since he's a " virgin instructor". Everything he does is quite noob, not using mic at all. However, his policy is a bit funny, do the 100% on the 2nd midterm, youll get 50% of total mark ( each mid is 25%)even u got 0% on the 1st, yeahhhh
Thought he was great, clear, interesting, helpful, and he also gives out candy? is that not awesome?
Funny in a nerdy sort of way. Very prepared and very fair with grading. Definitely try and get him as a prof.
Willmore is so awesome! His notes are perfect and puts everything online. Definitely don't need to go to class, he understands everyone has better things to do, and his tests are more than fair. All short answer, but gives out ridiculous part marks. Easy class. Don't get anyone but him.
When the class average on our first midterm was 22% he essentially told us to all go back to first year.
Works hard to keep the classes interesting and relate them to the real world. He's very prepared and accessible. He marks the first midterm incredibly hard but the after that he marks pretty easy and weighs the later tests heavier.
Few mathematical examples during lectures, just real-world examples and funny stories that won't help you on the tests. Tutorials are completely useless- seems like there is very little communication between Willmore and the TAs.
He is a great prof. He respects students' opinion..If you read a text and do assignments, you will get A or A+ for sure.
Willmore is the worst prof I have ever had. He does not respond to emails, was very sick often and thus was rarely even in class, uses real world examples but does not give the basic concepts, leaving the class with an understanding of one situation, not macroeconomics. Sub prof could't understand lecture material that was given to them by Willmore.
Prof Willmore definitely works hard to keep the class entertaining. He is a very clever man and is able to answer any question thrown his way. His tests are very fair and he provides equal opportunity to do well for all students-he allows students whose second language is English to bring translators. Overall, he is a great prof to learn from.
While it is not his fault, he was sick often and should have hired someone to take his class while he was out. It seems that you need an understanding of Mico for this class even though its not required in the course description. I found this class frustrating and have been turned off economics
Willmore is an average prof. His lectures are kinda interesting with current issues, but can definitely be missed. The text is very useful, it is really all you need. Pay attention to previous exams for practice. Midterms aren't too hard, and his grading schemes are pretty good. Not bad prof, but not sure if I'd recommend him.
Willmore truly is one of the professors at the University who cares about his students. He is willing to go above and beyond the expectations of any prof to help you out. Even before our final he had a 6 hour virtual office hours answering questions online. Economics is not a easy course and I feel some of the poor ratings may stem from.
good prof, lectures are decent, good policies
Good prof! Good midterm policy! But the final was harder than I expected to be.
Extremely helpful prof! Was sick for a few classes but would still update website at 3AM and would make up time to help students. Good class, really good textbook (Hubbard/O'Brien), if you actually try to do assignments you'll do really well on them (99%), final exam was harder than expected, but really good prof!
Sick prof, very helpful and awesome dude all around.
Really interesting lectures. If something is going on in the news, he'll bring it into class and explain it. Textbook readings were all over the place, but necessary. The stuff on the exam is not necessarily what he's covered in class.
You must read the textbook to do well in the class. The lecture notes that he provides are not useful at all for studying. Other then that, pretty easy class. Takes the best of both midterms. Lab attendance is marked, but you get chances at bonus marks.
I'm understanding to his situation but I found he simply missed too many classes considering what we pay for the course. Textbook readings were seldom referenced yet were very important for midterms, while lecture notes were the opposite. It wasn't clear what was going to tested. His lectures were interesting.
His lectures have a lot of "real world" tie ins, but ultimately do nothing to help you pass the course. This negated the fact many were canceled. Decent professor otherwise. You'll pass easily if you read the text and do assignments (and especially the practice exams, which were recycled almost verbatim into the real exams).
Lectures were poorly organized and had no relevance to the course. You do not need to attend the lectures because the entire course is self taught through the text book. Tests were very difficult and the markers (TAs) were horrible at best.
Willmore?s a great prof. His class was hard but fair. I struggled with concepts and had to get a tutor, but I ended with a B+. Overall Great prof Good class. Get a tutor if you have trouble
I love Christopher Willmore. He is my favourite econ professor at uvic! I love his lecture style--he's clear and funny. An all around good guy.
Course has no prerequisites other than econ 103 yet calculus is constantly used. The evaluation for the course was nothing like the syllabus indicated, he changed all the tests into extremely long take home assignments. By the end no one attended lectures as they were useless. So disappointing especially since econ at uvic is usually so great.
His lectures are very hard to understand. He just reads from his slides. But he is much clear with what he is going to ask in midterms. His final and most of quizzes are way lengthy. Very hard to complete in time.
This is not an "easy" class, but the material is straight forward, the marking is generous and I wish my other profs covered midterm/quiz material so thoroughly. The lectures are often interesting, and Chris is always available if you need extra help. There are no surprises/blind side moments for his mini midterms or the final, outlines are given
Christopher has really stepped up his game this semester. He ended up being one of the most amazing profs I've ever had at UVic. He hands down put more time and effort into the course than any other professor. He was always available to help students. Throughout the entire semester I felt like he really wanted all of the students to succeed.
Willmore was by far the most accommodating prof I've had at uvic. He was available via email (very quick responses), skype and online chat forums-basically if you needed help, he's there. The assignments were fair (can work in groups) and his final was fairly easy for people who completed the assignments. I would highly recommend him for Econ 317.
Dr. Willmore is definitely the best professor I've had. He is always on time, clear, thorough and avoids information that is not directly practical for us. He is the best prof at using CourseSpaces and the online office hours were so helpful. After taking this course, I decided to also pursue a business minor. Thanks Dr Willmore!
Willmore is the best professor I've ever had a UVic! He cares so much about making the lectures interesting. It is obvious that he puts a ton of work to make sure Students get the most out of his courses. I would take any ECON course offered by him! He has great jokes and candy
There are so many assignments! Also, group assignment is extremely difficult and confusing. Choose somebody else please!
Dr. Willmore is an amazing, friendly, and caring professor. Definitely taking one of his courses again. He turns Economic Canadian History from something that makes you want to gauge your eyes out while vomiting all over the place to something really fascinating. ECON 321 is a lot of work but a SUPER easy A+. It felt unjust receiving A+ after A+.
Great prof. Very funny and always keeps things interesting
he is nice guy lots of assignments but he is not a though marker
Good professor, funny, interesting and helpful. The only problem is that he weighs the exam too much. Last term is exam was only 20% and this summer is 49%.Especially the 39% final is very frustrating, since we don't have too much time to study......
Dr. Willmore is a really nice and awesome professor. As long as you are willing to put in the work it is really easy to get an A or A+. While his lecture slides can be a bit convoluted they are also comprehensive (so don't worry about missing a lecture or two). Be aware that he will make the final exam fairly harder that the midterm.
Two hour lectures three days a week for two months made this simple course hard as hell. He skims over problem procedure and does no examples in class. Understanding the information in the lecture slides takes an entire day per pdf. And don't rely on the assignment questions for test prep, they aren't extensive enough.
By far the best professor I've had at the UVic. Student success was his #1 priority. Consistently went above & beyond to help students succeed. His humor & presentation style kept even 2-hour lectures interesting, and his frequent notes & emails ensured I had all the resources I could possibly need to learn the material. Cannot recommend him enough
Chris is a fantastic prof & cares about his students more than any prof I've ever had. I'm far from a model student, but I'm entering the final exam sitting at 100%. The 3min assignments could be repeated as many times as needed, giving you a free 10%. Midterm marking was incredibly generous, weighted in your favour, with no surprises at all. 10/10
Had to update my review of Willmore because, to be fair, he provided practice exams with answers and told us exactly what would be on the tests which made the course much easier. I still profess that his lecture examples were confusing and did not adequately explain procedure. Spending 2 hours 3 days a week in his presence isn't worth it.
The course had a high workload but he's very clear when explaining things, provides lots of great resources, and prepares you well for the exams. A really great teacher and person, quite funny and surprisingly sensitive to a lot of issues (racism, sexism, ableism) that most profs don't even blink an eye at. A nice change from what I'm used to here.
Had to take this course for my Econ degree, Willmore was a fantastic choice. He somehow made a dull subject interesting and informative, I found I came away knowing something about the subject, which was great. Lots of little assignments every week which is annoying, but they are also extremely easy if you do the reading. Would recommend to anyone.
Amazing prof... possibly the only prof in the econ department that cares about their students. His classes are a lot of work, but if you're willing to put in the effort, you will succeed. Lectures are super interesting, and assignments are very relevant to what you are learning in class. Couldn't recommend enough: best prof i've had at UVic.
He is an excellent prof, he truly cares about students, provides ton of material to study from, which is great for midterms and the final. His lecture notes are well detailed and also records the lectures for those who have missed it. I wish more profs at Uvic were at least as half as caring as him.
Christopher Willmore is the best professor in the Economics department. He truly cares about his students, and he is very open to questions and for opinions. Christopher might come out as quirky and weird at first, but once you get used to his sense of humor, the lectures become really fun! Attendance is far from mandatory
Chris is a fair and approachable prof. The class had a fairly high workload but the assignments were easy to do very well on, and the midterms and final were overall easy if you read the slides/paid attention in lecture. Attendance is not necessary, and in my opinion neither is the course pack.
Even though the course material was pretty dry, he did a good job of keeping people engaged. Would recommend.
Great prof.
A great professor. His number one goal is to help his students succeed. Great at using emails to ensure students are always up to date and have all the resources they need to succeed. I cannot recommend him enough. Also gave us candy during final exam.
Excellent teacher. Passionate about making sure students understand what he is teaching them and always ready to listen and help his students. He writes his own textbooks which are amazing and provides them for free. Cant go wrong taking any of his classes, if you come to class and do the homework you will pass and learn.
A great prof. He truly cares about students. He was the only prof I had on 2020 Summer who offered asynchronous classes. The assignments were sometimes difficult but he gave us 2 hours long walk through to guide us. He made the lectures inspirational and fun.
Did a great job running online class
This man is a gem. Truly cares about his students and goes above and beyond to help you. This semester he was doing a zoom lecture and halfway through realized that we couldn't always see some Excel pop up so he redid the whole lecture in his own time and posted it. Beauty
Professor Wilmore is the best professor I have had at UVIC. He makes assignment requirements clear and manageable which makes it very easy to get an A in any of his classes. He is also the most caring professor I've ever had. If you're having problems he will do everything to help and understands his students are people. I could not recommend enoug
Enjoyed being in Professor Villmore's online class.
Christopher Willmore is one of the best prof's at UVic. He explains everything in great detail and also thinks about student's mental health. If you want to learn from real life examples well he is your key. I had an online semester although my course was condensed but the projects he used to give was really nice and is a great source of knowledge.
I enjoyed being in this class. Learned allot about interest and taxes. The projects sometimes took quite a bit of time to complete and I would have preferred if I could have got 100 on them without having to do challenge questions but otherwise this course was enjoyable.
One of the best profs at UVic! He's very understanding for personal issues and extensions. He has a lot of personal interest in economic history, is knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. Online classes are well organized.
One of the best profs I've had online. Material was difficult in some matters, but he always responds to emails with a passionate and descriptive reply. His lectures are full of practical examples, he asks you to skim the textbook sections, but with his lectures, I didn't find this necessary. Takes feedback from students and works with them.
For a class with 50 students, after 2 weeks online attendance dropped to 10 students MAX. Lectures always went over allocated class time. There were always multiple "required readings" for every single one of the 33 lectures we had, that ended up not being necessary at all. Only good thing about this class is that marks were handed out so easily.
Chris Willmore was a gem. I have no interest in economics, but he clearly made a huge effort to make this class interesting for us. One of the most hard working and considerate profs Ive had at UVIC.
The projects for ECON 180 took quite a bit of effort but Dr. Willmore clearly really cares about his students and created quality lectures that were helpful when completing assignments. He is super passionate about his work and that comes through in his lectures. He also provided tons of extra resources if students were interested.
Dr. Willmore is the most empathetic and caring professor I have ever had. The commitment to quality delivery of the course did not go unnoticed. The course material is different from other Engineering classes but is completely manageable with the provided resources. Dr. Willmore is a great professor who works tirelessly to provide a fair course.
Dr. Willmore is the most dedicated and caring prof that I have had. His lectures go beyond the basic understanding of concepts. While some of the course styles are different than most in engineering (lots of word docs instead of worksheets where math/work can be shown by hand) it in no way effects the whole point of school, which is learning.
Prof Willmore is one of the more caring prof out there. Though this class is quite easy (massive GPA booster), I find Prof him an absolute pleasure to work with and Id usually get a detailed answer to my questions via emails.
Christopher is the ideal professor. The course has been designed for you to succeed from the start and he is the first to champion that. Sources are always cited and mentioned, accessibility is constantly updated, grading is fair and incredibly clear. The 'required' material he posts adds to the courses perception and usefulness.
Makes lectures engaging even though it is an online class with some dry content. Provides many additional resources to help students who need extra help understanding concepts. Overall a great instructor.
Amazing Prof, deserves more credit.
Chris is one of the best professors Ive had at UVic. From a student who has no overt interest in economics, Chriss classes managed to be one of the most engaging classes of the term. He goes out of his way to ensure that students understand the material (optional notes).
C Willmore is hands down the most caring prof I have had in uni towards his students and their wellbeing. Very accomodating to all learning styles so students can learn in their most efficient way. He makes it clear how to succeed in the course and earn the mark you want. The assessments were also interesting & relevant to life. Great prof 10/10.
Willmore truly cares about his students and wants everyone to not only succeed in his course, but also develop a real interest in economics. The course is designed to not be overly difficult and time-consuming, but is still rich with information and incredibly useful tools for future projects. 10/10 you will enjoy the course, Willmore is fantastic.
His projects are time consuming but they are interesting and he is actually always there to help you with it. Amazing prof.
Great class, really enjoyed it, it's not a class that will hurt your mental health either. Dr. Willmore is a genuine professor who cares for his students and has definitely allowed me to take an interest in economics! His lectures are well delivered and easy to follow so I would recommend him to anyone who wants an enjoyable and interesting class!
The most caring prof you'll ever have at Uvic. The prof prioritizes students' mental health and is very accommodating. You can ask him ANYTH via email and he will take his time to provide a thorough explanation. The projects were time consuming but interesting and helped apply the content taught in class. The slides were SO HELPFUL. Overall 10/10
Professor Chris Willmore is one of the most caring and understanding profs I have ever had. There is no one I would rather take an economics class with. They understood that they were teaching engineers and adapted wonderfully to that. I have never had a prof genuinely care about their students as much as Chris.
This class was excellent. The only part I struggled to follow was the gender stuff because I come from language that is much clearer with genders. But Christopher was a good marker and reasonable and helped with everything. I would recommend his class to anyone
This is the most dedicated professor I have ever seen, I love it.
Great Class, great professor. One of the few classes where you actually get to learn things in depth while not burning yourself out. He cares a lot about his students and does his best to help student learn effectively and thoroughly while maintaining good mental health.
Out of any Professor that Ive ever had at UVIC, not once have I ever had one who cares about their students as much as Professor Willmore. From creating engaging lectures that have examples to help with future project content, to being extremely aware, and caring, of the mental health issues that each student goes through, to working endless hours.
Professor Willmore gives excellent lectures, with clear examples of varying difficulty to ensure you can understand both the basics and more advanced version of every concept covered. He urges you to put your mental and physical health above school and actually reflects that by giving extensions easily and accommodating any issues you may have.
Chris Willmore was such an amazing prof this semester! He genuinely wants his students to succeed and cares so much for our wellbeing. His lectures were super insightful, and I'm not usually a fan of ECON classes! Any student would be very lucky to have this guy teaching.
Chris Willmore has cracked my list of overall best professors. He has been one of the most enjoyable, dedicated, and intelligent professors Ive had. Not only does he provide a great learning atmosphere with his passion towards the subject and care towards his students but his overall knowledge of the subject makes the learning material much easier
I really enjoyed how respectful this professor was of our time. I learned important things, the classes were all useful things I can use in my field as an Engineer, and in life. He cared so much about us and our health. It wasn't a super easy class, but one that I never stressed over passing. I really do wish this professor the best.
Although I was only taking ECON as a requirement, Chris Willmore is the best prof I could have had for the subject. He is one of the most caring and dedicated profs I have ever had and works extremely hard to provide the best course experience for his students.
I had Christopher for an out of major class and they made the lectures easy to follow and understand. They always made it clear what was expected of us and what we needed to do to succeed. Projects can be tricky, but if you watch the lectures and do some reading you'll be fine. They also make sure that everything is as flexible as possible.
Dr. Willmore clearly cares about his students and their learning. He was always quick to answer emails with valuable feedback. Although economics was not the most interesting subject to me as an engineering student, Dr. Willmore taught the subject as well as it could be taught.
A truly special professor who prioritizes students mental health genuinely cares about his students. Very personable and responsive outside of class and happy to help/accommodate struggling students. Tried to present material in as interesting of a way a possible to students whose primary study is not in the courses field.
Its not an exaggeration to say that Prof. Willmores ECON 180 class may have been the thing that saved me from total collapse this semester. This course is incredibly friendly. Thank you, sincerely.
Initially I was frustrated with the lectures going over time consistently, but as soon as the issue was brought up Chris addressed it and changed the lecture format to "required" and "optional overtime". The projects and **required** readings can be lengthy, but not too difficult. He also provides LOTS of extra material, which is NOT mandatory. :)
If your get him, consider yourself to be extremely lucky. He is just so amazing professor. Thank you so much for being so caring throughout the term.
As an engineer taking an economics class, I was very pleasantly surprised with the way Chris was able to tie in relevant engineering information and considerations into this economics class. He is probably the most caring proffessor I've had throughout my 4 years at UVIC and it truly shows in his teaching. Cannot recommend him enough.
There's so much good to be said about Christopher Willmore, but I'll keep it short. He's super passionate about the topics in class and really cares about your well-being and understanding. Because of this his lectures were always fun and informative. He is the only prof I've ever had that actually cared if he was doing a great job, and he was.
Good prof, made a topic that I wasnt super interested in tolerable and kept the content streamlined and interesting.
This is the first time I've felt like a prof has cared about my wellbeing. He was understanding to students and the assignments were fair. He also made sure the course projects were applicable and interesting. What could have been a dry engineering course instead taught useful life skills, I've saved all the slides so I can remember content later.
Ive never had a teacher so willing to help students and who prioritized mental health for everyone over due dates. He was an amazing professor who I would happily take classes form again. Thank you Dr Willmore
One of the best Professors I have had when it comes to communication. While I found the content relatively uninteresting (engineering student taking mandatory economics course), Chris lectures well and his assessments were very fair and respected your workload leaving most time consuming and tedious tasks as "challenge" or "bonus" questions
Super nice prof that actually cares about his students. The assessments are fair and I can see he has a passion for teaching. Very good person!
Chris is a very good instructor. He cares about about the subject matter and does his best to make you care aswell. It is easy to get a good mark in this class but it is by no means easy. You will need to invest a fair amount of time.
This class is a bit of a departure from the rest of the engineering program; there's a lot more reading/writing but Chris presents course material in an engaging and relevant way. Projects throughout the sem featured a non-binary person named Sam. This was my first time seeing this sort of representation in a STEM course and I hope to see it more.
Christopher was hands down one of the most caring and engaging instructors I have had in my years at UVIC. He understands that many students have full course loads and that economics may not be their top interest or priority, but still manages to make the content interesting and concise. I genuinely learned a ton in this course - Christopher rules!
Easily the best prof I've had at UVic. Dr. Willmore provides extensive details on lecture material to help students learn about the topics provided. His assignments are also very fair, and are designed to enrich your learning rather than testing your capabilities. Students' mental health is also a priority for him. Take his ECON180 class if you can
Let me start by saying Prof. Willmore truly cares deeply about his students and their experiences in this course and he is a great person. However, I really didn't enjoy this course. I found his lectures to be very convoluted and slow to get to the point, making them very boring to watch through. Great man, but not my favourite professor.
Dr. Willmore is the nicest prof I've ever had at this school. He is really understanding. He is also one of the few profs that adapted well to online teaching. The class was split into an essentials and non-essentials part. I was just taking the course for credit but found myself frequently interested in the discussions due to Chris' anecdotes.
I said easy because as he says, he "makes it hard not to pass". his assignments are reading heavy but as long as its clear you read and tried to answer youll get a good grade. His lectures are so interesting, you can tell he really loves history. Its story based style so its easy to absorb. He uses a textbook but he wrote it and its free.
Sometimes found some concepts explained in a very indirect way, making them more difficult. But otherwise great, very caring towards students and their mental health. Lectures are generally interesting. Assignments/projects very fair and also generally interesting. Definitely recommend as an elective with Willmore and hope to have him again!
I didn't have Chris as my official prof, but I watched all of his recorded lecture videos. He's an amazing prof who can explain concepts in dead-simple terms. 100/100!
The most caring prof I have ever had. Also incredibly on point with his pop culture references in lecture. Assignments were very interesting, but if you don't pay attention then you will fall behind on the last few assignments. Quizzes are very easy < 3 mins each.
Throughout the course the prof gives us 3 projects to do. At first they seem daunting due to the length of the outline, but 70% of the writing is just hints and tips on how to do the questions. The prof really sets you up for success and you can email him anytime to get help and he will do the most he can to ensure you pass the course.
The best Econ major professor I have met in uvic, very helpful, respond emails very quickly, kind and understanding, treats all students equally, very concerned about psychological condition. The scheduled assignments are very easy to get good grade if you have a honest try, please choose him.
The best professor of Econ at UVIC! Thank you, and I hope you have a happy life after retirement!
Having been in the Engineering Meatgrinder for most of my adult life, this guy is a breath of fresh air. Clear expectations, well defined tests and compassionate. Dr. Willmore sets students up to actually learn and succeed.
he seems like a nice guy and all but his assignments are really dry and time consuming.
Christophers class is not the most interesting if you don't like learning about the topic but, he is extremely passionate and caring for his students and lectures. He provided us all with 1x 3 day extension for any project and is always available to help. 10/10 would take any (as someone said) "dry and time-consuming" class with him again.
Great professor in every way possible. Don't know why anybody would ever leave a bad review.
Professor Willmore is a caring and engaging instructor who makes the course content interesting. The assignments are fair and designed to enrich learning. Unstuck ai was helpful for preparing for quizzes.
Values students' mental health over academic performance.
