Attendance isn't mandatory to pass the class but you'll want to go because it's very enjoyable. Claire is a great teacher, intelligent, personable and knowledgeable.
Normally I wouldn't have rated a professor in a subject like this. I have to rate Claire though because she took a class I whole heartedly thought would suck, and between the class discussion, and the unusual mix of characters we had in class made it one of the most interesting subjects I've taken so far in college.
Great teacher. She makes class very interesting and she made it turn out to be one of my favorite classes. I would definitely reccomend taking Claire :D
I thought Claire was a great teacher. The class was discussion based and our class was boring because no one spoke up. Attendance is not required but if you don't go everyday you will miss a question on the test.
I took my humanities class from Claire at the beginning of 2010. As indicated in my scoring, I had almost no interest in this subject. Claire made it interesting and challenged us to think outside of our box. Skills that I will be able to use for the rest of my life. :)
This class was a joke. It was not at all a humanities class. There was only one section of the class where we discussed how to analyze art. Other than that, the class was entirely made up of Claire's own opinion and agenda, usually on subjects where she wanted to express her political views. She was disorganized and it was a painful, horrible class
I took this class online. Claire is pretty clear on what she expects of her students. There is a lot of reading and you have to watch videos that she posts for each topic. There are journals, discussions, and a test for each topic. Overall, it was a pretty easy class if you do the assignments.
I did not like this class one bit. I took it online and it was a big mistake. There are a lot of videos, discussions, and tons of reading to do. It seemed like the class got harder as the semester went on.
Claire was an amazing teacher! She is very interesting but her class is a lot of work. You have to keep up with your reading and you have to be highly opinionated!
This class was a nightmare! She is disorganized, and it's really hard to understand what she wants. I took this class online and it was just useless busy work. Also, she takes forever getting back to you and her opinion is what defines your grades, not the criteria that she gives. I do not recommend this class at all.
great professor and class your realy have to take this class in person to really get the full educational experience, students are expected to be involved in the discussion which i realy liked, and it was a great platform for sharing ideas and expressing your self. it does involve critical thinking so if thats not your thing, dont take it
She's amazing! Very intelligent and makes you think! If take it again in a heartbeat. Cute Irish accent!
The class was well organized. There is TONS of writing but she's always there to help you when you need it.
If you are smart don't take her class online. You can not understand her, and she grade you by her own opinion she is one of those teacher who like you to buy new book and if you use something from a old book or online she give you a bad mark love to sale book for the book companies
unreasonably difficult
I don't know if I can even describe how awful this class was. I literally spent more time on this one class than my four others combined. DO NOT take this class from her. AWFUL TEACHER. WAY to many assignments, grades VERY Strictly. Save yourself the time, money and frustration. Take it from someone else.
Seriously, she is the worst online teacher I have come across yet! She bases her grading off of her own opinion. I have spoke with several other students in my current class that feel the same. More time spent on this one class than my other 3 combined. She doesn't update her syllabus or announcements from previous classes. Avoid this she-devil!
Oh my heck - where to begin. Claire is awful! Her grading is ridiculous and when you ask her about your score she ignores you. I got minus 5 points for incorrect spelling on something. Such a joke! I wouldn't recommend her if she was the last teacher on earth.
Her class was awesome. There is lots of discussions and debates which add to the class experience. Participation is big. Lots of going out and experiencing things to write about. LOTS OF WRITING. But if you want to pass, relate all your experiences to topics covered in class, she likes that.
Claire is an excellent teacher. I think the bad reviews come from students who want to skate through a gen ed class. She expects 4 things: that you attend class, you read the assignments, you discuss them intelligently, and you write critically and coherently. It's called college.
She was awesome! She's nice, engaging, and makes difficult material easier to understand. Loved her!
Teacher is great. If your like me and like to get grades back in a timely manner I would not suggest taking her. Takes anywhere from 1-3 weeks to get 1 of 4 assignments back. Doesn't give much feedback other than what was wrong with your answers.
Not a friendly person to deal with. " do not be late! It is what it is." Takes a long time to grade assignments.
Lots of assignments which include a lot of reading. If you live a busy life or your taking other classes I wouldn't recommend this course. Takes a long time to get grades back and only feedback it what you did wrong in an assignment.
She was not good at getting back on questions. A lot of her websites we were directed to had broken links. The due dates on assignments were for different quarters - not ours. Topics were not given the same amount of time but required the same amount of work. It was hard to establish expectations.
When you do the homework online you are supposed to cite the course text, I did for every assignment and she either doesn't really read what you write or really just doesn't like your opinions. She would always tell me I didn't cite them, but they were right there. Make sure she gets it that you did cite it. She isn't the best, good luck.
If you are looking for an easy class, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! That was my biggest mistake. Take English 1050 instead! It has the HU, and DV credits, whereas this class only has the HU credit. This class was the hardest class I have taken BY FAR! Way too busy. Tests are extremely difficult due to the ENORMOUS amount of material covered for each test
it does not matter how good your responses are if you dont make the exact 100 word count she'll dock you points, she doesn't explain her assignments that well and expects you to understand it. She things she is clear but leaves you very confused.. If you are a new student who needs a humanities credit, DO NOT TA KE THIS CLASS.
She was good. Didn't get back grades as quickly as I liked but once you figured out what she wanted and the modules it became an easy a.
While this is not what i would consider an easy class, she is very clear on her assignments that she gives, and the material is presented in a very interesting and engaging way. There is reading assigned for every class, but it's not that much, and if you come in prepared and read, then you will love it. STAY ON TOP OF READING, and you'll be fine.
omg. this girl is queen. best teacher i have ever had. easily. talked me off the ledge.
Prof. gives great feedback. Assignments require you to think about concepts, not just memorize names and dates. Really great lectures and additional videos/documentaries. I enjoyed the organization of topics. Beautiful and well written textbook. Great class to give you an overview of world history and the humanities. Plus, she has a fun accent. ;)
This teacher is awesome. Certainly there for you to answer any questions. super easy to communicate with online. loved her class and learned a lot.
I think she gives the best feedback I have ever gotten out of a class. She is honest/fair and will tell you what would make your assignment better. She explains why you got a lower score instead of the old "this is what you get because i say so" mentality you get so often.
I really enjoyed this class. The lectures are engaging and Claire is an amazing teacher. Be prepared to wait a while to get grades back, but she responds quickly and kindly to emails and concerns. A lot of reading, writing, and participation is involved, but it's not difficult. The class is well structured and her expectations are clear.
This PROFESSOR IS THE QUEEN of HUMANITIES!!!! SHE IS EPIC!!!! She is so very down to earth. She cares about her students and she is genuine TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
The teacher is fine. The class is pretty redundant as far as discussions are concerned. Whoever takes this class either needs the easy credit or care way too much about useless topics and like to start an argument online. Hardly cracked the book and got an A. She'll ask you to reference things out of the book but the information is easy to find.
Best teacher I've had so far. Easy to get an A, as long as you're willing to do ALL assignments and attend classes. She responds to emails in timely and friendly manner. Has a cute accent :)
I found her class to be very easy to follow and loved it because it wasn't so over powering with homework and she made sure to have spring break somewhere logged in where I haven't had with previous teachers. I also never purchased the book and it was hardly ever used and you can definitely get away with not buying it. She awesome and GOOD LUCK!!!!
She's nice and fun, but her lectures can be kind of boring. This could be because I didn't enjoy the subject, but I felt she lacked asking good questions that involved the class more. She will take up the entire class time and go over on time quite a bit, that's annoying if you have another class after.
Professor Peterson was one of the most caring and genuine professors I've had in my college career AND I took her class online. She is enthusiastic about the subject and very communicative with students and responses. If you do the work, the class is entertaining and educational. I highly recommend her and would take her class again if I could.
I took her online humanities class. She is very enthusiastic about the subject. She includes a great variety of things to learn in the course and makes it interesting and fun. I would recommend her as a teacher. She is very understanding and is willing to work with you.
Claire is fantastic and very flexible and understanding if you are willing to communicate with her. She doesn't have unworldly expectations, but she does want you to attend her lectures, participate, and keep an open mind. There are several reading assignments each week and frequent simple assignments to coincide with each section.
Peterson was awesome. Class wasn't hard at all, you will need the book, and keep up on assignments. She takes role every class. I don't think she graded off of role, but attendance was important to learn more detail. She gives great feedback and always is clear on what she is looking for. Discussions were my favorite, very interesting.
Nothing has been graded since the beginning of February. Absolutely no contact with Claire throughout the semester other than the announcements that have been set up prior to class beginning.
Great teacher thats easy to follow and understand, one who can make to think differently! Just make sure you get your assignments in on time.
Professor Peterson is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the humanities. When I asked for help outside of class she was very generous wit her time. I found myself reading more than was asked because it peaked my interest outside of the required readings.
She's very laid back, mostly a lecture class but they're not boring. She's a big youtube fan which makes things a lot more interesting. She does expect you to read the textbook but I never did and easily got away with it. However, you still need to buy it to cite things. She has very few, easy homework assignments so it's important that you do them.
Claire is a fantastic professor. Her class is mostly lecture with tons of videos and class discussions. Light homework but its gotta be in on time and the reading helps but most people can get away without it. Loads of extra credit opportunities outside of class. Grading isnt her strong spot so expect to wait a bit on that. Oh and shes Irish :D
Professor Peterson is so great at teaching, when discussing a topic she makes it so interesting and fun, her way of talking is really cute, I love it! I would take one of her classes again.
Don't think twice... SIGN UP FOR HER CLASSES! You won't regret it. She's very passionate about humanities and wants her students to succeed inside and OUTSIDE the classroom. Average amount of homework. Reading makes the class better, but not mandatory. She uses all sorts of mediums to teach... and she has the coolest accent... GO GO GO SIGN UP!
She is so awesome! You do need the book and there is a lot of reading but the assignments are super simple! She is very helpful and a fun teacher! The only downside is she doesnt grade much until the end but as long as you did the assignments, read and pay attention in class its an easy A.
I LOVE Claire!! She's sweet and funny. She made the class discussions really interesting and engaging. She had a way of guiding tough conversations in a calm and respectful way. There are only a handful of assignments, and you do need the textbook to reference in the assignments. But there were no tests and no final. Loved this class.
This class was alright, it never really made me care more about the subject. Prof doesn't entirely follow through on announcements. She said there was going to be updated module lessons, half weren't done, and the other half were posted right before due dates. Not a fast grader, but she is a fair grader and class isn't too hard.
Awesome professor! Some of her class was not matching with the textbook pages but all were in the book. You do use the book for tests and reading but she doesnt make you read the entire book which is awesome! Answers emails promptly. You have a journal discussion and quiz a week. Not hard as long as you do the work!
I really enjoyed the course. Professor Peterson Is smart and good at teaching. Seriously a good environment all around.
I completely adore Claire. She is passionate about Humanities, which makes class and the lectures more interesting. She's funny and caring. I wouldn't take anyone else for this course!
I really enjoyed Claires class. Shes such a wonderful professor who cares about all her student. She is also a very easy grader. Just do the online journals and youll get an A. Im definitely recommending her to all my friends.
I really loved this class and it was a good opportunity to develop critical thinking skills. Not a lot of homework. 1 group civic engagement project due at the end of the semester. Very passionate and thought-provoking teacher.
No complaints, I liked that she mixes it up with project mediums. Videos, sketches, visiting churches, a nice change of pace from writing a 10 page paper on a topic I completely brain dump after the references are done.
I took this class online and Professor Peterson did a good job with checking in with her students. I really enjoyed some of the assignments and I learned a lot. She grades relatively quickly and gives good feedback.
I absolutely loved having Claire as a professor. What I like about her classes was that shes super into it herself and you cant tell shes passionate about the subject which made it really interesting. The workload is pretty light as well. Shes very caring. Im recommending her to all my friends!
The teacher was missing in action towards the end of the semester. She was taking forever to grade assignments and in the beginning she was sending out videos to talk about each chapter and then she stopped. If she disagrees with your opinion you get docked points for it. Be sure to cite all assignments - this is a must for her.
There are 10 journals where you write about 1 page answering a few questions. Make sure to cite at least once source in each. There is also a quiz and discussion to go along with each journal. The journals are somewhat easy, I used most of info from the modules, however they were more annoying and time consuming than anything. Pretty easy class
There is a required textbook that I almost never used except to slip in a cited source. I would just add a page number to get credit in the journals. The quizzes are short and easy. The discussions are also easy, just answer a few questions and reply to one person. The journals were ok, just tedious to write, but I never wrote more than 1-2 pages
I really liked Claire as a professor! If you keep up on the homework and show up to class it is an easy A. Hardly an homework and they take 2 seconds. If you miss class you may miss a chunk of participation points you can't make up.
Claire is an awesome human being & the best professor I have ever had! I plan to take more classes from her in the future! Do the interesting readings & GO TO CLASS you won't regret it - it is completely discussion & is so much fun! I was excited to go to class & I never missed a day! I would take this class again in a heart beat! It is amazing!
Claire is a great professor. Her lectures are also very interesting. We did not have a lot of homework, only 5 journals. Even though attendance is not mandatory, I would recommend going because there are some group assessments that are only done in class and she also gives you participation points.
I took international 2400- the immigrant experience through literature and film. The class is more discussion, watch movies, do a few short readings, and a few guest speakers. This class and professor have been some of my favorites. Claire is very passionate about what she teaches and is very flexible with you. I recommend any class of hers!
Claire is an awesome professor! Her lectures are super interesting, informative & engaging! This is more of discussion based class. I learned so much in class that I can use in life. The assignments are simple and straight forward. Show up to class and you won't regret it! This is the second class that I have taken from Claire!
BEST PROFESSOR! Claire is so caring and passionate about humanities and the students. Her lectures are amazing, she is funny too! Her accent is so cute and entertaining. She has very easy discussions and a group project.
Said on the first day she was going to try to keep conversations as objective as possible, and I thought that was awesome and had a lot of respect for that. Butttt that never happened, in class discussions ALWAYS got political and religious and leaned one way. Boring and political, not one objective discussion was had.
I love Claire she is so cool. The book is a tad expensive but you actually use it so it's more worth it. Claire is just so much fun and you learn a lot out of her class. I want to find another class she teaches because I had so much fun in this class.
ALWAYS late to class. Said she wanted everyone to keep an open mind during discussions but she couldn't do that herself. Things always got political. Would meet you with resistance in both grading of assignments and discussions if you didn't agree with her political views. Super easy class, just pretend to be super "woke" and you should be fine.
Claire is very sweet and my favorite teacher so far. She is very bubbly person and I love her. The class was very easy to understand. And easy to pass. Beside that the only problem I have with her teaching is that it could use more involvement with the class and doesn't pressure you to participate. This lead me to falling asleep in class.
Claire is very experienced and has a great ability to connect with her students. She wants to see everyone succeed and will cheer you along the way. The class is very discussion based, so be prepared for that and don't miss. She encourages students to take a day off every now and then to refresh, and is understanding of all circumstances.
I love Claire! She is so sweet and funny. She really cares about her students. Only thing is the book is a bit expensive because it co written by her. Such a fun class.
If you go against her opinion you get heavily docked on the assignments and the discussions. Says she is super open minded but she is not at all and everything went towards politics. So if you want to get an A in this class keep your opinions to yourself and you should be just fine.
Claire was a great professor to have especially in the middle of a pandemic. She gave a lot of grace and wanted to see each of her students succeed. I have taken a humanities class in the past and did not pass, but Claire made it to where I was able to connect and earn an A with success!
Claire is a great teacher that knows a lot in her field. She gave me helpful feedback and interesting material during the semester! Highly recommend her to anyone taking a humanities course.
I think this class gives just the amount of work, the main thing is just reading. But she is super understanding and I really like how she grades.
Professor Peterson is great. The only thing is she takes a couple of months to grade your work which can be frustrating at times. You have to read a lot to submit your weekly journal but if you answer the journal questions and cite your work, you will pass.
Previous reviews criticized the Prof. for penalizing the wrong views. I made sure to write with a liberal viewpoint and had no issues. She was slow to grade which was frustrating. The course was over before a quarter of work was graded. She seemed kind of checked out but it is summer and online. She's an easy grader and the assignments were easy.
She responds right away within office hours. It takes her pretty long to grade, but she cut me slack on repeated mistakes as a result. Fair bit of writing. I disagree that she grades on viewpoint. You just have to be able to show your reasoning. I was frank about disagreeing w/ her on certain points; she docked no points and I received an A.
Claire's class was incredible. We talked about some heavy subjects and she introduced us to each with care and astounding knowledge. There is one group project, but my class's went really well and it was actually fun to participate in. I'm leaving the class feeling more informed and empowered.
This was one of my favorite courses and it's all thanks to Claire! Make sure to engage in the lectures for a better experience and don't be afraid to ask questions.
