She's nice and knowledgeable but she doesn't explain things well. Her lectures are very dry and boring. You have to teach yourself everything.
Completely lecture heavy, rushes through material, learning new material even on test days. Lecture slides are not the same as she has on her computer. Calls for group quizzes with 1 sheet of paper for 4 people. Unbelievably boring.
She's care a lot and is very good in office hours. She makes awkward jokes, but it is just a way to lighten the mood. If I have to take chem I would take it with her again.
This class hurts my heart. Paying attention in lectures is not necessary since she rushes through the material and just reads off the slides. Better off teaching yourself. If you aren't into chem her class is miserable.
She's very nice but she's not good at explaining the material. Attend lecture for clicker points but know that you will have to teach yourself. Hie
Kelleher's lectures revolve around her reading off of slides that everyone already has. She also fails miserably at explaining concepts and is of little help outside the class. Apart from this Kelleher's test ask obscure questions that aren't found in any assigned resource. Overall Bing's chem department is disappointing and Kelleher adds to that.
Easy class, Kelleher is amazing if you go to office hours. Also, the TAs tend to be awesome. Anyone who complains about the 107 class probably doesn't study properly or use the resources available. The 108 class is significantly harder, though. Kelleher is a bad lecturer, similar to Lawless, but has less to cover and still doesn't get through it.
Everybody told me that CHEM111 would be the end of my life but Kelleher made it pretty enjoyable. Yes she does read off lecture slides but they are always posted so her going "too fast" is no excuse. Quizzes are challenging but tests are much easier. As long as you go over the lectures after each class and write decent lab reports, you will be fine
Kelleher prides herself on being available to her students outside of class. However, when I went to her office hours, she wasn't there and my questions weren't answered. In my opinion, she made this class harder than it should've been and attending her office hours was the way to get a good grade.
My experience with Dr. Kelleher is mixed. She is very professional and tries to add humor into her otherwise mundane lectures. However, she is just that. Mundane. To be fair, as a science major, stem professors tend to be the most "interesting" people of the bunch. So as far as science professors go she's ight.
I did not enjoy Clarice. She read straight from the slides and was iffy on giving feedback for questions. At times, she seemed to be just as lost as we were. I would absolutely not take chem with her, she makes the material harder to learn and honestly, pretty boring and bland. You might as well just stay home and read the textbook with her.
Chem 111 was one of the hardest things Ive ever done. My advice is to do as well on l all the lab reports as possible and dont miss class. This class is going to take up all your free time so do not take it unless you need it. Put so much work into the class and it still ended up ruining my GPA. She is available outside of class though.
Dr. kelleher is just like Turnpenny , except she doesn't make jokes. Ultimately it doesn't matter who you have for chem 107 /1 08 the grade you get is usually from effort outside the class, Dr. Kelleher is fine, if your unclear about anything you can ask and it gets cleared up.
Three one-hour lectures a week. tests are very hard, people rarely get above an 80. Quiz/Test every week.
Professor Kelleher is a very nice and sweet teacher who is always willing to answer any of tour questions. Her office hours are definitely helpful and will host up your quiz/test scores by a large amount! However, the quizzes and tests are extremely hard and you will need to study a lot in order to do well.
Going to class was basically pointless. I taught myself more about chem than she ever could've. The only way I learned was from studying the text book. She only reads off the slides in class anyway, which are already vague enough. The group quizzes are GPA killers too. Chem 111 at bing is all around terrible..
Do. Not. Take. Her.
Kelleher moves extremely fast through the material without fully teaching it, and the tests and quizzes are much more in depth than what she goes over in class. She also doesn't answer questions clearly in class. She can also be passive-aggressive, and the materials you're graded on is different than what you learn from her.
She just read everything off of her tablet and didn't seem to be able to answer any questions given during class, not to mention that she was very boring and seemed like she herself, did not even want to be there. Try to get into Turnpenny's class if you can
OMG this class was a very painful experience. I stopped paying attention to her lectures because they were super boring and I did not find that that helpful for the exam. Some people did find them helpful. I studied basically own my own with the textbook and with tutoring. I was able to pull through, but this class is MAD WORK.
Chem sucks in general, and taking it with Kelleher did not make it any better. Lectures are absolutely boring and clicker questions have nothing to do with anything. The whole chemistry department at Binghamton is just a mess.
There is no woman deserves a 2.2 rating, had for chem 107 then the other guy for chem 108. Honestly not much of a difference, Chem is a really hard class regardless of the teacher, you have to put in the effort. I found she read off the slides a lot but whenever I approached with a questions she always explained topics clearly
Doesnt explain things well and assumes that everyone is on the same page knowledge-wise, which sucks because shell skip over steps or explanations and leave everyone confused. Dont take her lecture unless youre ready good at chemistry
The Chem 107/8 "team" is horrible no matter who you get. Both classes are awful- very difficult&a lot of work. Kelleher just reads off the slides that everyone already has&doesnt explain anything. The tests&quizzes are much more in depth than the lectures, which just touch the surface of the material, so you basically have to teach yourself. AVOID!
Chem 111 is a very difficult course! Kelleher does not make it much easier, you have to do a lot of work on your own.
after putting hours into this class it is still hard to do well. lectures are very boring and she doesn't explain things well at all. she also tends to complicate simple concepts which makes them more confusing. nearly everyone is confused every single day. she does explain things in office hours, but the textbook and lon capa are everything
She really isn't that bad. The course itself is made far more difficult than it could be, but that is the fault of the entire department. She explains material clearly when time allows her to. We wasted a lot of time on clicker questions, though, which forced her to speed through some confusing sections.
Kelleher is the nicest woman on the planet and is extremely helpful if you make the effort to seek her out. However, the class is difficult due to its extremely fast pace so you MUST stay on top of your work/studying if you want to do well.
This class is a condensed version of CHEM 107 and 108, so it is going to be a lot of work. If you have taken general chemistry classes before, youll be much better off. However, it is a lot of material and is therefore destined to be hard. She is very nice and knows a lot, however I think she may expect too much out of her class. VERY serious prof
CHEM 111 is a very difficult course but Dr. Kelleher makes it so much easier. She is the nicest professor at Bing and is extremely helpful and understanding if you take the time and seek her help.
Kelleher is one of my favorite professors at Bing, and although CHEM 111 is very hard, it is still much easier than the CHEM 107/108 track. By design, the course goes at double speed so as to cram two semesters of chemistry into one; Kelleher does everything she can to help her students succeed and if you do the work you could definitely get an A.
Professor Kelleher isn't the problem but rather the students who refuse to show up to class or seek out her help and then do poorly in the class. Chem 111 requires a lot of time commitment but the topics aren't overly difficult and if you have taken high school chemistry you should definitely be capable of doing well in the course.
Dr. Kelleher does her best to be available for students, and if you put the work into it this class is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
CHEM 111 is a difficult course but is still much easier than taking CHEM 107/108. Although the course goes at double the pace, the material goes much less in-depth. Although challenging, Kelleher makes every effort to help students succeed and an A is definitely attainable for students who have taken chem in HS or are willing to put in an effort.
Only take her if you have a strong chemistry background. She speeds through the lesson super quickly and does not give you any time to process the information. She also does not give us enough time to answer questions. Do not take this class if you can barely remember high school chemistry.
Professor Kelleher made me consider dropping out of school. The amount of work she gives in a week is equal to my other three classes combined. She gives many exams and quizzes, although doesn't give enough time for them, and blazes through the material so quick I don't retain any info. While I'm sure she's a nice person she's not a good professor
Don't take Professor Kelleher's class. She does not teach the content well but simultaneously expects you to know everything. She also grades really unfairly, including really fast deadlines and does not take into account that we have other classes. If I am not doing an assignment for her class, I am worrying about an upcoming lab report/test/quiz.
The entire class is just reading off a powerpoint and doing clicker questions. The tests are alright, but there is a quiz or test every other week. The TAs and Kelleher won't help you over email. You HAVE to go to office hours which is difficult when you have a busy schedule. Also hard to get help when you have a question or two the night before.
From what I hear, Kelleher's one of the better intro chem professors at Bing. If you remember some of regents chem, shouldn't be too bad. Does her best for such a big lecture class. Labs are hell but the same across all profs. Lectures include enough coverage that you don't really need textbook.
It was the UGTA position I had for this semester. She's very kind and willing to help her students including us TAs. As a UGTA, you can choose either to attend the discussion session with the students or become a PS chemist that have office hours for tutoring. Definitely try this out if you're interested (need at least A- for general chemistry).
Good teacher in a tough class. The one issue with her is that she doesn't do a great job explaining the more confusing parts. Textbook isn't required but useful for studying. There were 3 tests plus an optional to make your average better and a final so even though it's hard it's very lenient with grading. She knows it well and is easily accessible
Awesome professor!
DOESN'T t know how to teach!! I was confused for most of the classes and whenever you asked her to clarify, she still didn't make any sense. And don't even get me started on the lab reports that we had to do. The TA was a tough grader and said we should use our graded papers to write the following report but he didn't even provide it on time.
Clarice is a very kind woman and does a good job at explaining material in lectures, however, if you are going to be successful in this class, GO to office hours - even if its 1 day a week. The TAs will go over homework questions and important test notes that will SAVE you. iClicker questions you have to try on. Would take again.
She is a very nice person, but when it comes to teaching she wasnt the best. I was usually left confused, and the homework on LonCapa felt impossible to get the correct answer sometimes. As long as you put in the work and studying you should be okay!
I learned a lot from kelleher and enjoyed my time in her class, but I will say her teaching style is a hit or miss for some people. If you learn well from memorization and definitions, then kelleher probably isn't the best option. However, if you're like me and learn well from examples and practice problems, then you should take her class
Kelleher's class was a walk in the park compared to Chem 108. As long as you go to lectures, and do the homework, you will do fine in the class. A lot of stuff gets dropped at the end of the semester. I liked her teaching style but obviously it does not work for everyone. She genuinely cares and if you need an extension you will get it.
Professor Kelleher is so accessible and really has teaching down to a science. Everything has a purpose, she emphasizes problems, and though she goes at a fast pace, she makes sure everything is clear and understood. Can't recommend enough.
She is a nice and helpful professor, but the class is absolute hell. There's no time to catch your breath and actually study. I was constantly struggling to get the right answers to assignments. She is very good at helping out and answering questions, but the class is an insane amount of work, especially if you are taking other tough courses.
She is a super nice professor and wants students to do well, lots of extra help. Textbook is pointless, we never use it but it was required. Not worth buying it. Class is really hard and there's lots of work, and she uses iClicker to grade participation so pay attention in class. Tests are pretty hard and homework can sometimes feel impossible.
Grades attendance/participation through iClicker. No curves on exams and says that she won't curve final grades but she does. Saw a review here saying that kids who took Regents Chem will be fine but that's wrong. AP Chem kids are the ones who'll be fine. The prelabs, labs, and post labs are all busy work but they're a big part of your grade.
Dr. Kelleher was a mediocre lecturer and completely lacked interpersonal empathy. The class itself moved so quickly it was impossible to keep up if you fell behind at any point. Would not recommend Dr. Kelleher.
This class is/was the reason for my mental decline. The powerpoints are not helpful at all and most of the TAs are incompetent and google any question you ask them. Kellher talks unnecessarily fast to the point where you dont have time to process anything shes saying while trying to take notes. If you take this class, good luck.
Lecture heavy and boring class overall. Class was extremely hard to not fall asleep during lecture. Average professor teaching a hard, fast paced chem course that needs more than just a basic professor.
Chem 111 simply is an awful class. I'm not sure how much I can blame on the professor but the class sucks. Everyone in Watson has to take this so good luck. Its possible to pass if you do all the work. Don't lets bad tests and quizzes bother you. It is really hard to do well.
Kelleher is a very good professor, but she is teaching a very hard class. Many students blame their grades on her, but she actually teaches very well. She is knowledgeable about the subject and explains things very well. Go to office hours!!!
Absolutely loved her as a professor, she genuinely cared about our mental health and physical health giving us plenty of opportunities to make up certain tasks and earn extra credit. The class itself is just incredibly challenging as its one semester of ALL OF general chem.
Prof. Kelleher does the best she possibly can. She teaches the CHEM 111 course, which is a brutal course to say the least. She's very nice, caring and understanding of students, and is a good lecturer. Lectures are mandatory if you want a good participation grade. The class may be brutal, but she's understanding and is willing to help.
Doctor Kelleher is genuinely a nice person. However, CHEM111 is brutally fast-paced and has loads of work to do every week. Between Lectures, Labs, and Discussions, it feels as if you can never escape chem. She understandably is assigned a difficult task in teaching all of GenChem in one semester, but the class is often disorganized and chaotic.
Great professor, horrible class. But Clarice is a girlboss and I respect her to the max.
Pretty lenient professor on most things, clear with her expectations and is fine as long as you do what you have to on time, though she's usually pretty flexible with that when she can be.
Dr. Kelleher is a nice person and cares a lot, but is not very good at explaining complex ideas. After going to her lectures I feel more confused than I did before class. I rely entirely on Dr. Murphy's office hours and Chemflix videos to succeed on exams and weekly challenges. I would recommend trying to get another professor if possible.
She was nice and receptive to questions, but not the best at explaining complicated ideas. I basically learned everything when studying for the exams. The final is so easy though
Kelleher does her best at managing the difficulty of Chem111. Because the class moves so fast she never gets really into any depth on topics so the material is pretty easy. Your lab and discussion experience depends on your TA and group so it's hit or miss to say the least. She's super responsive to questions in lecture and seems really nice
Kelleher was definitely not the best professor. She is very vague during lectures, making concepts very hard to understand. She is also not very understanding of her students like many of the other professors in the chem department are. Overall, the class would have been much better with a better professor.
Professor Kelleher is a good professor it is just CHEM 111 had too many chapters for any student to handle. I had a major issue that was totally my fault and she was totally understanding and was glad to help. During her office hours, she's a real help but lectures go fast but are not really her fault. CHEM 111 is hard but major curve so its okay.
Class is really hard and she's not amazing at explaining things in class so need to supplement outside and get help (and USE THE TEXTBOOK)
I like this professor for chem 105, she really tries to make sure that all of the students understand. I think she also reads the rate my professors to gain constructive criticism, which I appreciated. This class was a little bit more difficult than chem 104 but watching the chemflix really helps, and going to office hours.
If you put in effort and go to her office hours if you need help you will do fine in the class.
For chem 105, Dr. Kelleher followed rules set by a group of professors so I can't speak about her too much personally. She was a decent lecturer and knew what she was talking about but hard to pay attention sometimes. Gen chem is awful anyway and the only reason I got an A was because I spent 20-30 hours a week studying and doing work.
Kelleher did not know how to explain the topics we were learning in Chemistry and could not answer any questions. I was very worried about Chemistry and she did nothing to help that since her teaching just held me back. We would spend forever on useless questions and not learn important information
I personally did not love her teaching style. She wasn't able to explain concepts in a way that was digestible to students. I don't think this is all her fault, the chem department overall is unhelpful. Chem 105 is one of those courses you just have to teach yourself.
I mean I do not know chem and ended up transfering out Watson, but this was a touch class. Clarice was a great teacher and worked really hard to teach this course, just a very challenging, fast paced course.
I love her - she is so supportive and will answer any questions you might have.
If you register for classes, try everything you can not to get this professor. I went to her for help one day during her office hours. She got upset when asked "why did you choose to use this equation," she said rudely, "I do not know why everyone keeps asking me that. I do not choose to use equations ever." She also gives very vague lectures.
Dr Kelleher is a very good teacher. CHEM111 is HW heavy and there's a lot of material, so it may seem like she goes too fast, but go to her office hours and she'll go slower if you need. Tests are difficult but not unmanageable if you study hard for multiple days before. She's responsive to questions and will help you, but only if you ask for it.
Super sweet and very caring but she didn't always do the best job at explaining things during lectue but she tried to accomodate to people but she would do a good job at answering people's questions. But she would also literally speed through some slides and do 4 in the last 2 mins of lecture to just get them done without really explaining them
I liked Dr. Kelleher, but this is definitely a difficult class. I feel like I could have done better if I had done more practice problems, but I've also never been strong with chem so I don't know. Study everything and hope that you get a good quiz group. The TAs are ok, so go to them or Dr. Kelleher when you need help. Textbook was mildly helpful.
For CHEM111 at least, Dr. Kelleher gave great care in making sure students were prepared for the combined materials of GenChem I&II. Midterms can be tricky even if you studied beforehand, but the final, which is provided by the ACS, is comparatively easier; try for all the exams. The textbook is mildly useful; I recommend finding another one online
Really good professor but the course itself is extremally difficult due to the time span it is in. Dr Kelleher yes goes fast but takes time for questions and is always avalible at office hours. The TA's aren't much help but there is plenty of resources to help you.
Good overall, sometimes not very clear with explanations
Kelleher is a quick teacher so it is mandatory to pay attention or at least stay on track with the content given. Discussions aren't very useful but the TA's are helpful and teach you the topic. Hard to get a good grade but it is manageable.
Hard class but everyone goes through it. Take it with Kelleher. The other professor is hard to understand and does not explain things well. Kelleher makes an effort to help students however the one time I asked for help she was a little condescending. Be prepared to do badly on tests but still possible to do well in class if you do the HW and labs.
Poor design to the course but not Kellehers fault. She tries to be helpful and makes sure shes available for students. HW is done on LONCAPA which is hard to do without Chegg and you need to manipulate your answers. Discussion not helpful especially if you have a bad group. TAs are not always helpful (they have given me the wrong answers before)
Class was all just a blur. Hard to rate the professor
Lectures are sometimes unclear, but Kelleher is open to questions and lots of resources are available for CHEM 111. The course is really difficult, so be sure to seek out help any chance you get for anything you even remotely don't understand.
INSANE. She "teaches" 105 by reading of the slides. Uses shortcuts with the math and could generally be less informed about what's going on. Wrote in green pen once in horrible handwriting and doesn't explain anything ever. I was so beyond confused, I ended up going to ANOTHER LECTURE SECTION to learn the material. Do yourself a favor.
Reading RMP made me scared to take chem 105 with Kelleher...but she was such a great professor. Chem 105 is a very challenging class so to blame doing bad on strictly the professor is wrong. I did better in 105 with Kelleher than 104 w Turnpenny which speaks volumes considering the difficulty difference...I def recommend 105 w Kelleher. Use UTS!!!
Dr. Kelleher is a great professor, she is very accommodating to student's concerns and is available during office hours for help. She is extremely knowledgable and makes concepts easy to understand.
Prof Kelleher's lectures are relatively solid and she is nice & patient. Sometimes Iclicker questions get annoying if you're not 100% caught up on material. Chem is hard so it's a lot of work regardless of the professor but she's a solid lecturer and paces well (she's usually a bit slower than the other sections).
Before I left Binghamton and returned home to Farmingdale, I was a chem major before geography. The class itself is very hard, but that's not really Kelleher's fault, the department is just badly designed. Most of the stuff I would say is based on participation and tests. Weekly challenges, iClicker, LON-CAPA, ALEKS, learning assessments all suck.
Dr. Kelleher is knowledgeable about the subject. However, lectures are pretty confusing/boring and extremely fast paced. The course itself is a lot of work. Very difficult class but not likely to fail if you try hard.
Extremely fast-paced and you will feel lost in the lectures, Kelleher is very knowledgeable and teaches well but the difficulty of the course will make you hate her anyway. Put in HOURS of studying each week, discussions are useless, make a study group and go to the tutors(they are really helpful), get your points from homework and labs!
The lectures were not very helpful. She is nice but I don't think she is a very good teacher. The TA's are also terrible.
She is very nice and cool but I feel like the teaching isn't her strong suit, I definitely would recommend other chem professors. She is manageable but the others teach better
I did not enjoy any part of CHEM 111. I'll give props to Kelleher because she wasn't a bad lecturer, but I believe this course is just too much to learn in one semester. The lectures were super crammed, iClicker participation questions were ok, discussion was useless, and the homework was pretty hard to do without Chegg or ChatGPT.
Good teacher who loved the subject but made it feel insufferable to the rest of us as the class felt like it was moving at a million miles a second. She clearly loves the subject but has trouble relating to the masses of engineers who don't share her passion. Posted all presentations online so that you could keep up as best you could.
As someone who hates chemistry and had trouble finding my way around it, she is very approachable and kind compared to the other members of the chem department I have met. Her kindness made me believe in myself more. Sadly getting her sections to quiet down at the beginning of class is difficult a lot of people talk over her, don't be that person.
She knows her stuff and her lectures are ok. Certainly not bad but also not the best chem professor. She goes very fast sometimes and it shard to follow. She is really receptive to questions and answer every students questions, which is nice.
Dr. Kelleher is definitely a bright person and knows chemistry. She's really approachable and super nice outside of class as well. The course is a difficult one, and for most engineers you just have to get through it, but she makes it bearable.
She is very knowledgeable and always answers any questions, but in my opinion she breezed through units as if it was review and not new content. Just put in the extra time outside of class and don't put off studying for the LAs and it should be fine. She also does iClicker a lot but so do the rest of the chem profs.
Easily the most fast paced class of all time. Without a strong base in chemistry and hours on hours spent studying you will fail
Her lectures are extremely quick and boring. She rushes through a unit or more per day of very difficult material in a monotone voice the entire time. Also, lots of iClicker questions that she tends to not give enough time to solve. If you enjoy sitting in a lecture class while a professor constantly talks, you may enjoy it. No class participation.
Lectures are mandatory, and attendance is taken through iClicker. She teaches the material well, but it's mostly just her reading off the slides. Occasionally, she will go on tangents about topics unrelated to the course or overexplain easy topics. She stays around after class for a little while to answer questions.
Where do I even start? She criticized our responses to the mid-semester survey (Saying our opinions were wrong), sped through the slides without much example or explanation, and has NO passion for chemistry, making her lectures extremely boring and difficult to follow. As a result, the discussion questions were EXTREMELY difficult every week.
amazing professor! its a very difficult course no matter who teaches as 111 is two semesters rolled into one, but as long as you do all assignments and spend some time doing practice problems you'll be fine. this isn't a memorization course you need to actually work to understand the material, but thats a major plus imo. labs and hw are free points
