I had Jin for stat 201 and he was real easy. I got an A. Then I took stat 202 and it was like he was a total different teacher. In 202 I ended up with a D for the semester. It was very difficult to follow.
Doesnt give partial credit on tests.
Expectations are clear and easy to follow. Dr. Jin makes STAT fun with the use of computer software. If you can't do well in his class, it's YOUR problem!
I had Jin for Stats 200, he is very easy and goes over everything that will be on the test. You can have a formula page for every test. I love him!
Had him for stat 215 and he was very easy and always told you what to know for the test. Never gives homework, and allows formula sheets for everything. I suggest taking him.
Is a Stickler for grades. Gives Extra Credit for complete HW asns.
Prof. Jin speaks English well so understanding him is easy. Grading policy kinda sucks but there is no homework. 3-4 exams, 4 quizzes, 2 computer projects which are all pretty easy if you know what you're doing or at least have an idea. Cheat sheet allowed for exams and quizzes. Overall good prof.!
I HAVE TO WARN YOU, if you want to ace this class you MUST pay attention to every word that comes out of this mans mouth. Focus and its a well earned A, definetely not a class you can breeze through. Let me put it this way he doesn't count attendance but no one EVER misses a class.
just take notes of everything he puts on the board including examples and squeeze all of that onto ur formula sheets for quizes and exams, and ur golded, took him for both stats classes and got A's both times and im not smart.
he lets u use notes for tests and quizes
Arrogant...
Had him for 201 and have him now for 202...love this guy....PAY ATTENTION in his class and u earn ur grade...u can understand him speaking and he explains everything to a T
If you go to class and pay attention I have no idea how you could not get a good grade. He's a great teacher and funny as hell. I'm take 201 with him next semester
Short classes, you can tell he doesn't want to be there. Pay attention and go to class and you may succeed. No curving, you get only what you earn. No leeway in grading. If you are good at math I highly recommend him, if not, go for an easier professor.
Are you kidding, this guy is awesome, go to class and take notes and if you are too lazy to make a "formula sheet" which is nice way of saying a "cheat sheet" then you should just give up on college and drop out.
I had only taken elem stats when I was pushed by my advisor to take this class. I went to tutoring everyday (the class was summer sess 2). This class was awsome Mr. Jin is a great teacher. He does not give base your grade at the end on anything but the final. Do good on the final.
stupid idiot does problems out of the book and goes fast
For this class you need to be a wiz on excel or you really need to be quick at copying stuff down. Jin does not slow down for anything and if you dont get the answer right you better figure it out quick. He quickly runs over everything and will usually not go back. The tests are pretty easy and you get a formula sheet along with all your excel file
Moves through material quickly, uses Excel for everything, no partial credit on exams/quizzes, no homework (summer session), lets you use notes and previous Excel sheets on tests. You will do well if you go to class and ask questions if you need help.
def picks favorites...seems to get mad when u ask questions.
All you have to do is pay attention. Get step one right on the test hypothesis. The rest is basic data entry. He leaves copies of every excel sheet he does on the computer that you can copy and use during the test. Just don't buy the Workbook along with the Text he doesn't use it. Cake class!!
Worst Professor ever. If you get the hypothesis wrong your whole quiz is wrong it doesn't matter if you have all the right answers or not. Absolutely horrible. I can't believe he's still there he doesn't care about anyone but himself and getting his paycheck at the end of the day. Do not take a class with this guy your best bet is to just go and wi
If you pay attention you may be okay. He moves really quickly so if you're not the best at math don't take his class. He also has a pretty heavy accent and he likes to change the formulas that are in the book.
He does move fast and switches some of the equations. He gave a lot of extra credit which was helpful. He can be a little hard to understand but he is a good teacher if you want to learn. And I think he made some jokes but idk what he was saying. Lets you use a formula sheet for quizzes and tests. Also lets you out early and cancels class sometimes
Great professor. Uses excel for all note taking and formulas which makes it a billion times easier to understand than doing out long hand like all other professors do. Attendance is a must to pass because you'll get lost if you don't have the formulas in excel files. Exams and quizzes are easy!
HE IS EXTREEMLY HELPFUL HE CAN ACTUALLLY MAKE STATS (AN EXTREEMLY CHALANGING SUBJECT) LOOK AMASINGLY EASY. HIS TEACHING STYLE IS MAGICAL. HE ALLOWS YOU TO BRING YOUR FORMULAE SHEETS TO QUIZES AND TESTS. HIS ARE FAIR GRADES AND YOU DONT HAVE TO BE A GENIOUS TO PASS HIS COURSE, BUT YOU DO HAVE TO TRY.
Prof. Jin is an okay professor however I did not enjoy his strict and stern methods. He uses excel which may make it easier but the flaw with his method is within the hypothesis come the quiz/exam one wrong figure can give you all the wrong answers and he will deduct major points. He hates explaining himself too. Avoid if not a numbers person.
Horrible person. He never help you, won't do anything for the students, even ask him to post the answers to the homework, he wouldn't post anything for the student.useless teacher.
WORST TEACHER OF ALL TIME DO NOT TAKE. DOES NOT HELP AT ALL AND MOVES VERY FAST AND CANT UNDERSTAND HIM
Depends what you have him for, heard he was easy for STAT 200, 201, 215 because he allows formula sheets, but if for STAT 315, he is horrendous, calc based stats but he doesnt know how to do calc so you can't either, extremely unclear, not helpful, gives ZERO partial credit on the final, and really he's just not a nice human being.
Worst professor I have ever had. Not helpful, no interest in you as a student. Try to take this class somewhere else, it will be worth it.
Very hard to understand, but has a funny accent. He moves ridiculously fast, but does a lot of problems with the same format so you can pick it up rather quick. He also uses EXCEL and if you don't understand something and ask him, he will look at you like your stupid. Told our class if we didn't do one thing right we would fail instantly.
MUST know Excel and how to input equations for this class. He teaches at a fast pace - questions are better asked after class. He posts notes on Blackboard and there's several extra credit options. Is an OK guy if you approach him with a good attitude. It's still a difficult class, though.
All these people below me have got to be kidding..easiest professor I've taken at central. Get to use all your excel files for the tests and quizzes. I got a 105 in the class it's cake.
Go to EVERY class. Go to office hours a lot. Put all formulas into excel for tests. You have to work like hell to pass this class; prof is a good guy even tho he acts like he want you to fail He'll warn you that its hard dont take if not serious. I got B+ after getting 50 on first test; don't get scared of by bad grade but you have to put in time
Worst professor. Only take if you are familiar with Excel. He doesn't teach anything. You just copy and paste his formulas for tests and quizzes and then he has no system of grading them. Doesn't care if you're failing and class is a complete waste of time. I don't know how he is considered a "teacher".
MUST BE FAMILIAR WITH EXCEL! He's really not bad when you are, copy and paste for homework and exams. Two simple projects copied and pasted from classwork with your own data. Definitely take him if you want an easy statistics course. Once again, you must know excel!!
There may be times when you think you are going to fail, but you need to work smart and put in time. It is important to be familiar with excel as well, as he allows spreadsheets from classwork to aid in exams. He gives ample extra credit opportunities which balances out the challenging exams. Kind and funny guy, and short, to the point classes!
He is very helpful in the beginning of the semester but after awhile, he expects you to keep up and not ask questions. He takes awhile to reply to emails. He allows you to use your excel notes during quizes and exams. i got 100s on all quizes but he does something with his tests that make them so hard you get a terrible grade so study hard.
While it took the first couple of classes to get used to using excel and his style of teaching, the class was fantastic. No worrying about complicated formulas in a calculator, and he was more then willing to meet with students during the week to help them. You definitely have to show up and pay attention but this was a great summer course.
If you are familiar with excel you should take this course. Easier than other Stats 201 courses and he allows you to use all of your own notes during tests. Although you can use your notes subject can still be trickly so make sure you are organized with your notes and know when to apply what formulas and you'll pass.
3 tests + 1 final. know how to do the HW problems by heart and put in some effort to learn the excel formulas and you will get a 60 or 70 on every test. The final was pretty easy (got an 85) and he assigns tough bonus HW (just google the answers) which can accumulate up to 20 extra pts to your final grade. Hw is an easy 100 and is 25% of the grade
I'd like to recommended Professor Jin to everybody. He is really good. Everything he teach is on Excel, so you can learn two thing at the same time. He will give extra credit if you willing to do it. Think about you don't need to calculate by hand or calculators at all on math class. I wish he teach more class, so I can take for my electives.
This is the hardest class you can take as a math major. The average for the first exam was a 40 and the second was a 30. Out of the 20 people who joined the class, only 3-4 passed in the end. This guy gets a kick out of failing students. Take this course somewhere else online. It is your only chance to pass nevermind protect your gpa.
Professor Jin is an all around nice guy. Basically his business statistics class is this, he won't have you use a graphing calculator, he'll have you use excel and its formulas to prepare spreadsheet answers to the problems. It can be tedious at times and a bit confusing at fist since its unlike a traditional stats class but you learn, Taking agai
This class is so hard. first of all he uses excel to teach and lets you use your notes for exams sounds good right, but his tests are super hard and gives no partial credit on assessments also he goes through each class very fast and does a chapter each lesson. he has a accent and is very rude to students if you ask for help in class hes insults u
Whole class is on Excel, and he shares his notes with you. If you can keep up with a quick typer and you know how to copy and paste take this class.
On the first day of class, he stated, "I want all of you to succeed." Need I say more?
Great class, I recommend all math majors take it. You'll need to know his tricks to get a grade that reflects how much stats you actually learned though. There's something on each test that tricks you into thinking you didn't learn it, but you did. It's the way Prof Jin lectures; saying things while not actually conveying what he means in entirety
He uses excel which makes the class so much easier. He can be a smart ass. He does tutor 3+ days a week so he's there if you need the help. Also he allows you to use notes for all exams. If your notes are correct then they will be very helpful.
Avoid at all costs. you do use excel and have access to your in class notes but the tests are ridiculous hard. He also has a accent and acts like hes better than everyone else. its a bad combination, I have used excel for years and know the formulas but the tests are designed to trick you would recommend this class at all.
Great professor. He wants you to do well. Using excel is tricky at first but it becomes really handy later on. You can use the notes for the tests. Just follow along and take good notes and you'll be fine on the test. He gives you plenty of opportunities for EC. He's kind of snobby in the beginning but gets friendlier as semester goes on.
Lets you use notes on exams/quizzes. Hard quizzes/ exams. Short test taking time. Tough grader, no partial credit, no extra credit. Doesn't answer questions. You feel belittle by him. The class is great because you get to work on excel but it's a tough class to pass and he is not helpful. I suggest finding another professor that works with excel.
Good professor. All of our work was done on Excel. The notes you take in class on Excel can be used for quizzes/exams. Gives extra credit throughout semester. Does have a language barrier and is hard to understand at times. Doesn't give good feedback in class if you have questions. Can be fast-paced.
He's an amazing professor. I love him. Failed my third exam but ended with B+ in his class. DO HOMEWORK. Skip class you won't pass. He uses excel for his STAT200 and 201 class and i love excel. Focus in class and you will be fine. Ask question and he's really nice professor
Lets you use notes on all quizzes & exams and everything is done on excel because he likes to stay updated on today's technology. Super easy course as long as you just follow along with the excel template notes during class, most definitely an easy A
This professor uses excel to teach his stats class. The first few classes are easy to follow, however all the exams are applications which we dont do in class. Concepts he teaches are easy to follow. The problem is that the exam questions are ambiguous and make no snese in relation to class leactures. He talks down to students. Do not take him !!
Took Stats 2 after not taking Stats for a couple years (in which i barely passed stats 1) - he was AMAZING. I also took him during an accelerated course in the summer. The pace of his class is extremely manageable and his classwork was extra points that helped you and never counted against you. He does everything with excel but explains EVERYTHING!
One of the most rewarding classes I have taken in the School, learned so much in a Summer class than the regular Semester. Dr. Jin genuinely wants the student to succeed . The use of excel for the STAT class simplifies it more than you could ever imagine. He made it a lot easier!
Took this class online in the summer. Is manageable but make sure this class is the only responsibility that you have or you're going to struggle to manage all the work ahead of you. If you like feedback on the exams online, don't get your hopes up but overall, its alot of work but definitely do-able for a good grade.
This professor does not really teach you statistic, but a copy and paste method which is irritating. He lets you use notes on exams, but the questions on the exams/quizzes are very ambiguous. If you care about your education avoid this class.
Professor Jin gives SO many extra credit "bonuses" in his class. Almost one every class and you may think they are stupid but you will be so grateful for them at the end of the semester. His class is pretty easy but I grade him a 4 for difficulty because he does everything on Excel so if you are not familiar you might have a little trouble.
This class is hard but there is a lot of room for error. The entire class is done on excel, which makes the equations very easy to do. He is not clear sometimes, and can be condescending, but the class is very easy to do once you understand excel and what he expects. You will pass
His class was literally the hardest class I've ever had to take in my life. I would rather take an online course, heck, I'd rather change schools than take one more class with this sadist. More than half our class dropped out, even fewer passed, and a couple people even changed majors because of THIS class. DO. NOT. TAKE.
Professor Jin class is straight forward. He expects a lot from his students. Attendance is not mandatory, but attend everyday to receive a good grade. Does not offer feedback and may come off rude, but has some good moments. Three exams, 4 quizzes and a bonus, 2 projects and extra credit every class. Be prepared for twists and you'll do fine.
I'd rather change my major than take a class with this sadistic 'teacher' ever again. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Takes pride in failing students, little to no feedback, super hard tests (class averages typically in the 40s). Hardest class I've ever had due almost entirely to the teacher.
Dont take stats with this professor if you can help it. He does everything on excel and moves very fast without explaining anything. He does have open note tests and quizzes, but the time limit is short. He also gives extra credit which is nice. I didnt actually learn anything in this class, and had to teach myself most of it outside class.
Very smart man. Gives a lot of bonus opportunities and teaches very straightforward. Class notes are very clear and posted online until kids stop showing up then he takes them off. Lots of wiggle room and drops the lowest quiz grade. Bonus points are actually ridiculously high so take advantage of them. Overall very doable and not that hard.
Professor Jin is the best professor Ive ever had at CCSU. He makes sure the class is prepared for quizzes and exams. Show up to every class and you will end the semester with an A! Bonus quizzes and homework throughout the semester!
This man LOVES microsoft Excel. His quizzes are open notes (for the most part), but he uses Excel as an additional tool to the textbook problems. He is very understanding and a fast teacher. Hes willing to help you step by step, and provide multiple ways to solve a statistic problems with shortcuts.
DON'T TAKE HIM IF THE CLASS IF Fully ONLINE. All the work is in excel. He doesn't give his students enough time to do the quizzes and test. If you are not familiar with excel, this class is gonna be harder. AND even myself, who uses excel a lot, I still end up not finishing my quiz on time because of the formula, graph and the problem is long.
He is a tough professor regarding assignments and questions. If you stay focused and take notes you would pass the class but if you fall behind your grade might be affected. Overall he gives many oppourtunites to increase your grade and is a reliable professor
I thought I liked him a lot in the beginning of the semester, but then I scored low on my final and my whole grade has bounced to a low B. This class is all on excel which doesnt make it difficult, but it is difficult to keep up with his specific notes and expectations for each problem.... especially in the very small time frames he gives.
Dr. Jin is very clear about expectations. Show up to class and pay attention, and it isnt too bad. I also had him for STAT200. Its a bit of a learning curve with Excel, but once you get it, statistics becomes easy. I strongly recommend office hours if youre struggling. Hes extremely helpful. Very matter-of-fact, and a nice person as well.
Do not take this class if you don't know how to use excel. He will do things several times to show you but who can remember 300 steps on excel to apply to homework? He won't record his lectures so that you can reference them back when doing HW. He gives zero feedback on assignments. It would be in your best interest to videotape the class yourself
Let's start off by saying these past reviews are incorrect and I learned the hardway. This professor is horrible and doesn't deserve to teach. I had multiple occasions were I asked questions after class and he said "No" then walked away from me. His grading is sketchy, won't reply to emails or help students, and he should reconsider his career.
LOL just no.
Just Don’t Don’t bother asking questions, he’ll just say “I don’t know figure it out” Doesn’t post notes, any extra help or practice problems Exams are 4-5 questions, better hope you don’t get one wrong! You’re on your own in this class.
This professor isn't as bad as what the reviews say, as long as you go to class and write down what he's writing, you will be able to pass the class, you get to use all your notes for the quizzes and exams. He also gives xtra credit at end of semester. As long as you have basic excel knowledge, you'll be fine.
The past reviews on Chun Jin are incorrect. Yes, this class is difficult, but it does not have to be. The professor knows its hard and wants everyone to pass. He will answer any question and help you as much as you need. He won't tell you right away, but type notes on excel for EVERYTHING he says and maybe even record your lecture. He's a great guy
No no no no no no. DO NOT take him unless absolutely needed and even then I would advise not to. He is so mean. He will SCREAM at you if you dont know what you are doing or ask for help. His final was impossible for the whole class. Yes he only uses excel but I think thats every stat class now. But either way this professor is anything but ideal.
Probably one of the best math professors I've ever had. The entire class was in excel, which makes stats much easier and if you don't know much about excel you'll learn. For the exams he lets you copy and paste your notes onto the excel document so you can just plug in the right numbers, just be wary of the time limit. Awesome professor.
He is a good professor. He wants you to do well in the class, gives you everything you need to pass. Show up and pay attention in class, practice outside of class and you will have nothing to worry about, if you have specific questions ask AFTER class. I'm horrible at math but this class kind of made me like stats. He's kind of funny too
STAT 315 is a difficult class, but Prof. Jin makes the material very accessible. His lectures make it difficult for students to get lost. The class is great, even if the tests are rough when you can't finish the homework. DO THE HOMEWORK AND ASK QUESTIONS and you will be fine; he uses tons of those questions on the tests.
Prof Jin has specific expectations of the course and his students. He can be tough at times, but is also helpful when you need it. Pay close attention, take good notes, and practice problems outside of class. He gives bonus points toward the end of the semester to boost your grade as well. I recommend taking this course with him.
I almost dropped stat200 after the first week. Prof. came off strong and the class felt sped up. But once you get used to Jin and the importance of keeping up with him, it is a breeze. Exams are open note and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities towards the end of the semester. I finished with 100%, as somebody who struggled at first. Rec!
I love professor Jin! Really nice man and great teacher. Goes a bit fast but will make sure you get the material. All assignments are in excel which I really like, it helped me with excel a lot. Lots of bonus points available. Answers all questions. Very fair grader. If you miss even one class, good luck.
For sure the worst professor I've ever had at CCSU. I think he said the average for the exam was a 40 and he bragged at the beginning of the semester about how he prides himself on making this class SUPER DIFFICULT. The material itself is already hard, but he doesn't make it any easier with his terrible lecturing/teaching.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This is a 200 level class but he makes it like a 400 level class. Prides himself on failing students.
Easy A if you show up to class and take good notes. All on excel and is open note quizzes and exams. Can come off as sassy at first but you'll come to find out he's such a funny guy. If you complain about him chances are you're just a CCCSUB (Certified CCSU Bum)
Professor Jin is great. He makes a typical boring stat class enjoyable and is a funny guy. Just follow his notes and studying recommendations and you will be fine. Everything is laid out for you to pass.
Professor Jin is great. He makes a boring stats class enjoyable and is a funny guy. Just follow his notes the best you can and you'll be fine. He lays everything out for you to pass.
Prof Jin runs a demanding class, but engages students well. The Excel-focused format is challenging, but helpful for building skills. Consistent attendance is key. Using unstuck study and the free textbook can make a big difference.
Regardless of what some of these reviews say, he actually is a great professor. All that he asks of you is to make sure you come to class and always take notes! He allows you to use your notes on any quizzes/exams. This class was completely on Excel, but he helps you the whole way through and is very adamant about helping students succeed.
I'm a little confused by these ratings. Professor Jin is really funny, kind, although a little sassy. He explains things really well and offers a lot of extra credit too.
Great professor! Had him over the summer for Stat and he made sure we all understand the topic before moving on. Would rec taking him
