she gives a lot of examples in class that help me understand the material better. If you follow the studyguides than you should be able to pass the tests.

She knows her stuff. Had a lecture class, so not a whole lot of interaction. She seemed to try to make the lectures a little more interesting with telling things she's experienced, which help to explain some of the concepts. Lectures were straight from the text. Read the book and you're set.

This is one of the best professors I had in Chico and I only had two good ones.

Selby knows her stuff. She sticks to the text when making her overhead notes, and notetaking is 45 min/day. If you take and study the notes, you'll do fine in the class. She goes over info. really fast, so find a way to abbreviate on your notes if you can. She has funny stories and is down-to-earth.

Selby does stick to the book so it is easy to follow. Everyday is note taking and lecture, not much of anything to spice up the learning experience. The extra credit is good, the tests are okay, papers are easy, I just don't think she has much of a heart.

She is very energetic and fun. She tries to present the material in the most painless way possible. Gives a lot of practice problems which she gives the answers to in class for points. She is always there to answer any questions. Excellent teacher.

i thought she was a great teacher... always tried to make you understand the information by giving lots of examples. she talks to you like your in a class not a lecture hall... when she gets hot she fans herself with her papers and her bangs fly up.

Professor Selby is hillarious during lectures, she gives detailed accounts of her life to compare to the literature. Just keep up with the case studies, discussions and take notes for the test and you will pass. Lectures are entertaining and she shows video clips and we do activities during class. We love her!

Do all the work including all 10 of the discussions online. Class attendence is worth 20 points plus random days when she does in class assignments (go and you'll get full credit). Not a hard teacher, but I always seemed to do bad on the test even if I studied. Class lectures are fun. I think you'll like her. Take the class.

I LOVE THIS PROF. She presents the material in an easy to understand way. Go to class, do you assignments, and study for test and you'll do fine. Possible to think you got a 'A' on her tests, and actually get a 'C' though... all multiple-choice

I took psych during high school so I thought I would be bored stiff with this class, but I seriously enjoyed it due to her teaching style. She can take a room full of 40+ students and make it feel like she's having a direct discussion with you. Just do the online discussions and case studies and you'll be able to pull off a good grade.

I am taking my second class with Cindy. She is very personable and sweet. She loves to use real life examples from her own life and her teaching is really improving from my class last semester. She is becoming a great teacher! Seriously consider giving her a chance.

WEBCT is used in her class a ton. Attendence is HUGE. Go to her lecture, do the weekly online quizzs, weekly write-ups, case studies (ALL ONLINE) and you'll do fine. Objective exams-multiple choice, general info. Has study guides on webct that layout the exam questions literally to a "T" FUN CLASS, a definite must.

This prof. is amazing. She uses a great book and is super clear and complete with her lectures. EASY points are gained each week by taking online webCT quizzes(open book), and posting on her discussion boards. Selby is super funny and very helpful durring office hours. This is a great professor.

Cindy is an excellent professor she explains all the material clearly & therefore easy to follow the text she uses is also easy to follow! I strongly reccomend this professor for Psyc 101. If you work hard aside from her clear lectures then everything will run smoothly & there should be no problem when studying the material & getting a good grade!

Yes, Cindy is nice, but she is a lazy teacher! Week 1: ch 1, week 2: ch 2, etc. Lectures are JUST bulleted summaries of the chapters! Why even come to class if all she does is repeat the same thing our book said? She barely elaborates and basically just reguritates the book. All quizzes/homework are online. She shows no creativity in her teaching.

I loved this class. Even if you are not a PSYC major take this class. It is fun and Cindy is awesome. All assignments are done online. Easy A if you come to class. Tests are easy if you keep up with your notes.

I don't know how I got a B when I expected an A, but this class was easy and she is helpful. Based mostly off lecture but you NEED the book for the discussions. Do those and you will be fine.

She was a nice teacher, but a hard grader. Does not except any late work and takes attendance. all hw, quizzes, and tests are online so its pretty much open note. Very interesting subject, but wasnt excited about the attendance being taken! Shes a nice/great teacher tho!

I really liked her class. She's organized, her lectures are interesting and she provides relevant videos to go along with it. She explains things to the touch. She can be strict at times but overall she's nice and really helpful.

Great professor. Organized and clear. Follows syllabus completely. Quizzes and Critical Thinking Journals each week are a breeze as long as you do the reading. Tests online are open book, but still need to study because theres not enough time to search for every answer. Great at lecture. Watch lots of youtube videos that she relates to psych.

Amazing prof!!! And a genuinely nice person to boot! She is extremely organized and explanatory. Did the class in an interesting, role playing way. Learned a TON from her! Don't be afraid of the 20+ pg syllabus, her class is awesome! I wish she taught other classes I need, I'd take her again in a heartbeat! Very fair grader.

Took during intersession, a lot of material, but she made it very easy to follow. Quizzes (daily) and tests online- Make sure you study b/c you don't have time searching for one answer. Very organized and a really nice teacher.

I find her to be a great person, funny, honest...but her class format is redundant. You do a lot of case studies, which are different from a lecture format, but it does get exhausting. Be sure to do all the feedback forms, which take 5 minutes, because not doing them will cause you to lose major points. My bad!

One of the most applicable classes that I have ever taken. The case studies are a lot of work, however, if this is your major, this IS WHAT YOU WILL DO IN YOUR JOB! What more is school for than to prepare you for your future. Class is interesting and worth taking!

Her abnormal psych class has been by far my favorite class I've taken. The class is a lot of work, but it's always interesting and easy once you get the hang of it. She's an awesome woman and is often very funny. I really recommend you take her class over any other professor's!

Dr. Selby is awesome!!! She is funny, understanding, encouraging, and a joy to be around. Her abnormal psyc class is A LOT of work but she makes it fun and interesting. There are four quizzes in the first few weeks, then assignments galore, but you get to meet in groups and discuss concepts instead of listen to lectures.

Great professor. Definitely one of the best I've ever had, if not the best. Came back to take a different class from her the next semester. The class did have a lot of repetitive work, but it was practical and realistic work for psychology. Recommend her for anyone willing to take a class that's less lecture-oriented and more engaging.

I frickin love Selby. There's seriously a TON of work in this class, but it isn't difficult. Just go to class, that's all it takes. I missed very little class and showed up prepared and ended up with a 97% in the class. Just don't use your phone during class or she'll go bananas. She's funny , I'd take another class with her every semester.

Loved this class. Easy A if you go, but I didn't go much and still got an A. She takes attendance and has random attendance worksheets, watch out for that. Keeps good control of the class so it's easy to stay focused. She makes PSYC interesting

This professor is a great professor for PSYC 101! She is strict but she is a great professor. She makes psychology interesting and fun! Do keep in note that you should attend class everyday because she has these in class assignment and do give points for attendance. Her exams aren't really base on her quiz so be very well prepare for her exams.

LOVED LOVED LOVED Selby! She isn't typical in that she doesn't do lectures. For the first few classes, sure, but afterwards the class is very interactive. There's a lot of work that needs to be done but it's really interesting and worth the points. Not an easy class, but a really fun class where you learn a lot. Just takes a little getting used to.

Some people freak at the start because all the work but it gets to be routine and doesn't take much time when you get used to it. Start the midterm as soon as you get it and she is suuuuper helpful and nice if you ask for help. Attendance is mandatory for a good grade, gives up to 30pts extra credit too

Excellent professor. This is the first college class I have ever taken and it was easier than all of my high school classes at the time. As long as you show up for lecture, everything is a piece of cake. I rarely read the textbook because I understood everything she taught from the lecture. Quizzes and tests are online and open note. Loved it!

Great introduction to psychology. She's very helpful, understanding and knows her material. I fully recommend her class, she's a wonderful professor. She makes psychology interesting and I always learn something knew.

I LOVE THIS TEACHER!!! She is so funny and really knows her stuff. There is a weekly quiz and 3 case studies which literally will only take you an hour to write. Also there is 2 mid terms and a final, all done online (This means open book!) Class is super easy, but also really entertaining and I learned a lot. Attendance is mandatory.

Let me tell you, I hate Psychology! But, I loved this class and I learned so much about the different disorders. You have to attend class in order to do well. It's a lot of tedious work but once you get the hang of it you will be fine. It's based on working in small groups. Can be annoying but it's interesting and easy A if you do the work.

Cindy is such a rad professor! She doesn't take attendance but there are particaption points everyday and those points will help your grade! Her lectures are super interesting! Her online quizzes basically make or break your grade BUT THEY ARE SOOOO EASY!!!! ALL online and you can use your notes or your textbook. EASY A for me! Highly Recommended!

I learned so much in this class. There is a lot to learn. At first, I was completely overwhelmed, but then you get the hang of it, and it is easy. Be prepared to do a lot of work. However, if you just follow her procedures, you will get an A! The 2 exams are take home written papers and you can collaborate with classmates! Loved her personality!

I loved Dr. Selby! Her class was a refreshing change from the usual PowerPoint lectures and taking notes. There is a lot of weekly work, but it is not difficult, especially once you get into the routine. The midterm & final are diagnosis writeups of "clients," which is done at home. No in class tests. She is very helpful, clear, & charismatic.

She is really up front and blunt which I like. She always got to the point and made sure everything was always clear and understood. The grading and class work was set up in a way that you knew exactly what do to to get a good grade.

I took this class for GE. She is very funny, and her lectures are never dull. The homework is explained great and the lectures are never boring. This class wasn't difficult and she always gets back to you ASAP if you have questions

She is the most interesting and hilarious lecturer I've ever had. She is very helpful & clear with her lectureshomework. Online quizzestests are easy if you study. There is plenty of extra credit available if you need it. The iClicker questions are how she takes attendance & are easy points to get. I would super recommend Selby to anyone! :)

Dr. Selby really seems to enjoy teaching and it shows! She is always eager to teach. You have to take a lot of notes but her quizzes and tests are all online with open notes. I would definitely recommend taking this class!

Do not skip class because she gives out clicker test during class. Also study for the exam. Do all the extra credit which is so easy. She is a great professor explains everything well. Get ready to take notes.

Prepare to do A LOT of Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V. Ton of busy work that is pretty useless, videos are also pointless since nobody ever watches them, just copy the information. Basically each week you have to make a video (takes 30 mins), fill out 4-6 case notes (word docs that you have to fill in, takes 30 mins), and a prep guide (1-2 hrs), EACH week.

This class was a hybrid class. Met up once a week and the rest is covered online. There are lecture videos online and quizzes online that were fairly easy. Take good notes during lectures online and in-class then you'll pass.

Although this class is very homework heavy it is all doable. No way to not pass with an A or B. Homework is time consuming every week but you do the same homework every week. Once you get into a rhythm you'll do fine.

Cindy was one of the best professor's I have ever had at this school! She's always making jokes which made it fun to be in class. There are a lot of notes to be taken in class, however they are VERY helpful!! She always helped make things easier to understand if there were difficult concepts to grasp. Plenty options for extra credit as well!

Easiest class I've taken, while still being interesting. Minimal homework assignments every week which you can complete without paying attention. When you do pay attention it can be pretty informative and engaging. Tests are easy, just remember to do the online assignments each week.

BEST CLASS EVER! I took PSYC101 online with Cindy and it was so easy. We had a decent amount of online lectures per week, but the tests were really easy and so was the homework. The textbook is extremely expensive (around 200$) and I haven't really ever used it, so I wouldn't purchase it. Love the teacher and the class is interesting.

Her class consisted of online quizzes (10 questions each) per chapter, a few online tests (the final was online), and clicker questions which also took attendance. We also had two case studies. All of the work was simple and I never studied and got an A. Super easy class.

A lot of the class is graded by TA's not the teacher. There is a lot of busy work that doesn't actually test your knowledge of the course, just whether or not you follow formatting guidelines. The class is taught using a diagnostic strategy that is no longer used in the real world, so the class just kind of feels pointless. Teacher is very nice tho

I took her for Abnormal Psych, and yes there is a lot of homework, but her class is so knowledgeable especially if you plan on working in the mental health field. She does not teach based off the current DSM, BUT not much has changed in the DSM V and this class is a must have if you want to learn about mental health disorders and how to treat them.

One of the best professors ive ever had at chico. If you are actually looking to learn take her! She has the most amazing information and her lectures are fascinating. She has awesome stories from her life that she applies every day in lecture and it makes the class so engaging and informative. Super easy class and really fascinating!

I took this class online which was a very easy class to keep up with as long as you watch the weekly videos and keep up with announcements. This professor is very organized and easy to reach. If you are looking for a Psych 101 class online take Dr. Selbys. Its straightforward and totally do-able!

I was surprised to see these recent reviews for Dr. Selby. Her class has been a joy to take. There is a decent workload, but the way she teaches this class is extremely clear and entertaining. She provides excellent feedback. As well if you choose to meet with her you can see how helpful she is and her love for psychology is clear. Take this class!

The lectures are decent, but the only problem I have with them is she sometimes would throw in Crash Course videos from YouTube and count them towards our grade. It seems kinda childish and unprofessional to still be using these videos as actual homework considering middle schoolers mainly find use of them. tests are 75 ?s with a 60 min timer. GL
