i just want to say that he talks korean in classes
He doesn't speak english..but i love him..he is soooo nice
can't speak english and his examples miss too many steps
Very difficult to understand, goes too fast, and doesn't speak english
Great prof for Calculus, he always writes what he says on the board

Very Consistent, straight to the point
Teaches very well, but speaks english awfully. Has a different accent each time.

so, why don't you try to do some kinda thing like this -I love it when he says this, its so funny. He is helpfull but he needs to improve his communication skills, sometimes you just don't understand what he means.
Very good prof, helps all the time, always smiles, never boring, knows his stuff.
Great teacher, explains really well and helps if ask. Friendly. Has an accent but I got used to it.
Much better than Ferrando I'll say. He's a nice guy overall. Gives you examples and time to do them. He's very clear in terms of detail in his lectures. Just get past his accent and you'll be fine.

once you get past the accent he is a great prof
worst calculus professor ever. I had 2 4-hour classes a week with him and he left over an hour each time. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! if you get his class, just stay home and read the textbook and you'll be better off
Exellent Calculus prof. He actually prepares you for xams and test. He has bit of an accent, but you get use to it .
HE IS ONE OF THE BEST TECHACHERS THAT I EVER HAD
I was originally with Ferrando.. after the first lecture, I stopped going to his lectures and I attended Dr. Kim instead. If it weren't for Dr. Kim, I wouldn't have received my A+ in that class. Thank you, Dr. Kim!
Very good marker.........very understanding.
Very good professor, he prepares you well for the test. He goes a bit fast but his examples are excellent
Excellent professor. Very thorough and very quick. Expalins everything to the easiest form of understanding. Grades very fairly and is very demonstrative. READ HIS NOTES AND EXAMPLES and you are sure to PASS this course.
Although he doesn't speak well, he's a really good prof with really good notes.
this was the 2nd time i took the course...and with him...i actually understood it...if u get him, stay...if u dont...try to be in his class...ull be very glad that u did
He's a good prof. Just the accent thats a problem.
awsome
The Best Calculus Prof at Ryerson. Very organised teaching. He knows what to teach and how to teach it. Prepares you very well for the exam. You will never feel sleepy in his class.
knows his stuff inside out, funny prof.. made the couse enjoyable
Best prof I've ever had! Funny and extremely helpful!
good prof, provides additional problems
Best prof I have ever had...really helpful. Make sure you are in his section.
best prof yet. his class was jokes. watch out for flying chalk.
great prof, he knows everything n hes there 4 the extra help. had fun in his class... chopping apple was the best, watch out guys, he brings his knife 2 the class, hahhahaha
Explains the material very well and I had lots of fun in his classes
He is just a way good teacher. he is so cool and funny i just love his accent. He has a little korean accent but you understand well. Overall one of the best;)
BEST CALC TEACHER OUT THERE. Took this course again... Went from an F to an A. This prof is awesome..watch out for flying chalk and diagrams on your back ;) Attend this class, you won't regret it! Makes everything look easy.
BEST CALC PROF @ RYERSON!! He presents the material in an organized and clear way. Shows a lot of funny demos. Oh, Yes and the best thing about his classes is "in a minute why don't you try this". He actually gives us time to try problems. If it wasn't for him i wouldn't have gotten an A in MTH312.
He is one of the best teachers at Ryerson. He is a funny accent but I like it. I wish I see him again in upper years.
Nice Prof ! Very Organised ! Great Sense of Humour ! Skips the breaks sometimes ! Sometimes finishes an hour early ! Knows the stuff inside-out. Notes are extremely good ! Nice accent ! Negaaaative !!!! lol !!! Dont sit in the front with food. He will eat it !!!!

Simply the best prof. ever. Explains things properly, you will learn a lot just by attending the class, very useful notes, defenetly knows his stuff. Haven't had anybody teaching any course better than him yet! Get to his class 15 min. early or you may not find a seat.
Very concise in his lectures, but moves VERY quickly. He has a nasty habbit of squeezing things around the whiteboard, but you get use to it after a while. It seems that all the students know he's a good prof, so get to class early. It's a tough course though, I am just glad I had Kim.
KIM is my favourite prof in ryerson. i dun skip his classes cox they are all great. U know how u need to read yr book again when u do hw at home, but with Kim,u dun need to. I understand everyth in class and he makes it so interesting.
Dr. Kim is very kind and helpful. He is an excellent teacher and also great mentor. If you need an advice regatding your study or job, he is the right person to ask.
Best prof @ ryerson. If your taking these courses, get in his section. Will make course material very easy to learn.
VERY GOOD PROFESSOR.
he knows stuff he's teaching. A bit hasty tho, u really have to pay attention in class , otherwise u'll be lost after 5 mins
He is super! You have to take MTH 312 with him to prepare Field Theory. He is very kind and nice to students, too.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Very precise and knows what he is teaching. Uses humour from time to time to lighten the mood. EXCELLENT!
He is a very good teacher, He knows his stuff and gives good examples,he gives some challenging questions in tests,i really liked him although i didn't see him that much as i went to class like 5 times all the semester lol, no but seriously, if u have chulkim for on of your courses, u can condsider yourself so lucky.....
He is a good prof but the problem is that He teaches fast...if u miss anything then u totally miss the remain class
He is an excellent teacher. I enjoyed his cal 1 and 2 classes. I have learned pretty much and confident in my math skill. I am ready for the second year.
you can considered yourself lucky if you have his class.pretty fast, challenging test, humorous, fun and doing some practical method to explain the idea of integral. he is using stuff that we can always remember and he is very helpful. I would definetely like to have another of his class. he is very interesting.
Excellent professor. Don't let his accent and demeaner fool you, he is a very clever man with a good sense of humour and knows his stuff very well and knows how to teach it very well too! He is a fair marker, entertains any question and is very approachable. Definately the go-to prof for any calculus course!
He goes fast and is difficult to understand. But he lays the math out in very logical steps.
He is an excellent teacher; kind, helpful and devotional. There will be no problem to understand his lecture even his accent.
KIM is THE MAN. He's so smart and easily the funniest man alive. Everything he says is hilarious!!! I LOVE THIS GUY!
He is simply the best. He makes advanced math looks so easy. if you attend his lectures you wouldn't need to study much for the exams, because you get the whole subject in the class.
I love this man, if i was a girl id have his babies, he's just that good, i dont know of one person who doesnt like him. Awesome proffesor, keep it up, hope to have you in other courses.
omg omg omg..........best teacher ever - nuff said!!!!!!!!!!!!
best prof ever!
He can be a bit hard to understand at times, but he knows what he is doing and is hilarious. He's very into what he's doing and hammers through the content. It was all I could do to keep up. Overall, one of my favs tho.
not bad so far
"Integration by parts is... you know NSA is National Security Agency. Some other words for that are No Such Angencies. What else is there? ...Well, it doesn't matter. *erases* Now, integration by parts is..." Knows his stuff and randomly throws in jokes you'd never expect. Definitely take this prof!
He is by far the most fair, intelligent (more so genius), and good humored professor I know. His lectures are clear and precise, each topic builds up to the next. His Midterms are brutal, but they inevitably push you to use what he has taught you, not just memorize it, this is knowledge you'll keep.
Most of midterm questions were in the assigned HW list.
Knows his stuff, willing to help, funny. Definitely recommended.
He teaches great! and he is soooooo funny!
BEST EVER!!! SO FUNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Just wanted thank you for being such a good professor. I really enjoyed your classes and the way you treated people is amazing. You are one of the most amazing professors in Ryerson. I had both MTH312 and 240 last year with you and I enjoyed my time as your student.
He keeps things as simple as possible, funny and quite easy. His explanation is quite good despite of his accent, and give a lot of examples in class, a funny prof, I like him
He keeps things as simple as possible, funny and quite easy. His explanation is quite good despite of his accent, and give a lot of examples in class, a funny prof, I like him
He's such a great prof. I like the way he teaches, clear and easy to understand. He's the best prof for me. and he's funny too! Too bad I don't have him for Calculus 2. :(
I didn't get a chance after the exam to thank you for a great semester. I really liked your lecture layout, topics were organized and neat, and also the fact that you came to class and didn't waste time.......i think your right when you said that our time is very important to us....thanks again.
the best calculus prof ever.. i still remember the first day when i went to class and i did NOT even understand one bit of wat he was sayin.. he was goin SOO fast.. but he gives lots of examples and u will understand... and later on u will get used to the way he talks too.. he is also really funny.. and listen to the way he says "Integral" haha..
best prof ever .. and extremely funny :)
The Best Calculus Prof at Ryerson. Very organised teaching. He knows what to teach and how to teach it. Prepares you very well for the exam. You will never feel sleepy in his class.
This course starts very nicely and then suddenly Goes Tooooooooo Fast...Prof is very orgranised and systematic. But by the time u understand the current topic he is doing - he already finishes the next 2 topics as well. Does too many examples, but whats the point when u dont get time to understand it!
Where are you, Professor Kim?We miss your excellent teaching and personality.
Excellent prof, really knows his stuff. Replaced by Dr. Jung due to medical leave. Left some big shoes to fill.... new prof not nearly as organized or knowledgeable
this guy was ok at teaching. but i dont get why he introduced probably the worst substitute in the world after he was gone! im talking about the lady...she tried to fail all the students i guess.
One of the best profs at ryerson. Explains everything very clearly. Unfortunately he left half way and the substitute prof was terrible at teaching.
The worst prof I have ever had. Seems nice during lectures, but is terrible when remarking the tests, even if it is clear that you should have received the marks he will find a way to not give them to you. He doesn't care about his students at all. If you want to do well in MTH240 DO NOT take this prof, he will find a way to mess you up.
Hard to understand his accent. Does not explain in a clear manner.
the best calculus prof ever.. i still remember the first day when i went to class and i did NOT even understand one bit of wat he was sayin.. he was goin SOO fast.. but he gives lots of examples and u will understand... and later on u will get used to the way he talks too.. he is also really funny..
This professor is amazing. He teaches very well and tries his best to prepare you for advanced calculus. The course itself is obviously difficult, but he tries to make it as clear as possible.Very helpful prof. make sure u go to his class. He makes sure u understand the topic.
the greatest prof at ryerson, really clear on what he's doing, helpful, and knows the stuff from top of his head, really smart proff, he s funny too. listen to him and focus on the examples given on the lectures.
Very very helpful prof..very clear and keeps you intrested all the time.
He's the best prof. I've ever had. He does his job excellent and can explain the stuff very good. He's examples in calss are very usefull and you don't need a text book if you read your notes.
He is an amazing professor. Really cares for students, teaches the material well. He gives quizzes in the beginning of each class, which prepare you for the midterms. Take him if you have the chance.Best prof I have had so far!
Dr. Kim is a legend. A tremendous prof who is very organized. Prepares you very well for tests with his examples and gives quizzes at the beginning of each class. Do what ever you can to try and attend his classes even if he isnt your own prof on your timetable. His classes were the only classes who didnt have a high dropout.
He was the only prof in cal using Tablet PC to present. Such colorful lecture made me easy to understand. He used apple, cinnamon roll, bagel and tim horton cups for volume formulas. I had good course.
he s good prof, but not the best
Marking is done by TA based on a marking scheme. The average was about 60%. Bell curving?
this professor is the best in understanding the students he has an overall good professor student connection thing. we enjoyed his classes and many students from different sections attended his class!!
Harsh Marker especially in the final exam.
Expects a lot by giving hard midterms and exams. But a very bad teacher so have to learn on own.
Dr Kim is awesome. I didn't have him but I always attended his lectures and got through it. Actually my favourite Math Professor.
Keeps the class interesting. I love the demonstrations that he does in class. His notes are very clear and helpful.
Great teacher! Excellent background in math and a very helpful guy.
the greatest prof at ryerson, really clear on what he's doing, helpful, and knows the stuff from top of his head, really smart prof, he is funny too. listen to him and focus on the examples given on the lectures. i wished i had him on all my classes.
Chul Kim messed up my life for two years. I had him for 3 different maths courses and he failed me every time but later re-took the courses with a different professor and got a good mark. He is very bad at explaining and makes things seem very complicated. I do not recommend anyone to take his class. Switch to a different section if you have him.
He is a good prof. His notes are quite good, and he does a lot of helpful examples in class. He helps you a lot and does questions from the textbook to make you understand better so that you can do the textbook questions. His tests are based on the assignments and going to his lectures helps you out a lot. Ovareall I learned a lot from him.
He made be a better mathematician and was clear and helpful. Best math teacher I have ever had. Stick to his notes, learn them and you will be fine.
He’s very approachable, kind, passionate about the topic. He goes out of his way to make sure students understand the material and is clear about what he excepts. He really knows what he's talking about and he listens to his students concerns and takes them into consideration. Amazing prof overall, I enjoyed the class.
He's amazing, funny and intelligent. He tells you exactly what he wants and if you do it you will get an A in this class.
One of the best profs in my first semester. His classes are interesting, mixed with subtle jokes and humour that other calc profs just lack. Makes the material look like kindergarten stuff and I actually felt like going to his 8am classes.
Kim is awesome and a good professor but only when you are able to understand what he is saying. He can be really fast, but goes out of the way when some students can't follow. Notes and Homework problems are your solutions in getting a good mark in this course. I would recommend you guys to go to his office hours as it is very helpful.
He gives hard midterms and exam! and he will never help before exam! nothing from his review will come in exam!! I do not recommend anyone to take with him!
He is a great prof, clear and straight to the point. Midterms are are on a fair level to slightly challenging one , but he will take the time to make sure you understand the material. As for the exams if you do any of his reviews you will be fine.
Base kim came through with the final exam and gave my ass a B+ when I failed the midter. #Ryehigh
This man is a Korean god. His lectures are helpful (A bit hard to understand at first, but you get used to his accent), his examples are amazing, and you leave understanding more than when you went in. I cannot express strongly enough that this man is amazing. And you need to go to his classes to do well.
great professor, engaging as well as entertaining. it was best eng class.
Consistently had difficulty understanding his accent and notes could be fairly messy at times but like any class, his is passable. A good teacher makes it easier for the student to do well but that being said having a bad teacher doesnt make it impossible.
Excellent Calculus prof. He actually prepares you for exams and test. He has bit of an accent, but you get use to it. Simply the best prof. ever. Explains things properly, you will learn a lot just by attending the class.
Very nice guy, and quite witty too. He does move a little fast in his lectures, however his notes and examples are quite good.
He is a really good Prof. He is really nice and helpful when asked. Pretty easy marker, would raise your marks if the class average is lower than average.MUST USE textbook! Many question on the exams are from textbook (sometimes exact same)!
Attendance is pointless; you can learn through the txtbook. Goes so fast like hes talking to himself. Has an accent but youll get used to it. Notes are sometimes illegible and uses acronyms to shorten words so pay attention. Midterms were hard but exam had EXACTLY the same questions from txtbook+midterms. He bellcurves which really saved my mark.
He's amazing, funny and intelligent. He uses a variety methods to demonstrate the concepts, eg apple, donuts and coffee cups . Using a tablet with projector is probably the best way to write math notes. He gives ample explanations and answers questions. He replies my e-mails in two or three hours always.
Like alot of math professors he has a strong accent and teachers very fast, notes are not posted online and it's hard to pay attention to what he's saying while struggling to take notes. He writes notes his own way and they can be a bit confusing to follow when reading it over, however whenever someone asks a question in class he CLEARLY explains.
Highly recommended Maths pro !!! Humorous, more handsome than pic above. Helpful, easygoing, kind. Got A+ easily especially for those have some basic calculus skills. Considerate, may post answers with proof online for test questions, reply e-mails quickly.
For mth140 and mth240 midterm and exam questions are basically the same as previous years. 140 becomes difficult right at the end and 240 was a breeze. His in-class examples are GREAT! Go to all of the lectures and pay full attention and you will barely need to open the textbook; I never did, not even once. I received a B in 140 and A+ in 240.
The course goes by really quickly. His lectures go very fast and you may need to use the textbook to remember what you did in lecture. The content is much more difficult that the first year maths but overall Chul makes it a pretty easy course
You can tell he tries hard, but I find he goes very fast, his writing is messy and he is sometimes hard to understand. The worst though are the tests, they are very difficult but usually end up being bellcurved a bit. I may be wrong, but I got the sense he gives out harder tests then previous profs. Also, the practice tests are easier then the real
Very helpful prof. Make sure u go to his class. He makes sure u understand the topic. He knows his stuff and his lecture is very well-organized. Lecture sketch makes 3 hours long class easier. If u skip 1 or 2 lectures, u may not catch up and what u don't understand is the material itself, not his accent. Overall best prof I had.
he is a very good prof. he tries his best to do the job. exams are from the recommended problems. his notes has the full details you need to know but useless if u dont do the recommended problems !!
Chul Kim is a very good professor and tries to help out his students as much as possible. En contre, the course itself is very hard and poorly structured! Not enough time is giver to cover all the topics, so Kim just flies though the lecture. Attend the lecture and take notes. DO the homework and ask him questions about it.(no solution are given)
His lecture notes are amazing, I barely used the examples in the textbook. Don't miss class, I rather go through his lecture notes than the textbook. He does bell-curve. Remember to pay attention in class, reviewing the notes alone would be easier. He's fast so it's easy to fall behind.
Not very good at teaching. Moves through the lectures so fast that you don't even have enough time to copy; forget trying to understand the material. Doesn't even post lecture notes. Exams are hard. Hard to understand.
I was already really good at math. He increased everyones marks up due to the fact that everyone basically failed. I used Khan Academy to teach myself most of the material. His writing is pretty bad and its worse because he writes really fast at the same time. If your not willing to try than you will fail no doubt.
He's such a great prof. I like the way he teaches, clear and easy to understand. He's the best prof for me and funny too! Too bad I don't have him for Calculus 2.
First few class periods I could not understand him with the accent, but then you get used to it! He's an amazing professor. STUDY. Do the homework, study, and make an effort to get a good grade. He teaches the material really well. Had him for MTH207 and MTH 310 and loved both.
He's a great professor who enjoys teaching and cares for his students. His classes are amazing, he covers so much material and simplifies it. Go to all his lectures and you'll be set for the midterms and final. Great sense of humor, too
An amazing math prof! Very knowledgeable and easily approachable. MTH 240 was the best math course I have ever taken due to the enthusiasm, clarity and helpfulness of Professor Kim.
Very helpful. Really knows how to teach. Very friendly. Brilliant prof.
Difficult to understand his accent at times, some methods that he teaches are unessesarily more complicated then others
Dr. Kim teaches in a simple and clear language, showing all the steps. I find his teaching is very effective. He used an apple to illustrate volume concepts made class really fun.
He is awesome, knowledgeable and has a n amazing personality. Very enthusiastic and very helpful!
Very enthusiastic and passionate prof. He explains everything step by step. You will learn a lot from him.
Each lecture was very helpful and valuable. His demonstration with props was very helpful to understand course materials.
Good notes, explains clearly.
First few class periods I could not understand him with the accent, but then you get used to it! If you miss couple of his lectures, definitely you could understand the material, not his accent. Midterms and exam were came from homeworks exactly.
First few class periods I could not understand him with the accent, but then you get used to it! If you miss couple of his lectures, definitely you could not understand the material, not his accent. Midterms and exam were came from homeworks exactly.
The way he taught the course was very effective. I felt that his teaching skills were very thorough and am able to grasp the concepts very quickly. He genuinely cared about the class.
He is a really good professor who knows how to make the class interesting and engaging. He explains the course material in a way that we understand.
Showing up for class makes the material easier to understand. Never copy out of solution manual for majority of lab questions. You NEED actual practice with problems. His speech can be unclear but open your ears and try to listen to what he says. Barely any part-marks for exam. Pre-labs are LONG and will take forever but DO THEM!
Dr. Kim is a great math professor, I would say even more the Alvarez. His test questions literally come out of the homework so if you understand what you're doing there then your set. Homework is due at the beginning of every lab and is marked which is a bit of a pain but keep you on track to do well in his course. I would highly recommend!
He has an awesome teaching style and is funny, tries to get students to understand those concepts and let students practice important problems. Go to lectures that is important. Tests and Exam are pretty hard but based on homeworks.
He is humorous and knowledgeable. It is visible that he is trying to teach the students so that it benefits the students. Well taught, enthusiastic and respectable!
His accent might a difficult to understand, at first, but you get used to it. To get the most out of him, focus on how he explains and describes a problem and how he solves it; his solving methodology is systematic, simple and easy. He also started every lecture with a review which was great! Don't fixate yourself on the accent, he's very good!
Dr. Kim is a fantastic prof who is kind, understanding, and helpful. Do the assigned homework questions and you are golden.
Passionate about the material, hence the lectures were very interesting. Always used to look forward to his classes. Makes the most difficult concepts so easy to understand by demonstrations. Lecture notes are very helpful!
such a sweet sweet thoughtful guy, hes special. Cares a lot about his students
Best prof hands down. he has a great sense of humor. it ma be a little hard to get used to his accent, but once u get past that, he is OP
Quality prof 10/10 would retake course just to see his face
He posted his excellent lecture notes after 3 weeks according to students' requests!
Prof. Chul had a review session, which was the last lecture, and many office hours before the test 3. His lecture note was easy to follow and very valuable for the test 3, like his interesting and enjoyable lectures. Do you remember the apple to calculate its volume?
Lectures are hard to follow, class moves very fast. Is funny at times, but still boring for the most part. First midterm was cancelled because they couldn't find rooms, moving the content to the second midterm, and increased the weighting. Second midterm (our only midterm) was hard, and the final was challenging
The course materials were very heavy. It was not prof's fault. His lecture notes were very helpful. Questions in the exam were same to the assigned homework questions.
Although his pacing may not be suitable for everyone, he gives a lot of good examples for his students to work with. If you understand the concepts better by working through a lot of examples, then he's a great professor!
Extremely boring cant understand half the things he says his revesion periods are helpful if your trying to fail. last 3 weeks his classes are half ful everyone goes to majids class . if you decide to take classes with him, you got to depend completely on yourself.
great prof and extremely approachable. extremely clear but can be a little quick some times. one of the few profs that actually followed the advice he received from the faculty survey. really cares about his students.
Dr. Kim makes Calculus so fun. He does review examples every class and really cares about his students. Pay attention and use his amazing lecture note (posted on D2L) and you will get an A.
He has a lot of good stories about his teaching experience and his calculus 1 teaching was very good. He taught everything very clearly and used lots of diagrams and examples in explanations.
Really good teacher, you won't hear a peep in the lectures since he is strict on that, which is good for learning. Explanations are clear and precise, gives great examples of problems, and when the rare times he opens up to you it's so interesting to hear what he did in the past with math and the various places he taught. He's passionate about math
He's incredibly sweet and thoughtful, very rarely have i seen profs be this caring towards students.
Hes a great guy overall. sometimes is hard to understand, and does go fast, so for that maybe just use Youtube to understand the material but the examples he gives us are legendary and good to work with. He also does quizzes at the beginning of each class going over the material from the previous class which is really help ful
His lectures are a mess, he goes through examples without even explaining what the theory is or what its used for, he talks very fast and is pretty confusing. Most of his lectures are a headache cause you can't focus.
Dr. Kim makes Calculus so fun. He does review examples every class and really cares about his students. Pay attention and use his amazing lecture note and you will get an A.
Avoid him
The worst prof ever. Don't take any classes with him.
This prof gets the job done . His handwriting is not too clear and his explanation is not too clear but he is still good to learn the basic concepts even though you will still need to search for other sources to get the required knowledge .
Horrible professor who doesnt care about you and cant do a simple task of answering emails. Is very rude and dry when talking to him and never has time for students, not clear on what he wants. Hard to understand what he wants and follow along with him in class. He tells us he will help us if we attend his class since no one does but he doesnt.
Absolute worst coordinator and prof ever. Very unorganized when it comes to creating tests, doesn't reply back to emails ever, no clear instructions when making the midterm leaving everyone confused (told us the first one was designed to be impossible to finish initially). His rating is too high he sucks.
One of the nicest profs out there ! His teaching is very clear and understandable.
Absolute worst prof I ever had. Can't even explain simple concepts. I'm so sorry for anyone who has him in the future. Switch out as quickly as possible.
Bro just try to get Majed this guy is not a real prof When mans were going to majeds class instead of his he started crying about the attendance since no one was attending and tried scaring students about some attendance portion which didnt even work loooool Takes 3+ weeks to respond to emails too. Total bust
Prof Kim is not great. I've never had such a frustrating time with a prof. He takes weeks to get back to urgent emails and was very unclear with test instructions for the majority of the semester. Luckily, Majed was teaching so it wasn't an issue as much. I'm sure he's a decent guy, but there are much better options.
He's a great guy, but his lectures are super boring and when you ask him to explain something really simple, he says its an insult towards you and doesn't explain it... I stopped going to his lectures since he goes super fast and barely explains it sometimes.
The prof is a nice guy but he doesnt know how to teach . His lectures are very messy and arent clear at all. Whenever you ask a question he doesnt answer it because he says it is an insult. Another bad thing is that he teaches very quickly and that isnt ideal for new concepts.
The worst prof ever!
Amazing prof. He's great at teaching the material and his tests and quizzes are very fair.
Have you ever seen his apple slice to illustrate the concept of integral? Had a great time at the MTH 140. What is the volume of Tim Horton's bagels? Along with the taste of the donuts he handed out, I remember his great jokes from the MTH 140 lecture. It was fun.
UNORGANIZED!!!! His lecture notes are soooo unorganized and he doesnt record his lectures so if you miss his class you wont understand anything from the notes. Doesnt take time to answer questions and I really didnt like his way of teaching. His lectures were confusing and he skipped soo many steps.
He was excellent! I missed his well-organized, comfortable, enjoyable lectures.
I had Kim for MTH140, MTH240 and MTH312 and got good grades. As long as you attend classes for the pop quizzes and attend the labs, you'll do great. I never had time to do all the homework but the labs saved me a lot and the TA's are super helpful. His tests and quizzes are very fair. I used to find calculus extremely difficult but not anymore :)
Amazing prof! He loves teaching and making jokes :) Attended his lectures and listen carefully! he goes over all the edge cases
Kim was very unclear and messy when teaching. It's very difficult to understand the concepts from him. Watch YouTube instead and do the practice questions before the test. He doesn't record his lectures so it's mandatory to attend. I always get lost with the concepts and I couldn't understand him properly.
I took the class online and warning: he does not record the lectures. So must attend every lecture. His lecture is very organized, I love how at the beginning of each lecture he reviews the previous one. He is pretty funny and he makes calculus a little more fun.
He seems to really like teaching. Takes attendance and does pop quizzes but they're not for marks. Does a lot of practice questions which help a lot. His notes are unorganized so go to class to understand what's what as he doesn't record his lectures.
He is humorous and knowledgeable of the lectures. Very Well Taught, enthusiastic and respectable. He is trying to teach the students so that it benefits the students. This course helped me change my thought on mathematics.
He makes Vector Calculus so fun. He does review examples every class and really cares about his students. Pay attention during the lectures and use his amazing lecture note. If you were attending every class, the lecture notes would be precious.
GOAT Math Professor. He explained every concept very clearly and his proofs were always so mind blowing. He taught me for MTH140, MTH240 and MTH312 and without him, calculus wouldn't be so easy to understand. He has a slight accent but I got used to it after a class. He uses simple, understandable language. Highly recommend!
Great professor that makes learning fun. Lectures can get confusing at times but he is always open to questions.
Kim is very fair with marking. He explains things well but it can be a little difficult to understand him. Solid choice if there's nobody better.
Could barely understand what he was saying and it wouldn't have been a problem if he didn't skim through material so fast or if he tried to keep things more interesting. Never posts lecture recordings.
Dr. Kim was a great professor, his lectures were great. You can take him for 207 with no doubts.
Accent a little thick but generally a good professor. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Kim is one of the loveliest people I have ever encountered in my life. He is caring, nice, and just awesome. His notes are organized and really help you with the content. He also sounds like Appa in Kim's convenience which makes this class more fun. I have 20000 Kim coins and will buy a house with it :)
Kim's very likeable. He has an accent, but his lectures are really good and engaging. Try to attend all the lectures, he goes really fast near the end so you'll fall behind, but he posts recordings and you can also catch up with the textbook.
uhh the first midterm was kinda....
This prof has a very old school way of teaching. His lecture notes are very messy and you will find yourself just reading the textbook more than actually going to the lectures even though they're mandatory if you want full credit. The course itself is not difficult but the content is tedious which makes the exams long and easy to mess up. :/
Sure he has kind of a garbage personality but it wasn't THAT hard. Bare ppl overreacting.
the best prof ever
Professor Kim was a likeable person but his teaching method wasn't the greatest with him speeding through course material. His lecture slides were very messy and difficult to review which meant you had to really on the textbook to fullly grasp what was being taught. His test were difficult and the marking scheme was bad.
He's a funny and charismatic person, who tries to curve people to help them pass, but his teaching style can be difficult to understand. Having mandatory zoom attendance for lectures doesn't help, and they even contribute to marks, which can either be a free 5 percent depending on your ability to consistently go to 6 P.M. Calculus lectures
If you don't take a class and look at the lecture notes later, you can't understand it. Lecture notes are used with lectures. If you don't study right then and want to study later, it's better to look at the textbook. I made my own notes while listening to the class, and in that case, the posted lecture notes were very useful.
Don't listen to the people who keep saying things like, "Best prof ever" and stuff like that. They write those reviews cause of the professors recent curve. This rating is a scam, he's not as good as you think he is, but he ain't the devil either. Put in the work, use yt, and other sources like Paul's Math notes, and expect a difficult first test.
Cant get students attention. Feels like he's just trying to solve a few qs in class and get out. Can't explain properly. Rating is a lie.
His accent is hard to understand at times but he is hilarious and always willing to help & answer questions. Pay attention & study hard and you will have a good time. :)
its true that he is a caring and hilarious and very respected as a knowledgeable person however, very thick accent almost not understandable. extremely messy notes will make learning this course really harder than it should be. I had to get another profs notes in order to understand the material.
I do not agree with you. His lecture note is well organized and easily understandable as far as you attend in his lecture. His accent is not a big deal because he has written on his lecture note all important steps at the same time. Open your mind to be successful in your life.
Chul Kim is the greatest calculus professor of all time. Lecture notes? Highly organized. Boring? Definitely not. Shiny head? Absolutely. Beware of lots of textbook problems, however, they are the bare minimum for understanding. It's well known that the royal road to mathematics is practicing lots of problems. Anyways, the course was alright.
Not the most engaging professor. Very kind and helpful but lectures proved to be a waste of time.
Very good prof but show up to class prepared for the lecture and DONT space out or youll be completely lost. Very good at explaining examples but skips elementary steps. MUST have a solid background in mth140 to be successful in Kim's lectures. Kim is very accommodating on his personal time.
Lecture notes were messy so they were hard to read. Better off learning from youtube. L course coordinator.
If you can pay attention during the lectures, they are pretty good, and his notes are understandable. However, if you zone out or skip, you are better off learning using another professor's notes and youtube. Overall he tries his best to ensure students are as prepared as possible.
He is definitely the best professor teaching MTH207.
Could not understand what he wrote, what he said or what he is trying to explain ever. I learned this course with the help of a TA and myself.
very kind prof, but unfortunately his lectures only provide a very basic understanding of the topic and not at all helpful for the actual tests. 2 tests were online and exam in person. the long answer questions were super hard w just lecture material. if you want to pass i suggest using the textbook to learn how to answer questions.
Please take Dzung Ha instead! Kim overall is a very kind and decent prof, but he only provides basic concepts and does not teach how to use them for midterms.
Trash
No clue what man said entire time. Good prof
"COMPANY, OPTIMIZE! MAXIMIZE THE PROFIT! So that's the optimization questions, and in nuclear war we have limited resources of the combat forces, the armors, guns, airplanes. Under that restriction, we would like to have proper deploy of the military, to win the game!" - Chul Kim, Winter 2023
Can barely understand him, seems like a nice guy.
Goes through a lot of practice problems in class. Midterms/test are difficult however he marks fairly, since the class did really bad on the midterm he made us solve the questions again in the lab and then on the final made us redo 2 exact questions from the midterm and added the additional grades as a boost for the midterm marks.
Dr. Kim is really nice and a great teacher. Has a bit of a heavy accent but overall still is a great prof. He (or maybe it was just the course coordinator lol) did this thing where they put midterm questions on the final and that really boosted my grade. He is sweet and one of the better lecturers for calc at TMU.
Lectures are very low energy but I can commend him for his clear love of what he's teaching. The real issue lies in how blindsided you'll be by his tests. Midterms and final are incredibly difficult compared to everything you do in class, in the weekly labs, and in homework. It's like you have no idea what's coming with the tests. Do not recommend.
Worst prof at TMU
Really boring lectures, he doesn't care about students understanding lectures and then for some reason tries to make the tests harder every year and doesn't offer any support or lecture hall previous to a test. Would not recommend.
Don't be fooled by 5-star reviews. This is the WORST professor for this course which is to be basics of high-school level calculus, and this goes a long way because, touch wood, as I write I can breeze through asymptotic and divergent integrals but this basic one? NOPE. You will be restricted by time per question, and the space given to solve it.
His tests are for you to do poorly, including the fact that he lies that if you do his in class and lab questions, you will do really good, but you WONT. You will have 1 one-sided paper to write, and on it, to do 1st and 2nd order derivatives, inc&dec fns, critical point, graphs, asymptotes. And 10 of these in 100 minutes. AVOID HIM LIKE A PLAGUE
TMU should constitute a team, that makes the tests for the students, but also the professor will sit with the students and will take the test, if he cannot do the test in 60% of the time given (given his "years" of experience), he should be removed. Also, (100 - prof mark) should be curl ups. If so, then you are guaranteed 100% curl ups for Kim. =)
This is the best professor but is harder for those who don't know the course. Study hard. If you can't maybe uni is not for you. Edit: Maybe the review above me doesn't deserve his A grade too. You guys are too soft for this course.
People with C grades think he's the best, they deserve their C grade. This professor doesn't know what he is teaching. RUN from him as fast as possible. If 207 is a requisite for you to graduate but Chul is the one teaching it, DON'T GRADUATE. Edit: C-graders don't realize if you edit a comment, you go to the top lol! Come on Marcus! New low?
He is good at teaching calculus. The inevitable F's are F's for any teacher.
I have enjoyed MTH 207 this term. His lecture was well organized and had many practical examples. It was super easy to prepare the three tests because every detail of each test, including the shapes of the questions, was posted. I am sorry that he missed his lectures and talks, and that they were only about complaints.
Goes through a lot of practice problems in class. Midterms/tests are complex; however, he marks fairly. Since the class did really badly on the midterm, he gave us extra marks.
Thanks, Thanks. Most of the problems in Test#3 are from the lecture's example, which he solved thoroughly. I heard that MTH 207 problems were the same. Because of it, even with my minimum effort, I could get a B. I am sorry he missed his well-organized and clearly explained lectures.
Exciting lectures. He does care about students' understanding of the lectures, and, as announced, he makes the tests on his lectures and Lab problems. All the test questions are similar, differing only in the numbers. If you do not study, the test feels difficult.
It's crazy how many students (allegedly) are writing fake reviews about Prof. Kim's tests, that they are all from his lectures. They are not. Best advice, ask someone who has taken MTH207 in-person coz either students are playing suck up or the people writing weren't in his class. If all the Q's were from the lecture, why so many complaints? huh?
One of the worst prof's ever. Will intentionally misguide you about the tests, been through all the lectures, all the labs, not a single question in the test. If this prof is your only choice, avoid taking the course entirely - no matter how good you are calculus, you ain't gonna pass.
Frankly, this course is supposed to be a recap of your high school, but he will make it impossible for you to score good grades! You won't be tested on calculus but rather everything that is not calculus. If you are taking him: Condolences from the MTH207 class of 2025.
I am a transfer credit student, and touch-wood calculus has been my spécialité as I have been doing this since i was 13, and have even sat through some of the toughest competitive math exams (for those who think this is a skill issue). The only thing I can tell you is, this course is about calculus, exams are not. Skip the prof.
Avoid Professor Kim, pleaseeeee! For the sake of your sanity. The lectures are bland with completely no understanding of what is being taught and the tests are disconnected from the subject matter itself. This one is a GPA destroyer.
Wondering why people with B+'s and A-'s are ranting about the course and the professor ? bcoz that's is not what represents our understanding of this subject. He uses ChatGPT (prolly Deepseek) for answering genuine student concerns and passively mocking them by very thin victim blaming. You don't have a good prof for this course. So good luck.
He claim's to have 23 years of experience teaching Calculus. I say that is the worst 23 years anyone has ever wasted in the prolonged history of humanity. You can put Tony Stark in this class and he won't get better than A-. Why? Well 1/11 questions was about integration ... in an integration ONLY test!
This professor is a disaster. Sometimes you'll feel he is talking to himself while teaching. And for the tests, tbh, if you put him in his own exam he'll fail. Although, I gotta give it to him, he is an expert Chatgpt user, as he uses it for everything. Even your responses will be AI generated :'(
Sometimes it felt like I was talking to a wise monk (like oogway) who inspires the class only to realize that was him foreshadowing his sinister plans (whilst secretly smirking) knowing that he has successfully destroyed you grade. TLDR: SINISTER OOGWAY
Do you guys have your final grade? If not, the comments are very dangerous! Be careful!
It was a mixed bag, I think the main issue with the teaching was the accent which kind of led to multiple misunderstandings in the course. Prof. Kim is a nice person individually and that's where I'll leave it. I skipped classes at the end because it was futile and my overall grade is fine (per my expectations).
He's an okay professor overall. You often don't feel fully prepared for tests due to him putting many suprises on it but he gives bonus marks. His notes are extremely organized and easy to follow, which helps a lot with self-studying. Overall he's not great but definitely not as bad as everyone is saying.
He is an excellent professor, giving good lectures and a good final grade. Thanks!
I am pleased to have a much better grade than I expected.
It's sad to see how many of my classmates are happy about final grades being extremely curved rather than actually be concerned about the lack of teaching in the course.
Many topics in the course felt rushed and like we just barely scratched the surface while the tests felt like we are supposed to be experts in this course. Study on your own with your own resources as the recommended materials and lectures won't suffice if you want a good grade.
Tbh the prof seems like a good person but there are a lot of obstacles on the learning path. Many of my friends (incl. me) felt unprepared for the exams and yes many things gave the AI vibes in the course (and no i am not talking about the students).
The tests will catch you blindsided regardless of how many lectures you attend but Prof. Kim does curve up the marks which I guess gives the mixed reviews about the course and the Prof. For me its not bad, its not good, its just over. Decide for yourself.
Calc was never really my strength, though it could've been worse. Prof. Kim is genuinely kind, and I disagree that he “tricks” students with insane tests. Just do the hw. The course itself is draining, and your experience heavily depends on how strong your HS calc foundation was. (Oh yeah, he gives bonus points and a huge bell curve)
Tests are a MEGA surprise, especially when the recommended material for tests have no correlation to the test questions or their difficulty level. Suck it up, move on, Prof. Chul will curve the marks for this course upto 5% to 10% of the weightage. Uni in a nutshell....
The course was a breeze. Peopel complaining don't even deserve to be in universities. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen - Harry S. Truman. Professor Chul Kim is the BEST. It's simple HS calc, how can you get it wrong? (Oh yeah, there are plenty of bonus points and huge curve)
He has a lot of good stories about his teaching experience and his calculus 1 teaching was very good . He taught everything very clearly and used lots of diagrams and examples in explanations.
Dr. Kim makes Calculus so fun. He does review examples every class and really cares about his stude nts. Pay attention and use his amazing lecture note (posted on D2L) and you will get an A.
Instructor is humorous and knowledgeable of the lessons. It is visible that he is trying to teach the students so that benefits the students Thts course really helped me change my thought on math in general (I always thought math was hard !here/ore boong). THANK YOU
An amazing math teacher! Very knowledgeable and easily approachable. Hands down the best math teacher I have ever had.
Dr. Kim was a knowledgeable teacher and highly competent in his field. However, the way the course was delivered was not particularly logical. He was always on time and delivered the lecture with various types of examples.
He had made this course very enjoyable and memorable for me!
Dr. Kim is an amazing educator who is very knowledgeable and understanding. I couldn't have asked for a better professor in this course!
His teaching style is different from high school, and students should expect to study independently. The course grade is based mainly on three major tests, while labs are worth less. Asking questions after lecture is helpful.
