Does anyone know anything about this professor?
His class is not easy. Exams were medium level, but the final which is the same format as exams was much harder than the other 2 exams. He only counts 2 best exam grades. He could be pretty mean at times. In the begining started slowly and made sure to explain everything in detail, but rushed in the end through the most difficult material.
The professor genuinely cares for his students and has only the best intentions in mind. However, tests are not easy, you need to study pretty hard unless you know a lot about derivatives. Midterms were indeed easier than the final and material in the end of class was sort of rushed through. Very smart man though who takes his work seriosly.
First off, not the easiest subject, no matter who is teaching. Given that, good job of explaining the concepts and is thorough for the first 2/3rds of the class. Last 3rd is rushed. Final much harder than other tests! Picks best two. Seemed respectful of students to me. Accent not a problem. Taught at Columbia BS. High grade with solid studying.
good guy - take him
Teaches EXTREMELY slowly at the start. Didn’t finish topics on the syllabus. A result of too much spoon-feeding. Exams are doable with decent studying. Teaches mechanically and is somewhat dry (disinterested at times). Takes the better of two exams for the final grade and does not curve. The options course in the math department may be better.
Great class! Very interesting lectures, you''ll learn a lot about options, futures and forwards
Take him. The best choice for options. study the book well and you should be fine. Study as you go so you dont get lost in the middle of the term. Nice guy that cares about his students. The course is difficult but easy to do well if you put enough effort into it.
Easy A. Decent Prof. Not Great. Listen carefully during the exam review. He will reveal the exam questions. The third exam is the hardest of the three but he drops one test.
If you did not take options in undergrad, this class will screw up your GPA.Prof. spends half of semester explaining simple basics, then rushes through the most complicated 2/3rds of the material in 1 month time!!! Sample exams different from actual ones. Final is unreasonably tough.Solutions manual not helpful, because exams are more complicated.
Very slow with the initial easy material but then rushes for the harder later material. Sample exams are useless and the test is harder then the text problems. This is a very frustrating class. NOT GOOD AT ALL
Prof. Giannikos made the class very easy considering finance is not exactly the easiest subject. He does start a little slow, but he just wants you to understand the starting material in order to be able to understand the rest. He doesnt take attendance, but doesnt like when his students walk out of the classroom and leave. i recommend him.
the subject is really tough- if you dont like finance you will still like him. He teaches in a way that u can apply it. his lectures are not boring and he gives a good review and good examples. do the homework! p.s. hes kinda cute and the accent is sexy. T/F are killer on exams u have to read the book and do the problems no way around it
Always late. Leaves early. Too slow with what he teaches and only has one of those questions on the exam. Lazy, only gives 20 questions for the final so study your tail off. If you get 2 wrong you automatically start with a A- B+. It's a stupid system
Taking option calss with him was the worst choice i made. Exam was extremely difficult, first midterm class avge is 43/100, second midterm was even worse. People spent days studying for the test for nothing. Whats the point of studying so hard if the test is impossible to pass?
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Although he willing to offer help to students but all his exam are crazy hard. He teaches the very basic things only but what he taught is not enough to answer the questions in the exams at all. He screwed up my GPA. I never encountered a bad professor like him b4.
He is nice and he'll take the time out to answer your questions but a nice personality will not help you pass his extremely tricky exams. The material presented throughout the duration of the course (including the hw probs or the sample exam) will not help. No matter how hard you study he will give you nothing near the level of difficulty of the a
If you really want to learn, and get a good grade by taking reasonable test, than you definitely need to take some one else. I studied really hard based on what he taught in the class and assigned homework problem, but the test was no were near the staff he taught or assigned. His test are like you are in Harvard and you should be as smart as him.
Real life scenario- 3.4 student takes his option class, goes to EVERY class, thinks she knows what he's talking about reads the book..first exam gets a 55.. cries.. studies extra hard for second exam.. gets a 25!!! TAKE AT OWN RISK!!! Tests are NOTHING like HW or practice test. so sad.. buh bye 3.4 gpa. =(
overall he is a good teacher his exams are difficult and not m.c.. dont know what to expect.. sample exams are nothing like the real one! do the reading on your own!!!
Have to read book on your own. Professor is a very knowledgeable in his field and explains material in term like you are an expert too. It took him forever to post grades, but he gave a huge curve since average in class was around 40-45 for 2 midterms. If you want to learn you should take this class, but start to work from the very beginning of the
Do not take this guy, he is waist of time. Very taugh grader and not easy to communocate with. Avoid at all cost!
Avoide at all cost! This professor is not clear at all, he can't manage his time, he is all over the place. The exams are stupid hard, only 4 questions equally weighted so you really will do bad if you have only couple of mistakes. And belive me he takes a lot of points off if you don't write a full explanation. FYI and he doesn't curve eather!
Avoid this professor at all costs. By far the worst professor I've ever had at Baruch. Comes ten minutes late to every class and covers 5-6 less chapters than every other section. You will leave this class knowing nothing compared to your colleagues. Stay away.
Horrible Professor! 2 midterms and 1 final graded evenly. 4 questions/exam. short essays explaining questions. the explanations are never good enough so before you know it, you are at 65. If I had to take him again, I would go to NYU and jump out the window. avoid at all costs. He screwed up my GPA.
Thats why I dropped this a hole. I told you ppl he sucks. I dropped him and took somebody else. Covered 12 chapters and learned something. Thank god I dropped him. I repeat, thank god I dropped him. Still have my 3.9 GPA baby!
Overall, this professor is ok. He gave 3 exams, 2 mid-term is 10 Question, 10 point each. Note the exam is Hard if you have no finance background. He said out of the two mid-term he will drop the one with the lowest score, so if you did will on one of them you should be doing fine. But, be prepare his exams is very hard.
Great teacher. Explains concepts clearly. Takes the time to answer any questions you may have. Responds to emails in a timely manner. Take him if you want to learn something.
must take! really easy tests!
Just understand the practice exams and homework, and you will understand all you need for the exams. Actual tests are very similar to practice tests. No attendance is taken, really no point to come to class besides exams. Takes a long time to go over the material in depth, which is, but more beyond what material the exam contains. Recommended !
Very reasonable professor, does not take attendance, clear and straightforward powerpoints. (Read slides) + (do homework)=A
Doesn't show up for his own tests. Late every day. Tells you the test will be multiple choice, then gives a written test. Tells you if you study the practice tests you will be fine then puts different topics on the actual test. Horrible professor
Absolutely horrible. I am an honors student, don't usually complain about profsrs. but this guy is something else. Tests filled w. mistakes & incoherence yet he instructs TA's to not even take Q's during the exams (which he doesn't bother to show up for). Can't teach. Rude. Useless. If he's the only prof avlbl, wait a semester. AVOID at all cost.
Class is a joke. He gave us sample exams on MyLab and they were the same as the actual exams, just the numbers were changed. Basically...he gives you the exams beforehand.
I took FIN-3000 in the summer session and it was intense but definitely doable! The prof is ok, exams are exactly like HW and practice exam problems, so just practice those and should be fine. Better than other finance profs I've heard about.
The exams are almost identical to the MyFinanceLab practice exams he posts. He just changes the number. So you won't learn anything, but you should do well if you do the homework, practice/memorize the practice exams and calculator functions. Boring class, he has a slight accent you might have trouble understanding, and you definitely won't learn.
Two midterms and one final. They are the same as the sample exams he gives out, just with different numbers. So practice the sample exams and do the homework, you will get an A. The class itself is pretty boring because he runs through stuff pretty quickly. Unless it's exam day, more than 60% of the class never shows up..this tells you something..
The professor starts late every class, took a 20 minute break during a two-hour class, and moved much too quickly w/ no explanations. A problem-solving class with no problem sets? He posted the sample final exam the day before the final! The actual exam looked nothing like the sample exams. I have never studied so hard for such a subpar grade.
Fastest GPA killer at Baruch. Don't do it. Just don't. Seriously. He assigns a ton of workreading that has nothing to do with the exams. You'd think the book & slides he reads word for word were for a different class altogether. He tells you he will curve and then doesn't even when exam averages are 70. Easily my worse academic decision ever.
Don't expect to learn from class. He does not go over exam like questions. You will be surprised how difficult the exams are compared to his lectures. Nice guy overall.
He is the Best professor i ever had. His class is very easy !!!As long as you study, getting A is a piece of cake :)
This prof is a clear example of an amazing professor that is slightly lazy. He is an amazing teacher, he explains difficult concepts extremely well, however when it came time to testing his students, there was little correlation with what he taught in class- it looks like he was too lazy to look through the test banks he uses- GPA might suffer
The easiest professor ever!! STRONGLY recommended HIM Take him for easy A!!!!
He barely speaks English in class ,and his accent is so heavy. The test is tough and horrible .
Took him for the summer 2016 course. His exams are nothing like the sample exam or hw. He talks very fast in class and it's hard to follow. He reads off the ppt slides. His exams are tricky and full of mistakes. I would not recommend him as a professor. His accent is very heavy. The avg on the exams is like a 40% very difficult class
The attendance counts 5% of the entire grade. His lecture doesn't help. You need to understand materials through homework. However, homework contains a lot of questions. 40% questions of the questions do not related to the tests. Be prepare to get challenged in the first midterm especially if you feel the material and homework are easy.
Prof G. is a good professor. You must follow the class and be prepared to read. Also do the homework and read the textbook. His exams are based on the homework but not identical to the questions.
His lectures are basically just him reading off some slides. He mumbles all the way though, so you won't really understand him. Doesn't really teach much. Exams are unrelated to the whatever he "teaches". Don't take his class. If you do, you better get ready to learn by yourself.
Awful professor!Ruined my GPA! Took him for summer class. All he does is read off slides, his accent is hard to understand, his reviews are nothing like the actual exams, made a lot of mistakes grading the exams, discourages asking questions. He doesn't care about students, so you are on your own. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy!! Stay away.
just some heads up-doesn't curve, GPA killer, tough grader, tough tests. don't do this to yourself!
Boring class!. The professor goes over the slides and explains exercises quickly. If you take this class you would have to study on your own. Tests are extremely difficult.
Three words: unfair, dishonest, stubborn When you study for tests, you don't just have to be worried about how prepared you'll be, you also have to worry about how many questions on the test will be unfair or contain typos. Very unfortunate, but out of your control. Worst professor- avoid!
DONT TAKE HIM. The subject material was interesting but it wasnt taught in an interesting manner. Professor literally just read through the slides, which students can do by themselves. he didnt put any extra effort to engage students. The exams were difficult and we never did any practice questions in class for each chapter.
On the first day, he gives a great elevator speech about how bright he is and how far he's come but his words fall flat over the coming weeks since its clear he just reads off the slides. Lectures do nothing, takes attendance at the end of class randomly. Tests are hard if you dont read the entire chapter... recipe for disaster. BE CAREFUL
Mostly read off the slides, but he went so slow that he couldn't finish his lectures. His exams were just like his sample exams, just different questions. But I didn't really learn anything from him, I had to study on my own. I got a 70 and 65 on the midterms (drops lowest midterm) and not sure on the final but got an A- overall.
By no means is he an interesting professor, he reads off the slides the entire time. However, if you do the homework on MyFinanceLab and study his sample exams, you will pass. I don't think I paid attention once in his class, nor do I know anything about Finance really, but still managed to get an A. MFL homework was brutal though.
took his 4610 this spring 17. our average was like 48%. he does not care about us. he just comes to Baruch to get his check. he rushes through the lecture and expects you to get it. The midterms are very long and extremely difficult. plus he says he gives partial credit for the steps but does not. please don't take him you will regret it.
took him for 3710 this semester and god do i regret it WORSE PROFESSOR EVER. reads off the notes word by word, no extra explanations you get lost once in his class, you are screwed you'll be lost for the rest of the semester if its a last option and you HAVE to take him good luck his midterm is the worst and hardest thing ever
He is not that bad as many students said here. You will get easy A if you do his homework, which are not required to hand to him. He takes the highest grade of two midterm, 30%. He gives two presentations, one group and one individual. Final is accumulated and counts for 45%. Take him if you don't mind his heavy accent.
Professor Giannikos definately knows what he is talking about, but he is unable to connect the lectures to the exams. The HW and textbook are hard to relate to the exam. More time should have been dedicated to solving these questions
Like someone previously said, the exams are no where near close to the HW and lectures. He seems like a nice person but not a good teacher.
He makes it thorough on what hes expecting from students. Hell take the highest of the 2 midterms (whichever has a better curve) and count it twice, theres the final, and finally the CONNECT HW. Attendance is mandatory; he does it at the end of his class. Im taking him again for 4710, and I just use the TB to revise. Find good peers.
Exams are very difficult. Lectures and exam questions have zero relation, so you have to figure it out on your own. 2 exams, drops lowest grade. Try to write first exam well, bc second one will be way more difficult. Final is a disaster. Write all of the formulas down and try to use them in different scenarios.
GPA killer. Avoid. His lectures were extremely boring and unorganized. Exams were full of typos and he refused to acknowledge them. The only positive thing I can say about this professor is that he curves grades.
Two midterm exams, one final, one individual presentation and group presentation. Drops the lowest grade of the worst exam. He gives this great elevator pitch about his career but honestly the guy can't teach. Reads off from the slides, doesn't acknowledge when students has issues, mostly all self-taught. FORM STUDY GROUPS
Basically reads off slides. Tests don't reflect what he speaks on in class, but he gives a practice test the week of, which is similar. There's 3 tests, with the lowest being dropped. No homework. One individual, and one group presentation. Humiliates with the questions after presentations, so be prepared. Late with grading. Study practice exams.
Professor Christos is a good professor, his explanations are clear but his test are different from what he explains they come directly from Test Banks so try to find those TB to pass this class with an A. I took him on Summer and he gave 3 test and dropped the lowest one, also a group project
So I see a ton of harsh grades for professor Giannikos. First of all, his tests are EXTREMELY hard, and he does tend to fall behind on material. However, if you come to his class, and pay attention, his exams are actually super doable. My advice is to study the textbook before class and you should be fine.
This class was a challenging class. Exams questions are similar to the homework and sometimes practice exams so study H.W. He definitely gives you a better grade than what you do deserve. Group project is okay but he does bombard you with questions. Lectures are pretty boring. I fell asleep in practically all of them and still came out with a B+.
Avoid him if you can.
Take this class for an Easy A, but not to learn. His teaching skills are subpar, but his tests mirror his HW- as long as you study that- it should be easy. He also curves heavy- usually boosting you a grade.
This dude is horrible. Tests are easy but you will be doing about a days worth of homework every single week. Would rather have had a harder class with less work than this nonsense.
tests are moderate & doable. however for our final presentation, he absolutely ripped students apart for little things that were not mentioned on the project guidelines. if you can take someone else, please do.
Professor Giannikos is not very helpful to be honest. You must study ONLY on your own, study by the textbook, since his slides, lectures and Homeworks are definitely not enough to write the tests. The previous comment that this is an "easy class" is false.
FIN3710 is exactly the same as FIN3000. Idk what these reviews are about but he's not bad at all. His slides are right to the point I retake my notes from them. The hw is on Connect and unlimited attempts. The tests are similar to the hw. 2 midterms, 1 final. I'm looking to take him again for future finance courses.
He will mess up your grade. One of the worst professors ever. Be careful with how he grades your work. Took days to get back test grades kinda weird. He says he curved my class but I am believing he just gave grades at random. Please avoid.
Zoom not required. Hw is easy and on chegg. Tests are ok very similar to hw and could also be on chegg. My advice is to be familiar with the sample final and it should be an easy a. He also gives a hard project which he criticizes very much but he is a leniant grader
The professor is a nice guy, but I felt like I learned nothing at all. The material that we learned in the lectures vaguely translates to the actual homework itself, which can take hours to complete. Exams are similar to the homework and the practice tests, and consist entirely of fill in the blank questions. There is a group project at the end.
He does give a second attempt for assignments but doesnt allow to check which answers you got wrong on the first one. Tough grader and not flexible with deadlines or grades. His lectures were heavy af and he mainly read from the slides. It wasnt engaging not interactive. Hes knowledgeable but I didnt enjoy his lectures.
Nice man but horrible professor he doesn't teach. His exams are difficult nothing like the material. Doesn't give you access to check your work on assignments until after they're due which doesn't help when you're trying to learn the material. Class Avg was a 53. He oddly doesn't hand back tests for you to check your grades and verify. Avoid him.
To be honest I extremely disagree with such bad rating.
The overall class was not hard. Long HWs (average 2-4 hours to do). There was a group project which was easy and based on individual participation (know what your project is about). 2 Tests that were kind of hard but most questions were on practice exams (median was around 60%). Just ask questions, attend everyday and you should be fine.
He doesn't care about his students, he speaks quietly never has office hours and never seems to want to help his students. The first midterm was 52% and the second midterm was 48% so if you meet above the average then you pass. Meaning half the class will fail, no matter what because the curve is passing if you meet above the average.
He is not a tough grader but it matters the effort you put in. The presentation is hard but its important to put at work what you learned in the course.
He isn't a bad professor I want to say that first. However, he speaks very quietly and with his accent it can be hard to understand at times. Midterms avg was a 40 & spent 30 mins asking questions on the presentation. He also takes forever to grade. Other than that I enjoyed his class. Study, show up, do your work, and you'll do fine. Good-luck!
Nice prof. Grading was based on 2Midterms 60%, presentation 20% & HW 20%. Exams are identical to HW & cheatsheet allowed. Presentation was easy but he was asking alot of questions to students he did not understand the presentation question. Nice class.
