When I started this class, I wasn't sure what i got myself into. I ended up enjoying the professor and the class immensely. He kept the material easy and fun to learn, and kept me on my toes as I wasn't sure what crazy stunt he was going to pull next. He is very big on contacting him if you have any troubles and wants you to succeed.
What an amazing professor! He is new to the university, so I wasn't sure who I was getting. But nonetheless, I got the best prof I've ever had. He is so amazing, I rearranged my second semester to have as many classes as possible with him. He is fun, understanding, and very relatable. Take a class with him! You won't be disappointed.
He's super entertaining, and connects everything to real life so he makes it very easy to follow along.
Great Prof. Made the lectures fun and interesting and encouraged us to speak up. Used multiple learning techniques and used real life examples which made it really easy to understand all the concepts.
Dr. Schneider is an amazing professor. The material was difficult, but he did his best to make it accessible. Lectures felt less like lectures and more like conversations where students were full and equal partners. He is really interesting and knowledgeable. You must attend class to pass, though!!!! A really funny, all-around interesting guy.
One of the best professor i have had at BU. He is easy going. He is always there when you need help. He is always willing to help. His class is very enjoyable. He makes the students want to come to class. he is very knowledgeable in what is teaching in class. His lectures are easy to follow and understand.
good prof, interesting, will be taking more with him
Best prof at BU. His classes are amazing and I will be taking more in the future. He makes classes very entertaining and easy to understand. Very willing to help out in any way he can. Would 100% recommend his classes, I have learned a ton with him and didn't find his classes very difficult at all.
Refers to lectures as "shows" and dresses in costumes relevant to content. One of the most engaging professors!
Great prof, easy to do well in the class if you show up
Good teacher, very helpful, open minded.
One of the best class I have taken, I recommend everyone should take this class.
Awesome teacher, hilarious, very interesting person, energetic, crazy personality, I reccommend this teacher for sure!
Awesome lectures, absolutely hilarious. Makes the class super fun. Textbook is completely mandatory but gives you a lot of opportunities to bring up your grade if it's not where you want it to be! If you have the option to take a class with Chris, no doubt about it. Take it, you won't regret it!
He refers to lectures as "shows" and engages students with the material. He emphasizes participation and will often dress in a matter that is either professional or relevant to the material being covered in class that day. He actually wants the students to succeed and does what he can to help.
Reading intensive but overall interesting topics covered by the readings. My favorite professor at the present time, great attitude - respected and hilarious.
Awesome classes, awesome prof. Makes it very very interesting even when you think the topic might be boring. Really wants the students to succeed and helps as much as he can. I would definitely recommend this course with this prof!
I really enjoyed the way he taught.
i love dr schneider, he is so much fun!!! so helpful!!! always a great class
You walk into that class and your day gets completely changed for the better! Hilarity will ensue.
Best lectures! The only class that I don't want to fall asleep in.
One of my favourite classes this semester. He made the lectures interesting and explained the readings in a way that made sense. He also wanted his students to get a good mark!
Most entertaining professor I've ever had.
Amazing prof and interesting lectures!
Great lectures! He keeps every class entertaining and wants you to get a good mark.
Very entertaining lecturer! Fun to listen to, but also efficient at explaining difficult concepts. He knows how to keep students focused by using a variety of mediums in his lectures - notes, videos, debate, group projects. Reading intensive, you cannot pass without the textbook. He isn't going to try to trick you out of marks.
Great Prof, one of the best I've had. Lectures are are always entertaining, makes going to class enjoyable
He's lectures were always fun and interesting. By far one of my favorite profs.
Dr. Schneider takes his role as a professor quite seriously though some might not think so at first glance. I would consider Dr. Schneider to be the best professor that I have had to this date, and would recommend his Introductory classes for any student even remotely interested in his subject of study.
I am glad that I had the opportunity to participate in this class. Some of the(most)material was difficult to grasp at first but Dr. Schneider will come at it from different angles until it sticks or he burns out trying! He endorses in class participation, if you aren't there you aren't getting your moneys worth. Give a solid effort and you'll pass
Officially my favorite professor. He genuinely wants to see his students do well, but his priority is that you learn something useful. All round nice person, easy to approach with questions. Ready to make sure by any means that you understand the material presented. Great haircut.
Class lectures were interesting, organized, thought provoking, relevant, clear objectives, valuable subject content. Professor Schneider is very knowledgable, cares about the success of his students, available for questions, approachable, effective use of slide presentations, video clips, class time goes by quickly! Extra bonus assignments avail.
THE BEST PROF EVER. After a few "shows" (lectures) I immediately recommended my friends to take it. Never a dull moment with this one. I never thought I'd be interested in Socio, but Dr. Schneider made me rethink everything I once knew and that is definitely a sign that you are learning. 10/10 recommend this to everyone!!
Most helpful and nice, not to mention HILARIOUS, prof I've ever had a class with! Genuinely cares about his students, and will always try to help in whatever way possible. Classes are also beyond entertaining! Take this class, or any class with him - you won't regret it, trust me. Take note: you'll need that textbook though. It'll be your BFF.
Would highly recommend this class. His class is very entertaining and you will learn lots. He prepares you really well for tests and often leaks the long answer questions
All around great class, easy to do well if you attend lectures and keep up with the readings. Midterm exam was based heavily on class readings. Make sure you stay on top of the readings because it's hard to catch up for the tests if you fall behind. Would 100% take a class with him again.
interesting/fun lectures, lots of reading, tough tests, prof is very knowledgeable and experienced
The lectures given by this professor is very lively. It is a necessity to read the assigned readings as in depth as possible as the tests are very detailed and broad. It is important to listen to this professor in class because he mentions important concepts to focus on, making it easier for the tests. His bonus questions are hilarious.
Professor Schneider definitely knows his stuff and doesn't just purely read off of his slides. Nonetheless, reading the textbook is a must since almost 99% of his tests are based off of the assigned chapters. His class is always entertaining which makes waking up early well worth it.
Great professor, class is fun, lots of bonus marks are given as well with exam leaks, great class to boost gpa or for a first year student
Unbelievably entertaining prof that makes going to his early class worth it. Gives an exam leak every class. Midterms are based 99% off of the textbook though so be sure to purchase that. if you just study the definitions in the textbook youre guaranteed a B. Gives random bonus marks for attending class as well, easiest A Ive gotten in uni
one of my favourite profs. he makes it very clear that he wants his students to do great. hell do whatever he can to make sure they do great.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Schneider! hilarious, approachable, smart, caring, open minded, respectful. He is one of the best professors at Brandon University. also super easy no the eyes!
My favorite prof so far. Extremely knowledgeable and gives the most interesting lectures that keep you interested the entire time. Would highly recommend any course with him
Prof Christopher is very smart and attentive to the needs of the students. He gives bonus marks and bonus exam questions also. Amazing lectures and he's very hilarious too. You also really need to read hard as the course is reading intensive. You are in good hands with Prof Christopher. Its easy to get an "A" if you are hardworking.
Great Professor, he has a lot of energy and makes Course material fun to learn. Be prepared for a lot of reading and come to class, as power points (class notes) are not posted online (moodle).
Do it
Dr. Schneider is a fantastic professor, especially for a first year student! His examples during the "shows" are hillarious and connects to the content. He is probably the most dedicated professor in the university. Keep in mind that you have a textbook so make sure you use it while studying for the exams!
What an honor to take professor Schneider's class! His lectures are awesome, real life examples to connect to the material,After this class you will look at people differently. I learned a lot about society and our daily interactions with the different school of thoughts. He's a flippin great prof. Buy the textbook open it and read it. EasyA
Amazing professor! His lectures are very entertaining, and he is easily one of the only professors I would eagerly take an 8:30am class with again! He responds quickly, almost immediately to emails. He is approachable, and someone who genuinely cares for his students. He is the standard of how all professors should be.
Makes 8:30 am classes fly by & so entertaining. Loved going to class. Favourite professor!!!
Read the textbook or you wont do good
Knows his field very well and is passionate about teaching. Even in the intro classes.
Engaging, hilarious prof that puts a lot of effort into making things interesting. Keeps you laughing all class but stays on topic!
This was the best course Ive taken so far! The prof is great at getting through this heavy course load in a way that is hillarious and easy to understand.
One of the best professors I've had. He makes every lecture entertaining and provides excellent help if needed. If you decided to take one of his classes you won't regret it!
Having never taken a Sociology class before and hearing that the subject was wary from other students I was skeptical about enrolling in this course but was not disappointed. He is one of the only professors that makes me want to come to class. Hilarious lectures, great approach to the topic and very passionate for the material. Take his classes!
Although attendance isn't mandatory it definitely is worth your while to attend and get the full experience. Dr. Schneider is hilarious and puts in a lot of time and effort to make sure the students feel engaged and interested. He is also very approachable and will gladly help you. Easy grade.
Hands down one of the best professors at BU. Schneider is enthusiastic, so knowledgeable, and hilarious. He puts a lot of effort into his shows and really cares for his students. Even though the textbook will be your best friend, it really is a dream textbook when compared to others! Ergo, take his intro to sociology class. You won't regret it.
Best class/prof Ive ever had ngl.
Dr. Schneider makes the class very entertaining and engaging, he is literally like a stereotypical cool prof from a college movie. He is very knowledgeable, kind and easy going. The class is very worthwhile, challenging but interesting. He is loaded with interesting stories.
The teacher is great and gives a lot of opportunities for extra marks. I do find his tests do not necessarily reflect his lectures but are more based on the textbook
i truly believe he is one of the best profs at BU, he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. the class is reading intensive and if you don't read the textbook don't expect to pass the exams, overall fair course with the objectives laid out from the beginning. its an 8am but he rewards with exam leaks so attend class
Makes 8:30 am not so bad! Best teaching style ever and makes everything easy to understand. Always willing to help boost marks with exam leaks and extra mark assignments. I sincerely enjoy coming to class!
Dr. Schneider was a very good prof. His lectures very engaging and he always made sure everyone understood the material. There is lots of options for bonus marks on the test, and overall in your grade.
He has really good energy. Class is like a performance and he is so funny! Teaches you how to put yourself in the social. Good class to help you think critically/explain social events that take place.
Schneider makes his lectures entertaining and memorable which makes the material easy to recall on tests. He grades very fairly and sets us up for success. As long as you attend class you will have no problem passing, but you won't mind coming as he is funny and interesting to listen to.
Good class, learned lots, but he gives out lots of free marks - lots more on the exams. The bonus leaks at the end of the class makes it worthwhile to come to class. To really get a good mark on exams you need to read the textbook.
Amazing Prof makes it fun to learn the material show up to class and you will pass make sure to keep up on all reading material he keeps a very lively class
You'll wanna go to class, his lectures are very intresting and he also ends all of his lectures with exam leaks, his tests are non-cumulitive, easy class if you listen in class and read the textbook
best prof and class ever, has your prof ever brought timmies for you? ya i didnt think so. take this class, you wont regret it.
Such a good professor. Would definitely recommend. He makes the class fun and makes you think outside the box!
Loved the tunes when entering class. Definitely set the mood. Christopher is a very gifted teacher. Engaging, passionate and super funny! His knowledge of popular culture makes it so entertaining and easy peasy to connect with not only the fresh out of high school students but, the older crowd as well! Nice eyes!! Shaaa-wing!
The best professor I have ever had. Extremely caring for your success and has the most engaging lectures. A natural born teacher for sure.
Kept the class engaged and the lectures were all interesting
This professor is hilarious and makes class extremely entertaining. He cares about his students and you can tell. Very knowledgeable in his field. Take as many classes with him as you can!
Listen. You may have taken intro to soc with him, but ANY other class with Schneider is RIDICULOUSLY difficult. For a second hear course you need to buy all 3 textbooks and he expects you to be keeping up with about 100 pages each week. Again, for a second year class. Hard and ridiculous exams. Never taking a class with him again.
Schneider is truly a great prof but expects you a lot reading for his policing course. Although, the content was interesting and the group projects was a great way to apply your knowledge. I would recommend all students who take his policing class to not take other theory/reading intensive classes or it will be challenging to finish all readings.
Great professor! Always puts so much effort into his lectures or shows as he says. Also super woke and teaches students interesting things. Good music taste. study and do your reading and you will succeed. Intro to soc is simple but interesting. I recommend. (Although I will say, he sometimes loves to over-correct students in class discussions)
11/10 WOULD RECOMMEND. Hes lit, and his lectures pop off. I don't regret taking this course, even if it was writing intensive. - Sincerely, the guy with the hat who thinks that swearing is cool
Dr. Schneider is probably the best professor at BU. He uses different types of media to explain theories and connects real life examples to what we are learning. His lectures, or shows as he calls them, are always entertaining and engaging. Everyone should take a class with him at some point in their university career.
amazing
He provided amazing shows (what he would refer to his lectures as), put so much time and energy in to making this course entertaining and enjoyable. He provided simple extra credit for everyone and was just such a good guy, super woke in the real word and up to date with things to keep our young minds in touch with the heavy topics.
Great professor. This was a very enthusiastic professor he made it easy to get up at 8 and stay awake during the "show". I especially enjoyed his pink dress and fantastic beard.
I really enjoy being in this professors classes, I really think he knows how to put on a good presentation and get students involved. I think he is tough but I respect that a lot and gets students working and thinking, not just letting people slide by. I look forward to working with him in the future!
He is a very dedicated teacher with the class and with the students, his classes are very fun and educational. There are many readings and writings in his classes but never excessive, therefore I feel that learning with him is very easy, even if we are learning about a complicated subject he will explain it in a way that we can all understand.
most amazing prof I've ever had. being online my expectations are low, but Chris exceeds my expectations. His lectures are actually a good time and it never really feels like class. great discussions, genuine laughter and constantly keeping me engaged. he called the lectures, shows and they truly are. highly recommend taking his class.
Prof. Schneider's classes (shows as he calls them) are very entertaining and they keep you engaged. He includes music, pictures, quotes, and memes in almost every slide so you're never bored. The classroom space he created was a safe space for people to make comments and ask questions. I would highly recommend this professor.
His policing class is reading intensive but the material is relevant. His shows are very fun and entertaining. He motivates students to do better by praising the class and offering incentives like bonus marks among other things. I would highly recommend this Prof!
You would not regret taking this course. Or any other courses with Dr. Schneider, you can tell how much he loves teaching Sociology and it is truly inspirational. He cares about his students, and I think thats what I like about Dr. Schneider, he wants you to suceed in his class. Overall, listen to ratemyprof and take it with him. He's amazing
To be honest, Christopher Schnider is really a good professor. His lectures are simple and he uses real examples and common topics which will give a basic idea of what the chapter is going through. If we concentrate and listen to his lecture attentively, surely we will understand the topic well. He also gives feedback after each essay.
Great teacher, definitely would have him again as a professor!
He is the best and most understanding professor I have met. It was easy interacting in his class as an international student , I would love to take more his classes he is amazing
This course was online due to the pandemic, and Dr. Schneider made this class very engaging. I looked forward to this class the most because it related to real life and how it will impact me. He used humour at the right time, and was respectful when teaching serious topics. He is perfect for this course.
Dr. Schneider is a fantastic professor. His lectures (shows) are very engaging and filled with fun ways of learning. I highly recommend this course if you want to exercise your critical thinking and expand your awareness/knowledge about the world. Dr. Schneider also creates a safe environment for his students.
Dr. Schneider's lectures are content-heavy but he makes them interesting and dynamic. The way he explains tough concepts is easy to understand and also relatable to real-life examples. His course syllabus was organized and clear with the grading criteria, he took the time to explain every aspect of the syllabus and receive questions.
Classes are always well designed and interactive, which is important since there is a lot of content in the class. Participation is a must.
Easily one of the top 3 professors at BU. Heavy on papers but if you attend class you'll do good. He makes the shows (lectures) fun and easy to digest, which is great for 8:30 am classes. Great professor overall, you'll be glad you took this course/met this prof. If it hadn't been my last year I would have taken more courses with him for sure.
Great professor
Amazing professor
This class was so engaging! I didn't know if I would like sociology, but now I want to take more classes.
I've heard great things about this professor before. They were correct
Great first introduction to sociology!
Absolutely love his class! Love waking up early every morning! The way he does his exams is also in a way that allows you to expand on the knowledge we have learnt in lectures and apply it instead of just memorizing abs then forgetting later!
Extremely passionate about what he teaches and truly wants his students to learn the material. Interesting lectures and enjoys seeing students.
Amazing experience, sad that my time in this class is almost done. I 100% recommend taking a course with Dr. Schneider for the things you learn and the experience you get. Already have a friend registering for a course with him.
he is a great guy, super fun, learned a ton and was very interesting.
I loved this course and Dr. Schneider so much! he's very funny and makes lectures (or "shows" as he calls them) entertaining. This was a very unique class and I enjoyed learning about pop culture and journalism! would highly recommend taking this class if you can!!
An awesome lecturer and is very knowledgeable and keeps students engaged! He provides many examples for the material covered and gives good feedback in class and on our papers. His passion over his subjects is very contagious and makes us depose thinkers. He provides us with new viewpoints in our everyday living through a sociological lense.
Amazing Professor, cares about students and wants everyone to succeed. One of the best courses/professors I have taken.
He is a very one sided- professor. If you do not agree with his views you will not do as well as others in the class. He is knowledgable about the subject being taught. Not all of his shows are presented with actual facts. In the end, he was very helpful and a well respected prof. Recommend his class to others looking to challenge his views.
Crime, Law, and Media course is an excellent choice for sociology majors, especially with Dr. Schneider. Professor Schneider is passionate about his field of study and it shows in the way he teaches. The 'shows' (lectures) are always engaging and if you do the readings the material makes more sense (do the readings or else you won't do well).
While theory is not the most interesting to learn, Dr. Schneider tries to make it as interesting and engaging as possible. Doing the readings for this course is essential as you will only excel if you do so (also because you will have weekly group projects). Overall, Professor Schneider's passion for his field of study makes the 'shows' insightful.
He was a really good prof, he made his lectures engaging even for individuals who do not car for sociology. I would take another class with this prof again.
At the beginning of the term I had heard many great things about this particular professor. By the end of the term I was fed up with him and how rude he comes off. Although he is very knowledgable about this subject there is no space for discussion. He is a fair professor if you align with his views.
This class sparked a new interest for me in sociology. The prof is well organized, followed the syllabus exactly and made every lecture enjoyable. Clearly defines work to be done, you always know what to expect, and if you read and participate in the lessons, you will do well in this class. This prof clearly loves his work.
Dr. Schneider is a phenomenal professor! Lectures are extremely interesting and thought-provoking. I gained an immense amount of valuable info that I can apply to both my degree and everyday life. 11/10 prof- goes above and beyond to make sure students understand and are laughing. Would definitely recommend having the textbook!
Hands down one of the best profs at BU. Everyone should take a class with him. His course kept my interest from the first day to the last. A great lecturer, has awesome shows, and is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches and gave us many tools and knowledge to look at things from a different angle and sociological perspective.
Great professor who understands that you have a life outside of class! Always keeps the lectures engaging. Just make sure to stop him to ask questions (its harder to do so with online classes). Dr. Schneider is highly qualified to teach this subject and answered any questions I had, succinctly.
Amazing professor, always kept lectures engaging and fun despite it being online and at 8:30 in the morning, gave opportunities for extra credit and had easy exams with clear instructions as well as weekly discussion posts that kept us engaged with the content we were learning that week.
Was happy with him at first however during a meet with Dr Schneider he made a comment about how I was 'the oldest person in his class'. Completely swung at my confidence. As a a single 40+ single parent I wanted to explain why being financially unable to. That's what I wanted to tell him at that comment but, fled his office so embarrassed.
He is super funny
Really great prof! Fun and engaging lectures on relevant topics. Not a lot of outside of class work besides studying for tests and some readings. Manageable work load. Prof made students actually want to show up for an 8:30 class and stay awake
Very very engaging and interesting lectures, super nice and caring guy. The work wasn't too bad if you read the textbook but the tests were a bit everywhere so it was a bit harder.
Engaging lecture. Really interesting material. Group projects and lots of reading. Only had a multiple choice midterm and an essay final so you need to do well on those to get a good overall grade. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Lectures are very interesting and Dr.Schneider is an amazing teacher. If you need any help he responds almost immediately (over email). Read the textbook and other readings he assigns and you will do amazing in the class.
I have had him for 154 & now Policing. Beware... he expects A LOT out of his second yr courses. I took this class b/c I enjoyed intro with him and needed an elective. He assigns ~100 pages of reading a week, and while all interesting... it was impossible to keep up with. One exam and one paper + weekly group projects, that was it. Get ready to read
Dr. Schneider was overall a lack lustre professor at best. The content of the lectures was good but he was an obnoxious and loud professor which sucked at 8:30 am. He was incredibly passive aggressive in all email interactions, definitely not a teacher I would reach out for in any capacity, I would recommend running as far away from this prof.
Calls his lectures "shows" which he seemed to appreciate student comments/questions during said "shows" Passionate, and informed about the material. He was clear with the barriers and difficulties of the class up front (for this it was reading) For me, passing required doing the reading and showing up to class.
I recommend taking this course, Schneider's lectures are so good
Professor Schneider was an amazing professor! Even though this class was early in the morning, I was still excited to go to class every day. His lectures are interesting and presented in a fun way, and he offers plenty of extra credit assignments. Be prepared to read the textbook as it is required. I would recommend this course!
He's so good in delivering his lectures and very knowledgeable in his study.
Just make sure you attend classes, and read the class readings and you will be a top student. He is awesome.
Just make sure you attend classes, and read the assigned readings, participation matters, and he is really awesome.
He provides an encouraging type of learning, and readings are very important to this course.
Always stays updated on the community and how current event relate to class material.
He goes out of his way to make lectures fun and interesting and uses relevant examples from our community. Most entertaining prof I've had and keeps you engaged. Attendance not mandatory but he does group projects that you have to be in class for. One multiple choice exam with info from readings/lectures and one take-home essay style exam.
Engaging lectures, relevant topics, and manageable workload. The professor is knowledgeable and passionate, making the course interesting. Using unstuck study alongside the textbook can help with exam prep.
He uses memes in his slideshows 😭, and he created a star wars monologue for one of the topics
Would 10/10 recommend this course to any student
Most engaging prof I've had! Uses great examples in class and posts lectures at the end of every week to help with studying and exam prep. Had 2 midterm exams with a take home essay final
My favourite Prof so far
Exams are difficult and the final exam is graded extremely hard. Makes it seem like you will get 95+ but ends up giving out 60s on final which makes up most of your grade
One of the most memorable profs for sure! Made me actually enjoy going to class because of how fun and engaging his lectures were. Awesome dude.
Dr. Schneider brings energy and relevant examples into his shows. His shows (lectures) start with music and are full of sound bits and images to bring the textbook to life. He is not afraid of a costume and there was never a bad show. I often talk to my peers and family members about the shows because they are so interesting.
One of the best Prof's I've ever experienced
Horrible prof. While lectures are interesting and he is entertaining, tests have nothing to do with what he talks about and papers are graded extremely harsh.
Lots of extra credit, midterms were a bit tough
very engaging in class, and extra credit is available for those who attend class
Very interesting, made the 8:30am lectures bearable. You would think the tests would be easy based on the lecture content, but the tests were very difficult. The averages were ~60% for both which is very low considering it is a first year class.
Professor Schnieder is a very engaging professor with amazing lectures which continuously receive high attendance rates even on early mornings. The only negative would be that his tests can be notoriously challenging in that they are quite hard to prepare for, even if you are coming to class, taking notes, and reading all the assigned material.
I took intro to soc with schneider and it was a lot easier compared to policing. Policing just has a lot of content to read, and only 1 exam. Lots of group projects that you have to be in class for to attend. You dont know when the group projects are so if you miss the class you'll only know if you get a 0 on a group project. Still an awesome prof.
This class was a very reading heavy class. Each week you were expected to have the textbook read as well as any additional readings. Schneider makes it worth while with entertaining lectures, defiance of social norms, tons of extra credit, and being one of the best and most informed profs in the department. Intro Soc with Schneider will change you
