Dr. VanPutte is a very cool lady. She cares about her students and tries to help them as much as possible. She's not too bad to look at either!!
She is full of herself. I have never seen a person that is so close minded that they cannot even begin to look at someone elses opinion. She writes faster than she speaks and believes she knows ALL. I highly recommend NOT taking her if it can be helped.
If you want to pass, I suggest that you not take her class. She puts students asleep with her boring monotone voice.
She is very open minded and cares a lot about her students!!!
tests are really hard
not very helpful. not clear with lectures. Boring! I have had great teachers and she is down on the bottom of my list. Avoid her class.
Van Putte is the hardst teacher I have ver had in my life and in all my classes at SWIC. Studied for 8 hours on 1 test and got the highest grade in the class with an 82 percent. Hardest tests possible
It's community college for crying out loud.
Do not take this class if you want to learn biology. She does not teach- just read off of a powerpoint slide. Tests do not reflect notes or book- very hard!!
she is a horrible teacher..i am a stright A student and had to drop her class because i was failing..she doesnt teach she just reads the book to you or reads her powerpoint, tests are mostly essay..and have nothing to do with lectures. awful class, if you want to pass, take someone else!
she is a horrible teacher..i am a stright A student and had to drop her class because i was failing..she doesnt teach she just reads the book to you or reads her powerpoint, tests are mostly essay..and have nothing to do with lectures. awful class, if you want to pass, take someone else!
shes horrible. i am also a stright A student and dropped her class. her tests are so hard, they are all essay and she gives you no idea as to what will be on the test. half the time its not even anything she discussed in class. if you want to get something out of this class and learn, dont take her. i hated her, she is AWFUL! she needs to be fired!
SHE IS TERRIBLE... SHE NEEDS TO BE TEACHING AT A UNIVERSITY, NOT AT A JUNIOR COLLEGE. I HAVE A 3.7 GPA AND I BARLEY GOT A C IN HER CLASS. THE WAYS SHE TEACHES IS RIDICULOUS AND HER TEST ARE SUICIDE. I DONT RECOMMEND HER TO ANYBODY....DO NOT TAKE HER EVER!!!!!!1
She is very nice and an entertaining teacher. Her lectures are easy to understand, but do not prepare you for the tests. I am a top student, but her tests are extremely hard. Studying for hours does not prepare you for them, either! Lots of short answer and essay!
I thought she was a great teacher! While this was a more difficult class for me, i felt that she really wanted us to learn and she helped me anytime i needed it, but you MUST study a lot to pass any lab or lecture test.
Dr. VanPutte is a good teacher. She may be rough, but she tries to make sure u know it. So< if u want to learn something, take her class. If you don't want to learn anything, don't take her class!!!
If you are taking her class to progress to nursing school, her tests are great preparation & a cakewalk compared to what you will face in a nursing program. Accept that you will be studying for a long amount of time for her tests...and for the next two years. Replace "whining" with "studying" and you'll do great! She is a wonderuful instructor
Dr. VanPutte is an awesome teacher. If your looking for a class to slack off, don't take her but if you actually want to learn something and try she will help you. She is one of two teachers at SWIC that actually took time out of her life (without getting paid) to have an extra study session.
tons of studying for class, make sure to have lots of time
Should not be allowed to teach. totally screws over students by placing material on exams that she never covers in class. avoid at all costs!!
I had straight A's in all my other classes had to drop hers because I was failing it Retake in summer by other teacher and I have an A..I think that says something about her teaching!
She has little to no respect for her students and has virtualy no comprehension on how to connect with other people. Her supeiority complex is overwhelming. She thinks she is teaching at a leel far above what she was hired to do.
You have to study for this class. It is not the easy A&P class, but I learned a lot. If you're not willing to work, take another teacher's course. Just because it's a community college is no reason to accept a substandard education.
I really have to disagree with pretty much every comment about this professor. While she is difficult, if you study it is definitely possible to get an A. She does include an essay portion on the exams that have questions that aren't directly related to material she covered. However, if you study you should be able to think through them.
Don't take her u will fail. she prides herself in being very tough as if she doesn't want u to succeed. She has a high drop level. she's head of the dept. so all of the lab tests are the same and extrem. hard.
Her lectures were phenomenal. However, what?s the point of lecturing if it?s not on the exams. Pointless. I spent MORE time gathering lecture and lab notes than ACTUALLY studying. I had a B in the class. Most of it was self taught. I probable would have received an A if she catered to her students, not doctors.BTW.She's boy crazy.giggly with boys.
I disagree with most of the comments here. I easily got an A with studying. Yes, she gives you questions that she didn't directly cover - but that's the whole point. She wants you to THINK, not just memorize. I'm not sure what caliber of students are giving the ratings here, but they obviously are looking for a free ride and not an education.
Worst teacher I ever had. Lies to her students. Offered our class extra credit, and the credit actually counted against your grade unless you got 100% on it. She gave me a B when I deserved an A.Went to the school board about it, and she sabotaged me.Awful, discriminating, terrible teacher.More interested in writing her books than helping students.
her test...impossible! when i asked for help i didnt get a good answer that actually helped me
Cinnamon is a very fun teacher. She can get off on tangents, but that just adds to the class. Her class is by no means a walk-thru. You must study everything for every test, but you will be rewarded in the end.
Her lectures were great. Her lab exams were good even though she purposely trick her students by rephrasing the questions. Her exams are ridiculously hard. She caters more for pre-med students than freshmen and sophomore students. I studied hard and received a B. I?m normally a straight A student. BTW. I already have bachelor with a 3.68 GPA.
She is probably one of the few teachers that actually gave me a wake up call on what i had to do for my bio-med field profession. By no means an easy teacher, she will actually make your correlate the material in the class to help broaden your understanding.
worst teacher ive had yet, cant misspell anything, i hated her class
She is one of those teachers you will remember 20 years from now. Never makes you feel stupid. Doesn't want a memorized answer; she wants you to think about the concept and apply to a real world scenario. The class isn't easy, but neither is the human body. I took her twice! ;)
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
She's difficult, no doubt. She expects you to know the material--wow, that's so horrible. How dare a teacher actually expect the students to KNOW what she's grading over. She's a great teacher. Willing to do whatever it takes to help you understand the material. Go to her for help and study yourself and you'll do well.
okay she is a horrible teacher. She goes off on tangents that never relate to the material. She puts material on the test that is not covered. I know this class was not going to be easy, but what i expected from the head of the department was a teacher who was very clear in teaching and was willing to help her students to show that she can teach.
I don't understand all of the negative comments on here about her. I understand her tests are difficult, but thats how we learn. If you just memorized the definitions of words, you would forget it in a week. She makes it so you'll always know your stuff. I think she explains things well and explains them in different ways to make sure I understand.
Had to drop this class to save my GPA. Found Vanputte very unhelpfull, have ask several questions and she attended to her favorite students instead. She is always off course with material durring lecture. Often admits she has no idea what she is talking about? her test are ridiculous!! Thank-you SWIC for wasting my time;0
If you are preparing for SWIC's nursing program, you will want to really think about taking VanPutte. She will really help to prepare you for the extreme challenges that you face ahead (take it from me). If you think this is hard, you are in for a real awakening. Those who had VanPutte in the nursing program are a step ahead of everyone else.
First of all, you can tell the quality of students who have taken Cinnamon's courses and reviewed her negatively because they aren't even literate and cannot spell...LOOK, Cinnamon is an AMAZING teacher, IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR DEGREE AND ABOUT PUTTING OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES IN YOUR HANDS!! She's thorough and will explain anything you need!
Look, Cinnamon is one Hell of a professor. She has a PhD so she knows her stuff and she is easily one of the nicest people you'll meet. She expects you to understand the material, so if you have solid study skills, you should be fine. Don't expect a good grade if you study the day before a test. She is knowledge and eager to help.
Awesome instructor.Personally-great person. She is TOO hard considering that this is a "100" level class and she is teaching at a Junior College. It seems that she teaches on a level as though she is teaching Pre-Med students..Well,WRONG!! Everyone taking A&P aren't Pre-Med..some are going to be PE Teachers & must have A&PI only..i studied HARD=D!!!
I had her for 157 and for 158. She is a hard teacher, but she is very informative and will explain something until you for sure understand. She is very nice to talk to and is VERY understanding about any problems that come up. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly suggest going every time because you will miss lecture notes not on the slides.
Cinnamon is a GREAT person, and she really knows her stuff. But she is HARD...her tests are extremely difficult and sometimes studying seems pointless. She expects you to know a lot and read the textbook (mostly because she wrote it). I loved her as a person, but as a teacher I have mixed feelings.
Cinnamon Vanputte is a wonderful teacher!! I took her for Anatomy 157, and I received an A in her class! It is not a blow off class, you have to study, but if you study and pay attention in class you can get an A if you are dedicated. She is super nice and will help you out with any questions you ask!I would take her again in a heartbeat!
Dr. VanPutte was a great teacher! She printed out everything you needed to know. Her tests aren't easy whatsoever, but studying gradually and using Connect and the CD, like she suggests, really helps. It is kind of hard, I am a straight A student and got a B, but I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a good education. Very helpful!!!
Doc is the best Bio teacher I have had so far. She is hard and makes you think on test, but if you do the Critical Thinking ?'s you should be fine. Read the text, show up to class and study alot you should pass. Labs are not hard but not easy. She relates things to stupid stuff that makes you understand it. Take her if you are going into Nursing.
Shes very smart and knows her information, after all she did help rewrite the book she uses for class. But tests are hard and tons of information to memorize. Do not take her class especially during summer classes. She expects everyone to know everythin alreay and to have photograghic memory.
Great teacher. Goes out of her way to make sure you understand the material. Yes her tests are hard, but if you're going into nursing you better get use to it. Was able to easily pass the class with an A, but I studied.
Dr. Vanputte is an amazing professor! She cares about her students succeeding! The class in general is challenging but she teaches you to think in a different way! Its something you can take with you to professional health career! She goes out of her way to make sure you understand the material. I would recommend her to everyone!
Hardest teacher I have ever had. I am an A student with occasional B's. I am currently failing her class and I hope to at least bring it up to a C. She will tell you after tests that certain questions werent talked about but she wanted to see what you could come up with.
She is not helpful at all. I went to her several times for clarity on lecture and she just told me to read my book. She appeared to be annoyed with my questions. Tests are ridiculous! After exams she would actually say that some of the critical thinking questions were never really talked about in class but wanted to see what we could come up with
Awful professor. The work load was way to much and she expected way to much from her students without explaining everything to them. She said after a test that, "out of all of her sections one person got 100% right on the multiple choice so it wasn't her fault we failed." Um what? She is not a good teacher. Take Dr. Dyer or Mr. Marlin.
Best teacher ever. Although some people say she's tough, she is lenient when she grades test. She incorporates stories into what we are learning in class. Sometimes she can get off track, but she goes back and explains again. Connect homework will keep your grade up; easy to do and an easy 5 points! GREAT TEACHER!
BEST TEACHER! I love Dr. Vanputte as a teacher. She explains everything very well. Even though the studying can be a lot, if you put the work in you'll definitely be fine in her class. She offers extra credit & homework is relatively easy points. I think she'll be helpful for those going into the medical field to get you thinking critically.
Very difficult class more difficult than my 157 class. I did not enjoy this class at all did not understand anything. I wish I would have not taken her class.
Gives an excess amount of homework.
EVERYONE Knows you Don't take Vanputte! She wrote the book we use and the packet we use. When she walked in my 157 class everyone got real quiet and gasp because she is a legend as far as being a hard teacher at swic.
Instead of memorizing things, she basis her tests and homework off applying the information. If you are taking BIOL 158 just to check a box you will find her hard, if you want to learn and use it in a medical field setting like nursing you will learn from her that will help you in future classes. She was alway willing to answer any questions I had.
Very good teacher! Yes you have to know the material, but you are in college for crying out loud! It's not going to be "easier" because it's community college. She actually wants you to understand the material, not just memorize notes. One of my favorite teachers I've ever had! Was always helpful and lectures were interesting.
After reading these comments I'm really proud of my A lol. Is she hard? Oh yea. But her teaching is beyond amazing. Her tests and assignments requires you to comprehend the course material. By far one of the best teachers I've ever had. Taken her twice. Premed oriented :)Take this class if you actually study please or you'll fail. Definitely.
There are far better Biology 101 professors that have more effective methodologies than Cinnamon. She is a subject matter but is a complete social retard with extreme intellectual arrogance. This most definitely explains why she has a PHD and settled as an adjunct professor at a community college. "College isn't for everyone" -Cinnamon VanPutte
This class is definitely challenging. I feel like I beat the odds by getting my B. She is hard but a very good teacher. I liked having her as my teacher. The lab and lecture exams were okay if you studied a lot. I suggest her if you plan on going to class and not skipping.
This class was the toughest class I have ever taken in my life. I heard that other professor's are not as tough, but she is extremely difficult. I loved the class though, she is good to take because she really prepares you if you want to go into the medical field. I would strongly recommend taking her class, but only if you are a hard worker.
Bio 157 is not a hard subject, however Dr. Vanputte has higher expectations than any other biology teacher at SWIC. My advice would be if you are going into anything medical that you should take her, because all the extra work she makes you do pays off. If not, take someone easier. I'm usually an A student and I struggled to keep my C.
Her class was really hard. I ended up with an 79.3 and needed to get a 79.5 to round my grade to a B. I emailed her but she wouldn't raise it .2 to give me an B. Must dedicate a good chunk of time to studying for lab tests. Lecture tests are 50% short answer.
I love her class so much that I am disappointed to not get to take her for 158. If you want to breeze through and not learn much, by all means, take the easier instructors. You will learn with Dr. VanPutte. Her lectures are informative and structured well for note taking. She is friendly and helpful. I learned more in her class than any other!
I loved this class. She has a way of making anatomy really seem interesting. I really had to study and devote an insane amount of time to this class but working for my good grade was very rewarding. I would take this class again and highly recommend her class to others.
She's a nice lady, but not the best teacher. It was hard to study for the lecture tests because we never knew what was going to be on there. The schedule was messed up and we end up having three huge tests on the last three days of class. Our final is literally over what we learned exactly a week before. She wrote the book and it was a hard read
VanPutte is an awesome teacher!! She is very sweet, funny, helpful, and is willing to work with you. She is very clear and accepts you to do the work and participate. Will definitely take her again!
She is a tough teacher. Her lecture test are pretty hard. Her tests are half essay & she grades them very hard. One test I got all the multiple choice but I got half credit for all essays. That does not seem fair. Elaborate on the single question as much as you can because she will fine something to take off points for. The lab are straight forward
Wonderful teacher! The class is tough and you have to work - she expects you to study and understand the material. If you want feedback do your Critical Thinking questions and hand them in before the test. I learned a lot from her and I wish I could take her class for 158 but can't because of scheduling conflict.
Awesome teacher! She is clear and willing to help you out with any questions. Beware, you have work hard for a good grade. If your looking for an easy A this is not the class for you. Tests are hard but hw is easy. Even though it was tough, I enjoyed having her teach.
Great lady! She likes to make charts that are ESSENTIAL on your lecture exams. If she draws a chart, be ready to need to throw it down onto an exam. She offers help, so take her up on it! Ask questions no matter how small they are. There's no such thing as too much detail in Critical Thinking Questions. Lastly.. Study. Don't procrastinate the hw's.
Dr. Vanputte is an amazing teacher. If you are not willing to put in the time to study, do not take her. She explains concepts very well. Make sure to do the homework it will help with your grade, but do not try to wait to do it. Plan to spend 1 to 3 hours a day studying. I worked hard for my C, but I can still explain what I learned from her.
Vanputte is a great teacher, and will help you with anything you need. Her test though are very tough and you MUST study in order to make the grade. She makes you work for the grade in her class but you will have a great clinical understanding of the subject by the end! make sure you turn in your critical thinking early to receive feedback!
As a professor, she knows her stuff. Unfortunately she expects you to learn as she did in college. She expects way too much from her students and almost wrecked my gpa. I wish someone else had warned me, take anyone else you possibly can. Im a straight A student and she is impossible.
Boring, Speaks way over class level. Needs to go teach a doctorate class somewhere. God help you if you don't like juzitzsu.
II know some are negative about this instructor. I don't know why. Her tests are very hard. Hardest I have ever taken. But I learned to love Biology and Science from her ink another instructor could have inspired. Her lectures are clear, methodical and very informative. I completely enjoyed the class!!
She's a nice person, but goes into so much detail that it's very hard to keep up if you aren't a science major. She goes through material very quickly and the layout of the class itself makes it hard to keep up. There are lecture days on short days and lab days on long days, but the material covered on the lecture days is different than the lab day
Expects her students to know the material. Not understanding that's the reason we are taking the class is to LEARN the material. An abundance of information is given that leaves a student wondering exactly what the lesson/lecture was about. Do go above & beyond when answering test questions she wants bricks & mortar not just the answer asked for.
Online homework and ebook is very confusing to use. Be prepared to spend hours doing the online work and reading. Really good about responding to emails.
Dr. Vanputte's Microbiology class is very difficult. She's a bit hard to understand and follow when she lectures. She is a very nice and extremely smart professor, but she sometimes taught way above our heads. You are graded on exams, quizzes, and an unknown -- 600 points so not a lot of wiggle room. No homework but much studying required to pass.
Dr. VanPutte's microbiology class is extremely difficult. Way more so than it should be. She is a very nice professor, but the class is a mess. Half the time the labs didn't work out like they should but we were still tested on the outcome of the labs. If you want a good grade on her test, you better start studying early and hard.
Nice & very intelligent, condescending at times. Teaching was unorganized & all over the place. Hard to follow. Tests difficult. Almost need to be able to read her mind. Half her tests are essay & she wants her exact wording. Spend lots of time studying. Never expected micro to be so hard. Lab quizzes are OK. Labs didn't always work. Study study!!!
Lots of lecture, excepts material to be studied everyday.
Vanputte is good, but I honestly would not take her again. She, no joke, gave 300 question homework assignments, critical thinking questions, and reading, all while you were studying for lecture tests AND lab tests separately. Her lectures were hard. She spoke to the class as though you already knew the information.
I did enjoy her summer microbiology class. Ms. VanPutte is very smart and nice. However if you do not put in the work you will not pass. I do think that her tests are very difficult. To pass you have to take notes during lecture and be able to apply to concepts not just memorization.
I had Mrs. VanPutte twice now and she is the epitome of a dedicated and compassionate professor. If you work hard and communicate with her, you will pass. She works hard and expects the same from you. This is a difficult college-level course and it kicked my butt the first time around. She never held my hand but she was a wonderful mentor.
Absolutely amazing professor. She makes her lectures come alive with interesting stories and real world applications for the material. Make sure you take good notes during her lectures and study those before the test. Her class is not easy by any means, but if you put in the work, you will reap the benefits. Hands down my favorite professor at SWIC
She expects you to memorize every listed chapter and gives you a blank sheet of paper for the test. I'm not impressed with her teaching. She's sporadic and can't keep her thoughts straight. I recommend a different professor. Would transfer if it wasn't too late.
Cinnamon Vanputte is an AMAZING teacher. There is the right amount of homework in the class that actually helps you overall. She will readily help you with anything you struggle on. Keep in mind this is an anatomy course, so it is rigorous. You will HAVE to put time in and study. Overall, she is amazing and I would recommend her to everyone.
She is by far the best a&p professor at SWIC. Yes, this class is challenging. You will have to study... you can't just breeze through a class like this and expect a decent grade. If you need help she will go out of her way to make sure you understand the material. Her lectures are also VERY helpful. I plan to receive an A in her 158 class :)
im an A student, was there everyday, half the class dropped. her lab exams she expects you to know everything in the appendices and emphasizes you need to know certain things but she doesnt put them on her tests & same with lecture. she puts things in her lecture exams that we dont even learn bc she gets off topic & talks about her family.
Unorganized and condescending teaching method. Lecture and exams uncorrelated, and super meticulous on grading details. Doesn't offer much help outside of class, and will not save your grade or round up. You have to teach yourself and its a lot to learn. So many details and no direction from her at all, very hard to study and pass. Waste of money.
Dr. VanPutte was an amazing teacher. I took her class for both A&P 157 and 158. I received an A in both classes. As long as you put in the work, and there is a lot of work, you will do well. She is great about giving feedback and helping you understand the concepts. Be prepared for critical thinking and application of mechanisms.
Shes a good teacher but her tests are intense. Studying is a must!
I have never met a more inconsiderate human being. She does not care if you pass or fail & will not give you help either. She expects you to know way too much considering she is the one who wrote the textbook you use in class. She also feels some type of way towards people who are athletes so be aware. 7 others along with me failed or dropped class
Very frustrating and difficult! I am an A+ student and this class made me want to drop out. No regard for students and our personal lives. Did A LOT of independent work because she never taught well or didnt teach us what we needed to know, still didnt receive fair grades. Over half class dropped or failed and she didnt care. Very mediocre
I had her for both 157 and 158. It seemed like for 157, she was very specific and detailed with her notes. Not so much for 158. I found that the tests and notes didnt correlate whatsoever and I did poorly on the lecture exams (something that was not a problem for 157). Im happy with my B+ but could have done better if the notes matched.
The bottom line in this class is, you have to show up, put in the time, and do the work. Dr. VanPutte keeps the material interesting and relevant, with lots of clinical applications. She's very caring and offers a lot of opportunities and tips to help you understand the material, but you HAVE TO PUT IN THE WORK. Loved her class, great professor.
Extremely tough for no reason... I took it again in the summer which in only 8 WEEKS!! I did soooooo much better ! Dont get me wrong the class is tough! But her teaching style did not fit my learning style AT ALL. Very tough grader and test were very hard and overwhelming! Oh and she DOES NOT ROUND UP !
Today was my last day in Dr. Vanputte's class overall I really enjoyed her way of teaching. Since it was an 8 week course it was a bit of a challenge but if you show up to class and study you will do fine. She does give a lot of homework but those points help in bumping your grade up.
The homework given is fairly easy (as she'll always help if you ask) and really helps bump up your grade. Lecture is concise, yet filled with real world examples. She is honest about testing material, so you just need to study and memorize. Her outlines and handouts explain exactly what she expects you to learn. Accept all of her offers to help!
The best teacher I have ever had at SWIC, I genuinely enjoy her class! Not only is she amazing at her job, she always makes sure she explains everything until there are no more questions. She takes time with students and always offers help. She truly cares for each student, and always encourages. Easy to talk to and amazing teaching skills!
Professor Vanputte loves what she does, and it shows during her class. Exams (lab + lecture) are HARD, but if you study a lot you will pass. She has a lot of homework, but her critical thinking questions helped me learn; they make you apply knowledge instead of regurgitate. If you have the choice to take her class, do it! You won't regret it!
