Like him, but he believes must be hard to teach well. Still, you learn, but it is not fun, and is less interesting than it could be. Thinks if you question something he says that you are questioning him personally. Tries very hard to be fair. Cares, alot.
makes tests damn near impossible with his stupid essay questions. He's also an **** when it comes to attendance. 5% for every day u miss over 2 classes.

Thinks he's smarter than everyone in the class. Yet, he is very helpful when you ask for it.

A bit condescending...but that is just his "modality, etc..., can u see this with your mind's eye?" As a black student, having a black professor to look up to is encouraging-I feel like I could go to Baker like a father-and that's what make
Professor Baker's class is Faaaaaaantastic! it is no cake walk though, but you will learn alot of information. He does make you 'earn' your grade and is helpful to see that you succeed. He is full of energy and a great professsor.
Great man! I graduated a year ago from DCCC- still remember vividly his teachings.
A FAAAAAANNNtastic addition to this institution of higher learning. If you want to enjoy your class as well as learn things this is the teacher to take. You do have to work to get your grade but he makes it all do-able. This guy knows his stuff ect....
Worthless. Tests had NOTHING to do with material learned. You need to know how to use an index and table of contents to Ace his exams. Penalizes students for proving him wrong. Nasty man.
He's a great teacher who actually knows what he's talking about, instead of reading off a power point slide. He's very intelligent which makes you step up as a student to do well.
Syllabus illegible. Degraded me when I asked questions. Spelling atrocious. Exams only marginally based on material studied. Misgraded my exams & papers, taking off points for info that was correct. Very very frustrating. RETIRE!
GET OVER YOUR SELF. POMPOUS AND ARROGANT. POOR TEACHER THAT ACTUALLY DEMEANS STUDENTS. JUST BECUASE U CANT MOTIVATE YOUR STUDENTS MEANS THAT U CAN BE MEAN TO THEM...

He is a great teacher you have to work for your grade but if you show him that you are actually doing the work and wanting to learn he will help you. But if you show that you are not working he will look apst you if you are not as should any teacher!
This teacher is easy and fun
Excellent professor. Enjoys what he does and he knows exactly what hes talking about...check him out! He just wants to know that you know what hes teaching. Essays on quizes are easy if you study.
Syllabus, tests, and instructions were unclear; grammatical errors throughout materials, thereby adding to confusion; encouraged redundancy in writing assignments; seemed to favor attempts at wit over basic clarity and helpfulness.
Horrible, proud to be, pompouse schmuck, not to mention terrible teacher. Bad grammar and spelling and refers to himself in the third person and uses suchs words as "professes" and "recitate" (should be recite you dumbass. Not recommen

He is an excellent teacher. My major was business and when I took his class I changed my major to sociology. Take this teacher.
JERK! directions say 1 thing and he expects another. He thinks hes god & his speach patterns make u want to kill urself by the end of the semester (Over uses the words modality and profess) This guy thinks he teaches at an Ivy League not DCCC. Conceited, pompous, man who doesnt kno what hes doing.
i hate this man. he is terrible, unclear and repeative. etc.... AHHHH if i heard that one more time i would have killed myself. Can you see that in your mind's eye? NOT NOT NOT RECCOMMENDED
good teacher.. gives good notes.. if you want an A you will have to earn it, but its possible if you work hard.. nice guy.. highly recommended but be prepared to work
took tv class - didn't meet him - easy class - easy A - very helpful, wanted to see his students succeed. take TV class!!!
If you are ready to work hard then take him. Nice guy who loves what he does. Just make sure you know your stuff!!
He is very helpful, always willing to help, his door is never closed, you must be prepared to work, like everything you get what you put in it. very passionate about life and his job, A professor you can depend on for a wealth of knowledge. Excellent professor.
He was a great professor. He gave great examples, and really wanted you to enjoy sociology. It's not a hard class but you do have to work hard to do well. All said and done I was glad to take this class and would recommend it to anyone.

Horrible, pompous, repetative moron. Drop him, he's a waste of life.

Awesome teacher. He was hard but he kept you on your toes!!! He made sure you did your reading at night cuz he was quizzing every day for test points and you had to do your reading cuz you looked really dumb in class if you got an answer wrong.
Very enthusiastic - Show up regularly (85% of the time) and take notes, you will do well. Nuff said.
Great/enthusiastic teacher. Better take good notes, don't miss class and study but he's an excellent teacher. Take good notes and you'll do great. He is an awesome guy who likes to shape young minds
His class is very hard. He's nice teacher you will laugh in his classes but you gotta EARN your grade. EAARN! <cough><cough> EARN!!! <cough><cough> EAAARRNN!!!! got it?
He was one of the best professors I've encounter to date. What you learn in his class will change you perception of the world and possible even cause you to change you major. I DID. I recommend you be prepared to really learn if you are going to take his class.
One of the most engaging, inspirational profs I've even had. He gives you the notion that Delco is a great place to better yourself. Made me believe in myself again! Leaving his class is like the end of your favorite show - you just wanna stay and hear more.
outstanding! the most VALUABLE course you can take, go to class, open your eyes and ears, and speak up.
Took the online class. Nice guy, obviously bright, and I learned from his online lectures and the reading, but a) his tests don't test knowledge of the subject, but random details that are trivial. b) his typos, misspellings, grammatical errors throughout his materials are very VERY distracting.
information during lectures was helpful test didnt relate well to the book and the lectures.
This guy is HORRIBLE. TOok him online, the only thing that counts for a grade are tests, and they are so hard and detailed it's ridiculous. I had a 4.0 GPA til this guy gave me a C. He wrote the textbook, that says enough right there! IMPOSSIBLE!
I took marriage and family online and it was relatively easy as long as you did the work. All the tests and quizzes were online and timed. The questions on the tests were right from the book and so you needed to have it right in front of you. Make sure you print out all the power point presentations and watch all his video lectures.
Awesome teacher...can be a little arrogant at times...but hey why shouldnt he be?
Someone needs to put this guy in his place! Demeans students, speaks too fast, repetitive, arrogant, annoying, etc.... His directions are never clear! Not everyone is studying to be a sociologiost!!!! Can u see that in your minds eye? (COUGH)YES????
Treats his students like children. Gives definitions and expects you to spit them back verbatim. Interesting stories and examples, but overuse of words like: modality, profess, precipitate, and etc dot dot dot dot. Don't miss a pop quiz because his make up tests are impossible - make-ups are essays.
Good Professor,he really makes sure you understand the concepts. There are pop quizzes, but he warns you about them. There is also a group project to do but its not that difficult and you are graded individually so do your work and you'll be fine. He is a really good professor that helps you EARN your grade.
I actually took his class a couple of years ago. I took Social Problems and had absolutely no problems with him. He is a great asset to the Soc department and really enjoys his work. He was very down to earth and approachable. He also made an effort to learn the names of everyone in the class. His classes fill very quickly.
AWESOME TEACHER ! very amusing and keeps you intrested . I still remeber alot of what he taught me. I'm planning on taking him again. FUN CLASSS i highly recomment him
A nice teacher but I would not recommend taking his online class. It is much harder than in-class. You will need to use the textbook alot.
He's such a good teacher and a really nice guy. He makes every topic interesting. His class isn't an "easy A" but you'll definitely learn a lot. I always enjoyed going to his class.
This teacher has a number of minor exccentricities that, over the three-hour period of a summer class, will quickly erode nerves and sanity. He projects a constant pretense of scientific objectivity to defend his own biased, narrow, and subjective teachings. He does not badger students when they are presenting, he wolverines them.
Very unhelpful when you ask him questions. Teaches to you as if you have a masters in sociology already. Rude to certain students. Hard to understand. Would not recommend taking any class from him, ever. Totally wish I would have dropped out.
i am taking his class soc110 in the spring can someone please give me the 411 on him
Worst class EVER! He got on my nerves about almost everything he said. Talked way too fast. Only is fair to certain students with giving away quiz points and also with how he treats them. I hated this clsss since day one and wished that I would have dropped it.
I took his social problems course online and found it to be quite intersting at first but as time progressed the issues were just too in-depth and really not interesting to me anymore. however I think he is very knowledgable in this subject but not exciting enough for me. The textbook is the heart of the class so if you read that you'll be fine.
i'm takin his class now. i think he cool, it's just that he talks to fast. but he keeps u laughin and he wants u to learn. he also gives quiz points. and there is a group project. do your work and you'll be ok
He is an awesome teacher, and he really wants you to learn to see the big picture; afterall, that what sociology is about, looking at this as a whole and then differentiating between the many entities w/in a bureaucracy. As he would say,"He does not give grades, but you will earn your grade in his class." He keeps you alert, informed, and you will
i am taking this class. he wants u to do a research group project. but u can't work together nor can u share ifo. and there isn't any example of how it should be done so you're own your own. and he makes u not wantt to ask him for help. i wish i would've picked another teacher. i mean don't get me wrong he's a nice guy it's just his way of teaching
Annoying. Just outright annoying, if you like the same bull day in and day out, well this is your class. Like to hear himself talk and will never, ever outright answer a question. Very pretentious.
Extremely good at teaching you information, but often difficult to comprehend the format for assignments.
I LOVE BAKER...sike he was a cool teachers talk with big words and very fast but he was cool def had to work hard in his class and not an easy A but u learn alot his quiz were ridiculously hard
Arrogant, reptetitive, not helpful, doesn't like to be challenged, no clarity in his teachings (all in all i've heard of teachers out to certain students but this guy is truley out to hold students back and not help them to succeed)DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!
Baker is what you expect when signing up for college courses. He is more of a lecture teacher but if you are willing to put in the work to learn, you will enjoy his class and you will leave knowing alot more information than you had before you took his class. Forces you to learn; if you dont plan on working in his class, he will tear you a part.
Loves to hear himself talk, gives pop quizzes, randomly call on anyone without them raising their hand. Hard grader!!! Not a Professor for a Working Adult!
Took his class online during Summer 2. It was a lot of reading and his tests definitely made you think. Don't think you can't be familiar with the material since it's online and can use text for tests. All in all it was a good class and would take a class with him again.
Different method of teaching, may not be tangible for everyone, but if it works for you, you will do excellent. Overall amazing teacher and a good person, yes he loves to hear himself talk, but he adds humor to the class which really helps. Only thing I have "against" him is the presentation assignment was not fully explained; but its easy.
He is a very good prof. He teaches in the Socratic method so if you know this doesnt work with you then don't take his class. but for me it helped me learn. It was my 3rd time taking sociology and it came very easy when i had him. I highly recommend his class as he also gives valuable life lessons.
really good professor at how he makes you memorize the material. you dont use the textbook except for the project we had and to study for the finals. tests and quizzes are usually a little tough, but if you attend class and do well on the project, you'll easily pass
I took Professor Baker's online class and am very disappointed. He speaks to fast, is repetitive, and does not put enough time into his internet course. His material is old and his study guides are useless. You have to read the textbook word for word to get A's on his exams.
He loves to hear himself talk! He's very clear and comprehensible. He repeats everything all the time! "Questions, Issues, concerns, problems, things you want to discuss, things you want me to be aware of".. those are his facvorite words. Anyhow, be prepared always! He calls on you. No need to raise your hand. Very tough! Goodluck!
I liked and hated his class at the same time. I liked his teaching method but also didn't. I found him to be overbearing at times and almost insulting at the way he talks down to people. with that said, he makes the class out to be harder than it is. Be on time; dont chew gum or roast beef, pay attention and he is fair. If you fail, it's your faul
He's annoying, but a great teacher. He's fair and his tests aren't too hard if you read the text and go to class. He's very strict though! There's always a sign in sheet and he speaks with authority and sometimes seems cocky.
would not recommend taking his online class.
Professor Baker is an intelligent man. Most people say his classes are hard, but they're really not. He makes you remember the material by repeating himself every day. If you go to class every day and pay attention there's no way you can fail the class. People who don't like his class are people who don't feel the need to EARN their grades.
If you think this is an easy A, you are sadly mistaken!! This online course was hard for me and I normally get A's and B's in the classroom!! It is open book, of course, but the hardest open book, ever!!! He is very demanding, but thorough. Stay on top of his lectures and the reading material...you'll need it, good luck :-)
Baker is somewhat pompus and tends to treat his students as little children. I really did not like his online class. His tests are open book and he seems to focus on statistics rather than concepts when developing his tests.
He is really nice but I do not recommend this class to anyone, I read & studied my but off the first two tests and I failed them both and then I studied my midterm review which we were handed to on a Friday & the midterm was Monday. He needs to interact more with the students, maybe a powerpoint for his lectures because its not as easy as it sounds
Baker is a professor that makes it pretty hard to fail his class if you just show up. If you show up and retain the material you will be fine. Questions, issues, concerns, problems, things you want to discuss, things you want me to be aware of?
Baker is a very tough teacher however it is manageable. He wants his students to master the information not just get by with an easy A. If you study, keep up with the readings, and participate in class you can get an A. Baker as a professor is recommended for those who have a large interest in the field of Sociology. Not for the faint of heart.
He is all about himself. He does not care if you dont do it his way then you're wrong. He is not interesting half my class failed and that didnt seem the phase him. He told us the week after drops that they were the Friday before. No one really understood his teaching.
This guy repeats the terminology used on tests at least 20 times each in class(no lie.) Not only that but he is funny. Also, he makes the surprisingly useful material interesting. Chuck Baker was the best professor I had at DCCC.
do not take this class at all. he is not about wanting is students to succeed he is all about his not funny annoying self.
SOC100. These comments are a bit harsh, hes over opinionated and a bit overwhelming. But if you show up and don't drop the class, chances are he will pass you
He is unclear with what he wants us to learn from the books and when he did state what he wanted us to study we could not find it in the text.
He was alright for a teacher. He told me my grade was a B. He talks alot though.
He uses old school techniques that made me wanted to prepare for his class. One of my best teachers at DCCC.
He's a great teacher posts videos as well as power points. The only thing I didn't like for this online course was that you cannot see your grades and he isn't specific so you can track how you're doing.
hard but fair
I took this class online and it was to stinking easy... 2 quizes, 1 midterm 1 final all straight out the book (i used the glossery never read the chpters got a B on every test).. not a lot of work to turn in 1 fill in the blank assignment due every week.
took online class, was fairly easy, but the videos very boring, glad i didnt take the regular class (Dogged that boring bullet!!!).He also seems very pompus, Overall course was easy. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING IT IN CLASS!!!
Professor Baker is Horrible! I would not reccomend his class to anyone, unless you like being set up for failure. Baker does not care about the students. Everything in his class is pretty much his way or the highway! Baker craims too much work in and does not care if it is unrealistic.
Professor Baker is a great teacher. As long as you put in the work he asks you to, you will never receive a bad grade. He gives students all they need to succeed, but does not give hand outs like most students are accustomed to. If you fail, its on you.
Took his class online in summer II 2011. I would not recommend him for an online course. All test are open book but the answers were nowhere to be found. The class consists of quizzes, forums, a midterm & a final exam. I got a “C” in his class which I was very unhappy with and I’m sure with the right professor an “A” would be very possible.
The class is "okay" but the professor is HORRIBLE. Would not recommend Dr. Baker to anyone.
good teacher very understanding but needs to show up and always be ready he will call on in class and u NEED to know the answer but he is always willing to work with you if your failing plus u get quiz points for tutoring if you go
I took online and his syllabus was spot on, so you are aware of whats expected of you. Probably wouldn't take classroom course since his personal video lectures was not my favorite part of the course.
Baker is awesome but if you want to be lazy and just expect an A this is not the class for you. He definitely makes you work for it, but that's what college is about.
I took Professor Bakers class for SOC 110. He is a very fair and realistic professor. He runs his classroom in an orderly way. Theres no raising of hands he calls on whoever for the answer and if you are keeping up with the work the questions are on spot. Even missed a test and he worked with me to make it up due to a documented illness.
You really have to work for this grade. He is very engaging with the class. He calls on random people at random times to answer questions but he is really cool. Good Luck!
Good course, intellectually challenging. Get ready to work hard. If you work hard, it will pay off. Not an easy class, but he is a good professor. Overall I learned a lot, and I am happy to have taken his course. He wants his students to break their comfort zone. At first, his approach was slightly overwhelming, but you get used to it.
Baker is the best professor I've ever had. As people have said, he calls on people randomly(minimal hand raising) which forces you to read the material and work for your grade. Because if not, you know theres a chance you will be called on and not know the answer. Would ABSOLUTELY take Baker again.
Don't take his online course. He is not willing to clarify when asked to about the simplest thing. He just tells you to refer silibus.very frustrating. I took his intro to sociology course and he really made it harder than it should have been. This is dccc, not Harvard. Take heed fellow classmates..do yourself a favor and don't take him.
This class was harder then expected. It is intro, should be fun. The tests and quizzes had no info from online discussion forums or I could not find info in book for tests (open book). He has an ego due to making sure you know he wrote the book and is a Dr. That's great but teach the info a little bit more.
This guy is really tough, he has high expectations and he will call you out if you're slacking. You have to work hard for your grade. He can be condescending at ties and make you feel dumb. All in all though, he keeps your attention at all times, & he is a great teacher who knows his craft well. I struggled in his class, but I remember the material
Very difficult online class. I read the entire book and still had difficulty completing exams. DONT take if you are a bad test taker!!NOO extra credit.
I took Baker's accelerated online Sociology course. The class was essentially reading his entire textbook in the 7 week course. That being said, if you do the required reading, it's a class you should be able to ace. I had very limited interaction with the professor, but he seemed nice in the few emails we exchanged.
Baker can come off as aggressive initially due to his style of teaching. He warns all his students that he is going to give them time to get adjusted, but after this point its go time. The class was very difficult. I studied very hard a received a B. Has a very smart mouth and likes to call on people at random. One thing, I sure know the material.
Seems to enjoy letting you know he is the in charge . Likes to debate and go back and forth w students Takes points off for reasons as he deems necessary AUTOMATIC 8 pnts off for late per day unless u have an excuse like a relative died but u must let him know in advance that your relatie died& bring in an obituary lol yes he makes it that serious
Currently taking his course (sociology 110) Professor Baker is seriously easy if you study! Take notes during his lectures. If you don't understand what he's talking about, you don't even have to ask him. He reads your face expressions and tries to clarify more. Scored a 95 on his midterm that's how easy he is, next up is the final! Just study!!!!!
Read the reviews before meeting Baker and was terrified... Got to class expecting the worst and Baker was actually very funny and down to Earth, yet very serious about teaching all at the same time. Made it very clear we will EARN the grade we get.. only in week 2 now, hopefully will successfully pass this class
He is not willing to help, he thinks we have to think the same way as he does. If your response is different of what he wants you to say, you are WRONG! Folks, do not ever take class with him.
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had. He is complicated and completely egotistical. The subject matter is not challenging. But trying to figure out which hoops he wants you to jump through is a real trial. He does not properly utilize the colleges web platform. This is not real sociology. It's sociology according to Chuck Baker.
Currently in his class and I dislike it so much. He is very self centered & if your opinion is different than his you are wrong. Claims everyone must stand up for themselves & be their own person, but when you try to in class it's a problem. Like said by others he is not willing to help even when asked. I DO NOT recommend his class stay away guys.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. He is teaching things that are not even required for us to learn. I have went to several tutors to get help on assignments and to review content went over in class and EVERY single last tutor has told me to go to the dean about this instructor due to him teaching things not required for this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This teacher is very VERY arrogant. It seems as though he finds joy in failing students. He makes comments such as " IF anyone passes this class..", like who in the world would say that to their class ? He takes pride in the fact that he has few students pass his class which disgusts me.
It seems as though professor baker is out to make you fail. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM! It is a very difficultunfair course that includes a lot of his own personal beliefs. I highly DO NOT recommend.
Not helpful at all and purposely makes testsquizzes hard
Horrible professor. Please do not take his class if you want to pass. I turned in all of my work and still received an F. also he never responds to my emails. Chuck must love having his students fail
Dr. Baker is clear that he is there to teach and if we(the students) are there to learn, we will pass with a good grade. He keeps everyone engaged during lectures. He does not let class out before the allotted time and although I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong on my papers he is a fair grader and knows the subjects he is teaching.
The worst teacher I've had at this school so far. He hardly gives any tests. His words all of the tests very weird and his class forums are actually just homework assignments. His class is based mostly off of his own personal opinions and you need to buy the textbook with his notes written in it already or you won't pass (extra $20 for this book)
Baker doesn't lecture
In this college course, you're a student, not a nobody. Terrible, right? Listen, participation earns you quiz points-good, eh? But that means you have to read, too. He won't embarrass you if you get an answer wrong-you just don't get a point. To be fair, accepting the responsibilities as a student, starts with being informed. Hope this helps.
Material on the tests do not reflect what you read in the text book. The answers are what he believes. Asked for help and he flat out said NO! Does not provide study guides.
Dr. Baker, in my personal opinion is the kind of teacher every school needs. I enjoyed his class, his lectures did one of two things, mad you think or laugh. Yes you will earn the grade you deserve. Just remember what you as a student put into your education is what you get out of it.
This class is awesome if you're in school to learn. Attendance is MANDATORY, you don't want to miss class. You need to read that textbook. He will call on students at random. But over all, Baker knows his stuff. Just be ready to WORK. Pop-quizzes at random, know your textbook and STUDY. Oh god, STUDY. Note cards will be your friend in this class.
He was hardly there for me when I needed specific questions answered. Always answered vaguely without any effort to reach out to me.
Hands down great professor .. Read other comments here I'm pretty sure these kids just don't like to put work in. He knows if you put in work or not ... Get ready for the real world children lol.
I did not enjoy this professor teaching methods at all. I passed the class, however it was not because of the feedback of Dr. Baker. He may know the material, however the way he has chosen to present is weak. I was expecting the class to provide great insight. The material in the text was not covered to utilize critical thinking.
I believe he wrote the text book actually but he's the only professor I know that uploads lecture videos which I thought was great. He also gave short weekly quizzes that reflected the material . There's a lot of material to learn just read and make sure you have understanding , he's good responding. It's all about your effort
I had him for an online sociology class, and it was horrible. He didn't use canvas correctly, as well as not providing proper "format" for the assignments. I hardly visit his "work" because there is nothing to read, you can find most answers online, so no need for the book. The most difficult thing to accept is that there are only forum quizzes for the online class, and that is pretty much our grade beside the major chapter quizzes.
THis teacher does not project himself well. He did not make me feel comfortable to ask for assistance. When asking him to clarify anything he did a good job of making you feel as if your question was dumb. He has very little personality. I would not recommend him if you value communication
Most difficult class that I've had so far in the entirety of my college life, but he gives you the grade that you deserve so it was worth it. Definitely not an easy A class. You actually have to work for your grade. And if you'll be taking his class, please take it seriously because you probably won't get the grade you want if you just mess around.
Dr. Baker is an amazing professor, the grade you get in this class is the grade you EARN. You have to work hard for a passing grade. Class revolves around a research paper that you work towards all semester long and a couple quizzes. He might seem intimidating but he's easy to talk to. REACH OUT TO HIM if you have questions. Take this class serious
This class was way to much. Like someone previously stated he DOES NOT use canvas correctly. He does not post the grades for your weekly forums, you just have to take his "nice job on this weeks forum quiz" or " You had 3 correct responses on this weeks forum" emails. The Mid-Term and Final are weighted at 35% each so you better pass. Very rude guy
I had Dr. baker for Experiences in Diversity, which was an accelerated summer class. We should all be paying for professors like Dr. Baker, he is influential and a very good teacher. I've had many teachers that weren't worth what we are paying to take their class. Do yourself a favor and take his class, he will challenge you for your own good!
Dr. Baker knows what he teaches. The textbook is edited by him. The gain of this class is that you learn not to discriminate. The textbook is piled up with facts and statistics, and the lecture is just the explanation of them. He encourages students' to express ideas on social world that happens currently. However, the time would be managed better.
I was taking it as an online class . He doesn't know how to use canvas clearly for the people who take online class , and he doesn't reply to your emails . He is so difficult and I dropped the class
Professor Baker is a very nice guy, but the way in which he structures things is slightly odd, grading is minimal, long lectures, does not post grades often or at all, heavy reading but does not tell you what to read or what to look for in regards to topic for next class, idk if I would take him again
Starting off with he wrote his own text book which is unclear, his PowerPoints look like a 7 year old made them. His lectures are pre-recorded and are probably the only thing that makes sense .. his tests barely cover what he talks about. Does not offer extra credit, takes him long to reply to messages, and gives unclear short answers! Good luck !
Dr. Baker is a good guy, HORRIBLE professor. His teaching style doesn't complement the way I learn. His lectures are unbearably boring and hard to sit through. He LOVES to call on everyone, even when you're not raising your hand. His test are kinda hard, kinda not. first test i got a 60%, second and third, i got a Bs. He doesn't put anything onlin
This guy is only interested in putting on a show, not teaching. He was very obnoxious, loud and condescending. Reading materials required was his book lol this guy has a personality disorder for sure. Told my sister who I had she said to runnnn!!! Stuck it out and can never get that time back.
Chuck Baker is not a good professor at all. You have to read his textbook, which makes no sense. It is horrible. His lectures are not good, you never know what to take notes on. Does not post anything on canvas or online, so it is hard to see what is your grade in the class. He is nice and all but just not a good professor.
Not a good prof. He doesn't use canvas right (never posts your grades), his notes/lectures had NOTHING to do with his exams. also he isn't a nice person. he was very confrontational and condescending when I had to ask him about a grade discrepancy. overall, a very bad experience. Pls help yourself and take someone else
best professor I've had yet. He is text heavy but he is very motivating and makes you understand you get the grade you earn. You must study and come to class. he mixes humor and education well. if you are not willing to work for your grade don't join his class. I highly recommend him.
You definitely deserve the grade you work for. Yes, he's intimidating but that is what helped me learn personally. I thought this was going to be my worst class bc of what was written on here but honestly, it wasn't difficult at all. He had you do the research paper in sections and then gave good feedback each time. great guy
A really good professor. At first he seems like a freak, but he knows what he's talking about. If you read the textbook you will be fine. He calls on every singe student which can be annoying but it helps you come prepared. He gives pop quizzes which aren't hard if you're reading. If you're prepared he rewards you with quiz points
Not a good professor at all. I really dont understand why he ask questions and over rules your answer by shutting you down completely . Does not give u no chance at all to speak as if everything goes his way and his way only. His textbook makes no sense, more of a money making thing than to help students .Really wish I had dropped the class.
Took online. His use of canvas is so confusing. There were multiple midterms up. When midterm time came around I asked him which one I should take... his response? "there is only one 'midterm' on canvas." It took SO much for me not to email him back the screenshot. Makes you buy HIS book which can ONLY be purchased at DCCC bookstore for $75
Very cocky and arrogant. He comes off very full of himself. Instead of giving a direct response, he gives you the runaround and talks down to you. I would not recommend him as a teacher to anyone!
It was a fair pass class if you read the chapters , I mean read and take notes theirs no way you cant pass no homework was giving i enjoyed his Sociology lectures .He did at times seem a bit cocky but it wasn't bad.
He thinks he's the greatest professor and knows everything! however when you try to ask him a question he cuts you off doesn't listen and definitely doesn't answer the question . . . instead tells a story completely unrelated to the topic of question! DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE ONLINE OR IN CLASS!!!
If you can get over his power trip, you might like him. He speaks so fast and unclear, he barely makes sense, every definition he gives is different from the last. ALL the students in my class are confused by what he expects from his paper. he never answers a question directly, I'm not sure he even knows the topics covered in class.
Ive been in school for 5 years now. I started at Delco, and continued at Temple U. Im writing this almost two years after I took Prof Bakers race and diversity class during summer 2017. Chuck Baker is to this day my top 2 professors Ive ever had. Do the work, ask questions and study terms. Theres is much to be learned from prof Baker.
Professor Baker was condescending when I asked him a simple question about where an assignment was on the Canvas page and didn't answer the question, so I couldn't find the homework and lost those points because he couldn't give me a simple answer. The tests have nothing to do with the material and are just generic questions from the internet.
Dr. Baker is a challenging professor and his class was one of the top challenges I have had in my life and I have been around for a good many years. That said he is a good teacher and I learned a lot. He does have a different manner about him and can be hard to take most of the time, but you will learn.
Took the online class! Highly recommend that if you are able to teach yourself things. Class itself was okay, weekly 5 question homework to make sure you did the reading. Test, Midterm, and Final were all OPEN NOTES/ TEXTBOOK. Some questions weren't in material provided but not enough to stop you from getting an A in the class.
Dr. Baker really makes you think about real problems in the real world. You learn so much about other perspectives and how to challenge mental shortcuts. He also encourages discussion about conflicting topics which most teachers stray away from. One my my favorite teachers i've ever had!
DO NOT TAKE! He never answered any emails . Homework assignments were not hard but you had to email them to him and I never got a response. When I emailed him with questions he would never answer. I have no idea how I ended with a D because he does not put grades on canvas at all besides midterm and final.
He is horrible at answering email and when he does it very vague. I asked for help with understanding assignments because they are not clearly accessible. He has too many instruction tabs where assignments should be. His grading is not clear either.
You do not have to buy the text book, it is not neccessary. Save your money. I didn't try as hard as I could have and thats the only reason I got a B and not an A, not because I didn't buy his book. He is not a bad professor, gives clear directions and deadlines. Overall, just an ok class and teacher.
Hes okay but oddly against marriage equality.
Avoid at all costs!! Makes it hard to get an A. When many students are struggling it is usually because of the professor. Harsh grades and vague feedback. He does not teach you how to write a research paper even though the main assignment is to write one, only teaches vocab, his lectures are all over the place, I've learned more from google.
Once you get past his brash nature, he is a good lecturer. If you put in the work you will do well in his course. A paper is required, but he breaks it into five parts and provides detailed feedback for your final submission. There are quizzes and tests, if you attend his class and read the book you'll do okay.
For whatever reason he does not post a grade and it can not be viewed until the class is over. He was unaware about the price of the textbook , which HE IS THE AUTHOR OF AND A PROFESSOR AT THE COLLEGE IT IS SOLD AT.
My problems in class, even though i received an a. Is that he doesnt update your grades AT ALL, throughout the entire class you have no idea where youre sitting. You have to purchase his textbook, which i thought that was a bit odd. The tests half of it doent match what youve been taught through lectures and the reading so its like a guessing game.
It's a shame that Mr. Baker was an inconsiderate and rude teacher because I actually found his class quite interesting. I took this class in the midst of the pandemic, so I never met this man in person, but through many email interactions he was so inconsiderate that I had to withdraw from the course.
This guy is inconsiderate. His emails are condescending and rude. Basic questions I had were never clearly responded to. Assignments were never clearly posted. He had me take two finals because he does not know how to use Canvas. He requires a textbook that he wrote, only sold at DCCC. Conflict of interest much? Worst class I ever had taken. Avoid
This was honestly one of the hardest classes I've had to take. It is not worth your time. He rarely gets back to your emails, and if he does they are very vague. His syllabus makes no sense. Not to mention you have to purchase a textbook that he wrote himself. Overall, not a fun experience and would never take this class again.
Never updates grade. Never responds at any questions or emails
I took this elective course for the credits only, and it ended up being more of a burden than anything. His course set up is confusing, does not post due dates, and does not post any of your grades! He also is not lenient. Very hard to understand and keep up with online & I have been an online student for years and have never had any issues
I was looking forward to taking this class and have always been interested in Sociology. I would not recommend Dr. Baker. Ineffective/unclear communications and does not utilize Canvas much (this was an online class), poorly edited self-published textbook, and very abrupt/condescending communication style.
Extremely disorganized and unprofessional. Very condescending and doesnt accept responsibility. Will not post your grades online. Canvas modules are disorganized. He belittles his students and mocks them. His answers are extremely vague. He does not care about helping his students. He is extremely inconsiderate. Would not recommend Dr. Baker
Awful awful awful! I emailed my work to him three times and instead of telling me how to correctly format he just said I wont be accepting this work until I had to figure it out myself. We are two months in and not one grade. His mini-quizzes are terribly put together and hard to understand. He only cares about Marvel. Avoid him
Terrible Professor. Very condescending! Refuses to uploads grades on Canvas. Extremely vague and offers no help. Worst Professor I have ever had. Made my last semester at DCCC a terrible experience. If you dont need his course as a graduation requirement I would not recommend taking his course.
Dr. Baker is a good professor and insightful guy, however his online class is extremely disorganized and stressful to try and follow. If you need a structured environment to learn, I wouldn't take this class. Also his powerpoints are awful.
Not only is Dr. Baker the worst college professor I've ever had, he is the worst teacher I've ever had in all my years of schooling. He is unorganized, he makes you buy the textbook that he wrote (which is full of grammatical errors), and his tests are full of topics NEVER discussed in class. Save yourself, take ANYTHING else.
Dr. Baker is a horrible teacher. I took his class this semester and we had two tests so far. I've gotten terrible grades because there are subjects on the test that we haven't even done in class! He makes you buy his own book which has several grammatical errors. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!
He is a completely new level of D head. He is argumentative and intimidating with his students, very condescending, rude, and obnoxious. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOUR DONT HAVE TO. horrible professor.
I had him for an online class that didn't have specific meeting times and it was moderately paced with only a few tests, which was frustrating because one C on a test could tank your grade. There are mini quizzes throughout the week and they're fine as long as you read the textbook. I was kinda peeved at spending 70 bucks on HIS own textbook..
This man is too much. Sometimes he was actually a great lecturer and seemed to really care, but then he would flip a switch and be highly unhelpful and argumentative towards anyone questioning his philosophies. His refusal to upload grades is also highly unprofessional in my opinion. Hard classes are fine but not when a teacher is inefficient.
Dr. Baker is certainly particular in how he wants his class run, and while it's unfortunate that you can't see your grades or assignments on Canvas, it wasn't that big of a deal to me. He will challenge you as a student and you'll finish the class feeling like you learned a lot. Put the work in and write the papers and you'll succeed.
I had high hopes for this class but Dr. Baker spoiled that for me. He talks down to students, is very impatient, and very difficult to communicate with. You write five papers for the class but he doesn't give you a clear feedback for the final paper. He made me really hate this class. Only B I got on my whole transcript. Worst last class to take
As a transfer student who has received high grades in SOC 260, I am entirely shocked and baffled by his horrible teaching style, refusal to use common technology that has been utilized and accepted by educators for years now such as Canvas, and his condescending and poor teaching manners as a ploy for students to perform poorly.
Worst professor/teacher I've ever had throughout my years of schooling. Provides little to no feedback on tests/papers. Doesn't post grades online, a bit odd...
I don't even have enough characters for this guy. 100 question quizzes, little to no feedback on grades and returned assignments, arrogant, unresponsive, unhelpful even when he says to ask for it. He's a decent guy but as a teacher he has made an otherwise fairly straight forward class one of the hardest and most stressful I have ever taken -10/10
Good text book. Syllabus clear. Lectures interesting. He covered many of the topics discussed in my psych class so it was a good foundation class. Grading problems cleared up quickly. Introduced me to societal theories, appreciated learning about.
Dr. Baker is a decent teacher. He will put you on the spot so always be prepared for class. He doesn't explain things very well he just expects you to know what you are doing. Having to buy his text book is kinda of annoying. If you dont comprehend things quickly i do not recommend.
Main focus is marvel content. Had to spend $73 on a loose leaf book he published himself which showed no relevance to the "mini quiz". Does not provide extra credit. He responds to what he chooses to. This class is a pre-req and it sucks that I have to retake it because I'm 1pt short.
Wish I came here to read reviews before taking his class. I would say, never make things/life difficult for others just because you are in a better position. Life is very simple. I have never rated a Prof poorly before but this I have to do. Thumbs down.
If I could give him a zero I would. All he cares about is Marvel characters that he put in his own $80 loose leaf textbook. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I have never had to put so much effort into a 100 level class. Take any other sociology professor if you can.
His intelligence and teaching style are completely overshadowed by his arrogance and massive ego. If you do not say what he wants to hear EXACTLY he will cut you off or even mock you if you dare to correct him.Didn't feel comfortable participating at all. Also forces you to buy HIS book.I was told he's tenured and theres nothing the school could do
Professor Baker knows his material and the content is meaningful. Be on top of your readings and have your notes and textbook for the exams because there is not much time for the tests. Extra credit for class participation. His examples and explanations illustrate the concepts very well. He was a tough-love professor. You're a legend Mr Baker!
I concur with other students, and I will say his textbook (which is mandatory for the course) is borderline unintelligible. The whole thing reads like a stream of consciousness, just bombarding you with one poorly constructed sentence after another. Painful. I would have rather taken any other online course to fulfill this degree requirement.
baker's "intelligence" is built up solely upon his own cherry-picking, and he's VERY oppressive to top it off. Textbook is UNINTELLIGIBLE, he doesn't post NO reminders or materials online, absolute joke. His quiz/project/lecture explanations are also EXTREMELY unclear, him trying to confuse or gaslight you is just to make himself look smart. -10/10
Wow, never had a class like one with a person like this guy. Very confusing and also very insulting and self-centered, absolutely do not take. Take any other better processor for this class except this guy.
Do NOT take this guy for any sociology class, he is absolutely HORRIBLE. His teaching style is SO all over the place, making his lecture information and also his book content practically useless for his quizzes. In lectures he will be daring and even BERATE you over THE SLIGHTEST mishap. Make sure to TOTALLY AVOID THIS GUY.
Please do not take his class. This man is arrogant. You will never get to review your correct and incorrect answers to understand why you missed some. I passed his class, but I was frustrated.
This guy has to be the worst person to teach this course, take any other prof possible if you can. Very rude and self-centered, and his excuse is that he "is a professor." Grading makes no sense at all, also he does everything through emails just to make life harder for no reason, instead of just using the regular school platform. Avoid at all cost
Very unclear, confusing, rude, and acts like he's a preacher in class. Absolutely the worst to be teaching this course. Grading also makes no sense, you can feel as if you did everything but you'll somehow come up far from a 100. Absolutely avoid this joke.
Professor Baker's class is challenging but engaging. The textbook is hit-or-miss, but his lectures break down the concepts well. Unstuck AI was a game-changer for study prep.
Dr bake is smart but needs a CHILL pill. The class was a good challenge and made me a better student, but as a whole, his teaching style is too much, his textbook makes no sense, he expects you to know every definition down to the point, and he barely actually lectures about stuff in the book. DONT take his class if ur only taking it as a pre-req!
He is very harsh and does not care about your personal story. If you just listen to and read the book, you should be fine for the most part. I personally loved him, but others highly disliked him.
If you liked to be challenged take his class.
Absolutely without a doubt the worst "instructor" I have ever had. Hard-headed, hard to talk to, unwilling to help, unable to answer any I have had throughout the semester, does not post grades, when asked about grades he is unwilling to share the information. I am genuinely curious as to why he still has a job, he should not be a teacher.
He is a nice guy but is so loud and rude and he randomly picks students to call on and if you get the answer wrong he gives you a condescending look or a rude comment and it is in front of the whole class. you have to read so much. the tests are in awful formating, and he is super hard to take to.
Took this as an asynchronous class. He gives tests, but they were open book. You have to pass the tests to Pass the class. They are weighted heavily. He also wrote the book for the class he teaches, if that means anything. No papers, but a few short answer tests questions. I wouldn't mind taking him again if need be.
For an online class, maybe go ahead if you have to. For an in-person class, forget about it.
You have to use the "textbook" he wrote. It needs a good proofreader. His quizzes and test questions are so complicated that even if you know the material you'd have trouble with the questions. Seems arrogant. I do NOT recommend taking his class.
Dr. Chuck Baker provides well-structured and informative sociology modules that make learning easy to follow and understand. His materials are clear and detailed. Dr. Baker's course is an excellent option for anyone taking sociology online. His well-prepared modules make independent learning manageable and insightful!
hes very much a talker and will make you talk. he also enforces reading the textbook that he wrote.which is okay but its hard to understand and you will need to do further research on the topics he talks about. his quizzes are also long and extensive and will take the whole period. for an online course it might be ok but in person isnt worth it
It's good.
Dr. Baker is a smart man, but intense. His teaching style is hit or SO miss, and if you have any comprehension issues, good luck taking his exams. All on Microsoft word and horribly formatted. You submit everything over email, he doesn't put grades on canvas. Take another professor. If you're in his class already, drop it. If you can't, pray.
At the start of the semester, he said ratemyprof was racist. im sure it is a little but his reviews are cause hes actually like that., ive heard that a ton of departments can't stand him. no empathy.
Dr. Chuck Baker reminds me of why academia is supposed to be earned, not given. He is an amazing lecturer, but a tough grader, nevertheless a very good and caring Professor.
