Very intimidating. He claims he's clear in his notes, but I think he could be much better. Maybe actually go OVER the homework problems with us instead of sending us to the Math Lab.
I agree with the previous rating....very intimitating. Should devote more class time to helping students out with homework.
Hardest math teacher I've ever met.

Bad teacher. Knows his stuff but doesn't know how to teach. Expects us to know everything and doesn't help at all. Arrogant too, thinks hes a math god.
The worst professor that you could find. He is unbeatable at that. He teaches to himself and expects the students to know what he is comming to teach. If you ask him for help he just tell you to go and find it yourself.
dont do it

Expect everyone to know about math. Doesn't explain very good. doesn't answer question very well. office hour doesn't really help. Cause he will try to help you as fast as possible then leave. Too bad he is the only one who teach cal 2, 3.
copy the example in the book, cannot come up his own. When students ask to explain, got stumped. Doesn't really explain. hope he quit
I HATE THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE this guy. He has given me a lot of EXTRA HELP and I have gotten an "A" on all of his tests too! Would you believe he even gave be a bonus! I'm expecting in May!
He eases up when you get higher up in math. He's a much more nicer guy than he was in Calc 1. Still a very hard class though.
If you like math and take his class, you'll hate math.
Is this man insane? First of all he thinks everyone understand math, well guess what buddy....WE DONT. Thats why we are in ur class! Project are unbareable and teaching habits just suck. Cant wait fot calc II next semester with a teacher that is not R
This guy in unreal. No calculators allowed for basic skill tests, and not allowed on the final. Basic skill test? NOthing basic about these things.Wanna hate math and already like it? He is a Dr. after all...so he must know what he is doing...
I have never seen a professor just aquash students as I have seen this one has. If I had to take him again I would change my major. He says he wants you to ask questions but I believe it is only so he can get enjoyment from making you feel stupid.
You have got to be kidding me that this guy is a professor.Unless you take him you wouln't be able to fathom how bad a teacher he is. His class is not difficult, his teaching makes it hard.Trying to get help is like squeezing blood from a stone.
I went to school with Chuck and he's really a fair guy. I don't know how he teaches, it's just tough watching him get blasted like this. Just tell him that your last grade isn't cauchy(pronounced Ko-shee) for Passover and he'll get a kick out of it.

I took Roccas Math 098 class and let me tell you-he is a horrible teacher. He never helped us and if we did ask for help, he made you feel reeeaaallly stupid.. I hate this man..PICK ANOTHER MATH TEACHER-DONT PICK ROCCA!
Never had him for lower level math but for Calc II he was great. Learned a lot, never had problems with his personality. Funny guy with great sense of humor. Makes class fun. Always willing to spend extra time giving help outside of class!

Good sense of humor, goes out of his way to anwser questions and stay late
Dr. Rocca is such an awesome teacher. He makes the class really fun. He is very fair in his grading and helps any student that needs it. Dr. Rocca does not deserve the slanderous comments previously listed.
Ok i dont know how you people are giving this devil of a man good comments..He was very rude and maybe it was because it was a lower class and he didnt fell challenged enough or maybe he thought us all stupid. If u didnt understand he made u feel dumb!!
Dr. Rocca is a good professor. He is NOT the best teacher for the non-math skilled, however, he ALWAYS goes over any questions and he allows students to hand in late homework and labs (for 75%.) Also, he lets everyone take his tests twice and he takes the average of the 2 tests. I recommend him!
Dr. Rocca is more than fair with those who ask for help. Test corrections, turning in late homework for 75%, etc. Went out of his way to make sure some students were getting some concepts. Humorous guy, I also enjoyed going to his class. DO THE ROCCA WAY!!!
Very difficult class, he makes you do many projects and the tests are challenging. he uses the computer (derive and maple) too much too illustrate things but we still have no clue how to do the work. tries to be funny but only sometimes works. try to take it with someone else if possible.
Rocca is great. He really makes things simple so students arent overwhelmed. There is something wrong with you if you can't do well in his class. The only issue with him is that he can't spell for his life. I swear, I had better spelling skills in 4th grade than he currently possesses.
Rude + unhelpful + unclear + demeaning = ROCCA
He is a horrible professor. He cann't get his thoughts clear sometimes. He goes very fast and you barely understand some of the material. I HATE HIM!!!!!!
Gets frustrated easily.
Extremely difficult.. unless you're a math wiz you will more than likely suffer in Rocca's Calculus class.
I really didn't like him. He gave a lot of work and graded really hard.
Class was EXTREMELY HARD! If you are already a math genius and have a 4.0 GPA you might do ok. Other than that, you will struggle the entire semester.
He was a really good teacher sometimes he wasn't clear but if you went had trouble understanding the material he would stay all sorts of office hours to help you understand.
I feel really bad that Dr. Rocca got a bad wrap from some people. He's a really awesome professor. He goes out of his way to help you, (he helps me even though I've been out of his class for 2 yrs). He's a really nice guy and he's funny too.
Dr Rocca is really nice and he goes out of his way to help, but you have to ask for help. I really don't know what possessed people to give him a bad score, but he's really nice. I really hated calc in high school, but Dr. Rocca makes it really easy to understand and I reccomend taking Calc with him. He's the best!!
he is nice, but that's all he has going for him.. he is a demon.. someone should spear his balls.. his grading is so harsh it's like trying to figure out how to hack into the CIA's database.. he will screw you over every chance he gets and he thinks that he is a english teacher.. if you can spear him!!
I love Dr. Rocca and his classes. Really good at relating to the students and often gave "real world" examples!
this class was so retarded . . . he expects that you know everything about everything and gets mad when you ask him stupid questions and gets mad if no one asks him questions at all . . . he grades really harshly and if you have a C, D, or F for the midterm drop it asap cuz he will tell you that you can bring your grade up and you will work mad har
I thought this class was going 2 be easy b/c I am good at math.I really liked calc in high school, but now not so much. The hmwrk is ridiculously hard and he grades it,he lets u ask questions, but kinda beats around the bush when answering them if they deal with the hmwrk. He flies through most of the material...so good luck if u dont understand it.
Very difficult. I did well in AP calc and he destroyed my love of Math. Too much work, no help.
Homwork is a little difficult but the class was overall very informative. I would recommend and take again.
Great guy. Very straightfoward. Decent amount of HW. In your best interest to keep attendence up. He once spelled his name Charales.
He doesn't make anything easy to understand and when you dont he gets mad about it, theres so much homework and projects!
do not-do not-do not take his classes. he is incredibily intelligent but will not make it so that an average student may understand, he juist goes on assuming everyone can process as he does. unless you're a mathamatical genius I would deffinietly steer clear of this man. he think he's funny too...not so much.
This class is real easy if you have any prior skill in math. If you don't try to find another professor. Rocca does not give great extra help during office hours. So if you need 1 on 1 with your professor again find someone new. But if you do take him just do your homework and pay attention and take visits weekly to the math lab or study group.
You need at least an intermediate understanding of higher level algebra to understand the class, but if you do, everything is pretty much straight-forward. I consider Rocca a very intelligent man who knows how to teach what he teaches, and I, for one, find the man hilarious. I would very much recommend Dr. Rocca for anyone in math.
i never took pre-calc in high school, and when i go to his class, i knew nothing he was teaching. he is extremely snotty, very blunt, he gets mad and yells if you don't know the answer. he once called a class a bunch of idiots. he doesn't care if you don't understand, he will not slow down. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM. i withdrew from his awful class
by far, worst teacher ever... does not care if you do well, expects you to know everything already, yells at the class, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
WORST MATH PROFESSOR at WCSU! He doesn't give a crap about his students or if they understand material. He doesn't know how to teach. He is VERY RUDE.Does not give you enough time on exams.Grading is HARSH,and he will make u dread the whole semester.I'm a math major and will never take his classes again.MATH MAJORS AND ANYONE,DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!
If you actually take the time to understand the material, do the reading, and practice before hand (you know...PREPARE like you're supposed to IN COLLEGE), then he's a fantastic professor. Lazy people need not apply. Dr. Rocca is a true professor. This isn't high school. Step up to the big leagues, complainers!
DR. ROCCA CAN TEACH CALCULUS WITH HIS EYES CLOSED. HE GIVES HUGE EXTRA POINT AT THE END BY DOING SOME 10 OF REALLY CHALLENGING QUESTIONS. BUT IF YOU GET 1 CORRECT, THEN YOU GET EXTRA 0.75PT FOR THE FINAL GRADE. I GOT LIKE 3. HE PRETEND TO BE THOUGH BUT HE'S NOT HORRIBLE LIKE PEOPLE SAY. THEY GET SCARED BECAUSE THEY NEVER STUDY ENOUGH FOR ANY CLASS
Dr. Rocca is the man. He's not easy, but if you go to class, and keep up on the studying you'll learn a ton and really know the material after the class is over. If you don't want to learn anything and are looking to waste your time in a do nothing class, take another teacher, also take another teacher if you are lazy.
Rocca is a hard professor, but I think thats a good thing because it means that you'll actually learn in this class. I like this because it means you won't get a dumbed-down education in his class. Just make sure you do the work he asks of you and you'll be fine.
I don't get it! all i see is a bunch of people attacking this Dr. if u don't like math y r u in a math class? personally thank God for this teacher who takes things beyond standard levels. he's tough but that's what makes the class more challenging & makes you look for answers.if u don't want 2 scratch ur brain don't have rocca as a teacher.
Good professor. He goes over everything and his tests are fair and he grades them fairly. They are on what is TAUGHT in class, not what he does not go over in the book.
Dr. Rocca is the best math professor I have ever had. Not because it was an easy class, but because he taught the material very well. I struggled in calc 1 and 2 with other professors. Calc 3 was much easier because of Dr. Rocca. He speaks clearky and grades very fairly. If you are taking higher level math courses I would definitely recommend him.
Excellent teacher. He makes the subject fun and easily understood. He will always work with you and make you understand it. Has a very good style of teaching. He has a way of putting things so you never forget it. Take this teacher, you will never regret it.
Not sure about the section, it was intro to cryptology. Terrible when it comes to teaching. He favors the students in the class who are math nerds and treats everyone else like idiots. Likes to crack jokes that only those who know everything about math will understand. Not helpful if you ask for clarification. Very difficult to pass his class, even for people who love math.
Don't take this class unless you're a genius in math, or one of his favorites. Assigns mountains of homework and will refuse to help you if you come to him. I'm a History major and never had more trouble in a "HISTORY of Mathematics" class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I am a science major and have never got lower than an A in any math class before this. Many of the basic topics are not covered in class. Dr. Rocca is very arrogant as a teacher and acts as if all of his students are below him. When you ask questions or ask for help he makes you feel even dumber than he already made you feel in class. Worst teacher
Pretty good teacher. A little too fast paced but otherwise not bad
He was funny and entertaining at times, but I pretty much taught myself the entire course from the book.
I must say, Dr. Rocca is absolutely incredible! I have never learned more in a class than I did in Dr. Rocca's Class. I took Calculus I over the summer a couple of years ago with Dr. Rocca. He is very clear and precise when he explains Mathematical topics. He is very skilled and he knows what he is talking about.
This class was taught for the first time this semester it was very hard and by that i mean he made this class harder than it should have been. Moves way too fast and only cares if some students in the class get it(Super Smart Math students) doesnt really care about the rest. Disorganized class and i pray they find a new teacher for this class
Just Avoid, if you can, if your not a Math "God"
Dr. Rocca can move kind of fast sometimes, however he's pretty good at explaining the material clearly so it balances. His grading policy and late-work policy is the best. As long as you turn assignments in on time you can redo them for a better grade, he accepts most late work and if you don't pass the test (they're passfail) you can retake it.
Dr. Rocca didn't understand that this class was a level 100 and therefore not being taken by a math major. I found that he can be rude when answering a student's question. This class seemed much harder than I anticipated it to be. He expects you to have thorough answers for all the work you hand in.
Rocca is great! I am TERRIBLE at math, but I took his Great Ideas in Math class & not only was it really interesting and fun, I got a B. He prepares you well for all the tests, and takes late hw all the way up until the end of semester (which definitely saved me.) He likes to joke with his students and is really personable, and always happy to help
knows his calculus, but sometimes a bit forgetful on his basic arithmetic. Assigns a hefty amount of (do-able) homework, if you need help go to his office or Math Clinic. Quizzes are straight from the book, so keep up with that. Tests are not that hard if you follow along in class, he allows retakes.
Dr. Rocca is a smart guy. I took him awhile ago for Great Ideas in Math, and though some challenging topics (I'm NOT a math person), he knew what he was talking about and was patient with the class. He's friendly and can joke around but is a bit of a tough grader. I had a pretty neutral-positive experience with him as a professor.
The man is horrid in how the class is ran. The class revolves around doing the same procedure over and over which would only be one or two questions on the test and homework assignment. He expects 6 hr out of class a week and expects you to use it on the homework assignment all due on the day of the exam but you'll use it to teach yourself.
Summer class, 5 days a week for 5 weeks. Charismatic lecturer, but could be more organized. LOVES math and will go on tangents. 5 tests weren't horrible and there were opportunities to get points back. First test was review of Calc 1, a freebie. Homework is brutal application problems and proofs. I felt like I did B level work but got an A-
Way too many assignments. Some weeks I'd have a reading and video response, an essay, long HARD projects which were exceedingly time-consuming and stupid hard for nothing, and then maybe a discussion thing. Way too much when also being a music ed major. The teacher was very rude, kind of an ass. You couldn't pay me to take this class again. Awful.
Clearly very knowledgeable and smart. He has overall good energy and sometimes funny. You NEED to pay attention in class. Tests are mid-tier but he gives solid opportunities to bring grades up. Negatives would be that he teaches pretty fast and the day after a test he spends way too much time scolding about common mistakes. but overall a good guy
You'll definitely have to pay attention to his lectures, but he tries to make them as interesting and fun as he can. As a math major, he is my favor professor at the school.
He has dislike for some students and shows it. Very hard to learn math when you know the teacher doesn't like you. I am trying to avoid taking classes with him for that reason. If he doesn't like you personally, its unlikely you will pass
He's cool but super lecture-oriented. Could fall asleep in that class. He doesn't care if you are not present, it's more that you'd be doing yourself wrong by missing.
Professor Rocca seems like a good guy outside of class. But inside of class, he is a complete jerk. He gets annoyed very easily. He will belittle students when they ask questions. He is a complete "know it all." He teaches very fast and doesn't teach everything that is on the homework and tests. Be prepared to teach yourself Precalc.
Doing homework is a big part of your success. He can be kind of rude to students who seem lazy and slow... he doesn't have any patience for people who ask pointless questions or never raise their hand at all. He has a dry sense of humor, but as long as you show decent effort, he will like you. Passing the class is straightforward and practical.
He will encourage you to drop the class. Dr. Rocca doesn't use a textbook which makes the class 10 times harder and excepts you to know everything from algebra II and geometry coming in. Probably one of the worst professors I had in the Fall 2024 semester. Don't take this class if you value your sanity and GPA.
