Ms Adams is new to cpcc. I had her for chemistry 151 and I thought she was great. She always introduces the labs and explains anything you have questions about. She also gives reviews before the tests. She does make you work for the grade (No take home tests, no open note tests etc) but its not crazy hard. She is very nice and a great teacher.
Don't take this class with her.
She was the worst teacher I ever met; can't manage class time at all specially at the exam days; students barely have time to finish their exams.
Really, really the worst chemistry teacher ever.
She is the worst teacher ever. I took her class just to get a passing grade, but it seems it's impossible with her way of teaching and with the hard exams that she gives. Don't Take her class!!
Dr. Clara is the worst lecturer I ever had. I recommend you take chemistry from a different lecturer if you want to pass. Her exams are ridiculously hard as students are scoring low grades . Do not take her class.
Dr. Clara is the worst lecturer in Cpcc. She doesn't care about her students. I could not believe she can turn results without letting her students know their scores. Stay away from class. The worst mistake I ever made is taking her class.
Nice teacher, defenitly I will take her again.
I have had her for both CHM 151 and 152, and would take her for every chemistry class for the rest of my life if I could. You do have to focus on her lectures the whole time and the test are the same difficulty as the OWL homework. Out of the other Chem teachers I have tried out, she is the only one who I can completely understand Chemistry with.
She knows her stuff. The class is hard. The tests are harder. Very little extra credit. She gives good worksheets and homework assignments but if you don't work the material then you'll fall behind. I recommend taking notes before class so you can write down notes from the lecture. It is a challenging course but not impossible. Good luck.
Adam's is awful, she doesn't do a good job managing the time in the class. Steer clear if you want to pass. Class average was 50-60% on tests.
I can't pay attention to her as much as I try. I have to tune her out and read the book. We get an hour and a half to finish test when we have lots of formulas to write and rewrite as part of "showing all your work" and she says that she can do each question in 5 min, WELL OF COURSE SHE CAN, SHE HAS BEEN DOING THIS HER WHOLE CAREER!!
Her tests are the majority of the class. They're super specific and you have to REALLY know the subject well. However, she has a nice personality and gives a bit of extra credit for every exam (though this is mostly useless if you don't know the material). Also, she is a Dr. and explains thing at the doctorate level (really bad at dumbing it down)
Gives you everything you need to get the grade you want. Many worksheets are given to practice the work. She works very fast. Focus in lecture or you'll fall behind very easily. She's willing to help if you ask. A couple of extra credit opportunities. Take this class if you know how to pace yourself. Don't take it if you aren't willing to study.
She cares about her student but she doesn't know how to break down her lecture so her student can understand what she's trying to explain, it's very confusing and frustrating. So basically she knows her stuff; she's just horrible at teaching it.
Her tests are heavy! She doesn't give enough time on exam day. she just doesn't care about students. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take her. You work so much for less grades.
CHM is already a given to be difficult, but this instructor is AWESOME in the field of simplifying. Lots of resources are given such as power points, handouts, and free tutoring which is conveniently given around my schedule. I love this class. BEST YET. I'm taking her again this semester. I want to learn chemistry b4 I go to a university.
Attend the class, and study the notes, you will pass. She simplifies the material very well. CHM is tough, but she makes it easier to learn. She is open to help. Very eager to teach. Do Homework. Study and you will get an A. Concepts are a huge part of passing her class. Problems are simple, formula given on test compared to other collegse
you have to study, but the lecture is very informative. Concepts are very important. If you do the homework and pay total attention to her lectures, you should pass. It's chemistry, so it is already tough, but I would not pick another teacher to learn this subject. If your major is science, she is very thorough.
She's very patient and does well at breaking things down until you understand the concept. Tests are hard and weekly pre-lab quizzes don't help your grade if you don't understand the concept walking into lab that day.
Worst teacher I've had at CPCC!!! Class test averages were 40-60%. She confuses herself while lecturing and doesn't really answer students questions. She gave extra credit that was around 20 questions and took students up to 3 days to complete, for only 5 points added to a test... I should have looked her up on here before taking her class..
This teacher is by far the worst, do not take her... lecture does not make ANY SENSE and neither do her notes I should have listened to the reviews please do not take her I promise you'll only want to drop the class.
Great teacher. Chemistry is hard. YOU HAVE TO STUDY. Mrs. Adams gives opportunities for extra credit. She really loves chemistry and cares for her students. She gives lots of opportunities to come and ask questions. Her lectures are VERY detailed !! Tests are easier when you study.
great teacher but hard subject. One of the only chemistry teachers I have had at CPCC that actually cares about the students. Still chemistry is hard so you will have to bust your ass. Its not that its hard its just a lot of studying. all of it pretty straight forward.
Loved her! This class contains a lot of homework and lots of math.
Dr. Adams was a great teacher!! You definitely have to work hard in her class and study a lot for her exams, but if you put the work in you will do well. The tests are straight forward. She gives practice exams before every test so if you really take the time to study what is on the practice exams you should be ready for the tests.
Dr. Adams was wonderful, but the course she teaches is a challenging one. Take advantage of the extra credit and especially the practice exams, they are incredibly helpful. She works hard and works with her students, but the class is very hard, so be prepared for work. The teacher is great though, and a perfect fit for the subject in my opinion.
she is really good but extremely tough with grading! you have to do all the quizzes on Cengage to only receive 3%!!!!!!! ridiculous
Her tests are very hard, have lot of OWL work, and the quizzes that she give for extra credits are also hard. Her lectures are very fast. She covers one to two units ahead the given dates that she has provided. Also does not spend enough time to practice or explain any concept.
She had very enjoyable lectures for the topic. It's not an easy subject especially since it's a lot of material for one semester. There is a ton of OWL homework that should be taken care of ASAP. Towards the end of the semester there is one big assignment that takes forever and cannot be pushed aside till the last minute. Be on top of this class.
do not take this class! she teaches with printed out notes and writes it on the board word for word(im pretty sure). then erases it and does it again.. she should use Powerpoints. Very fast paced. Owl homework isn't too bad. Practice test have like 50 questions and tests are around 20 questions. This will probably be my first "c"
Taking her class was one of the worst mistake I make during this semester.. class tests average was 40% - 45% ... she doesnt care
Chemistry was awful and caused me psychological scars from how stressful that year of my life was. This is not Dr. Adams fault. She is a wonderful professor who really knows her stuff and I admire that about her. Shes a very caring individual. Chemistry is just a very difficult subject matter and doesnt click for a lot of people (me included)
Was this the hardest class Ive ever taken in my life?: Yes Am I in pain anytime I think of chemistry?: yes Is this Dr. Adams fault?: no, shes a wonderful person and tries to explain things the best she can but chemistry is not easy and you arent just going to get it. You have to work really hard in this class or just give up
This class was online, the final was worth 30% of your grade. The weekly assignments did not adequately prepare you for the tests. The class averages were 50-60% on the tests. Unless Chemistry is a strong subject for you, I do not recommend taking her class.
She is a very nice lady and is obviously very knowledgeable. She writes too much on the board and I found myself writing useless info quite a bit. Online homework takes forever but it worth a very large portion and doing it saved my grade. She is a savage test grader, expect test averages in the 50-70% range or lower. Avoid CHM152 at all costs.
Dr. Adams lectures are overwhelming fast paced & wordy. She has a powerpoint on the board and then rewrites the info on a white board. Everyone says shes nice but being nice means nothing when your grade isnt where it should be. If you want to pass her class, READ the book & watch videos. Her teaching alone is the biggest way to fail.
One of the least compassionate professors I ever had before. She is not understanding and doesn't care what your excuse is; she will fail you.
i don't like her. she is really a tough grader. whoever takes her class, beware!
God, I cannot begin to describe how hard this class is. I was one of the lucky students to take this during the semester of the COVID-19 outbreak. I feel like I would look down from the board to write something down and she would have already moved on to an entirely new topic. Also, exam averages are always around the mid-70s. Don't expect more.
shes a really mean teacher. makes me feel like she dont care bout nuthing. she sucks!!!!!!!!!!
This class was by far the most difficult and Dr. Adams did not make it much easier. She would write on a white board and have a powerpoint on simultaneously. She wrote her notes super fast and theyd be erased in a second. To pass this class, you need a group of peers who are just as dedicated to studying. Youtube taught me more than Dr. Adams.
She grades everything so harshly. I can't even learn properly in her class. It's like she's a machine that just writes, writes, and writes...
This was the hardest and worst class I have ever taken. She isnt helpful either. She always send back snarky comments. I dont know if its on purpose or not...
Don't take this professor. Choose someone else.
Do NOT take this class with her. She always came off as rude and didn't care if there were misunderstandings. If you didn't understand an assignment or missed one, good luck.
Do not take her class! Comes across rude, lectures you anytime you try to communicate with her, requires work to be turned in 2 days soon than all other professors at the college (Friday vs Sunday) and don't even think about asking for an extension, even by 8 hours. Never had an issue with a class prior to her!
She's very intelligent but acts as if she has a chip on her shoulder. The volume of busy work is absolutely ridiculous. I should have read these reviews prior to enrolling in her class.
Dr. Adams was able to do something no professor has been able to do - she made me enjoy Chemistry. Her thorough explanations helped me to not just understand it to pass, but to understand it to apply it in future courses. She does grade hard and is strict, but it is well worth it if you plan to expand into courses that require chemistry.
ive personally never hated chemistry till i took this class. i knew it wouldnt be that fun but dr. adams made it horrible. i still have my final left to take but this class isnt one i would recommend to anyone especially online.
ive never disliked science until i took her course. she is not available by email, and if you need help the day of, she wont be back to you for 24 hours at least. no lectures, no class calls, grades hard. If i can give anyone advice choose someone else. i worked so hard in that class, to receive a D.
Dr. Adams' class had a ridiculous amount of coursework. Her lectures did not help very much and when I tried to reach out she made me feel stupid. Without getting taught properly it made me struggle on homework assignments and all the other busy work. Tests were even worse. I have always done fine with chemistry but her class ruined me.
Absolutely avoid this Professor. This professor does not like to answer questions often getting annoyed by them and ignores the student. She demands respect yet she gives none. Overall just a teacher with 0 passion.
You are better off enrolling in a different college to take this course instead of doing it here with Dr. Adams. This course moves so fast my tutors couldnt event keep up with it. Any time you try to reach out for help, you get very little or no response. In fact, this course itself made me decide to leave this college and go to a different state.
No, just no
Dr. Adams is kind and well educated. If you study you will pass. Simple. She offers live lectures twice a week for her online students. Seems to me the other comments were looking for easy A's instead of earned C's and ended up with strong F's. As a post grad - level student Dr. Adams is as good as it gets.
honestly has no passion to see students do well in her course. the whole class would fail exams repeatedly and instead of reviewing she would keep on while nobody understands. she also takes 24-48 hours to reply and you most likely will have to email her twice. one of the worst professors i have ever had in my college experience. if you can avoid!
absolutely the worst professor at cpcc. she should reconsider her career path as there is no passion.
The lecture videos were not convenient as they would cover everything for the homework that would be due that week. The study guides were not useful and stressed me out even more. I mostly self studied and used cengage because she doesn't make her own tests.. I had last minute questions and emailed her twice yet she didn't respond... (stressful af)
Never once answered any of emails even after emailed multiple times . Her lecture videos were not helpful at all, never helped her students in the labs, she didn't help to make sure we were doing it correctly. She is very inconsiderate of others time and didn't let me make up a lab when I had document proof that I had COVID.
Lecture material is provided after assignments/labs/quizzes are due. Only time that you have all the material you need to be successful is on exams, which have short time limits. Do not ask her about why material is provided post due date because she will straight up lie/deny. Class averages on ALL exams were between 20-40 and she did not curve.
Professor Adams, had extremely long lectures that were not helpful. The only way to do good in the class is to do good on the test, which was very hard to do, when class averages were anywhere from 30-50% on each test. The only thing that helped me get an A was the extra credit (DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!) and scoring well on all the test.
Professor Adams is extremely rude. She doesn't let you have any off days.
Never again avoid like the plague
ONLINE OR IN PERSON SHE IS HORRIBLE AND WILL MAKE YOU REGRET ALL LIFE DECISIONS. WORDS CAN NOT EVEN EXPRESS HOW BAD THIS CHM 152 IS WITH HER. SAVE YOURSELF WHILE YOU CAN AND LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS.
If reviews and teacher evaluations actually anything.. DR. ADAMS would honestly be jobless. She does not care about you in any way, has no respect for you whatsoever, and makes getting a simple A impossible. Online or in-person, beware because the dog will bite
I understand that chemistry is a hard subject, but this lady makes it even harder. Study guides for her tests are vague and do not help at all. Please take all of these ratings into consideration and drop her class if you have her. Your life will be less stressful
This course is by far the worst course I've ever taken made difficult due to the professor and lack of teaching clearly. I got an A in Chem 151 and in this course I'm barely scraping by with a C. In meetings she is condescending and blames my lack of work ethic and time management. Even after stating I work 4-5 hours a day on work for this class.
This professor and her teaching methods made this class harder then it needed to be. The lecture exams are extremely difficult and weighs heavily on your grade. She is not helpful when you go to speak to her about your grade, just says you should try harder. Highly recommend finding a different professor for CHM152 and drop her ASAP.
Take the reviews seriously. I decided to take it despite the reviews. Study guides are nothing like the test (usually just definition, chem is more than vocab). When seeking help and changes she questioned our studying and work ethic. Despite studying with classmates for 5hrs daily.
You basically have to teach yourself everything her lectures are not well explained. Besides teaching yourself you will still find concepts on the exam THAT WERE NOT TOUGHT. The only good thing I will give her credit for is that there is extra credit.
I took this course online,I highly recommend NOT. If you have the time to do 2 test 2 labs 3 quizzes and 6 homework assignments a week all while trying to learn the material from 3 hour long lectures everyday. Then maybe this is the class for you. This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken 0/10 don't recommend.
THIS WAS AWFUL! Be prepared to have a crap ton of homework assignments, 2 lab assignments a week (with a pre-lab, lab report, and post-lab), 2 tests every 2 weeks, 3 hours of unhelpful lectures, and hours of teaching yourself. She made the course much harder than it needed to be. Take it anywhere else if possible. I do not recommend this course.
Her lectures and homework don't match the unit tests at all. The study guides she gives out are also useless. I followed it for the first unit test, did all the homework and extra credit, watched the 4hr lecture videos, and took notes and got a 46. Unit tests are 40% of your grade 10% each with the final exam being 20% of your grade.
She knows what she's yappin' about. 10/10 take this class man.
It is worthwhile to note that she asks you either watch her lecture videos or read the textbook on your own so we could do practice problems in class, you will fall behind if you don't or cannot. If that's not how you learn I'd avoid. Other than that, Dr. Adams was a good lecturer. I think if you are really serious about chemistry, take this class.
She is really nice and her lectures are great, but she assigns a ridiculous amount of work each week (1 prelab, 1 post lab report, 10+ sections of homework with 1-3 questions each, problems to complete outside of class). Her tests have lots of trick questions and the study material doesn't help much. Great person, terrible class. Expect 11 exams.
I am appalled by this inconsiderate professor and the way she sets her students up for failure. I take my grades seriously. I spent countless hours and entire nights studying for exams barely resembling the material used to teach this course. I may not be the smartest student but I work hard and I will forever attribute my first B to Clara Adams.
Please do not take this course. There is a disconnect between the material distributed to the students and the material that is on the exams. Dr Adams shared the test averages after every unit exam and almost all of them were around 60%. I take my grades seriously. After 2 years of being a 4.0 student, this class handed me my first B.
She's a nice person, but not a great teacher. Be prepared to watch 2+ hour long lecture videos in your free time, if you don't watch the videos, you WILL fall behind. The course is insanely test heavy, almost one lecture every two weeks. Heed my warning, do NOT take this class with this professor.
Dr. Adams is great. I wouldn't watch the lecture video, don't study reviews but do them for grades, for test study the example problems/practice tutor problems religiously from HMW, do study the PSLO reviews, lab explanation are confusing, Lab exams are worth less than the homework, Dr. Adams will help you if you're trying and not in summer school.
Pros: can earn 5 bonus points and your worst lecture exam gets dropped Cons: seems like she doesn't understand her own material, often makes common math errors, terrible grader. Exams include questions without enough information. Do not take her class
My experience with Professor Adams in CHM-152 was exceptionally poor. My grade was based on five exams, a method that failed to accurately measure my knowledge or effort. As a result, I received an unjust D, endangering my graduation plans. This is inconsistent with my academic record and reflects a flawed and unfair grading approach.
You will not know your current grade in the class until the end of the semester. Tests were hardly related to the homework, reviews, and lectures. The reviews helped a little, but she makes her own tests that DO NOT resemble the resources she provides. She gives 5 points extra credit if you do the EC work and drop the lowest unit exam grade.
If you plan on failing chemistry this is the place for you. I hate her attractive self.
One major issue with her class is that the practice tests provided were not aligned with the actual exams. If maintaining a good GPA is important to you,l would advise against. taking any chemistry class with this professor.
Avoid at all costs. Teaches like it's a postgrad course not a community college course for working adults. Auto-graded assignments due Friday rather than Sunday. 48 hours to do the pre-lab quiz, lab, and post-lab quiz. Deducts lab points based on mood rather than by a rubric I dedicated hours a day but still had to withdraw and lose all my tuition
lecture videos are not useful. Extra credits are rare, review quizzes are uselessly heavy, actual test are different from it. Try your best to understand in class, especially when she solve the problems on the In-class worksheet. Tests look 85% like the in-class problem worksheet. She is strict, doesn't allow re-opening for any missed assignments.
She knows a lot about her field. However, her class is test heavy and the tests are barely like the reviews. She provides lecture videos but they are 1 and half hour long. There is a pre-lab and post-lab quiz, not hard but important to master them before lab tests. I would suggest taking her class only if you have a lot of time to study for it.
