He is a great instructor. He kept me interested in writing, which is pretty tough to do. He's also hilarious and willing to spend extra time with his students.

I'm not sure what some of these people are talking about. He's one of the best teachers I've ever had. The problem is that in Eng. 272 you actually have to be able to write well and it looks like this last person is illiterate.

I can't believe Ramshaw has a pretty low rating average. I am taking his currently taking his class for the summer. It's not as hard as I thought it would be, but it's pretty tough. You have to do a lot of writing. But all in all, he's super awesome. By the way, he doesn't give good grades to students he enjoy talking to. You deserve what you get.

Mr. Ramshaw's class was fun this summer. I took his English 101 class and it was great. He is a helpful, interesting and great teacher. Mr. Ramshaw always makes himself available for any questions. I am an okay writer, but I learned a lot, so I'm a great writer now. If you want to learn take him. I recommend it.

Professor Ramshaw was one of the best Professors I've ever had. He's awsome and extremely bright. I learned a lot in his class which by the way was very interesting. I think that whoever that did not like his class is because they were lazy and did not like to work. Professor Ramshaw makes you learn his material in a very interesting way.

wow. so much hate towards mr. ramshaw. i had him for 60, 60 and 101, i wish i had him for 103 but he didn't teach that. he was a very helpful, and to be honest it does not matter if your femmale or male, kinda bias dont you think? excuse the punctuation and grammer, in a hurry. P.s i currently attend CSUF and his writing techniques have helped me.

If you're an ESL student, maybe you should take an ESL class. He's a terrific teacher who is extremely helpful. It's an English class people. Get over it.

Super easy, super chill class. I took his class over the summer so it was pretty rigorous...papers and responses to questions everyday pretty much or at least every week. Umm he's not that bad, I thought his class was easy. Just participate in class and work on your papers.

Easy class, but he needs to pick better topics and articles for students to write on. He doesn't help much though like what other people said, but yeah as long as you go up to him after class and ask for help, he's really cool about it and his comments are helpful.

Very good professor who sets the rules and stands by them. Those who made bad comments probably didn't fare well in class. The course was fairly easy to understand. ESL students need to get a grip and study more English before taking this course and bad mouthing the teacher. I did it, so some of them may be able to do the same.

I took this class, regardless of the poor reviews according to this site. But, I was surprised to find he was quite helpful. He let me know what kind of work I needed to do to get through the course. Also, people, there are resources available to help you with your writing (i.e. the writing center). This is 4 units your expected to do your end.

Do NOT listen to the bad comments about Ramshaw. Those who gave him a bad review probably got a bad grade in his class due to their own irresponsibility. He is a tough grader, which is great. Because of his class, writing papers at the University level was a breeze for me. His class will be hard work, but you will be so thankful for it in the end.

Ramshaw has got to be the coolest teacher out there!!! I took him during the summer 2010 semester which was a cram but the class was not difficult at all. All we did was discuss todays life watch 3 movies and write occasional journals!!! His grading is decent,,,,by far easiest and funniest teacher i have had!!!

He is a laid back professor, easy going and very helpful. Read his comments on your papers and fix them to learn from your mistakes. If you think this class is hard, why are you in college? I passed his class with an A+ and was going to take him for Engl 101 but I transferred to a four year private school. Best English professor.

I just took the summer session, it is a really intense course so if you are going to take this class during the summer you have to be ready to go, go, go...it is true there are 2 pg papers due every Mon and Wed. & a lot of reading but the teacher is a fair grader. I would suggest taking this course during a regular semester. I got a B; not too bad.

Professor Ramshaw's 102 summer course requires a decent amount of reading. It is an 8-week course and culminates with a research paper on a novel. There are 5 papers in addition to the research paper (two are in-class essays). He grades fair and is also a pretty funny guy. He responds to email questions quickly.

Great Teacher!!! Was nervous because my writing skills isn't the best, but in the end did fairly well >B<. Can get off topic but easily jumps back on board. Very helpful and you constantly know what your grade is. Let's you know what you need to raise your grade. Highly Recommend.

I took Professor Ramshaws online hybrid class and it was great. There is a lot of reading and literary analyisis in this class. He provides great essay prompts as well as modern reading to keep the student interested. 3 papers 1 research paper and 2 inclass essays, . Take this surfer dude seriously

Took his online class. It wasn't easy, but it was definitely passable. He responds to emails super quickly, which helped & you can tell he loves what he does. 4 classes meetings in all, they're pretty mandatory, but short & sweet.

This was a hybrid class online/on campus. I believe we met on campus 4 times. English is my was my least favorite subject so I saved it for my last class. I felt Professor Ramshaw was a very good teacher and have and would recommend him to others.

Was picky on grammatical errors and sentence fragmentation. Overall great teacher, explained what he expected thoroughly and graded fairly. I wouldn't suggest taking if youre looking for an easy A. Only required 2 books which were completely optional and not necessary to write the essays he provided us with.

i took Mr. Ramshaw for a 6 week class during the spring. He was so helpful througout the entire 6 weeks. We had in class essays and 3 research reports. But they research reports were so easy and the topics were intersting, nothing dry. I would highly recommend him for a 6 week course, its a breeze!

It was a difficult class because of the heavy reading and writing assignments. This is not an easy A, B, or C type of class. You will be challenged in your writing skills, but in the end it is worth it.

I took his class for the 8 weeks and the class seemed to be forever. He was very nice and helpful at times. Most of the class is writing in class, so if you don't work well under pressure think about it twice. Overall he was cool and easy

I love writing so I LOVED this class. He is very clear and easy to understand. He grades really fairly and is way smart. I learned so much from him. I wish he taught more classes that I could take. Online classes tend 2 b harder than traditional classes. Ramshaw is a tough grader, so b prepared to to work hard. The reading is light, nothing 2 freak about. Journal entries are short - just looking for understanding. Essays can be tough, but just do ur best and ask lots of questions. You'll def learn how to write in his class. Hard but worth it

I took his class in the summer. He explains exactly what he expects of you, a lot of reading and writing. You must definitely earn your grade but he is very fair. I learned a lot in such a short time.

I took Ramshaw for online course for english 101 and it went by quick. The class meeting were an hour long, 4 times we met in the semester. When we meet in class, he gets straight to the point and answers all questions. You can pass the class with an A by just following his rubrics.

Took the hybrid class, which is online and only meets 4 times, twice to do in class essays. There are also weekly discussion boards, journals, and 3 papers to do. If you're good at English and analyzing literature, this will be a breeze.

You read the Hunger games and watch the movie. You do journals so buy 2 blue books that are sold at the SAC Student Store. 4-5 essays and that's it. Such an easy class

During my time at SAC, I had the privilege of having Professor Ramshaw for both my English 61 and 101 courses. He made English enjoyable and an overall fun class. Any time I had issues with the course material, he didn't hesitate to assist. overall, if you put in the time and effort, you will do outstanding in his class!

He is an amazing English Professor. He's always willing to help you if you're struggling, funny personality, and gets right to the point. He is super fast at grading papers- he has your paper graded by the next day! You do a couple of essays but as long as you try your best, proofread, and do everything he asks, you're good. Took him in the fall and got an A in the class. Theres a decent amount of essays but he gives you more than enough time to complete them and is a very quick grader so your grade is always up to date. Only used the textbook a few times and after the in class essay based on one of the short stories, we didnt use it at all.

Expectations and assignments for the hybrid course were crystal clear from day one. Instructions were easy to follow, examples were given and feedback was great. If you receive anything less than a passing grade you either need a refresher course or are just lazy. I highly recommend this professor!

I took this (hybrid) class during the summer for 4 weeks but it was an amazing class. I think since everything was squeezed into 4 weeks instead of a regular 16 week class, it made it difficult but it was still very manageable. The professor is very nice, funny, and respectable. The work isn't difficult but you do have to work for it.

He is thorough in annotating. I appreciated the feedback because he was clear on his grading. He did offer for people to turn in revisions on essays that were turned in previously. It is a lot of reading, as to be expected. The timed essays revolve around the material read. He provided a syllabus that he stuck through to all semester.

I took Ramshaw online. There's a total of 6 essays, each one gets longer as you go. Two of them are timed essays, which was the toughest part of the class, but he gives you plenty of time just make sure you read everything he assigns. The final essay is 6 pages, but it builds off of the previous essay, so it's very doable. Never assigns busy work.

I took this class during the summer so it was pretty fast past, if you cannot write essays back to back then do not take this during summer. His criteria is very clear and concise.He gives amazing feedback and is willing to look at certain sections of your essay before being turned in. Grade based on 16 weekly discussion posts and 6 essays (2 of which are timed). The final timed essay is based on the required text. Grading is fairly easy however, there is no rubric for essays. Gives very helpful and thoughtful feedback. The class itself isn't necessarily tough but requires much discipline. BE CAUGHT UP ON READINGS!

For those who are non-native and bilingual, I recommend not to take his online class I had a lot of trouble in writing because I had never written a very long essay in English. One thing that I really respect him is that he is very fair in grading criteria and he gives extra credit. which boosted my grade to a B.

An amazing Professor, he always explains everything really good and gives plenty of time to complete the assignments. I failed English last semester, retook it during summer with Prof. Ramshaw. He is so organized with all assignments & provides very clear instructions and examples, he assigns 2 research papers, 2 timed essays and about 3 mini papers. He provides very helpful notes on each graded paper and lets you revise and resubmit some. Overall GREAT Professor

ENGL 101 wasn't easy but wasn't very hard either, more time-consuming than anything (there's a lot to read/write in > a month). Prof. Ramshaw grades & replies to emails quickly. He writes quality criticism. Make sure to follow MLA format to a T otherwise your paper will be docked significantly. It's overall a good class to take over the summer.

Overall a great professor. Cracks some jokes here and there. Gives amazing feedback on essays and research papers. Allows you to leave class early if finished with work. If you want a good English 101 class then it would be this one.

Class is super easier reflecting back after finishing the course, you really do to large essays both are research paper extremely easy after you get the hang of it with the first one you do. At the beginning of intersession he was clear that it would be tough since we'd have to complete a semester of work in four weeks, but he made it pretty easy to get an A by giving feedback on all our rough drafts and letting us rewrite some too. I emailed him all the time he got back to me right away and really seemed to care that I &#8220;got it.&#8221;

It's easy to get a good grade in this class as long as you participate in the discussion boards, but when it comes to essays it requires lots of writing. He provides help tho, and gives a fair amount of time to complete assignments. He is really nice and easy to get along with.

Mr. Ramshaw was a super kind guy, he would always answer emails, he's pretty funny online, and he's super chill. I guess the only critic I would say is that the papers were pretty tough, but that's probably because I was only online, he does make the class pretty easy to pass if you do the work.

Maybe because he's been at SAC for awhile or that his wife is Mexican, but he gets this student population. He doesn't show favoritism or anything like that, but he understands some of our struggles especially now. He's one of the few who always returns emails and gives us great feedback and even lets us revise some papers. Best instructor at SAC.

I would describe his class as "medium" right in the middle of easy and hard because you really get the grade you earn. I got an A! Also, we have discussion boards every week which are fairly easy to respond too. We write a few papers in this course however he gives time to work on them in class and he's always happy to help.
