Mr. Herzig's teaching style can't be beat! He not only clearly teaches the material, but is interested in helping his students succeed! He prepares his students for each test by giving them an outline. Jokes are a bit corny, but you gotta love him!

Fun teacher

Very enjoying class. Took a 3-hour-course but the time just like flies by. Tests are not very hard, all from his notes but just have to memorize quite a lot. He's extremely entertaining too, guarantee will keep you awake

He has a great style of teaching, gives alot of handouts with pictures. Also makes learning fun and easy. I would strongly recomend taking him for geology. Really nice guy!

Veyr entertaining guy. Has the personality of a tour guide. Lots of handouts and notes and brings in his left wing poltics whenever given the chance ("war for oil")

he is very passionate about his teachings. he is a very good teacher. his tests are from his lectures. it's a fairly easy class, but there is a lot of info you need to know.

Very intresting and you actually know something when you leave the class. He will help make you think about the earth after you leave the class. He jokes alot too so that helps for long classes

Very flamboyant in his personality, but an overall good teacher. He's witty at times, sometimes just plain sarcastic with certain student comments. Test are big and studying the notes and handouts are a MUST. He grades on a curve though, so you may have a better time in the class...Recommended.

Great teacher. There is a lot of work, but some of it is really fun and you actually learn and remember things in his class. He explains things really well, so that each student can relate in some way or another.

he is really, really, really nice and so helpful! I honestly had little interest in Geology, but he made the class more than bearable. He has an EFFERVESCENT type of personality and tries to make the class fun. I took him for lecture and lab a year ago and i still remember him and probably will continue to think highly of him forever. TAE HIM!

This teacher has hard test but their all from the notes so just study very hard and you'll do fine you then have a paper project but its fun because you get to pick your topic.He is also very funny.Very cool guy.

Dr.Herzig is the best teacher in Sci., I'm a international student with limited language but I'm really enjoyed his class. You don't need to read the book for test. Test is exactly straight in his note. If you study only his note and his handout (diagram), you will get A easily. He makes his class more fun in the "rock". I highly recomment for all.

great teacher. He loves the subject and especially volcanoes. He gives u a study guide that tells you everything on his test. take good notes, and write down everything from your notes that he mentions in the study guide. Study that and u'll get a good grade on his tests for sure. He is also very helpful and funny!

Dr. Herzig really helped answer some of the questions i have about the way I look at the world around me. He challenges, yet he inspires his students. Recomended to those who want to make something of thier time at El Camino

He is funny as hell and loves to teach, especially about volcanoes. always gives study sheets were the questions to the tests come from. take notes and study for his tests and you'll do fine. is willing to give extra credit. he made class interesting and is always willing to help his students. I miss his class and recommend him to everyone!

Cool porfessor. Relaly tot he point will ruch at the end of the class come finals. Watch out for his dual final system too. If you do alright on the 4 (Only 3 count) tests, do the HW's (All 4 of them)(dont copy there all random & diffrent) you will be ok. Also be aware he is really easy to talk too if you need help and will help you study.

Best teacher I've had at ECC so far. He really wants you to do well and provides study guide outline. If you put effort to study you will do fine. He is very easy going. Sometimes goes over ideas quickly, but as long as you speak up and ask questions he will go over again. Welcomes any and all questions.

This is one lecturer who teaches well, loves to teach, loves his subject, and wants his students to do well. Absolutely fun class. If you can't pass his class with all the help he gives you, you should think seriously about trying harder or quitting.

He is super cool and kinda funny. He gives you a study guide that tells you EXACTLY what you need to study and be familiar with. I took it during the winter and got a B and I missed a test. I would've gotten an A otherwise. He makes it interesting even if you don't really like the subject matter. I definately recommend taking this class! :o)

There is a whole lot of wrk for jst 1 unit! Extremely fast. He's nice BUT tricky! watch out! If you leave early he'll give credit to the rest of the cls for being there. Not such an easy class. but there is no h/w so that is a positive. Prev. stdnt who made cmnt is correct.

Great teacher! if your going to take his class make sure you take all the notes that he writes down on the board they are actually the answers to the test you just gotta study them as well the papers he passes out. he give extra credit after each test 10pts max. he's funny and cool.. thats all I have to say!

this teacher was great. I was not really that interested in the course but once the class had begun i enjoyed it very much. You learn a lot of cool things. The teacher is funny and can be a smart ass but he is cool. Textbook is only used for HW. The important thing to is to take notes. Everything that is on your notes will be on the test.

Dr. Herzig's sense of humor makes lectures entertaining provided you have the wit to match. He doesn't mind going off on tangents and welcomes his students to come along with him if you don't mind taking a break from the subject material. His class, like ALL classes, is easy if you make an effort. You'll get what you put into it.

Awesome! Tests based on handouts and his lectures so take lots of notes. He is very nice and helpful but he will not give you a free grade. You have to work for it but he will help you as much as you need. Full period classes with a long lunch break and 2 small breaks. Very fun and great teacher to ALL students.

Dr. Herzig is one of the best teachers I have had at el camino. There are NO surprises in this class just write down everything that he writes on the board(not a lot) and look over the study guide (that tells you everything even the essay question) If you do these things you'll be fine

Prof. Herzig is sooo nice. His tests aren't that bad and the lecutres and labs are tremendously fun. I wish I could take him again. I would highly recommend him.

Awesome teacher. Lectures are really fun and interesting to listen to, even if you don't like science. Tests can be a little difficult because there is a lot of information on them but he gives plenty of short essay/homework assignments which are easy points and raise your grade if you don't do well on tests. Highly reccomended!

Dr. Herzig is AMAZING. He is the BEST teacher at El Camino that I have Ever had. To be honest I wasn't exactly excited to take Geology, but Dr. Herzig made it so engaging that I actually looked forward to going to class. I won't lie the class isn't an easy A. You have to show up, read and do your homework, but he will make you want to do it.

Dr. Herzig is an excellent instructor. I had absolutely no interest in geology. Now I'm pleased I had to take the class. He is very clear as to what is expected of you. He returns all exams and assignments in a timely fashion. If you're going to take geology take Dr. Herzig.

dr chuck is amazing! he is realli easy and he makes geology so much interesting. i didnt kno anything about geology nor i cared bout it but now i got a reason 2 care. his study guide has the exact things which will appear on our tests. and he usualli give our tests back the next day. take him, u wont regret it!!!

Dr. H is a really awesome teacher! Very easy to pay attention to and he is hilarious! I learned a lot about a subjuect that is generally hard to listen to. Minimal homework and there are field trips and a cruise. read the book and pay attention. I highly recommend!!

Prof Herzig was by far my favorite teacher at el camino. Super funny and very helpful. Makes oceanography interesting and actually pretty cool. feild trips to the beach, and a 1 day cruise. very dedicated and extremely helpful to students. I highly recommend him for any of his classes, but take oceanography if you can, you wont regret it!

Dr.Herzig is one of my favorite teachers at El Camino! He is very helpful to his students and works hard with them if you show that you are willing to work hard too. He is very interesting and hilarious and makes going to class fun. I highly recommend him if you want to learn about something new and have fun at the same time!

Wonderful teacher, makes you eant to go to class. Exams are a bit hard you have to make sure to set aside enough study time. Good Sense of humor, you learn but you do have to give effort. A+ Teacher all the way..

Overall good teacher. The class is pretty clear and he tells you what he wants. He does give a lot of assignments and the test you do have to study and prerpare for but if you do these things you will get a B atleast.

Herzig makes the class really fun, the lectures are simply and short, he will play videos most of the time. Little bit of homework, a few short essays.He will tell you what's on the tests , if you memorize the study guide, you will get a good grade. Lots of extra credit. He is hilarious and you will learn a lot in this class.

no hw, very interesting class,just show up and do the lab exercises. Attendance is very important(he acts like he doesn't care , but he will mark off a lot of points), don't miss the field trips. should take this class with Geo 1

Herzig is GREAT. he is funny and makes boring topics interesting! very little hw, short essays, but tests require a bit of time to study for...you'll basically have to memorize the entire study guide along with diagrams. but absolutely HIGHLY recommended!!!

He's honestly a good teacher. I got a D in his class, but I still enjoyed it. He grades his research papers like an english teacher, but it's all good.

He is a great professor, clearly understands that most all students have other classes, and/or work. Very fun & keeps the class focused lots of change, i.e. movies, examples, live props, etc.

Good professor. Down side is that there is no text book so if you missing something in lecture, you might be in trouble for the tests.... I would take a class taught by Dr. H again.

prof. herzig is a really cool professor, he makes the class fun with his jokes, incorporates lots of movie clips, models to pass around, and relates it back to our lives. his lectures arent boring at all, but his tests are majorly hard. like you really have to study those study guides and remember the diagrams.

learned A LOT coming out of his class. he was able to incorporate the subject to our lives. about 4 midterms, 1 final that isn't accumulative, a research paper, labs & hw. he keeps you entertained and makes the 3 hours go by really fast. easy A if you copy the notes he gives you during lectures and study them for the tests.

professor herzig was a really nice guy, who made it easy to pay attention in class. i found myself talking about some of the stuff i learned outside of class. i took him during the winter and it was pretty fast paced. he gives you a list of exactly what you need to know on the tests. study and take notes, all will be well.

This class was NEVER boring!Dr. G was hilarious, always making students laugh. If your having trouble he will help you if you ask & have a good attitude about learning. Must turn in a Portfolio project. There are alot of test, some harder than others, but there is bonus poiints, so that really helps (study!)Field trips to some great local spots!

You will learn alot in this class.Fast paced, not boring. Funny, helpful teacher. Field trips to PV, Cabrillo,Malega Cove,etc.make class fun! Tape lectures, that will help you. This class is not a breeze, but it sure was fun! I got an A, but i worked my butt off. One really has to study alot for the tests. Dr. G rocks! Gonna miss this class. =(

Dr. Herzig was a pleasure. Love the alternate site activities (field trips). I don't think I fell asleep once in his class. Don't miss class especially not a lab! I recommend his class eve though science is not my thing.

A friend recommended I take Herzig for Oceanography stating that it was his favorite class he ever took at El Camino. That makes two of us now. Herzig is really funny and smart. The 3 hour long class flies by due to great course material and his amazing swagger. You will work hard, but you will love what you learn. E-Hux for life!

I took Herzig's geography 1 class during the winter semester and boy was it strenuous. Its fast paced and VERY hard to get an A; I got a B. Mr Herzig is sort of biased towards certain students.

One of the best teachers you'll ever have. I didn't think there was a way for a geology class to be fun, but prof. Herzig is incredibly upbeat and has a great sense of humor. He even went out of his way to make a cheap textbook specially for the class.

Herzig takes his class very seriously, but there is play time and if you pay attention you will get a good grade(not an easy A). Class is very informative and fun.You can't miss class or come in late. He allows you to check your current grade throughout the semester to keep you on track. Final is tomorrow and I have 86% so far.I enjoyed this class.

Is entertaining, but spends too much time joking around & complaining about cell phones, being late, etc. No textbook, there is a workbook you have to fill in-if you are absent good luck! Tests are very easy although the study guide not always relevant to actual test; lab exams are graded very harshly-C or D with A for the written tests. Weird.

Very funny, knows his stuff, and made his own $10 textbook, to take the burden off students! Relaxed atmosphere, but DONT be late or miss class. His tests arent bad, but his lab practicals are HARSHlY graded. you have to go into extreme detail to get a decent grade on them- vague answers get you a C/D. Takes everything very personally and seems to let his problems bleed over into the classroom. I'm pretty sure he lowered my grade based on my attitude rather than academics. He demands too much from his students, tests are made of poorly worded trick questions, very rude and condescending to students. Highly recommend that you don't take this class

I like this teacher a lot.I actually learn very interesting things. You could tell he loves what he does and he is funny with is dorky jokes. The book was just 8 dollars which was a go for me and he is very picky on his grading but overall his very good.

Amazing teacher - that can really teach you a lot, both class related and not. He literally gave the best college motivational speech in my 2 years at a JC. You need to study for his class though! Pay attention!

Easy class as long as you study the notebook/notes and if you ever need help make sure you ask him or go to his office hours and he's more than likely to help! Make sure you go to every class, lots of material covered in each class meeting

TAKE HIM!! In total there are 4 test and a two part final. A major essay, but its not that bad. He gives bonus for every test you take so you get a chance to make up your grade. Just study your notes well and you should be fine. He is a great teacher plus he is funny.

This is a very challenging class so you must pay attention and study. Herzig knows his stuff and enjoy teaching students. If you are a lazy student who want the professor to hold your hand, this class is not for you. But for the hard working folks take this class and succeed!

I took Herzig for both Geo1 and OC12 bc I liked him! He's really funny and uses pop culture references to keep our interest. He makes his own textbook and lab manual ($25 for both). His tests are DIRECTLY the notes in the workbook but still tough, so study!!(He gives a lot of extra credit) Don't be afraid to ask questions. Do NOT miss class!

GREAT FAIR teacher, the subject was new to me, he made it easy to understand. Always there during office hours to provide additional help if you need it. Does not put anyone on blast unless they are being disrespectful and on their phones which could be why they had such a bad experience!! Pay attention, ask questions and you will do pass!!

He's a good teacher. The tests are really difficult, but he gives bonus and if you study they're do-able. He's pretty funny and very informative. He can also be a little brash sometimes, but he's not mean just realistic. It's a hard class, but if you work hard you can get an A.

I just took Ocean 10 my fall semester, and I do not regret it. I would come home and share what I had learned at the end of the day because it was so interesting, and I would have probably hated it, had Herzig not been the one to teach me. Very funny, always helpful, give respect and you'll get it in return. By far my favorite professor.

Great teacher! Best out of the geology department! He is very clear on his lectures and he's hilarious. Only gives 5 test through out the semester and they are all pretty easy if you study and pay attention. Gives extra credit right after a test and is always there when you need him. There are 3 research papers but they are fairly simple.

This professor is AWESOME!!! Everyone an easily pas with a B as long as you show up and do your work. Even though its a long class, make sure to bring snacks. GEOLOGY ROCKS!!!

I took his class over this summer, even tho it's a 4 hour class he makes it interesting at times. He makes everything clear since day 1, if you study you shall do fine

As long as you show up and copy notes word for word you will pass. He goes by pretty fast after the second test and it gets pretty tough. The students who took SI got the highest grades in class so take SI! IT WILL BOOST YOUR GRADE GUARANTEED. Tough grader with essays, you can work in groups of 3 for extra credit during tests. Choose peers wisely.

For professor Herzig's class, you will not need a textbook but you will need to buy a notebook from the bookstore called "Lecture Notes & Workbook". The good thing is that it about $13. He gives you a total of 5 tests, lots of quizzes, 3 small research papers, & 1 two page research paper. Study study hard!

Herzig is chilllll. Geo 3 was so easy but I learned a lot. He just uses this workbook. He also has open book tests ( that are manly fun labs). He offers a lot of extra credit. The class was 3+ hours but I never dreaded it. Easy A if you just go to class because you cant make up labs or anything.

Makes geology approachable. Does a great job communicating complex ideas. Assigns his own book, which is about $120 CHEAPER than your typical book, and serves as a place to take notes. You will actual finish the entire book. Tests are challenging but not impossible. Just study up before each one. Ample extra credit. Show up every day, on time.

Professor Herzig is a great professor. We used a workbook that he wrote, and it makes learning the material very easy. There isn't a lot of reading, because he has condensed a lot of information into the workbook in an easy to learn fashion. The tests require memorization, so get ready for some flash cards.

Herzig is a great teacher. He cares about his students, he wants you to pass. He doesn't trick you, he's very straight forward. He made Geology interesting and he is very funny. Class was never boring. You learn so much you can use in real life. Test and quizzes are straight forward, he gives you a study guide to use. No textbook! Yippy!

Took him for Ocean 10 and later Geo 6 and all that fun stuff. There is no sugarcoating in this class, only truth. No tricks or anything, everything is in the textbook and in his lectures, so attendance is important. His lectures were so compelling that by the end of the semester, I became like him!

Herzig is a wonderful professor. He is the main reason I am pursuing a major in Earth Sciences, Specifically geology. If you are interested in the subject you will love the guy, if not, just show up and do the work and you will be fine, hes good like that.

There is a lot of group work but my class was talkative so that wasn't a problem for anyone. His tests are pretty tough. I got B's on the first 2 exams, but after I caught on to the way he structures his exams, I got A's on the rest! He offers a lot of extra credit. Just study, attend class, and ask questions. Funny over & an easy class to pass with the workbooks

Dr. Herzig is a great professor and has a passion for his field of expertise. With an open mind, the class is extremely entertaining and informative. With a closed mind, the class is just another boring science class. Dr. Herzig appreciates class participation, so if he is entertained, you're going to be entertained. Overall, great class.

Mr. Herzig is a great professor. He knows the topics very well, he's really funny, and makes lecture entertaining. He is honest and his class is straightforward. The course is heavily based on lectures, labs, and exams. Everything on the tests is based on the lecture notes. There are 5 midterms and 1 project. It's doable if you put in the effort.

Easy enough as long as you pay attention in class. Not a lot of homework. Really funny and down to earth dude. Some labs take place at the beach. Great professor if you have a short attention span, he makes funny little asides during lectures pretty often and breaks down hard topics to be as simple as possible. Don't take him if you skip classes.

Dr. Rock is very funny and keeps you engaged, made the 3 hours pass by quickly. He is pretty strict and is a harsh grader. Tests are straightforward, he gives you everything you need to succeed. If you take GEO 1, I HIGHLY recommend taking GEO3 (lab) simultaneously. It makes everything so much easier.

Great professor, however sassy at times. Probably would take him again, if he didnt set examples and fail me for one project.

Absolutely love him. His classes are very informative. He is a little hard to get along with sometimes because he's very sassy but if you manage to show him that you're genuinely interested, he'll be one of the most helpful people you'll meet. I've been out of ElCo for over a year and I still reach out to him for career advice.

Over all a wonderful professor to take just study allot for exams, and take your homework very seriously. He is really funny tends to go off topic at times. Little too scaractic. But overall, you'll leave with great knowledge about our world.

honestly the best teacher ever, I really enjoyed the class and everything I learned. There's an ongoing joke or reality check that the worlding is ending which would give me anxiety during class other than that, 10/10 would recommend

Dr. Rock is a sweetheart. Kind enough to make a textbook that is about $16 compared to the $100 geo textbook. His humor is something to get used to but if you aren't sensitive he is an intelligent, fair, caring professor. He is old school and demands his rules to be respected. Keep up and it is essentially an "easy" class.

His class is interesting, provides great perspective, and can be "easy" so long as you study. He is old school, and expects his rules to be followed. But, he wants you to succeed. If you have questions, ask. If you need help, ask. He's more than happy to clear anything up. His humor and personality probably aren't for everyone, though.

Taking Geology 3 lab online can be challenging online since the whole purpose of a lab is to get a hand on science experience. Regardless of who the instructor is, laboratories require critical thinking and independent comprehension skills. Dr. Herzig provides enough help to understand the material so long as you are proactive and seek it.
