If you dread accounting but have to take it, you need to take Cindy Gruber. She's really nice and a fantastic teacher and can make anyone understand the material. Exams are not easy but she's more than willing to help if you have questions. I hated accounting but loved her as a teacher and I would definitely recommend her to everyone.

Gruber was a great teacher who provided hand outs for every chapter. there is alot of homework in this class but stay up to date! her teaching style is very understandable and she is extremely approachable.

The best out of all 3 ACCO 30 teachers. If you’ve never taken ACCO or have hard time understanding Business stuff, this is your only hope. Clear explanations, extra help, review sessions, handouts, etc... ACCO 30 exams are like the Da Vince code but that’s because another teacher makes them.

Go to class, pay attention, do the homework and you'll be fine. She gives handouts at the beginning of each chapter which are really helpful. She also uses examples that are easy to relate to and do a good job of explaining the concepts. I would definitely reccomend taking her!!

Gruber is a great teacher, one of the best I've had at Marquette. It's not an easy task making accounting interesting, but she manages to do it. To do well in the class though you have to put the work in, it is by no means an easy A.

Great professor. She knows her stuff and, more importantly, knows how to teach it to you. She repeats herself a lot, but in the end it is basically impossible for you not to understand the material. Also very willing to help, and hold 2 hour review sessions right before the exam. Do what she asks and you will have no problem getting an A.

Never had an interest in accounting before taking Gruber, took her for both financial/managerial and was very good teacher. The tests are only difficult if you don't take class notes / review the book. I got a A both semesters with her, would recommend taking.

No matter what professor you take the class will be difficult, but Gruber is definitely the best for the class and my favorite professor I've had at Marquette. Very clear and makes everything understandable. Exams are hard but pay attention in class and do the homework and you'll do just fine.

Accounting is definitely a HARD class, you MUST do your HW nightly and study a lot! Gruber is a great prof and her lectures drill the concepts in your head. Make sure to understand 1st month of the course, it's the foundation for everything else. Must study the practice exams to know what types of ?s are asked. Put in the work and youll be rewarded

Dr. Gruber is truly amazing. As an accounting major, I found her class to be extremely helpful. As of now (the end of the semester) I have an A! So it's possible to obtain an A. However, I must say, be prepared to work hard. IF you don't work hard, don't attend classes, sleep during classes, then expect not to do so hot.

All the accounting teachers have the same exams, but I felt that Gruber did a very good job of preparing us for each exam. I always felt that I understood the material pretty well going into the exams. I would definitely take her again.

Professor Gruber is that type of teacher that enjoys her job. She teaches with the heart, and is always able to explain what you don't understand in a way that makes sense. Her classes aren't necessarily easy, but having her as a teacher and as a resource makes the class worth it. Plus, you'll get a friend out of having her as a teacher.

I had Gruber for Managerial Accounting. She is a wonderful professor and really makes sure her students understand the material. She is so helpful outside of the class, informing you of possible internships and companies visiting campus. Her lectures are amazing and gives easy to read notes (doesn't like the book). Shes always available. Pls Take!

Gruber is by far the best ACCO teacher. She provides nice supplemental material, such as chapter outlines, practice exams, and the hw problems. Don't need the book. Her lectures can seem a little long and sometimes she goes quick, but so useful. Packs the 50 mins with great info. So helpful for the test. Sit up front, don't skip, & take good notes.

I don't think it's possible to be a better professor than Gruber. Going into this class, I had no interest in accounting, but now it will likely be my major. The class is supposed to be extremely difficult, but I have done well just by doing the homework and listening closely to Gruber's lectures every class. Highly recommend.

She clearly spells it out how to be successful in these challenging courses, but you definitely have to work for it. Accounting is a demanding course, but she makes you want to work hard.

Professor Melis was one of the best teachers that I have ever had. If you are taking Accounting, Professor Melis needs to be your teacher. As difficult as Accounting may be, she explains the material extremely well and gives countless examples to help you understand the material. And, as a bonus, she genuinely cares about educating her students.

Managerial accounting is a very difficult class but she helps you get through it. She's a gem.

This is an amazing class. Most people found accounting is hard and lots of my friends failed. but you will pass this class very easy with professor Melis if you really understand what she told in class. She is an amazing professor. She talks fast but her lecture is clear. I took her for ACCO 1001 and 1002 and did very well on the test.

Accounting 1030 is a tough class no matter who you take, but she is the best teacher out of all the ACCO professors at MU. Her notes are very detailed and organized. 4 exams make up most of the overall grade. TAKE HER.

If you have the option, you have to take Melis, hands down. She makes the class fun (or as fun as accounting can be) by including relevant examples and really diagnosing the information to make you better understand it. Homework isn't required, but if I can give one tip, do the homework before class! It really helps you understand what's going on.

There are only 4 exams in accounting so doing well on all of them is very important to pass. Professor Melis is one of those professors though that actually wants her students to do well. This class is the hardest class I've ever taken at Marquette (stats is up there too), but if you take Melis you have a better chance of passing than others.

Accounting was a nightmare that I had to withdraw from first semester. Took Melis (formerly Gruber) and accounting actually became one of my favorite courses. While still difficult, she goes through every topic and allows for questions at any time. You can really tell that she cares about the material AND the students.

Im a junior and took Professor Melis when I was a freshman. She is still to this day my favorite professor at Marquette. Walked into the class ready to hate accounting and walked out of the class with an enormous amount of love for the topic. She teaches with such enthusiasm that every student has to appreciate. Moral of the story, take her.

Melis is the best professor I've had at Marquette. She revisits the same big-picture ideas as we go through each chapter and she relates these topics to real-world situations we can understand/relate to. I do not read the book, only use it for homework. I would rewrite my notes/homework then type them after each lecture. Get online book and Chegg!

I had her for Financial Accounting, she was a great choice. I know other classes had more resources, but she covers the content we needed several times, so if you pay attention in class you should be good. She is really strict about people being late so try not to walk in after she has started.

I literally would not have passed accounting without her endless help. Her real life examples are funny and get the class going. I think she's definitely a favorite teacher of mine. Although accounting isn't necessarily the easiest course, it's manageable. Attend class, ask questions when confused, do homework, and you'll get at least a B.

Professor Melis is a true rockstar and one of my favorite professors at Marquette. She is able to give a very detailed, meaningful lesson and do it in 50 minutes. She comes in every day with a positive attitude that really makes you want to learn. If I had to take more accounting I would do everything in my power to get her as my professor.

Professor Melis is probably your best bet for an accounting prof at Marquette. I will say, this class is probably the hardest class I've ever taken. It was fully online and we were allowed to watch the prerecorded lecture videos on our own time. She provides "self-imposed" schedules and I would recommend following it or you'll struggle big time.

Professor Melis is a solid choice for accounting. The difference between her and Kren is minuscule in the sense of the quality of education. They have two separate styles, Melis' being largely through examples, while Kren is largely through mastering the concepts to assist you on problems. Both are great and it depends on what style you prefer.

I took Cindy for ACCO 1030 and 1031, and I am so thankful. If you're not super interested in accounting, it can be very difficult material, but Cindy is the absolute best intro professor you can have. She goes very fast sometimes but really really wants her students to succeed. Take her you won't regret it, just work hard in class.

Prof. Melis is by far the best business teacher I've had. She is so caring about each one of her students and wants to see them succeed. Her class runs the same for each chapter and she goes through identical examples to the homework that will be assigned usually once per week. I wish I could take her for every accounting class while at Marquette.

I loved her! If you go to class and write down her examples you will pass. Follow her How To Pass sheet and you'll do just fine. One assignment a unit could be a bit difficult but clear expectations. Her exams were rough. She's willing to work with you though and very caring!
