Fun teacher, very opionated
very fun teacher & not boring. not your average com teacher. interesting.
God-like? Yeah. All hail the one they call Chuck!
very nice, funny...i really hope you get him for comm...really good teacher
Coolest guy, very smart, great teacher
weird guy. piles on the work very heavy at the end so get stuff done ahead.
Made me feel guilty about eating meat.
very attractive & funny professor. Expect to be highly graded on participation
Chuck is a cool guy who is fair to students who try. GO SEE HIM IN HIS OFFICE HOURS, he will like u! Very intelligent guy, I improved my communication skills, not to mention, he's very good looking!
very easy teacher, makes speecher fun and easy. I am not a fun at talking in front of a crowd, but really enjoyed doing the speeches in his class. (very good looking :)
Superb teacher, crappy subject. Chuck is a great speaker, makes the crappy subject bearable, and is chill and laid back. Creates very thorough and helpful study guides & the tests are conceise & well constructed. Read text before class. Holds helpful test reviews the day before tests. EXCELLENT teacher, very fun and chill, it's easy to do well.
chuck was such a chill prof, however, he didnt know much about the subject matter. he would always say,"it's in the book" or make references to spitzberg. he's seriously inlove with brian spitzberg. and ps. he doesn't look like a rat. he's totally cute in a punk subculture way.
He is a great teacher and tries to help you succeed as much as he can. However the material for this class is very confusing and very difficult to prepare for the tests. Even the teacher would get confused at times.
This class is borderline impossible for me. He uses big words because he is trying to be like Spitzberg and no one knows what he's talking about. There are 3 tests and a small group project. I wouldn't reccommend this class but I think its a requirement
The first half of this class was pretty bad.. very dry and boring.. most people dropped after a few weeks.. Once you get passed the midterm its not so bad. Midterm and final, and a huge paper.. try to pick something that interests you for your paper
The worst teacher I have ever had. The material is hard, but it would be much easier to understand if the professor understood it, and he doesnt. Everytime someone asks a question, he gets a confused look on his face and starts flipping through his book like a mad man, then says "I'll have to get back to you with that." Which he never does.
Goehring does his best trying to teach this class, but is apparent that it isn't his forte. I'm sure he's an awesome rhetoric prof. Material for this class is very dull, but it is a requirement. MUST READ, everything comes out of the textbook. Exams are easy if you read and easy group project.
boring material. he tries to make it bearable. goes through lecture notes quickly so bring your comp. multiple opportunities for extra credit, 1 EASY group project, 3 tests. he helps you out if you need it so ask questions in his office or after class. my class sent everyone their study notes so we were pretty prepared, i recommend group studying
I think Chuck is a great teacher! He has alot of material to get through so he has to keep going. Tests come right from the book. Attendance is not mandatory, but make sure you keep up with the readings!!
Relatively easy class, as long as you do the reading and the homework (1-2 discussion questions for each class). There's a group/ partner term paper for the last half of the class, so if you don't like group projects, don't take this class!
if you learn from taking notes think of a better way to learn, this will not help you. he copies full paragraphs out of the book. there is no teaching in this class, he only reads verbatim from the text, no interpretation. in class chuck is as fun as an old shoe, out of class chuck is super chill. this class does not help your understanding of com
Do yourself a favor and go to class with just a highlighter and your book. Study the info he gives on the study guide and you will do fine. Boring material but you'll live.
Very nice teacher. Very approachable and down to earth. The material isn't very interesting, but he knows it and does what he can to make his lectures bearable. Helpful TA, Ben Wiedmaier, who is always available to answer questions. Tests arent hard as long as you study whats on the exam review sheet.
its required. horrible at teaching. you might as well read the book and only show up for the tests. goes page by page through, jesus christ learn to use power point, writing a paragraph on the PP Slide does not count. PP is for summarizing. just try to find/wait for another teacher to teach this class.
Everyone complains that this class is too difficult... it's not too bad. Chuck tries his hardest to make a boring subject more interesting... if you go to every class and pay attention somewhat, you'll pass. Also, you can talk to Chuck about anything and he'll help you out!
Chuck is a cool teacher nice guy really tries to help you. 3 exams (50,75,100 points in order) along w/ couple other random assignments + up to 10 points EC. BUT this class is hard. Difficult concepts to understand. Chuck does a great job w/ a hard class to teach. Grades very fair: throws out bad q's, counts multiple answers at times etc. I got a C
Has bad reputation but is NOT that bad. Read chapters completely and make outline according to study guide (2 days before test max) and you'll be fine. I did that and got an B+/A- on every exam. Super nice teacher, helps you out. COMM 300 is WAYYYYY worse.
Chuck is a cool guy. Very helpful when you approach him. The class becomes easier if you go to class and listen to his lecture. At times, the class might be boring, but chuck does all he can to make it interesting. I missed class many times, but starting to outline chapters at least a couple days before helps. It did for me since I got a B+
I'm rating this professor solely on his position as the academic adviser for the comm dept. He is horrible at this job! He'll never get back to your emails unless you email him like 4 times. I thought I was the only one with the problem but that isnt the case. He is a nice guy and friendly with students but doesn't put us as a first priority. :(
Attendance is not necessary but it definitely helps when it comes down to study and doing to study guide. He is a very helpful, funny, and enjoyable teacher. I didn't really use the textbook and was able to get A/B's on tests.
Chuck is a decent guy overall. He does not want anyone to fail however, do not expect him to be an easy A. You better learn the material, study long hours, and come to class prepared otherwise you will find it very hard passing this class. He expects you to be a responsible college student. His teaching style is bland and boring power points.
The course itself is a very complex course and can be difficult to grasp some of the concepts; however, Goehring is a great professor who is down to earth, funny, and wants you to like his class. His tests are straightforward, but I strongly recommend reading the book because some questions came directly from there.
He is awesome! It's a mandatory and boring class for COMM majors, but Chuck is very cool. What I liked is how straight forward his tests are! Not tricky! 3 Tests, I earned an A and did not open the book. Extra credit is offered! Go to class and take notes! Book is not necessarily necessary. I will definitely take another class of his!
Boring material but he tries to make it interesting. Go to class & take notes. Do the extra credit. You will get an A if you study the study guide. The tests are straight forward. I barely studied and earned an A- in the class.
Great teacher!! He tries his best to explain the material so it is understandable and he is great with answering questions. I would recommend going to class and taking notes for the test. I didn't read the chapters usually but when I did it helped tremendously.
The class and the material is hard and boring, but he provides real good study guides and the tests are very consistent with the study guides. Do the extra credit and the little plagiarism tutorials and online quizzes and the class is real easy. An A grade if you study the study guides before tests is extremely plausible. Nice and personable guy
Strictly lectures with PPTs. No attendance checked, all material from the book so you can just read at home, but he really narrows things down for you and explains them. Tests aren't hard, only 3 though with chance for extra credit. Would take again.
The material is just intrinsically complex, and sort of dull. But, Chuck tries to make come alive. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Two midterms, a couple of quizzes, final & only 10pts Extra Credit. Tests were a little harder than expected, every time. Get a study buddy & your odds of succeeding will dramatically improve. Best of luck!
hard class but if you read the book and take notes you'll be fine. work with a partner when studying it helps to talk things out. got an A- and gives extra credit for showing up to class
The class is hard! Do all you're readings and you should be okay. Take advantage of his note outlines online and study his study guides! His class is the same thing every day a little monotone. Class is not mandatory but he doesn't post ppts online, so unless u know someone in the class, you really shouldn't miss!
Do the study guides before tests, they clearly outline how many questions per topic will be asked on the test. Asking questions during lectures doesn't always generate a clear answer, but ask as many as possible during the review because those answers are usually clear and concise with what's on the study guide.
Great teacher. He is extremely easygoing, interesting and clear. I enjoyed this class. It was a good mixture of challenge and ease.
Yes this class takes work but if you study al of the notes and do his study guides you should be okay. He is extremely nice and doesn't grade the tests too hard! Do well on your first test so it gives you a cushion for the 100 point final. Thanks for the great semester Chuck
its almost the end of the semsester.. i have a C. this teacher is cool on account of he tells you in the lectures what is going to be on the test, its really easy just take good notes and study bless
Class is not going to be easy. He don't take attendance but it is helpful to go to class to learn the material. Best tip would be to take good notes and review them. The course can be dry and first but as you go along in the term the class starts to make a lot of sense. Not easy but you can pass with a C or better if you try.
Easy to skip class, but make sure you read. I studied my butt off(but do terrible on tests) and passed with a B-. I had a wedding for the first test and he had me take it another day,Really nice teacher, helpful, funny. Lectures were boring but I also didn't understand a lot of this subject, that's me. Great teacher overall.
Chucks class isn't easy but he's a great teacher. It's not difficult either. You have the option of showing up, or not showing up. It will have an impact on your participation at the end of the semester. Buy the text and READ. Tests are very straight forward. They're not difficult if you study. 3 tests and a few assignments in between- That's it!
Took him for Comm 350-- awesome professor. 3 major exams with small assignments here and there. He uses "Top hat" which is like the "Clicker" for participation points. Material can be boring but he makes it interesting and relatable to real life. Exams are not tricky nor difficult if you understand the material. Would take him again!
Great teacher! Doesn't try to trick you on any of the tests, he simply asks straight forward questions. Provideds a detailed outline of material that will be on the tests& how many questions. READ THE BOOK! And you'll do just fine in his class. Loved his teaching style. Will def. be taking as many of his classes as I can. THANKS, Chuck!
Chuck is a very fun, and influential teacher, who isn't shy to crack a joke from time to time. His test are very straight forward, and provides a study guide. He offers easy side assignments, extra credit to help boost your grade, And is always willing to answer questions. The only real catch with the class is that the reading material is very dry.
Favorite teacher!!!!!! Class fun, easy. half lectures half Group projects that were easy. 2 tests, 2 movies of choice and write short papers at home. Grades on tophat logins, can skip class sometimes and pass. Weekly blog writing were easy. GREAT teacher, caring, kind, great feedback, helpful. TAKE IT!
He is a really great professor, very funny and keeps your attention. He does PP slides, but he goes through them a little quick sometimes. He also does NOT post them on blackboard. Also, his study guides for the exams sometimes aren't as detailed as you'd hope. Sometimes theres notes that arent on the study guide, or things in the book not covered
As an exchange student, I still heard rumours about the difficulty of this class. However, I found that when I attended class I knew exactly what was going on, doubly so if I read the relevant chapters in the textbook. Overall, Chuck is very clear on how to pass - attend class and READ THE TEXTBOOK. Easy as that.
Study guides tell you how many q's will be on each concept, so not detailed. But, this basic-level stuff is stuff u need a good, general idea of in order to move forward in comm. Need to move past only learning what will be on tests (which aren't hard) PowerPoint not posted online. u can do decently well on tests wo reading if you take good notes
Easy A class. Chuck is an easy professor in the School of Comm and one that you'll actually enjoy. Take this class!
Chuck is a very fun teacher and his test are actually enjoyable! They make you feel confident and mirror the study guides.
Chuck is an easy professor, go to class is a must!!!! because he takes attendance. In addition, go to class and take notes from his slices because if you do, you don't have to do the reading :). Overall, study the exact study guide that he gives you and you will get an easy A because his test is not tricky at all.
Chuck is a great teacher. Definitely show up for class. The book helps but if you go to his class and take notes you wont need it too much. His study guides are spot on so make sure you study them throughly and the tests will be a breeze. He makes lectures interesting even when the material seems dry. Good professor overall.
First off, Chuck is hilarious. I think he secretly does stand up comedy on the side. He's very helpful. His lectures are clear. He really emphasizes reading the book, BUT you'll still do fine without it. ;) He gives awesome study guides! And definitely show up to class! He takes attendance everyday via TopHat...
The class material and readings can be really dense but Dr. Goehring does an awesome job at making the concepts easier to understand during his lectures. Ask questions if you don't understand something, he's more than willing to clarify. His tests are pretty straight-forward. Definitely recommend taking his classes.
The material is dense as others have mentioned and can get quite boring, but Chuck makes the material interesting during lectures. He's funny, energetic, and very helpful if you're confused about anything. This was one of the easiest comm classes I've taken, but it's honestly because it's a very straightforward class. Study guides help a ton!
I've never written a rating for a professor, but i just had to for Chuck! Not only does he make such boring material easier to digest, but he is also very straightforward with his material. His study guides are EXTREMELY true to his exams. He also takes attendance but makes allowance for you to miss 3-4 classes. TAKE CHUCK!
One of the easiest communication classes I have taken. It was his first time teaching a summer class so it might have been easy due to his lack of experience teaching this type. I enjoyed his class and found his test and assignments very easy. I would take it again without hesitation.
Chuck does a great job making dry material interesting. Makes it very clear what he expects from you and what will be on the test. Study guides are super helpful. His biggest pet peeve is students who don't read the textbook, so be prepared to read if you don't want to be on his bad side.
If you have the chance to take this for the Honors Minor, don't. Lectures consist of talking about the most recent news related to gender for 90% of class, then briefly talks about something new the next period. When you get to the essay or final, you know nothing. I studied like crazy and received an 80 and 81 on those. Don't do that to yourself.
I have had Chuck before and I liked him then but for this class I absolutely despised him. He doesnt really go over anything in class that is needed for tests. He starts class with "well, what is going on with the world" and will waste 20/50 minutes in class talking about that. Essays are annoying, because if he doesnt agree with you, good luck.
BEWARE, he is rude at office hours and will make you feel utterly incompetent. Massive essay due at the end of the semester and your entire grade depends on it and he wont give a rubric for what he wants on it. 10 discussion board posts due but he never says when they're due or when he has posted them. Overall extremely disorganized & unfriendly.
Easy class. Read the textbook and pay attention during lectures. 2 essays, 1 final, and 1 presentation.
Extremely condescending. He talks to everyone like they are stupid and you can never do or say anything right in his class but then he gets mad when no one wants to answer his questions. Massive essay at the end, no clear direction on what he wants. Assigns an extreme amount of reading in the textbook and 20+ page documents from Aristotle each week
His lectures are some of the most engaging I have ever experienced. You will learn so much about gender roles in society, and your perspective will be broadened. He is very passionate about helping the LGBTQ+ community and cares about overall social awareness. Class is relatively easy if you do the readings.
His interaction and gender class is fun and learn a lot of things you dont really think about
His 441 is so complicated. The readings are hard and at the end he just gives you a week to do 15 page paper dont take thus just take his interaction and gender class instead
He is so biased in his politics then wonders why nobody participates in his class. Teachers should allow all points of view in the discussion, but he's so left-biased. He makes it feel like all Republicans are wrong wrong wrong and everything he says is the law. Good luck on papers because you'll have to agree with his POV to get a good grade.
A few of our classes were only about 20-30 mins of actual lecture out of an hour and a half or two because we spent the whole time on current events. Democrats always good in this class, and all examples of bad politicians/ideals were Republican. If you want to expand your mindset, learn to think critically, and hear all sides, pick another class.
He is so organized, he wants you to pass. He is always open to give you feedback and helpful during office hours. I went once to go over a test and he is very clear about how to improve. Just do the assignments and ask questions! He always responded to my emails and let me do the SONA studies for extra credit. I will take him again!
I had him for capstone and 441 at sdsu! He was a great professor and very personable. Used to bring up a lot of politics and without trying to would push his beliefs on us a little bit. He did really care about his students. A few group projects but nothing crazy. It was a great last comm class!
He can be very condescending in class when someone gives the wrong answers to his questions. He's also a very tough grader even if you follow his instructions. His feedback doesn't help either. Definitely would not take again.
This man is the most dismissive teacher I have ever had in my life. He encourages questions only to laugh in your face and make you feel dumb for asking so he can make himself feel so much smarter by explaining the concept, he has dedicated his life to researching. His favorite sound to listen to is his own voice. I wish his future students luck!
He might seem like a nice guy but he is not, yes we want everyone to suceed but that is not the truth. All he does laugh in your face and says " no offense" or in " your generation" he is extremely harsh grader espically with the feeback he gives does nothing. Gives week to write a 13 paper which is terrible The way he manages canvas is annoying.
He's a nice guy, but can be annoying. He has his favorite students for sure. He does give entertaining examples and has group work which makes the time pass faster! The actual work is not hard. Everything is online, including midterms. However, the final is in person. Yes he is left leaning but he has never pushed his beliefs on anyone in my class
Not sure why RMP puts the bad reviews at the top, this guy is one of my favorite professors! He makes a few annoying pointed jokes and may be a tad too critical of religion at times but he really cares about his students. Textbook info is all on slides, did not make us go to friday class, tests are online, can finish assignments in class.
Dr. Goehring is an average professor. His lectures are often sidetracked by political rants. It's more informative to read the textbook than go to class, but attendance is required for weekly quizzes. He's an easy grader but hard to reach outside of class. Assigning a group project during finals week was inconvenient for a mostly senior class.
Literally the worst professor ever. He is so rude, gives horrible feedback. Doesn't answer emails. Takes FOREVER to grade things. Awful. DO NOT reccomend. He is so coc*y and thinks he knows everything, doesn't care about student success one bit. He finds joy in giving low scores. 0/10.
