She's clear, the labs are practical, and her tests resemble homework problems.
She doesn't like to help one on one unless you go to her office after class. She treats her students like they are stupid and talks like shes a kindergarden teacher. Im glad the class is only an hour, but it being 4 days a week sucks.
one word "ANAL"
She would always wonder, and you left the class very unclear of what to do for homework. She is very strict about attendance! She would always talk down to us, saying that we where stuck in high school.
great teacher will take again. very helpfull with hw and problems. explains things very nicely. tests are easy, strict on attendance but i skipped half the time still got an A.
SOOOOOOO BORING. The worst teacher I've ever had. Teachs totally different from the book, and is difficult to listen to.

She definatly is not in touch with the reality that math is for as the person below me put, "squares." she expects you to do loads of homework over stuff that we will never use in our lives and then after all that hard work, it is only worth 5 points.
Overall good teach. Can be confusing at times if u dont pay attention. Do the hmwk and practice. She does teach well and i learned a lot. Would take her again.
Boring! Tests are tough. Would not be my first choice.
Very patient. Goes over everything step-by-step. Answers any questions about homework the next day. If you go to class you will understand how to do the homework. If you do the homework you will do well on the tests. Good person to learn calculus from.
Lovely lady. Extremly kind hearted. An excellent teacher for a person who has a tough time understanding math concepts. She very clearly articulates her schedule, syllabus and follows them closely. Very organized and reasonable.
Very boring, but doesnt collect homework so you only have to come for the homework quizzes and labs and tests. recomend for students who know the math and wouldnt have to come to be bored to sleep in class
Her teaching style is a little dry, but she is always there to help. Her tests come straight of the book, no surpises. Her class is an easy A if you do the homework, and ask questions when you need help. I would highly recommend her for anyone of all skill levels!
Great Lady. Like all math classes just do the homework and ask questions when needed. Her test problems come right out of the book, so if the homework is done right there's no reason not to pass. I am taking her for Math 140 in the Spring.
she just talks about abvious details, homwork system is the most stupid system I have ever seen. Do NOT take Calc. with her if you want to learn, but take if you want an easy A.
Very nice lady. She's always on time for class. Knows the subject and passes on the information very well. She will help the class if she makes a test too long by giving makeup tests. However, homework almost every day that you must do to pass the weekly quizes. Just pay attention and do your homework and you will do fine in her class
I would recommend a different teacher if you're thinking of taking Stats. Yes, she is a sweetheart but unavailable other than class times and short office hours. Lectures too fast and tends to make many mistakes. A little on the lazy side, and not very passionate about teaching.
All you have to do is show up, pay attention and do the homework and you'll have a great grade. Her class is a little boring, but at least everything gets drilled into your head and you'll do well on her tests- if you can manage to stay awake!
I dropped the class... she didn't explain stuff too well... if you can learn from the book this class is for you. you don't really need to show up because everything you need to know is in the book. but if you're a visual learner like me, don't take it
She's an AWESOME math teacher! I took her for summer semester and I learned a lot in her class. It was easy and very interesting and we did a lot of work but it didn't seem like it. She was helpful and always talked slow for us to write notes. I liked her and her class, but I guess that's just my opinion b/c other people didn't like her...
Easy class. Recommend it she's helpful and nice. Very understanding of things. Did labs with a small group of people those are lame but it was still a good class. Everything is right from the book.
Nice teacher and easy class, but you need to be on top of things every week not to get behind.
I will use what she has taught me all of my life. While in her class I didn't understand what was needed & I wasn't willing to give my all to get a higher grade. I regert learning later sometimes you only get one chance. I could have done better & will suffer for my lack of foresight all of my years.
She was the best math teacher i have ever had. I suck at math and she made it easy to understand. i got an A in the class!
She is a Great teacher! Very Helpful. I'm active duty military working over 45 hours a week and it's been years since I've takin a math class. She collects homework on Mondays so it gives you the weekend to catch up! Best Math professor so far.
She is an ok teacher, ANAL and obsesses on unimportant details. She's will help you in class to a point, but often refers you to her office hours. It's a pretty simple class and you will do well if you do the homework. Tests are right out of the book. She's a bit moody. I will recommend her, as she is not a terrible, or mean teacher, just dry.
I recommend her because she offers a lot of help and isn't too extreme, she does obsess have her own minor details (like stapling your hw or sharpening your pencil before class) but if you go to class you will make not of all those. Her tests are easy and she nice, patient, organized, and communicates well.
ex-kindergarten teacher, really patient and helpful
great taeacher very kind. homework every day, but not due till every monday, so u have time to work on it. grades a lil strict so make sure u check your work thoroughly and really work out your problems, or she will mark you off.
She is great! Stats is not the greatest subject in the world, but she made it completely tolerable. Take her if you need this class, she is extremely helpful and understandable.
Prof. Torgison has a Masters Degree in statistics. And she is able to impart an appreciation of the subject to her students. It is clear from the beginning of the semester just what a student needs to do to achieve a particular grade. For students who are willing to work, Torgison bends over backwards to help them succeed. Her class challenged me!
Professor Torgison is a great teacher. I took her class three times for math 60,110, and 115, and got A in all of them.she is really clear and kind.she has a lot of office hours and is willing to help. I always appericiate the way she teaches math.I have never had hard time in her class.
Love the no HW policy, great teacher
Wonderful teacher! I was afraid of MATH but she made me love the math! She is very patient, organized and helpful. Always available for you during the office hours. Always answered to all my questions and emails. She explains material very well. Her grades are very fair. The best teacher at Palomar!
ok so she is nice and seems to truly want to help you pass the class, but most of her teaching was off the book(examples, explanations etc). You will pass the class if you do your homework group projects and READ the book!
Great teacher! I really enjoyed the class. Very helpful. Take her class if you ca. She is the best at Palomar. Her grades are awesome if you do your homework. Easy class!
She is a very nice lady but all of her examples were straight out of the book and if you didn't understand the book you were screwed unless you asked for help. I had a lot of trouble with this class.
She was so clear when it came to whatever problems she was asked to help us with. Her practice tests are somewhat accurate to the upcoming real ones. Strongly recommend her.
She is very nice, however she teaches so slowly and all of her examples are out of the book! Also, it is very hard to learn when she is doing examples on the board and the students have to correct her. Her tests are pretty easy as long as you understand the material. Doesnt require alot of homework, and it is usually always due on Mondays.
Torgison isn't really the best or worst teacher you'll encounter. Her class is fairly easy, but one problem I have with her is she's just so damned quiet that if anyone else in class makes a sound you can't hear here. Also, she makes a TON of mistakes during class, so you need to be on the ball about correcting her. I just use the book.....
I think this professor was kinda easy disregard to other comments prior to mine. Her hw were way little compare to other math professor i took. She teach all the functio necessary to use the calculator for her hw and test. The first test and final she created a study guide for both. u need to get into a study group to pass this class.
being its math you need to go to class otherwise youll miss something. her tests are just like the homework she assigns and quizzes are easy too, if you go to class and pay attention youll do fine
Nice, patient, and willing to help. Doing the homework will get you through the tests.
She's an alright teacher. not the worst you'll take, but definitely not the best. If you're good at math and do the homework, you'll be set for all of the tests. MATH120 for me was more of a self-taught class, which doesn't say much for the professor. She also speaks in class as if she were talking to 7 year olds, which becomes highly annoying.
great math teacher. tests are just like homework. Easy A if you actually do the homework.
Easy A if you do the homework. Quizzes are taken directly from homework. There are pre-tests before every test, which are the exact same problems except a few number changes (sometimes they are the exact same!)Also, some tests she allows notecards so that can be of great help.
easy A as long as you do your homework. quizzes are super easy because she lets you use your homework and the questions are directly from the homework. tests are easy too...very straight forward. very easy class, i highly recommend her
AWESOME !!!!
Great, mellow teacher. Class structure is very simple. Take notes, review homework, and take test.
She's extremely nice, and the homework quizzes were easy. She is very clear. And DO THE STUDY GUIDES!!!! It was the most helpful thing by far!
No complaints, She is a great teacher! I always recieved helped when needed. She teaches everything, gives a study guide(which is the exact same as the test, just different #'s in the test problems), and even lets you use a 3x5 notecard for tests(on which I copied the study guide problems onto in fine print) If you put in time, you'll be rewarded.
GREAT prof, she teaches as if you know nothin and is very helpful. I didnt turn in any homework but passed all the test with 96 and higher and got a B in the class.
She is very nice and easy going. She messes up problems on the board frequently, which is a little distracting and frustrating. But overall, she knows what she's teaching and she's always willing to help you either in the beginning of class or at office hours. I would love to take her class again...
better one on one teacher
Probably the worst math teacher I had. She just goes through problems without really going step by step. If your not a math wiz DONT take her. And she messes up a lot which gets annoying! And she gets really annoyed when there are electronics out.
She was an alright teacher, she used to teach elementary school and has not changed her technique. She seems to genuinely want to help students but she spend so much time answering homework questions that there would be little time for her to cover the new material. She dose make a lot of mistakes as well.
i love her to death she is suppppper fun <3
she doesnt go over new material she just answers homework questions. we never use our textbook so dont even waste your money but you do have to buy mymathlab cause thats where you do all your homework my advice is to just go to tutoring in the library if youre confused and find Kieth hes really good at explaining things.
Good teacher, but very quiet. She is very willing to help but you have to make the first step. But she does make mistakes a lot so pay attention, the tests are right out of the chapter tests in the book. Hates phones in class, and gets very annoyed by them.
Crystal clear instructions. Very helpful; answers all questions. Willing to help on the side if necessary. Provides practice exams. Recommended if you have a hard time with math...relates math concepts to everyday situations. She wants successful students and it shows. If getting rid of the "p" in asymptote would help, she would see to it.
I have never needed a tutor until I took this class. Her methods are very confusing. Doesn't like to give partial credit on exams so if you make one mistake early on, you will likely lose letter grades worth of points for something relatively simple because each question has 5-6 sub-questions using the same info. 3 words: FML
Overall a pretty good math professor & a sweet lady. Study guides are very similar to exams & exams are fair. Doesn't collect HW but does have weekly quizzes, which are straight out of HW & you can use your HW on quizzes. Would recommend to a friend.
She is a great teacher. Very helpful in class and outside of class. She does whatever she can to help her students. She made study guides before every test and the final which are very helpful. She doesn't rush the class because she wants to make sure everyone understands the material.
She's useless. She's annoying. She needs to be teaching at an elementary school not a college.
Never been so frustrated with a teacher at the college level on my life .i feel like I am in kindergarten .no partial credit on tests, super anal about everything !
Should be teaching at an elementary school. Have a question on the homework? Don;t ask her for help... She'll just tell you to look in the book! No partial credit on tests. Many group assignments. No bueno.
I took professor Torgison for four different math classes math 60-110-115-120. So that should tell you I loved her and her teaching style. She is very approachable, very clear, her voice is pleasant to listen to, and does not make you feel humiliated for your questions or anything else. You just have to do the work you are supposed to do
Awesome professor! I never enjoyed math until I took her. Always willing to help and makes you feel comfortable to ask questions in class. Plenty of group activities which made time in the class go by faster. Her lectures were very easy to understand. Her homework definitely prepared me for the tests. Would take her again if I have the chance!
Awesome! no need to feel rushed in math again she will take the time to go over the problems as many times as the class or you personally need :) if your feeling like you got it cool flip open ur textbook (after asking to be polite) and most times she will let you start powering on ahead on your homework while still in class very laid back IMO
Very good at explaining concepts. Assigns 5 group projects which are just math problems you work on with two other people. Offers office hours and likes to help students. Drop lowest test score at end of semester and helps you calculate your grade. Very nice but class is awkwardly quiet when she asks questions and no one answers. Barely used book.
Exams are close to study guides. Makes herself available for students to further explain if you're having trouble. As with any math class show up, do your homework and ask questions.
LOTS of math lab homework. Attend the tutor's tutoring. He gives tutoring before every test. Do the math lab homework and attend Keith's tutoring and you will A-OK!
Prof. Torgison is very helpful! I really enjoyed her class and she makes everything easy to understand. Her study guides and lectures are straightforward. She is a pleasant woman and very approachable. She has office hours and is knowledgeable on many subjects besides math. She is well respected. Take her!!
Prof Torgison is a really great teacher! I actually found her MATH 110 class easier than a MATH 60 class I took last semester, because her teaching style was so much clearer and better than the professor I took for 60. She was really patient and took time to answer questions in class, explained things really well. Take her!
Take Torgison. Every time at the beginning of class, she would ask if we had questions about the homework. Lectures were a bit long, but it was a 2 hour class, so it was kind of unavoidable. Overall, she explained the lessons in great detail and made sure that we understood the concepts before moving on to the next subject.
Homework is done for a couple hours every single day and is all done online on MyMathLab, which sucks... but you won't ever need a textbook! She posts practice tests with answers and step-by-step solutions before the actual test days which are exactly the same as the test. If you read those you pass.
I really enjoyed her class. She makes everything easy to understand, and won't move on until you get it. She also provides practice tests - if you do these you will for sure pass. She is very laid back and friendly, and one of the best math professors I have had. If it's your first time taking pre-calc or you're reviewing, I'd recommend her class!
Professor Torgison is my absolute favorite math professor. She is so amazingly kind and such a good lecturer. She always takes questions during lectures, will go over homework questions you have and is just always super helpful. She makes sure you know what's going on. Also, her practice exams are exactly like the test, just different number. Rad!
This class made me choose my major. Professor Torgison is so amazing and her lectures are my favorite math lectures of all time. She has so many stories about working in the field of statistics and it made me want to pursue it too. She's so sweet, smart and caring. Her tests are just like the practice exams and that makes them very easy.
I love the way Prof Torgison teaches. She makes sure everyone understands the material as she reviews everyday on the material she taught the day before to see if anyone has questions. 5 non cumulative tests with study guides that are similar to the tests & 1 cumulative Final.
She's a really nice lady take her!!
She marks you down on the stupidest things on the tests. Constantly is corrected by the class, she's probably not the worst teacher at Palomar but she definitely is not the best.
Nice lady but if you are not a math person but need to take this class it will be difficult. 100 points are based on online homework from my math lab so don't lack on doing it. Take 4 tests and 1 final, but the lowest test grade is dropped. Also the final is cumulative which was not fun. Take at your own risk she is probs on the better end compared
Pros- She gives a practice test that is very similar to the real thing before every exam which makes it easier to know what she will test you on. She drops the lowest exam score from your grade at the end of the semester. Cons- She makes frequent mistakes in her lecture examples. Gives A LOT of online homework that takes a long time to complete.
She makes so many mistakes on a daily basis and doesnt take the time to learn who her students are, doesnt know anyones names, and shes just super unorganized
Pretty easy class, have to pay attention and study but professor is accessible and responds to emails. Hw quizzes, and hw needs to be correct. Questions from textbook, no online hw. Tests are fair. Study and you'll get an A like me.
I took stats in high school and got a C- because my teacher was awful. Professor Torgison is the most amazing math professor I have ever had. She genuinely cares about students, adjusts workload to help us out, and makes class simple but effective. The homework, scan assignments, and projects are balanced. Take her class!!!
