Everyday in a really annoying voice: Please turn off your cell phones. Makes material much harder than it actually is. Take it from Taylor in the fall!!! Much easier!
This class was really boring and the tests were very hard. BUT.... the little forecasts that she has you do make all the difference in the grade. Make sure you do the forecasts every day so you can get a better grade. I got a 73% and I got an A.
Unwilling to help and work with students. Annoying daily forcasts with confusing instructions. Also a lot of stupid time consuming assignments that dont really teach you anything about what you are studying
what should be an easy class was extremely hard - read from powerpoints everyday which is pointless and had forecasts which became a waste of time
bad teacher, class not too bad but the assignments are worst i've ever done, tries to teach writing in a class of 300+ students, dosen't work
Makes an entry-level class into a graduate-level type class.teaches students like they're experts already. makes daily forecasts a requirement...but doesn't explain how to do them very well. tests are very difficult. online assignments are also hard.
Class is very boring. Powerpoint presentations are repetitive. Doesn't teach students how to do anything. Is always gone for weeks during the semester.
Students complain that this class is hard and she teaches it like an upper level course-HELLO we're in college-it's not easy high school crap. I got an EASY A in this class, and I loved it. It's easy if you review the chapters before the test.
I like her accent
Cinzia means well, but her powerpoints are extremely detailed and hard to follow. She could make the class easier, but also a lot harder. She's got some humor and an interesting accent. She's gone a lot and so Flory takes over and that guy rocks. I wouldn't recommend the class...take Astro/Geo!
Excellent prof. Love the accent!
She does so many stupid, pointless activities in class that it makes my head hurt. Powerpoint lectures are full of crap that doesn't relate to the test. Wastes time in class that could otherwise be spent doing something productive.
I think she is one of the best profs I have had! She does a wonderful job explaining things, make things very clear, and her activities in class are good. Excellent, and the people that don't like her are just stupid. It is geology 100 it really isn't that hard unless you really don't try! So go to class, don't be stupid & **** about something eas
Easiest class ever. She highlights test material on her Powerpoints and accepts late homework with no penalty. Class activities are usually pretty fun, lecture is usually interesting. Tests are easy.
just do what u have to do and go to class and u will get an A
Only take a class from her if you have a high tolerance for BS and busywork. It made me mad that she was still accepting late assignments several days or weeks after they were due. If you aren't responsible enough to turn your work in on time, you don't deserve to pass.
She loves Geology and tries to make it relevant for the rest of us. The class was okay, but there was definitely a lot of busy work that was not worth many points. Tests are not too bad.
if you go to class, d oyour work, don't worry about the tests much. did jeopordy and helped a lot. book wasn't very helpful ... class is where you fill in blnks she leaves in notes. everything you can make up except a few assignments.
The Good: -LOTS of extra credit -Huge curve -Attendance not mandatory -Can drop lowest test -25% of a test can be done in a group -She accepts late assignments The Bad: -Annoying accent -A lot of homework and should go to class everyday or you miss tedious in-class assignments and quizzes -Tests are confusing -DON'T buy the book, all l
Class is pretty easy.
Easy class.
Geology of the Earth is definately a freshman course. She spent class time discussing how to use Web CT!!!! I took this course as a easy science w/o a lab and it was just that. She style of teaching is geared heavily towards freshman, which means that a lot of times class is just ridiculous. It is an easy course but completely babyfied.
Extremely helpful and fun
Highly recommended. Great teacher. Gives you everything you need to get an A. Very Helpful!
She is a nice teacher. Sometimes she puts up a lot of useless notes in class, so when it comes to studying it's a bit overwhelming. Otherwise, it is an easy class especially since extra credit and easy in-class assignments are given.
I heard the class was easy, and by no means was it. I attended class and still did very poorly on all the tests. I got D's on all of them.. however i ended up with a B- in the class?!? i would suggst a different course if you want an easy science class to fulfill requirements!
Really easy class if you go over your notes, but difficult to pay attention because the material is kind of boring.
The teacher is nice and willing to help. The class is fairly difficult (b/c it's boring), even if you do go to class. I did poorly on the exams, however, there are in-class quizes and assignments. So go to class, and you'll be fine. You don't need the textbook.
She's practically handing out A's in this class.
I found the Professor very helpful when asked a question and additional Q & A on line. We did not use the book however it was helpful for deeper study of geology. Many find the subject boring, but after this class I love it! For an older lady she looks great.
The material is easy and she provides many opportunities for points, but she is a rude person and her accent is hard to understand. She puts too many of her own opinions into the lectures and argues it as fact. She doesn't make learning about Earth as interesting as other teachers have.
I liked this class, and the professor. She made the material enjoyable. She posts lecture notes online. Don't skip class often, she give around 10 unannounced quizzes in the semester. The class has an AMAZING curve. Make sure you do the forecasts and the assignments, it hurts if you don't. The forecasts are easy points.
I though this class would be a good elective but it turned out not to be. It was not a enjoyable class to go to. Her infomation was hard to understand and she made her tests way to hard as well. I would not recommend to take this class with this professor. Keep on looking you will find a better prof.
Ms. Cervato was extremely hard to understand and the tests were incredibly challenging even for those that studied.
She is terrible. I took this class to get an easy A and ended up with a D+. It is a pointless class with her. Do not take any class with her.
Classes are pretty boring and it is difficult to comprehend all the information presented in a single class period. She puts all notes and ppts online before class; print and bring along. She treats the class like 1st graders, but then the tests are not so easy... 1st is simple, then they get progressively harder. Don't buy the textbook.
As long as you pay attention and study a little, its an easy class. She also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. Her accent can be a little strange but nothing too challenging to understand.
She's a nice professor and if you attend class in order to not miss the suprise quizzes and in-class assignments, you will end up with a decent grade b/c of extra credit and her easy grading scale. Take the class.
Should be an easy class, she just tries to make geology hard. Teacher is terrible, anyone could teach what she does. Ended up with an A- because of a mistake she made on my final grade. Wouldn't even hear me out and make the correction or email me back. Very unprofessional. Treats students like they're in 3rd grade.
Classes are extremely boring, hard to pay attention, and it is difficult to comprehend all the information on her powerpoints. Tests are hard to study for due to the fact that there is so much information and most of it isn't on the test. Horrible teacher. Makes the class harder than it should be.
Came into this class thinking it was easy, but there is way too much material and she flies through it. Half of the material on the exams are taken from little things in the notes.
Thought it would be easy, but she goes very quick through power points. She also covers a lot of material, so tests are difficult. Make sure you do in class activities.
She is so nice, but there is way too much material. It's a fasted paced class, and tests are very hard!
A somewhat challenging class. Curve really helps for how hard the tests are. Frustrating professor to try and talk to one on one about grading, or moving the final due to having another exam at the same time. Wouldnt recommend taking. Trys to influence student beliefs by pulling absurd statistics to support what she thinks.
impossible to reach in person. not very lenient
She was very nice but not can be very hard to confront after class since she leaves so fast. Class was mostly graded on homework and in class quizzes so the final grades balance the hard tests.
I thought this class would be pretty easy, but she likes to fly through lectures making it impossible to take decent notes. Also, some things on the test were never discussed in lecture making them pretty difficult. She seemed nice, but this was definitely my least favorite class
Loves her subject, teaches it quite well (but also quickly, so be prepared to take a lot of notes). Material on the tests is usually all in the in-class powerpoints, which are posted online. Had to do a little bit of reading from the text. Has an agenda on global warming, and pretends to present it fairly, so be prepared. Overall, though, good.
An easy class but she flies through lectures. She loves Geology but she can be rude. Tests aren't hard but usually contain a couple questions that we never discussed.
Cervato is very, very hard to understand when she speaks. Most of it's not her fault, she had a stroke and has an accent, but talks very quickly and not very thoroughly during her slides so you go to write and look to see she's ahead. She did not go as in depth in topics even though she expects you to know the information in depth on the tests.
Very little homework. This was an easy class for me, but I know some people thought the tests were hard. She goes through the material quickly, and you need to attend the lectures. If you like geology and take notes in class, you'll do great. Review days before tests are helpful for knowing what will be covered. Some questions are common sense!
She gives you a pre-test in class before the tests, but surprise there is only 1-2 questions that even relate to the pre-test. Incredibly boring. Covers multiple chapters per week.
Hard to understand due to a stroke she had a couple years ago. There is a lot of homework to do before every class meeting, and during every class she gives around 20 points (give or take a few).
Expect no teaching and be graded on material not explained. She is very hard to understand due to a stroke. Very difficult class. Drop the class if you can.
Very online orientated. Class isn't a lecture but instead a Q&A online for points. Homework is also online with videos and questions. I was able to look past the weird set up, because I find the content very interesting. Do not take for an easy A if it is not something you're interested in. She is hard for some people to understand due to a stroke
If you are taking this class because you think it'll be easy, think again. It is extremely difficult and Cervato is a terrible professor. She makes the class way harder than it needs to be. There is a curve, but even with it, you'll have a hard time. Honestly, just do the best that you can and get out of there with a proud C.
She is arrogant or extremely stupid. She honestly believes Geology is this amazing and very easy thing. She thinks everyone in her intro class is there because of their passion for Geology. She gets confused as to why the class averages on every Exam are a 50%, the fact that she doesn't teach at all seems to escape her. She's extremely arrogant!
She is a nice teacher but there is a lot of work.
She doesn't lecture in class. All we do is take quizzes "for correctness".Most of the questions have more than one right answer and she says you get it wrong because you didn't read. She is unwilling to help you outside of class and she doesn't teach. She doesn't understand why the average for her tests are a D or lower. Drop it as soon as possible
Love Dr. Cervato! Whenever I go to her office and ask her questions she's super helpful and engaging and puts in the effort to make sure I understand what's going on. You can tell she loves talking to students because she encourages coming to her office all the time. Also an easy A class if you do the work!
This class was rough. The class is more of a long pop quiz than a lecture. Don't take it with her, ANYONE else would be better.
She doesn't lecture at all, but you have to show up to get points. Reading is required, but even if you read, the questions in class are still hard and she grades them harshly. Her tests are difficult no matter how much you study and her study guides are sometimes pointless, but it's hard to know beforehand, so study everything. Way too much work.
I am telling you just don't take her class or you'll regret it.
Can't understand anything that she spits out all class which is extremely annoying and frustrating. Yells all class and does not have any room for mistakes. All you do is answer questions every class. If you show up even thirty seconds late on a pop quiz day you might as well leave because you won't be able to get a quiz.
Tough to get an A, Easy B. Class is just answering multiple choice questions on your computer the whole time and can be done from home. TA was by far most helpful in teaching material but Prof Cervato told her TA to NOT hold anymore exam review sessions and those were the only thing that taught me anything. Find another prof. or another course.
Lots of online homework, daily reflections and in class points you need to pass, random quizzes during the semester that were impossible. Cummalitive Exams were hard besides she allows us to take a second part for less points and use notes so if you did bad you will just even out. Told our TA to now do a final exam review for the Cummalitive Final.
Way too much work for a 100 level course. All the assignments don't make sense and never have anything to do with the exams. I have no idea what I am doing 95% of the time and neither do any of my group members.
Professor Cervato's class is not hard at all, most of the stuff in online and you can look it up same goes for homework. This class has a lot of homework which will take time. I took this class for Gen ED and didn't have a good time. If you're looking for an easy A then this is the class, if you want something with less HW then don't take this cla
Way too much work for a 100 level class. Don't take it as an elective. The material is interesting for the most part but the class takes up way too much time for what it's worth. Dr. Cervato is good one on one but can often talk down to students and be hard disrespectful to students. Definitely knowledgeable in content which is a plus.
Supposed to be one of the easiest classes at ISU, but I'm doing more work and understanding less in this class than any other class. I struggle to understand what she's saying, and what she's talking about, she also flies by topics too quickly, but tons of extra credit available. said book was opt, then quiz over book and reading/in depth exampl
This professor was the worst. You get an online textbook that she requires you to read a chapter a day, then take pre/post-lecture assignments on it that basically determine your grade. If you dont do those then you wont do well in the class. Her lectures are pointless and you learn nothing, attendance is mandatory otherwise it affects your grade
Hey, so unlike a lot of people here I am an actual Geology major and I really enjoyed this class. Keep in mind I knew practically nothing going in considering my last earth science class was 9th grade. I really enjoyed this class, I thought the lectures were super helpful and well done, I also really appreciated the demonstrations. I ran out of wor
So she did mention in the beginning of the semester that her grade averages have been a B- for the past few years and did say that if you want a good grade you will have to put in the effort and participate. She also offers a lot of extra credit I think, if you're willing to put in the work. Exams require studying.
Cervato's Geo 100 class was relatively easy. For a level 100 class, there is lots of work. There is LC lecture questions for points in every class. At least 2 homework assignments and reading after each lecture. If you stay on top of the work it is easy. She also gives out SO MUCH extra credit like almost every class. Tests are pretty easy as well.
Dr. Cervato is extremely knowledgable in her field but she is very rude and mean. She does not respect her students and she is not a caring or accommodating professor at all.
All of the class is reading. That's all you do. Most of your learning is done in a textbook. In lectures, you have to move around to collaborate which is annoying in a lecture hall. She's also impossible to understand. You must attend lectures as you are quizzed for participation and correctness in every single class. Don't recommend it.
"pLeAse OpEN LeARniNG CatAlytics"
She's smart, but very rude. Does not make any accommodations, even if said accommodations are required by school policy. 0/10 do not recommend. Beyond her just being rude, she also has at least two homework assignments and a reading for every lecture (6+ assignments per week). Does not seem to care about students at all.
I enjoyed Dr. Cervato's GEOL 100. I didn't get too much out of her lectures personally, but the class was pretty fair. If you do what I did and never read the textbook, complete all homework assignments and do all the extra credit (easy), this class should be an easy A or B.
There is so much to say, and all the other ratings I have read about her are accurate. She does not work with students at all, is disrespectful, very hard to understand (not her fault she has an accent), so much homework you can't understand a topic because you are scrambling to finish assignments (homework can take up to over an hour). never again
This class is for people that like Geology, not those looking to fulfill their gen-ed requirements. The incentive structure punishes those who want to finish everything assigned with catch-up EC, rather than assign a manageable amount of work. The partner system requires that other people have read and want to participate. Awful, hardest class.
As far as accommodations go, she's one of the least accommodating professors I've had. She is very knowledgeable and willing to answer content questions during class. However, I wish she would take more time to understand accommodations, how to implement them, and why some students have different needs than others.
She is very unwilling to be accommodating to students. Personally very rude and harsh. Gives very poor and uninteresting lectures. Grueling to complete the class.
You will NOT pass if you don't show up. Tests are also NOTHING like the study guide. Also get ready to read so so much, and assignments (up to three a week) take about 40 min each. This professor is not very friendly and is extremely difficult to work with. I took this course thinking it was an easy natural science credit, I was really tricked.
Going into this class and seeing all the awful reviews about her was very scary, and throughout the semester I've had 0 issues whatsoever, she is not awful, not rude, and honestly a pretty easy class, all the homework answers can be found online, tests are based on what she talks about in class, lots of extra credit opportunities.
This class was about as free as it gets. Show up to lecture and take 10 minutes to do the extra credit and you'll be fine. Lectures are fine, some days are more interesting than others, better than most of my professors.
Do not take this class with her if you just want an easy physical science credit. There are usually around 6-8 homework assignments per week and they are extremely time consuming. She is also extremely hard to understand and rude at times. The tests are also dumb, you have to take them and then retake them again with a partner.
Be prepared for lots of homework every week. Do not take if you just need an easy science credit. I spent most of my time on this class and still ended up having to get a tutor. She is very hard to understand so you really have to pay attention. You will end up taking each exam twice, once by yourself and once with others.
Cinzia Cervato is one of the most uncaring, and unkind professors I have had the displeasure of encountering. She is astute in her knowledge however she cannot convey that knowledge in an understandable or digestible manner. She is extremely unwilling to work with students who need extra help or assistance. Genuinely, worst professor I've ever had.
This professor knows their stuff, that is no question. They consistently show their knowledge in lectures. The problem that arises is the extent to which she is not able to present the content in a digestible manner. In this class, you have to make sure that you learn from the textbook and not the professor because the lecture is just review
