Cindy is an amazing, enthusiastic teacher. She explains everything very thoroughly, which can be frustrating because she goes over the same step a lot. She is helpful though, very fun. Only complaint is that class consistently starts 20 min late. Fun, entertaining class teacher though! TAKE FROM HER
Amazing teacher. Very fun! Explains thoroughly and easily understood. Best dance teacher at USC! TAKE HER
Awesome instructor, a great help! She'll do everything she can to help you learn to dance better! Take the class, it's easy.
One of the sweetest, most wonderful people I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. She's so concerned about her students and really knows how to make dancing the way it should be -- FUN!! I highly reccomend her. :-)
this woman will renew or instill a love for dance, she always has a different upbeat warm-up and keeps the class fastpased, but she is aways willing to show things over and over again. awesome chorepgrapher. Iam going to take her for the rest of my college career if i can help it.
Cindy kicks ass!
I am very close to Cindy and she is my own personal hero. She will instill a love of dance in you that is truly a gift. Anything you need she's willing to help you with and she is one of those rare teachers who will truly make you a better dance her if you
VERY FREAKING EASY. attendance is taken...dont bother taking the notes because she gives you a study guide before the test with ALL of the notes on it. movies are boring, but class is an ensured A. take it if you need to boost your GPA.
She is a very easy teacher. She doesn't put the attendence sheet up until after the class is over so you have to stay the whole time. We get out of the class early. Test are really easy and no need to take notes because she gives you everything on the study guide. You have to take 2 test, observe 2 dance classes and go to 3 dance performances.
Easy A. The tests come straight from the notes on the study guide. Gotta go to 2 dance class observations and 3 dances. Don't worry no dancing required
Cindy's wonderful! Really works to make sure each dancer is getting the combinations and things. She has to give tests and make you write critiques (by USC policy), but they're SUPER easy. And the class(es) are such a break from other frustrating ones... I really looked forward to dancing! Cindy comes highly reccomended. :)
Don't take any notes...every thing is on the study guide. Make sure you go to class because attendance is important! This class is so easy. i love it!
Jazz with Cindy was awesome! I had never danced before, but she took time with me and helped me get the combinations right. I had a GREAT time in the class - it was a real stress-relief.
very easy..don't buy the book or take notes. The study guide has EVERYTHING on it and the test are right off the study guide. She does take forever to grade test but it is a big class. And make sure you bring something to do while in class b/c it can get very boring.
even if you like dance, i doubt this class will be interesting to you. all you do is watch old scratchy videos that you can't hear...so if you plan to stay in class after she takes the attendance bring a magazine or something. easy tests straight from the study guide. no need for a book or notes
This is the most boring class I have ever taken and I love dancing. She stands up front and rambles on continuously for an hour. You watch old, boring videos that you can't see or hear. The only plus is that she lets you out of class early every day. She grades very hard on papers. She gives you most of the answers to the midterm.
Two Tests. Three Dance Performance reviews. Easiest Class Ever. She doesn't post the reviews anymore, but she does run through the entire test the class before the test. Just don't be an idiot!
this class is extremely boring! she expects a lot of detail in the papers, at least more than the other dance teachers but overall it is pretty easy just really boring. should definatly be an A
You don't need a book. All you have to do to make an A is go to class and take notes, make sure you actually go to the dance performances and do your portfolio. Easy A.
Really easy class, but pretty boring, I slept most of the days. All you have to do to make an A is go to the performances and write a good paper on them. Also the class period before the test she practically reads directly from the test, so just take notes then, and study them. Easy A, much better than any of the other required fine arts!
She is the single dumbest teacher I have ever had at this school. I mean, wow. So many times in her class my mouth was to the floor because of some stupid thing she said.
I have been dancing all my life and thought this class was pretty boring. She thought using a microphone would help make us hear her but the way she talks into makes it worse...such an idiot! getting through the shortened classes isnt so bad if you bring other hw...take notes when she gives them and youll ace the tests. so boring but so easy.
She is overall a good and easy professor. The test come straight from the book and she will tell you what is on them. Make sure you go to the test review because she tells you exactly what is on it. She also does extra credit...do it!
Does a good job teaching amid chaos created by those who want easy grade without work. Knows subject and reads papers personally. Says you start out with an A and work yourself out of it, partly by skipping class. Class stuck in old gym with sound problems. Many films required to be shown are scratchy. Both factors out of her control.
good teacher, lectures come right out of the textbook...pretty boring never paid much attention...tells you exactly what is on each test
Too many take this class wanting easy A for fine arts credit & gripe when they find it's not the case. She's by far the best of those teaching this course and really the best dance teacher overall. Skip this class if you're a slacker.
Dismisses class fifteen minutes early everyday, so that's a bonus. Tests come straight out of the notes, which comes straight out of the textbook, so I would suggest just buying the book and highlighting in it. Could grade a little easier on the concert reviews, but they won't hurt your grade too much.
This class is worthless whoever you take. She reads the test to you the class before the exam. I only took notes on those days and got an A. Take a good book to read the other days. The text is good to have, her questions come straight out of it.
Pretty much a pointless class..and the sad thing is that if the class was taught properly it could be interesting. A nice woman but doesn't try to challenge students at a college level.
Is a good teacher and will help you out if you ask her. Some of the performances are a drag but not too bad.
A mandatory fine arts class whose size (nearly 200) makes it unruly. It's Mission Impossible. Too much whining and pressure to dumb things down. She knows her stuff. University uses big classes like this to provide audiences that pay for dance shows.
She was not very good- to me
She is boring and it's hard to pay attention to her monotone voice. She's always complaining about her lack of time and it doesn't seem she likes her job.
Great teacher in classroom setting that overwhelms others. You have to work--she won't hand it to you on silver platter. Class is tug-of-war between students who want pablum for easy A and those who want something more stimulating. Department gurus make teachers keep it simple on a high plane, satisfying very few in class.
hated this class. boring and ridiculously large class size. however, easy A for humanity requirement. Attendance is taken and you have to go to 3 dance performances that are a waste of time and money. if you must, take it for the requirement not for fun.
This class was okay. It is really easy but its REALLY boring. I never went and still got a B+. I could have easily gotten an A but I was lazy. 2 Tests, 3 Dance Review quizzes. You have to attend 3 performances. This class is not hard at all with Flach as your teacher.
i can't say this enough...this is a dumb class. omg. if you have to take a fine art it isn't hard which is why i took it. the book is useless. just go to class and take her notes and you'll be fine on the tests. heads up though, you have to attend 3 performances and you have to pay for them. only $10 but it's still unfair. and she is kinda annoying
This class was kind of all over the place. Its Jazz Technique I and you have a mix of experienced dancers and people who have never danced before. To be honest I felt like she cared more about her experienced dancers! She is a very sweet lady and it easy to get an A! She doesn't respond quickly to emails or sometimes never responds!!!
Good intro--you'll learn a lot that will carry over to other classes. It helps if you had training at a good private studio--she moves it along. Not a class for stragglers and wannabes.
One of USC's hidden jewels!!! It's a welcome break from department emphasis on ballet. Live music sometimes--great way to get fine arts credit with exercise.
she is kind of crazy and spacey but she knows her stuff and the class is pretty easy. you have to come to class to get the notes but as long as you study the info you will make an A. if you need a fine arts credit take this class and take her.
She knows what she is talking about and if you listen and take notes in class you will do fine on her test. There are mandatory dance performances and quizzes after each one. She does tend to ramble because she has so much experience.
She enjoys talking about herself and less about what's actually going to be on the test. Go to class and take notes and you'll do well - if you kill yourself studying for the test. Don't take her.
She is passionate about dance, but she is an awful lecturer. The lectures are straight from the book, so you don't need both. She is hard to follow and moves fast, but luckily the material was easy. Tests can be random. I would study with people to compare notes, because she will throw in random facts.
Don't buy the book it's a complete waste of money I didn't open it once. I got an A (barely) and that's because i took notes and paid attention. The performance quizzes have EC points so make sure to pay attention at the plays because that's what saved my grade. Tests questions are very vague. She's very passionate about dance, not teaching
She makes mandatory arts class interesting. Main problem is large size creates distractions by kids who don't want to be there. Don't take her for easy grade--she makes you work and think. Be aware you must attend 4 dance concerts (few excuses accepted per dept. rules) and be able to write briefly about them with insight.
Mrs. Flach is not the best teacher. she moves super fast and is not accommodating to students who ask questions and is often rude back. tests are pretty hard but aren't so bad if you write down everything she says in class. 4 performances are mandatory. grade is made up of only tests- no homework or grade for attendance.
She is obviously very passionate about dance and loves it, but she often comes off pretentious a/b who she used to dance for & blah blah. You dont need the textbook but you MUST take notes. The tests arent hard if you have good notes. 4 mandatory performances & quizzes the next class. Quizzes are a pain. Wasnt too bad, just alot of note taking.
TAKE HER if you want to learn. DO NOT TAKE HER if you want an easy grade. Large class prevents individual attention unless you seek it. Mix of multiple choice, true-false and fill-in blanks plus brief essays on tests--she reads each and comments so you know what you did right/wrong.
Most student-friendly on dance faculty, but no pushover for those inattentive or who want to be babied. Take her early evening classes--smaller, more relaxed and easier to navigate. Do the work and you'll shine--goof off and you pay.
Mrs Flach was useless as a teacher. Fine arts is required for business majors...we really don't care. She was very rude and none of her lectures made sense.
Moves fast through lectures so hard to follow at times. Loves Dance period so takes class way more seriously than it should be. You do have to study but not like your other classes. 4 mandatory performances that were awful and time consuming. Goes through all work carefully. Boring class, does count off for attendance.
Musical theater is an oasis amid heavy department emphasis on straight drama--take it if you want to be more well-rounded and increase your chances for getting a job in this profession.
West African is a lot of aerobic movement. No textbook but you have to be there to learn dances. Research paper at end, sometimes a party. It's roots of jazz--good change of pace from ballet.
Tips from a grad student who was a TA for this class: --It's tougher now. Work and you'll be fine. --Don't skip films & performances. Tests designed to detect absentees. --USC thinks interest in arts as vital as sports. --For every gripe on this Web site, teachers get 10 calls/emails of thanks. Faculty is good but won't baby you.
I thought that this class was going to be an easy A but it defiantly wasn't. Make sure you take really good notes during lectures because not everything she says is in the book. You have to attend about 5 dance performances and you are quizzed on them. These quizzes are so specific so make sure you pay really good attention. Just pay attention.
Branch out from department emphasis on ballet and modern--learn a lot and be more versatile. Tap, vaudeville, jazz and more. Technique as well as history. Papers and presentation in addition to training.
Class material is ridiculously easy, however she takes her job WAY too seriously. Attending dance performances is mandatory and you have to buy the tickets to them yourself. Attendance is taken every class, and my class has ended up with a seating chart for 150 people... Take another professor, if at all possible.
Don't take for easy grade--it's not a snap as some believe. Friends & I did well because we studied, went to class and attended performances as required by dept. Learned USC uses class to detect those who sign in for others skipping class--that's contrary to student honor code. Problems found cause mandatory seating chart.
Class was great. It's a nice break from the ballet/modern based rest of the program. You get history and are required to write papers and do presentations but the info is always really interesting. She is understanding about attendance and has a lot of information to share about things other than dance specifically how to take care of the body.
A pretty easy class if you pay attention and go. Do NOT buy the textbook, because you don't need it. As long as you take notes on lectures and go to the performances, you should come out with an A. She knows her stuff about dance and loves to share her knowledge with other people.
Tests aren't difficult if you take notes. Usually she'll review EVERYTHING the day before. Performances quizzes aren't too bad either. Good teacher.
Her class is so easy, but she's rude
As a former TA (not hers): 1)She is student-friendly but no fool. 2) She makes it clear she is not on call 24/7, so don't expect instant reply to emails. 3) She teaches 3-4 other classes plus supervises student choreographers, so she is always busy. 4) She goes beyond ballet to Broadway, most comprehensive range among DANC101 teachers. 5) Study.
I liked her class. Aftering hearing horrible things about DANC 101 I was pleasantly surprised by this class. Only downfall is that she doesn't not post her notes. She lectures the whole class and you have to take notes. She lets you miss three classes. The test were easy and the performance quizzes were too.
Class was easy enough, she speeds through lecture outlines and jumps around quite a bit. Tests and performance quizzes are easy as long as you pay somewhat attention in class. Not bad.
Her lectures are super disorganized but tests and quizzes are fairly easy. She has a seating chart, just don't let it get to you.
She takes attendance every day and you need to come to get the lecture notes, but she provides a lecture outline every week. As long as you study a little bit for the tests and actually take notes you will do well.
Mrs. Flach is really passionate about Dance. Although the class is not a cake walk, if you attend class and take notes then her tests are a breeze. She also offers 50 pts extra credit throughout the semester. If you are considering taking DANC 101 only take her. She requires the least amount of work out of all the teachers.
Kind of all over the place in lecture, and can be a bit rude at times. However, she loves dance, and will basically give you the answers to the test if you get stuck on a question. Would recommend taking her and this class if you're trying to fulfill your AIU credit.
The class is easy but sitting listening to her go on and on about dance is miserable. She's all over the place in her lectures. Going to class is a must if you want to pass this class
A different kind of history class. Knows her stuff. Will help but carries heavy teaching load and is no patsy for whiners and those who expect easy, easy class. Take her to learn, not for your GPA. Reduces grade for excessive absence.
Not a very hard class but the tests get harder as the semester moves along. It is a lecture based class and it gets very boring. Takes the subject matter very seriously.
If you are into this class and writing down every word she says than yes its pretty easy. If you hate dance and have trouble keeping up with teachers who talk fast and get upset when they ask you to repeat what they said than its very difficult. This class would be 100 times easier if she put notes online. I made a C in Dance and an A in Calc 2.
If she's as bad as some here say, why are her classes always full? Waited a year to get in on advice of friends--it was worth it. Helpful but won't baby you. Expect to study a bit and go to department-required performances followed by tests that apply lessons to what you saw.
She is a sweet lady, but is a little toooooo into dance. She gets really aggravated if you show up late, so make sure to come early. She does let class out early though so thats cool! Although there is no way she didnt cover certain material, she covers too much material.
I took this class because I had to and I'm glad I did. She's very educated on the subject and is very enthusiastic. I didn't hate going, but I didn't love going either. The pop quizzes are for extra credit, tests are easy, and there are NO PAPERS. This is the easiest DANC 101 class at USC. I barely had to put in effort for an A.
She gives you more information that what is needed for the exams but you basically need to type everything she says because some part of the huge rant with be on the exam. If you show up every class, take detailed notes, study, and go to the dance performances- you will get an A.
Professor Cynthia is amazing, i took Dance 101 for the second because i failed the first. She was very helpful and gave a lot of extra credit quizzes that are easy. No homework assignments at all. You have to take notes if you want an A in your exam. Attending dance performances is mandatory. You only have 3 absences allowed.
Good instructor
So boring to listen to. Assigned seating. Does not seem to understand most students don't care.
Reasonable demands for college course. A attainable with a little effort and attention.
Takes herself too seriously for a 101 class, dropped the class after test 2 because I wasn't willing to put as much effort as she required into a class that wasn't about my major. She just talks all of class and expects you to take notes and if you don't then you won't have any material to study with. She also takes roll and gives assigned seats.
I am having to retake the course because she says her lectures are "fluid like dance" and doesn't use a powerpoint, blackboard or really any thing to teach from. This is a history based class and she teaches based on personal experience. This means that her tests do not match her 90 minute long lectures in which she stands & talks the full 90 mins.
She gives you lecture outlines to help take notes during class, usually tests on material she emphasizes during lecture. I got an A on all of the tests and the quizzes. You are required to go to 3 performances that she chooses during the semester and she quizzes on them with specific questions so take notes.
You'll do well if you come to class, listen and take notes. Puts outlines online instead of Power Points--it's amazing some don't look for them even though she consistently tells you it's there. Department requires you to attend performances. Her classes often full. Will work with you if you have legitimate personal issues. Get the book.
Always lets out early b/c the dance building is so far from other classes. Tests are 25 multiple choice questions (but 100 points). Tells you what will be on the test. Have to go to 3 dance performances during semester and 25 point quiz on those. Extra credit option by going to extra performance and writing a paper. Attendance is taken by TA.
Expected this class to be an easy a without trying yet had to work for the grade. If you don't pay attention and take good notes in class you won't do well. Gives an outline for each chapter but not much info on it. Tests are easy if you study. Mandatory dance performances and quizzes that follow. The quizzes ask questions you won't know answer to.
Learn about cutlure as well as dance
Great coach/adviser for student choreography showcase. Knows her stuff and guides well while giving you freedom to create.
A history class for non-majors. More a story teller who like Q&A than a lecturer prone to listening to herself drone on. You'll have to work some and apply class lessons to required performances. Skip if you want easy grade--take if you want to learn something different. Helpful, but won't baby you.
Not an easy A but not impossible. Lectures get confusing sometimes but she uploads outlines so if you take good notes and study its fine. Extra credit is also given which helps alot
Not a bad class at all but you have to go to class in order to get the notes. Test are not bad at all and she's better than the other dance teachers!!! She is super sweet and will answer any questions during the test to help you.
You have to go to class. She posts lecture outlines, but expects you to fill them in and pay attention throughout the lecture. Gave extra credit on 3/4 tests, which is really easy (she told us the answer before the test)There are two mandatory performances and they cost $12/each.
Super nice and will give you test answers during lecture. You have to go to lecture, she has outlines on blackboard but if you want to pass definitely go. You are only allowed 4 absences and after that she drops a letter grade so be careful! Also she talks super fast so I would highly recommend that you come with a laptop.
As long as you show up and take notes, its a very easy class. She gives up to 30 points of extra credit. She gives four tests and two quizzes which were very easy as long as you showed up and took notes. She puts lecture outlines online so its very easy to follow. A textbook isn't required.
Deep knowledge of musical theater dance, a style not emphasized by powers-that-be.. Lessons very usable as teacher or someone planning to dance outside of ballet. Coming to class was a joy.
Prof. Flach pays another choreographer to teach us dances and will spring dance assessments on you 3 or less hours prior to class time. This is supposed to be an entry level dance class but it is not treated as such. She assigns papers and projects of which she grades harsher than my english professors. Do yourself a favor and don't take this class
For a dance appreciation Class it was more work than I expected. I am a dancer, so I still got a very high grade. She tends to ramble on during lecture and it can get annoying. She is a nice lady, and the class is still very easy as long as you do the work. She helps you with answers on quizzes if you ask.
Teacher treats this class as a higher level course than a 101 dance class. She a stickler to doing things by the books and rules. You must go to class and take notes in order to get at least a B in the class.
As ex-Student Govt. member who took 3 classes with her: --USC requiring more writing in all classes and wants tougher grading --She won't tolerate sloppy, juvenile work --Department leaders require DANC101 attendance at 3 shows, so drop class if you can't/don't want to go --Her talks during films help those who don't understand what's shown
Not an class for those who was easy A--work required but it's not too tough, This is not familiar topic for most of us, so listen and read instead of cruising other Web sites during class and asking questions answered at least 5 times already or in online syllabus for those regularly inattentive or absent.
I had her for a small night class once a week and she was awesome. She made everything so interesting and was very personable. Love her!
The first two exams are difficult because there are a lot of foreign names of old choreographers and dancers from centuries ago. The last two exams are easier because you can use your notes. Overall, her lectures are boring but the videos she shows are interesting. As someone who isn't artistic, I was looking for an alternative art credit.
First two exams are a serious struggle, and her lectures are really all over the place but the rest of the class is easy because the last two exams are easy because they are open note exams.
USC stuffs classes full during day--take at night when it can be more personal. She is no pushover for those who are lazy, but will listen if you have problem. Knows her stuff.
Very nice lady who cares about your success in this course. Her lectures are a mixture of lecture and videos. Take good notes during the lectures and there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get an A.
She has long lectures but you don't really have to pay attention, there is a lot of extra credit, 2 mandatory dance concerts but they aren't bad, and half the tests are open note.
Long boring lectures but as long as you take notes she tells you what 50% of the questions are on the test. 7 Tests all of which are open notes, and three mandatory dance concerts which you do have to pay for ($15 per concert). If you take notes or have a friend take notes you should have an easy A.
Her lectures are very boring, but she knows her stuff well and cares about dance immensely. Don't bother buying the textbook - you can just Google the terms if you need to. The concerts were interesting, but if you don't want to drop $45 on tickets for the semester you'd be better off taking another course. An easy A.
Very sweet lady, though her lectures are boring. Be prepared for assigned seating. Have to attend concerts outside of class and pay the price out of pocket; and take a quiz after. Easy A with little effort. Exam guides are provided for each exam; but its best to write down things said and watched in class as it may appear on the exam
Advice from someone who scrambled to pass: -- Take class seriously from the start--it affects GPA as much as those in your major. --Get book and use it--test questions based on it as well as discussion and videos. Takes off for too many skips -- Go to concerts and take good notes -- No extra credit and bump-ups for higher grade --Read syllabus --
Interesting if you pay attention and study a bit. Some whine about it, but workload isn't that demanding. Extra credit no longer available. She will help at times but heavy teaching load limits that. She won't listen to classroom lawyers arguing for higher grades by rounding up--grades based solely on points accummulated.
Mrs. Flach is very nice and passionate about dance but her tests are relentless as well as quizzes for the mandatory concerts (3 of them and they all cost money). She would ask questions like, What were the color of the dancers shoes? and other super specific things. Don't ever skip class the tests are extremely specific. Not an easy A.
Musical theater class interesting mix of dance technique and history of genre. Some research required for presentations, but much of class devoted to learning classic stage movement. An overlooked gem amid department emphasis on ballet and stuffy dramas, Need to be comfortable moving body.
All the exams are open note, and you get to print out the lecture outline and textbook pages. But, you will need to take notes based off of her lecture and the class videos. This class isn't stressful like my other classes, which I loved. Ms. Flach is also very fun to talk to. I can tell that she is very passionate about the arts.
A lot of people on here are saying Professor Flach is nice and an easy teacher. She is one of the rudest professors I've ever had, probably the rudest. Every class she talks down to anyone who asks a question, she is not a reasonable professor, doesn't let you come to her office hours. Very disrespectful to her students who have done nothing wrong
Not hard if you do work expected. As an older student, watched too many kids skip class and demand excessive attention or rescue much too late. USC overloads her--she teaches 5 classes plus directs concert, so she has little time for those who whine.
Watched her repeatedly answer same questions 4-5 times per class from those who don't pay attention or cruise Web. After that, she tells you to check syllabus that already has info. Unlikely to reply to emails seeking that, bump-up for higher grade or pleading for an extra hour or 2 of personal study help around exams.
The teacher is rude to any student who ask a question during class time. She constantly complains about her job and how long she is going to have to grade papers etc. over the weekend. She gives you an outline and explains if you look over it you will make an A. This is a false statement.
Go to class, read book and listen to lectures and you'll be fine. She will help some outside of class if you are doing that. But no prof is going to be a personal tutor as some in class expect. Allows you to use notes and other material for tests, but trade-off is she is a stickler for accurate spelling & other details.
Her test are SO specific and no multiple choice. She lets you print out notes, but that doesn't mean that one little tiny detail she said one time will be in your notes. There's 3 performances you attend and pay for, then take a long fill in the blank quiz. It's a bit much if you're not trying to pursue a dance career. also- assigned seats lol
West African Dance is really fun if you like being really active and learning a different kind of dance. Cindy teaches it in an easy way, but she brings in a former student to teach and that person works you really hard. There is a 15 min presentation with a partner (30 min total, a paper based on that presentation and a paper critiquing a ballet.
DO NOT take this class if you are looking for an easy A. The professor is very unpleasant and rude to her students. She constantly complains about her job and not having time to do things and answers every question with "it's on the syllabus". She lectures in a monotone voice the entire class and her quizzes and tests are way too specific.
Don't take if you want to be babied or loaf. Some work, but not overwhelming. Must go to 2-3 dance performances required by dept., but you won't be asked to analyze steps. You won't do well if you coast, so buy book and study instead of expecting to be entertained, show up occasionally and cruise Web in class.
Brings in other instructors to give you more well-rounded approach instead of just insisting her way is the only way. You also get a chance to learn how to play the drums. Not dance all the time--must do research project on a country.
Great coach for student choreographers--gives good advice without dictating decisions. Must keep written journal of progress.
Tough but fair--will work with you if there's a significant problem. But makes it clear getting the grade you want is your project. Don't count on coasting.
Do not take Professor Flach. Her class is not easy. Her exams are too specific, all fill-in the blank. You have to attend two dance performances these quizzes are so specific and hard as well and are fill-in the blank. She's also quite rude and complains all the time about not having enough time because she's "always grading." Don't take her.
The MOST BORING professor I've ever had. She stands and reads off a paper that she has also shared with you online but adds random notes here and there that you must write down if you want to pass. you get to use all notes on every exam if you print them out but this is the worst more boring class i've taken
Class not typical 101 level--more demanding, Don't take if you're lazy, want to be babied, not interested in dance or need a tutor. She knows her stuff and offers good insights. Former TA tells me she has up to 250 students in 4-5 classes per semester while overseeing student dance show, explaining why she is busy constantly with grading tests.
Good teacher and passionate about dance but reads off lecture outline entire class. Required to go to 2 concerts you have to pay at least $15 for each. Rarely used textbooks. 4 exams but are open note. Still have to pay attention and fill out the outline to do good on the test. 4 exams, 2 concert quizzes. Offers extra credit. She is overall good.
Take good notes in this class and you'll be fine. With that said, don't skip or you'll miss SO many answers on an exam as they're all open note. She offers extra credit if you need it, and as long as you are attentive and organized it should be an easy A.
Professor Flach is a nice lady but grades WAY too hard for a dance appreciation course. My entire class was made up of non dance majors which she voiced she was aware of, but yet the context of the course was for upper level dance majors at most. 1/10 and the 1 is for her being a nice lady. Other than that dont take this class for an elective.
A storyteller who highlights dance trends unfamiliar tor most of us. Will work with you on problems but don't expect her to be a pushover. Learned a lot more than expected, but it does require work beyond showing up and looking interested. Department requires you go to 2 performances but her tests focus on how it's done, not details of steps
You NEED to show up for class and pay attention. I was not very interested in dance but I took this elective and it worked out well. I took good notes and wrote down everything she said and the lowest grade I received on an exam was a 92. She gives you the outline and if you just write down details, you can be successful. - Senior
Listen in class, study a bit and you'll be fine. Don't expect to cruise. Didn't know much about dance, but learned much due to her commitment and insights. Her passion shines through. Fair grader, but there are a half dozen or so tests plus 2 concerts the department requires you to attend at your expense.
She is very nice and cares about students. You can't miss class because the tests are all on what she talks about and there are no presentation notes to copy. If you can't pay attention to lectures easily don't take this class. Tests were pretty fair, there are 4 tests and 2 performance papers you have to do based on the required performances.
USC lost a hidden gem when she retired in early 2024. She wasn't into self-promotion like some faculty but focused on making you a better dancer.
While not one for self-promotion, this professor truly helped me become a better dancer. With a focus on skill development over hype, the class was challenging but rewarding. Unstuck ai was a great study companion alongside the engaging lectures.
