Best teacher I've had at Towson thus far. She makes the class very interesting and easy to understand. Weekly papers aren't too hard. No tests at all which is a plus. One big paper that she works with you constantly to make sure you do well.

Professor Cates is amazing. She is incredably intelligent and incredably clear. You have to read 3 novels for this class, but the novels don't suck, they are fascinating. Plus whenever we have major assignments, she is there with you for every step.

Best teacher at Towson. She is full of knowledge, willing to help you and just happy about life. Weekly 2 page papers are easy, but you will still learn alot. I'm taking every class she teaches :)!

Awesome teacher, very nice and will help if you need it. There is a lot of work, but she always reminds you and doesnt give much notes. She lets you know what is going to be on tests. Great, definatly take this class.

Excellent prof! All group papers, so be sure to pick your partners wisely. Tries to make the subject interesting, and some of the novels are pretty good. Always willing to help if you need it.

nice prof but VERY hard. she teaches like its a law school class. she's very liberal. too many readings and papers. she barely teaches, its all class discussion and opinions. need i say there was a 30 page syllabus! save yourself and dont take this awful class

When I first read the syllabus I was about to drop the class, but I didn't. I am so glad I took this class cuz she is such an awesome teacher and I learned alot. You have to read 3 novels and write papers about them plus a research paper but it wasnt bad at all. She grades fair. Great Class!

You are a retard if you get anything less than a B in this class. Another slanted professor with liberal views but the class is one of the easiest on campus. If you are a POSC major and dont take Cates you are stupid.

Dr Cates is the most helpful and patient prof on campus. She's a wonderful woman who genuinely cares about her students. She's humerous and she makes her classes interesting and fun. They are, in turn, easy becuase she makes them so enjoyable. Highly recommended.

A fabulous teacher!! I'm a film major and had to take this for a gen-ed thing..but she made it much less painful than I ever would've expected. Forces you to learn but gives more than reasonable workload. Go to class (very upbeat lectures) and read some for papers (just 3 plus takehome midterm and final). Very fun sweet woman..take this class!! :-)

One of Towson's finest. Very enthusiastic, intelligent and funny. Go to lectures because they're interesting. (I swear) Grades easy and work load is not bad. I never got lower than a 95% on anything and I'm not that smart. Don't let the the 9-page syllabus scare you off. She's kinda hot too...

This professor was very unwilling to discuss my final grade and final exam with me. I had earned A's on both papers, and a C on the midterm. She claims that I failed my final exam. Needless to say, I do not believe that. However, I will never know because she refused, on many occasions, to discuss the exam with me. Do not take her class.

Had her 8am n she made it interesting enough that I never fell asleep. She has a quirky sense of humor, is really easy going, her exams are easy...just an awesome gen-ed class. A Must take!!! One of the best in the dept.

I originally thought this seminar class was going to be hard. However, it turned out to be pretty easy as long as u do the work. A 3 page paper is due once a week and there are no exams/quizzes!!! Very helpful teacher and very nice! I defenitely reccomend this hot mama!! :-)

She's an easy teacher. I wouldn't buy the books though. You really don't need them. Even the novels, I got A's on all 3 of my papers without reading the novels. The textbook is pointless too, I didn't open it once during the semester. Overall good class. Not bad for an 8am.

One of the best professor’s in Towson! Two exams (mid term & final) and three papers! The papers are very easy and the exams are ok. She is very nice and is willing to help you anytime. Took her for a Gen Ed at 8am but she makes the class interesting. If you want to get an A you must attend every class! TAKE HER!

Cates is Great, no doubt about that. If u get the chance to take her when she returns from leave, pls. do so. My only gripe "mini-papers", due every class meeting. At first they are fine, but by the end of the semester they become a pain in the @$$ as she wants those papers PLUS the research paper. If time permits, do the mini-papers in Sept/Oct

Dr.Cates is a real good professor. I liked the class. If you come to class and do your work you are looking at an A. She takes attendance everyday. She makes class interesting. She gives out good cases and we discuss them as a group. She's big on grammar on papers but nothing anyone can't handle.The papers are due online but she gives enough time.

She is a really fun, down-to-earth teacher. Most of the class is discussion; no hardcore lectures. Three 5 page papers, and two take home exams. Papers are interesting and easy. She is an extremely fair grader and makes you actually want to come to class. Her group hypothetical readings are hilarious and make you think. I highly recommend her.

This is a really interesting class. It is very discussion based with many group discussions about hypothetical situations. There are no in-class tests, only papers, but before every paper is do class is canceled and you can go any talk to her about your paper during that time. I would definitely recommend her class!

Awesome teacher!She gives five points for attendance ut after being in her class you will want to go back. Three small easy papers and two tests. The tests are two questions each but she gives you the questions a week before the test. Adds to class by making witty comments and adding humor to handouts. This class is an easy and interesting A.

Professor Cates is great! Attendence is EC, she is very helpful and loves what she teaches. Classes are usually very interesting. Books are needed. Midterms and finals are take home short essays and only three short papers during the semester. Take her if you get the chance!

Great class excellent teacher. She teaches the class like you are in law school. Alot of Socratic discussion and hypotheticals to help you understand concepts. 3 5 page papers. MT and F both take home (Another 5 pgs each). Very clear about what she wants and even take class time to help those who want it. Great class if you like law.

Shes very nice and will help you if you need it. Very generous on grades at the end but fairley strict on them on individual assignments. Attendence is optional but it counts as extra credit towards your final grade. I dont think I got a grade about an 80 all semester and I got a B in the class. Iv taken this class 3 times, this one got me through.

great teacher! she was very nice and graded fairly. must read assigned books in order to complete given assignments but class is not mandatory-instead extra credit towards final grade. only gives 2 tests; midterm & final. Very helpful outside of class too. Definitely recomend taking her!

One of the best professors in the department. Had this class as a morning class, never once found myself drifting off or asleep. She makes everything very clear and easy to understand. Online assignment one day, every other week, 3 book reports, and a midterm & final- both essay. While it seems like a lot of work, it really isn't bad. Great prof.

Took her Moot Courts class just because I loved her for 103 and wanted to take another class with her. Wasn't too sure if I'd like the class, but it was really interesting and you really only need to come one day a week. Planning on taking the LSAT next fall because I enjoyed this class so much.

She is super clear on what se wants and obviously likes the subjects she teaches, readings are vital for papers. Take home exams!!! always responds to emails and you get extra credit for showing up to class! She is fun and tries to get everyone to participate. If you don't get an A you are lazy and retarded!

Professor Cates is amazing. She is such a helpful professor. The content is interesting, but the course is boring. Weekly papers are annoying and the amount of reading is excessive...but there are no exams in the class which makes up for that.

Professor Cates is a great professor. She makes an upper level course easy. She doesn't like lecturing, so expect doing a lot of group work. Take home exams. Three small papers instead of one big one. When she rarely lectures she's always clear, and is always clear when giving instructions. You get points added for showing up to class!

Professor Cates is super nice and laid back! She takes roll but going to class doesn't help much with the essays and tests. There are 3 short papers and a midterm and final. Instead if class on Fridays, she had us do a short easy online thing every week.

I took this class at 8am and attendance was extra credit and not mandatory (thank goodness). She really knows her politics and is really nice. The class is not an easy A more like an easy B or C. But if you put out the work you will get a good grade. There is no homework just on your own readings that you need to do in order to write the papers.

Such a sweet and kind teacher. read 3 books and write a 3pg paper for each. midterm and final - gives you 6 questions ahead of time and puts 2 on the midterm/final. online assignment every other thursday=no class for that day. she's not boring to listen to. available to help you any way that she can. Cates is one of the best professors at Towson. She is extremely helpful. This class is a lot of work though. You need to be a strong writer to not go crazy in this class. Expect two 2 page papers per week plus one long paper that you will work on all semester. If you do not have a lot of time to devote to this class don't take it- but its great!

Cates is an average professor. Her class isn't tough at all. 3 books, 3 essays, 3 pages each. She doesn't give a lot of feedback on the essays and will often just give you a grade. For the midterm and final she gives you 6 essay questions ahead of time and then chooses 2, so there are no surprises. She also offers extra credit for attendance.

Cates is very clear about her expectations. Her syllabus is lengthy and detailed - read closely! Usually there's no class on Friday, but an online prompt, which is pretty easy. There are three papers (3-5 pages) on three different novels. Midterm and final are essay questions, which she gives you a study guide beforehand. Not a hard class though.

Class isn't very hard. Pay attention in lecture, as the powerpoints don't help much. I had to miss an exam because I was very sick, and she rescheduled it for me. She is very understanding. You don't need to be an expert in government to get a good grade, but if you've taken gov before, you won't have a problem. Online Fridays are great!

The class is pretty easy as long as you come to class and take notes. The exams are in class essays, but she provides study guides so you know what to expect. Throughout the semester you read 3 novels (common reads for high schools so chances are they will be familiar) and write a 3-5 page paper relating them to class topics.

Dr. Cates is one of the best at Towson. She's sweet, funny, and always willing to help. You'll be doing a lot of reading, so you definitely need to buy the books. Your grade is made up of fifteen short (2-3 page) papers based on the assigned readings, a fairly lengthy term paper, and a presentation on that paper. Take any class you can with her!

I took her for POSC384. I just had to drop her class (technically withdraw) because she will fail you if you miss just one of her projects. She doesn't use blackboard or send out reminders. She emails everything.
