She lectures very well and is specific on what you need to know for the exams! Awesome professsor!

Claire is hands down the best professor I've had and most likely at Davis. She really wants all of her students to succeed and is such a genuine and caring person and professor. If you want a great experience, take Claire and work hard to make her proud! Thanks for a great quarter Claire!

Solid ectures, maybe goes a little too slowly. Tests are fair, and she curves if grades are low which every professor does pretty much. Lot of people seem to do well in her class. A ton of lecture participation

Attendance to lecture is not mandatory cause you can always watch the recorded lecture videos, but I urge you to attend lecture anyway because she gives extra credit clicker points. She's really funny and a great lecturer. She's very precise in her teaching and expectations. She will definitely try her best to make concepts clear to students.

From the first day of class, we all knew this would be an Organic Chemistry Professor like no other. With a commanding presence, she expounded upon the virtues of critical thinking, understanding the material, and above all else doing the work. Next quarter I will be taking 118B with her, and I consider myself very blessed indeed.

She's a wonderful professor who engages you and is interesting. She is also very nit-picky. She refused to regrade my exam because I forgot to staple the cover sheet. Beware and make sure you follow all instructions

She cares so much about the students and is always checking in to make sure she is teaching what we need. Her tests are hard because the subject is hard, but she is very reasonable. Her office hours are super helpful as well. She is very approachable and cool, and even makes lectures funny.

Professor Filloux is an amazing teacher. It is very clear in every lecture that she truly cares for her students and wants each and every one of us to succeed. She is very open to suggestions as to how to adapt her lectures to better help her students understand. Claire makes the material interesting and she's also hilarious! 100% would recommend.

I was surprised how much extra credit there is for an OChem class. Extra credit by answering clicker questions during lecture. Claire is nice and gives good lectures. She will spent too much time on one subject to make sure everyone gets the concept. I went into OChem thinking this will be an extremely tough class, but it is average with her.

I love Claire. She is incredibly passionate and so awkwardly-nerdy it makes you laugh. Material is tough but she is very fair. Lots of EC. My only complaint is that her lecture/review problems are Word docs which is very annoying, but I will not fault her too much for her lack of pdf conversion. Love u anyway Claire!!!! :)

Professor Filloux was a huge change to the past science/math professors I've had. She is SO personable & teaches in a way that makes the material easy to absorb. It's probably at a slower pace than the standard here, but considering most students were able to actually understand the content on a deeper, more significant level, it's no big deal.

I was so scared of o chem going into this course but Claire made the class so fun and made me excited for lectures. She even brought her mom once. Her lecture notes are very clear and the problems she gives to do at home are very similar to problems she gives on tests. Also, there are ample opportunities for extra credit.

Claire is the kind of professor that makes you wanna go to class. She is so smart, funny and her enthusiasm about organic chemistry is contagious. She really wants her students to excel by interacting with and understanding the material instead of rote learning. I'm so glad I took her and will definitely take her again in the future. 10/10.

Professor Filloux is absolutely amazing, she really cares about making sure that her students understand the material and will make an effort to learn students names. Her quizzes and tests were all fair and based off of material that we learned in the class.

Professor covers difficult material in logical and engaging lectures, however she is a difficult grader, as your answers must be worded precisely. The overall grade is divided between take home quizzes and midterms so you are more likely to have a higher grade if, for example, you do well on the quizzes but poorly on midterms. Offers extra credit

She is really enthusiatic and she really cares about her students, really wants you to learn/succeed. She does more problems in class then teaching concepts and she likes to goes indepth about certain things so she ends up falling behind by alot. She doesnt teach you what you would need for other classes/mcat. Overall, nice lady but isnt very good

Imp to attend lecture if you want the e.c. clicker pts (you will!), but her lectures are also podcasted - helpful to review before exams. Lectures are devoted to practice problems & answering questions. Wants students to understand material, not just memorize, and tests reflect this. I could listen to her talk about her special needs doves all day

Claire is one of the best professor I have ever had. She is different from other chemistry professors. I believe her teaching method is way better than memorizing reactions or mechanisms. She teaches us the real meaning of organic chemistry. If you go to lecture, take good notes (or just download from canvas), and do her practice. You'll get an A!!

Claire's teaching style is very unique and engaging. At times she is sporadic and will spend great amounts of time explaining a concept a million ways to get as many people possible to understand. Office hours are super helpful and she truly cares about students and chemistry. Her research is in how chemistry is learned which I find cool.

Good engaging lecture style and very clear with explaining the concepts used in lab for the class with a reasonable final, if you know the content, go to class, and pay attention you'll do fine in the class, final, and on lab reports. The lab reports will depend on your TA but actually lay the groundwork for techniques used constantly in CHE 129B.

129A is 3 lectures a week and a lab section. Claire is well-spoken but she does talk a little fast. Grades are based on weekly quizzes (1 try online, but easy if you took notes in class), lab sheets she has you print out and fill out for TA to grade, extra credit clickers, and a final. No surprises overall. Great prof. Office hours are helpful!

Super funny and nice, and will take time to get to know you even though there are 400 other students. Offers extra credit, and definitely holds your hand and walks you through chemistry.

Professor Filloux was the best professor that I have ever had at UC Davis. Her lectures are extremely useful, almost like an extended office hour. Exams are straightforward and very doable. Shes a very smart individual and her passion for organic chemistry keeps me engaged in the material, and makes me do well on her exams! Definitely recommend!!!

Lectures are clear, with plenty of example problems that are similar to those on the quizzes and final. Lab reports are the biggest part of the grade, and they're short and to the point. Quizzes are done on Canvas and are open note. Class is not curved, but as long as you attend every lecture and put in the effort on lab reports, should be easy A.

While there is a good amount of outside work you have to do in order to do well, I believe she gave us all the resources necessary to succeed. Many students seem to dislike her teaching style, I found lectures incredibly concise and helpful. Her pre-lecture quizzes/reading help significantly. Midterms, while difficult are very fair.

Filloux is an amazing person and professor. She is enthusiastic and makes organic chemistry understandable if you put in the time and effort. Dr. Filloux is a great professor. Best professor I've had at Davis. She makes the concepts easy to understand but you have to put in a lot of work outside of class to do well. Attendance is key because she does clicker questions and mechanisms in class. If you put in the work, you'll get a good grade.

Easiest class i've ever taken

Filloux is a great professor. I've had her and one other professor so far and she is best one. She offered so many opportunities for points (you have to work for them). People who say she is the hardest ever, clearly haven't had the other professor yet. She has two midterms, Lecture reading with quizzes (with multiple tries) and weekly quizes.

If you are a chemistry major or passionate about ochem I recommend Claire. She makes you really think about every concept behind reactions and will give extremely difficult material on exams. She's a great lecturer but her class will be the death of you if you are just looking to memorize reactions. No curve. Premeds looking for an easy A beware.

I understand that CHE118 is difficult for many people, so I can only speak on my behalf. Dr. Filloux is one of the best professors I've had. She cares about her students, and tries harder than any professor I know. She is invested in your education and wants you to know, understand, and apply the material, which can be hard, but rewarding.

I had Claire for A and B, and she improved so much. The structure of the class helps you succeed (ie the Problem of the week helps you with the quiz which helps you with the midterm). I felt like I actually understand ochem this quarter unlike for A (and maybe even enjoyed it??). This was still an extremely hard class but Claire is the best choice.

Claire provides great guidance. She's very organized in that she posts her lecture videos and notes promptly after class. And she assigns one synthesis and one mechanism problem every week that really help you learn. I've learned more in her class than I ever did in Nasiri's 118A class. Claire actually made ochem very enjoyable for me! SO TAKE HER!

An amazing professor. She genuinely shows an interest in teaching her students. The free response questions for her exams are usually based off problems she assigns for homework or for extra practice. She teaches the why behind ochem rather than having us only memorize things from the textbook. Makes you work for an A but lays the foundation for it

Super funny and engaging. Her lecture are informative and helpful and she tries hard to help you and learn your name. A lot of unfair comments. The class is very hard because the subject is almost all conceptual. She offers lots of assignments to make up for no curve. She provide all the tools you need to succeed. And shes really funny.

Not sure why Claire gets so much hate on here, I think she's such a gem! She's an excellent lecturer and her personality makes Ochem fun (or as fun as it can be). Her exams are harder than expected, but I still stan a queen. I really think if she'd release practice exams (IMO theres not enough resources :/ ) she'd be more liked. still recommend tho

I LOVED Claire and I'm really sad that I won't have her for 118b. She is one of the best professors I've ever had and doesn't deserve the hateful comments. It's a hard subject but she made it fun. The class itself is really hard- it's ochem!!- but Claire is incredibly dedicated and helpful. She's hilarious and really cares about her students!

Claire is a wonderful professor! Really cares about her students are her lectures are hilarious and engaging! But let's be real- this class is the hardest at Davis. Not her fault that the material is so complicated. Her tests are TOUGH but she really wants everyone to succeed. Would was be better if she gave practice tests/more practice problems

I think she's an amazing lecturer; she recorders her lectures and likes to give only necessary details. She also focuses on the application of her concepts and WHY things are true. VERY clear with what is expected to know for the test. Doesn't give too many resources, yet you can find those (i.e. practice exams/worksheets) from the chem-specialist!

Claire does an exceptional job of explaining concepts with many examples to the point where you feel proud of yourself for knowing such complicated material. That is, until the midterms and final tell you how little you actually know. Still, Claire's passion and humor made the class an extremely difficult yet surprisingly joyous experience.

Honestly a cool professor that gets too much hate from students' lack of responsibility. She offers a lot of resources, is approachable, and answers questions readily available through piazza. She tries to learn everyone's name, aims to make her tests where at least one person can receive 100%, and doesn't believe in 40% averages. Great professor!

Claire was so enthusiastic about teaching (thank you!) and while the material was hard as hell, she made it bearable. She also made me really get interested in organic! (thanks again!) First midterm was fair, but second felt a tad too long in terms of questions on it. Do her practice problems, discussion sheets, seek help, and you should be ok.

I'm not good at chemistry and I dreaded this class, but Claire made me enjoy going to class, and her enthusiasm really brightened my attitude toward ochem. She is genuine, caring, and responsive to students. Her exams brought me down, but her "easy" points (reading questions, POW, quizzes) helped me understand the concepts much better. Solid choice

This is a hard class that requires you to put in a lot of time, but you can get an a if you put in the effort. I enjoyed going to class and felt like she cared about my success.

Dr. Filloux is a great choice. She's always enthusiastic and more than generous with filler points for your grade. Clicker EC, Take home Quizzes with 2 tries, and Pre-lecture reading questions that guide your understanding. However, if you cannot self-study than you won't do well, as her lectures sometimes fall short. Use outside/provided sources.

Dr. Filloux was great! Read the supplemental textbook material, do the practice problem worksheets, and have a reliable study group. Don't understand the sentiment of her being an egregious teacher -- thought she did her part, and I did mine. As long as you do that, you'll be fine!

Dr. Filloux is extremely passionate about the subject and makes lecture very enjoyable through her attitude and humor. The lectures are well organized and she does an excellent job of explaining the material. Little homework, but keep practicing the material through her provided resources if you want an A. Wish I could have her for CHE 118B too!!

Professor Filloux is very organized and provides tons of resources to help students succeed. While there is no homework, her practice problems are very helpful and so are the discussion sheets. Her tests are fair, the multiple choice section is straightforward, but the short answer can be more difficult.

People who are rating her badly were probably going to do poorly on organic no matter what professor they had. I think Claire is the best and most fair professor I have ever had. She does not curve, however, there are many points she makes available for earning. Would definitely take her again if I could.

Really good at lecturing and seems to care about the students. I also happened to have her as a substitute in another class that I took the next quarter and was genuinely happy about it.

Claire is an amazing professor. She explained mechanisms and other concepts in great detail, including visuals which was super helpful. She asked us what she could do better to help us and after the break she actually made an effort to implement our ideas. Her tests were straight from her lectures, and helpful mini "quizzes" before each lecture.

Dr. Filloux's lecture is good. She explains the logic of organic experiments very well, and she is responsive to questions. She does not give a curve, and a large percent of grade depends on lab reports.

She is arguably one of the best professors Davis has to offer. Ochem is a really really difficult subject but she presents things in a very clear way and offers little to no surprises on the exams. Offers frequent online "quizzes" that keep you on track and strengthen your understanding. Her passion for the subject comes through during lecture.
