A nightmare - have now taken 5 sem's of math, all A's - she's the worst
All of her work is handwritten, including the text...YUK. for math it's too hard
Trust me folks, it does not get any worse that this. I completed 4 semesters of math after her - all A's, so I think I can judge.
Yes, her book is handwritten but she really is a nice person. Just tell her what you need and she'll help you. However, does give a great amount of HW!

she is not all that bad.. yes her textbook is hand written but i've had alot of teachers that were alot worse.she gets kind of chock happy at times.but a good teacher will help you understand. but has wierd rules about talking and will move your seat.
I dropped her and threw her crazy ass textbook in the TRASH. She was the math nazi. Completely unpleasant and UNREALISTIC with her demands.
This woman is very rude. She has no respect for her students. I tried to crash her class and I am so thankful she wouldn't add me. I hear from current students that her teaching skills are very poor and she expects more than she is willing to give.

She use her textbook (good thing they are cheap); furthermore, her explaining is clear. The bad thing about her is that she wants everything her way. If you don't do it her way, she will not give you points, even if your answer is correct.
This lady is very rude. She never has time to go over a question after class. she tells the student to meet up with her at another time. Very unclear, and makes up her own book that does not make sense. Out of control.

Be aware, this teacher, although I believe her to have good intentions, comes off rude. Her pride of being wrong constantly clashes with her empathy towards her students. Just sit in on the first class; you'll understand. I remained--looks as over half the class dropped, so you do the math.
She gives students a "study guide" before the test, but the test lookes nothing like the study guide. She is not helpful at all. Don't take her.
Can't stand the woman. She needs a life other than math. Her hw is horribly long and time comsuming. It's so difficult to get an A. Grading is bazaar. she told my class "this class is not the time to have fun." don't recomment this person one bit.

She is helpful when you go to her during her office hours. A lot of homework and very lengthy tests. Her final was 3 hours! Her grading is weird because you really don't know what you're gonna get until the semester is over.

If all of the people that are whining about this teacher would use that time to do homework instead of complaining they would pass. How dumb are you if you blame the teacher for giving homework and you can't pass pre-algebra? Ms Allen was very helpful to me and I thank her for that.
This lady likes to make people feel so stupid if you don't know what your doing. If you do all the work and pay attention she is very easy. Cares about attendence to much and the rules of the school. Didn't like this teacher. She is also ****!! I recommend not taking this ****.
Tough, but very fair. She has zero tolerance for slackers or people who goof around but if you do her homework (which is a lot and tedious) you'll get an A and become a more efficient Math student.

Oh my god, she wrote her own math book on long legal paper and charged a fortune for it at the bookstore, waaaay too much homework, evil, impolite. hated this class. be afraid....be very afraid.

I have never dissliked a teacher more then Ms. Allen. She does not teach or answer questions, she simply mumbles to herself and scribbles on the board. She is very frantic, unorganized and rude. She will drop you if you miss 4 or more classes, and if you have to leave early or come even seconds late, it counts as an absance.

This class is A LOT of work, but I liked her teaching style because she is very detailed. She is very anal so if u are a sloppy, disorgaized person DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I feel it is best to take this class because u will learn a lot for your future math classes but be prepared for 3-4 hours of HW.

worst teacher i've had. i took her class last year and had to withdraw due to my grade, and re-took it in the winter session and got a A. test are un-passable, and really messy. you never know what your getting marked down for. i do NOT suggest.
The problem isn't that she gives a lot of homework, I'm prepared for that. I have since graduated SMC with a 3.95 GPA. She is condescending, irritable, and dreadfully disorganized. She considers herself a prodigy, and has no patience for anyone who doesn't just "get it" the way she did as a kid. I'm glad I dropped her class.

this thing should not be teaching at all. i spent the entire class time trying to figure out what she was talking about. extremely boring and is constantly covered in chalk. expects you to spend about 5 hours of homework a day worth 1 point each and HW adds up to 5% of ur grade. test are extremely hard even if u know the material. Ms Allen, is the best math teacher I've ever had! If you are serious about learning Ms Allen will jump to the occasion, she will explain on her time if needed & gives extra time on tests if needed. I highly recommend her!!
Ms. Allen is a great teacher. She does, however call on students and makes funny faces sometimes, but if you do your homework (and there is alot of it too)and pay attention in class,you should be fine. She does drop the lowest test and is eager for students to learn math the proper way. I've learned alot through her.
This teacher is a trip! lol. Highly unorganized, she sometimes doesn't even know what shes talking about. Too much homework for such little credit. BORING!! And she is a stiffler with attendance, you can't even step out the room for one second with out her marking you absent! Have no idea why she's teaching!?
A ton of HW - atleast two hours. She takes off points for not putting parenthesis around your steps to get your answer... she took off 12 points on one test before because of the SCRATCH WORK, i had the actual answer right. I would recommend a teacher who actually wants there students to do well. Look around.
There is alot of homework in this class although if you are one of the few people that actually do the homework you will pass. The homework goes hand in hand with the exams. That being the study material. The homework is very much like the exams. If you are serious, you can pass. She is nice and helpful after class when she has time. Good teacher.
Most of the people in this class seemed lazy. I am surprised at the amount of negative comments for ms allen because I thought she was a good teacher. I got an A because I did all the homework and payed attention. As for the people who dont do homework, dont be surprised if you fail. Homework is the way people learn. HELLO?

Allen knows her math and will teach you if you do all the HW and show up each time. That said, the text is handwritten and difficult to read. Disorganized, forgetful, rigid and inflexible at times, i.e. you will learn based on her teaching style and that's that, so don't ask. Need this class, but I wouldn't take this prof. again.
DONT TAKE HER. If you're one of those people that likes having a good teacher, then she is not for you. She DOESNT teacher during class. Just goes over the hw. Half the time she cant even hear what you say. the book she made for class, is FULL of mistakes (that confuse you!) & I dont think she's ever bothered to update it. NOT A GOOD TEACHER.
she wrote the book she uses to teach with. first half of class is hw review. the second half is examples for the next hw assignment. very impersonal. dry. and uneventful. i took the class during the winter session...2-3 hours of hw a night. some people took up to 4 hours. i got an A, but im good at math, just haven't taken a math class in 9 years.
At first she really freaked me out and I felt intimidated. But, Im horrible at math, and she really went over things enough-where I got it. She did not make you feel lame for asking questions. There is a lot of homework, but If you need to advance in math, actually learning it-then take her. I ended up really liking her.

At this moment, i am currently trying to drop this class. Ms. Allen is a terrible teacher. She gets iritated and mad when you ask one question and doesnt answer questions that students need help with on their homework. I highly recomend you not to take this class. She's very good & detailed in explaining the problems. In order to pass the class, you must do the hw assigned every day. Her tests are easy, but with a little mistake, she will take off points. That's the tiny thing i don't like about her test grading. You get the grade you deserve. She's not a horrible teacher at all.

Allen is one of the worst professors at SMC.I took her during the summer she is completely absurd. She makes the test like if it were a final and also she likes her way of teaching nothing else. She always makes mistakes on the board and also grades your scratch work which is stupid. I reccomend no one take her class she is crazy.
This teacher is beyond horrible. People around the world struggle with math, and entering her class will make that struggle worse. Everyone makes mistakes, but no where near as many as she makes. She talks at you for the entire class not caring if you're getting it or not. If math wasn't one of my best subjects, I'd be suffering even more than now.

"Tough" is an UNDERSTATEMENT regarding tests.
Horrible! If math isn't your best subject don't take her! To me she was the worst! She makes the classes seem long and boring.
She gives people very hard work, taking a lot of points off for very minor errors. She never considers the Border-Line Cases. I don't know if she is a racist Prof. or not.
