TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! NOT HELPFUL AT ALL! IF YOU MISS A TEST FOR A GOOD REASON, WATCH OUT! HE WON'T LET YOU TAKE IT! NOT A GOOD TEACHER AT ALL! MEAN! IGNORANT! DOESN'T CARE ABOUT HIS STUDENTS! THE AVERAGE ON THE FIRST 2 TESTS WERE F's!
Terrible teacher! His tests are difficult, which is ok, but he doesn't prepare his students for his difficult tests. Avoid this man at all costs!
Avoid this pretentious old windbag at all costs! Wolin is rude, boring, and happily dishes out Fs, especially on participation. He does, however, give (hard) take-home tests during the summer. That's the one positive thing that can be said. If you can take another class or can take this one with a different professor, do. Seriously.
Yes, class is hard, but he grades on a curve ( = +15 points on first two tests so far, thanks dummies!) Good prep for MCAT.
He is a hard teacher, but I felt he was completely fair. He never tested on anything that wasn't part of the lectures. He let us drop our lowest test grade and added 46 points to our total.
This is one of those classes in which you get what you put into it. If you are a student and by student I mean capable of reading the text and staying up with lectures as well as capable of studying and actually employ these capabilities you should not have a difficult time. If you are a substandard student then your grade will reflect that.
Wolin is tough but fair. He only tests on lecture/textbook material and 75% of exam q's are from the course website (he tells you this up front). Class avg is a 65% which he curves up. Good MCAT prep; most students don't read or go to lecture but complain about getting C's in a hard science course. Work hard and you'll easily get a A-/B+.
Really strict at first. Only take it if your a Bio major. Towards the end of the semester he softened up and you could see that he's a nice guy to those who work hard. He also really knows his stuff.
This man has zero to no ability to communicate with students efficiently. He expects too much and is in general a horrible human being.
Demeaning and belittling
The material is difficult, but it is what bio majors need to know. Work is required to succeed. There are weekly readings, and weekly homework assignments. Testing is over lecture / book reading only. If you?re not a bio major, take another course. If you want to be successful, sign up and buckle down. You might actually learn something.
Extremely in depth, but excellent teacher, you'll be well prepared for your future, and a good start to a pre-med emphasis.
great teacher, expects you to do your work. he watches what you do, i suggest coming to class doing your work. general paticipation.
Very, very smart aleck. He acts like students are burdening him when they ask for help. In my discussions session, he had the audacity to say that he doesn't like going over review material with students. He is a professor. It's his duty to HELP students! I would not recommend taking his courses.
Wolin is a hard teacher to get along with. If you are respectful and work hard, you will be fine. His class is also quite difficult, but I was able to get a good grade by focusing on the things he said to focus on. All in all, a good teacher
he says what he wants you to know but there is a ton of material, claims to use website but only helps on first test. second is murder and third is anatomy. he is kind of arrogant but will help if you have a grasp of the concepts.
This guy is so difficult, I cannot even explain it! He goes over 115 slides of material during each lecture. Exams are especially difficult because of the awkward wording and extensive knowledge needed of the material that goes beyond what he even talked about. SUCKS!
Great teacher. Extremely intelligent. He really knows his stuff. Very intimidating at first but he's actually a really nice guy. As long as you go to class and work hard you'll be fine.
WOLIN IS VERY SCARY. HE DOES NOT LIKE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS, SO DON'T ASK THEM. HE TALKS VERY FAST AND EXPECTS YOU TO UNDERSTAND HIS 100+ POWERPOINT SLIDES IN AN HOUR. HIS TEST ARE VERY DIFFICULT AND HE THINKS THAT IF YOU DON'T MAKE A'S ON THEM THEN YOU CAN KISS MED SCHOOL GOOD-BYE.
i would not recommend this teacher. i failed this past semester and have to retake it, he's the only bio teacher so you're pretty much stuck with him. his exams are difficut and he is arrogant
If you happen to find Dr. Wolin intimidating you should probably consider this lectures are for lecturing not for interrupting with questions. In discussion if you still feel intimidated asking questions it is very likely you have not kept up on the material.Work HARD and you can get an A.In future classes you will find his teachings INVALUABLE!!!
Dr. Wolin is one of the best professor. You probably will hate him when you take his class, but if you get a good grade, you will really thankful to him, because what he has taught you, will be really good for you for future use if you want to involve any bio-career. And he is super nice in person, just go to talk to him and ask questions!
Professor Wolin is a great Professor. At times he is intimidating, but he really teaches you. I am a nursing major and I refer back to his information in all my classes. He has really helped me. If you do the questions on the study guide you will do well. He also drops your lowest test score, and curves the tests. Pay attention and go to class.
So--all the other ratings both good and bad are totally accurate. Depends on what type of student you are. My frustration is lack of feed back on major assignments, and ridiculously confusing typos in the assignment rubric. I have learned, but I'm not going to get a good grade--and I guess it's just because I'm dumb.
He expects perfection from students, but is quite lazy sometimes himself. The class materials were littered with spelling errors, and at times, extremely ambiguous. Learned a lot, but he made it stressful with the aforementioned items and somewhat abrassive personality. Overall, he is passionate about biology and a solid teacher, but needs a little work with his social skills and attention to detail.
Dr Wolin was extraordinarily rude. I had him for the lab section of biochem and found it almost unbearable. he did not teach the course but rather waited until everyone in the class was doing very poorly and forced meetings during his office hours. he even called me stupid and lazy to my face because I asked him too many questions one day.
The labs are super long and ridiculous, and are alot more complicated that the stuff you learn in class. The class itself actually isnt that bad.
Doesnt seem to care about your thoughts or grades in the class, and is pretty rude and mean. Teaching wise, he is a good teacher.
I thought he was an excellent teacher. He explains stuff really well, and he is really good at making connections with the stuff we learned in a previous topic, which is really helpfull in biology. Its not like a class where theres different topics, this class is all one big topic, subdivided into areas of concentration, so connections are good!
Yes Wolin is extremely difficult, yes there are a ridiculous amount of slides, yes he can come off rude. If you do not follow him from day 1 you WILL fail. Honestly though,Wolin is a great prof. He prepares you for every other class you will ever take, and is VERY helpful if you go to him in person. Not for the faint hearted!
He comes across as arrogant. HOWEVER! He is an AMAZING professor. He is hard on his students because he wants them to work for the knowledge. It is not just handed to you. STUDY. The notes, the book, and definitely mastering biology. If you like BIO take Wolin. You HAVE to participate, and brush off the arrogance! And you will do FINE! :)
Horrible professor. Doesn't care to help students and makes them feel stupid if they have questions. Extremely arrogant.
Dr. Wolin is the worst instructor I have ever had. He is a smart teacher, but the way he words his questions on his exams just don't make sense, you can know the material well, but not understand his questions, so still end up guessing the answer. His test averages were in the mid 40's. The only reason his students pass is because he curves.
He is very smart but is horrible as a professor. Is lazy about grading and it took 9 weeks before he decides he needs to grade our papers. Gave the papers back to us on a Monday, and the second test was on a Thursday. He wouldn't let us turn stuff in late, but he made us cram because he took 9 weeks to grade our stuff. Ridiculous
I think Dr. Wolin is an excellent professor. His classes are NOT easy, and he makes you work very hard for the grade. He really wants you to completely understand the topic, not just memorize it for a test. I'm glad Ive had him in class. I feel like I push myself the extra step to do well when he is my teacher. Awesome if you not a slacker!
He is a very tough teacher but you are forced to actually learn if you want to pass. I thought he was quite rude at times but, if you find even the slightest thing about the class interesting pay attention and the other stuff will start to be less confusing. All of the sections play off one another so you leave the class learning things, who knew.
Dr. Wolin was intimidating at first but always extremely helpful and more than willing to spend the time to answer your questions. He did expect you to work hard. He also really knew his material and would investigate a topic to thoroughly answer your question. He is one of the best.
Explanations are very difficult to follow, not approachable or personable at all. Lectures are very boring, tests are worded very vaguely and many questions go very far beyond what you may have learned in class. Labs are worded VERY strangely and can be difficult to follow. Not a good teacher unless you already have a lot of subject knowledge.
He makes most of his students feel terrible. His first day of class speech was basically "Who wants to go to med school? Well only 110 people get in so you probably won't." Very inspirational.
You will learn a lot from him, get ready for hard work, not an easy class.
Bio 1831 is a dense class, there's a lot to learn so his power-point lectures have a ton of slides and the test questions can be very specific. If you do the assigned reading, attend lectures and lab and get clarification, this is a very rewarding class but it will be challenging! It's possible to succeed if you're motivated. He is a great prof!
I respect Dr. Wolin. This was by far much more difficult for an intro level course than I had anticipated. To be successful it is necessary to READ the assigned material before lecture. Do the mastering biology tests and pay attention in lecture. I learned a lot in this course that will be useful in the future.
Dr. Wolin is the type of professor who goes on power trips. If you answer part of a question in class you better know the entire answer if not he will humiliate you in front of the entire room. His exams are tough. I did everything in my power to pass with an A and ended with a C. Studying mastering biology only helps a little. Would not recommend.
Professor Wolin made me cry. Lets start with that. Do not expect him to be helpful or nice if you need help. Do not ask questions if you do not want to be berated. Do not answer his questions in lecture unless you literally want to be called an idiot in front of everyone. Im a typical A student and I couldn't handle his teaching. Worst Teacher.
Hard class. Must put in more than the effort stated in order to pass. Tough professor with tough expectations.
He is a very rude and stand offish teacher but you get used to it. Once you get over that he a pretty decent guy. Test are extremely tough with critical thinking required. I still remember microbiology stuff vividly. I neglected studying for other subject to study for his and I still got a C. Be ready to be frustrated!!
Wolin can be rude (it's his humor) and will call you out if your answer isn't well supported. I loved this professor though. He challenges you and expects thoughtful answers. For tests he has students submit questions that he uses for the test. He also gives 10 pts attendance each class. Easy A! Not to mention he looks exactly like John Malkovich!
Most honorable.
I started off the semester failing the class. With hard work it is possible to receive an A. Some think he is "rude" and "condescending" however he is honestly my favorite professor thus far. He makes you work for your grade and he truly believes in you. I went to study with him weekly and raised my grade from a 52 to a 90. I highly recommend.
Dr. Wolin is a good professor if you've taken other biology classes or Chem classes. I took this class as a freshman and could barely keep my head above water. Go to all the extra credit, you'll need it.
The key to success in this course is utilizing mastering biology. 70% of the tested material comes from the website, and many of the questions on exams are copied verbatim. The other material he tests (Chemical Structures, Glycolysis, etc) will be covered in recitation. Goes beyond coursework in lectures which can be confusing at times.
He was an okay professor. Wasn't required to do much besides show up for class for attendance points and to take the tests. Lectures were pretty boring. He has a sort of know-it-all personality and I just had to get used to it. As long as we did the optional discussion boards for the tests, the tests were extremely easy without doing much else.
Dr. Wolin is extremely tough, but he TEACHES and I learned more from this biology class than any other biology class I've taken at UMSL. You have to pay attention, work hard, and study for his classes. If you do all of that you'll have learned a lot and you'll be able to get an A.
Exam averages of 60%, very dry, standoffish personality, overall bad vibe. Some extra credit but not enough to really make any difference. Overall miserable class.
Here's the deal, his class is hard. But if you go and talk to Dr. Wolin, you'll find that he is a really nice guy who wants to get to know his students. He teaches at a high level and really expects students to study and know the material. This class made me a better student & has lots of EC opportunities.
For what is supposed to be an intro class, Wolin's 1831 class was full of biochem and went too in depth for an intro class. I had a buddy help me study for Wolin's tests who was in advanced biochem and they said it should not have been that hard this early. Tests are definitely tough, get ready to study, study, study.
HORRIBLE professor! If possible do NOT take him. His lectures are detailed but I feel most of the test material comes from what he says than the powerpoints. He also acts that if you cant be as smart as him then get out of there. One time I wanted to discuss my grade and his normal response was "it's in the syllabus" and his explanations are lousy
Lectures are detailed but will not help you on exam. Very rude Professor. I went for him seeking help when I was struggling and told me I will never make to medical school and that I should switch my major to liberal studies. Claims that 70 percent of exam is from mastering biology so be prepared to teach yourself. Overall one of the worst.
Dr. Wolin is the best professor at UMSL. His lectures are aimed at people who are attempting to move on in the science field. People say he dashed their dreams. However, I believe he is frighteningly realistic about your frighteningly small chance of getting into medical school with a lackluster effort. If you don't like it, work at Quik Trip.
People who like Dr. Wolin: quick thinkers, people who are not offended by being told they're wrong, people who take notes and sit up front, people who know that a 2.5 GPA no med school. People who don't like Dr. Wolin: people who struggled in intro-level classes, people who don't know how to study, people who hate science. Have fun!
I feel like he goes a bit way too in deph for a into level class, he is very dry and lectures are boring. I am better off staying at home and teaching myself. Condescending to say the least, you should know EVERYTHING he is lecturing you about. I wish more interesting professors were available. His constant "yes?" after everything he says, annoying
He's rude to students during lectures if they answer a question incorrectly or ask him to clarify something they don't understand. I stopped attending lectures because it was easier to teach myself using his Powerpoints on MyGateway. All he says is "yes?" after everything and it's the worst. Homework and online tests will help balance your grade.
Let me tell you why I like him. I'm not sensitive and I have a tough skin. "Only a human sharpens another." Doesn't pat on your back for being average. I've never taken a participation trophy in my life. His class is so easy, it requires the highest work ethic. (Confused?) He wants you to think. Critically. He prepared me for grad school.
Wolin is a smart professor, he does expect feedback. I sat in the front so he appreciated those who wanted to learn and didn't care for the ones who didn't. In the end his classwork and test became easier, I enjoyed him more when the people who didn't want to be there dropped the class, so we had more time to ask questions.
Rudess Professor ever!!!! You ask a question and he roasts you in front of the whole class and doesn't even answer your question. So mean and his lectures don't teach much. AWFUL
I understand you have to tough on kids, but its your job as a professor, to make the subject approachable and at least little fun if not easy to learn. Its an intro class, most students taking your class are there to get their bachelors and maybe not even go to med school. This is not Grad level course, get over yourself dude, seriously.
Dr. Wolin's class is tough, just like him. He expects you know the material in detail, and he helps you get there. If you actually want to learn, then you'll love him. To succeed in his class you need to engage, study, and ask questions.
He is a decent teacher, but the tests are never over what he talks about in class. He spend 3-4 weeks talking about stuff in the lectures and then a week before the test he assigns online homework and it is nothing you've been learning in class. Then the tests are over the homework and not what he's been teaching you. Don't recommend this class.
This class is tough and I do not recommend it. What he lectures about in class is never on the tests. He assigns online homework a week before the test and it doesn't really correlate with what he has been teaching. Really study the homework and you should do fine on the tests. Otherwise, Wolin is rude and I would avoid taking his classes.
He's a smart guy (obviously) a decent even seems to have a decent sense of humor but he's a really tough grader and there's only a few tests done throughout the semester that count for your lecture grade. He definitely wants you to learn and think critically but be prepared to feel like crap since he likes to talk badly to people.
Doesnt put up with any funny business in class. Expects you to rely on learning the actual concepts. Does offer extra credit opportunities when needed. More difficult for students with no chemistry background. The class overall is not as tough as the teacher himself. Good students will do well. Lax students may need to step it up a bit.
Very good lecture giver. I would suggest waiting to ask more difficult questions during office hours. UTILIZE THE SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTOR AND TUTORS!!!! Tends to not like being disrupted or contradicted in class. Brutally honest about his opinion concerning your ability to perform as a student. Is willing to help if you are honest and seek it out.
Lots of time studying, but college courses shouldn't be "easy". Be a good student, and don't expect hand-holding. Listen intently during class, spend extra time looking things up on your own, and go to all review sessions. Visit him with interesting things to talk about; he'll talk with you for hours, if he has the time.
Very intelligent professor, and was clear on what he was going to test on for the most part. However, for an intro course this was way too difficult for what it should have been. Also many people, including myself, felt like we were being talked down on quite a bit.
He's kind of a classic professor. High power distance, meaning you'll have to go through his TA's rather than him. He has a tendency to dismiss you very fast, so his bedside manner isn't that great. But, as a lecturer he really shines. He gives you the magic tools for your upcoming bio and chem classes. All you have to do is work.
Class was easy for the most part but teacher wasnt receptive of questions
I liked his teaching approach.
Dr. Wolin gets a bad rap from these other comments that I feel is undeserved; he asks plenty of questions in lecture and allows his students to answer them and if you're wrong he simply explains why. There was no making you feel bad or shaming you for asking a question. If you attend his class and put the work in - this shouldn't be difficult.
His class is really hard. He's like a machine and I don't like the way he talks to people/other students. Test in every RSD section so be ready. Moves pretty fast.
A good grade is possible but you will definitely make you work for it. Wolin is good about being accessible outside of class. He gives extra credit which can be the difference between an A and a B. He is cocky and demeaning but if you show him that you're working hard and you care he isn't that bad. Lectures are awful
Professor Wolin has a very easy way of learning! He is a very good connect-the-dots kind of guy, and makes sure students understand the information. He involves students during lecture (pretty heavily) which pushes students to remember the information better. He has high expectations, but is very laid back! He is also very funny! I appreciate him.
I have never had such a poor professor. He made me feel stupid for asking questions and had a terrible attitude. He acted like questions were annoying or stupid. Truly the worst teacher I have ever had and its a shame I had to pay $5,000 to be embarrassed, and also teach myself the material. If possible, avoid him and his negativity.
Some of these comments that support Wolin's method of teaching are misleading because I did feel stupid and embarrassed to ask questions. His attitude towards questions is uncalled for in college. Hes a grown man who likes to make students feel inadequate. Don't even address him as "Mr." its "Dr." even though the man cant spellcheck his own notes.
I've taken a couple classes w/ Professor Wolin. Here's the TRUTH: his classes are one of the hardest classes you will EVER take. But in hindsight, it's 100% worth it. Yes he's sarcastic! But you learn so much from him & he will call you out if you try to make excuses. It doesnt get any easier if you're trying to get into med/dent school. TRUST ME.
extremely condescending and awful, embarrassed to admit i sometimes cried after lecture, taught myself, he is the worst. about to graduate but had him fresh yr. acts like u should already know all the material, but then why take the class? that's what i felt like asking. my poor friend got a 69.9% and he wouldn't round her so she had to re-take
The class itself wasn't so bad it's just that I had a hard time with the tests since they were kind of worded strangely and nonspecific which really did not help my grade. Go to recitation and lab, they literally saved me from failing. He's pretty chill although he's not a fan of technology in the classroom so be conscious of that
He's arrogant & not very approachable. His lectures, while informative, are pretty dry. Also, there is way too much information covered in this course. It's hard to anticipate what will be on the exam. He does offer extra credit opportunities but, I didn't have most of my assignments graded until after midterms which was not helpul.
Professor Wolins class shouldnt be taken as an online course. To me i found it very hard to watch the hour, sometimes longer, lectures. When taken online he also doesnt stick to a schedule very well. This lead to many things getting changed around, including exams. This made it very hard to make plans or work in your personal life. Good luck!
Make sure to do well in lab and recitation. If you get good grades there you can do bad on each exam and still pass with a decent grade. He is unapproachable for questions or answers. He makes you feel dumb if you dont know an answer or if you dont know how to pronounce a word. Lectures are long and painful to watch. No reviews provided for exam
He's very sarcastic and will make you feel dumb if asking a question. His test are worded weird so make sure you read the text book and listen to his lectures, but honestly even his lectures are very misleading.
This class is one of the hardest introductory classes you will ever take. I suggest reading the textbook, he gets a majority of the test questions from the "my mastering." Additionally, I suggest you make a schedule of everything you will need to do, the class has a bunch of small components and quizzes. Good Luck!
Review the lectures and review the labs because everything is fair game.
Hes very rude and sarcastic. Its a shame hes the only Professor teaching intro to bio. Your best chance to pass this class is to READ the textbook because his lectures just end up leaving me with more questions.
Dr. Wolin expects a lot from his students as he sees this course as a means to prepare for higher level science courses and professional school. There are a significant number of quizzes, modules, etc to complete so set reminders on your phone. Test material pulls heavily from Mastering (online module) and material from prior units often retested.
I took his online, asynchronous Microbio class as a requirement. He posts long slides full of typos and information that he doesn't test you on. Not worth watching the zooms because he reads off slides. He posts quizzes every week and tests full of jargon that you have to analyze to understand what he's asking for. Also posts quizzes on exam week.
This class cannot stop you from your dreams!! People that got A's in my group, guess what? All of them are not in med/dent school. I got into 7 schools! - long story short - do your best, try to learn like using anki, interspace learning, and this class is a test for Med school. Prof needs to improve his attitude, character, and learn to be humble.
He was an awful lecturer, I wish he wasnt the only professor teaching 1831. In the future if youre able to take any other professor but him I would definitely recommend it.
Lectures weren't helpful for exams because he just reads off the slides. Better to just teach yourself the material from YouTube/textbook. I did decent on the first test but bombed every test after that with my highest exam grade being 71%. The exams were wordy and complicated. WORD OF ADVICE: Do really good in Lab and RSD class to improve grade
Get another professor if you can. Do the readings before class, he likes when people answer his questions but will often talk down to you if you get them wrong. There is too much material covered in the class, he will often go on talks about things that are irrelevant/won't be tested on. Get good grades in lab and RSD and you will be fine.
Professor Wolin is a difficult professor for sure. BUT, if you do exactly what he says you will do well. Attend every lecture, he gives hints to what he will ask on the test in lectures. DO THE MASTERING. ATTEND SI SESSIONS, they are so helpful AND worth extra credit. Study bit by bit everyday and you'll do well. I actually enjoyed his class.
Respectfully, he's the worst professor I've had during my entire time at UMSL.
Get ready to learn a lot of the material alone (out of class) without a connection to the professor!!!
Wolin is not a good teacher. He gets angry when asked a question about the material which serves to kill your curiosity on the topic. Furthermore, his tests will not contain very much from his lectures. In order to pass the class, you need to HEAVILY read the textbook, and take the online accompanying tests in order to pass. Would not take again.
350 characters is not enough to describe how much of a conceited, disrespectful, and downright unprofessional disappointment that is Mr. Wolin. He treats his introductory to biology class as a "weed out the bio majors class", which as a requirement for BS's that are non-bio majors is just completely absurd. Just take chemistry or physics instead.
Very rude and condescending, I notice that the students who actually enjoy him as a professor are usually suck-ups who use his class as academic validation. He doesn't care about his students nor is responsive, when I had his class he had tutors who weren't official but would start drama with current students. I would avoid this class overall.
This is probably the hardest introduction class, that being said to pass this class with good marks ur going to have to self-study. test answers are on the lecture slides, make notes/study the slides before or after class and go to the lecture to just make additional notes/listen, he'll tell u test answers in lecture. its aggravating but manageable
He goes on rants that are unimportant but you still have to pay attention b/c he will drop hints for whats on the test. He taught me nothing and I relied on lab partners to learn everything. He also talks down to you if you ask a question as if youre dumb for not understanding, so be prepared to teach yourself everything.
This was a tough class but well worth it and if you put in the work, you will do well. He offers extra credit (I was the only one of 50 who did it) and gives huge curves on tests by adding back questions missed from the last test. I got a 97.5% before bonus. He treats it as a weed out course. If you don't do well, it's your fault. Really liked him!
basically echoing what other students have said - Prof Wolin is one of the most downright unlikeable professors I've ever had. He's straight up rude to students who try and answer his questions. I would literally rather have anybody else as a professor than this guy. Worst teacher I've had at UMSL by far!
He is a very unlikeable and arrogant person. BUT it's not impossible to pass. Lab and recitation will help your grade A LOT so do well in those. I did best on his exams when I studied his slides. I wouldn't even bother with the book. Go to lecture, he usually will tell you what will be on the exam. Read the slides and then watch YouTube videos!
The class itself is difficult but not impossible if you actually come to lectures. If you pay attention to what he has to say and study adequately, your grade will reflect that. He may be rude at times but it is all in an effort to make you learn and understand deeply.
Lectures can be dry, but stay engaged and use tools like Unstuck study alongside the textbook to excel. Nail the labs and RSD to boost your grade. Not the easiest, but doable with effort.
Unfortunately, he's the only teacher who teaches this course. He was unkind when asked for help to say the least. Lectures will not help when looking for understanding of what he wants you to learn. You have to know every little detail and still that will be not enough.
Tough, but not impossible. I learned a lot because of how much I studied. Attend lectures, answer questions in class, sit in the front row, and take notes. If you study slides, you will do fine on exams. Do well in lab and RSD to boost your grade. If you put in the effort, Wolin will notice and possibly give extra credit at the end of the semester.
Exams are Tough but everything else is a breeze. Focus heavy on the slides
He is very blunt and doesn't teach the best. Told everyone at the beginning of the semester that he will see us next semester insinuating that we would all fail the class and his teaching style is absolutely terrible (I know i already said that but I felt like it had to be reiterated)
I took principles of endocrinology with Dr. Wolin, and genuinely believe he is one of the most caring professors but he shows it in a different way. He tries to push students in a diff aspect by asking questions based on the lecture to help understand. You have to put in the work for sure. He tends to be a bit more easy going once you ask questions
Exams can be very difficult. Many questions that appear on the exam are either vaguely related or not related at all to the material posted on the slides or homework. It's best to go to lecture in case he specifies topics that may appear on the exam.
The only professor for 1831. He has a reputation of being awful. Tests are vaguely related to lesson topics. 3+ hw assignments due each week. 6 chapters behind week before Finals. Lab topics were interesting but full of busy work like drawing graphs by hand, felt like a HS bio class. If you hate this class, just keep pressing, you are not alone.
He was constantly unprepared for lecture because the slides are disaster. They were 100+ pages most of time, and strung together by Pearson. Plus, the "unit" tests were the length of his final. Questions are poorly written, as in, they are long with awful Grammer. He expects so much out of students, but can't hold himself to the same standards.
He wasn't perfect but I feel like his low score may not be totally justified. I had no real issues with him. A few of the exam questions were questionable, and the slides were super lengthy, but if you studied them enough they were helpful for tests. He seemed highly competent in the topics and I do think he wants what's best for his students.
