Stocker is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Instead of explaining first the theory behind a type of problem he jumps right into it and expects you to get it and explains the theory later. However, by that time you've already gotten too lost to pick yourself up off the ground. I would not recommend this professor ever lest you want a C.
Prof Stocker was very antisocial (never even introduced himself, got into problems right away) and his lectures are very boring and long, but if you go to lecture, you don't have to do the assignments. His notes explain everything very clearly. He's the best math teacher I've had in that respect. The quizzes are short and you can use notes on exams
He is a very boring teacher who only looks at his Ipad and the chalkboard. He goes through material very quickly and it is sometimes unclear. He is not too hard on grading, but that is the only positive to having him as a teacher.
Stocker is a fair professor. Although his lectures can be boring, he never gives any surprises in the exams. Anything on the exams has been taught in class before. If you review your notes and practice problems, you will do well. I recommend taking his class, just know you have to put work into it in order to get a good grade.
Stocker is a good professor in the respect that his exams are fair, plus you get to use a notecard on the exams. He moves fast with his curriculum, but if you do the homework and perhaps take advantage of tutoring services, you will do well. Coming from someone who doesn't typically do well in math, I recommend him!
Very straightforward, which is what you would expect from a math class. He was very fair and does his best to help you out. Take him, he's a bro.
Dr. Stocker was one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He is a very friendly and straight forward guy. He allows his students to use a notecard on his exams. He knew how to teach math in a very simple way that I feel like anyone could understand. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to take calculus.
do not take this class. he is impossible to keep up and his class just takes up too much time studying and preparing. I had to go to a tutor for it to barely get a BC. Stay away
This guy is an awful professor. He makes it his mission to explain something in the hardest way possible. It's bad when the BOOK is simpler than his lecture. I basically have been self teaching myself almost everything, and failed the first test WITH a note card. Don't take him, it'll be the worst experience you've ever had in math.

If you are good at teaching math to yourself take this class because he is the worst math teacher possible. I loved math before this class. For instance AP calc is easier than having this guy explain the material since he makes students more confused when they leave the class then before he/she left the class.
He is a very sweet man, and will help you, but he can be a little confusing. His quizzes are much easier than his tests. If you have him, I the worst and it is very possible to receive an A.

This class was a whirlwind. He made the curve seem like it was gonna help a lot, but then the last day of classes he basically took it back. He is confusing in class, but helpful during office hours. Doing homework feels pointless because it looks NOTHING like the tests. Basically, if you have the ability to take someone else, DO IT.
If you can take anyone at else I would highly suggest it. A huge majority of my class was forced to drop because they were failing. If you do have to take him make sure you join Tutoring the first day of the semester, you WILL need it. He does give some extra credit for homework which is nice. Definitely avoid if possible!!!
Really sweet guy. He's always there to help. He can be a little confusing but definitely not a bad teacher. You really do have to pay attention, but I like his teaching style. I will be taking him again for Calc next semester for sure! Tests are difficult, but certainly not impossible.
I really liked taking his class. You definitely can't miss and you do have to pay attention, but after you warm up to his teaching style its pretty easy. You have to do your homework or you will fall behind but its not too bad and he gives you extra credit for it at the end of the semester. Also office hours are super helpful.
Dr. Stocker is a great teacher and really knows what he's talking about. It's clear that he's passionate about math and if you pay attention, take good notes, and study there's no reason you shouldn't get at least B. Homework can be turned in for extra credit at the end of the semester, and you can make a notecard for exams.
Homework is optional, but extra credit at the end of the semester. Lectures are basically unbearable but on tests you get a notecard so it's not hard to pass, or even get a B but on quizzes you might struggle if you don't know your stuff.
Very straight forward math instructor. No personality and no excitement in class. Challenging material and you'll have to do a lot of work on your own to get a good grade. Classes were very structured and well organized.

I would recommend taking Prof Stocker if you are good with math because he is not always clear. Lectures are pretty boring, but it's your typical math class. Overall, he really isn't bad. Homework is not mandatory.
If you're great at math, then Stocker is likely the professor for you. If you're not great at math like I am, chances are, you'll struggle. His lectures are long and confusing, especially if this is your first actual Calc class. The guy is clearly a genius, but he teaches the material as if you are too, which is problematic for us non-math lovers.
Dr. Stocker is a very nice man and all business; he has a very cutthroat, no BS demeanor. Expect material to be shoved into your face from beginning to end of his very long lectures. Tests are very difficult but passable. Allows notecard on exams and homework is extra credit.
Most people I encounter seem to hate professor Stocker but I didn't mind him at all. Explains things in an unclear manner every now and then. Extremely helpful if you took calculus in high school. Tests are extremely easy if you understand the homework and class notes.
Prof. Stocker can be a confusing teacher but is there for you when you need help. Didn't have another option to teach calculus.
Stocker is really nice, really devoted to his work. After class, he is also a really kind professor and can realign willing to give you suggestion on your studying. The exam is really easy and closed to the note we take on class I strongly recommend this professor
I have to say that this professor is really helpful for student he can always simplify the math content while teaching and give us clear example for each chapter The exam question is really similar to the notebook examples It is easy to pass and get A!
Stocker does a great job teaching this class. He is a little quirky, but it's clear he has a strong passion for math. He teaches kinda fast and his lectures can get a bit dry, but he is by far the best teacher available. Just sit in the front, take good notes, and participate. His lectures directly correlate to his tests. Do the HW & enjoy the EC.
Poli Sci Major taking my last required math class. If you took any calc in high school you'll be fine, but if you haven't this class will be rough. He believes you have some prerequisite knowledge and talks fast. Exams are incredibly easy though especially in comparison to the online homework. Don't buy the book you'll never open it.
This class is a breeze if you took calc classes before, but I can see why those who didn't can struggle. Stocker talks like a textbook, so concepts that should be easy aren't explained in a way students understand. There are 5 midterms that each cover a narrow range of material, so you can write down pretty much everything on the notecard he allows
If you took Calc before this class is easy. If I never took calc before, I would be challenged. The class is a free-for-all, so don't let others distract you. Use outside resources like Khan Academy, Dr. Stocker, and practice. Great guy and very knowledgeable about his field. His lectures are fast, so seek him outside class for help.
Dr. Stocker is very knowledgable and compassionate. Lectures can be boring, but he is very helpful during office hours and at the math help desk-- utilize him there! He allows you to use a notecard on each exam and is a generous grader on exams by giving a lot of partial credit. You still have to put in the work, but very fair class.
Dr. Stocker's brain processes information 5X faster than anyone in the class and doesn't realize we cant keep up. He expects us to know what hes talking about when he hasn't even taught us something. If you understand math you will do fine but if you are new to calc... good luck.
An incredibly intelligent guy but sometimes forgets that not everyone is on the same level as he is intellectually and he will begin speaking very quickly and it can be hard to keep up with him. Take good notes in class and write down all the examples because you get a double sided notecard for each of the tests
Although it's apparent that Stocker is very smart, he tended to overestimate how smart the class was. Overall, he was a really nice guy, and he did seem helpful. But for the homework, we only got 3 attempts and weren't told what the right answer was if all 3 were incorrect, so that sucked. Make sure to go to class too. You need to for the homework.
Dr. Stocker teaches discrete mathematics very well. He has a deep understanding and passion for the subject that shines through in his clear lectures and the analogies found therein. Probably one of my favorite classes in college as it combined some basic math theory with real applications.
Great professor. Very helpful during office hours and will do anything to help his students do well in his class.
It was the only math course I took outside the college of business. Although I got B's and C's in high school math, I got an A- in his course. He was passionate and patient. Make sure you do all homework assignments and complete all extra credit questions. This can get you an A no matter how you fear calculus! I hope he teaches BUAD1560 as well!
Dr. Stocker is an overall great professor. He makes sure the content is learned by the class before moving onto another one... just try and participate. Homework is not graded, but in order to do well just attend the class... its honestly that simple.
Since I never took calculus before, it was definitely a struggle. I mainly had to teach myself everything (which took 3x the amount of time it should have) since his lectures were super faced paced and unhelpful. But if you took calculus before, it would be a breeze.
Stocker is a good teacher who covers all the material that will be on the tests. Great guy and passionate about his job. He's always available for help and the help desk is always useful when he or a TA is there. If you don't pay attention you'll definitely miss something that will be on the test, as well he allows for a notecard on the tests.
5 tests and a lot of homework throughout the semester. Heavy on lectures and examples but they help a lot. Sometimes goes too fast but this was a pretty easy class. If you know how to do the chapters in the book before the test you'll be fine. Also good opportunities for extra credit.
He is a very good professor who is passionate about what he teaches and has a very good understanding of the subject matter. The subject is difficult but he is amazing. He moves fast but is very clear on what needs to be known and will answer any questions you have for him.
Worst teacher Ive ever had . Completely unclear what will be tested on exams, moves like a cheetah, takes 10 second pauses to ask if anyone has questions and then just moves on. Test averages are very low, many students are failing and he makes the class more difficult than it needs to be because he is inept at teaching.
Ive taken a Calculus class before and did really well in his. That being said, I could not imagine trying to pass calculus with only him teaching me. People would literally boo him into stopping and his TAs ability to grade questions (again, I got an A and Im not complaining out of anger) was remedial at best
He was ok. He did not teach great in class, but it was not terrible. It is an easier class, but it is hard to know what is on the tests. The class does not correlate very well to the homework. Neither correlates to the tests. His teaching was decent at best. Not terrible, but not good either.
Hes very confusing. His lectures are extremely fast paced. Good luck if you zone out for 5 seconds might miss a whole section. If you have taken calc before you will be ok. If not student beware. Hes not clear about what will be on exams and gives no practice exams. He wrote the text book he makes you use and is head of the department. Good luck
Stocker is an amazing prof and he really explains things thoroughly to make sure his students understand! Hes always ready to help his students during office hours too because he genuinely wants to see his students succeed! His tests are rough but, if you do the homework and study for a couple of hours, you should be fine! 10/10 recommend him!
He is "too smart to be a teacher" if that makes sense. He goes so fast and doesn't understand that calculus does not come naturally to most people. He doesn't even really know how to answer questions because he doesn't get how we could have any. Made the whole class buy a whole DIFFERENT expensive textbook just because he was one of the authors.
Really nice guy! He seems to really want to help kids learn calc and offers a lot of resources to help you out. His lectures are pretty fast paced, but allows for questions after sections.

Dr. Stocker was so kind and understanding. The class is all video lectures and online homework with paper quizzes and online tests. It was challenging, but definitely not bad!
Professor Stocker never got back to any of my emails and when he did he never answered the question I asked or it took him 3 months to answer. He goes very fast in lectures and doesn't explain problems good. The test are on myLab and you get test answers wrong for small things like not adding a comma. I would not take this course ever again!
He does not know how to teach at all. If you do not have a good TA, you're screwed. I suggest finding a different Professor because Stocker although he knows his stuff, does not have the skills to teach students.
Genuinely the worst and hardest class I've ever had to take. He's a smart guy, but he has no idea how to teach. His lectures are extremely fast paced, and the quizzes/tests aren't similar to the homework at all. Weekly quizzes with no helpful feedback if you don't do well. Do yourself a favor and get a different professor
Dr. Stocker wasn't my favorite. His communication skills aren't the best, his teaching is really vague, and his class is graded mostly on exams (76 percent of the grade), so if you mess up on one exam, then your grade will go down the drain, specifically for calc 2. Overall, I was displeased with this course in general. If you take him, goof luck.
Seems like a nice and smart professor but fails to teach effectively or communicate his work. He would just write things down with not much explanation and the only way to get in touch with him was through attending office hours as he did not answer emails. Luckily his TAs for discussion sections cleared and discussed what he had glossed over.
If I could have given him a zero, I would have. Worst professor Ive ever had for any subject. Doesnt answer emails, doesnt give TAs any sort of grading scale, homework is totally unrelated from the quizzes and exams, and he gave me an A- when I worked all semester for an A and I literally earned an A, emailed him, and he ignored me. Hes awful.
Love Dr. Stocker! He's super patient and knowledgeable, always answers his students' questions perfectly, and is willing to help us in any way possible as long as you ask. I was concerned about taking calc 2 fully online asynchronously but Dr. Stocker made it all manageable as he holds many office hours even during school break days. Recommended!
Professor Stoker is extremely intelligent, but it sometimes seems the smartest people make the worst teachers. He is caring and available outside of class, but the pace of his lectures is fast, and he sometimes runs off on tangents. If you aren't great at math, be prepared to do some EXTRA outside of class learning. He does offer some extra credit.

He is one of those math teachers that is really smart to the point where he forgets people aren't always the best at math. Luckily, there's lots of help accessible outside of class. The tests can be somewhat difficult if you don't know the content well enough.
Have the final left but an A in the class so far. He gives a lot of time for homework, posts extra examples for each chapter online, and the extra credit homework works you through problems. Goes through a lot of examples in class. Honestly just a nice guy too.
Super nice teacher and even better person, however it seemed that he was maybe even to smart to teach the intro calculus. Explanations and notes didn't necessarily help too much on the exams which was bothersome. However, if you do all of the homework and extra credit by the due dates, and do at least okay on the tests you will pass.
I took AP Calc AB in high school and this class was honestly a review. Stocker knows what he's doing but sometimes isn't the best at explaining things. If you have prior calc knowledge, his class will be easy, but if you don't, just make sure to pay attention and actually do the homework. Also, I bought the textbook and never used it - waste of $$
Honestly, Professor Stocker means well. He's very very smart and knows so much about math that it's kind of hard for him to teach. Content isn't going to be spoon fed to you like in high school so be prepared to actually use your brain. If you study instead of talking about how bad of a prof he is, you can get an A.
Stocker was interesting. This is Calc 1400. We had four tests and a final exam. Each test you could use a 4x6 notecard. Tests would be hard but what I would suggest, is to write down examples on your notecard from the videos he posts or the extra credit assignments he posts. Dont buy the book! Go to the help desk if you dont know how to solve hw
Dr. Stocker is very fast-paced and hard to follow during lectures. As a student in a major unrelated to math, it was so hard to stay afloat in this class that I actually ended up dropping it. The exams were long, hard, and gave me lots of anxiety. Do not recommend.
Stocker is a nice guy and will actually help you if you need and shows pity but he is not cut out to teach a class with 100 people in it
I did well in this class only because I took AP calc in high school and put in a lot of work. If you've never taken calc before I would not recommend Stocker. You get a notecard on tests which is nice but the tests are still challenging. Good amount of homework but not overwhelming.
Would lecture right through class without really stopping. Homework was NOTHING like the examples in class. Very long assignments. I dropped the class the night before the first exam because he was no help and very difficult.
This class is made to be difficult and its a difficult class to teach but I do think he's a really smart guy and sometimes misses some of the material that might be an essential part of the lesson. If you do the homework and extra credit assignments. If you learn at t a slower pase this might not be the class for you.
He lectures really fast and doesn't go any slower if you ask. The only reason I am staying afloat is because of tutoring. DON'T BUY A COPY OF THE BOOK, you wont use it. Stocker is also a contributor to the book and makes money when you buy it. He has 6 kids and always brings them up. He means well tho and lowkey pitties all the people in his class.
Smart guy, seems really nice, but not the best professor. He moves SO QUICKLY through the lectures. I did not take calc before this class and it was awfully hard to do well in this course. The exams are not easy. I did all the EC and attended the math help desk every week. I am still experiencing burnout from this class three years later.
If you took pre calc you will be ok in this class. He does ramble on about things, but if you ignore that and take notes on the important things, you will do well. Fairly easy on the grading and very straight forward questions. You need to go to class, and you need to pay attention.
Mr. Stocker is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He moves so quickly, homework after every class, and lectures the entire time. DO NOT buy the book, he wrote the book and gets money when you buy it. We have not used the book once the entire semester. I took pre calc in high school and doesn't help much with this class.
Stocker is a great guy and clearly wants the best for his students. That said, the other MATH1400 professor options are likely better for you. Dr. Stocker tends to over explain concepts that students with no prior calculus experience get lost in. If I had not taken calculus in high school, I would likely have a C or D in his class.

Professor Stocker is a nice, intelligent guy, however he cannot teach his class. He moves very quickly and it's extremely hard to keep up. He doesn't take into account that most students have not taken calc before and assumes that we should already know most of the stuff. His homework is extremely difficult and counts for very little of your grade.
Honestly he wasn't that bad. People complain about him all of the time, but if you go to tutoring or have taken calc in high school, you'll be fine. He was easy to reach outside of class and is flexible if you have to miss a test as long as you have a plan to make it up. Lectures were boring, but his tests were easier than homework.

Stocker gets a bad rap from a lot of students who also took 1400. It's a tough class and his lectures do get extremely boring. There are 4 exams and 1 final exam. I would recommend doing all of the homework and extra credit that he assigns. It's hard to keep up with it all but if you do it will be worth it. Don't need textbook. 1 notecard for tests
Very nice guy, just way too smart and content is hard to understand. Tests are pretty hard. I would recommend getting into tutoring right away and doing the extra credit homework. They help with your grade and understanding content. Homework is time consuming. He is not very accessible via email, so I would recommend going up to him after class.
good professor, he how to teach well and provides relevant examples to the topics he presents in class. as long as you pay attention, take notes, do the homework and study, you will pass the class. if you need help, go to the help desk, they will always help you out. he allows a 4x6 notecard on exams so be sure to use that to your advantage.
Stocker taught Elements of Calculus extremely well. He explained every topic clearly and gave clear example for each topic he taught. He has a talent of teaching and makes Math 1400 much easier. If you show up to his lectures and pay attention you'll do very well in the class. He's available outside of class and easy to learn from.

This class is extremely hard. He moves through lectures way too fast and it is very easy to fall behind. His Exams are graded by TAs and they will give points where they are able to. If you are not good at math take PreCalc if he's the only option to teach 1400. If you took AP Calc in high school this class will be much easier.
The professor is too smart to teach an introductory math class. The lectures are lengthy and require attention and note-taking. You get a notecard on the exams, which is nice, but you still need to know the content. You better have some calc knowledge from high school, or this class will be an uphill battle.
This is a tough class with lots of homework. Tests make up majority of grade. He does teach the material in class, but it is definitely a lot. If you study hard for the tests (I recommend getting a tutor), you have a good chance of succeeding.
All this guy does is spew. He is a hall of fame yapper and spends half the class saying random stuff. Otherwise he's calm.
I personally like him because I learn best from lectures, and that is all he does. The class size was around 150, but you could still ask questions. The tests are much easier than the homework but about the same as the extra credit. There are around 20 points of extra credit that you can get if you just complete it, and its good review too.
personally, he really isn't a bad teacher, if anything he is very good at it. you just have to pay attention to know what you are doing. even if you understand it get into tutoring it will help. do all the extra credit it will help in the end. also take notes. on everything. take his class you wont regret it.
The best way to take this class is to make sure you do not get this teacher. The lecture is so long and this class is so long and it could be a shorter class if he did not run off topic and talk about random things that nobody really cares about. I would really recommend finding a different teacher or taking this class online.
Stocker is not as bad as the reviews on here make him seem. I was terrified to go to his class because of these reviews but he is just a fine professor. A lot of his lectures are really boring but you should take notes on everything he writes on the board and do the examples in class. If you took pre calc before, you'll be fine. GET INTO TURTORING.
Tried to be interesting and include "real life" examples. Slightly quirky but not too bad, he's a nice guy.
This class actually made me want bang my head against a brick wall. I took calc in high school and the first two exams I did great but after that it was down hill because his teaching method is not teaching anyone. He told everyone on the first day that you will fail his class. So prayers to you because I am NEVER taking his class again.
Four easy exams, one mid-level final. Online homework twice a week. He moves pretty fast, but posts every class on D2L, which is extremely helpful for exams. Take notes and you'll do well. He is very caring and respectful, if you go to his office hours he will be open to help you with exams and give you some tips.
Like all the other ratings, Stocker goes over material really quickly and it's not very easy to understand it during the lecture. The homework is the thing you gotta study to understand. Stocker can be surprisingly funny and he's a nice guy that teaches a hard course. The best thing about the class is that we are able to use a cheat sheet notecard.
Dr. Stocker moves fast. Since this is a rotating class that isn't offered that much he tends to mess up a little bit more in lectures. As long as his door is open then he is happy to help you with questions. Exams are not terrible but he does repeat questions from previous exams.

Very lecture heavy and moves very quickly. New quiz or retake of old quiz in every class. You get a retake for each quiz and the final exam is just 5 retakes of quizzes of your choice. There is EC for the homework which in counts the same weight as one more quiz. There is office hours and a math help desk that are always willing to help you.
there are short quizzes everyday in class, but no exams. u get up to 3 retakes per quiz and he posts them online after the first one, so theres literally no way to fail. extra credit gives you up to 4% more. homework almost everyday but its honestly helpful for the quizzes. he goes very fast during the lecture but he posts videos too.
Mr Stocker lectures and switched to 13 quizzes instead of exams with retakes for each quiz. The TA can grade interesting on the first attempts but usually easier on the second attempt. It is 96% to an A in the class, but you get 4% EC for doing EC assignments. Stay on top on your HW and retake the quizzes and you will be fine.
He is the teacher who is to smart for his own good. I think he explains things to the best of his ability but the class moves very fast.
Dr. Stocker is a great professor. He is super knowledgeable and cares about his students doing well. He is super nice and is a great overall professor.
If you can please take Mr. Stocker. I came out of high school with no pre calc experience and I took his class and did well. While he is super smart and tends to teach large classes, he cares about all his students especially if you get to know him. He will help you I promise. His lectures are long, but he covers everything and gives extra credit.
