Class is taught like an advanced class but is an intro. Gets mad when people do not know the answer. Does not review material for tests.
This class wasn't so bad. The tests are hard but she does tell you what to review. Takes attendance and you have 3 tests during the semester including the final. You write a 10 page paper also.
Class wasn't extremely hard, but wasn't extremely easy either. You had to know your stuff (dates especially) otherwise she would take off points. From what I remember, most of the test was based on the in class notes...so there are really no surprises.

It is a one hundred level history class, and foro the test she gives no review she just says know everything dates and who what where when and why. She is very intense about teaching and she gets md if u do not participate
OH MY GOD I SHOULD HAVE DROPPED THIS CLASS. IT IS A TWO HUNDRED LEVEL COURSE WHY IS IT SO HARD. A 12 PAGE PAPER ALONG WITH AN ANNOTATED BIB AND ABSTRACT. WHAT IS THIS. TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE WITH NO REVIEW AND 50 PAGES OF NOTES FOR EACH TEST.DO NOT TAKE
Even intro Hist. classes are supposed to have term papers people... Of all the Hist. classes I've taken, this Prof. is neither too hard, nor really easy. If you take decent notes and actually read the book you'll be OK.
She was an easy grader on the papers, but holy crap was she boring. Plus her tests were ridiculous. They had pretty much nothing to do with what she taught.
Okay let's be fair. She knows what she is doing. The way to get ahead is just by reading the chapters. Of course if people look at her with blank faces she'll get mad.
She was hard and very boring and not very clear
Oh, do I dislike this professor! She is NOT boring, but her tests are ridiculous and she is a verh hard grader. She doesn't care about you or wheter or not you have learned anything....BEWARE and STAY AWAY
obviously, she sucks. she could care less about you as an individual. very boring, an extreme amout of boring pointless work. she sucked the life out of an interesting topic. i would not reccomend her to an enemy.
Come on, people. If you are history majors, you should enjoy her. If not, then avoid her because she is tough. However, I took her 4 times AND she was my advisor, and she got me 2 jobs in my field. Thumbs up.
Prof. Meyer is wonderful and very knowledgable. She is tough, but come on guys this is college! You're supposed to work hard!
i thought she was pretty good. some reading was kinda boring, but she stated that up front. do the work your supposed to & you'll should be fine. as for lack of a review, she gave review sheets to my class and she wasn't a real stickler about dates
if you pay attention in class, and take your time on her tests, you'll be fine
Bah. I certainly didnt enjoy this class. Meyer didnt really phase me. Her teaching was straight out of the book, and was kind of boring. Alot of people disagree with me, but I just didnt like her. I wouldnt recommend anyone to take her class.
very dull and a hard grader
She's amazing. She's one of my top 3 professors that I've ever had. Very intelligent, but expects a lot. She gets mad if you don't do the reading, as a professor should. Take her class and do the work and you'll do fine, she's a great professor.
Great teacher. Class is interesting and she enjoys what she does. Lectures are easy and clear and you really don't have to read to understand everything (although it will help in the long run).
I found her to be knowledgable about her material. However, the reading course load is very intense at the beginning of the year. Do not fall behind in your reading or else your grades will suffer. Picky on the exams and the research paper.
Myers is a great professor-very knowledgable and clear on the subject. Moderate amont of reading. Three exams and a research paper. Gives study guides for every exam and every answer is on them. Strongly recommend!
Great professor, full of knowledge and very interesting. She uses videos, songs, and posters to help teach the class. But if you're not a history major, don't take her. She is very picky on the research papers and exams. Other than that, she's great.
Great Professor! Just do the readings and you will be fine. Three exams with five identifications, a short essay, and a longer essay. 8-10 page research paper as well. She is a great person if you take the time to get to know her.
She is a great professor. very dedicated to the material. Only one research paper. I love this class i have learned alot. Not hard if u do all the reading and study.
Very boring teacher! Her tests are crazy. Hard grader and unflexible teacher.
absolute crazy woman. tests are nearly impossible and she accused me of plagarism on my research paper. unbending in all decisions and forms her own opinions of student before even getting to know them or see their work.
Great Prof. Very dedicated to History. Learned alot from her. Can be difficult at times but overall enjoyable. Review sheets for exams so even though exams are difficult, studying is facilitated by reviews. Shows movies and plays songs to make things interesting.
Excellent Professor. If you want to learn and you are not lazy, take her classes. One of Ramapo's finest.
Don't take this class if you don't care at all about history. Very knowledgable and personable professor. Tough exams and research paper, but she's very helpful if you give her a chance. Not an easy class, but I'm glad I took because i learned a lot.
She is knows what she is teaching & is very interesting. If you like history, you will love her class.
She is not that great. She accused me of plagrism when I took a long time to write my paper. She runs through the subject you get lost very easily. She doesn't give you time to absorb the information and her tests are difficult because she gives you a sheet with all the ID's there could possibly be
The best teacher I ever had, I liked her so much I took her 2 times. However, if you don't like history don't take this class. She gives so many notes there really is no reason for you to fail, you don't even have to read the book all you have to do it take good notes. Totally recommend her.
Very boring class and lots of reading. This time period isn't all that interesting to begin with, but she tries to make it interesting and she does know what she is talking about. Very tough grader and papers and tests.
Very nice outside of class, extremely tough grader...one of those "i wrote a 30 page paper in one night with one cup of coffee in college and so can you" professors, will go out of her way to help you out, trys very hard to make history interesting with music, stories, photos, etc. funny, there is a lot of humor in class, you just have to listen
Wonderful class! I learned so much taking this class. At times she can be tough but in the end it's worth it. Very knowledgable and knows exactly what she's talking about. Uses movies, music to make the class more interesting. Gives 3 exams and one long research paper. Not too bad if you study and work hard. Definitely take her class.
Very interesting class and a lot of reading but if you go to class and pay attention you'll be fine. Prof. Meyer is tough but very knowledgable and nice.
She was one of the hardest teachers i have ever had but she graded fairly if you tried. Almost never had any written homework, just a bunch of reading. You really have to like history to take her course if you want to get out with a B.
Cater Meyer-Jones is tough, but she is so interesting and you get what you put into her classes. One of the best teachers/mentors I have ever had.
Her midterms, final, and research paper are very hard. You need plenty of time to study for her midterms/finals.But you'll learn! If you don't like history try to avoid her.Anyone who says she's not helpful didn't even bother asking her for it.
prof. meyer's class was extremely interesting....she knows what she's talking about and really keeps your attention. tough but fair grader, you learn a LOT in her class...a lot of reading, but well worth it - take her if you can, overall you won't regret it!
Great class if you love history; terrible if you don't. If you are looking to get an easy A this is NOT the class for you. I worked harder in this class than any other, but I came out with an A and feel like I really learned things. Tough grader that will tear your writing to pieces, but I would def. take her again.
a GREAT professor....not the easiest, but it is def. possible to get A's...you learn so much and she makes it interesting simply through her enthusiasm. you have to be willing to learn for her, but you will no matter what! i came out with a good comman of the material... if you have the chance, take her, you won't regret it!
Great professor! Knows so much but at the same time wants you to know just as much. Not many grades but the paper is pretty easy. Need to do a lot of work for the class but everything comes out of notes. She is great at really getting the ideas across to the class. The notes get very detailed but you will learn a lot if you take her.
Class was interesting. Lots of notes. Gives a TON of reading assignments. Gave 2 tests, a project, and a paper. The tests were all essay, only 3 questions and you got to choose. The project was a short paper and a presentation of 15 minutes on an assigned topic. The paper was 15-20 pages. Despite all the work, not a bad teacher.
I LOVEED THIS CLASS AND THE TEACHER. she told you what you needed to know, and she made everything understandable. Has a passion for teaching, and learning more herself. She is one of those professors who knows, and loves what she;s doing.
Amer Gilded Age & Prog Era: HARD class. I despise history, so it was difficult for me, but required for my major. Had to study my ass off just to get a B. Lecture style, pretty boring, but she's enthusiastic & knowledgeable. Class notes are a mile long. Its a level 2 class, but she makes more like a 3. Tough exams but you get a study guide.
200-level class, but treats it more like a 300-level. Gives a lot of reading assignments, some of which are hard to follow or just plain boring. One big paper for the class. Midterm and final that you get a study guide for. Each test is 3 sections, first 2 you get to choose 1 of 2 essays, and the 3rd is a long essay. Ok class and not a bad teacher.
She was tough. History has always been my subject but she grades so difficultly that i only escaped with a C. Exams are essay based and you better know every detail and include it or you're screwed. Stickler for writing style too, grades like an english teacher. Very hard
Cool professor. She's challenging, but I learned a lot from her. Lectures are interesting, and she uses lots of art, photos, music & films. Highly recommended!
really good prof. definitely demands a high level of scholarship; don't take if you aren't willing to put forth some effort. it's rewarded though -- you learn a lot from prof. meyer and her classes are interesting. readings are a bit overwhelming, but they all have significance. highly recommended for the serious student!
Only has 4 grades for the semester which could be good or bad. 3 Exams and 1 research paper. I got a B- on every single assignment so she must like B's or I am cursed. You also do a paper proving experiential. Interesting primary sources. A lot of reading but over all interesting class. If you re looking for an easy Gen Ed, try to avoid her.
She's an ok professor. TONS of reading, but it was a seminar class. Used 5 books in class..2 book reviews and 3 quizzes based on them. 20+ page research paper, and a 15 minute presentation on it. Tough grader, but she's that way with all classes. Topic got a little boring at times, but she's really enthusiastic about it, which is cool.
one of the best professor at ramapo, hands down. she covers every angle of your class topic so you leave feeling like you know a lot about the subject. demanding work but WELL worth it. very enthusiastic. take her!!!!
Took her for US History II. Enthusiastic and makes class interesting, even if you dislike history. Tons of notes and lecture can be a little boring at time, but used music/videos. Exams were challenging& she expects a lot from students, but well worth it-you'll learn a great deal.10 pg paper and 12 journal entries. Good prof for a serious student!
so much work. pulled my only all nighters in college with her. between the papers, the journal entries, and the tests. its so much. the tests are all essays. she gets crazy with the experiential. shes very smart but honestly could not pay attention in class. history bores me. oh and her laugh is miserable haha
I love professor Meyer. Her classes were always interesting. she does give a lot a lot of reading and a big research paper thats usually due towards the end of the semester but its a 300 level class so it's gonna be a lot of work.. shes very helpful and cares about her students if you make an effort.
She's not a mean person, but she's out of her mind when it comes to assigning work. This is an intro course; the workload matches a 300 or 400 level one easily. I'm a history major, and this class was an absolute fiasco. Never, ever taking her again. I do not recommend her either unless you have no other choice.
Do not take this lady, trust me here. In all honesty, i am a good writer and i studied hard for the exams and could not manage over a 73. Ten page research paper due end of semester. She is one of those professors that you ask yourself "does she know that i take other classes than just hers." DO NOT TAKE.
nice lady but TONS of work for a gen-ed course. history is my major and I had to work really hard to get a B in the class. she's a really hard grader and her tests are all essays. the work load is comparable to a 300 level class. gives a 10 page research paper and lots of journal entries that you have to actually read for do not take her
She makes class interesting, but te workload is horrendous. I'm a history major and I worked my butt off to get a b+. Still she's nice and better than slot of history prof at Ramapo. I wil taker for a harder class but not a100 level
taken her for a gen ed and she is hard she expects way to much from her students. she tests are essay form so she expects you to know every little detail. So unless you love history and a good writer don't take her!!
Had her for American West back in 07. Incredibly intelligent woman. She takes no nonsense with her students, and is a fairly hard grader but not draconian. Try to avoid her as she is one of the harder teachers there. But if you have a solid history background and can write papers (the two aren't mutually exclusive)you'll do fine.
HORRENDOUS! if death is an immediate goal of yours, feel free to take her. Way too much work and an almost impossible 10 pg research paper at the end. I am an A student but will surely get a D or F in her class. All tests are hardcore. MUST do good on her 2 tests, final, and 1 research paper since these are the only grades. No HW but to read.
I had Professor Meyer for Intro to US History II, and I can honestly say that she is one of the best professors I ever had. True, she is tough and there's a lot of work, but you will learn a ton. I worked hard and got an A-, so it's not impossible. Just study, do your work, and participate in class and you'll be fine.
I personally liked the class, but that could be because I picked up on the topics very easily. I'm not a history major, so the work load could be considered a lot for a Gen-Ed but it wasn't horrific. If you actually try, you'll be okay. write down her notes, you'll need it for her study guides
Prof. Meyer was a great professor. You can really learn a lot from her. You must write detailed notes. Anything on the board must go in your notebook. This is critical for her study guides. She is a very intelligent professor and is a strict but fair grader. Would not suggest taking her unless you are interested in History. If you are, take her.
Do not take this class if you are unconcerned about your gpa. She assigns nothing but mountains of reading for homwork and the quizzes and exam and paper (which is nothing but essays) is what she grades. If you are a slow reader or uninterested in history never take her.She is sweet, but demands too much from you, and expects you to know everything
Only take her if you're a history major. She has an unnatural love for history that I, as a science person and nursing major, find sickening. Her intro class may as well be for third years. Tests are ridiculously hard and impossible to complete; more than a third fail on a regular basis. Completely and utterly useless, boring class. Do not take.
No interest going into the class;however, ended up being my favorite class. individual 10 min ppt presentation, film analysis paper 15 pages, all tests are multiple essay questions. for tests be prepared to write 12 pages in an hour and a half
No interest going into the class;however, ended up being my favorite class. individual 10 min ppt presentation, film analysis paper 15 pages, all tests are multiple essay questions. for tests be prepared to write 12 pages in an hour and a half.m
Is not helpful whatsoever, demands a lot of extreme reading. Her tests are impossible to get a good grade on, has a lot of essays throughout the semester, and demands a 10 page paper at the end of the semester. Her final exam was impossible to pass, and demands remember everything she said during the semester,If you plan on graduating don't take her
Awful professor she expects you to memorize the whole textbook, she assigns countless papers throughout the semester and her tests and final exam are impossible to get a good grade on! Her research paper is at least 15 pages!!! AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!
To do well, you need to read and pay attention in class. The readings may be a lot for some, but I found them doable even with 3 other classes and a part-time job. I suppose you need a certain interest in history to enjoy her class, but she will teach you how to make an effective arguement, a great skill in business and many other career paths.
She does assign quite a bit of reading but not a crazy amount. Has a clear passion for education and the subject matter, and willing to help. She scheduled meeting times to discuss our projects. And welcomes us to stop by her office hours. Not an easy A but if you work hard, you'll get an A. Writing is important for her class though.
Very good professor! I was nervous to take this class since I was never good at U.S History, but if you read the textbook and listen to what she says, you will do fine. She is a nice lady and her tests weren't bad at all.
She is a tough pill to swallow. I took her twice for two different courses because she is a good professor BUT I would not recommend her. Her exams are extremely difficult. For example you need to write 5 open ended paragraphs, picture analysis and 3 essays all in one class time. I would avoid her but she's not TOO unmanageable.
I do not recommend this course at all. Meyer is a tough professor honestly and her exams are extremely difficult. The course work is a lot and its very difficult to learn and understand. I took this to fulfill my intercultural north american gen ed and its the biggest regret so far of college. She has a midterm and a final and a 15 page paper due.
Meyer is straightforward in what she expects. There are three exams throughout the semester that take up the whole class but if you study for them (she gives you the terms and essay questions) they are quite easy. There is an 8-10 page paper and an oral presentation and that is it. She gives great feedback and I would definitely take her again.
She is very straightforward with what she wants. If you come to class and take notes on the powerpoints you'll do fine. There's a 12-15 page paper and a powerpoint, but she works with you throughout the semester so you know what you're doing. two tests, but she gives review sheets. just respect her and pay attention and you'll do fine.
She's nice and is passionate about her subject, but this is a tough class. Her exams are open ended questions and there's 3 exams, a 10 page research paper, and a presentation. She's kind of a tough grader as well and her lectures are extremely boring. She also assigns a lot of reading. The class is manageable but there are easier classes then her
It is very boring and lecture heavy, but it is a history course. Only 3 tests but are not easy, study!! One 8-10 page paper (CHICAGO!!), and a presentation. Tough grader, but she is passionate about her subject, you can find an easier professor!
Very lecture heavy. In my honest opinion, she isn't the best but definitely not the worst. Her tests are pretty straightforward, however the final paper due at the end of the semester was pretty tough. Definitely not an easy A sort of class but easy enough for you to want to take it.
