helpful and will answer any questions with a smile. REAL GOOD TEACHER
Class definitely took a lot of work but I can genuinely say this was probably my favorite college course I've taken thus far. Makes what we learn very interesting, and very helpful. Do the work with effort and you will succeed and it will be enjoyable.
GREAT TEACHER!! He clearly explains what he expects from you and is more than willing to offer advice if need be. HE DOES NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK, so do the homework. It is a quick pace for reading so expect to do some work. But the way he teaches really brings the class together in a awesome environment built upon a common respect.
I took Reider for English 101 last summer and am taking him for 102 this semester. He is AMAZING. Probably the best teacher on campus. LOVE his class.
Amazing teacher. Best professor I've ever had. Funny, helpful and attractive to boot! Likes participation, which is normal, and pretty much spectacular at explaining what he needs to you too. <3 Crushin' HxC!
His class won't be the easiest class you take, but with help from him you can succeed. You can't be lazy in this class, but you feel accomplished when you do his work
Great teacher! I took this class Summer 1 session. I'm not a fan of writing but Chris is a great teacher and kept us engaged. He is always available for help!
Amazing guy, and teacher. I feel my skills have really developed because of him. I wasn't crazy about taking ENG101, but ended up having a great time. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants a class that is fun. To succeed: listen to what he says he needs, and then ensure you do it. Doesn't get more clear than that.
Professor Reider was by far my best college professor. His classes were interesting and the textbooks were actually real documentary-type books. I learned so much even in his basic English course about a world outside of my own. He was always helpful and super funny. The course is challenging but you're actually learning and growing as a writer.
Awesome and interesting lectures, read and participate in class and you'll do just fine. I really enjoyed this class and recommend him!
Mr Reider is a fantastic teacher. Very easy to get along with and has a ton of energy. I took his class during a summer session and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing that. His assignments are fairly difficult and involved, however, he is always willing to clarify anything and help you out. He requires a book, but I shared it with a friend and it worked out.
Mr. Reider is a cool teacher who makes lots of jokes to help the time pass. He also makes it really easy to get an A on your papers based on feedback and pier review. However, he grades papers as a whole, rather than correcting grammar errors, something I wished he would've done (I guess that's what the tutoring center is for).
He expects a lot from you, you aren't allowed to be lazy in this class or else he will call you into his office and make you sign this form basically saying you are going to stop being lazy or else he will drop you from the class. Good luck haha
Great professor! He understands that not everyone loves English, so he finds a way to make it enjoyable. He gives plenty of assignments to pad your grade, so as long as you do them to the best of your ability, you'll get an A.
Reider is a teacher who really enjoys teaching and it shows. Instructions are clear and class is engaging. This teacher has an amazing sense of humor. I enjoyed his teaching methods so much that I made his 102 class my honors class this semester!
He is supper anal about attendance. If you cant make it to class he gets super mad mad it. If your a person that has a careless attitude of what the teacher has to say and you just show up know what you need to know about an assignment hes not a teacher or you he will notice and will start dislike having you.
Prof. Reider is awesome. I took him for ENG 101 & 102. As long as you do your work and make an effort you'll do great. He really wants to see students succeed.
He is a great teacher. He is very entertaining to listen too, and helps all students get any questions answered. Overall best english teacher I have ever had, and the next one will have big shoes to fill. He does make you work for your grade. Homework is mandatory, and he does not put up with excuses. Do your work, and you will pass
Professor Reider was by far the best teacher I have had at CGCC. I had him for English 101 and I had him for English 102. Homework is mandatory, but its easy points towards your grade! Also he gives you a "oopsie" pass and a free pass, and if you do not use them by the end of the semester you get extra credit. If you do your work, you'll get your A
He's a great teacher, very anal attentive about assignments being in on time and attendance. But cgcc's new attendance rules are mental IMO . If you're not an organized person he isn't the teacher for you, but if you show up and do the assignments you'll do great. He's extremely helpful and always has office hours if you need extra guidance.
Reider requires you to be in class and you need to do the work. Ad tickets are weekly and you will have a few essays to write. He gives you really good feedback and tells you what you need to succeed on them, he makes it very clear. I would recommend him. Make sure to do all homework assignments and not be lazy!
He's Awesome and funny and explains things well! also gives back a lot of good feedback on essays and lets you edit and turn it in again for more points!
Super awesome teacher! Cool dude who is really interested in you succeeding! Fun way to learn how to write college level papers and really makes you want to come to class!
I took Reider as an honors student, which still wasn't bad. He can be spiteful if you forget homework, rather than just accepting it and giving you a zero, but for the most part he is a great teacher. Very likable, has a good presence and personality, we even did a service learning project @ the Y where we played some pick up basketball afterwords.
Thank you Professor Reider! Your English 101 and 102 not only challenged my world view, held space for questioning the source of my opinions or understanding, you helped my confidence in critical thinking and writing skills! While it was what you called "rigorous" work, it was also immensely rewarding. It also paid off in scholarships applications
His English 101 and 102 not only challenged my world view, held space for questioning the source of my opinions or understanding, he helped my confidence in critical thinking and writing skills! While it was what he called "rigorous" work, it was also immensely rewarding.
He is super nice and helpful. Keeps the class going with conversation. Easy class but you have to do the work and you get points for attendance so going to class is important if you want a good grade. Towards the end of the class i have problems because he misplaced a couple of my assignments, but over I would recommend him and this class.
Hands down the best professor I've had. He makes everything relatable and really changes the way you look at life. Go to class and do everything he tells you too and you have an A. Highly recommend taking his class!
Professor Reider is a great teacher. He provides plenty of resources for his students to be successful in the class. He is understanding and caring, as long as you work hard you should do fine in his class. He makes Eng 101 and 102 interesting by choosing various interesting and different topics.
One of the best teacher I have ever had! Great guy! If you just come to class and do your work, it is a very easy A. He doesn't believe in textbooks so all you need is a chapter book .
Overall a great professor, he'll help you if you put in the work and show that you are actually trying.
Professor Reider was one of the most engaging teachers I had. He was extremely helpful and not once did I feel overwhelmed by the amount of work we did in class. To all the naysayers on here--you probably didn't do the reading logs. Do the reading logs, make use of all your resources and ask a lot of questions. You'll pass!
Professor Reider is the best professor I have ever had. He gives you every possible tool to succeed. He does expect a lot out of you but it helped me to grow. I am not strong in the readingwriting department so having such a stellar professor helped me. I would highly recommend him as a professor to anyone.
He's seriously an amazing teacher. One of the best professors I've ever had! He cares about you doing well and he makes class fun and interesting as well. Only downside is he assigns a lot of work, but a great class if you're willing to put the effort in!
Reider is the best professor I've had at this campus. Honestly, most other English professors don't go the extra mile like he does. His lectures in class are really easy to listen to, and he is always very clear about what he requires. And if you're into the big teddy bear types, he's your guy!
Hands down the best professor I've had! He gives clear feedback on all essays and lets you revise them and turn them in again for a better grade! He also keeps class interesting and relevant to every day life. Reading logs are due every week, but the reading required is not overwhelming, 20-30 pages at most per week. Loved this class!
Positives: He is very clear on what he expects. He gives you the resources you need to get an A. Gives very clear feedback Negatives: If you slack even a little bit, be prepared to take a hit. He will call you out in front of class and may even say rude comments to you. He would call out students in the middle of class and it gets very uncomfortab
The best college teacher I've had. I wish I could continue to have him again. He's so funny and just such a cool laid back guy. If he wasn't a teacher, I'd happy to call him a friend. He grades your rough draft and tells you what you need to fix on it to make it better. He makes it very clear of your mistakes. He's an easy grader too. Loves him!
He is so fun! He makes learning and writing fun.
Wasn't into his whole government spying theme, so it was a tough class for me. But he really is helpful, and makes his assignment rubrics as clear as possible. He's also available to email any time, which is nice! If you like to write, and pay attention, you'll do just fine.
I had him last semester in his all-honors English class. He had to leave midway through the semester, which was very sad. Reider, by far, is the best instructor ever. I would so take him again if I could. He is clear in what he wants, he is hilarious, and lets you use your imagination.
I had Chris for English 101 this semester and he was a cool and entertaining guy. He makes the class exciting. Be prepared to work hard though. He gives a lot of homework and if you miss anything he is not OK with it. You must work hard to get an A in class. The essays he makes you do are boring and could be more creative. He is a tough grader
Chris is a down to earth teacher. Very laid back. Fun class but a lot of work. He is real picky and can be confusing. He expects 100% out of you. If you do what he asks you'll pass.
He was hilarious and awesome
He's the Department head and for a reason. He is incredibly clear with what he expects. There's a little bit of busy work but it is all to help you become a better writer. He cares about all his students and communicates well. Give effort in your writing because he can tell if you do not care. Inspiring and should be an easy A.
Honestly my favorite English teacher I have ever had. He assigns a lot of work but nothing too drastic and he gives great feedback and is very clear on expectations. He cares about each and every student and will make you laugh at least once every class period.
Amazing teacher! He really cares about you doing well in the class and makes you excited to go to class. He's super helpful, supportive and makes class fun. As long as you show up and do the required reading you are going to love this class. The best professor I had during my two years at chandler-gilbert.
He says he loves to help and that any idea is a good idea but then he never really wants to help and your idea isn't what he was looking for. He teaches this class like an ENG 101 class and its an EDU class
I took Prof. Reider's English 101 online and it was a great class. Reider is a parent and works full time while taking classes on the graduate level but he made time to help where I needed it. All homework leads to the papers. No assignment is meaningless so do every single one. He is the department chair for a reason. Reider was awesome!
Professor Reider is a Fun teacher! He is easy to get in contact with for any questions and explains his expectations clearly. Do as the instructions ask and you will get a good grade. Definitely be an analytical reader!
Super easy. He says you need the text book for the class, but you really don't. I bought it and never used it. Overall loved the class.
Amazing professor that will take the time to get to know you. You only need the text book like twice the whole semester. He doesnt give any tests and your grade is mainly if you just participate and do the work.
Professor Reider has been one of the most interesting professors I've had. He appreciates input from the class, and as long as he sees you putting in the effort, he is willing to help you out. If I were an Education major, I would take more of his classes.
He is fairly nice and gives great feedback but he sticks to rules so make sure you read all of the syllabus when you start out in the class. Christopher gives a lot of homework that sometimes is irrelevant to class and can be just an extra assignment to do. Make sure you have time to be in the class! He expects all your time and 100% effort.
Great teacher overall. The homework is very lengthy... not hard, but time consuming. Works with you on all aspects. His grading isn't always clear and hard to understand. I had to email him several times, but he always responds and helps with any questions. Very understanding! I would recommend him!
Chris is the coolest professor I have EVER had. He is very genuine, fun, and easy to get along with. He is great at getting the students engaged and has fun techniques that he uses to get our attention. If you are an education major please enroll in his other classes! I already enrolled in EDU230 for the fall with him.
Really cool guy! Is more than understanding & works hard to help his students. You can tell that he loves what he does.
Reider was amazing, I was unsure at the beginning of the semester as the workload felt heavy but within a few weeks, it became one of my favorite (and easiest) classes. The assignments were creative and fun, he truly cares and wants you to have the best learning experience! 10/10 recommend.
Reider is a phenomenal professor. You can tell he puts a lot of thought into his class, and the coursework involves recent information. Taking it online was a bit of a struggle as there was a lot of work and bad communication during group projects. I feel as though in person would have been more beneficial as the course content is very interesting!
I took this class my last semester of community college and tried to just get through it but he demands way too much from an online class. If you are short on time and don't want an overly complicated class, stay far away from this one
if you do the work it is an easy class
Took his movie class during Summer COVID. I learned a lot from him in the quick 8 weeks and had a lot of fun too. We watched a lot of quality movies and he's a genuine teacher that likes to have fun and interact with the class. Assignments can get tedious but as long as you do the work he will give full points. Easy A for a humanities class.
LOVE this teacher he is one of my favorites. With online classes I usually don't get a lot of feedback but he leaves a comment on EVERY assignment! He makes sure to give useful information and made sure that he offered us video office time to discuss and ask questions. You will not be disappointed with this teacher. He is outstanding!
This guy is amazing. I took him twice because I love him so much. His classes require you to put actual effort into it, so as long as he sees you actively trying, youre good. He inspired me to be an english major after his encouraging feedback. He actually lent me some books!! There is a lot of work involved, but its a healthy sort of challenge.
He responds to every submission and always and not just boring responses, he is hilarious and down to earth. I would 100% take another class with him! The workload seems like a lot but it is also an 8-week course, but every assignment is enjoyable and makes you think. He also gave some extra credit, my current grade is 101 percent! This was EDU 292
Favorite class. I wish Christopher and I could continue to be friends and talk about movies even after the class was over. He gives amazing feedback and really engaging lectures. The only things worth noting is this is a time consuming class because you do have to watch the movies, but I can't say enough good things. Thanks Prof. Reider!
Professor Reider is a great teacher! His feedback was always very good and helpful! You can tell he took the time to read your assignments! He gave lots of extra credit opportunities and his assignments overall were not very difficult. I definitely recommend taking a course from him!
He gives a lot of homework, by that I mean back-to-back essays every week and a half. Gives very good feedback that helps with being better at writing and he's also very encouraging. Don't take this class if you're easily overwhelmed with assignment overloads.
Mr. Reider is a very caring teacher & this is evident from all the uplifting feedbacks he gives to almost every hw you do. There's going to be hw but it's not rigorous, just busy. Offers straightforward feedback on essays & is willing to help anytime via email. There's nothing but good things to say. Wish I had him for 102 bc I would take him again
Professor Reider was amazing. His online Storytelling class was so well set up, it wasn't even like taking an online class. Every assignment had great feedback, the learning material was fun and interesting and the structure of the class was well thought out. I definitely recommend taking his class.
ENG309, very tough class. He was genuinely helpful, responded quickly, and helped change my grade several times when I addressed. Class was very paper heavy, and I've never hated anything more than Rhetoric, but he was great. Srsly, tho. I hated this class. Every second. Not his fault, just the class. Never hated a class more. Anyway, he was great.
Nice teacher! He claims his assign. are not busy work but it is definitely busy work. He assigns. like 6 assign. due Thurs. then 4 assignments due on Mon. These assignments aren't one question assign.. It multiple questions with 3-5 sentence or more or a vid talk or discussion post. Its not a hard class but easy to fall behind.
after maybe a dozen college classes this is the first one that is actually valuable. it is an actual analyzation of real world issues i seriously recommend this class whether you are an education major or not. prof reider was professional & engaged w the most extensive notes about my submitted work rather than fluffy "develop more" notes
Professor Reider makes the online format feel engaging. His thoughtful feedback and creative assignments kept the course interesting. Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Definitely recommend this class.
Professor Reider is amazing! This class was for my humanities credit, so I didn't think I'd get much out of it but I learned so many interesting things. Much of the homework involves interesting cases that show how important telling stories properly is for understanding. I also had struggles this semester and he was very understanding as well
