She is very funny, and she tries to make the class interesting. basically all you need to know is the vocab. to pass this class very easy make sure you take notes.
if you study the notes you'll do good...she's the best teacher ive ever had...she always goes over stuff if you dont understand or if you tell her she's going to fast...she also offers extra credit...i recommend her to anyone taking biology
She was an amazing teacher! Always there to help, her lectures were very clear, and gave out alot of extra credit. The class is not hard, and she tries her best to make it interesting. I wish all profesors would teach like her. Take her if you can
Its not her fault if students dont do well, the tests are ridiculous!! Her material and notes (overhead)are clear and helpful. She gave us "cheat sheet" material on the board, gave extra credit and lowered the grading scale a ton! She is cute and fun and a good teacher who seems to love biology
she was one of the best professors I have ever taken. she helps students who ask and will go out of her way if you are trying. I recommend her if you are willing to try, but if you aren't it's your own fault for not getting a good grade.
WOW...easy easy easy! wut else can u say?? study the notes...dont even gota read the book..and tests...WHAT A BREEZE! and the extra credit...no way anybody can fail...!!!!!!!!!
great teacher...highly recommended
All the notes are outlined in powerpoint, so all you have to do is copy the notes as she lectures and you'll pass for sure. Do the Geek Sheets and turn in the Current Event Report early for extra credit. She's awesome, funny, and a total dork. I love her!
She uses power point in all of her lectures, and the tests come straight from those notes. She also has a website that has study questions for each of the chapters. The final, however, is cumulative, but she does give you some chances for extra credit, which is a plus. She doesn't take role, but you should go everyday. She really helps you out.
She makes the class a lot easier. There's extra credit and other assignments so the class isn't just based on tests, which I think improves your grade. You take notes every class, and as long as you study those you'll do great on the tests.
One of the better Biology teachers I have ever taken. Tests come straight from her power point lectures, just show up to to class daily. Also has chances for extra credit which really boosted my grade. Ask her questions and you'll almost always get the answer you're looking for. Also, her website has study questions, which are very helpful too!
The first exam screws you up. I recommend turning in the paper early for extra credit reports. You leave here class with writer's cramp.
The lectures are boring in my opinion, but the professor does try to make them clear and simple. She also gives extra credit to help your grade, which is very easy. The first test was sort of difficult since you don't know what she's looking for, but she does base her tests on her lectures.
She was awesome! Her lectures are fun and there is no need for textbooks if you come to class everyday. Tests are ALL based on her lectures and she covers everything that will be on the test. As long as you write down all the notes and study them before the test, you'll pass. I learned a lot from this class. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!!!
This class was so easy and it wasnt boring at all. She writes all the notes on powerpoint. You dont need the book the tests are directly from the notes. Shes also the nicest professor ive ever had. I would recommend her to anyone.
Good bio class. Her tests all pretty much come from her lectures, I hardly used the book. There are 3 exams and a final which is cumulative but surprisingly not as hard as I thought it would be. Also there is a current event assignment which is pretty easy but turning it in early for extra credit helps a lot.I would recommend it to anyone.
Malone is amazing. The class isn't an easy A, but if you are dedicated and gifted, getting an A wouldn't be a problem. Must study notes from her powerpoint presentations before tests!! No need for book at all. Go to her office hours to clarify anything you don't get- she's way cool and cares about her students. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!
Cool professor! Very down to earth and can be quite comical at times =) 3 Exams + a final and you must study if you want to pass. No need for the book, just copy the notes from the PPT presentations and study that. Not an easy A, but easily accomplishable.
AWESOME! All you need to do is take notes (slide show), review them before tests, and you're good to go! YOU REALLY DON'T NEED THE BOOK FOR THIS CLASS... I never opened it and i studied my notes.. i got an A!!! EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! not boring at all... A++++
I LOVE Professor MALONE. She's way cool. Power point lectures, she's funny, her quizzes are to the point as is her exams. If you study the notes you'll do well. TWO THUMBS UP!!!
ok...she changed since finding out students cheat in her class. you can manage to get a good grade if you're a speed test taker which i'm not. her exams are lenghty and nearly at least half of the class are still figuring out the answers 5 minutes before she calls time.
She's a great teacher, incredibly fair, always available to help out the students, and has such a positive attitude and really excited to be teaching at CSUN. Of course the idiots who cheat in the class screw it up for the rest of the class, but there is plenty of opportunity to do well in the class. Just study hard, her class is fun, shes great!!
She is great and lovely. Genetics is hard, but she makes it possible. I wish her the best.
Awesome prof! She is very helpful, funny, and knowledgable...as long as you dont cheat! She takes cheating really seriously and always catches the cheaters. If you want to learn INTERESTING and useful stuff, she's the best! Always there to help after class too. She is one of the best professors at CSUN!!!
She is fair, understanding, and available for help. She does NOT like cheating, so be careful! Fun class to have.
unbelievable - works out too! how does she do it all - and catches the cheaters too. amazing. you go girl!
Great teacher! Take her for any class you can! Always available for help and tests are based off of the notes, but the book might be necessary for minor clarification. Sometimes she'll throw things in from the book, but not often
Shes great. Teaches really well, explains clearly, always happy answer questions and her lectures are interesting. Just do notttttt plagarise on your paper. You'll get a zero for sure
Dr. Malone is a great teacher and makes you interested because she is interested. One research paper, about 5 quizzes, 3 tests. She is understanding and helpful. Very sweet. Recommended!
good teacher, but everything you need can be done on your own. all powerpoint slides online and doesn't do much off of there. Read the book it will help,do all extra credit because it adds up. The final for this class was one of the easiest finals on the basics of genetics. you don't have to work too hard for a good grade but an effort is a must
Her test are very hard. she doesn't explain well. She also change her mind a lot.
She explains everything in a fun manner.
She's freaking awesome... tried to make the boring subject material fun and easy to understand. Tests aren't that easy, but if you do the extra credit and do good on the online quizzes it adds up.
really good overall, I would take her for genetics. GOOD THINGS: very nice, helpful, funny (not intentionally), tests are fair if u study, curves somewhat. BAD THINGS: dont buy textbook (dont need it), u must get test avg of 55% or above or else u cant take final/u fail, final must be 55% or above or else u fail even if u did better on past tests
Malone is an awsome teacher. She is challenging but super clear. The homework is not mandatory but you should do it if you want to pass the class. The Tests are just like the homework. You have to buy the book to succeed in this class. I thought it was going to be a boring class but she made it really fun and interesting. She is really funny too.
Great Professor!! i didn't buy the book but i only missed 2 classes. She is funny, makes the subject interesting. I LEARNED A lot!! She's a very sweet lady, her tests aren't hard as long as you follow her lectures and review your notes. I HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED PROF. MALONE! best prof. i have had. Do the extra credits it adds up!!
Bio 360 IS A TOUGH COURSE. I managed to get through the class by doing the following: 1) going to class and listening to her lecture, 2) BUYING THE BOOK/SOLUTION MANUAL and doing the suggested problems, 3) enrolling the SI section (it was so helpful), 4) seeing Malone in her office. You must, must do practice problems- the book is needed for this.
She is the best. Before taking the class, I was scared because I heard that she is very hard. However, if you go to the lectures everyday, she gives you hint what is going to be on the test. Go to lectures and you will be fine. Also very funny, you will never be bored.
At first, this class is very difficult and frustrating. More than half the class failed the first exam! As it goes on, though you get into the system and it becomes easier. I really learned a lot and only truly appreciated her after the class was over. The exams are dense and not enough examples are given in class. Do the paper early and save time!
It was a great class, very helpful and understanding. This was the only class that I have actually learned something in a sem class. I highly reccomend this class for all grad student. for the few grad students believes that she is not good, they better off quit the program and join the team of burger king crew.
great class, you actually earn more than what you deserve. She is veryunderstanding and down to earth. highly recccccommmmmend
Eh. She's funny and entertaining, but apparently that's not enough to understand complicated genetic concepts. Lectures were mainly PowerPoint, which is painfully common in science departments (professors in the field are usually communication-retarded). She's enjoyable, but her teaching methods are just not quite enough to understand the material.
This professor does not teach bio 380, so ignore the comments for that class. for biol 360, she has high expectations and you must do the homework problems if you want to pass the course. TAKE THE SI class offered to go along with it - will definitely help you with problem-solving.
Her class is no joke. You HAVE to put in work to survive, or you'll be left in the dust. Fortunately, she is extremely helpful. Her notes are available online, so you can look back at stuff you missed, she does a good job in class of explaining the material, and she gives a boatload of extra credit. She's a good professor but be prepared to do work
GREAT PROFESSOR! She keeps everything very easy to understand, and will NOT make you memorize useless information. If you can remember the big picture, you can pass this class. She enjoys showing short videos, and is very funny in a corny way. TAKE THIS CLASS, you will not regret it. Oh, and attendance is not mandatory -> lectures online :)
This class is so much fun! Professor Malone is so funny and makes the subject matter interesting and fun. If you have a hard time with bio she offers extra credit and you can talk to her during her office hours. She is very helpful and understands the subject area very well. This class was the best for me this semester!!!!!
Biology in general is not an easy class but she makes the class fun. You don't have to worry about remembering useless information. She's very funny and shows short videos. Take the practice tests, they really help.
Prof. Malone is awesome! She is sooo funny nd she shows us the craziest youtube viedos. Her class is fun nd all her lecture notes are online! Best Bio class ever!
She is a GREAT teacher!!! very helpful and explains everything crystal clear until you understand it as well as she does. she's really goofy and funny so the classes are fun and entertaining. all you have to do is go to class 90% of the time and LISTEN to what she says in the lectures(it'll be on the test) and you'll pass with an A or B
very funny. she dressed as a hot dog for halloween. very nice. tons of extra credit, DO IT.attendance is not mandatory, all the lectures are online, no need for the book. i deserved a lower grade than what i received thus showing you how nice, understanding she is and how the extra credit will save you. HIGHTLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
this teacher is absolutely amazing. she is one of the best lecturer in CSUN with tons of great personality. Her tests are easy, just read the book. Lectures are very helpful and interesting so i recommend you attend but you really don't have to. AMAZINGGG PROFESSOORR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EASY A++++++++++++
She makes class fun, teaching style is ok...but you will enjoy goig to class. I would def take her again, not an easy A but def an easy B(especialy with all the extra creit and easy paper!!)
She is very funny professor. She is not professional, when she is teaching, She says bad words in the class. When i got to her class, i dont learn any at all. It doesnt matter, how great you do in your papers, quizzes or extra credit, it doesn't help you pass the class. I will not recommond taking her class again. Her lectures are horrible!!!
Study your butt off for the first test!! Do good on that, and you will do good for the semester (the rest is easier).
She's a kick ass teacher. All you need to do is attend class and study for her tests at least a few days in advance. I recommend that you review the notes and write down things you don't remember that well so that you can engrave them in your mind prior to the exam. It's not an easy class, but you will succeed if you put in the time and effort.
This class was hard. She flew through a chapter a day and wasn't very clear at all. You definitly need to study on your own. She's a fun teacher but I didn't really learn anything.
If you can't get an A in this class you need to rethink your major. Super nice professor and funny! Makes learning a pleasure! A must take!!
she is nice in class, but her assignments are not clear and her exams are hard.
She's really nice and funny and you can tell she's passionate about what she teachers. Attendance is not mandatory because all of her slides are online. She's very helpful in class and is always willing to answer questions.
NOT a kickass teacher at all, infact most of the time STRUGGLES to get her point accross, she has her little favourites in class and unless you are her type you have no chance.Yes, do study hard...but good luck getting by!
Funny professor, makes the subject interesting. Has 3 tests, 1 final, and 1 essay. The essay is simple, just don't plagiarize. The tests focus more on the slides but the book is needed if you want an A. The course is definitely passable as long as you attend all of the lectures if that's all you want. Overall, good prof.
Dr Malone is an awesome professor in this course. She is super clear on her material in lecturing and all four exams are all based on her powerpoints and notes and lectures and one final, all total five exams are total of 50 questions. Highly recommended!
awesome professor. you have to study for her exams but she gives you everything you need on her powerpoint, i only read 2 chapters in the book. very helpful. i would definitely recommend taking her class.
If Dr. Malone didn't have a husband and two children, I would marry this woman. Even those factors don't act as much of a deterrent. Her lectures are always coherent, engaging, and exciting. It's a difficult task but she actually makes biology fun. Any professor that can correlate science and fun gets an A+ in my book. Here's to you Malone!
This professor is just amazing! Her lectures are fun and to the point. She tells you what you need to know. Her teaching methods are effective because the information is retained and easy to apply. She does make you think hard during tests. After all we have brains for a reason. There is no reason to pass this class with flying colors.
Dr. Malone is one of those rare professors who can teach a subject as complicated as Genetics, and be able to have fun with the class at the same time. She is just like a kid! Tons of energy and really knows the subject at hand. She's a great person, will make you laugh guaranteed...I mean it. :D Also, she is really really really GORGEOUS.
One of the first classes I took in college and I'm glad it was! Professor Malone is extremely helpful and is very energetic. She has so much to share with the class and it's not in a way that's overbearing or weird. She's a great teacher and makes even the most boring subjects interesting! If you're willing to put in the time definitely take her!
GREAT professor! I love going to this class. She is hilarious and open to answering any questions. This class has really fun and interesting discussions... Definitely recommend her!!
I LOVE Professor Malone, She is hilarious and really knows her stuff. She loves to show youtube videos and crack jokes during her lecture, there are 4 midterms and a final each worth 100 points, But she offers tons of extra credit quizzes online and an extra credit assignment which is worth 100 points, one whole midterm!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Very funny and energetic, but wish she would tell people to stop talking during class. It was nonstop and it was hard to hear her.
Greeeat professor! Don't be fooled by a name like Cindy, she curses like a sailor! Hilarious and very helpful! You'll get through this class just fine if you KEEP up, pay attention, and attend regularly. Great at keeping students engaged.
Really fun and entertaining! She makes learning biology fun by relating it to things us young people like haha. She cusses a whole lot but I love her! All she says in class is SEX
I love her ! Even though I got a C in her class she was so entertaining and you can tell she really is passionate/knowledgeable of the subject. She's crazy and wears different hats and she has a sense of humor that last throughout the semester. TAKE HER if you can and most importantly STUDY STUDY STUDY.
She is very entertaining and has a great sense of humor, it makes her lectures less boring. I got C's on all her exams and the final. I never bought the book, and I still got a B in the class. You have to take advantage of the quizzes on moodle because most of it will end up counting as extra credit, and it boosted me a whole letter grade!
Malone is great! She always trys to be funny and sometimes succeeds! Class is alright, there's days were her lectures are more interesting than others. Take advantage of all the extra credit and do good on all the online quizzes!! Class isn't hard, just pay attention to the material and you should be fine!! Didnt do great on the exams and got a B-
I love her! She's really funny and she keeps class entertaining. Not strict about being late/attendance. She bases her teaching on presentations that she posts online for you. Her tests are not too hard as long as you take notes during class. Without a doubt, my best professor.
Prof Malone is awesome! She makes class so much and is very helpful when needed. She tries to relate the class notes to everyday life which makes it easier to understand. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!
i would recommend her, she is super helpful, just go to class take notes and you'll get at least a B its alot of material and not easy concepts but she can help if your confused take her she is awesome!
Awesome teacher! she is very entertaining and it makes it super easy to learn in the class. i hated bio before this class and always failed and i wound up getting an A. Lots of extra credit! Best teacher out there!
She is the best teacher I had ever had in besides a few teachers. She would try to keep the class entertained and give a lot of opportunities to help get a good grade in the class, attend class take notes and do good on the quizzes and exams and take advantage of the extra credits, you will pass the class with no lower than a B.
This class is easy to pass as long as you study and do the work, as well as attend the class sessions. She both teaches and entertains and cuss once in a while, and cracks a few funny jokes. Has tons of extra credit opportunities and is a funny teacher, take this class.
She's awesome. She is so enthusiastic when she teaches. You can tell she;s passionate about biology, even though she swears a lot. I recommend her if you need to take bio 107. Her lectures are recorded online, and her exams are literally what is on the powerpoints. Just attend class and take some really good notes and you can pass this class.
Straightforward and cares about her students. She's specific about what will be on the midterms and final; as long as you dedicate time to study you will do fine.
Dr. Malone is a gift to CSUN! She is intelligent, enthusiastic and entertaining! She has a class of 150 students and genuinely cares about each one! She's not just your Professor; she's your Mentor, your counselor, your cheerleader! She wants us all to do well and push ourselves and if you can't Ace her class then you didn't try, did you. Funny!!!
Malone is great! She's funny and really passionate about Biology. Just be sure to watch her lecture-capture and to read the book! No hw, just easy weekly quizzes.
Hands down best teacher ive had in CSUN!! She's funny and makes the class very very interesting! 3 midterms, pretty difficult, could only get B's ;/ But gives alot of extra credit points! weekly online quizes 6 quetions max. NO HW, Got a C on my final and overall an A :) If i could take her again i definitely would!
She is very bright and cool professor. She knows her very well and try to make clear as much as she can. Three midterms and final are fine as long as you study handout and read textbook. A lot of extra credits help you to get good grade. RECOMMENDED!
She's really cool and keeps you interested in class, but her exams are absolutely nothing like what she teaches. Unless you know the material like the back of your hand than I would recommend not to take her.
I wouldn't recommend, although the material itself is really difficult, she makes her exams even more difficult. She will word it to confuse you. She's really funny and approachable, but that won't do much for my grade
Personally I wish I would have taken someone else. She's very approachable but it's easy to fall behind in class. The class itself is not difficult but her exams are. Study, study, study!!! If you want to get at least a B you will have to put in a lot of work
I would not recommend!!! She is great person but as a teacher her exams are ridiculous. She made one so hard that the average was below a 45%. Try to avoid!!!
Her tests are too hard. She's really nice but I would not recommend to take her for 107. We took the midterm and final the same day and everyone did good on the midterm but failed the final cause we couldn't study for both. This class was made for you to retake it. I was a 3.6 student and got a D in her class.
Dr. Malone is probably the coolest , sweetest prof. i've taken a class w/ @ CSUN but the class was easier than it should have been. I felt I didn't learn as much as I should've in a gen. bio class. Lectures is sub-par as she's not succinct at all with the material. Easy EASY class, but don't expect to come out of it with a mastery of the material.
Dr. Malone is very good at explaining concepts. Some of the exams were quite challenging, but if the class average of tests was too low she adjusted the test and turned frequently missed questions into extra credit. Plus there were other ways of scoring a few extra points. I would take her again for another bio class.
Best bio professor at Csun!!
Tests are difficult some more than others. I got a B but studied really hard for it. You have to put in a lot effort and hours studying to do well.
RUN AWAY! Lectures are oversimplified and questions in the book are never either relevant to the material she focuses on or the questions are never as complex as the type of questions she asks on the exams. Exams consist of many vague yet complex questions and not enough time.
Way too simplified and you get something completely different on exams. You listen and she emphasizes on some stuffs so much and you think ooh this will deifnitely be on the exam and you see like half a question on that topic. Crack way too many jokes instead on focusing on the material.
Way too simplified and you get something completely different on exams. You listen and she emphasizes on some stuffs so much and you think ooh this will deifnitely be on the exam and you see like half a question on that topic. Crack way too many jokes instead on focusing on the material.
Very nice and easy to approach. I am not the serious type but she jokes way too much during lecture which made it difficult to focus at times. The subject itself hard Her tests seemed very different from the homework and examples given were too simple. She is very tricky! Make sure you know how to do problems forwards and backwards. Literally.
Her exams are hard. She doesn't curve and it is difficult to earn extra points. She will never give you points because she messed up. Instead she'll give you more questions on the next quiz so you have a chance to earn "more" points. Take this course with someone else.
She's boring, not funny, and her exams are difficult.
She is by far one of the BEST Professors at CSUN! She is funny and makes the class interesting. She is a true gift to the students. Not only is she is fair but she wants her students to succeed in her class. Take her if you get the chance. You will not regret it! I wish that she taught more classes I could take with her!
Her tests are kind of challenging but are completely fair. You're going to have hard classes if you're a bio major get used to it. I tried to pay attention during lectures, went to plf's and would study a few days before each exam. I got an A. If you can't get an A in this class you should change your major.
AMAZING teacher, notes are perfect, helps you a lot, but TESTS ARE SO HARD. There tricky but if you know the info you'll pass
I will take ANY class taught by this professor. She is funny and very knowledgeable. Do your homework its imperative! Don't miss class! You have to work hard but I got an A. You can't keep up if you miss class, to much information. A lot of lectures to listen to outside of class and a lot of homework. Homework helps you pass this class.
She's amazing! Best teacher ever, seriously. Study for her quizes, it will help you a lot. And do the hw! The tests aren't that hard, if you study they'll sound very easy. The final is so easy that I couldn't believe! And I didn't study that much. I really recomend Cindy Malone! She's amazing, funny and fair.
She is one of the best professors in Biology department. If you ask her a question she will explain the whole lecture to you just to make sure you understand it 3 You have to attend all of her classes, take notes and review the slides multiple times in order to get a good grade. Highly recommend her.
Dr. Malone is a great prof! She's very clear on lectures and offers a lot of extra credit. You j have to study her lecture slides, know it in depth, watch lecture cap, and you'll be fine. I had no prob w. Her exams, she wasn't an easy prof I had to study a lot, but it was doable. You'll learn a lot. If you plan to study the night before don't take
Malone is average. When she falls behind, she expects you to catch up by watching her tutorials. Sometimes expects you to watch almost 10 tutorials, do tutorial hw, online hw all before class. You spend more time than needed learning on your own. She can be very unorganized and not always prepared. Take if you can keep up with unorganized.
She is the best at replying to emails quickly and efficiently. She doesnt leave one student behind even with hundreds of students! She encourages me when i do good on tests to keep up the good work!!
Cindy is really cool, she does assign a lot of work online but the due dates for the material are always due the night before an exam so you know what to expect and you can do it on your own time. Her lectures are pretty interesting and she's super smart and really funny. Recommend her :)
I loved this class, I sucked at socilogy and physiology but i aced bio because of malone, she's really clear and her lecture slides are exactly what are on the tests you are expected to study so if you don't like studying don't take the class, you can fall behind very easily thats why its important to keep up with the material that she is teaching
Good teacher who also gives a good amount of extra credit. She had 3 exams, 1 "rewrite a research paper in your own words", final and daily quizzes. The class is curved already and her tests are based off of the lectures and slides. She can be unorganized, but have a general idea of the next lecture slides to do good on the quizzes for bonus point.
Professor Malone is amazing, she gives you the basics you need to know especially if you are not a science major. She gives a lot of extra credit and helps you out in what she can. She is also very funny and always answers to emails. take her!!!!!!!!
She is seriously one of the best professors at CSUN! She makes her class interesting and she is super funny. She tries to help you out every way possible! definitely should take her!
Professor Malone was an amazing instructor!! Do all your work and extra credit offered and you will pass with a good grade! During my time in her class I had done all the assignments and extra credit offered, but did not do good on my tests (4 total) but still passed with a B! She is funny and makes things interesting. TAKE PROFESSOR MALONE!! :)
Professor Malone is a really easy going teacher. Just do all the online work and you will definitely pass. Go to class to understand powerpoints. Study well for the tests. It's a very easy class and she gives you a lot of opportunities to get points. I definitely recommend her!
she's funny, but she may have had too many things on her plate during the semester which led to an extremely disorganized lecture schedule. Lecture captures were done for homework while we wasted class time. Tests are hard and really tests your knowledge (which is good), but also written in a very confusing way. Class isn't meant for ipad tests.
This is the best Bio prof I have taken so far. She is crystal clear if you write down everything she says. She cares about students understanding material. If you study the material in depth than the tests will be a piece of cake however if you do not plan to study, don't take her. I wish she taught every Bio class at CSUN.
Dr. Malone has a strange way of teaching this class particularly, but I learned more about reading scientific papers than I ever have in a while. Fantastic ways of teaching how to read the literature and gives multiple opportunities to practice giving speech. Also her exams are taking what you learned in class and applying said knowledge.
Okay, so Malone is by far one of the best professor at CSUN. The people who complain about her are lazy. Quit whining and start studying.
Worst professor ever. I hardly learned anything in this class. Everyone just came to take the quiz and exam and left. She claimed she was just too busy with her research and just had us listen to lecture captures. Gives us daily quizzes, iPad uploads, 3 midterms and 1 final. IPad exams were hard, but fair. Suggest you not take.
Amazing person, decent lecturer. Must watch hours of tutorials per week BUT the videos are pretty helpful. Not a hard class, shes just unorganized. extra credit HW, moodle uploads, weekly quizzes, 3 tests, 1 final. Do the problems, WATCH THE VIDEOS - therell be few surprises! ITS SELF STUDY. do the work & ull be fine! do the extra credit!
She is a nice person but super unorganized, all over the place!!!! to the point that affects students grades, she always says don't worry I will add extra points here and there but at the end of the semester that help wont give you the grade you deserve. Her test are not that hard, she is just unfair with the timing. I had a terrible experience!
One of my favorite professors at CSUN! Always willing to help. If you're here complaining about the class then you probably just didn't study much.
You will need to put tons of time and effort into this class. Do NOT let yourself fall behind. Quizzes almost every class. Tons of outside videos, could add up to hours of videos a week, so get ahead of those. With videos, comes online assignments as well. Not an easy class at all, but you will learn a lot. She is very approachable though!
She's great. Let's just put it at that.
Upbeat, Accessible, and Relatable.
Dr. Malone is fantastic. This is a VERY difficult class that is very lecture heavy and you HAVE to study her lectures and supplement with the book to do good. Her office hours are a MUST. She explains one-on-one very legibly and makes difficult concepts easy to understand. The classroom is not enough for you to do well. Don't be lazy & you'll pass.
This review is based on my time in Bridges. She is the coordinator for this program. I personally thought that Malone lacks leadership and professionalism. Her I dont care vibe is strong. Her emails arent reliable and she is rude. We had many problems within our cohort and she did NOTHING - even when the complaints were verbal abuse.
Dr. Malone takes on way too much & it showed during our time in Bridges. She is very unorganized & was not great at handling issues within the cohort. When people were having a hard time in the program she was not the person to ask for help. Lacks empathy. Honestly Malone if you see this, please let someone else run the program. Take a break.
Bridges program was great. Got to basically pioneer my own research at UCLA. However, the program does suffer from the one being Dr. Malone who ceased communication with me and others when we had problems in labs. She was rude and unorganized. Today she emailed us to give positive reviews and I don't she deserves it. These reviews are earned. Sorry
Too much work for a 100 level 2-unit class. Every week you must do 2 Inquizitive HW, and 4 quizzes. Work isn't hard, but she expects way too much work and time for a GE class, that i'm rushing to do assignments rather than learn. Just simply not worth the time and effort, to be honest. Take a different professor!
Dr. Malone is such an exceptional professor. Basically, the best thing that can happen to an undergrad is taking Dr. Malone and BIO247L. She pushed me to join the UCLA Bridges Research program and changed my life. Her class introduced me to a field I never thought I would be into and the course and Bridges program gave me so many opportunities.
Professor Malone teaches an important life lesson. The lesson is if you want to succeed you must work hard. There are no handouts in her class and thats exactly the way it should be. She runs her class in an orderly manner. I have noticed that those who say her class is unorganized are usually unorganized themselves. She pushes students to succeed
She was honestly a great professor during covid times. Her pre recorded videos before starting an assignment were funny and overall, it was a lot of weekly assignments that at times did pile up but were at my own pace. She gives a small percentage penalty for late assignments after everyday. I honestly don't like science but this was a chill online
So much homework due everyday! Before the first day of class she required a whole 10 assignments to be completed. It seemed as she was overworked because she was never prepared for lectures and when she did lecture it was a mess.
Teaches the material the simplest way she can so thats good. Exams are extremely hard to prevent cheating. Quiz every class. Tons of videos and uploads before going to class and hw for every chapter. Test are 60% of your grade.
She taught 1/3 of the Genetics course this semester. Having three different profs for one course was already difficult enough. She was extremely disorganized, condescending sometime when questions were asked, and either graded things wrong or didn't grade assignments at all. Avoid this prof if you can.
H*rrible!!! Really, this is a 100 level class yet she gives us quizzes every 3 days. She is confused and first said we need to commit 9hrs of time to this class, then says 6hrs after she realizes this is a 2 UNIT CLASS. I didnt learn anything tbh. the whole class (groupme) felt stressed the whole semester. avoid if you value your sanity..
I wish I had more room to write. This class was like taking a five unit class in workload. There are many tests and she gives you a minute or less per question. Many other students I spoke with were struggling as well. I emailed her about it and she told me "I didn't read your email. . .drop the class." Find another teacher because she isn't one.
Dont take this class unless you have time to spend 3 days a week minimum on homework. I took this class because she has good ratings and I really regret it. Tests and quizzes are timed, I have barely enough time to read the questions. Way too many assignments, especially for a 100 course. Shes uncompromising and condescending.
Holy moly, I'm sure this class might be more tolerable if it were in person, but the amount of work is truly astonishing. This is easily comparable to a 400 level class in work. It's easy enough work, but many of her questions in quizzes and tests are unclear and you need to play mind games just to get the questions. Seriously, do not take her!
The content itself is easy, but it is BY FAR the most time consuming course in my schedule, even taking two 300-level courses. Prof. Malone herself is fine, she tries to add humor into her lectures, but her complete lack of understanding for her students is why I warn you to avoid at all costs.
Wish I could rate her 0, took this class because she had good ratings. waaaaay too much homework. The questions are easy but the number of assignments have you working on this class multiple days. No textbook but you have to pay for the Inquizitive and its like 50$
Gave 33 assignments due during spring break, take this class only if you LOVE homework and want to do literally nothing but busy work day and night.
Terrible. Doesn't really teach much, just likes to show videos and gives quizzes. Arrogant and rude. Thinks she is to good to be a professor at CSUN but apparently that was the best job she could get. Take someone else.
Do the work before the class officially starts. Otherwise you're stuck with 16+ assignments due every Sunday for the rest of the semester. Materials are provided. Assignments are incredibly time consuming. Proceed her class with caution.
BIOL476-Every assignment was busywork. Constant test bank errors on quizzes. If you want to learn about stem cells, google YT videos because that's the majority of the class anyway. Academically, this class is easy enough to be done by a child. Psychologically, it is the hardest class I have ever taken. Prof would be bearable if this was 3rd grade.
the WORST possible professor to ever exist. So incredibly arrogant and rude and truly believes everyone has an endless amount of time to work on her redundant assignments that come straight from other people's lectures and videos. I am someone who doesn't mind working for a grade But her class is genuinely just insane.
#1 Professor @ CSUN. Went through each genome module with us at the end of the week. Allowed retakes on quizzes (she sets up her class so that you can pass with an A), recorded funny lectures to help explain the topics. Helped us on our group genome projects at the end of semester. I have nothing negative to say about Prof.Malone or her classes.
My favorite professor at CSUN. Took her GEP course & she was super helpful & made sure we were able to submit our annotation for review. She makes learning fun & is sympathetic to her students & willing to work with you if something comes up. She's passionate about her field & knows a lot. I would take any class with her.
Dr. Malone is a very enthusiastic & approachable professor. Class was online but lectures were videos and a lot of short home works over canvas. Exams in person and you gotta study for those. Multiple choice and not totally easy but not totally hard. Learned a lot about stem cell biology and we also did research journal analysis and presentation.
