Professor Beal goes through her slides pretty fast but allows you to take pictures of them. Exams are really tough & BIOs forms don't help. The workshops are mandatory and quizzes are really easy compared to the exams.
Professor Beal is really energetic when she lectures, which is good when taking a class like Gen Bio. Only critique is that her slides always seem incomplete and are in fragments. Don't fully rely on the slides to get you through the class. Otherwise, she is always willing to help when you need it.
You have to read and if you're a good listener def. take her! She says stuff that sticks out. But if you're dependent on good notes, take Keating. I just found Keating notes or used bialigy videos which uses keatings notes in flowchart form. She's good at helping you remembering key things but notes suck.
She is a very nice lady. However, bio 1-2 themselves have a ton of information to memorize. Don't expect to get a good grade just by studying the lecture note. Her lecture was interesting and her office hour is helpful too. Study the lecture note and read the book and know the outcomes, you will get an A for sure.
Dr. Beal wants her students to do well and this is evident in any experience you have with her (e.g., lecture, office hours, scheduled meetings, time after class). However, to do well, your best bet is to take detailed notes, read the textbook, and complete the study outcomes as a way to organize your notes.
Dr. Beal is very energetic and makes Biology not as boring. Her slides aren't the best though, they are very disorganized. She does her best to help you if you attend office hours however. For her age, she's actually pretty hot.
Dr. Beal is a nice lady and makes her lectures very interesting. However, her slides are sometimes incomplete. If you take detailed notes and read before the workshop, you will do well in this class. She is helpful during her office hours, and is a respected Biology professor.
Hands down the best instructor I've ever had. Her energy, eagerness, and love for biology opens your eyes to how interesting the field really is. She makes amazing, thought-provoking connections between the lectures which can help for the exams (do NOT skip her lectures, they're always great). Also, her office hours are ALWAYS helpful. Love her!
Dr. Beal is an amazing lecturer. Her lectures are always very interesting as she provides many useful anecdotes. You can really tell she cares about the class. BEWARE OF WORKSHOP. That will take a chunk out of your grade. Exams will be like nothing you do in workshop. You need to go to lecture to get the notes as the BIO dept. does not post them.
She is by far the best professor I've had since coming to Rutgers. She is caring and helpful. She loves what she does and tries her best to make sure we all do as well. Easy to access, (she actually responded to an email I sent her as I was writing this), in general if you email her before 10:00 pm she will most likely respond to you that day.
Although Prof Beal was nice and tried to be helpful, her power points were horrible and unfinished. I ended up having to use my friends notes, who had a different prof, to study. Unfortunately I didn't realize this until the second exam. I wouldn't recommend unless you're willing to read every bio chapter or are a really good listener.
Her lectures and notes were very clear and easy to understand. She took time to answer every question and I felt prepared for the tests. I made sure I took Bio II with her too.
Such an attractive woman!
She's an absolutely amazing professor! Even through the boring bits of bio, she kept up her enthusiasm and always found ways to make the material more relatable, cracked (silly) jokes, and gave us tips on how to remember little details. Everything she did helped me a LOT to remember the material and actually motivated me to go to lecture. The best!
Beal is definitely one of the best professors to take for bio! She explains things at the perfect pace. Her slides give you exactly what you need and don't fluff it up with so many extra details. I took bio before with another professor and definitely learned so much more with Beal and was actually able to retain info from her lectures!
Professor Beal is literally amazing. I retook gen bio 1 in the summer with her and I actually learned so much more than I did the first time I took the course. She actually takes time to answer questions and thoroughly explain the material. All her slides are very straightforward and very helpful. Highly recommend taking her for Bio!!!!
Dr. Beal is an amazing lecturer. She's engaging through out lecture which helps to pay attention and actually understand the material that she is teaching. For Bio115, she holds office hours before & after lecture which is sooo helpful. She explains concepts in the simplest & straightforward methods possible. The lectures are paced out really well.
She's passionate, and she's good at simplifying complex things. Also she's one of the easiest professors to talk to and email. She'll always make time for you. She can be a tad too over-simplistic but if you use BIALIGY (!! life saver!!) you're good. Biology is the easiest class ever. Also Bios forms are useless but that's the department not her.
Prof Beal is a great lecturer and is super passionate about biology. She is always willing to help and even offers thorough help through email.
It's bio, it's going to be a time consuming and difficult class. What makes it more difficult is that Dr. Beal doesn't post the slides and at the speed that she went, I really wish she did. She would also go off on random tangents. She is an enthusiastic lecturer though.
Dr. Beal literally is the best professor at Rutger. Had her for 115 and made sure I have her again for 116! Office hours are so helpful, and she answers emails really quick. In fact, I want to be a bio professor just like her, we even sorta look alike! Caring, amazing, so happy I have her again next semester!
Although attendance isn't mandatory, you shouldn't skip bio lecture and expect agood grade. Gen bio is really hard, but Professor Beal explains everything thoroughly. Her slides are not online, so you can get notes in class or from a loyal friend. She is available for review sessions multiple times a week and she is very good at explaining concept
Dr. Beal is a great lecturer - she's very enthusiastic and you can tell she loves Biology - but doing well in Bio is ultimately up to the student. Attend every lecture and take notes. If the notes are too simplistic for you, either read the textbook or watch Bialigy videos to enhance your understanding. Don't slack off and study weekly to do well.
General biology is not an easy class but professor Beal really helps with that. You will have to put a lot of effort outside of class and I recommend going to her office hours. Her lectures are interesting and she uses great examples to help us remember the information.
Beal is a great prof, I love her, she made bio interesting but she went too fast and went through like 30 slides per class. BIO is hard asf, the exams were impossible, workshop quizzes were just as bad. honestly it was so bad that I dropped it after the first exam even though I did fine. It was just horrible and requires A LOT of effort & work
Prof. Beal was a good professor. Her lectures were very long though and she spends a lot of time answering student questions (good for those asking questions but she tends to go off on tangents) and this usually means we fell behind Dr. Sterns class. She is animated and clearly passionate about her job. Powerpoints aren't posted online .
Dr. Beal is a great lecturer. She has so much enthusiasm about biology and she makes lectures entertaining. Some lectures are dry but that's just the nature of the curriculum. Her PowerPoints are very easy to follow and structured very well. You will need to study and suffer through workshop but it definitely achievable.
Love how passionate and enthusiastic she is in lecture. Beal's lectures are interesting and fairly easy to understand. She holds helpful review sessions that reinforce understanding and gives you extra practice if you're struggling. I recommend going to these small reviews rather than the big reviews before exams because they're not as helpful.
This is the second semester I've had Dr. Beal and she is a real gem. Her enthusiasm for biology (and especially bugs) is never ending. Sometimes I was annoyed by her slides toward the end of the semester where you learned body systems, but it is hard material to present so I understand it. Biology isn't the easiest class, but Beal makes it better.
She is the most accessible professor I've had and if you want to meet with her she will do anything to facilitate that. She is good at simplifying concepts and is passionate. However exams require you to know small details she mentions only briefly so pay attention and use textbook diagrams. If you're not good at memorizing this will take effort.
An angel and a treasure. I didn't care much for the class itself, in fact, I kind of despised it, but professor Beal really did try her best to do what she could for her students and it really shows. It is absolutely astonishing how much time and attention she gives to each individual student considering how many she has! Great professor, recommend
I took Beal for both Gen Bio 115 and 116 and I regret nothing. Biology at Rutgers is so hard, and she really tries her best to make the material interesting and easy to understand. She's super compassionate and enthusiastic about her material, it's adorable. I also LOVE her red blood cell dress during Immunity Lectures this semester, so funny!
She can definitely get it!
Dr. Beal is an absolutely fantastic person and an amazing lecturer! I took Bio 115 and 116 with her (both difficult courses) and I honestly don't think I would have done as well as I did without her. She is so quirky, sweet, and interesting, and that really comes through in the way she teaches and presents information. Definitely take her!!!
Dr. Beal is amazing. I had her for Bio 115 and Bio 116 and she was the best. Her lectures were entertaining and she was always very enthusiastic. She knows her stuff and explains it well. Sometimes the lectures are confusing, but she answers all questions and is accessible outside of class. Highly recommend her for gen bio.
Beal is really awesome! She is so enthusiastic about the material that shows in her lectures. She really explains things really well. She always helps those who ask of her and she has office hours an hour before and after each lecture so she really is very accessible (especially for the more heavier material in biology).
She is good and her exams are really straight forward. I took the summer course which is extremely fast paced and you cant leave anything for last minute. If you put in the time you will be fine.
She is so enthusiastic and explains topics very well. She uses common analogies to make confusing topics easy to understand.
Dr. Beal is really nice her lectures are interesting with back stories of the topics we are learning. During the office hours she makes it clear of what is to be expected on the exam. I took it over the summer and it is very fast paced but it can be done just have to keep up with the material and cant get behind.
she explains topics very well and makes them easy for students to understand, I took the summer course so it was extremely fast but also very manageable if you put in the time.
Best professor for bio
Overall a pretty decent lecturer, only complaint was that she tends to go over time a lot / teach too slowly. She's funny, organized, and clear, not a bad professor by any means. Bio department is pretty bad, but exams are straightforward and predictable, just makes sure to do well in workshop and study from your notes, there are no online slides
Bio department at Rutgers is not great to begin with, but Beal is pretty decent. Make sure you attend lecture or get the notes from someone because notes are not posted online. Exams are difficult; you really have to study for them and notes will help with that. If you want an A, you have to go to office hours.
Dr. Beal is so cute, she really does her best to make all of the lectures fun, and gives hints to what will be on the exams. If you take good lecture notes and do you BiOs forms you'll be good for at least a B! She's easy to talk to and understand. I'm going out of my way to take her again for 116!
You can tell how much she loves bio and she's very approachable. During lecture, it's hard to keep up with what she's saying while writing everything down, but it's a doable class. I haven't taken biology since freshman year of high school and managed. Bio workshops can be annoying--beware. Don't get lazy and stop going to lectures!!
It is obvious that she really likes bio, but at the same time I personally just did not like her lectures. she can be boring and goes very fast, and does not define words often. i put a lot of work into this class, but did not really see it pay off. exams are so difficult and do not correspond with class (she puts questions from the MCAT on).
Rutgers Bio is already known to be rigorous, but Beal tries to make it manageable. Going to office hours for confusing lectures was very helpful. The exams are very difficult, so are the workshop quizzes so make sure you focus and study hard. Good luck
Really liked Beal, she does and incredible job of teaching the information. She prepares you for the exams, and her lectures are entertaining. The only thing I hated about her class was the workshops. They are just annoying and your experience depends on your TA.
Pay attention during lecture and go to her office hours! She's so sweet and will answer any quations you have. She's your greatest tool in this class. Workshop does not help so study hard because tests are not easy.
Love Beal! Her lectures are great and she provides examples to help you understand the topic more. She answers questions in lecture even if you're in the back she comes to you. But her office hours were the real gem. Reason I went up from a C first exam to an A. I couldn't get ploidy down and she kept helping me til I fully got it. Love her so much
Dr Beal is maybe the most wonderful professor I've ever had. Perhaps the most wonderful educational professional I've ever met. She is gifted, talented, her patience is bottomless, she would truly go to the ends of the earth for her students, and she is also brilliant, truly an endless source of inspiration and learning. She always has time for you
Dr. Beal is awesome! Class is tough but her lectures clearly outline what is expected. Study the notes well and memorize organizers and you will be fine.
Go to class, this class was no joke. Bio 1 was easy, Bio 2 was so difficult from the get-go and I got my first D on an exam here (Exam 2). Dr Beal is amazing n very clear but your notes need to be exactly what comes out her mouth because her slides don't have all the info on it. But I love her personality and passion for bio, she's a wonderful prof
So I had Dr. Beal for both Bio 115 and 116, and I would gladly take her again for another class. She is truly one of the best professors here at Rutgers and she is very helpful during office hours. Somethings that I wish I did differently were reading the textbook and studying consistently. This class makes you work; prepare for workshop. -DJ Ilium
Bio at Rutgers is HARD! Beal is a good professor. She is very intelligent and respected. She is so kind and never makes you feel dumb for asking questions. STUDY FROM THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS! MAKE OUTLINES! GO TO WORKSHOP AND STUDY BEFORE! Workshop can boost your grade sooooo much so take it seriously.
Dr. Beal is an amazing professor despite how difficult the class is. Make sure you go to workshop and study, study, study! I wouldn't say she makes the class easier, but she is very clear in her lectures and SUPER willing to help her students.
Lecture and tests don't match up very well at ALL! I came to every lecture and studied a lot for this class, but it was still extremely difficult. During class she'll explain how things work normally, and the exam will be about what would happen if it doesn't work how its supposed to. Super hard class and definitely don't recommend taking it.
Dr. Beal was such an amazing and enthusiastic professor!! Her lectures were thorough and concise and I enjoyed attending each and every one. She holds office hours before and after almost every lecture and is very helpful overall. The curriculum of Bio115 is tedious and challenging, but she mad it so much better :)
She's nice and energetic. In my opinion, when she's talking about the slides a lot of the things she says are irrelevant, just make sure you know everything on the slides. The curve in the class was literally trash.
IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE BIO AT RUTGERS, TAKE BEAL YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. she is truly truly truly passionate about what she teaches. she will make bio interesting. 10/10 would take her over and over and over again. I took her for 115 and 116. Use recent old exams to study and do very well in workshop. you have to EARN a good grade but she's wonderful.
Loved Professor Beal. Had her for Bio 1 and 2 and she was great. She's so passionate about what she's teaching and has really helpful office hours.
I was in Dr. Beal's class for Biology 115 and 116, and she was a truly phenomenal professor. Very passionate about what she teaches, and she has 6 hours worth of office hours per week. I am going to definitely miss being in her lectures! I wish she taught upper-level biology classes. :)
Shes really funny, doesnt use textbook, loves worms
Overhyped in my opinion. I took her class because the reviews here were amazing, but her lectures are so unorganized it's frustrating. Perhaps this is the case because I'm taking her class fully online. She is very nice and cares about her students but since she has so many students it's hard to really feel the full effect of how much she cares.
Personally, she's a sweet teacher, but her lectures don't reflect the level of difficulty or content on the exams. General Biology is hard in general, but the bio department doesn't make it any easier for you at all. Online classes for Biology is tremendously harder than in- person, and I don't find that fair at all.
She tells you what will be on the exam through the key points to focus on for each lecture. Many people taking this class are hoping to go to med school, so the exam questions focus on the APPLICATION of concepts rather than just definition, similar to the MCAT. This is a college-level bio course, you still have to put in work especially online.
I took gen bio because with stern-cardinale because I heard so many good things about him but he was gone the first month during the first semester of 2020. I watched beals lectures and she was definitely overhyped. The bio department at rutgers expects you to be robots and doesn't care for mistakes. The test look like brand new material. HORRIBLE
I took this class because I was under the impression that she's a straightforward and organized professor-which isn't the case at all. Dr. Beal has an amazing heart and is very smart, however, I leave her lecture reviews more confused than I did prior to them and she drifts off topic a lot. The exams are really difficult with not enough time.
Although the semester hasn't wrapped up yet, here's some advice for students taking Dr. Beal's BIO115 course in the future: SHE'S AMAZING! I've never been that great at biology but she made it super easy and simple to understand. With that said, her exams can be a tricky if you aren't careful, and if you're online, REMEMBER TO DO PRACTICE Qs!
Go to office hours to go over material, it really helps. She is very accommodating and the bio department handled the online semester a lot better than other departments. Keep up with lectures, textbook is not used.
Dr. Beal is such a nice person but the way she teaches is very unhelpful. Lecture material seems very easy when compared to exam material. You have to really work hard in this class as its very difficult. Not sure I will pass this class.
If you don't need to take it DON'T. This class is extremely difficult and had a lot of students struggling with their mental health. I cried after the exam because of how brutal the course is. You have to learn everything and be able to apply the knowledge to the test questions. Test questions have more than one answer so no memorizing/cramming.
Let me start by saying that she's so adorable. You can tell she loves what she does, she wears a chromosome shirt sometimes during her lectures. She kinda reminds me of Ms. Frizzle and for that I wish I can give her a virtual hug. Seriously, she's a really good lecturer. Bio is still a really hard subject, but she makes learning doable.
Dr. Beal has a wonderful personality and even during a pandemic, I have learned a great deal in her class. Doing the organizers she assigns to you is very important, and will be useful for studying for the exams which will be the majority of your final grade. Dr. Beal's review sessions are helpful and it is overall a wonderful environment!
Dr. Beal has a very bubbly personality which makes the lectures and review sessions much more manageable despite the lecture-heavy course. She is genuinely interested in the topic and her energy is very radiant through the way she presents the material
Dr. Beal is a great professor and cares greatly for her students. However, now that its online Bio 115 is twice the work because you have to watch her prerecorded lectures and then her zoom lectures. There are only 2 midterms and a final. She definitely makes you work for your grade so be prepared to put in the time for the grade you want.
Professor Beal is a really caring woman. However, she tends to get off-topic sometimes. Biology 115 is very hard at Rutgers and requires full commitment. The lectures are heavy, but professor Beal does a good job of explaining concepts and answering your questions. You definitely have ti study outside of class if you want to pass.
She always tries to answer your questions, and she makes biology interesting to learn. Her many examples made concepts easier to grasp. The best ways to succeed are going to her zoom lectures, practicing your organizers, and especially reevaluating your studying strategies. She really helped me learn more on how to study smarter than hander.
She's really nice and helps you understand the material! TAKE HER!
Dr. Beal was amazing at explaining the topics covered in 115 and she always made lectures fun and engaging which was super helpful since a lot of content is memory-based and her anecdotes and examples truly helped me get through the semester. I would definitely recommend taking her class!
Dr. Beal is a fun lecturer & she tries to make all of her lectures fun, interesting, & engaging. She has a hand in making the exams and they are very fair. I did not find her review sections helpful but all of the information they will test you on the exams is given to you. Workshops make up 40% of the total grade so it is important you ace that.
Dr. Beal is a sweet person who really knows her material, but during reviews she gets very distracted by what students say in the chat. Often, she goes in depth on irrelevant things rather than explaining the lecture material. I found her reviews eh. Her lecture videos are also long sometimes since she included side stories about insects.
Gen Bio is such a tough course overall and the material can be a lot, but Christy Beal is so passionate about the material and what you are learning to point where Gen Bio is actually bearable. During this semester online, I highly recommend going to her reviews, which is one thing I regret not doing this semester.
Dr. Beal is the best!! Gen Bio is a lot of material, BUT STUDY from Day 1. Review Sakai before Day 1, watch lectures on the day you would have class so you dont fall behind, join a study group (easy A). MAKE PRACTICE QUESTIONS to simulate exams make them based off your outcomes & organizers. Dont use the textbook unless you really need to. GL!
You can tell Dr. Beal really cares about her students. Her lecture videos are long, but take breaks when needed. Go to her review sessions!!! Even if you think youve mastered the material. Dont be arrogant because you can learn a lot from her reviews as long as you come prepared with qs. You got this!
She really cares about her students for sure. I recommend watching the lecture videos the same day you would have class to avoid falling behind. Her lecture videos go on for about an hour but they're broken up into 3-4 parts. On the days you would have a lecture, she has practice sessions where you can come with questions or just listen to others.
Dr. Beal's lectures were really clear and covered all the material on exams so you don't need the textbook. She hold's office hours twice a week which help if you are confused. Her lectures are online so you can do them on your own time. A is def doable with consistent review of her lectures and doing and redoing organizers. Good experience overall
Beal is a sweetie! In my opinion, her lectures and review sessions are really comprehensive. She's really understanding & patient too! I would always ask questions I had and she was very patient with me. The exams do take a bit of effort to work through but the professors make it worth it.
Dr. Beal is an amazing professor and you can tell she is really passionate about the subject, but the bio department all uses the same exams, workshop quizzes, etc, so you are pretty much doing the same work regardless of professor. The class was difficult for me because I am not the strongest bio student, but an A is doable with hard work.
Her lectures are not helpful at all. I took her for 115 and that class was not as difficult as Bio 116. The lecture material does not help with exam questions. Many questions go beyond the scope of what we have learned. I'm not sure I will pass this semester. This class requires ALL of your attention. DO NOT TAKE IT IF YOU DONT HAVE TO.
Dr. Beal is fabulous about lecturing both biology 115 and 116. I took the course for a whole year to watch her videos from pandemic till now. The TA at workshop is also nice and warm to students who help you to understand thoroughly to the chapters. Alice which is the bird raised by Beal is also very adorable!
Great professor. Lectures are the most helpful for this class and fun to watch. Take notes; create & re-create organizers prior to exam and you'll do fine. Exams a bit difficult & make you think, but are pretty simple to figure out if you understand the material.
Very sweet woman, with detailed slides and slow spoken recorded lectures. Better to watch her than Stern if you are bad with bio. I had to repeat this class and she was amazing. Do not miss a lecture or you will have a lot more to memorize. 3 exams and workshop quizzes are key to passing. Drawing flow charts and writing lists help connect topics.
Dr. Beal is very sweet and explains the material clearly. Beal and Sterne are both great options. Just don't procrastinate as the material will build up super quickly. No homework, grades based on workshop participation/quizzes and exams.
Dr. Beal teaches college level bio as if it's a middle school level course. She gives great analogies/examples and you will not get bored while watching her lectures. You do have to take a lot of notes but it's manageable. She creates her own slides for lectures instead of following the textbook. Biology is hard tho, so good luck..
Professor Beal is the BEST. She incorporates a lot of humor into her lectures, and will easily help you whenever you need! She creates thorough study sessions that last several hours and will let you personally ask questions. You need to put in the effort to pass though, but the resources make it fair to do.
I fell in love with biology after watching Dr. Beal's lectures. She incorporates many pictures and stories that really make you memorize the content. She is also very passionate about what she teaches and that made me enjoy learning about it. I look forward to taking her in-person next semester.
She is a good professor but it is a hard class. Her lectures are much longer than Cardinale's in time and she sometimes messes up on little things but it isn't bad at all. She is very good with taking questions and is very enthusiastic with the material.
There is A LOT of material in gen bio, and I found Dr. Beal to be very good at explaining it. She has 2x a week "review sessions" that really help if you're struggling with the material. Her online lectures are really long, but that's just bio in general :/. She is very thorough with explanations and wants to help, and she gives alot of examples.
Beal is so sweet. She makes sure to explain topics thoroughly for her students and although her videos can be excessively long, you know she is doing it in the interest of her students. Overall, this class is content heavy, but simple. Go to lecture/recitation and do your bios forms for an easy A.
This Professor was amazing while online learning. Although I wouldnt attend her weekly review sessions, the online lecture were very detailed. It is a lot of material but definitely manageable. The only thing that makes this class annoying were the weekly practice questions, but not too bad if you review the material before hand.
Although I had Beal, I mainly watched Stern-Cardinale lectures since I was used to him as a person/professor - he's a g!!! But although I barely interacted w/Beal, both her and Stern-Cardinale are great and really supportive. Really lecture heavy, but if you can handle that + take notes/review, Bio is an easy course.
She is an amazing professor. She made learning fun and I felt like I really learned a lot from this class. The tests are not hard if you study, and going to workshop helps a lot. Definitely take Dr. Beal, she is awesome!
the sweetest professor. her lectures were a bit on the longer side, but she provided a lot of details that helped me really understand the concepts. Her lecture notes are a little unreliable to work with by themselves so make sure to really pay attention to her explanations.
If you turn everything she says into flash cards you will def get in A the A is not easy but completely doable if you study the right way I have quizlets for everyone one of the workshops at @bella.poncee
GOAT!
I absolutely love Dr. Beal!!!! She is such an amazing professor who is passionate about the subject and makes it easy for students to understand. Her lectures can be very long and descriptive, but I found it helpful bc it made me understand the topics more clearly. Definitely take Dr. Beal if you can!!!
Dr. Beal's teaching style was a lot different from my high school teachers. Her lectures were long but interesting, she brought a lot of humor to them. Get ready to do A LOT of notes and learn how to study effectively.
Dr. Beal is an amazing professor! She loves her job and really cares about helping us to learn and understand biology. Her lectures are interesting, she's funny, and she does a great job of conveying the material clearly and in detail. I definitely recommend Dr. Beal, and I'm taking GB 116 with her next semester!
Beal is an amazing professor that makes lectures super fun and easy. Super easy class to get an A as long as you do the BIOs form and organizers. Lectures are not mandatory but extremely recommended because she taught them in a fun way that you can remember easily.
Amazing professor. Lectures are very helpful if you go to them. She tries to help every student and wouldn't mind going back and forth while doing her slides. Definitely very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject she teaches and the amount of detail in her notes helps prep for competitive entrance exams. Definitely taking her for GB 116.
Both her and stern are really good. They host reviews before the midterms WATCH BOTH!! Honestly the class isn't bad at all make sure you understand a bit of all topics instead of everything of a few. Weekly quizzes count A LOT for your grade so don't miss any and take screenshots to practice cuz they don't repost ever. Final is chill just tiring.
Very kind and will try to help you!
Very good understanding of Biology. Dr. Beal is very fun and kind and a very light and warm person. Class consisted of mostly lectures. She made it clear what you need to know and had plenty of opportunities for you to contact her.
One of my favorite profs hands down. She's very sweet and bubbly. Her lectures were always very fun to go to. She makes them interactive and makes it very clear whats important for the exams. Very happy to answer questions/clarify things.
She is lively and highlights what will be on exams. Good teacher just a hard class in general
Dr. Beal is the best professor I have gotten the chance to take a course with. Gen Bio 115 is not an easy course. Dr. Beal will tell you during the first lecture that it is by no means an introductory course. She provides the learning outcomes you need before the exams and all information on the exams are derived from lecture. Take her!
Both bio profs are great. Beal is passionate about bio and really takes the time to help you. She tries to make lecture interactive as well. Attend review sessions and office hours + exam review sessions!! Have to put in the work to get an A but the profs help.
Dr. Beal is an AMAZING professor. She really cares if you do well and understand the material. She is the sweetest lady. Gen bio itself is a difficult course(you need to put in effort to succeed)and she really helps you understand it. Went to some Stern lectures and he doesn't explain things as well and in-depth as she does. 10/10 recommend her
Very caring professor. I enjoyed having her and I am going to miss her. She is always willing to help and very passionate about teaching. She makes lectures interesting! I recommend taking her.
No words can express how much this lady changed my life and made me truly love biology. Not only is she such a kind and sweet person, but she takes complex topics and breaks them down so that they're easier to understand. I also loved the way the class was set up, it made it easy for u to pass. Beal and Stern are gems that Rutgers doesn't deserve.
VERY enthusiastic to teach! The only thing is that she goes on tangents and gets behind Cardinale. She truly cares and orchestrated practice groups for bio. I took both practice groups and its basically workshop. (take it tho for the science gpa boost). I studied every week so the content was very manageable and hardly had to study for exams.
Dr. Beal is very sweet. If you don't go to lecture, know that a lot of the material talked about is not on the slideshow, or it is on the slideshow out of context. It's better to go to lecture. Very clear outline of material. Rutgers Biology should be grateful to have Beal and Stern-Cardinale.
Professor Beal is such a sweetheart and has very interactive lectures. 115 and 116 are both very content heavy and can be difficult if you don't practice the material outside of class. Stern-Cardinale is a little more time proficient in terms of finishing slideshows within the lecture but overall both professors are amazing.
she cares a lot for her students and is incredibly enthusiastic about what she teaches. slides are not too wordy and she is good with emphasizing what you should know. she is very knowledgeable and her enthusiasm definitely made me more inclined to learn lol. she doesn't post her slides online though so you shld go to lecture
she's a literal cutie. she's super enthusiastic about what she teaches and she explains the material in a way that's fairly simple to understand.
Professor Beal is literally the best, I heard that Cardinale is also very good, but I personally love beal and Im going to take her bio 116 also. I love how enthusiastic she is about everything and you'll do good in the class as long as you go to lecture and workshop and do the organizers.
I really liked Beal as a lecturer. Her slides were well-organized and she made most of the topics interesting. She's very enthusiastic and always excited to teach. Although, this class is REALLY HARD. BRUTAL. Class averages on exams BARELY EXCEED 70. Ph.D. level exams. Beal said herself, most students don't get As. Great professor, terrible dept.
Great professor, definitely makes course material easy.
Lectures were on point and she explained everything. Make sure to complete workshop quizzes because they count towards your grade. Workshop experience really depends on the TA.
Take beal over stern if u can. More organized slides, betters diagrams (draws them herself sometimes to show students they don't have to be artistic to draw their own), examples, ways to remember info. Very good at explaining complex things. Very enthusiastic about teaching and it makes u want to pay attention to her. Had both professors.
I would recommend Dr. Beal to anyone. Extremely caring, knowledgable, and did an excellent job explaining content in lectures. Always extremely passionate! Compared to other general courses (i.e chemistry), biology is ran MUCH better. Weekly workshops are also usually engaging! Her and Dr. Stern Cardinale are equally amazing - I've had them both!
Had Beal for both 115 and 116. It's a tough class with a lot of stuff to memorize and learn. Lectures are not mandatory, but you should attend or else you'll fall behind. She's a happy and enthusiastic but very knowledgeable lecturer. Before every exam, she does a Zoom review of all the topics that the exam will cover; those are very helpful.
One of the best professors for Gen Bio. She holds a lot of office hours and explains concepts if you are confused. Rutgers controls Gen Bio's course rules so she cannot do anything about grades as she can only lecture, but very kind nonetheless. Her notes are organized but Rutgers doesn't allow posting notes so make sure to take photos in lecture.
Professor Beal is a fantastic lecturer who makes even complex biology topics engaging. Her organized slides, visuals, and enthusiastic teaching style really help solidify the material. While the class can be challenging, using resources like Unstuck AI alongside attending lectures and workshops can go a long way.
Genuinely my favorite professor. She made lectures enjoyable and made the content seem interesting. Also interacted with students and answered any questions you had during lecture or after. She's the reason I performed so well as her slides were very clear and let us know the structure of the exams.
Such a fun professor. She makes lectures fun to listen to and she keeps them simple and concise. Her reviews are amazing and are a reason why I passed and also Stern Cardinals reviews as well!! Beal is such a sweet person and just brings joy to every lecture!
Love Dr. Beal! She's very engaging in her lectures and helps her students really understand new material. Would 100% recommend her classes.
Beal was a great professor who showed that she genuinely loves her job and has so much interest in what she's teaching. I will say, she allows students to go on tangents during lecture which can lead to falling behind on lectures, however, highly recommend her because she tries.
She's so energetic and funny in all her lectures! I find it hard to note take and listen, so I'm very appreciative that she is so patient with us! Her lecture reviews really do help, however, she does tend to go over stuff that you may not really need for the exam. Still though, she's super helpful and also very understanding! One of the best! :)
although bio is hard and very test heavy, Dr. Beal makes the lecture contagious and interesting, i love her passion for the subject. lecture slides are not posted so make sure to take pictures. although i love her lectures, i would recommend Stern for exam reviews. use organizers/outcomes to study and there are curves for each exam.
Beal is aggressively passionate about bio, which makes her lectures easy to attend--important, due to the amount of info you will need to know. Exams are generously curved and while there is lots of material, she makes the learning process entertaining. Come into her office hours with questions, and attend either hers or Stern's reviews for easy As
Despite the large class size, Dr. Beal ensures she addresses everybody's questions and concerns. Even though lecture content is often boring, her passion for biology is contagious. Since exams are prescaled generously, this course is an easy A as long as you stay on track with notes and attend Zoom reviews.
Best professor ive had. She explains ind depth about the topics we need to know and makes a lot of funny jokes. She also says mnemonics to help us remember certain things. Awesome professor!
Dr. Beal is an outstanding professor who shows how much she loves what she does every lecture. The coursework itself is not difficult and if you took AP Bio in high school, this class is light work. Just make sure to keep up with the lectures and go to recitation otherwise you probably won't pass. Everything you need to do well is in lecture.
Took her for Gen Bio 1. She was nice and super chill. She didn't post her slides on Canvas, so I ended up going to most of the lectures to take notes. It could be a bit hard to hear if you are all the way in the back, but she was clear and able to project concepts in ways we understood. Best bio prof imo.
I did most of my learning on my own. She went on rants and I barely knew what she was talking about. It was very confusing especially if you do not have a strong biology foundation.
Professor Beal is an alright lecturer for bio who tends to go on minor tangents. She also does not post any slides which kind of sucks if you want to review. Bio115 is easy, but Professor Beal tends to over-complicate things. If you enjoy biology, she's a great professor. If you are taking the class for core reqs, you may find her boring.
Take Stern instead if you can. She is less organized and presents unnecessary information. Seems like some of the important information gets left out for the useless stuff.
BIO115 can be a really difficult class, but Beal makes it so much easier to learn! I've heard from other people that Stern is more concise, but I was able to learn from Beal well. Very enthusiastic with the material and well organized. She doesn't post lecture notes, but if you pay attention, it's not bad.
prof. beal is great and she really wants you to succeed. the class itself is hard and takes a lot of effort as it's very content heavy. but if you have to take it i would 100% recommend taking it with her.
There is so much information covered. Some people cry beacuse of how fast she goes through the assignment but as long as you study for recitations and go back once in a while to review past material you should be fine. Study enough that you don't fall behind because each exam matters.
she's such a cutie
Love Beal so much I've taken her for bio 1+2. Take her if u rly want to learn and understand bio. The class itself is hard so u have to put in work but an A is achievable. Do the outcomes!!!! I studied and practiced just that before each exam and got 90+ on all exams.
She is a great overall lecturer, Dr. Stern takes the cake for the reviews but she kept me intrigued during lectures and class. Definitely recommend her as a bio lecturer
Professor Beal tends to get off topic and teaches more material than what will show up on the exam. If you have a vested interest in biology, then you may find her lectures enjoyable. Otherwise, go to Stern Cardinale. The class itself is very easy but very handholdy and annoying. Very annoying. Try to AP out if possible.
Beal is a great professor if you really want to understand the material and are learning it for the first time. During Bio 1, I found her lectures long because I knew the material, but during Bio 2, when learning, she makes a lot of good connections.
She is a great lecturer!!! Even though the content can be a lot, she explains it in an easy manner and makes it more engaging. Her lectures will help you feel very prepared for the exams. Even though the BiOs were kind of unnecessary, the class was still easy and straightforward.
A solid professor, she genuinely cares about her students and is invaluable during office hours. Be sure to attend every lecture, as the Bio department doesn't post its lecture notes. I took her for both Bio 115 and 116. Got A's in both courses. The exam is composed of 70 MCQs, and 10 of them are dropped.
I love beal, she was the absolute greatest. and she was so passionate about what she taught. I took bio my first year of college and now in my third year I look back just so grateful for the experience I had in her class. The bio department was the only one that felt like it wasn't working against its students.
