Advertising & Promotion: A challenging class. Mr. Hallpike requires studying the book cover to cover and doing tons of extra credit to earn points for your grade. Lots of hard work... not for the faint hearted or partiers.
I learned a lot in his class. He is always there for the students though he assigns a lot of homework & reading.

His a tennis instructor too...

He's funny and a cool guy who jokes around a lot, but his tests are hard and there's a lot of reading and studying involved. Never boring though. Only take his classes if your willing to study a few hours for every 1 hour in his class.
Out of touch with the real business world.
Clark is a very helpful teacher. He always has time for his students in and out of the classroom.
Needs to retire. He is out of touch with the changes in the buisness world. He needs to change his teaching plans and needs to respond to students e-mails.
Never returns papers or homework. He thinks that telling jokes will appease students. We're smarter than that. He's lazy and never prepared for class.
The only way you learn in the class is by reading the book, a chapter a class period which takes at least an hour and a half a chapter he freaks out at little details with homework, and he makes many jokes at people in class and if you are the one he is joking about it is easy to become offended by them
Many people in the class didn't do well this wasn't becuase of the professor though! You have to read every chapter out of the book really well. If you actually read you'll do fine. One thing that he doesn't tell you is use the books website to help you study for the tests it helped me out a lot. It helped me get the A!
Just do the work! His bark is worse than his bite. And I think some of his jokes are funny... never inappropriate.
This guy never replies to your emails. Think he's so high in the sky and can do whatever he wants because he's the instructor. Do not take this guy! He'll make you so mad that u'll probably cuss at him
I love Hallpike, he's awesome and funny. We can talk about anything in his class and he's nice to everyone! Our projects are fun.
REALLY FUNNY.....REALLY LAID BACK, DOSENT MAKE YOU RUN OR ANYTHING..JUST SHOW UP.
Clark is an amazing teacher. He makes you work, but you will get a lot out of it. Emails were always returned and papers graded in a fair amount of time. Your grade reflects how much time you put into the class. Tests aren't hard as long as you read the text in full. A lot of humor and plenty of chances for x-tra credit.
Mr. Hallpike is awesome. Eventhjough people say he is not cool, he is. Tests were easy if you read the book. We watched many movies. He is an easy grader on everything except the paper that you have to write. Otherwise i recommend him to anybody who is going into business. Thanks for the great semester Mr. Hallpike!!
Lazy teacher, claimed he wasn't in class to teach us. He said we were suppose to teach ourselves on our own. His tests are extremely difficult. He played a lot of movies, most likely because he had nothing to teach. He could be funny and easy to get along with but that isn't going to get you to pass.He flirts with all the women staff. Don't take him!
I took this class as a telecourse. What a waste. He doesn't answer phone messages or e-mail. Tests don't reflect objectives. As a university student, I thought this would be a great way to get a class out of the way. NO WAY. He is no help and never available.
I have had Hallpike for 3 different classes. I would agree that e-mails and phone calls don't always get returned. I had him for a few online classes, and he hardly showed up the entire semester. Tests are not hard as long as you read the text. If your papers are well researched and thought out, you will do fine. He is also big on participation.
coolest professor.very helpful.people criticize him because the work gets hard sometimes and they just do bad.
WOW..... worst class ever!!! test were hard. lectures were long, projects were crapy!!!!
Be ready for his stories; he thinkgs he's really funny. He never discusses course content. Also be ready for a lot of videos. He never actually teaches anything. He likes to check his e-mail while we work in groups.
Had him for a telecourse. Work was never returned. Left him messages several times and they were never returned. Somehow I did well in spite of his lack of response.
OMG! After only two weeks, I am dropping. He is only in the classroom once a week. and expects us to get it. Not in his office when he says he is in "OFFICE HOURS." I tried, and I am a "A" student. I can't put up with teachers who pretend to know stuff. I have learned nothing!
Correcting everyone on her, Clark is AMAZING! I love his class. His tests are a breeze if you have any reading comprehension at all. Especially since they're online so you can have your notes in front of you. He is so smart its ridiculous but he is really relatable. AMAZING TEACHER!!!!!
Open book tests online but don't expect to learn much. Class is a joke. Does he really get paid for this??
OMG; don't expect any teaching. Just videos and him LEAVING THE CLASS! And then online tests which are from where? He has stories but nothing to back them up. Get out.
The only class ive ever failed. I learned nothing. Going to his class was a complete joke. His online test were so difficult. Just do yourself a favor and dont take his class.
A class that is fundamental but with this prof it is a TOTAL waste of time. But if you just show some cleavage and you will get an A. Believe me, I did and got an A without doing much studying at all!
It was an online class.
It was online. Do not take it unless you have time. There are 3 quizes a week, a test, a assignment, and a discussion.
Too much homework :(
This professor should be teaching Master's students. His approach is amazing. He wants you to overall work for your success not be a book worm. It is difficult for freshmen to understand his innovative approach. Appreciation for style of teaching will come once you start working in a real world. I am grateful to the knowledge he imparts.
I took this course online. Do NOT take it if you don't have the time. You have 2 quizzes, and/or a test, plus homework assignments every week. You read the entire book. This class has too much homework and he takes his time to grade assignments. Also, his chapter quizzes, towards the end, were from wrong chapters. Ie; Ch.18 was really Ch.17 etc.
Clark is a good professor who justly makes you earn your grade thru essays and online homework and online quizzes and tests. If you do your work you will get a good grade.
This is a really easy class. Quizzes and tests are essentially open book so if you're getting below a 90%... Some of his test questions are ambiguous and lack question details and some others have multiple right answers. I've been told via email that my justification for certain answers was correct but it still remains wrong? Easy course.
The teacher is stuck up, condescending and unwilling to help his students. He does not make assignments clear, nor does he respond to emails from his students. He'll go weeks without grading papers and won't respond to emails, but be extremely particular about how you submit your own work. Worst teacher I've ever had, he only cares about himself.
Bad instructor. Lots of videos, little teaching. He thinks his stories are funny. Hung up on race.
Clark is hung up on old worn out subjects like affirmative action he actually had us write a term paper on that. He talked a lot about race and not enough on business. And yes he tells a lot of corny stories which are older than affirmative action. His class is not bad but, it needs to be more about business subjects and less about his beliefs.
Instructor is very very very particular. If something is not the how he wanted, automatic zero. You must take advantage of all extra credit in order to make up for his pickyness. Papers didnt feel business related. Quizzes and exams were easy as long as you read book and powepoint. Just follow the syllabus, you should be fine.
Do not take this class with him! A ton of busy work, he is very picky, quizzes are not on material from given chapter, he is unwilling to help his students learn, rude on the phone and unprofessional.
Quizzes are not on material from the given chapter, a lot of busy work, very picky, unwilling to work with students seeking additional help, dismisses your questions about course content.
I'm not sure what everyone is talking about when it comes to the quizzes and tests. The quiz and test questions are directly taken from the material in the book, word for word. Mr Hallpike does expect quality work that is turned in. Is that so bad? Take this teacher. If you don't get an A it's your own fault...
I don't know what a lot of these reviews are talking about. You couldn't handle open-book online quizzes? I really liked Clark's innovative approach and relating business to real-world application. He wants his students to be culturally sensitive and well-rounded. I got an A in the class and looked forward to class every week. Simple- if you read.
The class is easy to get an A if you just do everything. People complain that the quizzes and tests are hard but the questions are in the order of the book. Super nice guy and really funny.
He takes a while to get back to you on emails. Taking the class over the summer was insanely hard, unless it was a week I didn't have too much else going on. Some assignments have to do with race issues.
He will give out powerpoints, except none of the information from the powerpoint of the chapter will be of any use to you when you take the tests and exams. 3 tests per week, along with either an exam or a long paper. I wish I hadn't taken this class with this teacher.
Hallpike is one of the professors I would never take again, his grading rules for papers are a complete waste of time. I had to redo 4 assignments because my headings weren't up to his standards. Tests are 50 questions each and difficult. There's 3 quizzes a week that are easy and on quizlet, the assignments aren't worth the points he gives out.
Ridiculous additional steps even for easy tasks. Everything that he reads from you (including emails) must have this heading: 1. Your Name 2. Marketing 103 - Sec 770 3. 8-6-2016 4. Question Regarding Required Book 5. 75 Words 6. I am highly motivated I had a question not related to MKT-103, no headed no response. Clark is strict.
The quiz and test are really easy. If you use your book or look online the questions are there. People say theres 3 quizes a week, yet they are super short and easy. You can literally copy and paste the heading and change what you need to. Not that big of a deal. Don't be lazy.
Pros: Is knowledgeable in the business field, has great advice. Offers so much extra credit that it's practically impossible to fail. Cons: Pretty strict grader, wants the headings so specific and in his way or he will take points off/make you redo it. Also the race issue was talked about way too much. Sometimes I thought I was in the wrong class.
Took two online courses with him this semester. He's strict, but don't let his strict rules intimidate you. Everything you'll learn will be clear and direct. I suggest not missing any homework (easy points), being familiar with the book, and taking advantage of any and all extra credit. You'll get an A without a problem. HIGHLY structured course.
Hallpike was a great professor. He's very passionate with what he teaches and he wants you to succeed in life. Although it seems like he gives a lot of hw to do, but trust me it's not as bad as it seems. There are a lot of credit opportunity and theres no way you can fail his class unless you don't do any of the work. I passed his class with A.
Mr. Hallpike is a great teacher who cares for his students. He truly wants the students to succeed.
My best professor so far. He's teaches business through real life examples, lectures, quizzes, exams and a research paper. I learned more in his class than any other. He gives a lot of hw, but trust me you will learn so much. He is strict but gives lots of extra credit opportunities. He speaks of race in class because it still exists in business.
Hallpike is an amazing teacher. He is respectful, and also brings up the importance of being aware of privilege in the business industry. I would absolutely take any class that has him as a teacher. Just do it. Don't skip his classes especially his hybrid ones. 20 pts per class, which really does add up.
My class was an 8 week online course and I'm a visual learner so I found it a bit difficult. There were alot of papers, quizes and homework each week. Mr. Hallpike made his self available to help and was very specific in his syllabus se I knew what to expect from the start.
Professor Hallpike has had some bad reviews on here which really made me curious before taking his class. Let me tell you this, all of the negative feedback is from people who didn't care to read the chapters and put in the work. He is a very fair professor giving easy assignments for an effortless A by the end of your semester.
Prof Hallpike is very intense. He is up front about having extremely specific requirements and not accepting work that do not meet these. Even online he only opens up lessons one week at a time, so you cannot work ahead. He give A LOT of extra credit, but you're only eligible if all the work is done. Don't miss deadlines and follow instructions.
if you do all the assignments to your best ability, you'll pass. he is very strict on his expectations but they are all achievable. do the discussion posts, writing assignments and quizzes and you'll be okay. if you are bad a writing papers then don't take him. he does give extra credit options as well.
Hallpike is an amazing professor and definitely knows what he's talking about. Don't listen to the other reviews. As long as you are prepared to work and want to be there you will be just fine! He offers tons of extra credit opportunities and wants everyone to pass. His expectations are clear and high but are very reasonable for a college student.
Great class
By far the worst instructor I have ever had and it isn't even close. I took his Summer course and it is the only time I EVER dropped a class due to how ridiculously high his standards are while not teaching a thing. Doesn't help his students either and is RELENTLESS with deadlines and grading. He won't help you. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE.
Gives a lot of homework, tough grader and won't even give you feedback to do better.
Mr. Hallpike was a nice professor, but he didn't get to the point of the lecture till the very end of class. He was a tough grader and sometimes he creeped me out. He would always call on just me during class, it was awkward. Overall I did learn a lot from the course, I just don't think I would take another class with him. He seemed bored.
He's Ok. Very strict with grading.
Do not take this class if you value your sanity. This professor will mark you off on the littlest things and the discussion posts are due on weird days and you don't even get feedback on them. Just a complete awful experience, lol.
Honestly, I was quite scared to take this class from the bad reviews they have. But those bad reviews came from people that didn't do much because it was so easy getting a good grade in the class. He makes his expectations clear and his extra credit are not only good towards the grade but information that is important to know.
I would recommend taking this professor again. He is a tough grader and complicates a lot. Imagine i disarranged a certain rubric on his paper he didn't mark the whole paper i got a 0 on the paper just because i disarranged a rubric
Hallpike's online course clearly illustrated what needed to be done every week and when the due dates were. No surprises in this class. It's very important to read the syllabus and rubrics if you want a good grade on your papers. Follow the requirements! There is a lot of reading as the textbook is quite long but you actually use most of your book.
Professor Hallpike is a nice guy, quite funny at times. However, I found the workload quite heavy at times. Very strict grader, you must include the 6-point header and academic dishonesty statement at the end of assignments or points will be deducted. On a positive note, I did learn a lot from this class, and I am thankful for that.
I'm honestly shocked at all the bad reviews! He does have very strict/particular way of wanting little things (like the headers) but overall it was an easy class. He was kind and responded to emails quickly. Classwork isn't a heavy load, if you keep up with the lectures it will be an easy A.
I took the marketing course.Honestly, it's easy. Discussion board usually every week, 1 or 2 quizzes a week, and then an exam and written assignment every once in a while. However, the DBs aren't really marketing related and he's a tough grader lol. For me, I never got full credit for my written work. But if you aim for 100 you'll probs get a 90
I really enjoyed this class as long as you keep up with assignments and read them carefully you will do good, in class he does tend to get a bit off topic but makes it fun and engages with students he also offers plenty of extra credit and the exams are easy as long as you pay attention.
uncaring, unaware of his surroundings and forgetful does not give feedback also slideshow pdf files are not updated.
I took this class over summer and this professor had everything organized very well on d2l. This class was easy and would recommend this online class.
He is considered a tough grader because he sets clear expectations and wants you to meet them, he's one of those professors who emphasizes career/university readiness. Easy to reach outside of class, difficulty as a professor is balanced out by offering extra credit, truly does want all his students to get an A/B. open to helping with rec letters.
Unfortunately it was not what I expected for marketing. Most of the class lectures were talks and conversations that had nothing to do with marketing. Also he tries to sneak in "left wing" ideas into the lectures. This really doesn't add any value to the class and just makes it a waste of time.
I took this class completely online, and the content was easy to understand, but his grading style regarding discussions was very unclear. He is a very tough grader. Would not recommend this class unless you're ready to read and take a lot of quizzes.
Attendance in class was mandatory, but in-class content was lacking. His few actual lectures always go off-topic, and you end up learning very little. The only way to learn in this class is by just reading the book. The discussions on D2L are always off-topic and unrelated to marketing and the chapters you read for the week. Wouldn't recommend him.
He is a really great teacher in the aspect that he teaches you a lot about life and uses great examples in the real world about marketing. I would have liked for him to discuss about marketing a little bit more but I am still very satisfied with the class!
This class was relatively easy. He often talks about random things that don't often relate to the topics. Attendance is very important because he gives a quiz at the end of class every day that is twenty points. Their is no exceptions to this rule. You are expected to do about two group presentations. Homework can be a lot sometimes.
I took MMR 101 this spring. On the syllabus vs the way he actually grades were very different and confusing. The discussion posts were extremely strict. The one good thing is he does give multiple opportunities for extra credit. This is one class you have to have the textbook for, just be prepared.
He is straightforward with his syllabus, follow it and you'll pass with a minimum B. Tough grader on discussion posts but if you talk to him 1:1 he'll help you out. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT IT'LL TAKE AT MOST 2 HOURS TO COMPLETE. Also Very knowledgeable professor that could help you network throughout ECC.
You learn almost nothing about marketing in this class. Just teach yourself via youtube or books
No one better. The most caring guy, do the work, you'll learn from the best.
Prof Hallpike is a very tough grader, but his syllabus clearly explains expectations and has detailed rubrics. With weekly quizzes and discussion posts, staying on track and following the rubric leads to success.*no late work*He is easy to reach, and I learned a lot from his class. I wish this course with him were offered in person. I recommend!!
