Not a good teacher at all. He does knock 5 points off for every little thing and that crap does add up. How u gonna knock 5 points off for 1 missed question when there are like 20 questions and the whole assignment is worth 50 points it just doesn't add up right. I can't stand his teaching style cuz he seems like he doesn't know what he's talking about. I just end up teaching myself in this class. I will definately not take this teacher again, nor would i recommend him to anyone else.

Mr. Stokes announced on the first speach that he had been devorced 3 times. He has a Dr. in Phlosophy and wants to aid anyone who wants to know who God is. Scolasticly he does not know word well. He only taught for half the class period and then read.If anyone made a mistake he'd make fun of them. Did't want to answer questions; was unaproachable.

I nearly dropped out of school altogether because of this "professor". If I hadn't had others to compare him to, I would have. In my opinion, he's unpredictable, unprofessional, and appears to want students to fail. I got an A in his class, but it was only because I already knew the material. (Better than he did I think!) Therapy is helping.

his teaching method is painful and lacking in solid education theory. if he held himself to the same standard he holds his students, i could respect him. it's time he moved on to another profession. do not take a class from him or you'll be in for a bummer 8 weeks. he does give a thorough study guide for tests, but it has errors.

I am attending College for the first time at age 41. He is the worst teacher that I have ever had. He refuses to talk to you before, during or after class and he yells at you if you approach him. He hates students and everyone gets a bad grade on the homework assignments. Most of the people in the class have dropped out. He is awful!!!!!!!!

The comment on 11-06 the student must have been sleeping with him or on drugs.He is difficult to approach and I am afraid to ask question for when I do hes make me feel like a dummy. Or acts like you are disturbing him. He always makes excuses for his mistakes and really never answers you.He tries to be funny and is not.

This teacher is militant and proud of it. He looks over the top of his glasses when you ask a question, in a very condescending fashion and you feel small and stupid. It is not worth asking him anything, best to ask at the computer lab or the class assistant. Many dropped out, do not take this teacher.

Stokes isnt needed in class at all- His lectures all directly from the book, but if he makes a mistake along the way it is you that will have to fiqure out the correction even when he CAN'T. - Dont bother to ask questions in class he wont stop to answer them. Just rethe book and you will make it thru his class.

Changes formatting for homework and doesn?t tell you. 8 people left in the class and only one with a b-. I have spoken to 4.0 students that get all A?s say they got a c in his class. He can?t even finish the midterm in class. He did it wrong in the first place. Bad teacher. Talks about his therapy in class. Not cool.

Each class assignment he gives requires you to follow a list of confusing directions. He docks points easily; i was even docked a point for putting Assignment #2, instead of Assignment #3. I didn't have enough time to finish my final. Terrible teacher and it should be an EASY class, it's basic excel

This teacher is deliberately rude to students. The dean has spoken with him several times and he continues to be rude. He does not like to answer ?'s and when he does , makes you feel stupid for asking. Does not grade all work fair. And can't add corectly. I would not reccomend this teacher to anyone .

This teacher is a joke. All he does is make jokes that aren't funny and he loves to hear himself talk. The steps he shows take forever to explain and hard to understand. I wouldn't recommend him. His point system is wack! DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE!!!!

When you ask a question he isn't at all helpful; he wants you to figure it out for yourself but when you've done what the book said and it's still wrong and you ask him for help he has no interest in helping you find the issue. His lectures are long winded and unclear, because of the stupid little jokes he makes. DON'T TAKE THIS GUY; he's horrible.

This guy is just plain mean and enjoys seeing people squirm. First day him and the t.a. laughing about how frantic people were to get the lab done. I refused to ever raise my hand to ask him a question cause I would rip into him if he talked to me as rude as he did to others. Will never take another course he teaches! Be WARE!!

All I can say is DON'T DO IT! Unless you want a 2 unit class that's more like a 8 unit class. Passing will be more determined by how well you can understand his confusing instructions rather than your knowledge of the subject. He will never answer questions or clarify anything. Also, my friend took his Excel and she was in tears all the time!

Very unreasonable and unhelpful. His lectures are long and pointless. And you have to get homework straight from the book, and he is unwilling to help with that homework because he feels it is "unfair to the other students." I turned in a homework with very small errors and he gave me a 60%. I'm an A student and all I can say is DON'T DO IT.

If you HAVE TO take this course with this professor you need to be passed the Beginning stage. He offers no help to those who are not computer savvy. If you have a question you need to wait until you are not on "his time" and then you have to ask your peers. He treats every question you ask him like you're asking for a test answer. Not good!

directions are incoherent. doesnt provide templates needed to complete assingments. lacks tact. doesnt help with understanding the process focuses on what mistakes you can make when working excel than how to perform tasks correct inorder to not make mistakes. lectures make no sense he speaks in circles

HORRIBLE teacher. Is not clear with homework or labs. This is a 2 unit class that was treated like a 5 unit class. Not willing to answer any questions at all (gets offended). Opens up hw and labs and you are only given a certain time frame to do it. eg. Opens lab at 330pm has to be due that night by midnight, not helpful for someone that's busy.

I don't know how a professor like him can teach!!! he is terrible, rude and his tests are super long. I just took his final online and it took me 4.5 hours to complete. This is only a 2 unit class!!and he does not answer any questions, he makes you feel stupid if you ask.

Prof. Stokes is a TERRIBLE teacher. His class is easy, but only because of the book. He doesn't answer any questions and when you ask him for help he makes you seem stupid or tells you you're completely wrong and you need to restart. I DO NOT recommend taking him for any class.

The worst prof I have ever seen. I'm a straight-A student with knowledge of Excel, but this class is a req. Good thing I already knew how to do everything in the class- he not only failed to teach, he would make mistakes/get lost in lectures and confuse people even more. Worst online classprof ever. Most take an online class for flexibility. Not available here. HW takes 1-3 hours. You are given 1-2 assignments a day, with at most 24 hours to turn it in wo a penalty. If you ask for help, he says to read the book. I knew Excel already and could not keep up. Vague instructions, and HW late getting posted. AVOID!!!!!

I'm a straight A student, had almost all A's in his class and I still went to the dean to transfer halfway through the 8 week course. That's right, he's so unbearable that I dropped with only a month left and the mid-term under my belt with very good grades. Rude, doesn't communicate, doesn't know what he's doing as an online instructor.

Like everyone else said, he's horrible. He's rude and aggressive towards students. A lot of people in my class were learning English as a second (or third) language and were struggling with his instruction, and he constantly made them feel like idiots. He's unfair and unclear, and I'm saying that as an A student that can make do in nearly any class

This is one of the rudest professors I have had. In addition he selected the worst book possible to "teach" which is not what he does by the way. He does no work on his side to teach you anything. Just here is the book. And again, the book is awful. He gives unrealistic expectations to complete homework, and is very tough with grading.

Does not respond to emails, takes forever to grade so you cannot learn from past mistakes and correct them on future work. Instructions are poorly written and hard to understand.

The class itself is easy. He made no sense and his instructions were horrible. I was warned by three other students in three different classes the first day not to take him. They were Right! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!

Worst class Ive ever taken. Book is so confusing, not about the excel but about the problems it wants you to solve. He doesnt answer questions- tells you to figure it out. He takes off a lot of points for the smallest things, like not including a dollar sign. He grades assigments 2 weeks after theyre submitted. First hw we did, class avg was 45%.

This Professor is just awful I have never been this stressed about a class ever. The assignments start out easy and then become extremely difficult out of no where. When you ask for help he refers you to the book which does not help. Only time a class has brought me to tears so I am dropping this class.

I've honestly never felt so stupid taking a class before. When you approach him (via email in this case) he refers you to the book and does not help in any way. Most difficult 3 credits I have ever taken. Syllabus is 'advisory' only and is updated without notifying students, while students are held to the unknown syllabus requirements. Will not respond to emails unless you cc the dean. Do not take this instructor unless you have no other options.

HORRIBLE! I spent more time trying to figure out his directions and what the actual page numbers were for the assignments than actually doing the homework. Then when multiple students point out that there are errors and the wrong textbook is listed, he blames the students with "this is a college level class", and we need to pay attention.

Please if you can find someone else to take the class with. The instructions for the homework are unclear and confusing. I've never cried more than trying to figure out what was being asked of me because of how frustrating the instructions are. Typically I'm able to manage stress from classes, but I've never felt more stressed about a class.

Absolutely ZERO support from this professor. His only replies are snarky and less than 10 words AT MOST. He never provides explanation on the graded work, even when you beg for an explanation so you can understand which part of the formula was incorrect. He is NOT an educator, he does not want you to learn, he only wants you to know you screwed up.

Literally this professor gave me so many problems! He is basically unhelpful on purpose and is definitely not for student success. Our final exam prompt included phrases such as "Be prepared to encounter instructions that may be downright crazy" Now who says things like that?? Please avoid taking this class, I took this online and I barely got a B.

Unhelpful, rude. Takes points off for things that you didn't know were requirements. Assigns hours and hours of homework for a 2-unit online course. 8-week fast-track, and you don't get grades until 4 weeks in, which has unhelpful (unclear, nit-picky) feedback anyway. No teaching, no helping. Just work. Loves to say, "this is a college course."

Taking this class for transfer requirements. I'm Microsoft certified in this application. The instructions are so terribly written that I go over them 2 and 3 times, but still get harshly graded. Received a B. Rude and condescending teacher. Communication is purposefully bad. Tenure is the dumbest idea ever. Do not take a class with him.

Unclear directions given. Professor was stand offish and didn't offer guidance. You will have to learn on your own. Very strict and unforgiving. What should have been a fun class was just stressful and unrewarding.

This was supposed to be a 2-unit online course but it was the equivalent of a 5 unit course with little to no help from the instructor. If you don't have any experience in the topic, look for another professor to take this course with as he makes no additional efforts to help you succeed.

text book doesn't have any information about the course only 1 example the rest you figure it out, the professor has limited time for the exams and his question never covered in class ever, ask you to do something that you never know about before. lack of instructions and never follow his syllabus. I would never recommend this professor. Mistakes in his assignments that he claims are intentional, unclear instructions, no feedback until after final (he grades weeks after assignments are due). I would change schools before I'd take another one of his classes!

The textbook used for the class is not good. The professor says his additional instructions are meant to be confusing and unclear. If you ask for clarification of the instructions, he does not give any clarification but instructs you to use your best judgement. No feedback until on assignments until after midterm. Exams go beyond what is taught.

He gives you about 3 assignments a week and 1 lab. Gives you the chapters to go over in workbook and then posts his own changes to the assignments and labs. Half the time they do not match what you did in the work book. If you ask for help, you are met with a rude and unprofessional response. Will not answer any questions or clarify what he wants.

Ok, I have been taking classes for at least 30 years and this is THE worst teacher I've ever had. I cannot even begin to believe he is allowed to teach. He gives you 5 hour midterm and final exams, although some instructions will say 6 or 9 or whatever and you have no idea which is correct. The exams are insanely technical and impossible. BEWARE

For an introductory excel class, this professor is beyond terrible. He expects you to read his mind since he won't explain any of the assignments properly, and will not give any straight answers to questions. The class went from easy, to almost impossible once you hit the midterm exam. I would suggest everyone with problems report him to the dean.

Do not take this professor. Professor Stokes sets you up for failure by refusing to answer questions and by purposely giving conflicting and wrong information on exams. He says it will make us think critically, but this is an introductory class where many of the students have never used Microsoft Access before. Avoid this professor if possible.

This teacher is the worst i ever had in college. He gives unclear instructions. He states he does not have time after class to help. Students have dropped and left his class because he purposely makes it to where a person cant understand.

Is not available for help and by this I mean that he will not answer questions and tells you to use your critical thinking skills. 2/3 of the class is failing and does not understand his instructions. Prof doesn't care. The books is easy to understand and follow but the prof? Nope. Avoid at all costs.

This professor will make you use critical thinking to the max. His teaching style can be very confusing. After completing assignments from the book you will turn to his personal instructions to change it again which confuse a lot of students. He does not clearify that in the beginning. That is something you have to learn as you go. Good luck

I had a difficult time in this class. I tried to get clarification on things I got graded on but the answers I would get is something like this, Read that section in the book and see what you should have done. There was not much support and it felt like we could just all be reading the book and left to our own interpretations. No help at all!

Avoid taking this class if you don't want to be disappointed. The book is easy to follow, but the professor's instructions are unclear. You will spend more time trying to guess what he really wants, but he calls that analytical thinking. The truth is that his confusing instructions have nothing to do with analytical thinking.

This professor doesn't care how much effort you put in the homework or exams. If your homework is missing small details due to technical difficulties or lack of explanation, expect to lose a lot of points. I've done all my best on one of his assignments which took me more than two hours to do. And the outcome grade was 10/50...

Doctor Stokes is... A hard grader and his instructions for assignments and the exams are not clear at all. His teaching method is, I taught you, if you run into trouble, figure it out (BTW, instructions may be there to throw you off) don't make mistakes. The worse Profesore in American River College, EVER NEVER TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR, In fact the computer class is easy but the way he makes it very hard, he adds his own changes which makes student confuse, if you ask for help he would not response to you even your Email. in reality he shouldn't be a professor.

Did I really just take a six-hour final exam? And said exam contained material not covered in the lessons! How is that possible? He sent out the pre-final study guide and said you will need to know how to do this.... Figure it out. No lessons! I had a solid grade going into final, but I know it will be dropping because I'm sure much of it was wrong

I signed up for his class because I needed it for a degree requirement. He talks about all of his accomplishments a lot but is very rude about his expectations and his grammar is very horrible. Makes me wonder how he can be so demanding about everything needing to be correct but yet he has many grammatical errors. He's a waste of time, not worth it

Do NOT take this professor. We just took our midterm and the highest grade was a 76%. I already have a background in excel and I earned a D+. The assignments are easy -- except that his formatting requirements are so poorly explained that you will continuously get low scores.

Our average midterm score was 200 out of 500. Take this prof if you feel your GPA is getting too high.

I would not recommend that any sane person take this class. The Professor is obnoxious he purposefully makes things so confusing you cannot understand his instructions which are sometimes illiterate and you will be guessing 85% of the time. I dont think even another computer professor would even be able take this course with Professor Stokes.

Professor doesnt set reasonable expectations for the class. Knowing we have full time jobs he sets 6 hour tests (and yes it takes the whole time to complete his exams) on top of not really helping us with the material prior to the exam. You will be teaching yourself the entire course through the text book with practically no professor.

This was the hardest class I've taken in the last 3 years which is ridiculous since it's a basic course. Midterm and Final were 5-6 hours each. Homework takes hours upon hours and is critically graded. Instructions are terrible. Average class grade was a D-. I was sick for a week and missed the work and he wouldn't allow makeup. Hence the F.

This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Including K-12. I dropped the class with a 90% because I could not handle the stress this man caused me. You will never know what is expected of you. His "style requirements" on our spreadsheet were contradicting and confusing. SERIOUSLY DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I BEG YOU!!

I'm taking this class now and I wish I would have read the reviews before! The assignments from the textbook are easy but his instructions are very confusing! Just do yourself a favor, and take the class with a different professor, or just learn excel on your own. The headache and the panic attacks are not worth it.

Currently taking this class and am kicking myself for not reading these reviews first. Stokes is the worst teacher I've ever had. A 2 credit Excel course shouldn't be this difficult. He is no help and really only makes the class harder with the purposefully contradictory & confusing instructions that he adds to the straightforward book assignments

This is supposed a beginner course, but he treats it like an Advanced course! The midterm is 5hrs! If you have a child or a job, it's impossible to finish and he doesn't care. He adds things to the midterm that are not in the book, because he wants you to use your critical thinking, but this is not a critical thinking course! Don't waste your time!

I do not understand why it was so hard for this professor to help me with downloading Microsoft office. He literally blew me off and refused to do a zoom meeting to help me. In the end he said I had issues buying the book which was never mentioned at all. Talk about being helpful. Please avoid this professor! A 2 unit class should not be this hard!

This was one of the most stressful classes I have ever taken! No lectures, no videos, no guides of any kind! Just you and your book. Get ready to be lost and for a 5 and 6 hour long test. Dont take this class if you have kids, work or a life.

Professor Stokes is the worst Professor I have ever had. I am taking this class fully online (asynchronous) and there is absolutely no help from the professor. You have a five hour midterm and final that is absolutely ridiculous for an 8-week, 2-unit class. He automatically recommends you "drop the course" if you have any problems.

Be prepared for extremely VAGUE assignments. If you think the assignments are vague just wait until you see the exam. 5 HOURS. I was a straight A student until I took his class.

I emailed him again a day later and he never replied back.

I would email the professor or the assistant for clarification. would reply last minute with no help! had to fail this class shouldnt have to struggle to obtain a clarification. Steps make no sense !! will have to retake with a different professor.

Stokes makes this class unnecessarily complicated. The class isn't set up to teach you excel, it's set up to teach you to read long instruction sets that use outdated and needlessly technical jargon and sentence structure. He's extremely particular about what he wants and does an extremely poor job of describing it. RUN AWAY

Worst Professor of my life. I took his CISA 340 Powerpoint presentation class. AVOID AVOID And if possible, AVOID his class. Worst Professor of my life, plus the worst Professor of ARC I have had so far.

I dropped the class two days in. Everything was so confusing, coming from a straight A student. The assignments are explained in a very coded way, hard to figure out what I was actually supposed to be doing. A million random rules and ways to miss points. I need the class to finish my credits but I will not be taking it with him in any circumstance

Assignments based on book the exams are very different and difficult. Asked help, he told me that the responses were in the book. Makes assumption about students personal lives. You have to sign in to prove you were in the class, If you were in class and didn't sign- He would tell you that it isn't his problem and you'd still get the points docked

I have contacted him through email in which he responded to one of my two questions. When I emailed him back requesting an answer to the second question he didn't even bother to answer. I have waited a week already.

Entirely uncooperative with my disability requirements. Any attempt to communicate with the man was met with either single-word caveman responses or no response at all. I had to get the dean involved and he still refused to respond to my messages. This man has damaged my grade and wasted my time. Do not take, or be prepared to file a report.

Stokes' handling of his online class is extremely flawed. He was an impediment to my learning & did absolutely no "teaching." He is intolerant of opposing viewpoints, has no established rubric, so his grading is arbitrary. He uses an operating system (not what the college requires/offers their students) & takes no ownership for issues this creates.
